My Commentary: This small but significant sequence takes place not long after Koushiro is revealed to be a canon Adoptee. Mrs. Izumi is fully aware that Koushiro has accepted Mrs. Izumi (+Izumis both) as Koushiro's true parent{s}, however, we are not given indication that the other supporting characters were actually told about 'the secret' of Koushiro's. Shin's surprise, in that regard, can hardly be held too much against Shin - which Mrs. Izumi eventually quickly recognizes, dropping the argument and frustration - Shin was likely completely unaware how strongly Mrs. Izumi felt during these moments, while Mrs. Izumi was likely running on pure adrenaline responding!

Mrs. Izumi, in the original version, is also using a neutrally polite speech pattern that is overall appropriate when speaking to children; Koushiro, in the original, is also known for speaking throughout the entire series with a formal and polite pattern that is "unusual" for Koushiro's age, while it's more "typical" for Mrs. Izumi to use similar in this sequence.

Shin Kido, Jou's 2nd eldest sibling closer in age, the 2nd born of the three Kidos, is the sibling who appears throughout Adventure Episodes 35~39 and later Adventure-specific episodes (such as flashback sequence in Dark Masters arc) specifically. In the 2nd sequel series, "02", Jou's oldest sibling, Shuu, was introduced. The U. S. dub combined "Shin" and "Shuu" into "Jim", a singular character, but they were actually two separate siblings! (Thus, Jou is speaking to Shin as if Shin is the younger of the two siblings, addressing Shin commonly with a 'casual' "Nii-san", though in this scene, Jou sounds surprisingly more 'assured' and perhaps a slight bit 'full of' self, but is quickly grounded by Sora and Mimi not long after.)

(Episode start): {Tentomon}: Koushiro-han! Let’s take a little break! {Koushiro, only briefly pauses, with a notably perturbed look}: I want to meet Gennai-san as soon as possible! {Tentomon, insistent}: But even so, it’s already been two months! {Koushiro, surprisingly direct, and yet still using typical speech*}: (*Koushiro in the J.P.N version commonly uses a more polite J.P.N speech form than characters like Yamato, or even Taichi, which is quite notable with Koushiro.)

“It doesn’t matter HOW LONG it takes!!” {Tentomon, immediately in response}: (*sighing*)/(*sweatdrop*) {Koushiro, matter-of-factly/calmly}: I’m going ahead. {Tentomon, quickly}: A-aa, Koushiro-han, wait for me!...

(They walk together as the calm OST {music} track playing fades.)

My commentary: Episode 24, Koushiro’s focus episode where Koushiro will later obtain the Crest of Knowledge, opens on this scene, and in the original version, right away, you begin to get a feel of the character progress he will eventually have- For a start, Koushiro actually insists a little at Tentomon. The Adventure novel (also penned by a head/“main” director + writer, Hiroyuki Kakudou) indicates in a later Dark Masters “Arc” scene that Koushiro “never” raised Koushiro’s voice towards a “senpai”/“upperclassman” - especially NOT Taichi, as the scene stating that line involved Taichi - and even these lines Koushiro states using overall “polite��� form J.P.N speech, but Koushiro DOES insist a little, and it’s very obvious from the look on Koushiro’s face that Koushiro Means Business, OK, Don’t Argue With Me On This! Tentomon responds by immediately sighing, and another common pattern of this episode are the close-ups of Tentomon’s reactions to basically everything Koushiro is saying.

Tentomon clearly notes that it’s been “TWO MONTHS” in the Digital World since Taichi vanished. The novel is a bit more vague there, but it’s also a direct timeline clue - keeping in mind the time difference between the worlds. However, it also hadn’t been longer than two months since Koushiro split from the group of other Chosen, who Koushiro left behind in the search. Koushiro’s plan is apparently to FIND “Gennai” - It seems Koushiro believes Gennai can help with the search.

The novel does go a little more in depth in various places there... Taichi isn’t directly mentioned, {though still goes missing} but Koushiro, DOES feel a “pull” by the Crest of Knowledge - not knowing it’s the Crest. Vademon will then proceed to immediately trick Koushiro & Tentomon by scamming Koushiro out of Koushiro’s often-referred to as “Inquisitive Heart”, convincing Koushiro that what Koushiro “needs” is ““Knowledge””.

But the fake, anti-intellectualist “Knowledge” Vademon talks about is not necessarily the kind of actual “Knowledge” Koushiro NEEDS...

Tentomon clearly recognizes at least a little of this, and with the ‘expressions’ (sudden shocked or panicky movements) Tentomon ‘gives’, often reacts in turn.

The style is one in which starters are the characters talking to their "mun" or players, which is common when "voice-testing" a character to possibly app {apply} into a future {typically pan-fandom, or cross-canon across multiple fan-bases} DWrp {Dreamwidth.org} rp game. Games usually have their own settings, styles and rules and you should carefully consider them before applying to any. (I eventually ended up applying for Koushiro at a DigiAdv{s}-centric game that ended up eventually dying...)

I whited out a few parts to give the former Tai-mun a bit of privacy, but to my knowledge I haven't seen them as active since. Hopefully they won't mind me posting just one old thread between us, because it was really really fun to try back then! Even playing Koushiro was still really fun, despite it being for a very short timeframe of a couple years + even if I never found an active Taichi player {+in a close in age range} to me since.

This was BEFORE Tri had fully aired or before Kokuhaku was even announced, so Koushiro has a small mix of icons I'm using, but sometimes I switch between "canon-points" of early Adventure!Koushiro or late, OWG era or post-02 but pre-epilogue!Koushiro. Tri!Koushiro wasn't even animated more animatedly yet (and much later had very limited appearance in Saikai, etc.), so I was mainly relying on my head-canons for a Koushiro that appears between 2002 and the epilogue, but I often imagined Koushiro of those ages still sticking very close to both 02 and Tri looks. {I did like Tri giving Koushiro back slightly spikier hair, because that was how I imagined Koushiro during in-between years too.} Muns could later go back and update some icons, so some default icons may later change as well. {That's how a Tri!Taichi icon shows here even though it's 2k12}

Also, its very fun because you can personalize your responses even using things like subject headers way better than on this kind of site, and sometimes muns leave you really fun and kind messages that make you want to cry so you try to show them appreciation in turn!!!

For Autism Awareness Month {April in U.S.+World} {Autistic!Koushiro Headcanon} + Jewish-American Heritage Month {May in U.S.}

-A.U. {Alternate Universe} where Koushiro and Steve have notably more {visible to "Viewer"/"Reader"}; One-on-one interaction between "Our War Game" (and most {eventual} International Chosen discovering "The Network" and Koushiro's involvements in helping + observing it + keep the Inter-national Chosen connected) and "The Beginning";

-In "The Beginning", as the U.S. Chosen are gathered, while it's not outright stated, it's not unreasonable to assume they were keeping an eye on Network updates made by Miyako earlier on to the Network, also often related via Koushiro, {+related by 02 Chosen}. (The pattern in my A.U.s overall likely goes, Koushiro -> Miyako + 02 Chosen {+Iori}; then, 02 Chosen -> back to Koushiro when involving 02 team's extended efforts, who actively helps analyze any info they send, then shares it + any theorizing to the Network)

-In this A.U., Steve, who as a Jew doesn't particularly 'enjoy' being kept in the 'dark' about Whats Happening to the Self when it's impacting Steve's {religious} (+daily) life, ends up reaching out to Koushiro earlier on to try and get to know the Chosen in Odaiba better, and also show solidarity with Koushiro's group's efforts. In the end, it's likely because of Koushiro's extended earlier efforts, as well as getting to know the U.S. Chosen better in Steve's own time, that Steve succeeds in remaining semi-active as a main member of the U . S. Chosen, and semi-active in acting as support that can easily be called upon, like most International Chosen.

-Koushiro and Steve in this A.U. share a friendship and communication style that TRANSCENDS what most may think of as "friendship" or "good" styles of ""communication"" - both know (Steve especially also knowing thanks to own culture) that no matter how far apart they are, they can always rely on each other to be there when needed (or wanted), even if it's difficult to "physically" meet up in off-line life.

-As stated in this scene, Steve wasn't necessarily first 'Chosen' in 1991, or at least not 'exactly' in the same timeframe as Michael. (I also headcanon Steve being some months older than Michael, who I consider to be around the same age/Japanese school year as Koushiro and Mimi, so Steve would possibly be on the older end of year, for the most part, if not born the same year/timeframe as Taichi, just Chosen a little later.)

A golem, {in Jewish texts and Jewish folklore} is a clay creature that has been magically brought to life. The name comes from the Hebrew word “golem,” which means something incomplete or unfinished, like an embryo.

In popular legend, however, the golem became a kind of folk hero. Tales of mystical rabbis creating life from dust abounded, particularly in the Early Modern period, and inspired such tales as Frankenstein and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”  Sometimes the golem saves the Jewish community from persecution or death, enacting the kind of heroism or revenge unavailable to powerless Jews. Often, however, Jewish folktales about the golem tell what happens when things go awry — when the power of life-force goes astray, often with tragic results.

The classic narrative of the golem tells of how Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague (known as the Maharal; 1525-1609) creates a golem to defend the Jewish community from antisemitic attacks. But eventually, the golem grows fearsome and violent, and Rabbi Loew is forced to destroy it. (Legend tells that the golem remains in the attic of the Altneushul in Prague, ready to be reactivated if needed; this legend reappeared in Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay). Likewise in Paul Wegener’s expressionist film The Golem (1920), the golem is a brutish creature whose powers are all-too-easily turned to destructive ends.

This is, of course, a perfect encapsulation of the same anxiety that underlies so much of the mystical speculation about demons, dybbuks, ghosts, and golems: The power of life is so strong, that it brings both promise and terror.

Before talking about in-depth or ‘reviewing’ this episode, I’d very much like if the fanbase could keep in mind not only the said folklore that blatantly inspired this Digimons’ design and canonical lores, but also be careful in their commentaries about this episode as a result.

They are a very specifically Jewish folklore, and within our storytelling tradition are pretty complex creatures created to protect, but with potential for destruction. Often golems are taken out of that context, by people who are not Jewish, to be used just as monsters.

For many folks that isn’t an issue, but for others (myself included) that feels a bit uncomfortable, as the (perhaps unintended) message can be seen as “creatures that protect Jewish people are really monsters.”

[Keeping this information] in mind and being AWARE of the history of the golem in our folklore will prevent issues relevant to handling this topic. {Especially if you are considering either commentating on the character itself, the story within the episode portrayed along with it, or using or referring to the character within future fanworks.}

Ofani = From Ofanim, an alternative spelling of Ophanim (אוֹפָנים) (「オファニム」 Ofanimu) is the third highest rank of angels. Their name literally means "Wheels" and are often depicted as burning wheels.

I UNDERSTAND many fans of Koushiro here are incredibly PASSIONATE about his adoption backstory in the original Adventure series, I AM, MYSELF.

IT’S EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO ME AS SOMEONE WHO IS NOT 100% BLOOD RELATED TO MY OWN FAMILY ...AND HEAVILY RELATES TO KOUSHIRO IZUMI FOR THIS REASON.

REGARDLESS: THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME LEFT for the Izumi family to be revealed in-depth down the road. PLEASE, PLEASE do not instantly fret about Koushiro’s backstory “not happening” this early on. Even in the original series, it did not get revealed until Episode 38. We only just passed Episode 36, there might be many more episodes to go, and there’s more than enough time for Toei to wrap up Koushiro’s story arc down the road, even if it doesn’t happen around the same timeframe as the original.

PLEASE DO NOT INSTANTLY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TURN-OUT OF KOUSHIRO’S COMPLETE STORY BEFORE IT EVEN HAPPENS.

Q: –Please tell us what points you focused on during production for this movie. A: {Kinoshita}: Digimon Adventure LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna is a movie with the primary goal of bringing joy to those who have walked alongside Digimon, and being “fascinating” to those who are meeting Digimon for the first time. We’ve hidden things that those who are coming into Digimon for the first time might find fun, and I would like the series to expand and continue. For instance, we would like it if, five years from now, fans and their children could watch Digimon together. Thus, we thought about what we should do in order to achieve that purpose.

So, we thought about updating it in the sense of “a modern-anime should be like this!”, and also about how we needed to destroy established conventions of “Digimon should be like this.” By this, I don’t mean that we should disrespect our fans who are so important to us, but rather, as the creators, subvert their ideas of “this is how it should be.” It was along the line of thought that if we make the kind of story that everyone would already be expecting, we won’t be able to bring joy to anyone.

Of course, for the fans, we feel that their feelings for the past series, from Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02 and beyond, must be very precious to them.

So, adding on tri., we thought about taking the prior series, setting the world of 25 years later shown in the epilogue of 02 as the end goal, and decided to tell a connecting story of “Taichi and his friends in 2010” that hadn’t been depicted yet.

I believe Digimon to be a wonderful series of media, and this movie is made as a declaration of our need to take on a challenge and “transform” it so that

it can spread wider than ever.

This is the end of Taichi and his friends’ time as protagonists of the story, but their lives will continue on from here, and that world of 25 years later is still waiting ahead of them. As they continue to live, there will be bigger and smaller incidents that come forth, and facing that world of 25 years later does not mean that things will always go well.

This is not a movie meant to change the world’s timeline, but rather made to be a connecting story that happened within those 25 years, and we consider it to be a story

that expands the world of Digimon.

Yousuke Kinoshita was also one of the producers on Tri’s earlier movie “Kyousei” / “Coexistence”, Tri Movie #5. He then went on to become the main Producer of Kizuna.

This interview was published on July 30, 2021, and ever since then, I’ve continued to see rapid misinformation spread on Kizuna and Toei’s production of it/the current series/numerous fans who personally disliked Tri attempting to claim Kizuna as "wanting to ignore/leave out tri” and bold claims that

“the original Adventure[s] series is NEVER going to continue after Kizuna”. “Toei obviously no longer want to continue Adventure[s] after Kizuna, so Adventures fans need to ‘move on’ already.”

... Despite literally everything stated in these particular interviews.

I wish people in this fandom who seriously want to consider the series’ canon would take the time to actually THOROUGHLY read all the producers’ interviews that have been translated thus far before they make such BOLD commentaries.

–Are there any particular points where you’d like people to pay attention to when rewatching? Yamatoya: The truth is, I’ve thought about what I think would happen in the story after this, and put in a lot of hints about it. As we’ve promised, this is a story that connects to the epilogue of 02, but even though we won’t be depicting what happens after the movie for the time being, Taichi and the others are going to be striving towards that ending. They’re definitely not going to give up, and I believe

Afterwards, the world met with even greater trouble. These children, and the others who were chosen in 1999, were shown to be doing very well even 25 years later, but that doesn’t mean that they had lived their days in peace all that time. Even in 02’s final episode, it was stated that “The road each had taken to get there had not been an easy one.”

The {*Digimon informative} video that Hikari had begun to make {*in this drama CD track} grew to be surprisingly useful, while the memorandum {*book} Takeru had started writing was delayed in publishing until he was able to calmly and objectively describe the situations.

This is a clear callback to Takeru’s writings / him being the “narrator” of Adventure & 02.)

Their courage and friendship. Their purity and love. Their knowledge and sincerity. Their hope. Their kindness. And all of their light.

The tale of these 12 children, which extended from 1999 to 2002 is now brought to an end*. {*during the timeframe of the drama CD’s production} But even in 2003, and the years after that, they continue to live.

Suzuki: We talked a lot with Director Motonaga [*Tri director/writer] about whether the relationship between Taichi and Yamato should change [*In Tri]. (*see the full interview link below for further contexts on this) Also, since Koushirou was the one who was always by Taichi’s side, we had Koushirou be the one to give advice whenever something happened. Nakanishi: When you think about it now, Koushirou likes Taichi a little too much (laughs). Suzuki: He does (laughs).
