Wisdom 2.0: Connecting With Ourselves, Connecting With Each Other: An Evening Of Embodiment Practice | LinkedIn (August 2018): My Notes
With: Stephanie Meux (Wisdom 2.0) & David Treleaven (Strozzi Institute)
LinkedIn. August 2018. San Francisco, CA
Disclaimer: As with all of my published notes from workshops or conferences, these are in no way comprehensive. Nor are they a literal summation of what was said. They are simply my notes, my interpreted, perspective-ed reflections, photos, and jottings, that occasionally combine my own records & thoughts with those of the speakers. There might be some typos.
Looking. Up (:-)
Somatics & Embodiment – just because you know better, doesn’t necessarily mean you can do better.
Just because there’s intellectual understanding, doesn’t mean it will lead to new action under pressure…
Is what you’re practicing in you life aligned with your values?
Transformation isn’t just an idea, it’s a lived, felt experience.
By learning to tolerate uncomfortability, and vulnerability..
We practice, we practice, we practice, and then at some point it clicks.
1) You are what you practice.
2) You’re always practicing something.
3) Is what you’re practicing in alignment with what you care about / your values?
How can we be of support?
The connection between the mind & body.
Head. Heart. Intuition :)
Can we act from a place where these are all in alignment at the same time?

TEDxNorrköping: Carol Dweck: The Power Of Yet
From the TED Site:
“Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? A great introduction to this influential field.”

Altered Traits
May 2018. San Francisco, CA
SIY Teacher Training Cohort 4, Fieldwork, Module 1:
"An altered trait - a new characteristic that arises from a meditation practice - endures apart from meditation itself. Altered traits shape how we behave in our daily lives, not just during or immediately after we meditate." (pg. 6)
Altered Traits: Science Reveals How Meditation Changes Your Mind, Brain, and Body by Daniel Goleman & Richard Davidson
Good stuff so far! And in alignment with my personal experience of meditation.

SIY Teacher Community Gathering: Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization (Sept. 2018)
Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. September 2018. San Francisco, CA
Dear SIY Teachers & Teachers-In-Training,
Looking forward to seeing you all at our SIY Community Gathering on Thursday!
Two colleagues and myself will be leading a session titled “Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization”. In it we’ll explore what "Mindfulness" means in the workplace, and how it can help increase awareness of the gap that often exists between an individuals’ pursuit of wellbeing within an organization, and the organizations’ goals, often driven by productivity & profit. We will explore whether, and in what capacity, there can be alignment, and if so, how it can be cultivated and supported.
We will also look at how we can respond to attempts of Mindfulness being used in organizations to assuage reactions to toxic work environments, and unhealthy work schedules & demands Vs. attempting to address & change the root causes of these problems….. And particularly in the field of Education, are we bringing mindfulness & Yoga into the classroom to get students to be more at peace with, and generate less push back to, unhealthy environments, unfair treatment, and bias teaching practices? How do we create better experiences for them, as well as for teachers, and simultaneously not gloss over “mis-behaviors” that are often a response to feeling unsafe, unheard, and not respected?
This session will take place at 1:30pm.
Before hand, I will be teaching a dance called Freedom, for anyone interested. This is the same dance that was taught in April, during our in-person teacher training at Futures Without Violence.
I look forward to seeing you there! :)

SIY Teacher Community Gathering: Movement Activity: Freedom (Sept. 2018)
Dear SIY Teachers & Teachers-In-Training,
I will be teaching the choreography to a dance called “Freedom”, set to the song Freedom by Pharrell Williams. We will dance for half an hour, for the latter part of lunch, beginning at 1pm.
This is the same dance that was taught at the in-person teacher training back in April.
While there’s no need to prepare anything ahead of time, below is a video of the choreography, if you’d like to see the kind of movement we’ll be doing.
Later in the afternoon, two colleagues and myself will be leading a session titled “Creating A Culture Of Mindfulness Within An Organization”. In it we’ll explore what "Mindfulness" means in the workplace, and how it can help increase the awareness of the gap that often exists between an individuals’ pursuit of wellbeing within an organization, and the organizations’ goals, often driven by productivity & profit. Jakey + New Running Shoes + Fit Bit = Preparing For A Marathon
August 2018. San Francisco, CA
Well. It’s been decided. Jakey + New Running Shoes + Fit Bit = Preparing For A Marathon; I’ve never run a marathon before, and that seems like all the more reason to try... :) June 2019. And coincidently, on my Mom’s Birthday. The past few years have been a real testament to what not prioritizing self-care can look & feel like. And I’m not interested in that way of being anymore. Or in devoting my energy & efforts toward things that don’t make my heart sing.
Soooooooo, I’ve started running 🏃🏾♀️😀
Official prep will begin 6 months in advance — now I’m just pre-training.
The wonderful thing, I’m learning, about making a commitment, and furthermore a public commitment / declaration, is that it helps me hold myself accountable. So when I want to run, but feel like I can’t afford the exercise time... Well, then I’d be going back on my commitment (!). And I’ve committed to (at the very least try my best to) run a marathon 🤗
