The history of KPOP's most successful boy group isn't easy, and it is one that their company would prefer you forget. DeepDive would usher in many firsts for their company, Angelico Entertainment. They were the first group to be formed by a survival show held by the label, the youngest trainees to debut under the label, the first boy group to hit 1 million album sales, and the first group to break into the international KPOP scene.

None of this came without struggle. A lot of struggle.

Starting in 2014 with their survival show "The New Wave," the boys, all teenagers, would be put through grueling weekly evaluations where the audience would vote on who they wanted to survive to the next episode. The New Wave gave the audience a first-time look into the Angelico training process, which already had a history of being one of the most intense training programs out of any company in the industry. Weekly, you could watch as 43 teenage boys got degraded, berated, and had their confidence shattered by the panel of trainers and judges, which consisted of Jang Kiha, leader of the boy group Priority, Jeon Jihan, COO of Angelico, Kim Minsi, Head Trainee Instructor, and Son Jinhwa, CEO of Angelico.

Son would prove to be the most brutal of the panel, notorious for having a high standard for his idols. However, his callous treatment of DeepDive didn't end with The New Wave; instead, it carried years into their career.

The final DeepDive lineup was decided in August 2015. The final seven members, listed by rank, were all considerably young, even for 2015's KPOP standards.

Their young ages were intentional. It's a running joke with DeepDive that Dowon almost didn't make it in the group as he was often the target of Son Jinhwa's endless tirades on the show, getting singled out for his age primarily as his skill never seemed to be an issue. "How do you plan on keeping up with the other boys? Will you be able to? Don't you think you're too old to debut?" All are phrases said to Dowon by Son Jinhwa during his time on The New Wave.

Today, Dowon is one of Son Jinhwa's active defenders, often showing up as a character witness to rave about how well Son and MyDol have treated him.

Son Jinhwa has proved time and time again that no matter how many times you kick a dog, it will remain loyal to you for a pat on the head. While his questionable relationship with Venus has raised eyebrows over the years, his relationship with DeepDive has been less reported on, simply falling under the category of a father-and-son-like relationship.

Ironically enough, Son's son is a member of DeepDive. Noah was born in Florida in 1999 before moving to South Korea with his father and mother at just two years old. He attended an international school throughout his youth. He began training at just ten years old under the guidance of his father, becoming one of the youngest trainees in Angelico history.

Finn Lee began training under Angelico at only 12, being recruited at a Talent show in Florida. Kiwoo was recruited at 13, Woojin at 13, and the rest of the members were recruited at 14. Son Jinhwa has been in every pivotal moment of these boys' lives, from graduations to debuts to awards to parental deaths. Jinhwa has been with them through it all and supported them through it all.

When Finn's father died in 2019, Son Jinhwa covered the funeral costs and paid off his family's home. What he didn't do was give Finn more than a week off. He only gave the then eighteen-year-old three days to attend his father's funeral, head back to South Korea, and process the loss of his father before he was back on stage.

in 2020, upon DeepDive's sudden massive success, Jisung's father, who had been absent for most of his life, attempted to claim ownership of half of his assets. Jinhwa covered the legal fees and had one of South Korea's top lawyers represent Jisung during the trial. However, what Jinhwa would not do for Jisung was give him a break after what Jisung himself said was one of "the most traumatic" times of his life.

Jinhwa love for DeepDive seems to only extend so far, operating their relationship on a hollow reward system that only benefits him in the end. When it doesn't benefit him, he doesn't reward. He leaves them to drown.

Provable through multiple police reports, Kim Woojin has reported DeepDive's long-term manager, Kim Hyerim, of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, indecency with a minor, and various other complaints that should have her fired and arrested. All these complaints were brushed under the rug and ignored by Son Jinhwa, who would pay off the police department to ignore these claims.

What Jinhwa did was put then-nineteen-year-old Woojin on a year-long hiatus in 2019, refusing to give any updates on him or even a proper reason for his hiatus for the entire year. When Woojin was reinstated as a member of DeepDive, he apologized for his "behavior" and promised to be better despite fans still being in the dark about what actually happened.

Despite all this, DeepDive has remained fiercely loyal to Jinhwa and MyDol, often shutting down criticisms of their label and proudly backing any decision their company makes, even if it's questionable and to their detriment. It doesn't matter to them, proving repeatedly that they will put their reputations on the line to defend the man they've been trained to believe they owe their careers to.

Jung Yoonah (Korean: 정윤아, born November 16, 1998), known professionally as Baebi (Korean: 배바이; Japanese: ベビ), is a Korean singer, dancer, and actress based in South Korea. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Venus, formed by Angelico Entertainment in 2018. She is portrayed by Im Youha & Go Minsi.

Yoonah was born on November 16, 1998, in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea as an only child. Her mother taught art at a university while her father worked in sales. Yoonah began dancing at the age of three, being put in ballet by her mother.

Yoonah trained in ballet from a young age, having practiced it for eleven years before debuting with Venus.

Yoonah would attend the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA; Korean: 서울공연예술고등학교 / 서공예), where she would be scouted by Angelico Entertainment.

𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟐 - 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟑 : 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬.

While attending SOPA, Yoonah would be scouted by Angelico's CEO, Son Jinhwa, and COO, Jeon Jihan, through an open audition the pair hosted at the school. She was scouted for her visual and dancing skills.

Yoonah would become a frequent feature in Priority music videos, acting as a love interest to the boys or as a backup dancer. She would also model for various CF brands and commercials.

In Januaray 2014, it was announced that Yoonah would debut in Angelico's first-ever girl group, Emphasis.

𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟒 - 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕: 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬, 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Yoonah debuted with Angelico Entertainment's Emphasis on May 21, 2014. Emphasis officially debuted and released their first mini album, EMPRINTSIS, accompanied by the title tracks "Symphony" and "Road Trip."

Emphasis would have their first and final comeback with their second mini album, EMPATHSIS, promoting the title tracks"Love Bomb" and "Wee Woo!" before falling into a year of inactivity.

On May 24, 2016, Emphasis was officially disbanded. Angelico Entertainment announced that Yoonah would be staying with the label.

Following Emphasis's disbandment, Yoonah would return to training and join Angelico's pre-debut team, "Angellies." The group would rotate trainees and perform around South Korea. The team would operate on a ranking system voted on by the fans they would garner from their performances and live streams.

Yoonah was a prominent member of the Angellies, often being voted as the fan favorite in their monthly rankings. By the end of the group's run, Yoonah was the second-most-voted fan favorite.

In 2016, Yuuna would officially take on the stage name Baebi.

In 2017, Angellies would be discontinued to prepare for Angelico's new girl group debut.

𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟖: 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐒

On March 17, 2018, Baebi would officially debut in VENUS with the release of their first extended play (EP), SHE DEVIL, and its lead single, "SHE DEVIL."

She is the group's leader, main dancer, main vocalist, and lead rapper.

𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟗: 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭

In late 2019, Baebi made her debut as a solo artist with the EP Bubble Pop!.  She released her debut extended play (EP), Bubble Pop!, in June 2019. It peaked at number two on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart, and charted atop the US Billboard World Albums. As of 2023, it has sold 360,000 copies in South Korea. 

Bubble Pop! 's commercial success was the main contributor to Angelico Entertainment's leading music sales. The song peaked at number one in South Korea, where it has sold over 2.5 million digital units. To accompany her solo release, Baebi held a series of small concerts called Baebi's Summer Splash. She was awarded Best Female Artist at the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards and at the 2020 Golden Disk Awards.

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 - 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬

She made her acting debut in the 2021 Netflix K-drama Squid Game, in which she played Han Doyun, an unpaid intern at an unnamed company, alongside her husband, Han Wonil, played by Jang Kiha of Priority,  who need money to pay off their ever-mounting debt.

Doyun became a fan favorite, and Jung was called Squid Game's breakout star by critics. For her performance on the show, Jung won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Baebi has had a controversial relationship with Mydol CEO Son Jinhwa. An anonymous source revealed the pair's relationship to the public in 2022, resulting in a wave of backlash that led to Jinhwa stepping down from his position as CEO of Angelico Entertainment and Baebi going on a brief hiatus. The pair never confirmed their relationship.

In 2023, Baebi would confirm her relationship with Kim Juwon, the lead vocalist of the boy group Priority. The pair had been dating for three years before the announcement, silently putting the rumors of her and Son Jinhwa's relationship to rest. Baebi and Juwon would break up in 2024 after spending five years together.

Baebi has been a vocal mental health advocate, being very open about her struggles with depression and anxiety. She often donates to mental health charities and volunteers at children's hospitals in her spare time.

𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

In 2019, Baebi became the face of Gentle Monster, a sunglasses and optical glasses brand founded by Hankook Kim, choosing Baebi to represent their brand due to her "hot and cool" image. 

On February 2, 2021, Baebi was announced as the face of Chum Churum, a soju brand under Lotte Corporation.

On March 8, Baebi became the advertisement model of HOT6ix, an energy drink brand under Lotte Corporation.

On April 8, Etude House introduced Baebi as their new brand model.

In September 2022, Baebi became a model for the Japanese bathing suit brand KŌRARU.

Baebi has walked in runways for Burberry, Miu Miu, Jason Wu, Chanel, Schiaparelli, Giambattista Valli, Bottega Veneta, Emilio Pucci, Prabal Gurung, Jacquemus, and Tory Burch. She has also appeared in advertisements for Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, and Bottega Veneta and on the covers of Vogue Korea, Vogue Japan, CR Fashion Book, and Harper's Bazaar Korea.

Some fans felt betrayed (as usual), especially since K-Pop idols often cultivate a specific persona. Dating can be seen as a distraction or a break from that carefully crafted image.

The intensity of the controversy highlights the complex world of K-Pop idol dating. Fans often feel a deep connection to their idols, and public dating can be seen as a transgression of that bond. It also touches on the cultural attitudes in Korea towards idol dating. While Western fans might be more accepting, Korean fans sometimes view dating as a potential distraction from an idol’s career.

Another layer to the controversy is the issue of privacy. The passionate fan culture in Korea can sometimes lead to excessive scrutiny of idols’ personal lives. Fans who felt this intrusion into Krystal and Kai’s relationship was a cause for concern added fuel to the fire.

8. IU and Jang Kiha

Following Dispatch’s report, both SM Entertainment (YoonA’s agency) and Hook Entertainment (Lee Seung Gi’s agency) wasted no time confirming the relationship.  However, they downplayed it as the early stages of getting to know each other. Despite the cautious confirmation, fans were excited to see this K-pop power couple together.

Unfortunately, the happily ever after wasn’t meant to be. News of their break-up hit the stands in 2015 with both agencies citing busy schedules as the reason. While the romance was short-lived, Lee Seung Gi and YoonA’s confirmed their relationship in 2014 remains a notable moment in K-drama history as well as in the history of K-Pop dating rumors.

Com tantos Centros de Treinamento Olímpico espalhados pelo mundo, por que o Hamdeok Complex?

Acredito que nunca houve outra opção para mim. Não só possuo grande preferência por treinar com os grandes mestres oriundos de nosso país, considerando que o esporte não existiria sem ele, mas também acredito que a Coréia é o lugar a potencializar meus pontos fortes. A adaptação para treinar em outro local seria imensa e… Bem da verdade, acho difícil crer que eu teria a mesma rede de apoio. Sendo assim, a seleção pelo Hamdeok Complex foi extremamente fácil… Até porque, foi o que meu tutor sempre quis para mim.

E como você entrou? Alguém te indicou e você passou pelos testes, você se inscreveu voluntariamente para fazer os testes ou houve alguma contribuição monetária envolvida?

Fui indicado pelo meu tutor e treinador primário, e então passei pelo procedimento padrão de seleção. Realizei todos os testes, sim, e não houve qualquer contribuição monetária de minha parte ou de meu treinador.

Você certamente se destaca no esporte que pratica. O que motivou a sua escolha por ele?

Minhas raízes. É simples assim. O que uma criança vê, ela quer fazer, e esse foi o meu caso.

Pode nos contar, brevemente, sobre sua trajetória no esporte até o momento?

Eu comecei a treinar desde muito jovem, ah… Eu era uma criança excessivamente enérgica. O taekwondo era capaz de acalmar meus nervos… Sendo assim, eu fui incentivado, cada vez mais, a treinar. Eu sou extremamente cabeça-dura, o que é um defeito muito útil no esporte. Eu diria que não chego a ser tão competitivo quanto a maioria, mas tenho gana de realizar um trabalho bem-feito e irretocável… Isso é uma grande fixação minha, o que me move dentro do esporte muito bem.

Acredito que seja o aspecto glorioso da competição… Todos lutamos pelo nosso ápice dentro de nossas carreiras, nossos esportes. Duty after School is a new kdrama that premiered on March 31st with ten episodes divided into two parts. Duty after School is a kdrama about seniors at Seongjin High who started fighting a war against aliens floating in the sky. They started fighting to get extra credits for their CSAT exam, the college entrance exam. How would they end up? With love, friendship, trust, envy, and family, how would they end up?  It premiered on March 31st, 2023, with ten episodes divided into two parts. Duty after School is a TV original. Biografia:

Kiha nasceu na região metropolitana de Seul e é o primogênito (e único filho homem) dos Jang, uma família economicamente estável e relativamente religiosa. O rapaz foi criado dentro dos costumes e valores cristãos tal qual suas duas irmãs mas, desde pirralho, nunca foi muito interessado no que diz respeito a qualquer religião – tanto que nos dias atuais é improvável vê-lo pisando dentro de uma igreja, só em algumas exceções. Apesar de tudo, não teve uma infância conturbada e, tampouco, traumática; o único problema que Jang Sanha via no filho era o talento que Kiha possuía para coisas que não eram consideradas tradicionalmente masculinas, se levar em conta os padrões heteronormativos e conservadores que seguiam.

Primeiro que Kiha adorava mexer nos produtos de beleza das irmãs e da mãe. À época dos fatos Kiha perto dos dezesseis anos e, de vez em quando, ainda se sente uma leve culpa pela separação dos pais, apesar de considerar Sanha um idiota ter raros momentos de contato com ele. Acabou se mudando pra Seul junto da mãe e das irmãs, pois Kyungmi achou que seria melhor “recomeçar” a vida longe do local que lhe trazia tantas lembranças do casamento.

Já na capital, Kiha se dividia entre os estudos do colégio, um emprego de meio-período e reproduzindo tutoriais que encontrava pela internet. Após formado no ensino médio, com todas as economias que guardou no decorrer dos anos, pôde pagar um 미용실 학원 (basicamente um curso para oficialmente se tornar cabeleireiro) e começou a trabalhar num pequeno salão de beleza, pertinho de casa. Foi assim que seguiu até os quase vinte e quatro anos, quando abriu seu próprio estúdio. Demorou, não era lá muito grande, mas era seu.

Com o mundo digital cada vez mais presente na vida e nos negócios de várias pessoas, é claro que Kiha não fugiu à regra! O TikTok virou moda com todas aquelas dancinhas e músicas virais, o que rendeu uma ideia boba, mas que deu certo: gravar antes e depois de clientes dançando com eles. No começo era só uma brincadeira bobinha, só que um vídeo em específico acabou tomando proporções que nunca passaram pela cabeça do jovem cabeleireiro, quando se deu conta os seguidores haviam aumentado drasticamente e a agenda lotadíssima. Isso sem falar nas inúmeras propostas de parcerias e publicidades.

Com um bom gerenciamento, a situação financeira alterou-se de forma extremamente positiva. Workshops, parcerias com grandes marcas e produzir artistas acabou virando uma parte da rotina de Kiha, que também acabou se metendo na administração de uma rede de estúdios de beleza pelo país (que ainda não foi expandida no nível que ele deseja). Gerenciar o Psique Beauty no condomínio onde vive nos dias atuais não é algo que vê como uma necessidade mas, sim, um jeitinho de se conectar com mais pessoas que possuem o mesmo “status” e, claro, seguir com o projeto de elevar a autoestima de quem o procura.
