Could Be? - Jay Halstead
Jay Halstead x Fem!Reader Severide
Warnings: none
Word count: 766
Summary: Jay’s never met Serveirses sister, maybe its because she travels for work so often. But maybe they hadn’t met yet for a reason. Maybe it hadn’t been the right time till now.
Authors Note: You never see a woman wrestler as a job for the reader and I’m a big fan of AEW so I put some of that in this story.

“Hey Herrmann.” Jay greeted as he approached the firefighter. It was rare when the FD and the PD could get together but this giant cook out for both departments was a great way to get together.
“What's up Halstead?” Herrmann answered with a smile.
Jay was looking around and he had noticed a woman he’s never seen before with Kelly. Who better to ask than Herrmann. “Who’s that over there with Severide?”
“Y/n?” Herrmann furrowed his brows, why’d he want to know that? Then again Jay was a friendly guy and probably hadn’t met her yet. “Severide's sister Y/n. Well half sister but their mom’s let the two grow up seeing each other all the time. Essentially they grew up together. They're close.”
“Thank’s.” Jay nodd’s in gratitude as Herrmann got dragged away by one of his kids.
“Dude this could be a bad idea.” Kevin shook his head already sure of what Jay was thinking. Kevin and Adam had been nearby and heard Jay talking to Herrmann, so once the firefighter left they approached their buddy.
“Could be?” Adam raised a brow in question.
“It’s Severide's sister.” Kevin clarifies as if it should be obvious.
“She could be worth it.” Adam shrugged his shoulders, taking a sip of his beer.
“Who could be worth it?” Hailey questioned as her and Kim walked up to the guys.
“Severide's sister.” Kevin tell’s the women, catching them up.
“You should at least try.” Kim shrugged her shoulders.
“Thank you ladies.” Jay smiled at them before heading over towards Kelly and his apparent sister.
“Hey Jay.” Kelly nodded in greeting.
“Severide. Who’s this?” he asked, smiling.
“Y/n Jay Halstead, Jay Halstead Y/n Severide Y/l/n. My sister.” Kelly introduced his sister to the detective.
“Nice to meet you.” Y/n smiled, shaking his hand.
“Nice to meet you to. Didn’t know Kelly had a sister.” Jay smiled, shaking her hand.
“I travel a lot for work.” Y/n nodded as she gave her explanation.
“I’m gonna go grab a burger.” Kelly stated leaking the two to get acquainted.
“What do you do for work?” Jay asked, trying to get to know her better.
“Professional Wrestler.” Y/n answered with a smirk.
“Like WWE?” he raised a brow in shock.
Y/n shook her head and scoffed. “No, that's not professional wrestling, that's sports entertainment. The outcome, move’s pulled in the ring and words they say. All scripted… No, I'm with AEW. Real professional wrestling.”
“I’ll have to watch sometime.” Jay smiled at how passionately she talked about her job.
“Maybe you can come and see it in person sometime.” Y/n offered shyly.
“It’s a date.” Jay stated obviously hinting at the fact he was interested in her.
“Well the date would have to be after or before.” Y/n glanced at him.
“Fine by me.” Jay smirked.
Y/n nodded and then looked him up and down and smirked herself. “And let me guess ex-military and now law enforcement.”
“Damn spot on guess.” Jay answered, looking at her impressed and shocked.
“Well it’s not hard to tell your ex-military but it’s easy to see you're not a firefighter. And this is for firefighters and law enforcement plus their families.” Y/n laughed at his facial expression.
“Detective.” Jay told her to stepping closer to her.
“You work under Voight.” Y/n came to the conclusion.
“The one and only. You have a beef with him to?” Jay asked, really hoping she didn’t.
“Not personally. Only backing up Casey. But that’s been settled.” Y/n tells him with a shake of her head in a ‘no’ motion.
Meanwhile some of 51 and Voights team were watching from afar.
“Are you letting Halstead chat up your sister?” Herrmann raised a brow as he questioned the squad leader, confused and slightly concerned. Concerned for Halstead.
“No harm in them just talking.” Kelly shrugged.
“It’s more than that.” Adam laughed
“I noticed. But as long as he doesn’t hurt her I don’t have a problem with it.” Kelly told them taking a sip of his beer.
“You have a problem with anyone else aksing her out on a date.” Cruz looked at him with squinted eye’s judgingly.
“Not me.” Casey smirked, tilting his head, looking all innocent.
“Yeah well you're the exception.” Kelly shrugged and nudged Casey’s shoulder.
“What about Halstead?” Mouch asked.
“We’ll see.” Kelly watched Y/n and Jay closely. He’d be the first one to step in if he didn’t like anything Jay did. Y/n’s his sister, you don’t mess with his sister.

Request: I would love to see something Like IT’s Career day at school and Jay and Will come to teach about their jobs along with others. And Halstead's sister gets bullied. During the break of moving in between careers someone comes and beats her up in like the bathroom and leaves her there and no one notices her being gone untill the end of the day. (I kinda want like Fire, Med, and Pd to find her)
sorry if it doesn’t make much sense you can choose how to end it and stuff
I also LOVE your fics I can’t wait to see more❤️
Authors Note; Y’all really love the angst huh, gotta deliver,, and hopefully you enjoy this little drabble. Also, part of me really wanted to title this, 'big sister hugs' because I think that Hailey would be the best big sister and also give the best big sister advice.
warnings: private girls school (yes that's a warning), bullying, getting jumped (i guess?), hospital and injuries,, Jay and Will not knowing girl bullying and being stubborn, a very poorly written plot
Tumblr media
High school was not always easy, but you were comfortable at your school with your friends. That was until there was a security issue and Jay’s information got leaked. Your apartment, school, Jay’s license plate, everything that could be used to track him ended up in the hands of the ‘bad guys’. Jay and Will had broken the news to you that they were pulling you from your current school, and moving to another school closer to Will’s. A private girls school, the ones with the fancy uniforms and stuck-up kids who thought the law didn’t apply to them because they had money. You hated it. You had begged Jay and Will to let you stay, but there was no changing their mind.
The first week was hell, you knew no one. Starting in the middle of the year meant that everyone knew you were the new girl. You were enrolled under your mother's maiden name, for extra safety. It was weird not hearing your name followed by ‘Halstead’. After the first week was gone, you decided to stick it out until the problem with Jay blew over, by then, you could probably convince them to let you go back to your other school. Three weeks passed by and intelligence solved Jay’s leak.
“So,” You began on Sunday family dinner, “Now that the whole leak in PD is over…”
Jay and Will shared a look from across the table.
You narrowed your eyes, “What?”
Will ran a hand down his face, “Listen…”
“You won't let me go back.”
“It’s a better school-”
“Better?” You spat, “How is it better? I hate it there!”
“It’ll get better,” Jay said, “You just need more time to adjust.”
“I don’t want to adjust-”
“We’re not pulling you out,” Jay said, “I know you're struggling right now, but you’ll make some friends and-”
“I can’t believe you.” You pulled away from the table, leaving your half-eaten dinner where it was and stomping off to your room. Jay stood to follow, ready to scold you for storming away and having such an attitude.
“Jay,” Hailey grabbed his arm, “Let her cool down.”
Tumblr media
Jay and Will didn’t budge on your school. You had gone from begging to bargaining with no success. Now you were giving them both the silent treatment. You knew it was immature and frankly ridiculous, but you were too mad to think clearly. Jay had already scolded you for not talking to him for the last week. You had ignored him.
Hailey was the only one you spoke too, because it wasn’t her fault that Jay was being stubborn. Even so, you didn’t tell her everything when she stopped by your room. Namely, the career day that was coming up. You knew telling her meant she would tell Jay. And Jay and Will had a terrible habit of embarrassing you at school. At your last school's career day, Will and Jay had come and talked for hours about their funniest stories. You knew if they came this time, your peers wouldn’t be as amused.
When career day did roll around, your dean stood in front of the school in the auditorium, introducing students and their parents. Your school was much smaller than your last one - something about smaller class sizes being better for learning - so the auditorium wasn’t fully packed.
Not everyone brought their parents, but the popular kids with parents who had good jobs came. Like the group of girls who hated you, who all brought at least one parent. Your dean invited students to the stage by class and then had the student introduce their parents. Your class was last, the biggest number of parents who had come. You were sat at the end of your class, mostly because you didn't have anyone to bring. Not that it bothered you.
“Next up, we have Olivia and her mom, Jen.”
Jen was a dentist, she spent 10 minutes explaining how her job worked and then opened for questions. There weren’t many, mostly a few questions from seniors about collages and other stuff.
Then it was Sophie, with her dad the Banker.
By the time the girls who hated you were called up, you were ready to fall asleep. No one here had an interesting job, most of the jobs were boring well playing jobs that you could never see yourself doing.
The main girl who didn’t like you was Madison. She wasn’t fond of how the teachers asked you for answers in class, not that you could do anything about that. Her friend group was made up of 5 or 6 girls who were seemingly lovely. All smiles and compliments around teachers but spread vicious rumors and lies when adults couldn’t hear. You had heard them speaking about you a few times, not that you cared. It wasn’t great to be the new girl with all the rumors, but you had banked on leaving the school before for long. Which, you knew now, wasn’t an option. So now you were stuck with the girls who all hated you for rumors or lies that you didn’t even know.
Madison brought her mum and dad with her, real estate agents who worked together selling multi-billion dollar houses. The whole time she had a smug look on her face. When she sat back down in her row, she turned in her seat, looking back at you.
“Didn’t bring anyone?” She asked.
You didn’t bother replying.
“Is it because your parents are coke addicts?” Her friend beside her pressed.
How that rumor even started you didn’t know, it was so absurd.
“Or is it because they’re dead?” Madison pressed.
You gave her a bored look, “I’ll take my family over your fraud family any day.”
Madison opened her mouth to bark something back, but was shushed by your teacher. She turned back to face the front, arms crossed over her chest. No doubt stewing in your words.
“We now have some guests to speak to you,” The Dean said through the microphone, “We reached out to some of our first responders and invited them to come speak to you too. Everyone please welcome Dr Asher and Dr Halstead from Gaffney Chicago Med.”
Will and Hannah walked to the stage, both in their Med scrubs with doctors coats on. Will was looking for you, you could tell from the way his eyes scanned the faces in the audience. You slumped in your chair, avoiding looking at him at all.
How did he find out? Did he and Jay find out somehow? Did your school contact them?
You really wanted to disappear now, your face was no doubt bright red by how much it was burning. You prayed silently that Will hadn’t told Jay, but you knew it was a useless prayer. If Will was here Jay would be too.
You got your answer when the dean explained that there were more guests outside on the fields. She ordered everyone to head that way, ushering students with promises of something ‘exciting’.
Outside, firehouse 51 had parked their rigs on the grass. 51 had their ladder extended, Mouch standing at the controls grinning like a champion. Not far from Mouch was Trudy, flanked by two patrol cars and their officers. Looking across the gathered first responders it didn’t take long to spot Jay and Intelligence. Their own cars were parked on the grass, the lights on. Everyone but Voight had their vests on, adding to the dramatic atmosphere already created.
Students huddled around, entranced by the cars and rigs which you had seen plenty of times. You tried to hide towards the back, but Kelly had spotted you and tried to usher you closer. You shrugged back at him, trying to make it look like you were stuck within the crowd.
“Firstly, we would like to thank Sergeant Trudy Platt and Sergeant Hank Voight, as well as Chief Wallace Boden for coming today. We are hugely appreciative to hear from you,” The dean spoke into a microphone, “Secondly, I want to ask students to be respectful, as these hard working men and women have taken time out of their busy days to come and speak to us. So we are going to listen and show respect. There will be time for questions and demonstrations at the end. Please Welcome Sergeant Trudy Platt.”
The crowd clapped as Trudy took the mic, but it wasn’t too enthusiastic. Trudy gave a similar speech to last year. Along the lines of what made district 21 special, intelligence and the hardworking patrol officers. She talked about fake calls and how breaking the law would wind you up in her cells etc. It was funny, a few quips earning laughs from teachers and parents. But you had heard it all before. You were dreading what the others would say. You didn’t want everyone knowing your brother was a cop, that would cause way too many issues.
So instead, you slipped away from the crowd, heading back towards the school building to hide in the bathroom.
You didn’t think anyone would notice, most people were paying attention to the speakers or interested in the rigs. You were wrong, of course, being followed almost immediately by Madison and a couple of her friends.
You got to the lockers before they announced themselves.
“What did you mean my parents were frauds, bitch?”
You turned around in fright, not even hearing them sneak up on you.
“I didn’t mean it,” You replied, “I’m sorry.”
You were, kind of. Mostly you were sorry that you had said it, because she genuinely seemed shocked. But this was Chicago, anyone with any money committed fraud, it was kind of the standard.
“I don’t care if you're sorry,” Madison snarled, she was taller than you so when she stepped closer you couldn’t help feeling intimidated. “What did you mean?”
“Madison-”
One of her friends pushed you hard against the lockers with a forearm over your collar, “Answer the question.”
You were by no means a confrontational person. Growing up, Jay always tried to teach you to talk out your issues, violence or fighting wasn’t a good solution. Will was the same, although both of them weren’t always the best at doing as they counseled.
“I just meant that,” You were panicking under the glare of all three girls, “You know, this is chicago and-”
“And what? Everyone is a criminal like your addict parents?” Madison got in your face again.
“My parents weren’t addicts,” You scoffed, now annoyed that she wouldn’t let that go.
“No?” The girl who was holding you back moved her arm further up your neck, pressing against your throat, “Then where are they?”
“If my parents were addicts, would you really think I'd be in a private school?” You pressed, “Use your brain for once, please.”
You should have known that would piss Madison off. She let out an annoyed scoff then pulled back her fist and punched your square in the nose. The force slammed your head back into the lockers, the sound echoing through the empty halls. The punch wasn’t hard enough to break your nose, but you would feel the blood start to drip down your lip. Madison shook her hand like she had taken more damage than you had.
“Want to say that again?” The third girl finally spoke up.
It was like they were all gaining confidence in the security of the three of them. When one of them said something the others would laugh and smirk.
“I don’t like bullies, you know,” Madison said.
God, the irony.
This time the punch came from the third girl, landing in your stomach. You didn't know her name, but she was on the volleyball team, so her punch was much stronger. Your body doubled over, arms crossing over your stomach as your lungs tried to fight your diaphragm for air. The arm holding you up was dropped, and your body fell to the ground as you tried to force yourself to take some deep breaths.
“This is what you deserve,” A girl said, before another blow landed on your ribs. The wind was knocked out of you again, causing you to cough and choke.
Madison crouched down to your level, “Bullies like you deserve to be put in their place.”
You didn’t have time to appreciate the irony this time, because she was kicking your head, hard.
Your body reacted on instinct, curling into itself to try to protect you from another blow that was sure to come.
“Hey!”
The three girls sprinted at the voice, running away from their actions.
“Hey, kid,” A hand on your shoulder made you flinch, when your vision cleared you realized it was just Kelly. He held his hands out to show you he meant no harm, then gently helped you sit up.
“You’re alright,” He said softly, steading you sitting against the lockers. You couldn’t even reply, focused solely on breathing through the pain in your head and side.
“I found her,” Kelly said into his radio, “North Hallway, bring a jump bag.”
Kelly gently touched the side of your face, tilting your head to look at the side you had been kicked.
“You still got that med kit in your bag?” He asked, knowing Kidd had taught you that in girls on fire.
“Yeah,” You said softly, your voice above a whisper.
Kelly ripped open your bag, rummaging through it until he found the small first aid kit. He was only after gauze, once he secured it, he ripped the package open and pressed the gauze to your head.
You winced, instinctively pulling away from him.
“I know,” He said, sitting down next to you so he could hold the gauze in place, “Sorry kid.
You both looked up as the sound of footsteps came running towards you. You might as well have been on fire, the entire house was rushing towards you. Jay and Intelligence were there too, Will and Asher running along beside everyone.
“This is overkill,” You said to no one in particular.
Kelly chuckled, shuffling so that Will could take his place next to you, “We’re all here for you, kid.”
Will replaced Kelly’s hand with his own, when Kelly pulled away you could see blood on his hand.
Jay croached on your other side, letting Will, Hannah and Brett take care of you.
“What happened?” He asked, looking over your bloody nose, head injury and the way you were holding your side.
You didn’t want to be known as a snitch, one glance behind your brother and you could see students being held back by teachers and 51. The school day was almost over, everyone would be gathering their things to leave. You hoped you weren’t in front of someone's locker who hated you, this would definitely make them hate you more.
You looked back at Jay, his eyes filled with worry, “What happened, squirt?”
“I, uh.. I fell.”
Will scoffed, “You fell?”
“Yeah, I’m clumsy,” You said.
“You fell and hit your nose and the side of your head?” Hannah asked, voice soft, “Are you sure that's the story you want to tell?”
Over her shoulder, Kelly was talking to Voight and Hailey. Hailey was pointing something out, a camera that was positioned above one of the classroom doors.
“Yeah,” You didn’t sound confident at all. But right now, you wanted to be anywhere but here.
Jay looked pissed, but he didn’t say anything. He got to his feet and stood out of the way as Hannah and Will helped you stand. They lead you over to the stair chair, despite your very vocal argument that you were fine.
Being wheeled through the crowd of students and their parents was the most embarrassing thing you had ever experienced. You passed by Madison at one point, who was leaning against her locker talking to her parents like nothing ever happened. You avoided looking her way, instead focusing on what Brett was saying about getting to the rig.
Outside the building things were less stressful and crowded. You managed to convince the four hovering adults that you could stand on your own to get into the back of the ambulance, even if you didn’t really think you needed one.
“I’m really fine,” You argued for probably the fifth time, “I think you're overreacting.”
Will sighed, running a hand down his face, “You are too stubborn for your own good,” He muttered.
Violet chuckled, “Just lay back, alright? You aren’t getting out of this, no matter how much you complain.”
She was right, but that didn’t stop you from pouting the whole way to Med.
At Med, Will hovered as Hannah stapled the laceration on your head. You weren’t too happy about the idea of being stabled back together, but Will had taken a photo of the laceration to prove you needed it.
“That’s so gross,” You said, pushing the phone away from you.
“That’s why you need staples,” Will explained, rolling his eyes.
Not long after Hannah had treated you and left you to rest, Jay, Hailey and Voight walked in.
“Are you doing alright?” Jay asked, hesitant to start another argument.
“I’m fine,” You repeated, “I don’t know why everyones making such a big deal.”
“You were attacked at-”
“I fell.” You interrupted.
“Y/N-”
“Jay.” You echoed in the same tone.
Jay's face flashed with irritation, he looked to Will for help.
“We know that’s not true,” Will said, giving you his best parental disappointed look.
“The whole thing was caught by the security cameras,” Hailey spoke softly, she was the only person in the room who knew what it was like to be a teenage girl in high school, “We just want to know what they said.”
You tried to come up with some kind of explanation that wouldn’t get anyone in trouble, but you came up short.
“It’s not that big of a deal,” You shrugged, avoiding eye contact with all of them.
Will leaned forward, he looked wary, “Listen, squirt, we want to help, but we can’t unless you tell us the truth.”
“That is the truth,” You argued back, crossing your arms definitely, “It’s not a big deal.”
“You’re in the hospital!” Jay gestured around, “What about this is ‘not a big deal’.”
You scowled, refusing to say anything else and just sitting silently.
Voight squeezed Jay's shoulder, “We’ll let her rest, come back later?”
Jay nodded, not bidding you goodbye as he stomped out of the room. You hadn’t seen him this mad in forever, you weren’t sure if this would blow over as easily as your other fights. Voight followed after Jay, he told you to get some rest then followed his detective to try to calm him down.
Will got up to leave too, he told you to rest and said he would come back soon. When the three left, it was only Hailey who stayed behind.
“I know you’ve been struggling at school,” She took a seat on the bed next to you, “I know what that’s like.”
You fiddled with your fingers, not wanting to admit she was right.
“You know what happened today wasn’t right,” Hailey continued, “Jay wants to press charges.”
“What? No! That’ll just make it wor…” You stopped yourself.
“Make what worse?” Hailey pressed.
You took a deep breath, trying not to get upset.
“Whatever is going on, I can help,” Hailey promised.
“You can’t get me out of that school,” You scowled.
“I think after today, that might be possible.”
You leaned back into the pillows. Dr Asher had given you some pain meds for your head, they removed the sharp pain and replaced it with a dull throb. You could feel it more as you got more upset.
“There’s this stupid rumor that my parents are addicts,” you explained, “Madison is always taunting me with it, saying that's why no one ever comes to parent evenings or teacher interviews…”
Hailey didn’t say anything, she just sat listening patiently.
“Before you guys came, she asked why my parents weren’t here and I said that I would rather have my family over her fraud one.”
Hailey nodded as she listened.
“It was stupid and as soon as I said it, I regretted it. When we were outside I went inside to go to the bathroom and Madison and her friends followed me… They, uh… Madison wanted to know why I said it and I apologized but she didn’t- she, she didn’t care and…”
Hailey got the cue, “Okay. It’s alright.” She pulled you into a gentle hug. “Everything’s going to be alright.”

Hi! Would you please write one with Matt/Kelly/Jay x reader where the reader is walking home or something and gets attacked. Roughed up a bit maybe a concussion and like a dislocated shoulder... but she manages to get away before anything too bad happens and just runs on instinct to 51. Kelly and Matt all worried and trying to comfort her but she’s in shock. Sylvie and Violet take care of her and take her to med. Jay meets them there. Maybe with worried brother-in-law Will and a Connor appearance?
Messed with the wrong one- Matt, Kelly, and Jay
Warnings: attack briefly described, vomiting, possibly wrong medical jargon
————————————
You have always been decently independent, which is something that your boys love and hate at the same time. You enjoy doing the grocery shopping and often find yourself walking the short distance to the small neighborhood market around the corner from your shared home. Today was no different.
It was late in the afternoon. The sun was just starting to set and you were happily enjoying watching the beautiful colors change in the sky. Jay was still at work, you having been able to leave early since you finished your paper work, but Jay still had a few files left to tidy up. Your errands could have waited, but you had the time now. So, while Matt, Kelly, and Jay were all still at work, you planned on getting a head start on dinner.
You were two blocks from the market when you felt four hands grab you and drag you into a nearby ally. All your training kicked in and you fought back as hard as you could. All you could think about was getting home to your boys. You kicked and punched, having to drag yourself off the ground twice. The second time you found yourself on the ground, your head also found purchase on a brick wall. You quickly shook it off and stood, laying one guy out and dodging the other, bolting down the ally and running as fast as you could. You didn’t dare look back.
Next thing you know, you are running through the bay doors of 51 and Kelly is snatching you up in his arms. You are violently shaking, blood tricking down your neck and face. You don’t respond when Kelly talks to you, given the fact that you can’t hear him over the ringing in your ears. You notice blurred figures run past you and out of the bay doors, others running out of the firehouse to see what the commotion is all about. Matt comes to your side, but you flinch and scream when he touches you.
“Shhh. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s just Matt.” Kelly whispers, rocking you back and forth in his arms. He isn’t sure you hear him, but you relax as you bury your face into his neck and breath in his familiar scent.
Matt doesn’t attempt to touch you again. Not yet anyways, but he thinks he understands why you screamed now. Your left arm is cradled between you and Kelly protectively, leading Matt to believe that your hurt. “Kelly. She’s hurt pretty bad.” Matt whispers, walking around you slowly to examine you with only his eyes.
Kelly nods. “I know. I know baby. Let’s sit down, yeah?” Kelly says, acknowledging Matt and guiding you to sit in his chair at the squad table.
Brett and Violet are standing at the ambo with the doors open. They are both assessing you from afar until Matt and Kelly can get you focused or give them permission to approach. Brett can tell you are slipping into shock, but she doesn’t want to make things worse, so she waits.
It doesn’t take long after Kelly gets you sitting down. His hands pushing your shoulders to lower you down has you screaming in pain. Matt steps aside and waves the medics over, allowing Kelly to keep a hold on you since he got to you first.
“Y/n? It’s Sylvie Brett. Can you hear me?” Brett asks, crouching down to find your tear filled eyes. When you nod, Brett smiles warmly at you. “Good. Good. Can you tell me what hurts?” Brett asks, not yet laying a hand on you.
You gently run your right hand over your collar bone and then touch the back of your head. When your hand comes away with blood, you start shaking harder and hyperventilating. You didn’t feel that.
“Hey. Hey. Baby. It’s okay.” Kelly soothes, taking your hands in his. He carefully wipes them off with a towel that Violet offers as Brett stands to examine your head wound.
“Pretty deep.” Brett comments. At this point, you have lost most of the color in your face and are sweating pretty heavily. Brett can tell, without checking your vitals, that the shock is fully setting in. “Kelly. Get her loaded up. Violet, run inside and tell Boden what’s going on then drive us to med. Matt, call med and have them set up a trauma room and have x ray and CT ready upon arrival.” Brett instructs, putting her feelings as your friend aside to get you help quickly.
Everyone jumps to their tasks. Kelly scoops you up and apologizes as you cry out in pain from the movement. Brett gets in the ambo and immediately pulls out some pain killers and an Iv tray for you. She hands Kelly a towel to keep pressure on your head wound as she hooks you up. You barely flinch as the Iv is stuck in your hand, but begin to calm slightly as the meds take over.
When you stop whimpering, Brett moves to check your chest. “Y/n. I gotta look, okay? No pressing. I promise. Just gotta make sure that everything is still relatively where it’s suppose to be.” Brett said, not wanting to scare you with the fact that your bone could potentially be out of your skin or at an alarming angle or something.
You nodded, leaning your head further into Kelly’s hold as Matt finally jumped in and the ambo began moving. You groaned as the movement caused nausea to spike as your head swam. “Mmmm.” You ground out, trying to breath through the nausea.
“What’s wrong hunny?” Brett asked, pulling back from looking at your collarbone, which seemed to be in place, to look at your face. You had gone pale once again, your face scrunched up as you shakily brought a hand to your mouth. “Okay. Hang on.” Brett said, pushing Kelly forward to lean over and grab a sick bag for you. Matt immediately took it and held it under your chin so that Brett could keep examining you.
“M-Matt.” You gasped, clutching onto his wrist when he came into view. It was like you were just processing that he was even around at all.
“Shhhh. I’m here baby. Kelly and I are here.” Matt soothed, using his free hand to wipe tears from your face. “We are almost to med. We gotcha now.” Matt murmured, hating to see the pain and fear in your eyes. He wanted nothing more than to find whoever did this to you and lay into them, but you were his first priority.
Matt’s thought process was cut short when you heaved, flying forward with a scream of pain at the end of it. Kelly stood, holding your forehead in one hand and the cloth to the back of your head with his other hand. Matt held the bag around your mouth, holding one of Kelly’s arms to stop from trying to steady you or put his hand in the wrong place and hurt you more instead o comforting you.
“Brett. You gotta do something.” Kelly said, trying not to burst into tears as you threw up, screaming when you had enough air. You were shaking violently again, the pain and the vomiting causing your body to go into overdrive.
“Kelly. I can’t. We are two minutes out. I gave her enough to take the edge off, but they gotta assess her before she gets anything else on board.” Brett tried to reason, wiping tears from her own face as she attached wires to you to check your vitals. “I’m so sorry Y/n. I’m so sorry. We are getting you to med.” Brett whispered, her heart aching as she watched her friend get sick and scream while her other friends desperately tried to help.
As soon as the ambo got to Med, Conner Rhoads, Maggie, and your brother in law, Will Halstead, were pulling open the doors. Will stood slightly away, knowing he couldn’t treat you, but he also couldn’t leave you and the boys until Jay got there. Luckily, Jay had been notified by Will when he found out, so he knew his brother would be there soon.
“What do we got?” Conner asked, helping Brett get the stretcher out of the ambo as Kelly kept up, one hand still holding the cloth to your head while the other held the bag Matt had to secure it under your chin as you gagged.
“Deep head lac and suspected broken collar bone. The vomiting started about 4 minutes ago. GCS 6, 140/97, pulse 120, O2 95 on room air.” Brett spout out. “Iv in the field. Left hand. Administered 5 of Morphine to take the edge off.” Brett said, getting your sheets in her hands.
“Okay.” Conner said, “On my count. 1, 2, 3.” Conner counted, then helped transfer you onto the hospital bed. You screamed out again as they moved you, then proceeded to pass out. “She’s out. Elevate her feet. Tip the bed.” Conner instructed, following your head down as you were moved. He checked your pupils and palpitated your collarbone while you were out. “I can feel some inflammation around her collar bone on the left side. Most likely broken, but still in place. She also has a minor concussion. I’m gonna have them do an xray and CT just to make sure on both.” Conner said, standing and looking at the monitor. “Maggie, put her on 5ML of oxygen. Her stats are dropping some. Probably from the pain. Let’s go ahead with another 15 of morphine and some Zofran too.” Conner said, typing it all up pretty quickly.
You began to stir as Kelly pushed some fly away back. Conner was quick to get to you, repositioning the bed to a more comfortable position and checked your head lac. Your eyes fluttered open just as Conner was stepping back.
“Welcome back.” Connor said with a smile. “Your gonna be okay. We need to run some tests, but I think that you’ll only need a few stitches and all you’ll need is a sling to stabilize that arm while your collar bone heals.” Conner supplied, smiling as he heard Matt, Kelly, and Will sigh in relief.
You nodded, then winced. “Hurts.” You whispered, throat raw from throwing up.
Conner nodded and moved aside for Maggie. “Mags is gonna give you more morphine and some Zofran. Sound good?” Conner asked, searching your face for confirmation. When you you gave a shaky thumbs up, he smiled. “Good, I’ll check back in a bit.” Just as Conner was leaving, Jay skidded to a stop as he came barreling through the door, almost hitting Conner in his haste to get to you.
“Baby girl.” Jay breathed, patting Conner on the shoulder and going around him to get to you. He was sweating, eyes wild as he searched your body for injuries, hands and bottom lip shaking.
“J-Jay.” You immediately sobbed out. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” You wailed, covering your face with your right hand.
Jay shook his head as he laid a hand on your leg. “Shhh. No baby. No. It’s okay. It’s not your fault sweet girl.” Jay soothed, rubbing your leg over the blanket. “We got them. Voight and Antonio have them. Your safe.” Jay soothed, smiling sadly at you.
“She was so smart and so brave. She ran straight into the bay doors of the fire house.” Kelly praised, kissing your forehead.
“You know your always safe with us.” Matt said, rubbing one of your feet over the blanket.
“I-I didn’t even think. I j-just ran.” You sniffed, wiping your face with the back of your arm. “I just thought a-about you guys. I-I needed to get h-home to you guys.” You murmured, tears streaking down your face again as the horrors of the event began to creep into your head.
“You’ll be home tonight sweet girl. Until then, we are here.” Jay soothed, moving forward as Maggie walked out, kissing your forehead gently. “You did so good Angel.”
“I’m home here with you guys. Wherever you are is home.” You whispered, finally relaxing as the drugs numbed the pain and the nausea. You were exhausted and you knew your boys would keep you safe, so you allowed your eyes to slip closed.

Hi
My requets is date night at a Blackhawks game with Jay Halstead where he proposes and they have the wedding at molly's where kelly severide is jay best man en Sylvie brett is yn maid of honor and they have a lovely wedding with a cake that is half coverd in a Police badge and a fire figther badge
With alot of fluff thank you
Molly's Wedding Celebration
Tumblr media
FireFighters and Police Officers don’t have it easy. With the difficult situations, long hours and difficulty making relationships last. It all just comes with the job we've signed up for. The one thing that currently came with the job is that we all got a second family.
“So how's the future soon to be Mrs. Halstead?” Brett came over to me while we were getting ready at Will's apartment near Molly's.
Tucking hair behind my ear I chuckled with a bright smile. “I still can't believe he proposed to me at a Blackhawks game of all places.”
“You know you loved it. You've watched the video like ten times in the past two weeks.”
Whipping our heads around we both saw my soon to be husband Jay Halstead leaning in the doorway of the apartment with his arms crossed over his chest. “Jay!” I shrieked overjoyed to see him about to run up to him until Brett jumped in between us.
“What are you doing here? You can't be here. It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding!”
Jay shakes his head dangling a key in his fingers. “I have my brother’s spare key. Severide only took my car keys. So he doesn't know about this.”
“Well you don't get to keep them. Now get out of here.” Brett stomped forward, snatching the key from his fingers.
I gently grabbed her arm trying to stop her. “Brett, don't. He's okay.”
“But he's not supposed to see you-”
Jay raised his hands up slightly in surrender, shifting his gaze briefly over in my direction. “Technically we aren't doing an official formal wedding. So it shouldn’t be a big deal, Sylvie.”
“He’s right, Syl.” I touched her arm glancing towards the clock on the wall seeing it was almost time when we would be heading over to the bar everyone loved. I was wearing a knee length white dress, my light brown cowgirl boots and my hair was curled on the ends. “We're not doing an official ceremony. Speaking of, I think it’s time we make this happen, don't you say Jay?”
My fiancé smirked, holding his hand out for me to take. “Let's do this, Y/n.”
Jay and I headed over with Brett who held open the door letting us inside the local bar first before she ran over to her spit at the end of the bar that we had our own little ulter built at. Jay dropped his hand from mine going to stand up beside Kelly Severide who had been named his best man since we had allowed his brother Will to officiate the ceremony.
My father moved through the crowd of people offering me his arm once he had reached my side. “Your mother and I wouldn’t have minded to pay for a wedding venue but I must say this feels much closer than that probably would have felt.”
“Molly’s is home for me and Jay. It’s the first place we actually met. So it wouldn’t feel truly us if it was done anywhere else in Chicago.”
My father kissed the crown of my head before we paused at the edge of the stage. “Treat her well, Halstead or I’ll come after you.”
“I’ll treat her right, sir.” Jay held out his hand with my father placing my hand in his.
Stepping up onto the wooden stage with our hands intertwined together we kept our eyes focused on one another. Will came up to us smirking his dorky grin while shifting his gaze from me to his brother before he started performing the ceremony. “Growing up I always thought that I would be the one to get married first, but now I couldn’t be happier to see my little brother to be tying the knot. Y.n, you clearly love my brother enough to become his wife. You have the passion as we all do in this room and you both bring out the best in one another. So can I get the rings to marry these two?’
“We’ve got them.” Brett and Severide each held up one wedding ring, one for me and one for Jay handing them to the older Halstaed brother.
Will each handed us a ring shifting his focus onto me first. “Y/n, do you take this man to be your husband?”
“I do.”
He eyed his brother. “Jay, do you take this woman to be your wife?”
“I do.”
Will put a hand on each of our shoulders letting us slip the rings on the other hand. “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Jay takes a step towards me cupping my face in his hands, deeply kissing me.
Wrapping my arms around his neck I deepened the already passionate kiss that he had started. Shortly afterwards we heard loud cheers and clapping from everyone in the crowd telling us that we needed to break the long kiss. Shifting my gaze over to the bar we saw Hermin and Gabby coming out of the back room carrying the wedding cake we had ordered. The cake had been designed to be half police badges and the other half was fireman badges.
“Wow. It turned out awesome.” I gasped in shock walking up to once they had sat it down on the main bar table letting everyone gather around.
Casey came through the crowd holding up my fireman jacket for me to see. “I figured you’d want your new last name on your uniform now.” The jacket was somewhat cleaned and Jay’s last name was now stitched on the back in big yellow letters in the spot where my last name had previously been.
“Thank you, Matt.” I slipped it on over my dress, sending Gabby a smirk since she was holding my bouquet of flowers. “Gabby, let’s do the toss now.”
She handed me my bouquet and dragged Brett over into the crowd with her and all the other single ladies. For a while most of us in both departments have been seeing the connection forming between Brett and Casey so now was the perfect time for them to finally tie the knot after so many years of working together. Turning around I gently tossed it up in the air and the bouquet appeared to be going into Gabby’s hands until she ducked down. “You’re the next Firehouse girl to get married, Sylivie Brett!” I squealed before the flowers got dropped into my maid of honor's hands.
“How long have you been planning for me and Casey to get married, Y.n?” She chuckled with Casey wrapping his arm around her waist.
Jay comes to stand beside me, sending the couple a smirk. “Basically since I asked this one to marry me.”
“Alright everyone, the first round of drinks are on me!” Severide announced to everyone and we all cheered overjoyed to know that everything we had planned had turned out as we wanted it to. Molly’s represented the same thing as our wedding cake did. That all first responders and medical professionals of Chicago have all become a large and loving family.

Homecoming
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Severide!reader, Severide x reader (platonic)
Wordcount: 1957
Summary: You and Jay have been married for two years. He's a detective and you're still in the army. You've been deployed for months, but, after getting injured in an ambush, you get to come home early. However, Jay doesn't know you've survived or that you're coming home.
Warnings: A bit of talk about injuries and gunshot wounds, not detailed.
Note: This the first story I've posted. Feel free to tell me what you think or if you have any ideas for other stories.
Story:
You had seen him before you even walked through the gate. You had noticed him through the big glass wall between baggage claim and the arrivals hall. You started walking faster and as you walked trough the sliding doors into the arrivals hall you immediately saw the smile on his face start to grow. You ran straight into his arms. “Hey short stack, good to see you.” Kelly said, wrapping his arms around you and spinning you through the air. “I missed you, Kelly.” You told your brother. “I missed you too, kiddo. How was your flight?” Kelly asked and you told him everything.
For some time you and Kelly just talked. You told him about your deployment, -as much as you could without giving away any classified information- and he told you about everything that had happened at the firehouse in the last seven months. You talked and talked until you couldn’t help but ask the questions that had been burning inside you. “How’s Jay? Have you talked to him?” You asked Kelly.
You had met Jay while in the rangers. Jay had liked you from the moment you met, but you found him mostly annoying. Despite that, you two worked well together and no matter how much you wanted to deny it, the more time you spent with the man, the more you started to like him. For months you refused to tell him tough, because you knew that when your colleagues would find out you were dating, they would treat you differently. For Jay it wouldn’t matter. They would probably congratulate him and pat him on the shoulder proudly, but you? You were a woman in a testosterone filled profession. You had no doubt that if the other soldiers found out you were dating, they would bully you, start thinking of you as weak, incapable of doing your job. Unfortunately, that didn’t take away the fact that you were falling for Jay, hard. Knowing it would be his last deployment, on the day before he went home, you told him how you felt. You couldn’t let him slip out of your life without knowing you reciprocated his feelings.
From that moment on, you were together, but it wasn’t easy. After leaving the army, Jay spiralled. He started drinking and doing drugs and he barely slept. The times when you were deployed were the hardest, because there was nothing you could do to help the man you cared so much about. However, when you were home, you did everything you could think of to help him with his problems and through his nightmares. Jay had a hard time asking for and accepting help, which was hard on you and your relationship. You broke up twice, but never lost contact. You were always there for him and so, when Jay finally got the help he needed and went to the police academy, everything started looking up. Jay was finally in a better place and you had gotten a promotion in the army. You got back together with Jay and for the next few years everything was perfect.
Until one faithful night when Jay was working late and his phone started ringing. You had been injured during a reconnaissance mission. Somehow, your mission got leaked and you and three of your colleagues were ambushed. You got hurt the worst, catching five bullets in your shoulder, leg, chest and two in your lower abdomen. It was nothing less than a miracle that you had made it through, the bullet in your chest having missed your heart by millimetres. You spent a week in intensive care and you had scared Jay nearly to death. He had never realised how short life could actually be. He still wanted to do so many things with you, he had so many thing to tell you. He hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell you he was offered a spot in the intelligence unit. The unit he had dreamt of being a part of ever since he found out about the incredible work they did. While you were in the hospital, he barely left your side, realising exactly how much you meant to him and that he couldn’t live without you. He was completely in love with you and so, a week after you had left the hospital he asked you to marry him. He had taken you to dinner at your favourite restaurant and afterwards taken you for a lakeside walk. In the cool evening air, the sun setting in the sky, he had gotten down on one knee and asked you if you wanted to spend the rest of your life by his side. Without a doubt on your mind, you had said yes. Jay Halstead was the man you wanted to grow old with. Despite being overjoyed that you said yes, Jay was also scared. He was scared because once you got the all clear, you were going back overseas and after you had gotten hurt, that terrified him to his core. At first, he didn’t talk about it though, until you got back from your next deployment and he finally broke. He told you how scared he was and that started a conversation. You talked about resigning from the army, though, at that time, you didn’t want to. You were doing too much good to just stop and so, you kept talking about it. You had decided to put no pressure on your engagement, because even though you both wanted to get married, you both had jobs that kept you busy and you wanted your day to be just right. Therefore, it took you a few years to tie the knot, but you did it and now, you were about to celebrate your second anniversary.
With being married also came conversations about the future. You both wanted to become parents and that caused you to finally give in to the one thing Jay had asked you so many times over the years. You were resigning from the military. The deployment you had just finished, had been your last. You just hadn’t told Jay yet and it had ended roughly. After your last conversation with Jay, which had taken place two weeks ago, the humvee you were in had hit an IED. Your unit got lucky though. You all made it. You had gotten injured, but you survived. You had cuts and bruises all over your body but your worst injury was a concussion that had almost completely passed and actually came with a perk. The injury was enough cause for you to be sent home. Back to Chicago. Back to Jay.
“Honestly? Jay’s not doing too good, Adam told me he barely ever goes home, makes reckless decisions in the field and he won’t talk to anyone.” Kelly told his sister. Your face fell. You knew it would be hard on him, but you didn’t expect it to hit him this hard. When Kelly saw the look on your face, he knew there was only one thing left to do. “Come on, I’ll take you to him.” He said as he stood up from his chair.
All Jay knew was that you were injured. He didn’t know what had happened or how bad your injuries were. For all he knew, you could be dead, but he couldn’t think about that. You could just as easily be alive. But then, why hadn’t he heard anything yet? He was just thinking of an excuse to use to make more overtime, when he was pulled out of his thoughts by the noise coming from the bullpen. For a second he thought he heard your name, but he quickly shrugged the thought out of his mind. You were on the other side of the world. You weren’t supposed to be home for at least another month, so it couldn’t be you. His curiosity was peaked though, so he walked out of the break room to see what was going on.
“Hey, what’s up?” He asked, noticing his whole unit had gathered around something or someone in the middle of the bullpen. He got lucky he was standing next to his desk, because when Kevin moved out of the way and Jay saw who had walked into his workplace the cup of coffee he was holding, slipped out of his hands and onto the table. Jay couldn’t believe that you were actually here, but, without an order from his brain, his legs started moving towards you. When he was right in front of you he still couldn’t believe he wasn’t hallucinating. His hand slowly moved towards your cheek, hesitant, because he was scared you would disappear as soon as he touched you, but he still had to touch you to know if you were real. The moment his thumb touched your cheek, tears appeared in his eyes. “Am I dreaming? Tell me I’m not dreaming?” He begged you, a single tear travelling down his face. Seeing your husband this scared, this vulnerable, made you emotional. You took his hand from your cheek, opened your jacket and placed it over your heart. “I’m here Jay, I’m okay. I’m right here.” You whispered. That was enough for Jay to wrap his arms around you and pull you as close to him as he possibly could and you did the same. As he picked you up, you wrapped your legs around his waist, leaving no room in between you anymore. Both you and Jay had stopped holding back your tears, letting them run over your faces. He had hidden his in your hair and yours was pressed into the crook of his neck.
For a while you just stood there, the world around you none existent. Just you and your husband, finally together again. As he carefully put you down, Jay pulled back to look at your face, into your eyes. “Hi” you said softly, wiping the tears from your face. A small smile appeared on Jay’s face as he looked you over. “God, I missed you so much, but… how are you here?” Your husband then asked. “Well, when we were ambushed, I got knocked out. I woke up in the hospital a week later completely fine, just a nasty concussion to remind me of what happened. Unfortunately that meant I couldn’t use anything technological for a week, but it was enough to get me sent home a few weeks early.” You explained. “And why wouldn’t you tell me that earlier?” Jay asked you. “I’m sorry about that. Everything just happened so fast and before I knew it I was on a flight home thinking it would be fun to surprise you. But when Kelly told me how you were doing, I realised that may not have been such a great idea.” You told him. That reminded you, you had a question yourself: “Why did you take it so hard?”
“Are you kidding? I didn’t even know what happened, let alone how you were. I called everyone I know in the military, but no one had answers. I’ve been checking my phone every five minutes expecting either you, telling me you were fine and you would come back in a month or some army guy telling me you were dead. I was worried sick, Y/N.” Jay confessed, more tears covering his cheeks, his arms pulling you closer. You stroked his cheek with your thumb. “Hey, I’m here okay? I’m home. And I resigned. I don’t have to go back, ever. I’m not leaving you again, I love you, Jay.” Jay didn’t say anything. He just did the one thing he had been dreaming of doing every day for the last seven months. He kissed you.

Real- Jay, Matt, Kelly
Authors note: SUPER SHORT ONE. I’m sorry. I just needed some comfort and figured I could share. ❤️
Summary: An undercover assignment goes wrong.
Warnings: Some angst related to being captured. Mostly just fluff.
>>>>>
It had started as an undercover operation gone sideways. You were posing as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune that was looking for the latest scoop on the robberies that were taking place. This crew had been feeding information to another reporter, but he was now in lockup at the 21st. You had taken the opportunity to slip into his empty space, thinking that it was a clean swap, but you were clearly wrong.
Since the team was under investigation because of Voight, they had to play by the rules. Unfortunately, the reporter was able to call someone who knew his source. That person turned around and immediately called the guys you were under with. Within hours, they had you cuffed to a pipe and beaten half to death. They figured they would get away with it, but boy were they wrong.
Hours later, you wake up to the feeling of being slightly jostled as two bodies climbed on a bed with you. You immediately jerk up, hands flying to defend yourself from your attackers once you realize they made a mistake and freed you. You struggled until two pairs of hands held you down and you recognized the scent of Jay and Kelly.
“Hey hey hey. Shhhh. It’s okay. Your safe now. Your safe.” Jay murmured, hand clutched tightly around your own as he ran his thumb soothingly along the back of your hand and brushed your hair away with the other.
“J-Jay?” You whimpered, squeezing his hand.
Jay smiled as you opened your eyes and squinted in his direction. “Hey sweetheart.” Jay murmured, leaning down to kiss your forehead. “We gotcha.” Jay confirmed, nodding slowly as he watched the confusion cloud your eyes.
“We couldn’t let our girl not come home.” Kelly murmured, drawing your attention to him. You barely registered his hand on the top of your head, soothingly rubbing his thumb over your forehead.
“Real or not real?” You asked, knowing they would pick up on it. You still have an obsession with the Hunger Games and you all started using the quote when nightmares got bad or jobs went sideways.
“Real.” Matt replied from the doorway, smiling sadly at you. He hated that you had to even ask. He wished he could have done more, but it was out of all of their hands. They are just glad to have you back.
Looking around, you realized that you were in a private room at Med. You could see Conner and Maggie peer in to check on you, but they made no move to intrude on this reunion. You slowly began to remember Jay carrying you out of the basement you were locked in, yelling for Voight to drive faster on the way to Med, whispering sweet nothings to sooth your shaking form.
With that confirmation, you nod, adjusting yourself in the bed as Jay settled himself into your side. You immediately turned into his chest, basking in his warmth and the touch of your boys as they calmly reassured you that they were there. You hummed, borrowing as far into Jay as you could.
“Go to sleep sweetheart. We will be here when you wake up.” Kelly soothed, tucking you and Jay in before motioning for Matt to turn off the lights.
Matt cracked the door before shutting off the lights. He pulled a chair over by Jay as Kelly cocooned himself around your figure carefully, making sure not to bump or pull any wires. Matt held the hand you extended for him, your arm resting on Jay’s hip. You needed them all, and their touch confirmed that the nightmare was finally over. You could rest.

I hope you enjoy the final part of this series. This has been so much fun and quite a wild ride. Lots of emotions, I won't lie, some parts really got deep but when you read this, it'll all be worth it. 🤍🙃
Did I lie about the fluff? ... I'm so sorry, I just couldn't resist😭

Black was not your favourite colour.
Some said it nicely complimented your red hair and you kind've looked badass but you couldn't see it. Besides the fact that it was slimming when you wore it, you tried to avoid the colour as much as possible. You much preferred the dark navy and greys instead.
That's why you hated wearing your dress uniform, even if it was for a joyous occasion.
Fixing the black suit, you sighed. According to your lawyer, showing up in uniform created more empathy and so not only were you wearing your uniform, but Jay too.
And Will… Well that was another conversation.
It had been two months since the kidnapping and things were, things were definitely different.
Due to circumstances, the trial had been pushed back a little. Well, their sentencing had, the trial went off without a hitch and all of Intelligence could attest to that but today was the day everyone found how for how long exactly they were going to be jailed.
Everyone had been bitter and rightly so.
Stepping back from the car door, you finished fixing your hair in the car window, happy that no baby hairs were sticking out and the gel was doing its job. You were asked for professional and so a bun seemed fitting.
Going around the car, Kelly joined you by your side but dressed casually. He wasn’t directly involved and your lawyer didn’t make a specific request. According to her, things could go sideways and things needed to look good on your side.
You envied the lack of black your boyfriend was wearing. And what annoyed you even more was the Jay’s uniform was more of a dark blue.
Jay fully healed over the past two months, no injuries for the naked eye to see but the scar was still there on his thigh, the trauma burned into his mind forever after. Similar could be said for you but while Jay was back on duty, you were still taking it slow and doing admin work at the firehouse after being a bored mess at home alone.
Therapy wasn’t much help. Your psychologist wasn’t the problem, in fact she was a darling, but not all things could be fixed. You eventually came to terms with the fact that this would never leave you. As a team, you’d have to turn a new page and keep on going, with the hopes that it became a distant memory no one had to recollect.
“Y/N.”
You could never get tired of hearing his voice, the tranquillity it brought you needed to be studied. His loving face sent you a soft smile, his eyes scrunching up in attempt to keep you calm and collected.
“Jay messaged me, they’re waiting inside.”
With a sigh, you interlocked hands and let Kelly lead the way inside the courthouse. Anxiety weighed down on you heavily, making it feel like you were walking through a sentient sludge that kept trying to pull you down.
A smile graced your lips but at the sight of your older brother in his dress blues, his entire crew by his side, your smile faltered. As soon as it began wobbling, your eyes burned as everything started to go blurry.
Your chest hurt too much, it suddenly felt like you were having a heart attack in the middle of the courthouse.
“Oh Y/N.” Jay sighed, enveloping you in his arms not a moment later. “Please don’t cry.”
“I’m sorry.” You croaked out, huffing into the crook of his neck, being mindful not to mess up his uniform. “Gosh, I don’t even know why I’m crying.”
“Stop that, don’t apologise.” Jay chided, tutting alike to how Will would whenever you two got into trouble. Whenever Will did that, you knew his annoyance wouldn’t last long, he loved you and Jay too much to hold a grudge.
Shit, now your tears were rolling down your flushed cheeks and making small marks on Jay’s shoulder.
“Do you think he’s okay?”
Jay didn’t say anything for a long time. You were almost scared he wouldn’t answer you like last time. The more time past, the more you knew he wasn’t going to say anything and the same exact scene from two months ago flashed before your eyes, almost sending you into a fit of gut-wrenching tears. But Jay proved you wrong.
“I don’t know what to think anymore Y/N.”

Maggie sighed, shoulders deflating as she sat on the hospital bed. It had been a long day.
Whenever she wanted a break from the ED, she usually found one of the rooms in the ICU where the patient was usually either unconscious or in a coma. The peace and quiet provided her the time and space to get back into tune with her thoughts before going back to being the charge nurse of the bustling emergency department.
Looking at this patient, she didn’t need to look at the chart to know what happened, she’d been in this particular room every single day since their arrival. This patient had a certain pull that made her want to know everything about their condition.
“Thought I’d find you here.” Sharon said, her voice calming as she entered the room, closing the door behind her. “Everyone was waiting downstairs, you missed it.”
“I know.” Maggie replied solemnly, her hands readjusting the blanket around the coma patient. “But they did it, right?”
“They did it.” Sharon confirmed as she moved to stand on the other side of the bed. It was great news, news that should’ve resulted in tears of joy but the charge nurse barely moved an inch.
“Life without parole.” There was a pause, beeping and the whooshing of machines filling the silence. “They weren’t going to settle for anything less.”
“Good.” Maggie replied, her lips pulled tightly together.
Neither of them said anything afterwards. There was still so much that needed to be discussed but the right people weren’t in the room currently. The one big question loomed heavily over them like a stormy cloud just waiting for the right moment to start raining.
“Take a break Maggie. Eat a little something before you join the rest of them.”
Without waiting for a reply, Sharon turned and left the room, mumbling she had a meeting in a few minutes when in reality, she hated being in this room as much as the next person.
Maggie stewed in her thoughts, too many flying all around the place for her to properly take a break.
“Still no change?”
Maggie’s silence was more than enough of an answer. She truly hated her job sometimes, especially when she had to break the news to waiting family members.
“No movement since you left last night.”
Jay’s eyes still filled with tears every time he was given news.
“Are we- Do you think we’re doing the right thing Maggie?” Jay tumbled over his words from where he stood in the doorway, too scared to enter the room. The sadness laced in his words made him sound so innocent and childlike, Maggie just wanted to hide and protect all three Halstead’s from the horrors of the world.
But looking at the coma patient on the bed, Maggie knew her words were biased.
*****
One week later
You were going crazy. You didn’t know how much longer you could handle this. You hated playing the waiting game.
It was in the middle of shift when you got the call. You were finally back to full time firefighting, Crocket deeming you fit and healthy two days ago to work again. The happiness that followed his news only lasted so long.
Your emotions were haywire. When you entered the ED for what felt like the billionth time, you felt your heart physically stop at the sight of a red eyed Maggie. From beside you, Jay was scarily silent, not breathing for a good minute.
But then she smiled, dimples and all.
Connor was supposed to tell you but he was rushed into an emergency surgery and entrusted the charge nurse to tell the two most important people in Will’s life the news.
“Will’s going to make a full recovery. There’s going to be quite a bit of rehab and physical therapy but he’s going to be just fine.”
And for the first time since their initial reunion in the warehouse just over two months ago, all three Halstead siblings would be together again.
It was going to be a long and difficult path to recovery. You and Jay had your own struggles and having Will in a coma only made it harder. But now, Will had the love and support of his baby brother and baby sister, the two people he did all of this for.
And yes, maybe Jay would reem his for being a stupid bastard, protecting them from literal criminals with his life. Obviously, you would chime in when necessary but the big goofy smile on your face did nothing.
All was well now. The future was looking bright for the most of it, guaranteed it be a bit rocky in the next coming weeks that would consist of a gruelling recovery process but at the end of the tunnel, you were all coming out stronger than ever.
