SPOILERS AFTER THE CUT- @joopsworld AVERT YOUR EYES
i was a mad hater of chaol and i didn’t want to read tower of dawn at all and i am here to admit the error of my ways and it might be my favorite book in the series now😭 reading about chaol and yrene’s healing and the love between nesryn and sartaq really just stitched something together within me, i don’t even know how many times i cried reading it
and now i just started kingdom of ash and i’m only 10 pages in and tell me why i’m losing my mind at
“once upon a time, in a land long since burned to ash, there lived a young princess who loved her kingdom…”
i’m not ready for her to die! i’m not ready!
#i’m not ready i’m so nervous#all i’ve heard is that this book is going to devestate me beyond repair#throne of glass#tower of dawn#kingdom of ash#iz’s book club!

BACKSTORY:
I was born in Lyon as the eldest of triplets, the children of British traveller and writer Robert Allard and French model and photographer Élisabeth Tessier.
Less than a year after we were born our father was offered the chance to host a travel programme called The Strider for the BBC. Together with our mother they decided to take me and my siblings on those journeys.
Since then, we have spent more time on the road than in our home in France. Together, we have explored Australia and Northern Europe, both Americas, and a good part of Africa.
Despite the unusual conditions, our parents took great care of our education and development. I had private tuitions, practised ballet and singing, learned to play a few instruments. During those travels, I aslo learnt about the culture and traditions of the countries we visited and learnt a couple of languages.
We have settled in the USA for a few years where my siblings and I finished high school. It was then that I met my best friends to this day; Judy and Kayleigh. I later got into Harvard, where I studied psychology and linguistics.
I got my first role - Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - at the age of six; I went to the audition out of curiosity. Later I also played the young Alia Atreides in Dune, but I didn't tie my future to acting. My love for it was born in the high school drama club. My return in front of the cameras was the 1990 film Millie, but it was with the role of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park, which I got at the age of seventeen, that I was truly noticed. Other productions followed and with them came increasing success and popularity.
At the beginning of the university, I began to take interest in music - my first album, The Woman Who Love Too Much, was released in 1994 and it quickly became clear that I was as talented an actress as I was a singer.
At age of twenty I move alone to cottage house near Zurich.
LIKES: strawberries, misty and rainy weather, incenses and scented candles, cold pizza, winter mornings, sweets, the sea, spices, nightly baths in the lake, self-care days, the wind in my hair when I'm horse riding, forests, long walks, fireplaces
DISLIKES: arrogant people, feelings of lack of control, violence, hot weather, loud noises, bright and cool light, being sick, small and closed spaces, peanut butter, chlorine smell
* For the year 1998, to which I'm shifting to,
** Self-scripted roles/films

Upper Wisdom and Lower Wisdom
I've been doing a lot more contemplating on the idea of the 6 cardinal directions; the og four (east, south, west, and north) as well as above and below. I think they're more pervasive than I thought. I reference the four directions a lot in my practice, letting them represent the four elements we each have to nurture and balance within us to life a fulfilling life. But I'm wondering where the above and below fit into this paradigm.
This is something I use a lot in my tarot readings. Reading cards, we move left to right like a sentence. If we place a card behind our focus, it symbolizes the past, and vice versa with the future. I often feel called to place cards above or below a card to uncover more upper wisdom or lower wisdom.
I found my favorite definitions not even in a "witchy," book, but from psychologist Bill Plotkin in Nature and the Human Soul. He has several passages devoted to each, but here's the highlight reel;
"Upperworld denotes transpersonal states of consciousness identified with spirit and characterized by unity, grace, bliss, transcendence, emptiness, light, enlightenment, the celestial realm, and pure awareness. During upperworld experiences, consciousness communes with or merges with spirit, in this way disidentifying from all personal and cultural beliefs, goals, desires, and attachments. Here the conscious self is transcended.
[...]
Underworld signifies transpersonal states of consciousness and identity associated with soul and character ized ny depth, darkness, demons, that daemon, the subconscious, sacred woundings, dreams, the unknown or not-yet-known,shadow, death, and visions of personal and cultural destiny. This is Hades, the domain of soul encounter, the realm in which the conscious self is deepened and matured."
We all have the four elements within us which on their own can also be polarized into yin and yang. We each have a balance of yin (the synergy of water and earth) and yang (the conjunction of fire and air) that needs maintained. Upper and lower wisdom feels like something outside of ourselves.
Upper wisdom is what calls us to connect to each other. It's our collective empathy with Palestine. It's giving a dollar to a homeless person. It's baking a birthday cake for a child you don't really know. It's that toy that reminds you of that one time with your sister. It's what drives you out of your house even after you've had a really really bad day because you promised your best buddy you'd go to the club.
Even though lower wisdom and the underworld can also be conceptualized as our innermost souls, our darkest depth of shadow, our wild human nature is something that is only bestowed upon us. We have no control over it, we have no say in what it does. Our emotions are natural. Every time I go on a vision quest I find incredible things, images and pictures I never expected my brain to be able to dream up. I'm always blown away by my own psyche. I don't understand it, but we don't need to because the beauty is in the journey. Lower wisdom is our destiny calling to us through the fog and folds of time and space.

Oo-de-lally! Oo-de-lally! Welcome to Wonderful World of Darklords! One year ago today, we aired our pilot: a domain ruled by a petty, vindictive lion who usurped his elder brother's throne. To celebrate our podcast anniversary, we're returning to that well with another petty, vindictive lion who usurped his elder brother's throne: Prince John. Topics discussed include:
The challenges of Ravenloft-izing a movie in which the hero is far more dynamic, interesting, and competent than the villain (not a common issue in Disney movies);
The darklord powers that a villain as pathetic as Prince John can bring to the table;
How to bring horror into one of the most lighthearted, silly, and non-horrific movies in the Disney canon, without going against the spirit of the Robin Hood legend;
The potential that the Merry Men have for guerrilla warfare, creepy fey magic, and unspeakable cultic practices;
and more!

the more I read abt it the more I think the firing of Victoria Alonso is a bad sign, bc she wasn't just some uninvolved suit she was working on the movies from the beginning and approving all the final visuals, so hearing her as a gay Latina talking about trying to push for better representation and publicly criticizing Disney for funding the Don't Say Gay stuff is a bit chilling, along with reading the articles that she recently conflicted with marvel over refusing to blur out pride flags in the background of the newest antman & how they got mad at her for promoting an Argentinian historical film about a dictatorship in Argentina that the US sponsored during/as part of the Cold War.
feels like her firing wasn't just a lot of the mass cost-cutting going on rn, but also part of an american boy's club culture among others in power over there that was tired of her pushing for lgbt inclusion and doing projects that promoted not just non-American politics but specifically politics that questioned the US' 20th century legacy and its heavy revisionism upheld by America's history books & propagandized media. It's like the marvel brand pushing towards a uniform US-centrism that makes little room for minorities cultures or stories that can encroach against their American corporate politics too directly without being behind a bunch of opaque metaphors or being brushed away to the background or being overwritten by newer stories that do away with opportunities for representation or inclusion of other perspectives.
Ask #2:
I mean, look at the how marvel in paper and cinematic mediums treated the Winter Soldier Cap plotline. It had Steve and Bucky, 2 soldiers who served their country to fight Nazis in WW2 in an integrated transnational unit, both get dragged into the 21st century to find that the Captain America image has been turned into a propaganda tool by the government and the very same government hired and funded the Nazis they fought in WW2, who then turned Bucky into a mindcontrolled slave. That had the potential to have the most direct analogy and critique of the IRL USA, but then what happens in the fallout of that movie and how do the characters and world get affected by this revelation?
Nothing much, there's no lingering distrust in the government that funded this, even among characters who were directly affected. Characters with origins in the same Nazi organization get funny dances and memes or favorable adaptations. Even though Steve dropped the shield and Cap role, this hardly turns into a long term character development of him questioning the country he serves (as an Irish immigrant in the early 20th c who would've been other-ized already) instead Steve goes back to fighting for it under a notion of legacy and symbol and the shield is characterized as so so important to him. Bucky, the one most directly affected by the US hiring the Nazis who enslaved him, just ends up meekly serving the government itself and trying to abide by its criminal laws that deemed him a perpetrator even though reasonable minds, Steve, should be demanding reparations even if there's no hope of that actually happening. There's no reckoning to how both Bucky and Steve being treated as little else than supersoldier weapons by their own government. Instead, newer stories just focus on more ways they can serve it without ever questioning the very core of their inexplicable loyalty to an entity that took part of their exploitation, which could serve as a cathartic progression and consequence of the Winter Soldier plotline and create potential for fresher stories that deal with what if the former Cap characters said "enough of this BS," but instead marvel church's out more of the cap'n murrica: [insert name of IRL war the US has heavily propagandized the shit of and now uses for patriotic media marketing]
that really shows the limitations of what marvel does with their politics, the closest thing they got to accurate historical critique of a real life event (the Western Allies hiring Nazis post-WW2) also gave birth to the most popular take on the characters in both mediums, and yet none of it comes close to actually pushing the status quo in the fictional world or to progressing the characters into something that reflects their stances on the exploitation they underwent by "their own people." The characters involved ironically almost develop amnesia to the bombshells in the Winter Soldier plotline and regress into Generic Murrican Old White Guy #1 and #2 to serve as prop pieces within US-centric status quo stories ad infinitum
Ask #3:
to give a more specific example: marvel's newest Captain America event thing goes by "Cold War" and is about a secret shadow government that controls the entire world (gee, wonder what kind of far rightist repeats that kind of conspiracy theory) and they are also known as... The Revolution (really tossing aside all subtlety there!) and they're conveniently responsible for every bad thing the USA and its allies did for the past 200 years (way to completely render their best Cap story meaningless)
meanwhile, the IRL Cold War had the US fund fascist movements in Africa, Asia & LatAm (literally what the 1985 Argentinian film that marvel's execs got annoyed with is about) and said movements repressed grassroots movements constituted by people at the bottom of the political hierarchies there, not a secretly powerful group known as "The Revolution."
Their newest comics completely turn the "Cold War" on its head to appeal to the reactionary anxieties that America is secretly under attack by some secret shadow group, even when the IRL power dynamic was radically different. The WS stories were the closest they ever got to pulling away from regurgitating decades-old US propaganda, and it also happens to be the most popular and humanizing in fleshing out its characters into with actual emotion and connection. And yet the franchise can't help but revert back to their roots and invalidate that entire story just so they can repeatedly pumping out Murrican stories that'd make McCarthy look up and smile.
Sorry I didn't respond to this for a while, I wanted to make sure I had the time to sit down and read and appreciate what you had to say. And as far as I'm aware of Marvel stuff, I can safely say, unfortunately, I think you're right. Right on the money.
I don't think her firing was cutting costs or anything of the sort. If they could fire anyone... it seems very targeted to fire her, and it, sadly, doesn't surprise me 🙃
I hate it here.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to write all this down because yes--you're so right, and I don't actually have much of anything to add because you explained it so well. You're being critical, and it's good. Recognizing what is happening is the first step to changing what is happening.
It's beyond shitty that huge corporations like Marvel can't be representative and diverse and kill so, so much of the actually interesting parts of their content in favor of saving face for more conservative views and people.

silly little high fantasy au for my urban fantasy witches :D
💕more brain rot under the cut💕
hayden: a silly quirky guy up to silly quirky exploits. she flirts with the Big City's duchess and plays the role of a dashing ne'er-do-well spectacularly. most people in the Big City don't know she's a witch---and she likes to keep it that way (she makes enemies). i gave her a high fantasy-ized outfit and slapped a cloak on top.
scarlet (in my notes i wrote "teehee, scarlet witch"): a witch in a normal town. she spends her time treating colds and hearing tall tales from the local kids. her closest confidant is cynthia, the only witch she can really relate to. most of her look is inspired by victorian era fashion, with a touch of howl for funsies.
cynthia: a vigilante of sorts. she's far more powerful than she seems, and not only is her boob window there for looks, it's also there to show her magically glowing heart (her FUCK OFF feature). no one knows how old she is, but she's far too nosy to become an ancient witch in a forest somewhere. mostly just copied how i normally draw her, with some neat earrings and a imposing silhouette added.
spica: is she human? is she not human? no one knows and she makes everyone uncomfortable. with a Traumatic Fantasy Backstory and a big ol spear, one thing's for sure: you should stay on her good side. she changed the most from her og design because teehee! i ran out of ideas <3 i just think it's funny to have an ominous lady with a thousand yard stare and a large weapon.
xiao-hong: the duchess is obviously not human, but she wants to keep the "witch" part of her identity on the DL. in many ways, she is the gay elsa that elsa could never be. and also with fire :) her and hayden smooch normally so i thought it would be cute to have them smooch but in a gay high fantasy way. she got a cool dress i saw on here and the wings like the ukranian lady from [beauty pagent i can't remember]. badass wings.
brigitte: she lives in a small village and she likes it that way. her best friend is her cat, leonardo. she is small, mean, and angry, and i love that for her tbh. she and xiao have a book club. for her she's obv more of a typical medieval farm girl, plus some cool face paint (that feels weird to call it, but it is that) inspired a bit by typical fantasy war paint and a bit by a pair of neat slavic gloves i saw on here.
scarlet recruited them all into a coven of sorts, where they gossip (scarlet and cynthia), flirt (hayden and xiao), and be threatening (spica and brigitte, bless her heart).
anyways. if you read all that ur a real one. their urban fantasy backstories are frankly more batshit than these ones, but that's because the ideas for most of em have been around since i was in middle school and i've just run with it. but that's a spiel for another time.

the fanfic writer's struggle between "this media doesn't entirely lend itself to fanfic and I don't want to be seen as one of those people that only views media as a set of characters to be shipped together" and "I consider myself a serious writer and I have an idea that could really add another layer of dimension to this story/character, and I really want to write it"
was gonna put this next bit in the tags but it got too wordy so
It's like. some media is very easy to write fanfic for. superhero movies. star wars. action movies. things like that. It's not that these movies can't have important or strong messages, or that the fanfic can't also have genuine presence as a piece of writing, but the nature of it makes it much easier to build off of and even, sometimes, improve with a well-written fanfic
and there's some media that I would never consider writing fanfiction for at all. historical movies and biopics jump to mind. I mean, I love Bohemian Rhapsody, and y'all know I find Ben Hardy incredibly attractive, but I wouldn't ever write a BoRhap fic because Roger Taylor is a very real living person with his own history, and it feels disrespectful to fanfic-ize that.
But there's this gray area that I struggle with, where the media has enough richness and depth to its messages to make me want to explore them, but is genuine or serious enough for the prospect of writing fanfiction about it to feel almost disrespectful. I have an idea based on the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires that would expand on the themes of subtle abuse and domestic misogyny that the book talks about, but I'm afraid if I wrote it people might see it as falling into the same trap as the book itself warns about (i.e. people being willing to ignore a person's misgivings/crimes just because they're attractive), even though the fic is meant to expand on these themes rather than ignoring them.
And it's hitting me again after I watched the Last Voyage of the Demeter. It's right in the sweet spot where it's like... I have a cool idea that I think would work with the setup of the universe and themes, and would be consistent with the characters and potentially even provide a bit more depth/backstory to characters who otherwise aren't given much, but the tone of the movie is just serious enough where it feels wrong to say 'hey look I wrote fanfic about this'
#and i'm not saying all fanfic has to be 'serious writing' i just mean in the context of these specific ideas#i guess it's just that my main interest as a writer is to explore interesting characters#interesting characters have strong themes. but strong themes sometimes mean 'if you write about this it'll get misinterpreted'#idk. sometimes i like to do genuine media analysis through the lens of ocs and fanfic and that's hard on the no reading comp website

Book Review for Accidentally Amy
This book was so funny, insane sweet, grossly underrated, and lived up to the hype for those that gave it a chance. I can’t even describe how much I adored this book and the characters. From Iz’s word vomit, to Blake’s commitment to honest and ethics, to even Josh and his crew, Accidentally Amy grabs your attention from the moment it starts and leaves you with a comforting sigh and a sense of satisfaction when it ends.
There are many things Isabella Shay will do for a Pumpkin Spice Latte, run across town in three inch heels, nearly be late for work on her first day, but steal? Well technically it is not stealing if she already paid for the drink, right? And it would be an injustice to just leave PSL patiently waiting on the counter as the Barista calls out the owner’s name with no takers. Out of options and convinced nothing bad could possibly happen, Izzy claims Amy’s coffee with seconds to get out the door, only to successfully spill said coffee all over the most beautiful chest, I mean man she has ever had the pleasure of scolding. Completely mortified and now officially late, Izzy attempts to rectify the situation that quickly turns flirtatious. Determined to not be fired on her first day, she leaves the stranger behind…only to run into him again leaving the gym (this must be fate), and again at her office – as her boss (the universe officially hates her). The situation goes from bad to worse when her replacement introduces her as Izzy, not Amy (she had planned on explaining that later!) Muttering the ill-fated words “let me explain”, Iz is convinced she is about to be fired when her story is met with a scowl instead of a smile. No problem, she can fix this! What starts as an onslaught of text messages to apologize turns into an unorthodox friendship between her and the AVP of her company. Determined to remain friends and despite their insane chemistry, Iz creates a set of rules that will keep their newfound friendship above board, as long as they are never…EVER alone!
I am so happy I stumbled upon Lynn Painter! Looking forward to watching her continuously skyrocket to the top of bestseller list for years to come.

Masovna edukacija bez love
Book club - fail prvi
Prvi pokušaj da uvedem čitanje u moju direkciju nije prošao uspješno. Organizirao sam book club. Odaziv je bio slab do nikakav. Isprobao sam svašta da održim book club: mijenjati termine, slao sam upitnike, poklanjao sam knjige. Bezuspješno. Naposljetku je umro. Flat-line.
Nedavno sam krenuo s drugim eksperimentom. Čitanje ne-čitanjem. Fran me usmjerio na tu mogućnost.
To zovem EPP - Edukativni Program Petkom. Poželite mi sreću da će ovaj pokušaj uspjeti. Pišite u komentare da li vam ima smisla ovaj oblik edukacije te da li vi i kako provodite soft-skill edukacije za svoje djelatnike. To all my new followers
Hi, it seems my dank memeing (sorry) has paid off and I’ve gotten some new followers. Hello, new friends! I’m truebluewhocanoe, and this is my Doctor Who blog. My main blog is @monarchetype but it’s not as active right now. I write fanfiction on ao3 under the name Monarchetype; here are the Doctor Who fics I’ve written so far:
Confluence, a microfic about the passing of Sarah Jane Smith
Undead End, a canon-compliant fic detailing what I think really went down during Logopolis
A Black Fire Burning, where I Dr Nyarlathotep-ize a scene from the PDA The Quantum Archangel
The Award-Winning Expansion of Rassilon, a crossover between Doctor Who and Final Fantasy XIV. A collection of scenes starring Doctor Who characters in a Who-ified version of FFXIV’s setting. Ongoing, with disconnected scenes as chapters added as I write them.
Died With Him, a Seventh Doctor-centric piece that comes after Time and the Rani but really just serves as a coda to the audio The Brink of Death
Shooting Star, a stream-of-consciousness fic following the Thirteenth Doctor for the two hours it takes her to fall to Earth between the events of Twice Upon A Time and The Woman Who Fell To Earth
The Eternal Mystery, a short fic following a character who appears for 2 minutes in a non-canon promo short made for one of the Blu-Ray DVD releases. Yes, really. It also talks about Peri’s legacy as a warrior queen, though!
These are all the fics I’ve written so far but I have some more in the works, including a coda to The Quantum Archangel (written so you don’t have to have read the book) and maybe something with Graham’s Companions Club. Or maybe another idea entirely will strike me and I’ll write something in one sitting.
