The loud bang of the door shutting behind you was definitely not ignored by anyone in the basement. Your body plopping onto the couch, the audible groan escaping your lips as the trio look between each other, contemplating who should say something.
Huffing while lowering the magazine he was holding, “Is this the part I’m supposed to ask what is wrong?” Ozzie’s voice says to your left.
Your eyes scan the ceiling, head tilting towards him before answering, “Yes.” The whine in your tone was soft, even making your own heart break a little.
Gwen makes her way to you, her body pushing the rough fabric down, her arm resting on the back of the couch, “What’s up?”
“I have a date with Tommy Horn tomorrow.” The whine is still noticeable. The room losing tension at your not-so-serious dilemma.
“Hey good for you” Her smile is radiant, stroking her fingers through your hair.
“No.” You sit up quickly, your whole body turning towards her, “Not good for me.” Your hands doing the speaking for you before lifting yourself off the sunken spot, heading over to the cooler.
“Why?” Jay follows you.
Lifting the cooler door open, grabbing your favorite flavor of popsicle and handing him a grape one.
You sign, not wanting to tell him your real reason for not wanting to go on this date. Sure Tommy Horn is super cute and you can’t believe he asked you out. But there is one thing about him-
“Tommy always kisses on the first date.” Gwen teases.
There it is. You shut your eyes, hoping that this whole situation goes away but when you open them again you see them all staring at you. Great. Your shoulders slump as you lean against the cooler. Feeling the cool box through your denim shorts.
“So…” Jay still not seeing the problem, taking a taste of his popsicle.
It’s so cute when he’s oblivious you thought.
Rubbing your hand on the back of your neck as you begin to mumble some inaudible words.
Jay leans closer to you, “Yep, caught none of that.” He says before holding the popsicle in his mouth as he lifts himself onto the cooler.
“I'VE NEVER KISSED ANYONE BEFORE, OKAY?” You basically shout, “Don’t laugh Jay.,” you plead, catching him before he could, your pointer finger on his lips. Feeling the hot breath escaping through the open part.
Then there’s Ozzie. His laugh echoing through the basement, probably even the whole house. The embarrassment floods through your body.
Gwen stands up, “On my god, we are leaving since you can’t behave.” She grabs him by the arm practically dragging him out of the basement before he can object.
The tragic walk of shame back to the couch as you and Jay are now the only occupants of the basement.
“Wait, you seriously haven’t kissed anyone before.” You shake your head no at his comment as you sit down, silently wishing the couch would engulf your entire body.
Hopping off of the cooler, saying, ‘What about Daniel Peter’s party in 7th grade? Didn’t you kiss him?” He tries to recall, his popsicle almost gone.
“I chickened out while I was in the closet with him. We promised each other that we would lie since neither of us have had our first kiss yet.” You confess, still holding onto the melting popsicle in your hands.
You name softly rolling off his tongue, “It’s been almost 5 years and you still haven’t had it yet?” His analysis is deafening.
And that’s when the idea hit him. He wasn’t sure if it was actually a good plan or not, he can’t really tell when one of his ideas is. “Kiss me.”
“Jay Kelso say what?” His tone is so casual you almost didn’t believe what just came out of his mouth.
“Kiss me and I’ll tell you if you’re good or not.” You can’t help but look anywhere but his face, “So like you know what to do on your date.” He stumbles on his words. Did he finally realize what he said to you? Was the tension in the room making him nervous?
“I really don’t think I can do that.” You try to focus on the tv, wishing the volume would drown out this conversation.
“Why not?” He brings his leg onto the couch, his arm hanging on the back, his grape popsicle slowly being forgotten about.
You laugh, forcing any sort of embarrassment away, “What if you end up falling completely in love with me? Then what?” Crossing your arms over your chest.
“I’m like 99% sure that won’t happen.”
“But that 1% seems a little too big for me.” You quickly counter.
“Seriously, get over here and kiss me right now.” His demanding tone sends a shiver down your spine.
Your heart rate increases by the second as you breathe out. Taking a gulp before moving closer to him.
Situating yourself in front of him. “Ok so like how should this go, like you go left and I go right, or is that the same way for the both of us. Or maybe we both go left?” You start to ramble on.
“Just be quiet and close your eyes.” His voice is steady. Placing his hand on your thigh making you shut up instantly, his thumb ever so slightly rubbing circles on your bare skin. The goose bumps on your legs becoming prominent.
You take a deep breath before closing your eyes.
Waiting.
You can feel him move on the couch, his other hand placed gently on your cheek, pulling you toward him. His lips brushing against yours as your breaths become one. The sweet taste of grape popsicles swirling through your mouth. The kiss was soft and meaningful with every last second. Leaning into the warmth of the kiss.
And then it’s over. Your lips suddenly lost without him.
Your heart rate is still high as you never wanted it to end. Was that supposed to be how every kiss felt? Cosmic, breathless, absolutely unbelievably out of this world?
Gaining the courage to open one eye before asking, “Did you fall madly in love with me?”
He ponders your question. “I think I'm fine.” He smiles before settling back into the couch, his mind resting on the tv as he reaches for the remote to turn it up.
His demeanor was so casual and normal. You couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking and how this whole kiss thing didn’t affect him. You can’t help but be completely intoxicated with the taste of him. Realizing now that you were actually the one falling in love with Jay Kelso.

Let me know what you think!! <3

Warnings: The circle, fluff, Schatzi babies, Kitty and Red as grandparents’ content, Gwen outing Jay’s crush on the reader, Jay and the reader being adorable during the circle, reader definitely knows how to smooze Kitty and Red like her mom (fake crying), the reader being Laurie’s daughter, Dad Kelso calling to say burn to Red and Kitty, reader and Ozzie being besties and making inside jokes because it’s how they show their love, pre-show by like five minutes, reader is protective of Leia
Word Count: 3,142
A/N: I needed something with Schatzi and Schatzi babies’ content and I did something about it. Ozzie and reader have been friends for ages and make these kinds of jokes all the time.
Did I just realize that it’s Kelso and Laurie 2.0 but healthier as I’m close to finishing this? Maybe. Do I regret it? Honestly no
*Laurie realized she wasn’t fit to be a mother and the reader has been living with Kitty and Red ever since
*Reader knows all the kids but never became close to them until now
My favs, thanks for giving me the confidence to write for another fandom lol @myown-worstenemy-2003 @theapangea
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You step through the sliding glass door, ready to close the door when you realize you can’t.
You groan, “Zizi, come on.” The dog continues to sit there, staring back at you. “You know your father was so much better at listening. What happening between your generations?”
“Who’s th- Oh my god! Sweetheart is that you?”
You turn around, smiling widely at your grandmother. “Hi grandma.”
“Oh, sweetie come here.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not? Are you sick? Is your throat hurting? Come here, let grandma take care of you.”
You chuckle, loving her overprotective nature. “It’s not that, grandma.” You glance back at the unmoving dog. “Schatzi Jr. Doesn’t want to corporate today.”
“Oh,” she waves you off, “Schatzi was the same way. Where’d you walk too today?”
“Where do you think?”
“Awz poor baby is just missing his father.” She walks past you, not without giving you a side hug before she picks up your precious little pup. “It’s okay,” she says, using her baby voice. “Isn’t it Schatzi Jr? It’s going to be okay because grandma Kitty is here to save the day.”
You shake your head, “I swear he only likes you.”
“Well, that’s understandable when she treats the dog like it’s a baby.”
You spin around, hugging Red. “Hi, grandpa.”
He smiles, pecking the top of your head before he moves over towards the kitchen table, unfolding his newspaper.
“You know pretty soon the world is only gonna rely on the internet for a news update,” you tell him.
“I’d like to see them try and pry this newspaper from my cold, dead hands.”
You quietly chuckle to yourself, knowing that would be his answer.
“Isn’t it early to be riling up your dear old grandpa?”
“Hey.”
He removes his glasses. “Don’t call me that.”
“You’re right, dear was too nice,” Kitty starts laughing, feeling very proud of her joke.
“Funny. Now, would you please get that damn dog off the counter. I don’t want my breakfast with a side of fleas. Those damn things were hard to get out of the carpet the first time.”
“Schatzi Jr does not have fleas. You take that back, Red Foreman.”
“Please, grandparents.” You stand between the two with your arms out. “Don’t fight with the grandchild in the room.”
“Oh, you’re right, honey. We’re sorry. Right, Red.”
“We fought when Eric was around and he's-” He pauses, realizing what he’s about to say. “We’re sorry,” he apologizes, adding your first name so you know he's serious.
“Mkay, I’m gonna go change before Leia comes over.”
“Okay, honey.”
“She left that damn dog here.”
You hear as the door from the kitchen to the living (and vice versa, depending on where you’re coming from) swings back and forth, beginning to close behind you.
“Red!”
“What?”
“He can hear you,” Kitty says, covering the dog’s ears.
Red looks over the top of his newspaper. “Good.”
-
“Your cousins here!” You walk down the hallway, ready to turn the corner so you can go downstairs when your Aunt Donna stops, taking a deep breath.
“Oh, hey,” she says your name with the same happy attitude she always does.
“Can I help you?”
She shakes her head, “no.”
You ignore her and take the bags out of her hands.
“Oh, thank you. You’re a really big help right now.”
“Why didn’t Leia or Uncle Eric help you?”
She raises a brow before taking the bags from your hands, setting them beside the bed. “I’m glad to see no one’s put up any posters in here.”
“Me too.”
“You don’t even know what Eric’s room looked like before you or Leia were born.”
“Have you met him.”
“Fair enough.”
“Let’s go back downstairs. I wanna say hi to Schatzi Jr before you and Leia go out.”
“Let’s go.”
-
You hop down the last step, listening to Kitty tell you how careful you should be even though your young and your bones would heal much better than hers. “Okay, grandma. You got it.”
“I still can’t get over how your Laurie’s daughter.”
He chuckles, “you don’t act like her.”
You stand in front of him, staring at him straight in the eyes and say, “I still don’t get how you’re their son. You don’t act like either of them.”
Leia chuckles, holding her hand up for a high five. “Nice.”
You give her a confused look.
She awkwardly starts lowering her hand until you high five her earning a smile in return. “Alright.”
“No, yep. Definitely Laurie’s daughter. A baby spawn of the devil.”
“Dad!”
“Eric!”
You furrow your brows and start wobbling your bottom lip. “Grandma! Grandpa!”
His eyes widen. “What? No. She’s faking it. She does this every time.”
“That’s because you’re a punk and need to be taught a lesson.”
“See! Faker! You- you- you’re just a big faker.”
“It’s called acting uncle Eric.” You grab your leash and Leia’s hand. “I’m going to corrupt your daughter and have her join my cult while we walk Schatzi Jr.”
Donna reluctantly sets your precious little pup on the ground so you can attach his leash to him.
“You’re gonna let her get away with this?”
“She’s only kidding, Eric,” Kitty assures him. “I think.”
“Mom!?”
-
“That was fun,” Leia comments.
“As usual. It’s easy to rile up your dad.”
“You’re not wrong there. Oh, can I go explore?”
“Alone?”
“You gotta walk him and I know you like to take your time.”
“Fine, don’t let a murderer murder you.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence.”
“I’m warning all murders with a fifteen-mile radius who’s out here on the streets.”
She responds with a sarcastic chuckle.
-
You down the steps outside of the basement and open the door, searching along the wall opposite of where the washer and dryer are. “Somethings off,” you mumble. A heavy sigh slips past your lips, “Leia.”
“Yeah?”
“Why are there people here?”
“Because this is the only place where we could hang out.”
“I highly doubt that.” You turn around and die a little on the inside.
“It’s you.”
Your left eye twitches. “No.”
“Yes,” Jay nods with a wide smile.
“Ozzie?”
“Oh no,” the boy shakes his head. “I am not a part of this.”
“I hate you.”
“Love you too.”
“I’m gonna go now.”
“Why not stay? Get to know us,” the girl sitting on the couch says.
“One, PDA one and two won’t separate for a minute. Two, the weirdo sitting over there is just staring at me. And three, I... have plans.”
“You can ignore everyone else here but do those “plans” include something we found in Candyland.”
You let out a fake, loud, exaggerated gasp. “Yes, yes they do.”
“Great. Anyone have a lighter?”
“Please,” you say. “Okay, kids gather round, and I will get us started.”
“Sweet,” Leia and the girl say.
“Oh, I’m Gwen, PDA one is my brother Nate and PDA two is his girlfriend, Nikki. And the weirdo over there is Jay.”
“You’re her cousin?” He asks.
“Yeah.”
“Leia’s cousin is the hottie that walks by my house every day,” he mumbles to himself.
You narrow your eyes at him. “And you’re the weirdo who ducks down.”
He struggles to give you an answer.
“I’m gonna go get us some... refreshments for after.”
“Good idea,” Gwen agrees.
“I’ll come with you.” Jay hops up from the chair.
You shake your head, “nope. I got it.”
“I insist.”
“Fine. Keep up.”
-
“Okay, where and what am I grabbing?”
“Top cabinets and chips.”
“Cool.”
“Please don’t try and act cool, this is supposed to be a quick and easy mission.”
“I got it.”
“What are you two doing?”
You spin around to face your grandpa. You give him a sweet smile and tilt your head. “Hi, grandpa.”
“I don’t want to know just take whatever you’ve grabbed and go away, preferably to someone else’s house so you can eat their food.”
“You’re the best!” You two run back down to the basement.
“That was amazing.”
You shake your head, the smile never leaving your face. “It was nothing.”
“No, I mean- I'm serious. Your grandpa is a scary guy and I- I froze up but you- you kept your cool and- wow.”
“Okay, starstruck. Calm down. Who’s ready to be welcomed to my basement?”
“Wha- how is it your basement? My dad hung out here with mom and their friends.”
“I live here. Therefore, finders’ keepers, shut up, hit this and pass.”
“Where did you pull this out of?” Your cousin asks.
“I am a magical person.” You smile.
Thus, the birth of the circle 2.0.
“Hey,” Nikki aka PDA two says. “Aren’t you the one who helped me when I was having a bad hair day?”
“Oh, yeah,” you start giggling.
“I’m happy to see you took my advice.”
“You were so right. Oh my god. I just told you; you were right. I don’t say that to anyone.”
“Good to know.” You turn to the boy who’s resting his head on your lap just as Ozzie talks about how he can’t see anyone (since his chair is turned around). “Are you comfy?” You ask him.
“Yeah.”
“He’s had like- the biggest crush on you since first grade,” Gwen points to Jay before she starts laughing so hard, she falls out of her chair.
“Oh no. Are you okay?” Leia asks the chair.
“Does anyone else feel like their floating?” Nate voices his thought out loud.
“You know what a good idea would be?” You say.
Gwen stands up. “What?”
“Lunch at the hub. I want fries. I’m going with or without you.” You open the door that leads to cement stairs.
“Right behind you,” Jay trips over everything in his path (including the air) as he tries to follow you. “Hurry up, you guys.”
“Don’t you think you’re being a little desperate,” Nate says to him.
Jay scoffs, “no. We had a moment.”
“And, who cares if he’s trying a little hard to get with the girl, he’s had a crush on since we were kids? Do you not think he should?”
The boy struggles to respond. “No- no. That is not what I’m saying, Nik. I’m just- I don’t want him to get hurt. What if he thought they had a moment, but it was all in his head?”
She coos. “That’s so sweet. You’re just trying to save him from getting his heart broken.”
“And you all wonder why I won’t invite my boyfriend to visit,” Ozzie tells Gwen and Leia.
-
Jay stands beside you in line, fiddling with his hands, unsure of where to put them.
“Do you know what everyone else wants?”
“Huh?”
You blink once, patting his shoulder. “Nevermind.”
You two grab the food and walk back to the table, Leia, Gwen, and Ozzie sitting in chairs while you, Jay, Nate, and Nikki sitting in the booth seat.
“Ozzie, this I got special for you.” You set a hot dog in front of him.
“You know me so well and that’s why I got you this,” he grabs your hand, placing a circle pin in it.
You open your palm to see the item and furrow your brows before realizing what he’s hinting at. You grab a fry and toss at him. “You’re such a punk.”
“It takes one to know one.”
“Good come back, Ozzie,” you tell him, voice laced in sarcasm.
“Thank you.”
You shake your head and put the pin in your pocket. You lean back against the booth turning to Jay when you realize his arm is behind you.
He stops shaking his head and making faces at Nate to look at you, an awkward smile stretches across his lips.
“Your arm is behind me.”
“We- I-” He glances back at Nate, who gives him an encouraging smile. “To make more room?”
You turn back to eating your fries, ignoring the looks Gwen and Nikki plus Ozzie give you.
Leia takes notice of the shift and bops her head. “Oh, am I sensing-” She flinches, pursing her lips together to not cry out in pain. “Nevermind.”
Nikki nudges you, feeling bad for the awkward blonde. She knows how hard your kicks can be... which is why she’s always on your good side.
“What are we gonna do after this?” Gwen asks, taking a sip of her drink.
“Movies!”
You all turn to at Jay, shocked and concerned about his outburst.
“Would you just excuse us for one second?” You grab him and pull him with you.
“Did you puff a little too hard at the circle?”
“No, I just- I don’t know how to say this.”
You shake his shoulders, tired of the silence. “Just spit it out.”
“I like you and I want to go out with you.”
“See, that wasn’t so hard.”
“Was that a yes or a no?”
You glance back at the table and turn back to him. “Just us two?”
“Yep.”
“Let me finish my-”
“I’ll buy you more after or tomorrow- whenever you want them, I will buy them, but I think we should leave before they try and follow us.”
“Good point. Let’s go.”
-
“Are they- no. Are they?”
“Yes, Leia. They’re going on a date,” Gwen tells her.
“My little boys growing up,” Nate sheds a fake tear.
“Is this what it’s like to care?”
“Aw, Ozzie,” Gwen teases him.
“I don’t like it,” the shorter boy states.
-
“What movie are you thinking of?” You ask Jay.
“Uh- good question.”
“You have no idea what you want to watch, do you?”
“Nope.”
“Should take a gamble and ask the ticket guy to pick a movie for us?”
“No,” he shakes his head.
“Bad experience?”
“Very. It was a rugrats movie.”
“Oh, wow,” you cover your mouth to hide your laughter.
“Scary movie?” He offers, expecting you to turn down the idea.
“Awesome! Which one?”
“Wait,” he furrows his brows. “What?”
“What?”
“You want to watch a horror movie?”
“Yeah. Did… you not want to?”
“No, I mean- we can. I just- I wasn’t expecting you to want to actually watch a scary movie.”
“Are you kidding? I love ‘em. Leia, not so much. She stopped coming over for a little while after I rented Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
“You’re kidding.”
“No,” you shake your head, not understanding the tone he’s using.
“No, I mean- you’ve watched it?! Without needing to cover your eyes and- and- wow.” His arms sag in front of him as his jaw drops, staring at you with heart eyes.
You ignore him and continue moving in line, telling the kid in the ticket booth you wanted two tickets to the most recent scary movie that came out a week ago.
-
You keep talking, assuming that he’s keeping up with you until you look up and realize he’s still in the same position he was in before. You grab his hand and pull him behind you. “Do you want anything?”
He owlishly blinks, still not listening to you.
You roll your eyes and poke his cheek. “I don’t think you should be joining anymore circle sessions. They’re messing up your brain.”
“Yeah. Wait! No. I’m fine, I’m fine.”
“Whatever you say.”
“Large popcorn is good. You know, then we can share.”
You narrow your eyes at him. “Fine.”
He turns away from you to do a celebratory dance.
“Stop it.”
He smiles, standing beside you with his hands behind his back. “Never.”
“I will leave you here.”
“We walked.”
“I will… leave my seat.”
“No, not unless you want to miss the movie.”
You sigh and wait for the movie to start.
He chuckles.
You grab a few pieces of popcorn. “Why are you laughing?”
“You have no comeback which I think, according to my dad, is a burn.”
“No, it’s not,” you shake your head.
“Yeah, you’re probably right.”
-
“So, what did you think of the movie?” He asks, wanting to make light conversation while you two walked back to your house.
“It was fine.”
“Fine. You totally found it awesome, didn’t you?”
You can’t pretend any longer and squeal before grabbing his arm, shaking it. “I did. I really did. Thank you for suggesting the movies,” you pause, mentally cringing at your behavior and remove your hands from his arm. “I- uh- it was- it was fun.”
The corner of his lips tugs upwards, finding your fangirl moment absolutely adorable. “Something you’d want to do again?”
“I have no comment.”
He smiles even wider, wrapping his arm around the back of your shoulders. “That’s okay because I know the truth.”
You pretend like you didn’t push yourself further into his side and wrap your arm around his waist.
-
You two stand in the driveway, unsure of what to do. “So…” you start to say something but trail off.
“I,” he clears his throat.
“Yeah?”
“I’m getting there.”
“Could you get to the point?”
“Why are you being so mean?”
“I’m not-”
“You are, and you know it.”
You huff, “I’m not. You’re just… taking forever to get to the point.”
“No, I don’t.”
“You do and I know it’s only because you don’t know how to say what’s on your mind which is so cute, it’s annoying. And-” You furrow your brows at the way he’s smiling.
“Why are you smiling?”
“You just called me cute.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did.”
“No,” you walk around him, trying to go inside the house.
“Oh, no,” he wraps his hand around your wrist, pulling you closer. “You’re not going anywhere until you admit that you called me cute and how cute I am.”
“First off, I did not. And second, no one is cuter than Schatzi Jr.”
“Okay, fine. I’m cute but not as cute as your dog.”
“He has a name.”
He rests his head on top of yours, hugging you. “Just let me enjoy this moment before my girlfriend tries to compare me to her dog again.”
“Girlfriend huh?”
“Yeah… that’s what I wanted to say earlier.”
“I know.” You can’t fight the smile stretching your lips from corner to corner.
-
“Burn!”
You furrow your brows. “Mr. Kelso?”
“Oh,” he sounds sad. “You’re not who I wanted to answer the phone. Could you go get your grandpa or your grandma?”
“I guess.” You pull the phone away, covering the bottom and shout for them.
Kitty walks through the sliding glass door. “What’d you need, sweetie?”
“Phone.”
“I got it. Thank you, sweetheart.”
-
You step out the door just in time to hear your grandma yell at your boyfriend’s dad. You turn and find him patiently waiting for you. “You ready?”
“Oh, I’m ready but,” he bends down, scratching your dog’s head. “Is junior here ready?”
“Yep. I bet it’s gonna be weird.”
“What is?”
“You not needing to duck down from my view.”
“I did not.”
“You did too.”

Author’s Note: Okay first off, the fic I think is a lot better than the summary. It's diffcult coming up for summaries for short drabble like pieces! Anywoo, this is just a little light, humorous fic I wrote in response to a fic request an anonymous had sent in a month of so ago. Thought I'd include it in the countdown to Season 2! I have not forgotten about this countdown I was just determined to make sure this was the next one I posted. Hope you all enjoy it! Thank you so much for all the wonderful support you gave my previous fic in the collection, Breakfast. It means so much!

NEW THAT '70S SHOW/THAT ‘90S SHOW FANFICTION ON AO3
Title: Death By A Thousand Cuts
Summary:
"Our parents are gonna flip if we don’t come home." Jay warns his siblings.
"What parents? Our mom who just died from cancer and whose funeral we're leaving? Or the guy who's supposed to be our dad is too busy either yelling at his second wife or cheating on her with that blonde lady who just started working at the local bar."
Pairings: The Kelso Family, with a small mention of Hyde/Melissa & Jackie/Kelso
Rating: T+
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/56548342
Author's Notes: The Kelso dynamic in canon is something that always intrigues me and given what we know in canon, I personally can't see there not being even a little bit of tragedy there. I can't wait to write more pieces like this.
Once again, used @that90sshowgoldencouple posts for format help and am adding notes on here haha. Gonna be writing these a lot more lol.

Thank you for the request! I too love Dad!Eric. For the record, I am still working on fic requests and accepting them, but at a slower pace because I am focusing on more long-term projects. But if you have a request, you can submit it here!
Eric knocked gently on Leia's bedroom door. He was carefully balancing a full dinner plate in the crook of his arm, and he knocked again when there was no response.
"Leia? I'm coming in," he said through the door. "I brought up your dinner."
Leia's room was dimly lit, and she was curled up in bed clutching her favorite stuffed bunny. Some music was playing softly from the boombox on her bedside table. A pile of used tissues was next to her on the bed.
Eric's heart sunk at the sight.
Leia had been depressed and withdrawn for days now, ever since she got back from Wisconsin. She'd visited for spring break, and Jay had broken up with her. It had apparently shattered her heart.
He walked into the room further and set down the dinner plate on her desk, pulled up her desk chair next to her bed gingerly.
"How're you doin', kiddo?" he asked quietly.
Seeing her this way hurt Eric to his core. She was clearly in emotional pain, and Eric remembered what that was like. When he was a teenager, after his break-up with Donna, the promise ring... he'd stayed in bed for days. His head had been a mess for months. And his heart was a mess until Donna was back in his arms on that beach in California, almost a year later.
He knew what heartbreak felt like. He knew what it looked like. And Leia was clearly going through it.
It made him want to absolutely murder the Kelso kid.
Leia didn't answer him, she merely sniffled and reached for another tissue. Her sweet little cheeks were stained with tears and her nose was red and blotchy from hours of crying.
"I brought your dinner up. It's chicken. Some mashed potatoes."
"I'm not hungry," Leia mumbled, morose.
"You should eat something, Leia - "
"Dad. I said I'm not hungry - "
"Okay, okay okay," Eric put up his hands, backing off. "I'll put it in the fridge. You can have it later if you want it."
"Okay," she said dully. "Thanks." Her face barely peeked between her pillow and her covers, but her eyes finally darted to his. "Is that all?"
"No, I - " Eric trailed off as he realized he didn't know what to say. How to say it. Only that he wanted to say something.
He thought back to his and Donna's promise ring break-up again, to the surprisingly kind way Red had responded to his own teenage heartbreak.
"I know what it's like to have your heart broken," he found himself saying. "It's, ah, it's one of the worst feelings in the entire world."
Leia glanced at him quickly, and then looked away again.
He cleared his throat. "So it's gonna take you some time to heal, and to feel like yourself again. If laying low, and staying in your room helps you with that, then I'm happy to keep bringing you your meals and stuff okay?"
Leia squeaked a small noise of affirmation from under her covers.
"Take care of yourself," Eric continued, gently. "But that means you need to eat," his voice had turned more stern, fatherly. "You need to hydrate. You need to take a shower." He cleared his throat. "Don't forget to do those simple things, kiddo. They're gonna make you feel better. I promise."
Leia nodded at the dinner plate he held again.
"You can leave the chicken," she said, grudgingly.
Eric smiled, and handed her the plate first, and then the napkin and silverware set he'd brought.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, Princess?"
"Thank you."
Eric kissed her on the forehead wordlessly.

Sneak Peek-Kelso and Brooke in T9S
Here's a peek at my upcoming fic. It was requested anonymous with the line: “I’m sorry, it’s just, you make me k-kinda nervous and wow is it hot in here? It does take place in the That '90s Show Universe as we know it, which I believe does include Brooke and Betsy, but the series just didn't have time to mention them very much this season. Wait for season 2, I think and hope we'll at least get a mention of them. Fic is untitled right now because well, I stink at titles. But as soon as I have a good one. I'll post it :D
~*~
“Jay did a report on it last year and I was in the room when he was reading it to Jackie.”
“Wow,” Brooke seemed to lightly snort a laugh while she shook her head. “You really got lucky that both your kids got their brains from their moms.”
“Yeah, yeah…” Kelso nodded but midway stopped and eyed Brooke up and down. “Wait a minute…was that a burn?”
She almost seemed to blush at the index finger her pointed at her. “Maybe…”
“Come on,” he began to coax, a growing grin on his own face. “You know what to do!”
Brooke rolled her eyes and shook her head but had on a smile the whole time. Then finally she said it.
“Burn.”
Though it wasn’t in his typical loud volume or enthusiasm, Kelso was excited just to hear her say it. She’s need a little more practice but she was a natural.
“Yeah!” he cheered her own, smiling away. “It was a good one too.”
“Well, I learned from the best,” she replied.
Kelso shrugged and smirked smugly. “I am pretty good.”

Wait does Kelso’s daughter or Brooke show up or get mentioned in T9S??? Additionally, if Hyde and Jackie had ended up together what do you think their kids personality would be in the show?
As of S1, neither Brooke nor Betsy seem to exist.
J/H's kid could be characterized many ways. Thinking how this kid would fit into the T9S group (let's say Jay is Kelso and Brooke's kid) ...
Regardless of gender, this kid would be best friends with Gwen and Nikki, which would cause conflict since Gwen and Nikki have a tense dynamic (until their one bonding episode).
J/H's kid would also already be best friends with Leia -- like siblings or close cousins who grew up together, and they would introduce Leia to their Point Place friends (although Leia would have met Gwen on her own). J/H's kid would be happy Leia's finally stretching her horizons during her first summer in Point Place.
But at some point as Leia and Gwen become close, J/H's kid might feel shut out since those are two of their best friends. JH's kid would start bonding with Ozzie, not Jay or Nate (too much Kelso for them) and grow closer with Nikki.
🤔 A lot of directions I could go with this. I have no plans of writing a T9S fic, but Leia/Gwen would be the romantic couple if I did (I write where the most the emotional chemistry lies -- for me; I know that is subjective).
... lol J/H's kid ending up with Jay. That has hilarious and intriguing potential. Damn my imagination! I already have ideas how this could work.
Red and Kitty, of course, would be grandparents to J/H's kid. Not legally but emotionally and in every way that counts.
Thank you for the ask! You got my brain doing jumping jacks. 😄

Summary: Eric couldn’t quite put his finger on it. But something about the angel's eyes felt familiar to him. Almost like he’s known her his entire life. But how could that be? How could you know somebody you just met? Let alone an angel.

Jay Kelso could’ve easily been Kelso and Brooke’s child, especially with how Kelso describes him in “That ‘90s Pilot”. Nothing about Jay’s characterization suggests Jackie as his mother. He’s all Michael Kelso but with, say, Brooke’s sense of responsibility buried deep inside (that his feelings for Leia bring to the surface) and a love for nature (Jackie hated nature, and Kelso was indifferent to it -- except to blow it up with fireworks).
I’m not going to write a That ‘90s Show fanfic that makes it fit with That ‘70s Show canon, but I did think about how I might write one. Jay is Brooke’s son, not Jackie’s, and Red/Kitty know who he is.
Jackie and Hyde arrive from Milwaukee with their own kid -- just as Eric and Donna are leaving Leia with the Formans. So Hyde and Jackie see Eric and Donna about to get into their car.
Jackie and Hyde enter the Formans’ home with their kid, who is gay and out to their parents ... but no one else, despite Jackie and Hyde’s encouragement and putting them in a progressive private high school with a gay-straight alliance, multicultural club, openly gay teachers, etc. (Yes, this kind of school existed in the ‘90s.)
Kitty’s reaction to Hyde is similar to her reaction to Eric. Red actually hugs Hyde, which Leia witnesses (this will be important later).
Jackie and Hyde need to drop their kid off at the Formans’ for the summer because their careers are making them go from state-to-state (an unfortunate coincidence; usually if they have to travel for work, they make sure one parent is home for their kid). Not a good situation for their kid, whom they want stability for the next two months.
Leia and Jackie/Hyde’s kids are like cousins -- because she grew up knowing Hyde and Jackie as their aunt and uncle.
Hyde and Jackie, thanks to Eric and Donna, know the basics of why Leia’s staying with Red and Kitty. Hyde and Jackie, separately ask her why her life in Chicago isn’t awesome. We actually get into the depth of her feelings. Real emotional connection. She shares different things with Hyde and with Jackie, who compare notes afterward.
Jackie and Hyde think Leia might not be straight, which might contribute to her feelings of alienation in her school at home. They recognize the signs because of their own kid.
Jackie and Hyde decide to stick around for a few days while their kid settles in, which allows them to interact with Leia’s new friends, Red and Kitty, and Fez.
Since I’m sticking to the details of T9S, Fez would remain a salon owner, but he would be written as the best version of himself (a combo of T7S seasons 1 and 4, not the season 7-8 combo we get in T9S).
Jackie and Hyde connect with each of the other kids. Hyde and Gwen, in particular, bond (after some tension) on a lot of levels. There’s one aspect, though, where he thinks his sister can be of more help. He calls Angie (in between scenes), and she shows up (and has her moments with Leia, Red and Kitty, but her main scene is with Gwen).
Jackie and Nikki have a lot to talk about, and we’d learn of Nikki’s ambitions earlier than we do on T9S and the trouble that might cause for her and Nate moving forward. Jackie gives some sage advice, using Donna and Eric as the example (this would be a conversation laced with wisdom and humor because Jackie is Jackie).
Hyde asks Red how he’s going to handle having two Kelsos hanging around his house.
Red: Betsy’s more Rockwell than Kelso. She’s the only one allowed around here. Hyde: No, man. I mean Nate. Red: Nate? Hyde: He might not technically be a Kelso, but he’s a freakin’ Kelso. Good luck with that. Red: Son of a -- Kitty: Not Kelso. HAHAHAHAH!
Leia isn’t straight. I don’t want to erase her attraction to Jay, Nate, or guys. So I would write her as bisexual. Gwen is also not straight, but like a lot of kids in the ‘90s, she and Leia are unsure of what their attractions to different people mean. (Hell, like a lot of kids now, but at least there’s a lot more information -- easily accessible -- out there).
Hyde’s interactions with Oz add complexity to Oz’s character. Hyde sees in Oz the same kind of sarcastic deflection Hyde himself used as a teenager. He also can tell Oz is gay, but he doesn’t say anything about that since it’s Oz’s right to share that info himself. But Hyde tells Oz that if he continually shuts people out to protect himself, he won’t truly connect to anyone--”and those connections, man, are what life’s about.”
Oz gives Hyde a sarcastic, deflecting response, but he also takes in what Hyde said. It works through him during the season and in his interactions with Jackie and Hyde’s kid, whom Oz recognizes as gay.
Oz, who’s comfortable with his sexuality (as portrayed on T9S), approaches the subject with Jackie/Hyde’s kid They bond. They also spot the romantic attraction between Leia and Gwen but don’t say a word about it to anyone but each other (at least for season 1).
Yeah, heteronormativity is out the window in this fic. While Nikki, Nate, and Jay are all straight, Leia, Gwen, Oz, and J/H’s kid aren’t. But the story would not be an afterschool special. The kids’ sexualities are part of who they are, not who they are. This aspect of them would add to the storylines and dictate a major thread but not all the threads.
Leia, in a conversation with Hyde, says to him, “Grandpa Red hugged you when you first got here.”
Hyde: Yeah. So? Leia: He didn’t hug my dad. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them hug. Hyde: Your dad and gramps have a few things to work out that they haven’t. Leia: Like what? Dad’s never said anything to me about it, and he tells me everything. ... Well, I guess not everything. Huh. Hyde: It’s complicated, kid. Leia: Grandpa Red doesn’t even seem to like my dad, and I don’t get that since he’s the best dad in the world -- not that you’re not a great dad, but you’re not my dad. You’re my uncle -- Hyde: Leia, it’s cool. I got it. Leia:  So ... can you tell me what their problem is? Hyde: I could, but I won’t. Leia: Why not? Hyde: It’s somethin’ you should ask Red about. Maybe it’ll knock some sense into him. Leia: Talk to Grandpa Red? I mean, I talk to him all the time -- but about my dad? Oh, no, no, no, no, no. I can’t do that. Hyde: You might be the only one who can.
This conversation leaves Leia more confused and a little scared, but it creates a significant subplot in the story.
Jackie and Hyde talk with Red and Kitty before they leave for their state-hopping summer, giving them intel they otherwise wouldn’t have. Not all the intel but some important info.
Jackie and Hyde leave Point Place, but their influence stays behind. It allows the kids to think more deeply about themselves and one another (and Leia about Red), and their arcs have a lot more depth because of it.

Jeia for the pinned post!
001 | send me a ship and I will tell you:
when of if I started shipping it: Before the series was released i already knew that Jay and Leia would be something, and I liked it a lot, but when i watch the series it was in chapter 3 when i started to ship them much more, the scene when they are sitting on the hood of the car, i liked the connection they had and how jay was very honest and sweet with leia!!
my thoughts: cute, adorable 😭🤞🏻i love them sm (I really like the trope of children of a group of friends being a couple)
What makes me happy about them: everything tbh uskabdisjd, I like that it's the whole puppy love/first love, and how Jay had his sweeter side with Leia and how he worked hard to show that he is enough to be with her, how they connected so easily and care about each other<3
What makes me sad about them: That they they haven't known each other since they were little (which i hope be explained in season 2) and that they weren't childhood best friends!! It's sad but kind of realistic in a way, my mom was a teenager in the 80's and she grew up in a point place type of little town and i'm only friends with one of the sons of her best friends from childhood and adolescence lol, and in canon the whole triangle/square(? love with nate, sometimes i like love triangles but sometimes it gets boring at a certain point
things done in fanfic that annoys me: There are very few fanfics of them, so I wouldn't know what to answer!
things i look for in fanfic: Please someone make a fanfic of season 2 where Eric finds out that Leia is dating/was dating Jay, and thanks to this we could have a scene of Donna, Eric, Jackie and Kelso all together🤞🏻
Who l'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I really hope that they could be endgame, but you never know what will happen and how the writers plan to develop the romantic relationships, so I would say Leia in her girlboss era 💋💋 and the truth is I don't know who I could see jay with lmao
My happily ever after for them: Just them being endgame (we don't know how many seasons the show will have, especially now with the writers strike, but I guess it would end in the year they enter college(? so maybe they going to college together),and a scene in the hood of the vista cruiser, that's all i ask for 🙏🏻🙏🏻
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
I'd say cuddling as they watch movies together/with the gang (considering how much of a cinephile Jay looks) listening to music together, going swimming in the lake and playing basketball together or with the gang!!
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Jay is the big spoon and leia being the little, they would just look cute together
🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻I hope you liked it, and I hope it is readable because my brain is fried and with luck I can write it up and translate it in my head lmaooo

Jay Kelso for the character ask game!
I gotta be honest I’ve only watched the pilot episode of That 90s Show. It’s one of those strange things I do sometimes where I can’t get into the show but I can consume the fanfic like candy. Idk if anyone else does that, but that’s what I’m workin with over here 😂🩷

(Stolen from @the-badger-mole lmao. This looked fun, so I thought I'd do this too.)
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?
Bamon. I still love them, but I’m not invested in tvd anymore and no matter how hard I try, I can’t get back into it.
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Mickey/Minnie
3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?
Bamon. I ended up making a redo, since I wasn’t happy about how my first attempt turned out. It’s on FFNET.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?
No
5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?
Yes. I wish I didn’t, but I have.
6. Did you used to have a NOTP or have it currently?
Nikki/Nate as a couple. They aren’t weren’t my fave in S1, but even after S2, I still don’t ship them. I love their friends with benefits arc, but that’s the only way I ship them. I’ve talked a few times on why I don’t want them to be a couple again (check my #anti niknate tag) so I’m not gonna repeat myself haha.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
It was moreso a family fic, but Red/Kitty and Jay/Leia were the pairings.
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
Too many to count: Jay/Leia, Gwen/Nikki, Eric/Donna, Jackie/Hyde, Eric/Jackie, Eric/Buddy, etc.
9. Is there any couple, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
Bonnie/Damon & literally every Bonnie ship I have, but if they had been canon, I know for sure Plec would’ve fucked it up like she fucked up every good thing in tvd lmao.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Nikki/Nate, and Jackie/Kelso (not as much tho rn b/c I’m not fixated on them). Neither are endgame material imo tho in canon.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now would be canceled over?
Maybe Zig/Maya?? Idk.
12. What was your favorite crack ship?
Gwen/Nikki and Toph/Azula always. I'm not even fixated on ATLA anymore, but the latter will forever be a fave.
13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?
Honestly I've been writing more fic than reading it 😭😭😭
But out of all the ships, I feel like I read Gwikki fic the most.
14. What do most of your ships usually have in common?
Enemies to lovers. It’s just my thing.
15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
OH MY GOD I HATE ships with Person A going after Person B without taking no for an answer. Person B's agency isn’t being taken into consideration and it’s like they’re a prize for Person A.
Granted there are ships with that trope I do like, but it’s moreso b/c of the other good stuff in the ship and it outweighs the bad.
Like Kl*roline, there’s literally nothing about that ship I can say that I like except for the fact that the actors are pretty and I liked the paper scene (and even then, Caroline was shamelessly giggling with Klaus while her boyfriend was watching. Her boyfriend who Klaus killed, forced to become a hybrid, and made him into his slave).
Tagging: @randomwriter23 @disneymbti @berryzxx @astraeasilvers @blairwaldcrf @theonewithallthefixations and anyone else who wants to join
