god, gotham knights jason with battinson,,,,, the sheer cuteness of bruce having a son THAT big :'> I just know he'd be so protective over his quiet soft spoken dad!! can we get a one shot with maybe one of the batkids being mean to bruce bc he can't be there for something important to them! while he tries placating them and paying no mind to them being rude, jason is behind him entirely and glares at his sibling. he hates seeing bruce said. god help you if you make him cry in front of jason

(Jason, behind Bruce, during a discussion between he and an of his brothers)
Children can be cruel.
God, and everyone who interacts with children, knows that children are truly peculiar beings.
They are innocent, mouldable souls, have no real control over all their emotions and are always in constant development and moulding of their persons.
And well.
If a child in a structured home, no matter what form their home takes, they can be cruel at times.
Bruce can say that he was not so lucky.
I mean, he knew he wasn't the best of children. After his parents, it's a miracle Alfred didn't leave him with some distant relative or in the care of the state or in a full-time boarding school. Fuck. He had repeatedly been a walking nightmare and to this day he doesn't know how Alfred could have had so much love and dedication to him to keep him from getting lost along the way.
And after adopting, raising, and fighting with Dick? well, he learned that children are a tricky business.
And he does the best he can. He really tries.
The mistakes he made with Dick, he avoids making with Jason. After Jason died, he reframed his whole upbringing with Tim. And with Damian's arrival, he happily had all his kids to support him in the process.
"It takes a whole town to raise a baby."
It never felt so real.
Now that Dick had grown up and matured in his own way, had lived his own experiences, you could say they had a better relationship. With Jason things were tragic, but at least now they were in a safe place.
But Tim and Damian… they were something else.
He really tried, Dick and Jason were different. Each of his sons was. But the circumstances of their arrivals and the timing also played a big part in that.
Dick was basically an accidental baby. As if Bruce had gotten someone pregnant in their teens and was thrown into his care when the mother no longer wanted to raise him. Bruce was a teenage father with Dick; in the best of terms. He wouldn't eat his own vegetables and had to make sure a depressed, angry kid ate his without tearing up half the room. Without Alfred things would probably have gone south quickly.
That explains their constant bickering during Dick's early youth. It explains why they can feel close and hate each other at the same time. They were both children emotionally when they got together and one was in the care of the other. It was unfair, but love was stronger… at least until the differences came and they had to hurt each other and separate in order to get back together.
With Jason, Bruce felt like a young single father. How if in the middle of college he finds out he's a father and has to take care of it. Sure, he's more mature, knows a few parenting tricks and has more of a sense of responsibility about childcare. Thank God Jason was a good, rocky kid, but with a heart of diamond sitting down with the best of intentions.
Jason was a boy who needed love and wanted to give love to whoever had the desire to give him love. That's where Bruce comes in.
Bruce adored Jason, learned from the mistakes he made with Dick and took advantage of his maturity to do better with his new son. If it weren't for the mind game and the fact that Bruce himself couldn't get over his parents, and therefore couldn't help Jason with his own. It really would have been the healthiest relationship he had in comparison to the rest of his children.
But Bruce isn't perfect, and that along with Jason growing up in a place where Bruce and Dick had arguments and there was a lot of elite pressure in front of him. Jason left, they fought, he died and when he came back things were not good for a long time.
Now they are. Of course they are. But neither of them really want to remember those bad feelings. They have a different kind of love.
Tim and Damian are different for different reasons. Clearly and justifiably different reasons.
Tim arrived when Bruce was at his lowest point. Damian came in demanding and believing something of Bruce that he was not.
And they're still kids, still in training, and Bruce needs twice as much patience to be able to raise them both and to be able to accommodate everything he can do for them based on the needs of both of them.
It's not easy.
It's not always happy.
But he loves, LOVES, his children, and for that very reason he won't stop trying.
Even they come to hate him. He will console himself with the idea that at least he fought to the end.
And Jason, now that he's grown up. He knows that.
He knows that Bruce loves every one of them with every cell in his body. Every part of his mind and soul is dedicated to him and all his brothers. No matter what happens, Bruce will put them first in any situation.
So now that Bruce is actually an adult and can really deal with his children… it pains him to realize how unfair his siblings can be to their father.
Of course, there are things that Jason doesn't forgive his father for, and he himself accepts that he is not a complete victim of everything that happens between him and Bruce. But at least he understands that there is a backstory and tries to get to a point where they both don't lose control.
But his brothers don't seem to understand that.
He sees how his father, his poor father, tries on more than one occasion to reach out to his brothers, to argue about things that could be better, about the unnecessary risks they take. But his brothers only shout and smash everything their father gives them.
That's why, although he doesn't always get into the fray, he subtly sets the record straight.
When Bruce is away, which sadly has happened on more than one occasion, he and Dick have taken care of their younger brothers. And not having the same patience and focus as his father, he has come to have a kind of impact on his siblings. So, take advantage of that.
He casually stands behind his poor, distressed father. And he looks at the booger on duty and gives him the same look he usually uses on the fucking sons of bitches he deals with every night. He do not do any kind of harsh mad expression. Only a simple glance, thats all.
And that's what's enough.
That's all.
Of course that's enough. Bruce still gets yelled at, but at least the yelling subsides a few at a time until all that's left is apologies and a well-deserved hug.
He fucked up with Bruce before he died and then disappeared for years.
He doesn't want his brothers to experience that. No.
And he doesn't want Bruce to experience that feeling of losing a son at a bad time either.

Something something violence has always been the primary love language for Waynes, something something.
It breaks me that Bruce loves Jason so deeply, and Jason is so completely unaware of it. He comes to the conclusion that love is religion. You have to see to believe.
I’m just thinking about Jason watching evidence of how wrecked Bruce is after his death. He stalks Batman, always, tracks down every movement and breath. He waits for the perfect moment to shoot.
Your father only dies once, after all.
That moment, mysteriously, doesn’t come.
Jason’s never been scared of Bruce. Fear, to him, is darkness and cold and a bleach white face laughing at him. Fear of Bruce not being there at all. That’s fear.
I need a scene where Jason, — Red Hood, — watches Batman pin down a mugger.
He doesn’t know what that man says. Something about getting on him for not being there when Wayne’s boy got killed.
He’s never been scared of Bruce.
But when he punches that man, over and over and over, when his throat makes those horrible sounds of gasping effort, animal and feral, he’s afraid. Afraid Bruce won’t stop.
He’s about to jump in when another, smaller pair of feet runs up to the scene and Jesus Christ that’s a kid — A kid wearing Jason’s old uniform. Wrapping his arms around Batman’s and clinging.
The man on the ground is motionless. If he didn’t blink, Jason wouldn’t know there was a face anymore.
But that’s not the worst part.
The worst part is Bruce crying. Gasping, punched out noises, his hands drenched with red, squeezing the kid so close to him.
“My baby. Oh my baby.”

Bruce Wayne is canonically a very handsome man (he is called a "pretty boy" and he is in his 40s, for fuck's sake), and he is pretty famous as a rich philanthropist who doesn't want to leave his awful cursed crime infested city. So, there must be a ton of people thirsting over him on the internet. Fancams, edits, fanfics and imagines ("kidnapped with Bruce Wayne 😍 by a Gotham rogue"), the whole charade!
And anytime one of the batkids stumbles on a thirst post, they have the most dramatic disgusted reaction, loudly gagging, before sending the link to the batkids chat, because if they must suffer, then they should all suffer. Clicking on a link in this groupchat is like playing russian roulette, and getting rickrolled is a good ending.

Ultimately the resolution of Jason and Cass fights comes down to the fact that while he has his own ideals that don't mesh with the bats, Jason can be flexible. DC skipped the whole reconciliation with the family but while he's willing to kill it's generally a means to an end to him, not the whole entire point unless you're talking about Joker. Meanwhile for Cass the question of killing vs not killing is dead serious to her which means any time they're working together and things start going off track it's like:
Jason: Look if we kill this guy we send a message to his boss which makes it easier for us to negotiate with him from a position of power and I just think that-
Cass, snatching one of his guns and pointing it at her own head: Go on, pull the trigger. Kill him. Kill me. Go tell Batman that you let his daughter die to make a negotiation easier. He already let you die so no problem right? You think we should die? You think our life only worthwhile as part of a plan, just because we're killers? Are we doomed? Are we rotten to the core with no hope of redemption? Go on then, kill us and kill part of your soul alongside it. You clearly don't care for it so why are you even trying? Kill yourself along with us, come on Jason let's all just die right?
Jason, slowly backing away: I think you may be projecting a tiny bit so just. Calm down before I call the suicide hotline please.
Cass, slowly lowering the gun and knocking the random henchman unconscious: Yeah that's what I thought, fucking pussy.
Jason: Mm yeah you know what I hate you actually. Fuck this mission I'll just shoot you right now if you're going to be this annoying about it.
Jason, explaining things later to Dick: So I just kept shooting at her until I ran out of bullets and we both calmed down enough to call a truce. We tracked the guy down and didn't kill anyone but I did blow up the batplane just as a last minute screw you. Is she always this uh... intense?
Dick: Yeah, one time I broke up with Barbara and she threw me out a window. She's just like that.

Stuck on the thought that Bruce tried to be a father for Dick, but Dick didn’t want one. He wanted an equal, someone to fight crime with. And consequently, Bruce drove him away with his overbearing nature.
And then Jason came to him, and of course Bruce had to do better this time. He didn’t want to lose another child Robin. Only he realized too late that Jason didn’t just want to be Batman’s partner, he wanted to be Bruce’s son.
((And with Tim he was too scared to even try))
Kay thanks s’cuse me while I go cry in a corner goddammit

I can't deny that there's a part of me that's absolutely delighted that each time Bruce unjustly went after Jason, the Batkids responded in kind.
This isn't my ideal version of the Batfam, but it does warm my heart seeing Jason's siblings stand up for him.

“13th birthday with Grayson” vs “18th birthday with my brother who insists on being embarrassing”
I feel like Damian would secretly keep a photo album of things happening in his life. It first started with Alfred or Dick taking photos whenever Damian would meet a normal human-child-milestone. Despite not really understanding why the others cared so much, he’d have these photos printed and kept neatly in a little album with short descriptions and I feel like those descriptions would slowly become more open and emotional as he would age.

I'm bad at math, but is Bruce theoretically 38 years old when he goes into the time stream?
Hear me out (and canon likes to fluncate their ages, so this is my best guess without trying to account for birthdays):
Bruce becomes the legal guardian of 9 year old Dick when he's 23. That's a 14 year difference.
Jason becomes Robin when Dick leaves at 18. Jason is 13. That's a five year difference.
Jason dies at 15, and Tim becomes Robin at 13. That's a two year difference.
The age difference between Tim and Bruce would thus be 21 years.
Tim becomes Red Robin to find Bruce at 17.
That means that Bruce had to be 38, right? Why was I imagining him closer to 50?
Adopting so many kids must have aged him

PJO/HOO Hot Take -
So I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion about who’s the best godly parent, specifically father, in PJO. Most people either say Hades, Poseidon, or Apollo and imo those are all incorrect, here’s why -
1. HADES - straight up, while he payed child support (shocking), he also…
- told his only living child (Nico) that he wished he’d died instead of his sister
- has manipulated him many times, stole his and Bianca’s memories (ethics on this can be debated)
- basically did exactly what Hermes did to Luke and May but with Hazel and Marie
2. POSEIDON - didn’t even pay child support smh
- only began a relationship with Percy after he was singled out by Zeus ( + didn’t defend him in the slightest)
- only continued said relationship because of necessity
- left Sally and Percy without any defences making them turn to a literal abuser for help
- generally just a deadbeat dad, also what about his other kids? Last PJO book he admits he has like 13 demigod kids and we just..never see them? (Uncle Rick probs forgot but I’m still blaming Poseidon for continuity or smth)
3. APOLLO - while he does care about his children he also…
- wasn’t there for the funerals of any of his kids
- had never even spoken to most of his kids despite having visited camp on multiple occasions
- straight up only started fathering after being turned mortal and he wasn’t even good at it (of course people grow, I’m not hating on Apollo/Lester as a character just as a father)
Rather, the best dad in the series has been there since day 1 - Dionysus. Here’s why imo -
- Has been present in both his sons lives since birth, as well as having essentially joint-custody of them
- literally just the whole thing about Castors funeral after the titan war
- genuinely cared about them and claimed all his children without being asked (those were the only 2 he had)
- as well as making sure they were safe and cared for (aside from the war but shit happens)
- understands the issues that come with being a demigod/parenting a demigod because he was one himself
- there’s more but I have a hand cramp rn so yea

Jason when Batman is here: I kill people and I don't care! I will kill as much as I want! Do you have a problem, old man?!
Jason when he is with the Outlaws: Can you guys try to not kill people? My father isn't a fan. Thank you.
-
Jason when he is with anyone from the Batfam: Fuck Batman. Fuck Bruce.
Jason when he is with the Outlaws: I want Da- Bruce to love me so bad.

and you know what? jason todd knew he was bruce's son. maybe he thought being bruce's son was dependent on being robin so his perception of the situation was a little messed up, but he knew he was a son. jason's not going to say he was bruce's soldier as robin.

Slightly dark/insane batfam who is overjoyed to have Jason back from death is one of my favorite aus ever. Like imagine Bruce being oh so proud of his son who ended entire gangs and built an empire in a matter of months before he even turned 19. Ofc he's gonna brag to this fellow JL members. His kid is just so driven and smart! Jason has no idea if they were always like this or if his death made them this way but he's not complaining (much).
Ooo that would be interesting!
Like, a Batman who still doesn’t kill and adheres to his moral code but has absolutely no problem if his kids turn murderous. He’s a proud and supportive dad either way, the only rule he has is that they keep it strictly to criminals and leave alone the regular civilians.
He went a little cuckoo when he lost Jason. As did Dick. (And Tim wasn’t sane either way lmao)
