I Can Hear the Bells *** [Clopal]

It was summertime in Swynlake, which was Opal's favourite time of year. She might've been born a winter baby, but summer was where she shined. Between the summer musical and horse riding through Enchantra until the late-setting sun went down, not to mention the strawberries--how could you not love it?

And another constant about summer?

Cousin Claude came to visit.

Opal abandoned her bike against the side of the porch of Bonfamille manor, wedged between the brick and the bushes. Nounou always got after her for it, but she didn't care.

She skipped into the foyer. "Claude!" she called, twirling and the tilting her head to see if she could hear. There were voices coming from the sitting room, so she took off in that direction.

"Bonjour, mon cousin!" she chirped as she burst into the room. "T'ai-je manqué?"

"Did you leave your bike in the bushes again?" Tonton asked her from where he was sitting in one of the arm chairs but she ignored him to lean to kiss her cousin's cheeks.

House Velaryon is a vassal family of the Targaryens that followed them from Valyria before its destruction. According to some accounts, they settled Driftmark island as a trading outpost to mainland Westeros long before the Targaryens settled on nearby Dragonstone. The Velaryons were lower-ranking nobles and never dragonlords themselves, instead seeking their fortunes as merchant seafarers. Over time they came to command the Targaryens' fleets, and after the Targaryen Conquest, a Velaryon served as Master of Ships for the Targaryen kings so frequently that it was practically a hereditary office.

Toulouse had never lived in an apartment before. It was more of an adjustment than he had thought, not that he would admit that to anyone. It was lonely and quiet and thankfully no one lived above him. The sounds of people in and out of their apartments at all hours was disconcerting and Lou found he was having trouble sleeping. It almost made him miss his ramshackle cottage on the edge of town, but it was far too close to the Acherons for his comfort. He’d rather take the lack of sleep, thank you.

And he, certainly, would not admit that without having lived at the Acherons for the last year or so, he would’ve been entirely, hopelessly lost.

Sure, he still took his laundry home to the mansion for Nounou to do and she still brought him most of his meals...but other than that, he was entirely self-sufficient. He even got his own mail, instead expecting it delivered on a silver platter in the early evening at tea time.

After taking Victoire out for her evening walk, just before tea, he stopped in the mail room to unlock his mailbox. There were a few letters of inquiry for commissions. Bills, blech. And then--

How interesting.

Lou sighed through his nose and then climbed the stairs, Victoire’s leash wrapped lightly around his wrist. When he reached his door, he stepped across the hall and raised his hand, Victoire’s leash dangling from it, and knocked on the door.

SwynWriMo Day Six – How Do You Measure, Measure a Year? Playlist

Songs Gem Missed

I think a lot about what Gem missed when he was in prison. And while I know that prisons these days do have some access to the outside world, that's a pretty recent development in a lot of ways. Not to mention, when Gem was in prison those things weren't as accessible. I also HC that Abracadabra is behind the times, considering the anti-Magick-ness of it all.

Anyway, this playlist is made up of 2 songs per year from the five years he was in prison. (It is organized chronologically.) I know I kind of cheated with the "one year" prompt but this was more interesting and appealing to me and the rules are more like guidelines so...

Some of them are also movies like Black Panther and Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse. A lot of these were already on his playlist, which kind of pleased me. Unlike a lot of my playlists these are all songs Gem would listen to. (Yes, including Olivia and Ariana--he loves his pop girlies on the lowkey.)

Tom didn’t visit with Melody as much as he should.

She never said as much, because of all his sisters, she was always the most gracious of them--but it didn’t matter. He still knew it wasn’t enough. If they saw each other once a week, it was an impressive feat for them. Melody always tried to forgive him with talk about how it was a two way street and she could reach out more. That she was busy, working on her dissertation. 

But Tom was her older brother. It was his responsibility to arrange these meetings.

That usually wasn’t how it played out, though. 

Melody had reached out, inviting Tom and Levi around to her flat for dinner. As soon as he had gotten the text, he’d felt guilty. Realizing he couldn’t remember the last time that he had seen her. It was getting closer to the holidays, so he was sure that he would see her then. 

“Hiya,” Melody said, opening the door and reaching her arms out--for her nephew. 

“He’s not going to stay long,” Tom told her, leaning in to give her a side hug after he transferred Levi over. His son was in his running about phase. The terrible twos came in fits and starts for his quiet, pleasant son. But he had been being particularly squirmy the last few months--wanting his independence, not wanting to be close. 

Tom was surprised how much it hurt, every time Levi whined no and pushed against Tom when he tried to pick him up. 

“Well, he’ll stay just fine with his auntie, aye?” Melody bounced the toddler, who laughed, but pressed his little hand against her chest. 

“Good luck,” Tom told her with a snort as he took off his shoes at the door and followed her further into the apartment. It was a nice place, in Castle Suites. Tom had insisted he help her pay for it, because he didn’t want her at Benbow which had a reputation for not being quite as safe. (The reality was the difference was miniscule, but Tom was overprotective. Especially of Melody, the only sister he had left.)

I think this counts for a personality thing, because this is how Evy defines herself. Or tries to, but questions herself constantly about. Is she human? Is she a star? Is there much of a difference? Does it matter? Does she get to choose?

So, here we are! I present a playlist of a bunch of bombastic, bouncy songs that span the range of human emotions: from empowerment, to fun, to heartbreak, to falling in love, to being angry. This playlist is a celebration of all the messy things that make us humans.

The seasons passed and snowflakes fall against a window that garland adorn, in crumbling castle with ivy wall.

SwynWriMo Day Twenty-Eight – Extreme Makeover: SwynRP Edition

A Fresh Look

Genevieve was the perfect choice for the start of her “fresh look” series! She was a fellow influencer, recently come to town, and had a cute little following of her own! Which meant that Isabela could get some new followers and so could Gen. It was a win-win, really! Plus, it seemed altruistic and nice and Isabela wanted to welcome the new influencer to town. She wasn’t competition! She was a potential new friend!

“Okay, so,” Isabela said as they walked into the boutique that Isa had a deal with. She held the door open as they swept in from the busy London streets. “This place is, like, so cute. I found it a few years ago and it is totally Magick-friendly, which is so rare for London. Obviously your style is super cute, but is there a different vibe you’re thinking of for this? After all, it’s a fresh look! We could do something like...European. Since you just moved?”
