An elected Chicago school board is bad. It's not any more democratic than having the Mayor appoint a board, and is arguably less democratic because you're adding half a dozen new likely-low turnout local elections.

Let the Mayor govern. Don't divide power between dozens of people.

The Democratic National Convention will open in Chicago on Monday, with President Biden speaking in prime time as he passes the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris. Driving the news: Convention organizers released night-by-night themes and speaker details on Sunday morning. One speaker who's not on the official agenda but Axios has confirmed will take the stage on Tuesday: former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Monday, "For the People": Biden and Dr. Jill Biden speak, along with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and a welcome from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Tuesday, "A Bold Vision for America's Future": Former President Obama plus Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, with a welcome from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

Wednesday, "A Fight for Our Freedoms": V.P. nominee Tim Walz delivers his acceptance speech, preceded by former President Bill Clinton, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (per CNN).

Thursday, "For Our Future": Vice President Harris accepts the convention's nomination for president.

Other speakers include Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

all the d explosion characters stared as incredibly flat rehashes of characters i already had who gradually gained depth as i became more attached to the concept, but jb definitely changed the most. he started out as an 1D obnoxious narcissistic wannabe eceleb; a real "love to hate him" kind of character. over time he gained more depth and a tragic backstory (because people don't act like he does unless they're really fucked up!)

mental illness, eating disorders, substance abuse, child abuse, grooming, death warning

has mommy issues from his alcoholic, absentee mom who had him at 14, and abandoned him for the first couple years of his life while she partied finished school

got bullied throughout his school years (with the exception of his core friend group) for being an awkward, shy nerd, and later for being an incredibly obnoxious and self centered nerd

had a massive crush on dante (dolly's older brother) and got his heart destroyed when he found out that dante was not only secretly dating his big sister chrissy, (no blood relation) but that he also knocked her up while they were both still teenagers

got broken up with by his first girlfriend/love, mia (now marthew) on the same day chrissy died in a car accident on the way to the hospital to deliver the baby (dante was driving)

became the jb he is now after he had a mental breakdown and completely reinvented himself because he'd rather pretend to be someone else than deal with his pain

got groomed online by big name streamers who promised they'd help his career

has an eating disorder and severe self esteem issues/depression

deep down truly believes that he cannot possibly be kc's "one true love" because no one could ever possibly love him

Former President Carter's grandson, Jason Carter, is expected to speak on behalf of his grandfather, who has said he hopes to stay alive long enough to vote for Harris.

I wish there were more leading progressives on here, but Harris/Walz is already a quite progressive ticket. Jason Carter is a wonderful choice. I imagine Hillary Clinton's speech will be deeply emotional to many who's hopes of electing the first woman President were crushed in 2016.

The only name I strongly object to is Bill Clinton. Yes, he's a former President, but he's also a sexual predator who represents the party's past, not its future, and including him needlessly gives Republicans an opening for Whataboutism re Trump's r*pes and Epstein ties. He should have stayed out.

Ah well, its a 90% good lineup, and that's probably the best we can ever hope for, in politics or in life.
