So I was just thinking about how most of Jason's non-canon ships are just a big fuck you to his family, and I needed to compile it. It just became funnier with that.

Disclaimer: I do not include batcest, but beside that, it's not about what ship is good and what not. You don't ship it, that's okay. I don't ship or loke some of them either. It's just about hillarity of it all. Be respectful.

i think it would be interesting to explore jaybabs, especially if babs is darker, like in the babscass prompt you did. babs helps jason track down people she wants dead, and he courts her by leaving corpses on her door, except she likes it. she gets the joker killed by a third party and delivers his head to jason, and he just fucks her right there.

anon i need you to know my reaction to this ask was SO delighted. like i had to cover my mouth and scream and just. lost my mind bc oh my GOD. i've never even considered dead dove JayBabs.

but i love the idea of a darker Babs. i think Babs being raised by a police officer who has killed in the line of duty could influence her feelings. and i remember in Joker: Last Laugh, i think it was? where she struggled with morality relating to wanting to kill the Joker. so she's not a hard character to gently push in that direction, esp given her tendency to work with and around those who have. if she just finally snaps, you can do a *lot* with her on the darker side of things. and as for JayBabs, i think sometimes about how Babs had a thing for Jean-Paul, who is someone else who's been known for lethal violence. and how she basically had to tell him "hey. i like you." and the control she took. so, imo that could easily apply to JayBabs and how she just bluntly approaches being into Jason. especially given the age gap and you push how young he could've been when he came back as Red Hood and possibly was like. 18. and Babs is in her mid 20s, knowing Jason is emotionally vulnerable and needs someone to lean on who's going to do better than Bruce. she starts with sending him coordinates and information on people she knows he's hunting. or, people she just knows are shitty. and Jason knows a hit list when he sees one. and he's very intrigued bc everyone has always painted Babs as being very moral like Bruce.

so he leaves dead bodies on her doorstep just to see her reaction. and it's *not* what he expects. bc she sends him more names and locations, this time with a "helpful tip" about how she feels about corpse dumping and next time, he can bring her a souvenir or trophy to prove his point. bc she likes the bodies alright, but it's a messy cleanup for someone in a wheelchair to handle. sometimes he leaves her fingers, sometimes it's teeth. for one particular pervert, he just leaves the guy's eyes and a sorry note that says it's the only part of the guy that was still intact by the time he was done. and so Babs is so enthralled by this little game that she gets the Joker killed for Jason and Jason just. loses it.

also? what i think is fun is if this romance is almost double-sided. playing into the idea of Jason being a bookworm and Babs in her librarian era. every week or so Jason goes to the library and always asks for Babs, casually asking for her recommendations and telling her what he thought of the last books she recommended. it's almost a thrilling roleplay where they pretend they're flirting strangers and Jason always says he's busy at night with work, working on another project for "a scary boss lady". it's coy and they enjoy the fun of being normal strangers while Jason is sending her bloody body parts.

and when Joker is finally dead, the slow dance ends bc Jason needs her now. and Babs finally gets what she wants out of her long-con when Jason is fucking into her and she's guiding him on how to support her body and make her feel good. she's promising him as he's buried inside her the next people she has planned and the parts she wants from them which shouldn't make Jason this horny but somehow it does.

also just the erotism of Babs having *the* Red Hood wrapped around her finger. she can tell him what to do and he *listens*. he will drop everything for her and whenever she praises him he just shatters and cries so pretty for her. anything for the person who finally helped him find a purpose, yk. it's so crunchy.

JayBabs makes more sense and here's why:

Since I made a post about wonderbat, I feel like I should explain my second favorite ship in DC. That is villain/anti hero Red Hood with Batman's most loyal sidekick with and without the wheelchair Batgirl/Oracle.

These two are actually popular like Zutara (Zuko x Katara) and I'll say why.

This ship is more than the classic bad boy x goodie two shoes.

Jason Todd aka the second robin is the most emotional, as I realized current Robin's Lazarus tournament comic. He's got serious trauma, I don't really need to say why...but to uncultured individuals I will.

Jay was already brutal yet cocky before being beaten up with a crowbar by the Joker and then blowing him. He was resurrected and became super messed up. And a murderer. Rocking the biker alternate outfit of the original red hood turned clown prince. Deadly, terrifying and cold blooded. He ain't the former Robin you'd mess with.

Barbara Gordon aka the first modern batgirl aka one of DC'S best disabled superheroes. Smart, kind, agile and vigilant. She is awesome, and I love most of her versions, but not the killing joke movie and batman the animated series. And not batman beyond.

Babs is a tough yet gentle feminist. This redhead is the perfect role model. The daughter of Commissioner Gordon, skilled fighter with diverse forms and a photographic memory. Was still cool while in the wheel chair as the bat family and birds of prey hacking weapon.

So the obvious reason for this ship is that they can relate to each other because of Joker. And that they can both be hot headed. Jason acts differently to Barbara unlike with the other members of bat clan. Barbara can actually change him. Jason is good for Babs. He's there for her, will kill anyone who hurts her.

Not to mention Jaybabs fanfics are more steamy than a lot of DickBabs stuff. I like jaybabs because of its potential. And its hilarious on certain platforms.

Its sometimes enemies to lovers, friends to lovers or fluffy banter. I'd be lying if I said I don't read the steamy content. They're good for each other.

You’re so right about Jason being way too into a cat and mouse with Oracle. There would be so much picking and prodding at her to get her to come out and play until she finally catches him. If you were writing them would you include her past relationship with Grayson? Would she be older than Jason or would you retcon her age? Would they know who the other was or is their identity a secret to each other until it is revealed?

if I go with my idea of setting it during the last year or so of the lost days era, barbara is still dating dick, albeit seemingly in the last throes of their relationship which. is definitely an interesting set-up lol. also barbara as oracle can get really flirty with whoever she's communicating with; it often doesn't mean anything buuuuuut. with her relationship falling apart... aldskafsjdf xD

I definitely would keep her older than jason. I'm less fixated on her age than I am with other characters, especially since she apparently graduates early and that gives her life experience above her other partners, but I usually like her to be at least a few years older than dick. around talia's age, ironically lol. like, if we go with a dick that's, say, 4 years older than jason, barbara is at least 6, maybe 8 years older. so during that time I picture jason as 19-20, and barbara as 26-28.

I only have the vaguest details of an idea, but what I have could significantly alter the last issue of lost days, in terms of changing and even cancelling any plans jason could have about returning to gotham and confronting bruce. among other things this might translate to jason NOT having A Persona, not like does in the comics, albeit barbara would have no idea about who he is (because why would that be the conclusion where she immediately jumps? eventually she'd figure it out, but at first she wouldn't know there's something to figure out beyond "guy must have a name" and jason's identity, fingerprints etc. was completely scrubbed by the bats). at first jason would have no clue about hers either, though I kind of like the idea of jason finding out first, maybe due to some comment that reminds him of something barbara said in the past? it's a complete accident and a shock to his system.

I think this would happen circa/before lost days #6 (and precipitate those alterations regarding it), and he'd need to completely disengage for at least a few months, maybe up to a year. I'm talking full radio silence while barbara is chasing after hints of this anti-hero frenemy of hers because she needs to know what he's up to, like she needs to know what everyone's up to lol. AFTER jason has dealt with some of his shit (not all, he's full of it <3), the cat and mouse games can continue, and here, knowing who's at the other side, he would up his jerry-ness (it's just how he flirts).

To people who have to remind us shippers "what if your ship doesn't become canon". I know that as i have prepared myself for the consequences of shipping. There are tons of fanarts and fanfics and i can find relief looking at/reading them.

Even if there are not much content,i still can't help but never stop loving this ships. I'm used to pain. I will respect canon story,and at the same time will hold a special place in my heart for my beloved ships.

What do you think about when people say they don’t ship Jason and Barbara because she gets passed around? I hate that kind of phrasing since Barbara is not property, and like why is it okay for Dick and Bruce and Jason to be shipped with every living character but people can’t have fun shipping Barbara? Does editorial give Barbara a lot of romances with characters in the Batfamily? Yes. It is a problem but that doesn’t mean you can’t ship something if you like it and if it ends up coming together organically which JayBabs I guess has been over the years—it never just sprung up out of nowhere but has been building along continuities and never really had a chance to get a happy ending which is what makes their dynamic appealing. The maybe in another life appeal of it/the one that got away.

I think saying she gets "passed around" is really disrespectful to her character and erases her agency in her relationships.

I don't mind people not liking ships or thinking that certain dynamics are toxic, but to say she gets "passed around" is degrading.

Also, it's not even true???

In the mainline canon, Babs has only ever been with Dick and they play with her and Jason sometimes, but it's never been followed through on. Her other relationships that I am aware of have been outside of the Batfam.

Timm-verse Babs was with Dick and then was with Bruce, which is icky to me but Bruce Timm has a Thing™️ for it. Also Timm usually has the thing with Bruce represented as more of a Bad Idea Bear born of circumstance rather than as a full relationship.

Arkham-verse has her with Tim because the Arkham-verse did some wonky things to their ages. I really don't like this aspect of it.

So... In short, it might be a valid complaint that Babs will get paired with the nearest Robin depending on what universe they're in, regardless of chemistry, because that HAS happened- I'm convinced that's what made Arkham Knight end up Like That. But different pairings appeal to different people, and what happens between two consenting adults isn't something to hate other people about.
