I often seen critiques of make up from an existential/philosophical perspective, but I rarely see criticism of cosmetics from a stand point of the very physical bodily harm it does. I think this is because the number of dangerous ingredients is so massive, and overlapping its an absolutely daunting task. So I've compiled the information I've found and bear with me its a lot. (This is from an American perspective. Sorry, thats what I know. However I would love it if people from other countries had things to add.)
First I want to get the "simple" stuff out of the way. I think almost everyone has heard about bacteria and fungi in makeup and that makeup causes acne from clogging pores. Makeup has a pretty strict shelf life, yet consumers are entirely supposed to self-police as Ive never seen a single expiration date on any cosmetic packaging. (I guess consumers are meant to pull this knowledge out of the ether or something. I only found out about it in a tumblr PSA. I did read that expirys are on products in Europe.) Beauty blenders are the worst offender because theyre almost always moist. When I was taught makeup I was told to wet my sponge so it would soak up less product. If you apply makeup daily your sponge is likely constantly damp. USA Today had an article which said that 96% of sponges had fungi and over 60% had E. Coli in them. But I think what people talk about less is the complication of problems from using other products in conjunction with dirty beauty blenders. USA Today warns its especially dangerous to use beauty blenders if you have damage to your skin like acne, cuts, or dry skin. However the most popular beauty products for washing your face contain walnut pieces for literally scrubbing your skin and creating microabrasions. If youre a frequent makeup user you probably know about the cyclical nature of applying foundation, breaking out, and then applying more foundation to cover the breakout. You may even be using scrubbing cleansers more frequently to combat the acne creating more tears. This can lead to "blood poisoning" and, though neither USA today or Forbes mentions this, blood poisoning (not a medical term btw. Its sepsis.) according to numerous medical sites has the potential to be extremely lethal. The symptoms are so similar to a regular flu its nearly impossible to self-diagnose.
The very first thing I was told when a friend handed me a jar of finishing powder- popular with many beauty gurus for the "baking" technique and considered a must have- was a joke about "clown lung." This was a reference to the main ingredient talc. Talc causes lung problems including cancer and respiratory illness. If anyone remembers the large Johnson and Johnson lawsuit from 2019 it was because theyd been putting talc into baby powder. Talc is dangerous because it's impossible to mine and seperate from ASBESTOS. Some high-end finishing powders will try to sell you on safe talc-free formulas but all the products I looked into contained mica instead which causes pneumoconiosis, colloquially known as "black lung disease." Like fucking coal miners get. Its not just present in finishing powder either. In my research it turned out that talc/asbestos are also present in many eyeshadows and other powder products. [Googleable, evidenced in J&J lawsuit]
Another industry to examine is nail salons. Toluene, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate, and Methacrylate compounds are all dangerous ingredients and present in various salon products. These ingredients cause a range of problems from dizziness, drowsiness, birth defects, slow fetal growth, future intellectual disabilities in the fetus, eye skin and throat irritation, coughing, allergic reactions, asthma-like attacks, short-term memory loss, nausea, dermatitis, cancer, and misscarriage. Some nail products advertise that they are 3-free meaning that toluene, formaldehyde, and DP should be absent but often the labels are found to be completely inaccurate. It should be noted that the risk is mainly to salon workers and not patrons but ask yourself if it is right to place other people at serious risk for your aesthetic. OSHA does make an attempt to mitigate these risks however not once in my years of makeup queen did I see a salon following these directives which include constant air monitoring, half mask respirators with chemical cartridges, gloves, long sleeves, and safety glasses. (And Im not even going to touch issues of human trafficking/slave labour out of nail salons one case of which occured 5 days ago two hours away from me) It should also be noted that formaldehyde can also be found in hair relaxers and hair dyes. [Found articles in Scientific American and NYT]
I also found on the FDAs website that many cosmetics include heavy metals like arsenic, mercury, and lead. (Usually accompainied by a picture of lipstick so I assume that is the product most likely to contain it, however campaign for safe cosmetics lists foundation as containing heavy metals, and The Guardian has an article about skin lighteners from Asia and Africa containing mercury.) The website stated that the amount of these heavy metals in cosmetics is "safe" if used as intended. (and I'm going to come back to the concept of "intended use" later because thats a can of worms too) However, when searching for info on heavy metal safety I found this quote in regards to metals in food:
"Certain metals, such as arsenic, lead and mercury, have no established health benefit, and have been shown to lead to illness, impairment, and in high doses, death. Understanding the risk that harmful metals pose in our food supply is complicated by the fact that no single food source accounts for most peopleâs exposure to metals in foods. Peopleâs exposure comes from many different foods containing these metals. Combining all of the foods we eat, even low levels of harmful metals from individual food sources, can sometimes add up to a level of concern"
So like, which is it? Is it a "safe amount" or is no amount of metal safe? I understand that in the case of certain foods like fish some amount of mercury poisoning is always expected but fish is also something you feed yourself and nourish your body with while cosmetics are completely unecessary to your survival. The mercury problem in fish is also mitigated by health warnings when mercury levels are particularly high but cosmetics have no such warning. Another warning on the site indicated that children should ingest NO amount of lead AT ALL because it is particularly harmful for kids yet theres no effort to stop children from using lead-containing cosmetics. I worked next to a Five Below where I was shocked to find they sold Jeffree Star and Anastasia eyeshadow dupes for five dollars which amounts to fucking pocket change for a lot of kids and kids do buy that stuff. I also think its ironic the FDA would have anything to say regarding cosmetics because in the very same article about heavy metals in cosmetics the FDA says that they DO NOT REGULATE cosmetics beyond the color additives.
Mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, and brow tint often contain carbon black. This is a color additive that is an incomplete combustion of carbon-based products. It can cause lung disease, cancer, and organ system toxicity, and eye, nose, throat irritation. The effects are mainly studied in rats and those at biggest risk are industrial workers but why do other workers have to endure lung problems for something so unecessary? [Easily googleable, NIH, CDC, WHO Europe]
This next bit I only want to mention briefly because I didnt find any particularly reputable sources about it, but its a claim that cropped up repeatedly and I think its an interesting one. Parabens, estrogen, phthalates (again), and pesticides in cosmetics are apparently linked to endocrine disorders and hormone dysregulation. Im not entirely sure what is meant by this accusation. Endocrine disorders include female diseases like PCOS and possibly endometriosis. None of these diseases is very well studied and the female endocrine system itself is not well studied either. Im not saying "cosmetics cause PCOS" because we dont know if PCOS or these other endocrine/hormonal disorders are genetic or environmental or both (it appears that PCOS is largely genetic and Endometriosis is likely autoimmune related) AND we dont appear to know for sure that cosmetic ingredients cause endocrine disorder. But I include anyway for a number of reasons:
If you happen to struggle with hormonal problems you may want to know cosmetics is a potential environment factor.
These conditions are incredibly painful. It will be a battle getting your doctor to even acknowledge that pain for diagnosis. PCOS is linked to diabetes, and heart disease. [Thanks @mother-of-pearl ] There is no cure and the treatments are often throwing hormonal birth control at it and hoping for the best.
I dont anticipate the link between cosmetics and endocrine disorders being studied any time soon or any endocrine disorders studied at all because the medical/scientific field is sexist. I dont want women to suffer in the mean time.
Now again, take this with a grain of salt because I couldnt find scientific or news sources for it. Dont fucking come for me. Im not gonna respond to you. [Most reputable source was a paper from the library of medicine at the national institutes of health but it was behind a paywall and I dont have 39 dollars to be right on tumblrdotcom]
Avoiding these ingredients is not as simple as scanning the label for them. As many beautubers and the community are no doubt aware considering multiple scandals over veganism. Products advertised as vegan or cruelty free but contain non-vegan carmine or are sold in China which legally requires the products to be animal tested. Cosmetic companies will hide ingredients claiming they are "trade secrets" or they will be placed under "fragrance." Many ingredients will be known by six or seven different names and asking consumers to be aware of seven different names for multiple ingredients requires consumers to be aware of innumerable different, often complicated ingredient names. I shouldnt have to point out that's a ridiculous burden to place on women. The EU banned 1,300 hazardous ingredients that the US did not. Cosmetic companies rely on women being unwilling/unable to bring in a list of 1,300 ingredients- with multiple names- every time they pop in to the drug store, sephora, or wherever. Buying "natural" products will not help you either. Theres no established criteria for natural/organic in costmetics, the FDA doesnt test these products, and "natural"=/= safe anyway. Plenty of plants and minerals are poisonous. One good example is traditional kohl products which advertise their natural status but also naturally contain lead and reiterating that natural powders contain mica. US courts are rarely on the side of consumers either. I found an interesting lawsuit against St. Ives for their apricot scrub taken to court for their "dermatologist tested" label despite it causing breakouts and cuts to the skin. The courts ruled that this label was fine because it only indicated that the product was TESTED not APPROVED by dermatologists. However I think any rational consumer would look at this label and assume the tests concluded it was safe for use or else why put the label on there?
[Googlable XMONDO drama, googlable laws wrt china and eu, already stated about FDA, FDA website about Kohl. Googled St. Ives lawsuit.]
I want to return to the idea of "intended use." This is sort of a fucky concept a lot of companies have ways of getting around. My "last straw" with makeup had to do with a run-in I had with Anastasia over their "Riviera" eyeshadow palette. In this pallette they had two colors that were the real feature of the palette, an electric neon purple and a radioactive pink I mean every photo, every promotion has these two colors swirled together around the eye. Because again, its an eyeshadow palette. When I buy the eyeshadow palette of course there's a little insert warning in the package that says these two shades are not intended on the eye area. In an eyeshadow palette. Contacting their customer service they told me that these two shades were meant to be used as a blush. neon purple blush. Not only that, but their website and instagram featured NO models wearing the shades as blush while EVERY model one or more of the shades as eyeshadow. When asked about this discrepancy ABH stopped responding. What I find egregious about this is the amount of people who dont know, and then more staggeringly; dont care. The sephora clerks didnt know, the in store abh representative didnt know, their customers didnt know, and when I told them they would respond with "oh, [brand] did the same thing with their [shade]." Sure enough, when I demanded that store clerks open the packaging to look for warnings nearly every product had an "eyeshadow" that was not intended for use on the eyes. Relegating dark, red-toned teal to "contour" and neon grean to "highlighter" US-based cosmetic junkies will say that these pigments have been approved for use by the EU however I found absolutely NO evidence of that. I googled it a thousand ways but all I ever found were blog posts, reddit comments, and one quote from an apparently nonEuropean layman in an Insider article. I even changed my location to France on ABH's website and the Norvina palette still contains the same warnings (not to harp on ABH in particular. I just know which shades in particular are the problem there). The Insider article noted that brands who were selling pressed pigments declined to comment. If the pressed pigments were EU friendly, I would think companies would be clamouring to say so. It also still makes their market as eyeshadow colors illegal in the US. (If any Europeans would like to chime in I'd love that.) Another problem I find with cosmetics companies and their reps is the claim that the worst thing that could happen is eye irritation for those with sensitive eyes and staining. How could they possibly know? The FDA doesnt test, or approve these cosmetics in the eye area, so ostensibly no one should be using it that way.
The next one is a bit of a "duh" but I'm going to talk about it anyway. Counterfeit cosmetics are a booming market full of untold dangers. Untold primarily because these products could contain literally anything. Ive read about glue, arsenic, lead, feces, staph, and horse urine to name a few. The labels and ingredient list on these products are fake. Legitimate brands often unintentionally play into the counterfeit market. They create artificial scarcity by making less of the product than is actually needed for consumer demand to create an even higher demand. If consumers miss out often their only chance at getting the product is to turn to counterfeits. I found examples of women who had their lips superglued, lips "turned to goo" and burned to blistering, throat closures, women with stys, contact dermatitis, eye infections. I think we as a society turn a blind eye to this problem because we think "hey, if youre buying counterfeits for a discount and you get hurt you deserve it." We imagine idiots buying products for 4 dollars from ebay or perusing Canal street for FEĐTY beauty. But these counterfeits can be really convincing. I myself received a gift of a huda palette that I only recognized something was weird about it because I'd swatched it at sephora about five times earlier that month. The person who bought it for me actually paid MORE than the usual cost for the palette because it was advertised as a newer, better edition. The websites can be disturbingly similar. For instance Kylie Jenner's legitimate website is KylieCosmetics.com but you can find fakes at kyliecosmeticsshop.co.uk. These fakes can buy ad space and be one of the first sites that populate when you google the products instead of typing the legitimate site into the address bar. Counterfeits can also be bought and sold through third parties on websites like ebay, wish, and amazon. (My gift actually came from Amazon.)

look i never thought when i first created a tumblr account back when i was like 13 that id ever reach the point where i would be sitting down to make a post on how a fictional character being a DomTop and indulging his partners noncon kink does /not/ somehow destroy his characterisation but here i am.
so the incense burner chapters... admittedly, i can understand why theyre not to everyones taste but ive seen some wild takes on how it "destroys lwjs characterisation and boils him down to a stereotypical top" and tbh i just wanna defend lwj.
as a disclaimer, i just wanna say that personally, i think porn is one of the hardest things to translate well. like porn is already so hard to write well in the first place, so having it go through a translator is always gonna change the quality. so i feel like we should all take that into account before we start the whole "mxtx cant write porn" shit, because maybe her porn slaps but we arent getting the full experience (if any chinese speakers out there who've read the incense burner chapters in chinese wanna correct me on that, feel free to do so).
okay so the first point i wanna hit is that wwx, in contrast to popular belief, had stated his interest in CNC before the incense burner chapters even happen (i would nearly say that him bringing it up might have influence lwjs subconscious in a way). in chapter 115, wwx has a clear fantasy of what he thinks rape play should be, and tries first to insinuate it with lwj. when lwj makes no interest in being the reciever here, wwx offers himself up to which lwj enthusiastically responds.
what this scene does is basically set up a roleplay scene between two consenting parties that they eventually follow through with. an almost foreshadowing of whats to come if you will.
then we have the first incense burner dream. here we see two different vision, wwxs domestic haven and then lwjs fantasy of him and wwx in the library. now, to be fair, lwjs dream is told in a lot of detail and if youre anyway uncomfortable with noncon at all, of course you would find this a very uncomfortable read. to wwx and lwj its just a fantasy, in the same way that when wx first had sex, wwx told him that he should have just forced himself on him in the first place. its clearly a concept wwx in particular thinks a lot about.
but my point here is that lan wangji fantasising about something like this doesnt destroy his character, for the direct narrative sequence it follows, it actually makes sense that he was fantasising about this. especially when so much of wangxians sex dynamic is wwx pushing and prodding at lwjs restraint until he snaps. its clearly a dynamic they both enjoy and eagerly participate in. anyone is perfectly within their right to not like these chapters, but it also probably means you dont like wangxians sex scenes in general considering nearly all of them hold a similar tone, just not as intensely as the ones in the incense burners.
in the second incense burner chapter with a young lan wangji and an older wei wuxian, you actually see wangxian doing the bare minimum of setting up a cnc scene. wwx teases a younger lwj, unsure if its his one of just a dream one like the pervious dream. he wakes up and finds out lwj was actually playing the role of his younger self. both of them with that knowledge enter the dream a second time and then we have the infamous bichen scene.
idk i just feel like people want to make these moments into something theyre not. personally i think wangxians bedroom dynamic fits them perfectly, gay men are allowed to like topping without it being some hidden hate crime. let wangxian do their cringey role play and be freaky. god bless.

before I ask my question, I just wanted to say thank you so so so much for keeping up your blog and consistently giving out information where its readily accessible!!!
maybe this will make me sound like an idiot but to preface, Iâm a mixed filipino american. My mom is filipino and some chinese and my dad is some sort of european and puerto rican. i was wondering, in your opinion, do you think itâd be okay for me (eventually) work with diwata and anitos? And how can I start? Ive been trying to communicate with my ancestors and Iâve been looking for books to one day buy (im extremely broke so your blog and any filipino witches i come across is all the info i can get) but i honestly have no clue where to start other than with my ancestors (weird dreams lately but nothing ancestor related i think). i took a DNA test as a gift and it pointed, predominantly, to the Western Visayas so im assuming i should study more on pre-colonial Bisayan culture (my lolas from iloilo so it makes sense i guess) but i also know that âblood quantumâ is a colonizer concept so i dont wanna rely on it too much :/ sorry to ramble but pls help lol
First, I'd like to say thank you for following the blog! It really does mean a lot to me to hear from others over the years on how much my blogs have helped them learn about our history and culture.
Now as for working with our diwata and the anito, that is completely ok. The whole blood quantum thing among some Filipinos I honestly don't agree with. As long as you have a family member who is Filipino, you are Filipino regardless of your "percentage" and of how you look. If you have Filipino blood in you, the ancestors are there with you. Even if you weren't raised within Filipino culture or a Filipino household because your parents never brought you up in it, or you are an adoptee like some I've met over the years. Your ancestors are your ancestors regardless. They see you and know you and that is all that matters.
Now there really isn't any book focused specifically on reviving our precolonial beliefs and practices. Yes, some did survive and some even blended in with a form of Folk Christianity in the Philippines. You can see many of the older practices and beliefs still alive, but they have been replaced with Catholic imagery and Saints.
But, in regards actually believing in and worshiping our old deities, doing rituals dedicated to the deity, or even some rites of passage like the Tagalog first menstruation rite of passage, or making carved figures dedicated to the diwata and anito, or performing maganito/paganito or atang to the diwata and anito, majority of Filipinos don't do this, or even know it.
So for being an Anito Reconstructionist, which is a label I personally use for my spiritual beliefs and others have adopted, there really isn't a book for it. A Reconstructionist in other ethnic spiritual paths, such as the Celtic, Roman, Aztec, Kemetic, Greek, Norse, etc., are those who look at historical records to try and piece together what was once practiced and believed in prior to Christianity. Over many years, these different spiritual paths have eventually come together, formed a community, and have resources like books and teachers. They have had the time to do all the research and put together a more formal spirituality based on those Pre-Christian beliefs and bringing it to the modern day where they have hundreds to thousands of people who have gone back to those beliefs. With some, they have even created temples, shrines to their deities, and even have celebrations.
Unfortunately that is not the case for us. However, due to the growing interest in our precolonial beliefs and practices over the years, I can see Anito Reconstructionism growing within the next several years. It already has, with many people actually trying to learn more about these beliefs and our old deities. The amount of people of people I've seen and talked to who have expressed their interest to reclaim these precolonial beliefs and practices is nothing compared to 10 years ago when it was hard to even find one or two people who did.
It is why I've been writing this book for a few years now dedicated to helping others in wanting to reclaim our precolonial beliefs and practices as a starting point in their research. For now though, I always recommend those who are starting to simply just read the historical texts. Grab a notebook and write down notes. Organize your notes into deities, rituals, how to make an offering, any prayers to a specific deity, how to set up an altar, etc.
Seeing as your family is from the island of Panay in the Western Bisayas, like my moms side are from, I would start with looking at the Bisayan precolonial beliefs and practices. A really good reference is reading Francisco Alcina's History of the Bisayans (1668). Volume 3 is available online in English which you can find here. Volume 3 goes into a lot of detail in the beliefs and practices. The Boxer Codex, if you are able to get a copy of the English translation, is also really good reading material.
Getting Started:
In terms of getting started, keep in mind that there is no one monolithic belief system or practice in the Philippines. Before there ever was a Philippines, we were different nations with different beliefs and practices. It is important to know your ethnic groups beliefs and practices and know their history. For example, I am Bisaya (Akeanon specifically) and Tagalog and that is what I work with. Others who I know follow the Bikolano, Kapampangan, or Ilokano beliefs. Though there are some similarities, each ethnic group had their own set beliefs and practices.
I often tell people that you can't just mix and match between them. For example, though I work with both the Tagalog and Bisayan pantheons, I wouldn't dare do a ritual offering to both a Tagalog or Bisayan deity at the same time. It's always separate. You also can't combine 2 similar deities together from different ethnic groups just because they share similar attributes. It's just rude and disrespectful.
Start out small. Set up an altar dedicated to your ancestors. If you have any family members who have passed, put a photo of them on the altar. Leave offerings of rice cakes such as suman, food like chicken adobo, or even a cup of drink such as tuba, lambanog, or even Red Horse beer. But if you can't get access to an alcoholic drink either because one you are a minor or 2 it's not available where you live, you can simply replace it with a non-alcoholic drinks like coconut juice. Get a coconut shell or a seashell to either place these offerings as bowls/plates or even use them to put your kamangyan or incense.
Then start researching how our Bisayan ancestors worshiped and practiced. Study the history and read historical accounts, books, and articles about them. Write down what you have learned on these precolonial beliefs and practices and reconstruct or revive them. This is what Polytheistic Recinstructionists do. I have listed links to these texts here.
Ask questions to your family, particularly your elders. See if they know of anything or if they can share some traditional practices and beliefs they know of have heard of. You would be surprised how, despite some families being really religious, many still believe in the spirits, do some form of ancestor veneration, believe in omens that are being told to you by the ancestors or spirits, etc.
If you can, try to go back to the Philippines and see your family's ancestral home, see where they grew up, etc. Ask about family stories and folk stories. For example, my mom grew up in Aklan and has always told me stories of the aswang and certain omens. She also constantly talks about the mischievous "little people" who play tricks on you (for example putting something down like your keys and then it goes missing, until you find it again somewhere else). In the Western Bisayas, they are known as kama-kama. There is also a story of how her grandmother's cat visited her during her wake. The cat was missing for years, but it came back and stayed sleeping on top of the casket for days before it left. My mom told me that it was the cat paying their respects to her grandmother.
Keep in mind also and acknowledge our indigenous communities who have kept their beliefs and practices. Don't try to take them into your own. I have seen people cherry pick things from the Manobo of Mindanao or the Kalinga in the Cordillera, which is just disrespectful. Many of the IP, though some still have kept their beliefs, it isn't the most important aspect to them. What they are most concerned about are other issues such as losing their homes due to occupation by oil or logging companies, other settlers such as the Tagalog and Bisayans (especially in Mindanao), getting targeted as "rebels" by the Philippine military and often getting killed. But, by cherry picking beliefs especially of the IP groups, it's just disrespectful.
I will be teaching classes on Anito Reconstructionism soon and will have my first class possibly at the end of the month or next month. I decided to do these classes seeing as there is a growing community who are interested, but don't know where to start. I'll be doing a proper announcement on these classes real soon so look out for the announcement and hopefully you will be able to join!

Guilty Pleasure
Summary: Â Peter and Beck used to be a power couple in the porn industry, but after Beck dumps him, Peter is forced to start over. With no money, no family and nowhere to go, he doesnât have much choice other than to keep doing porn, so he joins Just4Fans to get back on his feet and then one day he gets a very generous tip from someone under the username of YKWIM.Â
All the warnings listed on Part I apply.

-x-
Almost two months after moving out of Beckâs place, Peter was able to rent an apartment in the same building as Ned and MJ. It was tiny, of course, but pretty inexpensive, compared to other options he found around that area. Besides, with the money he made with Just4Fans over those few weeks, he would be able to afford it comfortably for at least a few months â largely thanks to YKWIM. He still planned on saving up as much as possible, so he put a lot of effort into making his account grow and it was working â by the end of April, he was up to five hundred subscribers.
He didnât check to see what Beck was doing, he was too afraid to look and see him with his new boyfriend, but he got lots of comments from his old fans, who still followed Beck, telling him that the new boy had nothing on him. Again, he didnât dare to check, but the ego boost was nice, even if he didnât really believe them. Also, he was down to crying once every two days instead of every other day, so he was counting that as a win as well.
His apartment was still pretty empty, specially because he spent most of his time downstairs at his friendsâ place, but he decorated the bathroom and his room to the best of his ability, since they would be the background of pretty much all his videos and pictures. He also bought some new lingerie sets, a few costumes and sex toys he wasnât even sure how to use, but he was slowly figuring them out.
Aside from decorating his room and the bathroom, he also bought an armchair and placed it by the  window with a couple of pillows. It was a nice spot to spend the afternoon reading or working on his computer. The light in that apartment was great, sunlight streamed right into his living room and warmed it up nicely. As they approached the end of April, the weather was getting better everyday.
Some days, he felt happy. He felt okay with the fact that he was still doing porn and that it wasnât a terrible crime. Sure, it wasnât what he had planned to do with his life, but he was young, he would eventually figure things out. For the time being, he needed that gig and he couldnât beat himself up for it. Also, it wasnât so bad now that he was only doing solo stuff.
Some other days, though, were just â hard. He remembered all the videos that were still online and he felt awful for the sole reason that they existed. Not so much for the ones he filmed with Beck, he was somewhat okay with those, the guy was his boyfriend after all, they had sex anyway, the only difference was the camera in the room. But the other onesâŠ
When he started filming with other men, it quickly turned into an unpleasant experience for him. He hated every second of it and always ended up feeling guilty, used and disposable at the end of the day. Beck didnât make it any better with the way he looked at him afterwards as he told him to get in the shower.
He wasnât entirely sure of the reasons why those videos bothered him so much, sometimes it felt like it wasnât even him in them. It was like he was watching a different person, he looked at himself and felt completely dissociated from that boy â at the same time, he looked at him and he knew â he knew â exactly what he was feeling when those were shot.
But that was a lot to unpack and he just wasnât ready for that particular crisis. Â
So in short, sometimes he was still a little unsure about how long he would be able to keep his Just4Fans account, because even though most days he didnât feel too weird about it, sometimes it reminded him of things he preferred to forget. But that was fine, he was usually able to work around that. Also, most of his subscribers were great and didnât make him feel like a cheap whore, so he had that going for him as well.
YKWIM was one of the good ones. They chatted almost daily, and Peter always sent him exclusive pictures and videos just because. He never posted those pictures on his feed once he sent them to him, it was their little secret. In return, he got his own collection of short videos of YKWIM finishing himself off. He didnât know much about the person behind the videos, heâd taken to calling him daddy because most of his subscribers seemed to like it and YKWIM never complained, so it stuck.
Peter did know he lived in New York â which made him shiver â and that he was a businessman of some kind, but he also always talked about a workshop, so Peter wasnât sure and he avoided asking personal questions. He worked most of the day and into the night, they usually talked when it was late, always around two in the morning.
He traveled a lot, too, and sometimes sent Peter small clips of his hotel rooms or the view from his balcony. In return, Peter sent him pictures of his messy bedroom and the horrible view from his window as a joke. It was nice talking to him, he always made Peter laugh â and then it often ended with a very satisfying orgasm that put him right to sleep, which was awesome.
Peter estimated YKWIM was older than Beck, but not by too much. He clearly had a fit body, which at first led him to believe he was in his thirties, at most; but he noticed YKWIM sometimes talked about the 80âs like he lived them, so he had to be at least in his forties, but Peter couldnât be sure. He really wished he would show his face, though, it would be nice to have one to fantasize about. But then again, maybe it would ruin the whole thing.
One afternoon, after Peter spent hours taking pictures, shooting videos and editing them so he could post them over the following week, he got a message from YKWIM. He hurried to check it and was shocked to see that he had sent him yet another tip â forty thousand dollars this time.
âFor you to buy pretty things so you can show them off to me.â Said the message that came with the money.
Peter almost dropped his phone when he saw it. It had been only five weeks since his last insane tip, so that made fifty thousand dollars in just a little over a month. For, like, thirty nudes. Who even was that guy?
âWow, daddy, thatâs way too much!â He added a flushed face emoji, for lack of something better to say. He was honestly feeling a little overwhelmed, even if the guy had millions to spend, there was no way just giving someone that amount of money was normal.
âThatâs not nearly enough for what youâve given me, baby.â Peterâs cheeks burned.
âIâm very flattered, but please, I really donât think I deserve all this.â He was pretty sure he sounded pathetic, but that was how he felt, so. Yeah.
âOh, but you do. Trust me, you really, really do. Youâre worth every penny.â Peter bit his lower lip, a little unsure and still a little shocked.
âAt least tell me what youâd like to see from me, please. Do you have any kinks that youâd like me to perform? Donât be shy.â He asked, even though it always made him nervous to offer that kind of thing. Sometimes people were just waiting for the perfect opportunity to make the weirdest requests.
But, to be fair, he had been talking to YKWIM for over a month, so he somewhat trusted him not to ask for anything too absurd. Â And then again, the guy had just paid him forty thousand dollars.
âWell, if you insist...â Here it comes, Peter thought, bracing himself. âRed and gold are my favorite colors. Iâd love to see you wearing them.â Oh. Not what he was expecting at all.
âDone! Anything else? Come on, thereâs gotta be something else.â Again, risky move. But again, forty thousand dollars.
âIâd love to hear you. Youâre always so quiet in your videos. If you feel comfortable, Iâd love to hear you call my name.â The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end at that request. It sounded⊠almost sweet? It obviously wasnât meant like that, it was completely sexual, but out of all the wild things he could have asked for, he wanted to hear Peter call his name.
âWhatâs your name, daddy?â
âTony.â Tony. Peter tested the word out on his tongue, saying it out loud once, twice. Tony. It suited the image he had created in his head. Tony.
âI can definitely do that, Tony. Anything else?â
âBuy yourself something pretty and send me a picture wearing it. Nothing sexual. Something youâd wear to a date with me.â Peterâs breath hitched. He supposed it was probably just a weird, rich people kink or something, but his mind went wild anyway. Very, very wild.
âI donât know what Iâd wear to a date with you, daddy. Any advice?â
âI like expensive and beautiful things such as yourself, baby.â
Normally, Peter wouldnât appreciate being called expensive, like he was a thing to be bought, but he felt weirdly flattered by the answer. He promised YKW â Tony â he would send everything he requested over the next few days, and he was actually excited about the whole thing. And of course he knew that feeling was trouble, there were warning signs flashing like crazy before his eyes, but he ignored them and convinced himself that he was just having fun and he was allowed to have fun if he was going to keep doing porn. He didnât have to feel miserable and guilty all the fucking time. He could â and should! â take some pleasure from it. He deserved it.
So the following day he asked MJ to go shopping with him, but he still didnât tell her the whole story, he just said it was for his Just4Fans and she readily agreed to go. They went to Victoriaâs Secret and Peter told her what he had in mind.
âSo, howâs the job going? Youâre doing okay? Not too overwhelmed?â She asked coolly as they searched through the panties section.
âYeah, itâs fine, itâs different when Iâm in control, you know? Like, I know my limits and I donât need to count on other people to respect them. Well, most of the time. So itâs cool.â
Some subscribers were a little pushy sometimes, asking for things Peter wasnât willing to do and then getting really aggressive after being told no. But it didnât affect him as much as it did when Beck ignored his boundaries, because those pushy subscribers could be easily blocked, whereas with Beck, well. It was a different story.
âDonât ever feel like you need to push your limits, okay?â Michelle stopped what she was doing to grab him by the shoulders and force him to look at her. âIf you ever feel like stopping, for whatever reason, just do it. No matter what, youâll always have me and Ned, understand? Weâre family, weâre here for you, weâd never leave you alone. If you want to stop, weâll figure something out together, you hear me?â The way she looked into his eyes made him understand that she really meant every single word of it.
Family. He had a family with them.
Peter felt silly tearing up in the middle of Victoriaâs Secret, so he pulled her into his arms and hid his face in her neck.
âThank you. I needed to hear that,â he muttered, as she squeezed him a little tighter, before pushing him away.
âYeah, yeah, donât get all teary-eyed on me, come on, youâll ruin my reputation.â She looked around, sniffing, then stuck her hands in her pockets. Peter laughed halfheartedly, drying the corner of his eyes. âCâmon, there are panties to be bought.â
They spent a couple of hours searching the store, but in the end he found the perfect set. He bought some other pieces, too, for his feed, people had been asking for lingerie a lot lately, after a slightly weird phase of cat ears and tails. Once they left Victoriaâs Secret, Peter was nervous because he had to tell MJ at least part of the truth to get her help with the second part of Tonyâs request.
âSo, listen,â he started and she turned to him, happily sipping her large coffee as they walked down the street. âI have this subscriber. Heâs, like, a rich, old dude who always sends me tips and stuff. Anyway, he gave me some money and asked me to buy something nice and pose for him, but like, not in a sexual way. He wants to see me clothed.â She frowned, staring at him suspiciously. âUm. I was wondering if you could help me with that?â
She was silent for a few seconds, just looking at him with narrowed eyes. He looked away discreetly, trying to avoid her mind-reading skills.
âShould I be worried?â She asked, finally. He shook his head and chuckled nervously, waving a hand dismissively.
âHeâs harmless, just some lonely, old dude. So, will you help?â He looked at her expectantly. She was still frowning and definitely knew something was up, but she nodded anyway, to Peterâs relief.
âWhat do you have in mind?â MJ asked and resumed her stroll down the street, Peter had to jog a little to keep up.
âSomething expensive and beautiful,â He quoted Tony, like an idiot, because he honestly had no idea what that meant.
âThatâs oddly specific and somehow not helpful at all.â She lifted an eyebrow and looked around the busy street. âHow expensive are we talking about?â
âIâm not sure. Very?â He answered nervously, and, yet again, she looked looked like she wanted to rip the truth out of him, but she also knew that was not the way to go with him. Â
âHow much did this guy give you?â
âUm. for â five thousand dollars.â He stuttered. He couldnât bring himself to tell her the actual amount, because it sounded absolutely insane and she would worry unnecessarily.
âHoly shit!? Fuck, why arenât I doing porn?!â She screeched and Peter hurried to put his hands over her mouth, because at least three people turned around to look at them.
âDonât even joke about that, you hear me? You have a bright future ahead of you, donât fuck it up,â he told her seriously and she looked like she wanted to argue just for the sake of being annoying, but something in the way he looked at her must have made her realize he meant it.
âChill, Iâm joking.â She patted his shoulder and looked away. âSo. Five thousand dollars? We can work with that.â
He was a little scared of the weird gleam in her eyes, but followed her anyway.
They spent the rest of the afternoon shopping, it was a lot of fun and he even got her a pair of shoes she kept staring longingly at. She was worried they would go over the budget because she wanted him to save some of the money, but he assured her he could afford it. They managed to put together a great outfit that he was very confident about and then called Ned to meet them for dinner in the evening.
Later, they took the subway home and, for a while, he felt like a normal 20-year-old guy â happy, weightless and just a little heartbroken, like everyone was bound to be at some point in life. He was going to be okay, he realized. That thought hit him like a punch in the face and it felt fucking awesome.
He rested his head on Nedâs shoulder with a sigh of relief, feeling the warmth of MJâs hand on his thigh.
It was around midnight when he got home, which for him was still a little early, he had developed the terrible habit of going to bed well after two in the morning â he blamed Tony, but to be fair, many of his subscribers were mostly active around that time as well. He debated whether or not he should start working on Tonyâs requests, he was a little tired from a long day of walking around carrying bags, but also surprisingly eager to show the older man what he got for him.
He took the Victoriaâs Secret bag and displayed the new outfit on the bed. It was a simple, but beautiful lingerie set. What Peter loved most about it was the fabric â it was made of deep red satin, smooth and glossy, and it felt simply amazing on the skin.
He decided to try it on, just to make sure it fit properly.
The top was a delicate bralette, two little triangles only big enough to hide his nipples and a little bit of his pecs. It was the perfect size for him, it sat flush with his skin, no unflattering cup gaps. The panties were tiny, Peter wasnât too sure about those back in the store, he was worried not everything would fit in it. It did, but just barely, but it actually worked in his favor, in his humble opinion. Lastly, he put on the garter belt, which was just a thin piece of fabric that went around his waist, with two straps that hung down to clasp onto two elastic bands that went around his thighs.
Since Tony said red and gold, he also put on a thick, golden choker, just to see how it would look.
Once he was dressed, he went to check in the mirror. He bit his lower lip, running his hand over the fabric that covered his chest. It felt really smooth, and the way it brushed against his nipples sent shivers down his spine. He closed his eyes and imagined it was Tonyâs hands on his body. They looked strong enough to hurt, but he imagined they would be gentle with him, as they traced a path from his collarbone to his neck, to wrap themselves around his throat â but not tight enough to choke him, just a promise.
He sighed, as if to check that he could still breath under the pressure, and slowly slid his hands down from his neck, brushing his hard nipples on their way down to the front of the panties â God, it was so smooth...
For some reason, he imagined Tony would be a gentle lover. Maybe it was the way he talked to him, always so charming, all sweetheart and baby, all praise and compliments. Maybe it was the way he never demanded anything, only asked nicely, all please and thank you. Â
Tony wouldnât ruin him, like he promised so many times in those last few weeks, he would fuck him long and slow, raspy voice whispering sweet praise in his ear, rough hands holding him down, hips snapping with each unrelenting thrust.
He bit his lips, knees buckling as he felt the front of the panties getting wet, while his leaking cock struggled to get free.
Well, then.
He grabbed his camera from the closet and positioned it on a tripod in front of the bed, just a few feet away, and programmed it to take pictures every five seconds. He sat on the bed, facing the camera, feet still on the floor, and just closed his eyes for a minute, letting a sigh escape his lips as the fantasy from before filled his mind again.
He spread his legs and his fingers reached down to the front of his panties again. His cock felt impossibly hard, straining against the delicate fabric, dark pink tip peeking out of over the top of the tiny underwear. He touched himself slowly, hips rocking lightly to match the pace of his own hand, as he listened to the clicks of the pictures being taken.
He had to force himself to stop, before he lost control, and moved to kneel on the bed, with his side facing the camera, and lowered his chest until it was touching the mattress, letting his back curve in a sinful arch, head turned to the side, staring right at the lens. At Tony. Imagining what he would do if he were there.
He sat back on his heels and turned his back to the camera, spreading his knees, each of his hands grabbing one ass cheek, pulling them apart, only a thin, barely there strip of fabric hiding his nakedness. He looked over his shoulder and waited for the camera to take at least a couple of pictures.
Next, he laid on his back, side facing the camera again, left hand rubbing one nipple over the silky fabric, as the right one reached down the front of the panties, to finally give himself some sort of relief. He let out an almost pained moan as he wrapped a hand around his cock, pumping it slowly, once, twice, but all that teasing was driving him a little insane.
He knew he should probably take a few more pictures, but he also knew wouldnât last much longer.
He got off the bed and went to the dresser where he kept all of his âwork stuffâ. He grabbed a tube of lube and a vibrator that was neither too small, nor too big, it was a size Peter was comfortable with.
He switched the camera to video mode, pressed record and resumed his position on the bed, knees on the bed, holding his lower body up, and chest resting on the mattress. He squeezed a generous amount of lube onto his fingers, pushed the panties a little to the side and circled his hole gently, slowly, because that was how he imagined Tony would do it. Those big, rough hands would have grabbed him by the hips, put him in that exact position, before teasing him mercilessly.
He moaned quietly and closed his eyes, rubbing slow circles around his rim, pressing a little against his entrance, but not hard enough to breach it. He felt his cock pulsing, begging for attention, but he didnât dare to touch it, not yet.
âTony, please...â He whined, pushing his hips back against his own hand, he was so lost in his fantasy he almost forgot he didnât need to beg. Almost. âI need you...â
Gently, he started pushing one finger inside, knuckle by knuckle, he was so aroused he barely felt the burn, just delicious pressure that made his eyes roll to the back of his head. He started fucking himself on his finger, feeling the muscles around it slowly make way.
ââBeen thinking about you, TonyâŠâ he rasped out, hips pushing back against his hand. âCanât stop thinking âbout you...â When he felt loose enough, he pushed another finger inside, the stretch becoming a little more noticeable as he slowly scissored himself open. He got on all fours and turned his back to the camera to give Tony a better view, all spread out for him, and kept fucking himself, picking up the pace once just those two fingers werenât enough. âFuck, daddy, need you so bad...â
He eased the fingers out of himself, sighing at the loss, and reached for the vibrator that was sitting on the bed and turned to face the camera again. He knelt on the bed and, with one hand, he propped the vibrator up on the mattress, holding it down from behind him, as with the other hand he guided its tip to his already abused hole.
He flicked the switch and it vibrated to life, nudging against his hole before finally slipping in. Peterâs breath hitched at the intrusion, feeling the delicious burn on his lower back, as he moved his hips up and down slowly, trying to push more of it inside with each painful thrust.
âFuck me, Tony,â he begged, as his free hand finally reached for his neglected cock, pumping it hard and fast, matching the maddening pace his hips set. He lost all sense of rhythm when he felt the tip of the vibrator finally â finally â reach his prostate and he pushed it even further in, until the pressure against the bundle of nerves became too much and he exploded in one of the best orgasms he had had in a long, long time. âOh, f-fuck!â His vision went dark for a second as he let himself fall back on the bed, wasted.
He spent almost ten minutes just lying there, trying to catch his breath and regain consciousness. He couldnât remember the last time he felt like that, he was boneless, floaty, completely satisfied. It was honestly the best he felt in months.
When his legs stopped shaking, he got up and headed straight to the shower, still feeling a little dizzy and weak, but he wasnât complaining.
Once he was finished, he debated whether he should just go to bed or send Tony what he had, but with the way he was feeling, he knew he wouldnât be able to fall asleep so easily. So decided to send at least the pictures right away, even though it was nearing 3AM. Peter knew Tony was probably up, the man did say that he was an insomniac and that he sometimes went days without any real sleep, so it wasnât a surprise when he answered just a few minutes after Peter sent them.
âHoly fuck, Peter!!â Peter bit his lower lip, burying his face in the pillow to hide his blush, even though he was alone in his room.âWhat the fuck, baby, itâs three in the morning, are you trying to fucking kill me?!â
âSo you like them?â He asked with feigned innocence.
âI fucking love them, you little tease, these are hands down my favorites yet. I swear Iâm gonna have them framed and hung in my workshop and Iâll spend the rest of my fucking days just writing odes to you.â Peter giggled into the pillow, turning on his side to get more comfortable on the bed.
âI bet you say that to all the boys.â He joked lightly, blushing again, which was stupid, but he couldnât help it.
âFuck no! Youâre something else, kitten, and you donât even know it.â Peter suppressed a smile, biting his lower lip.
âAre you touching yourself right now, daddy?â
âTo be honest, Iâm so fucking hard I think Iâm gonna come instantly if I even brush my fingers on my cock. Iâm literally just staring at the pictures right now and worrying Iâm gonna come untouched just from that.â Peter laid on his stomach and bit the pillow, gently rocking his hips against the bed.
âThatâs so hot. Can I see it?â
Seconds later, there was a video in the chat. He played it immediately and, sure enough, Tony wasnât kidding. His cock was rock hard, throbbing, the head was an angry purple, already glistening with pre-cum. Tony was just holding it at the base, not daring to touch it, and the whole thing almost made Peter hard again, but he was really exhausted.
âFuck, daddy, I really wish I could help you with that.â
âOh, you donât even know what I wish.â
Tony didnât say anything for a few minutes and Peter figured he had gone to sleep, but then his phone beeped, alerting him to another message from him. It was, of course, a picture of Tonyâs spent cock, resting against his belly, which was covered in come, so much of it Peterâs mouth watered.
âWas it good, daddy?â
âThe best, sweetheart. Thank you. Iâm gonna sleep like a baby today.â Peter chuckled. Tony always said that was high praise coming from someone who hardly ever slept and the younger man took his word for it.
âGoodnight, Tony. Talk to you tomorrow?â
âLooking forward to it, Pete.â
He knew he was fucked the second he tried to suppress a small smile, but couldnât.

   - ÍÌ NOW INTRODUCING:  IVES â IVY â SERRANO !
( DANNA PAOLA, CISFEMALE, SHE/HER, SCORPIO, 24 ) I just spotted IVES âIVYâ SERRANO at the beach today. Donât you know them? They live down by the TOWERS and usually hang out with the RICH KIDS & MUSICIANS cliques. From what Iâve heard, they can be DECEITFUL, but theyâre also ADAPTIVE. I always think of them when i hear LAST LAUGH - FLETCHER and tend to associate them with STRAWBERRY CHAMPAGNE, A FRESH SET OF STILETTO NAILS, AND RED LINGERIE. ( tay, she/her, 22, est )
full name: natalie rose serrano ives serrano nicknames: ivy, poison ivy faceclaim: danna paola voiceclaim: lana del rey birthday: november 1st, 1996 zodiac: scorpio sun, aries moon, gemini rising sexuality: bisexual occupation: influencer, instagram model, musician, scammer / thief positive traits: effervescent, bold, creative, charismatic, coquettish, intuitive, ambitious, alluring, adventurous, perceptive negative traits: cantankerous, deceitful, envious, manipulative, dramatic, stubborn, narcissistic, materialistic, reckless, quick-tempered character inspos: maddy perez euphoria, jackie burkhart that 70âs show, blair waldorf gossip girl, margo hanson the magicians, every lana del rey song ever, lucrecia montesinos and cayetana pando elite, rosa diaz brooklyn nine nine, the entire rose family schitts creek, jen harding dead to me
- ÍÌ⥠â âș background !
the main thing u need to know about ivy is that she is lying ! always !! her real name isnât even actually ivy smh
she was born NATALIE ROSE SERRANO, to two working class parents in new york city. she knew from a young age that she was just supposed to be rich and famous, and that something had gotten mixed up somewhere and she was put in the wrong life.
in high school she got a scholarship to a fancy private catholic school, and thatâs where she started to hone her craft of manipulating rich people. she would befriend all of the richest bitches at school and take advantage of everything that came along with it: vacations to far away places, stays in the familyâs cabins and lake houses, even designer clothes that her friends no longer wanted and would gift to her, thinking it was their idea all along
as she grew up and got better at getting what she wanted out of people, her entitled attitude only got worse, driving a wedge between her and her parents, who kept waiting for her to develop a work ethic and kept being disappointed. a few months after she graduated high school, on her 18th birthday, her parents kicked her out of the house and cut her off, hoping that it would force her to grow up and take on any responsibility
but that plan backfired for them, her parents underestimating how truly stubborn natalie was. the day after her 18th, she wandered into a local strip club and got a job, figuring itâd be the easiest and quickest way to get some cash, and she took to it naturally and actually really enjoyed stripping
she started to embody an entirely new persona that she had created for herself, dancing under the name POISON IVY and telling everyone she was a trust fund baby that had been cut off from her rich parents, needing to dance to supplement her income, and her lies just continued to spiral out of control until she almost started to believe it herself. she had never told anyone at the club her real name, not even the other strippers, just going by âivyâ for a while.
she had learned to weaponize the power she had over people by being pretty and charming, using her looks for absolute evil and doing whatever it took to get moneyâfrom straight up pickpocketing, to making men buy her expensive gifts, to blackmailing, to sugar babying, to getting patrons wasted and manipulating them into tipping her absurd amounts⊠she did it all, very quickly earning enough to live the life she had always dreamed of, that she felt she deserved for whatever twisted reason.
she started posting on instagram with the name poison ivy generally just flaunting her carefree, extravagant life, often exaggerating or down right lying just to really dazzle her quickly growing audience
as she started to go down the influencer route, she realized she needed to do something to hide the skeletons in her closet ( the fact that she didnât actually come from money and was making far more than was normal for even the best of dancers, a couple of small possession / shoplifting charges, and just generally anything that could lead people to her real identity ) so she started to tell people her name was ives, fully taking on the new identity. she even went so far as to make some of the people that had been closest to her sign NDAs about her real identity, making sure that no one could sell info about her should her plan of being famous work out
she also moved out to california to run away from everyone in the city that was starting to catch on to what she was doing, basically doing all the same shit but now in a New Place.. this was about 3-4 years ago, so sheâs been in sunhollow for a while now doing the whole influencer thing !!
and it did work out !! at first she was definitely buying followers/likes to boost her likelihood of brand sponsorships, but eventually she faked it until she made it and actually attained influencer status. she then used her newfound internet fame ( and some classic blackmailing ) to get herself a record dealÂ
she also started sleeping around with pretty much any famous person she could, having very public relationships and breakups and scandals to keep her name in the press, which ultimately lead to more exposure/people following her, if only to see what she did next, which lead to even more sponsorships
eventually she stopped dancing and just focused on her influencing and more recently ( like... less than 6 months ago recently ) her music career. but she never stopped sugar babying and scamming rich stupid men, still very much using that as a means to keep up her lifestyle. sheâs also done a few modeling things, but itâs mostly just like catalog work or being the face of a trendy campaign bc sheâs way too short for the runway
she also recently made an only fans account bc she was bored one night and was mostly planning on posting once as a joke but then she made a bunch of money / got a bunch of subscribers and was like oh word ? i can do that ! so she will post on there from time to time but sheâs not like⊠super serious about it ya know ? also her music label is big mad at her for it bc theyâre like bUt yOuR rEpUtAtIoN and sheâs like yeah.. but my bank account ? also itâs no secret she used to be a stripper so she rly just.. doesnât give a fuck !Â
so basically sheâs jus here making money being pretty and pulling a long ass scam on⊠everyone
- ÍÌ⥠â âș personality / headcannons !
sheâs a real two faced bitch⊠she has perfected the art of becoming whoever she thinks other people want her to be, quickly adapting her personality to get whatever she wants
sheâs usually pretty friendly actually, really charming and outgoing and just trying to have a good time
she has a pretty short temper tho and holds grudges like you wouldnât believe, so once youâre on her bad side⊠good luck lol she is so ruthless
sheâs like⊠deeply, deeply selfish and will always put herself first, but sheâs so manipulative that she can make people do things that they think are their idea, but itâs really just something she planted in their head so itâs not always obvious
also very spoiled and will throw a mf fit if she doesnât get her way or u say no to her
always going out !! always doing the most !! sheâs the type to show up randomly at ur door at 8pm on a tuesday with a bottle of tequila and make u party with her whether u like it or not
sheâs a lot smarter than she lets on sometimes, like she knows people expect her to be stupid and ditzy and shallow and sheâll let them underestimate her when itâs beneficial
always looks perfectly put togetherâ her nails are always meticulously manicured, usually w stiletto shaped acrylics, and youâll literally never see her outside her house without makeup and a perfectly composed outfit. itâs also a rare occasion that sheâs not wearing at least six inch heels, trying to make up for bein so mf short ( sheâs 5â3 )
she talks A Lot but is really good at saying a lot of words without actually saying anything, like you can be best friends with her for months and then just be like âi donât actually know a single thing about herâ
always up to no good and sticking her nose where it doesnât belong !! sheâs always got some sort of scheme going or getting in to some kind of drama
v much a hoe and v much proud of it, will sleep w just about anyone especially if she can get something out of it
also a serial dater !! sheâs always hoping in and out of relationships and being rumored to be with a dozen people at once
most definitely calls paparazzi on herself, especially when sheâs around other famous ppl but will never admit it
compulsive liar, she will literally lie about the dumbest things like she doesnât even need a reason to lie she jus.. does
she has a luxury two bedroom apartment that she lives alone in ( one room is kinda a guest room but also mostly just a giant closet ) in the towers and the gag is she doesnât even know how much her rent is bc one of her random sugar daddies pays her rent.. her power tbhÂ
- ÍÌ⥠â âș wanted connections !
hookups / flings / one night stands / fwbs all that shit !!
exes on bad terms ⊠gimme drama pls
enemies / ppl sheâs stolen from maybe⊠she would definitely deny it and say theyâre jus jealous of her or smth stupid but that could make the feud worse
party pals !! like i said she goes out a lot and always somehow manages to make new friends and drag them into her shenanigans
on again / off again exes⊠i want the Angst so bad..
shallow friendships / influencer friends like they play it up a lot for insta bc they both have a pretty big following but they dont really... like each other that much ?? like they definitely seem to be a lot closer than they really are
pr relationships this could be past or present !! in the same vein as the last one except they pretend to date ( or maybe just act like theyâre gonna date but never actually do ?? like to fuel rumors )Â
unlikely friends !! like ppl who are nice and sweet and Pure, she could use a lil good energy in her life
situationship / flirtationship like theyâre super flirty and maybe hook up a couple times but everyone assumes theyâre dating or like gonna date but theyâre jus vibing. bonus points if one or both of them actually has feelings but canât tell if theyâre just friends / casually hooking up or if it could turn into something more.. im a slut for some mutual pining !!
neighbors ⊠mb they hate her for always being loud n throwing mini parties OR maybe they join in
mean girl rivalries !!
someone sheâs taking advantage of / stealing from without them knowing .. oof
partner in crime !!!
one sided crushes or like someone sheâs stringing along smh
sugar daddies mb đ
someone to put her in her mf place JDKDKD like they call her out on her bs and are like âi see what ur doing bitch stay away from my friendsâ type thing
idk anything really !! gimme all the messy plots ok :~)
#hqclique.intro#this is so long i jus have so much to say abt my favorite evil demon <3#now to do mickeys .. which requires sm more rewriting .... pray for me#⥠â đąđŻđČ đŹđđ«đ«đđ§đš âș đźđ¶đŽđȘđŻđšđŽ .

How To Improve Your Lousy Writing Skills In The Workplace FIRST HOPE MEDIA https://www.firsthope.biz If thereâs one important reason why you need to write effectively in the workplace, it is this: the quality of your writing imprints a lasting impression on the reader. This reader may be your boss, a client, or a person who is ready to make a billion dollar business deal with you. Have you ever read a poorly-written document that made you lose interest right away? It was so poorly-written that you lost trust in the author and asked yourself why the author was wasting your time? How about those junk e-mails that sneak into your junk box like annoying cockroaches? You know the ones Iâm referring to: the ones pitching vitamins, software, and sex aids. These e-mails are the biggest showcase of writing blunders, stricken to death with grammar mistakes, misspellings, and sloppy sentences. I doubt these e-mails pull a sale because their poor writing style immediately alienates the reader. What impression does your writing leave on your boss, clients, or co-workers? Does your writing alienate readers, cause you to lose sales or clients, or cost you job promotions? Or does your writing build streams of loyal readers, increase sales for the company, and help you earn six figures a year at your job? Whatever type of writing you do in the workplace, always know this reality: readers believe the quality of your writing reflects your skills, work ethics, and integrity as a person. If you write eloquently, clearly, and lively, the reader trusts you and you are able to build rapport quickly. If your writing is sloppy, disorganized, and riddled with errors, the reader assumes the rest of your work is flawed, your work ethics are flawed, and perhaps as a person you are flawed. Why should this reader waste his time reading the rest of your junk or even do business with you? This article provides fail-safe strategies to help refine your writing and help you to communicate with clarity, simplicity, and impact so you will never write junk again. You will learn five masterful steps to guide you in planning, writing, and refining an article; and you will learn how to avoid common writing mistakes. AIM! FIRE! FIRE! To become a superb writer, your first task is to establish your aim. Yiddish novelist, dramatist and essayist, Sholem Asch, once said, âWriting comes more easily if you have something to say.â What message do you want to convey with your writing? To establish your aim, ask yourself: 1) âWhy am I writing this document?â 2) âWhat do I want to communicate?â 3) âDo I want to inform, educate, report, persuade, challenge, or entertain?â Developing your aim will help you to adopt the best writing style for your reader. For example, an educational document will likely be more formal than one written for entertaining. CONNECT WITH YOUR READERS To write effectively, you need to connect strongly with your readers. Ask yourself: 1) âFor whom am I writing this? Will I be writing for colleagues, my supervisor, my team of employees, or our clients?â 2) âHow much information do my readers need?â 3) âHow familiar are my readers with the topic?â 4) âHow much time do my readers have? Would my readers prefer a short, succinct presentation of facts and statistics, or more narration and exposition?â Knowing your audience will allow you to write content in a way that appeals to your readers. SHAPE YOUR DOCUMENT You know your aim. You know the people who will likely read your document. Now plan your document. What information will it contain? What information will most likely grab the reader and hold their interests? What points do you need to get across? Start with a rough outline of ideas. Then go through the outline and add more information and more detail. An outline will create the structure for your document. Soon enough your writing will come more easily, quickly, and with greater clarity. WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW BEST At this stage, read over your outline and write the first draft. Establish the main idea of the document and support your argument throughout. If a blank white page glares back at you like headlights, just start writing on whatever topic you know best. According to American novelist Jack London, âYou canât wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.â Donât worry about the sequence if the ideas come to you out of order. You can cut and paste later. WORDY WEIGHT LOSS If you have time, step away from the document. Come back to it later with a fresh mind. Now add material where needed. Trim away unnecessary sections. Refine the text to communicate what you want to say. Remember: less is more. Try not to repeat ideas. Repetition, unless necessary, is tiresome for the reader. Keep the piece moving along. Use a lively pace. Progress through your points efficiently. The following sections address some of the most common writing problems. Use these tips to write more clearly, effectively, and lively. I.) PUNCTUATION a) Apostrophes Do not use an apostrophe in the possessive form of âit.â Incorrect: Our department submitted itâs reports for 2005 last week. Correct: Our department submitted its reports for 2005 last week. Do not use apostrophes in the possessive forms âhis,â âhers,â and âours.â Incorrect: The window office is herâs. Correct: The window office is hers. Do not use apostrophes in plural nouns. Incorrect: How many new computerâs are we getting? Correct: How many new computers are we getting? b) Commas Do not connect two complete sentences with a comma. Incorrect: The meeting was cancelled, I finished my work early. Correct: The meeting was cancelled, so I finished my work early. Correct: Since the meeting was cancelled, I finished my work early. II.) MECHANICS a) Split Infinitives Do not insert words between âtoâ and the infinitive form of a verb. Incorrect: I was told we needed to slightly tighten the deadline. Correct: I was told we needed to tighten the deadline slightly. III.) SPELLING a) âA lotâ is always two words. Incorrect: I have alot of work to do. Correct: I have a lot of work to do. b) âToâ is a function word often used before the infinitive form of a verb (to go). c) âTooâ is an adverb that means âexcessivelyâ (too difficult). d) âTwoâ denotes the number 2. Incorrect: This file cabinet is to heavy for me to move. Correct: This file cabinet is too heavy for me to move. e) âThereâ is an adverb indicating a place (over there). f) âTheirâ is a possessive word that shows ownership (their computers). g) âTheyâreâ is the contraction form of âthey are.â Incorrect: There results for this quarter were excellent. Correct: Their results for this quarter were excellent. Incorrect: Their working very hard today. Correct: Theyâre working very hard today. IV.) STYLE a) Sentence Variety To write more lively, vary sentence structure. Use alternate ways of beginning, and combine short sentences to create different sentence lengths. Before: I organized the files for all the new accounts this week. Then I created a more efficient labeling system. I color-coded everything. I made sure all paper files had been documented electronically. I put these files in the empty file cabinet. After: This week I organized the files for the new accounts and created a more efficient color-coded labeling system. After I documented all paper files electronically, I put these files in the empty file cabinet. V.) ACTIVE VOICE vs. PASSIVE VOICE The English language has two "voices": active voice (the subject performs an action); and passive voice (the subject is acted upon). In business communication, all good writers write in active voice. Lazy writers write in passive voice. Writing in active voice shortens your sentences and makes your writing sound more direct and formal. Examples: PASSIVE: The recipe book is read by her. ACTIVE: She reads the recipe book. PASSIVE: The radio announcement should be listened to by everyone. ACTIVE: Everyone should listen to the radio announcement. PASSIVE: The photo is being taken by the photographer. ACTIVE: The photographer is taking the photo. If you follow these guidelines, youâll stop yourself from writing lousy in the workplace. Your writing will be lively, clear, and concise, and you will build rapport with readers. Perhaps itâs now time to e-mail your boss a perfectly-written e-mail requesting a salary raise?

8th April >> Fr. Martinâs Gospel Reflections / Homilies on Luke 24:35-48 for Easter Thursday:Â âTheir joy was so great that they still could not believe itâ.
Easter Thursday
Gospel (Except USA)
Luke 24:35-48
It is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead
The disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised Jesus at the breaking of bread.
They were still talking about all this when Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, âPeace be with you!â In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, âWhy are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.â And as he said this he showed them his hands and feet. Their joy was so great that they still could not believe it, and they stood there dumbfounded; so he said to them, âHave you anything here to eat?â And they offered him a piece of grilled fish, which he took and ate before their eyes.
Then he told them, âThis is what I meant when I said, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms has to be fulfilled.â He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, âSo you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.â
Gospel (USA)
Luke 24:35â48
Thus it was written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.
The disciples of Jesus recounted what had taken place along the way, and how they had come to recognize him in the breaking of bread.
While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, âPeace be with you.â But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, âWhy are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.â And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, âHave you anything here to eat?â They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them.
He said to them, âThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.â Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said to them, âThus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.â

(i)Â Easter Thursday
There is a great deal of emotion in todayâs gospel reading. When the risen Lord stood among the disciples, they responded initially âin a state of alarm and frightâ. The Lord asked them, âWhy are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your hearts?â Alarm, fright, agitation and doubt were the disciplesâ initial response to the presence of the Lord. Eventually, all those emotions gave way to joy and wonderment, âTheir joy was so great that they still could not believe itâ. The disciplesâ initial response to the presence of the risen Lord was understandable. Whenever something happens to us that is beyond our normal human experience, we tend to register those same emotions of fright, agitation and doubt. The resurrection of the Lord from the dead was a phenomenon completely beyond the disciplesâ day to day horizon. It is an earth shattering event that breaks apart our routine expectations. We can understand the Lordâs death easier than his resurrection. Death is part of our normal human experience. In raising Jesus from the dead, God is giving us a glimpse of another world beyond this world, a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus did not return to his normal human life; he was raised to a new quality of life, a sharing in Godâs own life, a life which is utterly different to our earthly life. It is not surprising that, when Jesus appeared to his disciples in this new form of life, their initial response was one of fear and confusion. Yet, very quickly, these emotions gave way to joy. The fruit of an encounter with the risen Lord is not alarm or agitation but joy. If we open ourselves to the presence of the risen Lord, we too will experience great joy, a joy this world cannot give, a joy that is a foretaste of the joy of the kingdom of heaven.

(ii)Â Easter Thursday
The Stations of the Cross have been an important part of our Catholic tradition for many years. Recently, I came across the expression âThe Stations of Lightâ. These stations are the various appearances of the risen Lord to his disciples as recorded in the gospels. The whole of the Easter Season between now and Pentecost Sunday is an invitation to reflect on those Stations of Light. Todayâs gospel reading puts before us one of those Stations of Light, Lukeâs account of the appearance of the risen Lord to the disciples as a group. According to the beginning of that gospel reading, the two disciples who had met the Lord on the road to Emmaus and at table in Emmaus were sharing their story with the other disciples. It was while they were sharing their story that the risen Lord stood among them and declared, âPeace be with youâ. Luke is reminding us that whenever we share our faith stories the risen Lord is there in our midst. Sharing our faith with others creates an opening for the Lord to stand among us. In that gospel reading the disciples struggle to believe that the Lord was present to them. According to Luke, even after Jesus spoke to them, âtheir joy was so great that they still could not believe it and they stood there dumbfoundedâ. They presumed that the crucifixion of Jesus had brought to an end the story of their relationship with him.Yet, the presence of the risen Lord among them revealed that the Lord of love and life was stronger than the powers of hatred and death. The first Easter shattered all their expectations. Easter continues to shatter our expectations. The risen Lord continues to take us by surprise. He stands among us even when all hope seems lost; he touches us with his presence when we are least expecting it. When we are most aware of our failure to follow him, he speaks his word of peace to us, because even when we are faithless, he remains faithful. Easter announces that the story of our relationship with the Lord never ends, because his relationship with us never ends. He continues to stand among us, assuring us of his presence, offering us his gift of peace, and sending us out as his messengers of hope.

(iii) Easter Thursday
There are a lot of emotions attributed to the disciples in this morningâs gospel reading. When Jesus initially stood among them with his gift of peace, their response was one of alarm and fright, thinking they were seeing a ghost. Jesus then addresses them as people who are very agitated and full of doubt. When he showed them his hands and feet, joy became their dominant emotion. Indeed, the gospel reading says something unusual at this point, âtheir joy was so great that they still could not believe itâ. Fear had given way to joy and yet they still struggled to believe that Jesus was actually alive and standing among them. The gospel reading conveys a sense of how unexpected the event of Easter Sunday was for the disciples. The risen Jesus had to go to great lengths to convince them that he was alive, and alive in a new and more powerful way. There are times when we too can be tempted to think that the message of Easter is too good to be true. Yet, Easter is at the core of our faith. Without Easter, the Friday on which Jesus was crucified would never have come to be known as Good Friday. It was only in the light of Easter that Jesusâ death came to be understood not just as yet one more tragic execution of an innocent person but as a revelation of the God of love and life. This Easter Season we are invited to allow ourselves to savour something of the joy of those first disciples.

(iv) Easter Thursday
Lukeâs account of the appearance of the risen Lord to his disciples in todayâs gospel reading suggests that the disciples had great difficulty believing that it was the same Jesus they had come to know and love and had been crucified who was now standing before them. The gospel reading says that âin a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghostâ and that âtheir joy was so great that they still could not believe it, and they stood there dumbfoundedâ. It seems that it took the disciples a while to take in and believe the good news of Easter. They had been so traumatized by what had happened a few days earlier that they struggled to believe that Jesus was alive with a powerful new life. There is indeed something extraordinary about the good news of Easter. Even today we struggle to take it in, to really believe it. We often find it easier to identify with the death of Jesus than with his resurrection. In our religious tradition images of the crucifixion are more common than images of the resurrection. We can easily connect with the suffering Jesus because of the suffering in our own lives. Like the disciples in the gospel reading we stand before the good news of Easter dumbfounded, struggling to believe. Perhaps that is why the church gives us seven weeks of the Easter season to take it all in. We need time to recognize that the risen Lord is indeed standing among us, saying to us what he said to his disciples in the gospel reading, âPeace be with youâ. He offers us that peace of mind and heart which is the fruit of his love poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. As we allow ourselves to receive this gift of his reconciling love he sends us out as agents of reconciliation, as his peacemakers, just as he sent out the disciples in the gospel reading.

(v) Easter Thursday
Todayâs gospel reading is Lukeâs account of the first appearance of the risen Lord to the disciples as a group. His first words to the disciples after rising from the dead were, âPeace be with youâ. It is a greeting that has made its way into our celebration of the Eucharist. The risen Lord was offering his disciples the gift of his peace. He was making peace with those who had slept on the Mount of Olives when he had asked them to pray. He was making peace with Peter who had denied him publicly three times. He was taking the initiative to be reconciled with those who had failed him. Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, he was welcoming back into communion with himself those who had strayed. He went on to express his communion with his disciples by eating in their company. The resurrection proclaimed the faithfulness of Jesus to his flawed disciples. It was a moment of grace which the disciples struggled to receive. According to the gospel reading, they were agitated and full of doubt. They were dumbfounded. In a striking phrase, it is said of them that âtheir joy was so great they still could not believe itâ. The risen Lord continues to stand among us offering us his peace. Our many past failings do not make his presence any less powerful or his offer of peace any less generous. He comes among us to call us into a renewed communion with himself. As risen Lord he shows us the face of God as mercy. When we allow ourselves to receive the peace of God he is offering, then he will send us out, as he send out his first disciples, as his peacemakers, as messengers of Godâs love and mercy.

(vi) Easter Thursday
At the beginning of todayâs gospel reading, the two disciples who were joined by the risen Lord as they walked towards Emmaus tell their story to the larger group of disciples. They were telling the story of their journey from darkness to light and from despondency to hope. The physical journey to Emmaus from Jerusalem turned out to be a profound spiritual journey because of the way the risen Lord was present to them in the stranger who opened the Scriptures and who then broke bread with them at table. These two disciples had quite a story to tell and they couldnât keep it to themselves. We all have some story to tell about our own spiritual journey. It can be a great service to others to share with them something of our own personal faith journey. According to the gospel reading, while the two disciples were still telling their story, the risen Lord stood among them. It was as if their telling of their story created a space for the risen Lord to be present to all who were gathered. When we too share something of our spiritual journey, the risen Lord becomes present in a special way through us. When we share something of our Easter faith with others, the first Easter becomes real and tangible again. The presence of the risen Lord in the gospel reading brought the larger group of the disciples from agitation and doubt to joy, a joy so great that they could hardly believe the risen Lord was present. Whenever we create a space for the risen Lord to be present among us, through the telling of our story, the primary fruit of his presence will also be joy, a joy the world cannot give.

(vii) Easter Thursday
The risen Lordâs first words to his disciples in todayâs gospel reading were, âPeace be with youâ. It is a greeting that has made its way into our own celebration of the Eucharist. We sometimes think of peace of the absence of conflict. However, in the language of Jesus, the word translated âpeaceâ has a much richer meaning. The word âShalomâ which lies behind the word âpeaceâ in our gospel reading means fullness of life. The word suggests that full and rich life that the Lord desires for all of humanity, a life of loving communion with God and with others. It is the life of heaven and will only be experienced to the full beyond this earthly life, but through our relationship with the risen Lord, this fullness of life can begin to become a reality for us in the here and now. When the risen Lord said to his disciples, âPeace be with youâ, he was imparting to them a foretaste of the fullness of life which awaits us in eternity. In giving his disciples the gift of his peace, he was also calling on them to bring that peace into the world. We are familiar with the beatitude, âblessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of Godâ. The Lord needs us to share in his peace making work. He wants to work through us so that others may have life and have it to the full. This mission we receive from the Lord to be his peacemakers is all the more urgent today where so many people seem intent on bringing the opposite of flourishing life for people, as is evidenced by recent tragic events at home and abroad. As we wish each other the Lordâs peace at this Mass, we commit ourselves afresh to becoming the Lordâs peacemakers in our world.

NOTICE FROM THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE COORDINATION
AND PROJECTS OPERATION COMMAND OFFICE
There is nothing new to report regarding SPC-001 at this time.
Test subject displaying the results of his exposure to SPC-001.
Project #: SPC-001
Selachian PugnÄtorial Capabilities: Individuals enhanced with SPC-001 display a dramatic improvement in pugilistic prowess and have consistently proven capable of easily dispatching 90% of squaloid entities in simulations, even with no prior training. Furthermore, SPC-001 subjects have reported a radical elevation in coastal requiescence position retention, even when under assault from extragranular sedimentary weaponry.
Project Components: SPC-001 is a manmade chemical substance which augments the biological strength and dexterity of human beings. After initial exposure to SPC-001, subjects will undergo a steady increase in muscle mass over the following 72 hours, accompanied by heightened energy levels and adroit perception of their surroundings. Increased lung capacity and resistance to deep-sea hydrostatic pressure are common side effects.
Following the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION and the subsequent activation of the ALL HANDS ON DECK PROTOCOL, SPC agents embedded in the food industry began introducing discreet amounts of SPC-001 into numerous products intended for public consumption. Centre researchers have projected a full global saturation of SPC-001 to be achieved by the year ââââ. In the event that the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION ends before global saturation can be achieved, more aggressive means of SPC-001 dispersal may be undertaken to prevent a complete End-of-World K/O Failure Scenario.
Nascency Impetus: On May 16, ââââ, all observed selachian entities across the globe simultaneously demanifested, including those in SPC captivity. No selachian entities or evidence of the continued presence of selachian entities have been observed since. A Maximum State of Emergency was declared soon after by the Executive Pugilist Assembly and the phenomenon was codified as the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION. It is the belief of the Assembly that the selachians are congregating in preparation for the FINAL CONFLICT, an event foretold by Elder Pugilord Azmanititas in the Centre's original constitutional documents in 1451.
[08:23] DrTsega: Did you get all that?
[08:23] DrTsega: No? Okay, I'll break it down for you.
[08:26] DrTsega: I was part of a group known as the Selachian Punching Centre. An organization dedicated to fighting the menace that plagued our oceans. "We punch underwater so you can live on the land." That's what we used to say.
[08:27] DrTsega: I know what you're thinking.
[08:29] DrTsega: Yes. It was us keeping you safe the entire time. The Centre safeguarded mankind for centuries. Civilization as we knew it wouldn't have been possible if we weren't around. Our influence was unparalleled, extending to every level of every government, changing the course of world events, yet remaining a complete secret from everybody, which was really quite tricky.
Then, one day, the selachian menace disappeared. Our immediate reaction was one of disbelief, followed by euphoria, followed by raucous celebration. We danced. We drank ourselves stupid. We sang the songs of our forefathers. The orgies weren't officially sanctioned, of course, but boy howdy-doo were they tremendous.
Sadly, our revelry wasn't meant to last.
"DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION", the Assembly called it. The prophesied gathering of every selachian, big or small. Every sharp, slimy, putrid horror that haunted our dreams, coming together in one place to bring about the end of all other life on our beautiful, green planet.
"But fear not," said our trusted Assembly. They told us that the human race would fight back. They said that when the selachians returned with their armies and squaloid murder-drones, we would be ready.
And they were right. We were ready. Thanks to SPC-001, we managed to get the entire human race fighting fit. At first people were alarmed when everyone started getting super ripped for no apparent reason, but then they realized it was awesome and the panic died down. Within a few months, every man, woman, and child was a lean, mean, punching machine. Even babies had abs you could wash your clothes on. It seemed like everything was going fine.
And that's how it went for the first couple of years: fine. Sure, boxing had to be outlawed once folks could punch with the same Newtonian force as your average car crash, and there were a few riots now and then over tank top shortages, but for the most part everything felt normal.
Year three, people started getting antsy. We had kept ourselves busy at the Centre by devising new weapons for selachian warfare, but every innovation felt hollow with a lack of anything to use them on. We grew listless. Surely the assault would begin any day, right?
Year four. There was an aura of dread hanging over the whole organization. I remember sitting in the Site-71 cafeteria, eating pickled cabbage and creamed corn salads with my comrades, when I finally heard someone ask aloud what we'd all wondered in the dark corners of our heads.
"What if they don't come back?"
It was Simmons who said that, of course. Of course. I kicked him in the faceâa punch would have really hurt himâbut the damage was done. It's a scary thought, losing your purpose in life. Faced with that kind of existential ennui, it's no wonder that everyone responded by flipping their shit. Hersberger screamed and started smearing her salad all over her face. Gertzler stabbed his fork tines into his cheek with no visible emotion. BĂŒhler just broke down and cried until his tears turned to blood.
But Schwartzentruber was downright fuming. Started shouting all sorts of obscenities. Said he'd shove his fist down Simmons' throat and rip out his toenails from the inside. And Simmons was all defensive, "you all were thinking it" and that kind of stuff. The two kept going at it. We shouldn't have just sat there and watched, but no one thought fists would ever get involved. How could we have known?
I remember the entire cafeteria going silent. One moment, the two colleagues had been arguing. Next thing we knew, Schwartzentruber was wearing Simmons' face around his arm like a bracelet. Fist went straight through. Nobody knew what to say. Hersberger just picked the brain matter from her hair. There was no finishing our dinner after something like that.
We all tried to write it off as an isolated incident, an unhinged employee who forgot his own strength in a moment of pure emotion. That illusion was shattered when reports started coming in from the other sites. Similar incidents were happening all over the world, and within a few weeks it wasn't just limited to SPC personnel. These arms were made for punching, and that's just what they did.
As time went on, it became harder for us to fight the itch. Punching bags were laughable at that point, so instead we invented punching blocks out of a titanium-concrete composite. Even fashioned them into the shape of selachians to help take the pain away, but it still wasnât enough. Whenever we came close to a cure, someone would end up atomizing the equipment with a flick of the wrist and we'd have to start over.
Eventually, one day I walked into the cafeteria and found the floor covered in what must have been two inches of blood. I thought maybe a pipe had burst until I saw BĂŒhler sitting on a table in the corner. Guy was slathered in viscera from top to bottom, and he was wearing human heads around his arms like they were snap bracelets. I asked if he wanted to talk, but he didn't answer. He just stared at his fists and trembled. Then, in the blink of an eye, he was dead, hole in his beefy chest so big I coulda driven my Grampy's Volvo through it.
That was what broke me, I think. I had never seen someone self-pugilate before. I didn't know how many people were still alive in Site-71, but I knew that I would not perpetuate the carnage. I gathered some medical supplies from the surgical augmentations lab and tied a tourniquet around my burgeoning, well-defined bicep. Carefully, I injected myself with the nearest substance that resembled an anesthetic and bid my guns goodbye.
Screaming, writhing, I hacked off my arm using only a pair of rusty toenail clippers. Needless to say, I was dizzy from pain, blood loss, and the 5 CCs of green apple daiquiri I'd injected myself with, but somehow I managed to drag myself back to the cafeteria to cauterize my stump in the kitchen's oven. Barely clinging to consciousness, I set the oven to preheat, wrapped my stump in a tent of foil, and stuck it inside, turning regularly to promote an even cauter and applying a light baste to keep it moist.
When the bleeding stopped, I went back and repeated the process with my other arm. The second time was harder, I think. With no free hands remaining, I was forced to grip the toenail clippers with my teeth. I also ran out of baste. It was the most agonizing experience I could ever possibly fathom, but here I am. Alive. My cannonball deltoids still ripple with pugilistic vigor now and then, but the stubs are too short to be lethal.
And that's it. That's my story. That's how I ended up here, barricaded alone in an underground facility, typing on a keyboard with my tongue. I haven't been able to get in touch with any other Centre sites, and I can't leave the building. Every day I lose a little more hope. My personal hygiene has suffered, tooâpartly because I can't look at a pair of clippers without bursting into tears. My toenails are getting really long now. I'll probably have to use a pair of scissors or something. I could even use that electric carving knife I got for my birthday. Hell, I think there's a chainsaw in the supply closet. No shortage of options, really.
Even if I'm alive now, there's no telling how long that will last. Sometimes I hear people punching on the reinforced doors, desperate to break in and claim another victim to slake their drunken punchlust. Someday they may succeed. There's enough food left around to keep me going a while, though just for a while. I've kept my mind occupied and my spirits up by watching Dr. Cavender's Walking Dead box sets, but I can feel that post-Season-Six quality drop looming just around the corner.
Maybe this was their plan all along. Maybe they just left the planet, knowing full well we'd destroy ourselves. Maybe when the last human has passed their final breath, the selachians will return from wherever they went and feast on our tight, sculpted corpses. Or maybe they're happier where they are now. Maybe they're not coming back. I hope that's not the case. As much as it pains me to say it: I miss them.
I miss sharks.
[23:19] DrTsega: With all the squats I've been doing, I could probably pop their heads between my fucking thighs.
[23:20] DrTsega: pop 'em just like cherries. hell yeah

Goddess Awakening Chapter 5
"Feyi don't do it!" Sade warns. Feyi finally decided to let her family in on it because they and the Adebites have a dark history with each other. Both families used to be friends until a public spat between Chief Adebite and Chief Badmus drove both families apart. What that spat was about is anyone's guess.
"Feyi, Chris humiliated you at that party years ago!! He could humiliate you again!!" says Ireti. Feyi raises an eyebrow. "I doubt it." Dr Rotimi was watching a video o Youtube and then alerts them. "Ladies you need to see this." The rest of the family exchanged confused looks before gathering round to see the video.
Chris had just posted a video online, talking about the challenge."I have a huge announcement ladies and gents!! Drum roll!!" A dramatic drum roll plays and obce it stops, Chris says excitedly, "EbonyKnight has accepted my open challenge but this time it's different. We shall have the first ever Battle Royale match live on next week Wednesday at 1pm sharp at the Hard Rock Cafe. Be there or get squared!!"
Dr Rotimi sighed. "She has no choice but to do it. Even if she does not accept it, he would still go out there and pressure her into accepting via his Youtube channel. The guy has a lot of viewers."
"Yeah but he is doing this for cheap publicity. I doubt Feyi can even win." says Mrs Badmus.
"I have beaten him several times at that game mother..."
All eyes fall on Feyi who had a determined look on his face. "I can do it again." She then comes closer to her mother and stops in front of her, arms folded. Of all the Badmus sisters, she is the shortest and resembles her father due to her slightly dark complexion and broad shoulders.
Mrs Badmus looks her daughter in the eye. "Why bother yourself with games anyways? It is a waste of time. Why not bother to do something far more tangible with your time eh? Why not start a business or go and actually get a proper job?"
Feyi glares icily at her mother. "Really mother? Is that what you want to say?" Mrs Badmus stares at her daughter. "Are you talking to me?"
"Yes I am talking to you mother because I have had it with you!" The woman was taken aback by this. "How dare you speak to your mother that way?!" Ireti shouts. "I have every right to because this woman keeps on treating me like shit!! I have no job, you do not respect me!! You are looking down on me whenever I try to do something!! Why is it that you always criticise whatever I do?! Why mother?! I did not ask to be born with whatever it is that I am born with!! God just created me that way for a reason!! Why can you not accept me for who I am?! That is why I will do that challenge!! As for the results, I will win because I know I can!! I am not useless or worthless and I will prove myself to the world and you my family!!"
With that, she walks off, leaving her stunned mother behind. She then grabs her laptop and gets down to work and begins to work hard on improving her craft by using the Practice Tool and then playing a couple games and maintaining her current track record.
Meanwhile, Chris was in his penthouse suite chilling out with his friends. "So Ebony is Feyi?! No fucking way!!" says Idris Shettima. Chris nods. "It seems that the girl improved over the years." says Richard. "How are you not sure that her account did not get boosted?" asks Chris.
"If it were boosted, then she wouldn't have gotten to Gold IV on the American server." says Alex Oputa. Chris sighs and takes his seat, a glass of red wine in hand. Memories begin to flood in his mind of his days in secondary school.
He and Feyi were classmates and he and his friends at the time used to bully and torment her relentlessly. He even exposed Feyi at a party for cheating at WAEC, a scene that tarnished the Badmus family's image. He just liked hurting Feyi partly because she is a girl and partially because she is a Badmus. Â He will never forgive her father for disgracing his own father years ago. Now he will get the ultimate revenge by destroying his archnemesis for good.
"Let's see how you survive this one Feyi."
Time begins to fly by and soon D-Day arrives. Feyi gets herself ready, wearing a simple T-Shirt with a nice ankara design on it and a pair of jeans and sneakers. The girl stares at herself in the mirror. Usually she hates looking at her reflection but today is completely different. Â Sade walks into the room. "You ready kiddo?" Feyi nods and grabs her bag and walks out of the room.
The Badmus family soon arrive at Hard Rock Cafe and walk inside to find the location of the match. The last time Feyi came in there was a couple months ago with her cousins. The entire place was filled with a lot of people. "Wow!! So many people!!" says Sade. Mrs Badmus remains unfazed, not completely interested. If anything she wants to get out of there.
"Ah there you are!!"
They turn around to see Chris make his way towards them with a fake friendly smile in place. Feyi folds her arms and takes the opportunity to scrutinize him. "Aren't you a little overdressed for a showcase match?"
Chris simply shrugs. In stark contrast to Feyi's more laidback casual outfit, Chris opted for a black suit. "Hey!! A little glam is needed here!!" She rolled her eyes. "Oh please!!"
Chris does not look at Feyi's family in light of their past terrible encounter. Instead he opts to lead Feyi towards the place where they would do the showcase. In the middle of the room are two computer systems, arranged back to back.
Without hesitation, Feyi takes her seat at one and starts it up whilst Chris follows suit. Dolapo who happened to be around the area shows up alongside some of Feyi's old friends. "Good afternoon ma." Dolapo greets Mrs Badmus as he prostrates for her. "Ah Dolapo nice to see you. Ah you brought the whole gang here." says Ireti. The other kids all greeted the other Badmuses.
"The match is simple; the two players here will play with their best champ stats. The objective is to reduce the enemy's life bar to zero. The player that does that at the end wins the game." the special announcer for the match says.
"Kind of like a mini fighting game." Dolapo mutters. "What did you say?" Sade asked. "Just an observation about what they are about to do." he replies. Kai, one of Feyi's friends from America explains. "The game is divided into various modes; the main mode that many of us know is the Gold mode. That one is where you play as a team of five. This mode is the VS mode. There is the Battle mode also like the Gold mode. That one you play as five and that one is similar to VS mode. Everyone creates a character with a base stat and with a special talent and designation."
"So how come he did not says Battle Mode?" Mrs Badmus asks."Feyi would need a team. Chris has one." says Dolapo. "If she had told us beforehand, we could have changed it to Battle Mode and trained together. " says Kai. "We will have to call Tolani after this so that we can quickly assemble a team just in case." says Henry.
Both players put on their headphones and stare intently at their screens. Both of them had logged into their accounts and had choosen their characters. Chris' character, The Dark King had spikes on his black armour and a long red cape and held a sword.
"Wait....Chris' character is a fighter/assassin whilst Feyi's a mage and a support mage at that?" Dolapo observes. "She may not win this one." says Dr Rotimi. "She can. Since she is a support, she should be able to heal herself at some point." says Kai.
The Badmus family begin to say a silent prayer as they wait for the match to start. A countdown begins and once the clock reaches zero, the game starts. "LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!"

The Unsleeping City One-Shot Proposal Update
hello friends of dimension twenty! since quarantine has started, ive really gotten into dnd and dimension twenty, and ive finally bitten the bullet and decided that i should try dming something! i have a tuc-based one-shot that iâm writing up, and have decided iâm on the lookout for some players!
i havenât picked a date yet, but iâm hoping to maybe run the short campaign starting at the end of may, starting around the 27th? iâm planning on having a session zero possibly a week before that once iâve picked the players to discuss and create characters, just to give me enough time to adjust the story where it need be!
iâm going to be picking players on wednesday, may 20th before the new episode of a crown of candy airs!
iâm looking for five players! below the cut will be rules and how to sign up! but, here is a brief description for anyone who may be interested:
itâs twenty nineteen in greenville, south carolina. the small city has been booming over the past few years. new businesses and companies have been moving in, and what was once a small farming community is now a booming semi-metropolitan area, growing by the year. with its larger population, comes larger problems. you have been called in by the coven on the reedy to help solve the murder of taylor hollis, the 35-year old vox pietate. can you, alongside four others, figure out if her death was a tragic coincidence, or is there something greater working behind the scenes trying to destroy the arcana radice, and put all beings magical, in mortal danger?
i know there are a lot of words in that summary that donât make sense, but do not fear! iâm taking a lot of the concepts brennan gifted us with in tuc, and making them my own to make sense for the context and location of the story! iâm hoping to tell a story that explores the dichotomy of natives and non-natives to a rural community who is at risk of being wiped from the area by outsiders moving to the area and urbanizing it. iâm also hoping to explore what happens when people call a place home that doesnât want them, because they reject the idea of the norm. since the story is taking place in the bible belt, religion will be a part of this story, but do not fret! i am taking careful consideration to not diminish anyoneâs faith in this story, and to treat every belief system with the respect they all deserve.
if youâre interested in playing, please fill out this google form! you can also answer the questions and dm them to me on discord! my handle is sunflower#0614.
iâm going to list the rules for this longer one-shot, as well as a bit about myself!
RULES
you have to be at least 18 to apply to be in the campaign. iâm twenty, and since this story will most likely be dealing with some sensitive subjects, i do not feel comfortable mixing both minors and adults together in this space. i apologize if youâre under eighteen and this interests you, and hopefully you find a space to tell a story you wish to tell!
the one-shot will be told over discord in its majority. i use theater of the mind combat, since itâs hard to tell a story in this digital capacity with a map. it will be voice (and video, if agreed to by the players) chat, with some textual writings as support.
by signing up for this oneshot, you agree to be respectful towards your fellow players, as well as your dm. there will be six of us in this space: five players and me. let people talk when it is their turn, and please try to not be a rule lawyer.
the campaign will be played in est (eastern-standard time), so keep that in mind international fans!
ABOUT THE DM
hello! iâm atlas or danie! iâm twenty, and have been playing dnd for about five years. this is my first time dming, so please be kind to me!
iâm about to be a junior in college down in atlanta studying feminist theology, with a focus on social justice and leadership development!
i use they/them pronouns, and currently live in greenville! iâm originally from new york, actually, which is why i connected so much to tuc.
iâm jewish, and am a lesbian, which are two things that are really important for my own personal identity and self presentation.
here is the alternative google-form to fill out: https://forms.gle/UoPEnRKR1Z4LkjLS8!
and here is the link to the questions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UcDVZPlvVc7NdEXS945qv9qjJ7Yp8Ps3byiamZFvbac/edit?usp=sharing and here is my discord account!
i look forward to hearing all about your character ideas!
ONCE AGAIN, IâM GOING TO BE SELECTING PLAYERS ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 20TH, WITH SESSION ZERO FOLLOWING SOON AFTERWARDS

The Procession (Carrying-forth) of the Venerable Wood of the Life-Creating Cross of the Lord
Commemorated on August 1 ( old âJulianâ calendar)
In the Greek Chasoslov (Orologion) of 1897 is explained thus the derivation of this feast: "By reason of the sicknesses, often everywhere occurring in August, from of old customarily it was done at Constantinople to carry out the Venerable Wood of the Cross along the roads and streets for the sanctifying of places and for the driving away of sicknesses. On the eve (31 July), carrying it out from the imperial treasury, they placed it upon the holy table of the Great Church (in honour of Saint Sophia â the Wisdom of God). From this feastday up to the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, making litia throughout all the city, they then placed it forth for all the people to venerate. This also is the Issuing-forth of the Venerable Cross".    In the Russian Church this feast is combined also with a remembrance of the Baptism of Rus', on 1 August 988. In the "Account about the making of services in the holy catholic and apostolic great church of the Uspenie-Dormition", compiled in 1627 by order of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Philaret, there is provided suchlike an explanation of the feast: "And on the day of the procession of the Venerable Cross there occurs a church-procession for the sanctification of water and for the enlightenment of the people, throughout all the towns and places".    Knowledge of the day of the actual Baptism of Rus' was preserved in the Chronicles of the XVI Century: "The Baptism of Great-prince Vladimir of Kiev and all Rus' was on August 1".    In the practice now of the Russian Church, the service of the Lesser Sanctification of Water on 1 August is done either before or after Liturgy. Together with the Blessing of Waters, there is made a Blessing of Honey (i.e. first-honey for the Saviour: "Saviour of the Water", "Saviour Moisture" [apparently in place of the vinegar and gall offered Him on the Cross?]). And from this day the newly harvested honey is blessed and tasted.

The Seven Holy Maccabean Martyrs: Habim, Antonin, Guriah, Eleazar, Eusebon, Hadim (Halim) and Marcellus, their mother Solomonia and their teacher Eleazar suffered in the year 166 before the Birth of Christ.Â
The seven holy Maccabee martyrs Abim, Antonius, Gurias, Eleazar, Eusebonus, Alimus and Marcellus, their mother Solomonia and their teacher Eleazar suffered in the year 166 before Christ under the impious Syrian king Antiochus IV Epiphanes. This foolish ruler loved pagan and Hellenistic customs, and held Jewish customs in contempt. He did everything possible to turn people from the Law of Moses and from their covenant with God. He desecrated the Temple of the Lord, placed a statue of the pagan god Zeus there, and forced the Jews to worship it. Many people abandoned the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but there were also those who continued to believe that the Savior would come.
A ninety-year-old elder, the scribe and teacher Eleazar, was brought to trial for his faithfulness to the Mosaic Law. He suffered tortures and died at Jerusalem.
The disciples of Saint Eleazar, the seven Maccabee brothers and their mother Solomonia, also displayed great courage. They were brought to trial in Antioch by King Antiochus Epiphanes. They fearlessly acknowledged themselves as followers of the True God, and refused to eat pigâs flesh, which was forbidden by the Law.
The eldest brother acted as spokesmen for the rest, saying that they preferred to die rather than break the Law. He was subjected to fierce tortures in sight of his brothers and their mother. His tongue was cut out, he was scalped, and his hands and feet were cut off. Then a cauldron and a large frying pan were heated, and the first brother was thrown into the frying pan, and he died.
The next five brothers were tortured one after the other. The seventh and youngest brother was the last one left alive. Antiochus suggested to Saint Solomonia to persuade the boy to obey him, so that her last son at least would be spared. Instead, the brave mother told him to imitate the courage of his brothers.
The child upbraided the king and was tortured even more cruelly than his brothers had been. After all her seven children had died, Saint Solomonia, stood over their bodies, raised up her hands in prayer to God and died.
The martyric death of the Maccabee brothers inspired Judas Maccabeus, and he led a revolt against Antiochus Epiphanes. With Godâs help, he gained the victory, and then purified the Temple at Jerusalem. He also threw down the altars which the pagans had set up in the streets. All these events are related in the Second Book of Maccabees (Ch. 8-10).
Various Fathers of the Church preached sermons on the seven Maccabees, including Saint Cyprian of Carthage, Saint Ambrose of Milan, Saint Gregory Nazianzus and Saint John Chrysostom.

1 Corinthians 1:18-24Â
18Â For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19Â For it is written:
20Â Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21Â For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
22Â For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
23Â but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,
24Â but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
John 19:6-11; 13-20; 25-28; 30-35 (Gospel, Cross)
6Â Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him."
7Â The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God."
8Â Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid,
9Â and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.
10Â Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?"
11Â Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."
13Â When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
14Â Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"
15Â But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"
16Â Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.
17Â And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18Â where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
19Â Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20Â Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
25Â Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26Â When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!"
27Â Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
28Â After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!"
30Â So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
31Â Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32Â Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him.
33Â But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
34Â But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35Â And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.

Sylvia Plath ; Case study : The Kansas City experiments ; Sandra Bland. In this thoughtful treatise spurred by the 2015 death of African-American academic Sandra Bland in jail after a traffic stop, New Yorker writer Gladwell (The Tipping Point) aims to figure out the strategies people use to assess strangers-to "analyze, critique them, figure out where they came from, figure out how to fix them," in other words: to understand how to balance trust and safety. He uses a variety of examples from history and recent headlines to illustrate that people size up the motivations, emotions, and trustworthiness of those they don't know both wrongly and with misplaced confidence.

Hurston, Zora Neale, author. Barracoon : the story of the last "black cargo" First edition. Plant -- Founders and original residents of Africatown -- Glossary. "In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston went to Plateau, Alabama, just outside Mobile, to interview eighty-six-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women, and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was then the only person alive to tell the story of this integral part of the nation's history. Hurston was there to record Cudjo's firsthand account of the raid that led to his capture and bondage fifty years after the Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in the United States. In 1931, Hurston returned to Plateau, the African-centric community three miles from Mobile founded by Cudjo and other former slaves from his ship. Spending more than three months there, she talked in depth with Cudjo about the details of his life. During those weeks, the young writer and the elderly formerly enslaved man ate peaches and watermelon that grew in the backyard and talked about Cudjo's past--memories from his childhood in Africa, the horrors of being captured and held in a barracoon for selection by American slavers, the harrowing experience of the Middle Passage packed with more than 100 other souls aboard the Clotilda, and the years he spent in slavery until the end of the Civil War. Based on those interviews, featuring Cudjo's unique vernacular, and written from Hurston's perspective with the compassion and singular style that have made her one of the preeminent American authors of the twentieth-century, Barracoon masterfully illustrates the tragedy of slavery and of one life forever defined by it. Offering insight into the pernicious legacy that continues to haunt us all, black and white, this poignant and powerful work is an invaluable contribution to our shared history and culture."--Publisher's website.

Kantor, Jodi, 1975- author. She said : breaking the sexual harassment story that helped ignite a movement. The first phone call -- Hollywood secrets -- How to silence a victim -- "Positive reputation management" -- A company's complicity -- "Who else is on the record?" -- "There will be a movement" -- The beachside dilemma -- "I can't guarantee I'll go to DC" -- Epilogue: The gathering. For many years, reporters had tried to get to the truth about Harvey Weinstein's treatment of women. Rumors of wrongdoing had long circulated. But in 2017, when Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey began their investigation into the prominent Hollywood producer for the New York Times, his name was still synonymous with power. During months of confidential interviews with top actresses, former Weinstein employees, and other sources, many disturbing and long-buried allegations were unearthed, and a web of onerous secret payouts and nondisclosure agreements was revealed. These shadowy settlements had long been used to hide sexual harassment and abuse, but with a breakthrough reporting technique Kantor and Twohey helped to expose it. But Weinstein had evaded scrutiny in the past, and he was not going down without a fight. He employed a team of high-profile lawyers, private investigators, and other allies to thwart the investigation. When Kantor and Twohey were finally able to convince some sources to go on the record, a dramatic final showdown between Weinstein and the New York Times was set in motion. Nothing could have prepared Kantor and Twohey for what followed the publication of their initial Weinstein story on October 5, 2017. Within days, a veritable Pandora's box of sexual harassment and abuse was opened. Women all over the world came forward with their own traumatic stories. Over the next twelve months, hundreds of men from every walk of life and industry were outed following allegations of wrongdoing. But did too much change -- or not enough? Those questions hung in the air months later as Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court, and Christine Blasey Ford came forward to testify that he had assaulted her decades earlier. Kantor and Twohey, who had unique access to Ford and her team, bring to light the odyssey that led her to come forward, the overwhelming forces that came to bear on her, and what happened after she shared her allegation with the world.

Larson, Erik, 1954- author. The splendid and the vile. First edition. Bleak Expectations -- The Rising Threat -- A Certain Eventuality -- Dread -- Blood and Dust -- The Americans -- Love Amid the Flames -- One Year to the Day -- Epilogue. "The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Devil in the White City and Dead Wake delivers a fresh and compelling portrait of Winston Churchill and London during the Blitz On Winston Churchill's first day as prime minister, Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next twelve months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold the country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally-and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows, in cinematic detail, how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless." It is a story of political brinkmanship, but it's also an intimate domestic drama set against the backdrop of Churchill's prime-ministerial country home, Chequers; his wartime retreat, Ditchley, where he and his entourage go when the moon is brightest and the bombing threat is highest; and of course 10 Downing Street in London. Drawing on diaries, original archival documents, and once-secret intelligence reports-some released only recently-Larson provides a new lens on London's darkest year through the day-to-day experience of Churchill and his family: his wife, Clementine; their youngest daughter, Mary, who chafes against her parents' wartime protectiveness; their son, Randolph, and his beautiful, unhappy wife, Pamela; Pamela's illicit lover, a dashing American emissary; and the cadre of close advisers who comprised Churchill's "Secret Circle," including his lovestruck private secretary, John Colville; newspaper baron Lord Beaverbrook; and the Rasputin-like Frederick Lindemann. The Splendid and the Vile takes readers out of today's political dysfunction and back to a time of true leadership, when-in the face of unrelenting horror-Churchill's eloquence, courage, and perseverance bound a country, and a family, together."--.

Purnell, Sonia, author. A woman of no importance : the untold story of the American spy who helped win World War II. The dream -- Cometh the hour -- My tart friends -- Good-bye to Dindy -- Twelve minutes, twelve men -- Honeycomb of spies -- Cruel mountain -- Agent most wanted -- Scores to settle -- Madonna of the mountains -- From the skies above -- The CIA years. "The never-before-told story of one woman's heroism that changed the course of the Second World War In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent command across France: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." This spy was Virginia Hall, a young American woman--rejected from the foreign service because of her gender and her prosthetic leg--who talked her way into the spy organization dubbed Churchill's "ministry of ungentlemanly warfare," and, before the United States had even entered the war, became the first woman to deploy to occupied France. Virginia Hall was one of the greatest spies in American history, yet her story remains untold. Just as she did in Clementine, Sonia Purnell uncovers the captivating story of a powerful, influential, yet shockingly overlooked heroine of the Second World War. At a time when sending female secret agents into enemy territory was still strictly forbidden, Virginia Hall came to be known as the "Madonna of the Resistance," coordinating a network of spies to blow up bridges, report on German troop movements, arrange equipment drops for Resistance agents, and recruit and train guerilla fighters. Even as her face covered WANTED posters throughout Europe, Virginia refused order after order to evacuate. She finally escaped with her life in a grueling hike over the Pyrenees into Spain, her cover blown, and her associates all imprisoned or executed. But, adamant that she had "more lives to save," she dove back in as soon as she could, organizing forces to sabotage enemy lines and back up Allied forces landing on Normandy beaches. Told with Purnell's signature insight and novelistic panache, A Woman of No Importance is the breathtaking story of how one woman's fierce persistence helped win the war"--.

Hatton, Barry, 1963- author. Queen of the sea : a history of Lisbon. "Lisbon was almost somewhere else. Portuguese officials considered moving the city after it was devastated by what is believed to be the strongest earthquake ever to strike modern Europe, in 1755, followed by a tidal wave as high as a double-decker bus and a six-day inferno that turned sand into glass. Lisbon's charm is legendary, but its rich, 2,000-year history is not widely known. This single-volume history provides an unrivaled and intimate portrait of the city and an entertaining account of its colourful past. It reveals that in Roman times the city was more important than initially thought, possessing a large theatre and hippodrome. The 1147 Siege of Lisbon was a dramatic medieval battle that was a key part of the Iberian reconquista. As Portugal built an empire spanning four continents, its capital became a wealthy international bazaar. The Portuguese king's cort©·ge was led by a rhinoceros which was followed by five elephants in gold brocade, an Arabian horse and a jaguar. The Portuguese were the world's biggest slavers, and by the mid-16th century around 10 percent of the Lisbon's population was black, imbuing the city with an African flavour it has retained. Invasion by Napoleon's armies, and the assassination of a king and the establishment of a republic, also left their marks. The city's two bridges over the River Tagus illustrate the legacy of a 20th-century dictator and Portugal's new era in Europe."--Publisher's description.

Ron Chernow tells the story of a man who overcame all odds to shape, inspire, and scandalize the newborn America. Few figures in American history have been more hotly debated or more grossly misunderstood than Alexander Hamilton. Chernow's biography argues that the political and economic greatness of today's America is the result of Hamilton's countless sacrifices to champion ideas that were often wildly disputed during his time. Chernow here recounts Hamilton's turbulent life: an illegitimate, largely self-taught orphan from the Caribbean, he came out of nowhere to take America by storm, rising to become George Washington's aide-de-camp in the Continental Army, coauthoring The Federalist Papers, founding the Bank of New York, leading the Federalist Party, and becoming the first Treasury Secretary of the United States. Historians have long told the story of America's birth as the triumph of Jefferson's democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power. His is a Hamilton far more human than we've encountered before -- from his shame about his birth to his fiery aspirations, from his intimate relationships with childhood friends to his titanic feuds with Jefferson, Madison, Adams, Monroe, and Burr, and from his highly public affair with Maria Reynolds to his loving marriage to his loyal wife Eliza. And never before has there been a more vivid account of Hamilton's famous and mysterious death in a duel with Aaron Burr in July of 1804.

Wicker, Tom. Dwight D. Eisenhower. First edition. New York : Times Books, 2002. An American hero at the close of World War II, General Dwight Eisenhower rode an enormous wave of popularity into the Oval Office seven years later. Though we may view the Eisenhower years through a hazy lens of 1950s nostalgia, historians consider his presidency one of the least successful. At home there was civil rights unrest, McCarthyism, and a deteriorating economy; internationally, the Cold War was deepening. But despite his tendency toward "brinksmanship," Ike would later be revered for "keeping the peace." Still, his actions and policies at the onset of his career, covered by Tom Wicker, would haunt Americans of future generations.

Kennedy, Peggy Wallace, author. The broken road. The bridge -- In the beginning -- Romance in the air -- Coming home -- The race -- Into the darkness -- The broken road -- You got what you wanted -- The victory is ours -- 1963 -- Picture perfect -- A storm's a-comin' -- Success is to succeed -- Dynasty -- For you -- Stand up -- Things just change -- Buckle my shoes -- The book of lamentations -- 'Til death do us part -- In tents -- Testify, brother Wallace! -- Stepping down -- Benched -- The end of an era -- Doors -- Letters from Baghdad -- Back to the bridge. "From the daughter of one of America's most virulent segregationists, a memoir that reckons with her father George Wallace's legacy of hate -- and illuminates her journey towards redemption. Peggy Wallace Kennedy has been widely hailed as the 'symbol of racial reconciliation' (Washington Post). In the summer of 1963, though, she was just a young girl watching her father stand in a schoolhouse door as he tried to block two African-American students from entering the University of Alabama. This man, former governor of Alabama and presidential candidate George Wallace, was notorious for his hateful rhetoric and his political stunts. But he was also a larger-than-life father to young Peggy, who was taught to smile, sit straight, and not speak up as her father took to the political stage. At the end of his life, Wallace came to renounce his views, although he could never attempt to fully repair the damage he caused. But Peggy, after her own political awakening, dedicated her life to spreading the new Wallace message -- one of peace, penance, and compassion. In this powerful new memoir, Peggy looks back on the politics of her youth and attempts to reconcile her adored father with the man who coined the phrase 'Segregation now. Segregation tomorrow. Segregation forever.' Timely and timeless, The Broken Road speaks to change, atonement, activism, and racial reconciliation"--.

Prologue -- Lazy B -- Stanford -- The golden couple -- Majority leader -- Arizona judge -- The President calls -- Inside the Marble Palace -- Scrutiny -- FWOTSC -- Cancer -- A woman's role -- Civil religion -- Bush v. Gore -- Affirmative action -- End game -- Labor of love. "Based on exclusive interviews and access to the Supreme Court archives, this is the intimate, inspiring, and authoritative biography of America's first female Justice, Sandra Day O'Connor--by New York Times bestselling author Evan Thomas. She was born in 1930 in El Paso and grew up on a cattle ranch in Arizona. At a time when women were expected to be homemakers, she set her sights on Stanford University. When she graduated near the top of her class at law school in 1952, no firm would even interview her. But Sandra Day O'Connor's story is that of a woman who repeatedly shattered glass ceilings--doing so with a blend of grace, wisdom, humor, understatement, and cowgirl toughness. She became the first-ever female majority leader of a state senate. As a judge on the Arizona State Court of Appeals, she stood up to corrupt lawyers and humanized the law. When she arrived at the Supreme Court, appointed by Reagan in 1981, she began a quarter-century tenure on the court, hearing cases that ultimately shaped American law. Diagnosed with cancer at fifty-eight, and caring for a husband with Alzheimer's, O'Connor endured every difficulty with grit and poise. Women and men today will be inspired by how to be first in your own life, how to know when to fight and when to walk away, through O'Connor's example. This is a remarkably vivid and personal portrait of a woman who loved her family and believed in serving her country, who, when she became the most powerful woman in America, built a bridge forward for the women who followed her"--. Boots Reads Homestuck Epilogue(s) Part 10 - Candy Part 1 again
I was told that finishing the epilogue MAY make me feel better by some with opinions, with some vague hints that the ridiculous start of Candy may have underlying reasons, so now that Iâm awake again (though my stomach is roiling a bit again) Iâm gonna take another crack at it.
Alright, so I was also hinted that this Candy part ends with a different cliffhanger, so maybe those two will cancel out? Â Thatâs my hope anyway.
Reading page 1 again since I didnât finish the very tail end of it... alright, so WHY IS ROXY CRYING again????  Was she just PRETENDING that she didnât know it might turn out bad for John if he went at the end of the last one?  Was there some weird mind-rewriting going on?  Is the crying a symptom of this whole thing potentially being an our!Callie fanfic and she knows whatâs being dodged??  Donât know.
Alright, letâs have him save Gamzee and... is Vriska going to get saved in this version? Â Or is that descent into the black hole without seeing what happens her well-deserved comeuppance while only the ghost version of Vriska truly figured out how to be happy?
==>
Dirk acknowledges him when he zaps back, but itâs YOUNG Dirk so hopefully there isnât any stupid Meat stuff going on.
...Yeah, Gamzee immediately being repentant is weird as shit.  Maybe he Chucklevoodooâd Callie into escaping him into this whole candied mess so he could start shit, I dunno.  That or this isnât really Gamzee or someoneâs manipulating him or etc etc etc.  The hint I got earlier was that if I thought Calliope wanting to bring Gamzee back and everyone just rolling with it was a little out of character, there are âreasonsâ, so Iâm just going through all of this under the assumption that some emotion-manipulating weirdness is going on regardless.
Oh shit, Gamzeeâs going to start recounting his character reasons for doing bad stuff in a surface-hope of justification and understanding. Â All the characters immediately recognize how painfully groanworthy this is going to be.
GAMZEE: AnD sUcH iS wHy Iâm GrAbBiNg HoLd Of My RePeNtAnCe As FiRm AnD sErIoUs As I wOuLd A wHoReâS tItTy!
Yeah, that really encapsulates how âseriousâ all of this is.  And of course, Johnâs not having any of it.
Yeah, Terezi wouldnât have any of it either, remotely.
Something feels different, but he canât put his finger on it.
Hm. Â The aforementioned manipulation-weirdness?
==>
Okay, so itâs kind of Dirk who notices something different and is cancelling his stupid villain plans, got it.
Volatility of causality, huh?
(Iâm going to be going through these parts a little faster than the Meat section, unsurprisingly.)
==>
Okay, Rose and Kanaya, are we gonna cure her substance abuse or--
With all the distance between them lately,
God damnit, have Dirkâs manipulations extended that far OFFSCREEN or is this legitimate character distancing???? Because either is BAD. Â >:(
Right, now that the plot and ârelevanceâ has been sidelined over to a different timeline, Rose can now breathe easy free of her condition.  And whichever parts of her condition were, perhaps, IMPOSED on her.  Fuck.
Iâm going to try my fucking best to cling to this, hope I can carry on a memory after this is over that DOESNâT imagine Rose trapped in a fucking existential dying villain coma with a hard fucking cutoff that promises nothing is ever coming to resolve it ever. Â (Or Jade in a somewhat-similar sidelined situation, or Jane doomed to fuck herself over and everyone else too, or...)
Whatâs slipping away instead is the feeling that any of it mattered at all. Was she insane to be so consumed by such lofty concerns, and is she only beginning to experience clarity today, for the first time in ages?
Yeah, youâre no longer in a timeline of Light and relevance. Â And thatâs not so bad, which is something you never expected to be true given your derision of the concept. Â Void is pretty goddamn alright.
--Oh right, the illness and substance abuse probably caused plenty of distance between them.
KANAYA: There Was A Feeling I Couldnt Shake That Something Terrible Was Going To Happen To Us KANAYA: Something That Neither Of Us Could Stop KANAYA: A Powerful Outside Force That Would Take You Away From Me KANAYA: And I Couldnt Stop Myself From Thinking That Maybe KANAYA: Maybe That It Would Be For The Best ROSE: Kanaya... KANAYA: I Can Now See That This Is Completely Ridiculous
For some reason, this doesnât settle my stomach much? Â Itâs clear Andrew wove this in here so that if you read Meat first, youâd be able to acknowledge readily how this diverged in a way the characters kind of recognize, and... Iâm not sure what Iâm even saying. Â Itâs like thereâs hope that this is TRYING to take the bad taste out of my mouth, but I donât believe it overly much.
ROSE: What a relief, considering that we are both going to be young and magically fit literally forever.
Wait, so they DID find a way to extend their non-ascended friendsâ lifespans to practical immortality? Â Janeâs Life powers? Â Something else?
==>
yay jade. Â more extended dave metaphors. Â calm down stomach.
JADE: i never thought id be thinking of you as my weird nerd friend by the time we were in our twenties
Heheheh.
DAVE: yeah well i never thought youd be like the premiere woo girl on the planet
Had to look up what a âwoo girlâ was.
Yes Jade go flirt them to death
What sheâs planning isnât a seduction. Itâs a public service.
Pff
(And yeah, sheâs being pushy but at least she doesnât go DIRK FAR about it.)
DAVE: its incredible hes driven at least ten people off the site by creating thinly veiled parody accounts of their usernames
Oh my gosh, Karkatâs good enough to ANDREW HUSSIE them?!??? Â :D
Thatâs incredible.
Karkat knows damned well what a husband is. Heâs been force-fed enough bad movies from Dave to pick up any human euphemism you could name. He still plays dumb sometimes, for comedic effect, to irritate his friends, or simply to avoid a topic of conversation altogether.
Yeah, it was always pretty clear that about HALF of the trolls pretended not to understand something human that they knew about just for comedic effect and they knew it. Â :)
It would be pretty easy to mistake his reaction for arousal, so itâs understandable that Jade is extremely surprised when Karkat snaps his jaw shut and chomps down on her hand.
PFFFFHahahahah :D
And yep, Jane cancelled her run at Dirkâs direction.
DAVE: lets all just thank whichever christ was responsible for making whatever decision resulted in her deciding not to do that
*nod nod*
JADE: well i hope she gets a better hobby JADE: there are a lot of less ominous things she could do with her time KARKAT: WHAT, LIKE FUCKING HER WAY THROUGH HALF THE POPULATION OF EARTH C?
Jade pinches his ear and twists hard, smiling pleasantly.
JADE: get fucked karkat
Yeah, this is about the level of violence/threat Iâd expect from Jade when anyone slut-shames her for perfectly acceptable behavior.
==>
There is almost no crime on Earth C, and so almost no one locks their door.
Huh. Â I guess post-scarcity might do that.
Alright, we get to see Jane being less of a fuckass.
Dirk was the one person on Earth C who took the state of the locksmith industry with the seriousness it deserved.
Pffff
JAKE: Thats my theory at least. Maybe its tommyrot but i have faith that dirk will be back. After all where is he going to go?
Good question that wasnât answered in Meat, so of course Jake says it here obliviously.
JAKE: I must admit i am rather half rats at the moment. JANE: Youâre what? JAKE: Haha sorry that was a pretty obtuse way of putting it wasnt it. JAKE: What i mean to say is that ive been powdering my hair quite a bit today.
Andrew is SO good at making Jake sound completely incomprehensible.
...Ouch, Jane, donât drink so hard! D:
The âmorbsâ??
JAKE: Dirk has that manner about him does he not? JAKE: A way about him that makes you feel like whatever you do as long as it does not involve him it doesnt count for dick.
Yeah, fuck Dirk.
Hm... is the absence of relevance affecting them, or some other manipulation? Itâs not just the LACK of Dirkâs manipulation.
JAKE: Except of course for that time when you were under mind control and had me trussed up in your lair as you pontificated villainously about using me as a breeding stud to create a blood lineage for your incumbent corporate space empire.
A fate Dirk seems to agree with, judging by Meat. Â Letâs sidestep that fucking entirely, thank you.
...yeah, I didnât expect Jakeâs response to be any less oblivious than exactly that.
==>
So why DID Callie bring Gamzee back, anyway? Â Is there some secret use for him in mind? Â Was she manipulated into it? Â Maybe BY Gamzee? Â Hm.
...alright, priestly with followings. Â That ainât good. Â Is he aiming for Clown President MK2?
Everything Callie and Roxy have done and said in this Candy section so far seems creepily contrived, possibly by design.
...okay did they have some kind of weird agreement? Like, âokay John is gonna make his choice, and if he chooses to stay i try dating him instead of you, Callieâ???  Thatâs... no that canât be it.  Roxyâs NEVER acted THIS oblivious before.  Whatâs she playing at?
GAMZEE: mY fUcKiN *gUy*. :o) JOHN: ... GAMZEE: My DuDe AnD mY nInJa AlIkE. GAMZEE: mY *hOrN* dOoOoG. JOHN: ... GAMZEE: mY hOrN tO tHa MoThErFuCkIn DoG. ;o) JOHN: waiter! help!
Iâm imagining Gamzee now as a sweaty and homeless, unkempt Guy Fieri.
Yeah, this doesnât look like itâll be fun.
==>
...Swifer Eggmop. Â ÂŹ_ÂŹâ
Thereâs a third member of their social group who definitely hasnât arrived at the conclusion that his power and influence should be meted out responsibly either. Neither of them speak his name, however. For some reason, it feels like a shadow passing over the sun. A brief spike of pain flickers through Roseâs head, a bolt that strikes between her eyes and splinters out. There is color and light behind it. A vision that tears through the material reality in front of her and gives her a brief glimpse into a parallel reality where things are very different.
Yeah, fuck Dirk.
...Pff. Yeah, Rose WOULD mimic the record-scratch gesture.
Donât invoke ânever seeing Vriska againâ like that, youâre really tempting fate.
Heh, Rose is finding some Light in the darkness, wanting to do something thatâs meaningful on an expressive level with this Vriskgrub business.
Hm... why is my stomach a little less uneasy?
I sure hope it stays that way.
==>
KARKAT: OH MY GOD, ARE THE MECHANICAL GLUTES ON THAT BILLBOARD ACTUALLY PADDED WITH PLUSH TO MAKE THEM MORE LIFELIKE?
Heck Yes
...Yes, touch the butt, Karkat.
Jade, pouting a bit, glides in between them and uses her Space powers to teleport Daveâs phone out from the center of his traumatized palm and into the pocket of her sweater.
Hm! Â So she still has teleportation abilities over a limited range even without her Green Sun boost, thatâs nice. Â :D
After all, where would these two pitiful beta boys be without her?
Oh my fucking god stop being Dirk, Jade. Â And never use that narrative language again, even in your head. Â Heck, even if Dirkâs the one WRITING this still, donât even think CLOSE enough to think those words.
...yeah this sounds like an Active player class taking things slightly too far.
Thank you, Karkat, for drawing the consent-line in the sand. Â Looks like Jadeâs backing off a little.
--hold on, wait, Dave kissed him? He did, so why is-- let me read back up--
Dave doesnât answer. She answers for him by leaning down and planting a dry, affectionate kiss on Karkatâs cheek.
Okay I misread this line earlier. Â Jade kissed Karkat when neither of them were looking and is BLAMING Dave. Â Hmm.
Alright, Dave ollies outie. Â Karkat tumbles down some hillstairs.
Jade could probably catch him. Actually, she could easily do it, but it doesnât seem like the kind of favor you should do in a fledgling kismesissitude.
Thaaaatâs a little presumptuous??
JADE: well i guess im eating grub spaghetti alone JADE: *again*!!!
:C
Iâd be sadder if you didnât bring it down hard upon yourself but
:C
==>
Yeah, John, better clear up this Callie business because itâs muddy as heck why Roxy would just drop everything to try things out with you.
Ah, weâre bringing up the gender identity thing on this side too, hm?
More serious talk, this is good, reading reading...
The glasses clink together clumsily, and water gets all over the complimentary breadsticks.
Oh no. Â This had better not be Olive Garden.
ROXY: no one else has ever made me feel like this
--not Calliope???
What the heck is even going on.
Daveâs coming for some bro help it looks like.
==>
Itâs hilarious how much Dave is freaking out about this, and how completely in-character it is.
JOHN: holy fucking shit. JOHN: thereâs a gay snooze button? DAVE: yeah man theres a gay snooze button JOHN: wow.
I love these twoâs conversations
......wait, Daveâs been holding off on kissing Karkat because of what he thinks JADE might think???? D:
JOHN: i almost managed to forget that she was trying to fuck you and karkat.
Pfffffffff  :D
Yep. Â I love it being put so bluntly.
Reading on... yeah, for some reason I also always figured that the end result of a nice three-way relationship between those three people would be Jade and Dave essentially both just glomming onto Karkat more than each other? Â Hm.
JOHN: i mean... it doesnât sound... JOHN: *canon*?
...I hope youâre just talking about his coin flip explanation and not DaveKatJade. Â >:(
John wonders when talking to Dirk has fixed anything for anyone.
Nod nod.
She grins up at John with shimmering, adoring eyes. Theyâre reflecting every star in the sky, all for him.
Seriously, what the hell. Â Is Roxy hypnotized? Â Putting on an act? Â A voidy act??
Iâm not doubting that Roxy COULD feel that way about John, Iâm doubting the suddenness and the way Calliope is being deliberately ignored in the situation, which is so goddamn obvious that JOHN is uncomfortable about it. Â Thereâs something seriously strange going on.
It itches at the back of his head, the idea that he might have just fucked up Daveâs entire life.
D:
Alright next post after a bit of breakfast.

wait what happened with pokemon?? i haven't been keeping up with the news cause i dont have a switch and therefor cant even play
Oof, alright here we go *snaps neck and fingers*
So for the past many years, since Generation 3, Game Freak has created their mainline Pokemon games with the ability to transfer up after each gen. Meaning when I played Emerald (Gen III) and trained a Volbeat, I can later send it to the next series of games (Gen IV).
Game Freak has used this "continue your journey with your Pokemon" concept to sell products like Pokemon Bank, an online service through Nintendo that lets you transfer from Gen V to VI & VII.
This has been the pattern for a very long time, following after Gen II where you could NOT transfer into Gen III.
Fast forward to recently when Game Freak/Nintendo announced Pokemon Home. This service was hyped as a way to bring all your Pokemon from past games into a home where they can all remain friends with you. Lots of cheese and nonsense, I loved it.
This would coincide with the newest games: Gen VIII (Sword and Sheild/SWSH). You could transfer your Pokemon from Bank (meaning Pokemon from Gens 3-7), Pokemon Go, and Pokemon Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu. However, from the start, they told us we could ONLY take Pokemon OUT of Home when we transferred them into Pokemon SWSH. This was not a surprise, and people, like myself, were pumped.
Fast forward to E3
GameFreak shows a demo copy of SWSH and talks about the game in a segment called Treehouse. While there, it's announced, somewhat offhand rather than directly, that Pokemon Sword and Sheild will not have every Pokemon species coded into the games. This means only those Pokemon which DO appear in the games can be traded out of Home.
This...did not go over well
And here's why I'm concerned and upset
Currently, based on what we know for certain (not extrapolating or hoping) we know that many of the Pokemon we've collected as fans throughout the series will be placed in a glass case and cannot be removed to play with. This could last for a while depending on how long it takes for particular Pokemon to get placed in a certain game. For instance, I may have to wait for years until I can move my Volbeat into the next games.
But there's more. Home, as a sequel to bank, has a high likelihood to be a paid server. This is concerning on two levels. One, what happens if I can't afford to keep paying for my glass case? Before, I could put my collection into a physical game before the subscription ends. Now, only some of them can leave the case. If they stay, and I don't pay, there is no guarantee they won't be deleted
Meanwhile lets say you pay routinely. What happens if the servers crash. Suddenly you lose all your Pokemon with no control over the situation. Before, you could CHOOSE to run that gambit. Now you have no choice. You will have some Pokemon, if transferred, at risk of deletion based NOT on your ability to keep a game card or system safe but on someone else keeping servers running
What's more, perhaps you argue we can wait for a combination of games that eventually allow us to move all our Pokemon onto the next gen of cartridges. Depending on how long that takes, Bank may close. This will make all games and Pokemon caught from Gen 3-7 inaccessible to Home. Now you have to choose. Dangerous glass case Home or FOREVER kept in the lower level games
For me, I have a wide collection of Pokemon that I've put a lot of work into. A nearly living pokedex. It's a huge issue to me that I won't be able to keep moving those Pokemon into the next generation with better graphics, new moves, and more chances to interact with things like Pokemon Ami
This doesn't even begin to take into account some of the graphical issues I've seen since following several social media accounts talking about the Pokedex issue
Refusing to buy the game is both an attempt to send a message to GameFreak (no matter how useless) and saving money in hopes to buy a better version they'll release...eventually...I hope...

Medical marijuana advocacy
First Tumblr post!
I created this account so I can voice what I need to without the inevitable backlash from family and peers.
Weed is a strange subject right now. It's sort of legal, but sort of not. Sort of criminal, maybe kind of decriminalized. It's still taboo even though a huge number of people use it. It's still frowned upon by mother's (mine haha), employers, law enforcement.
Hi, I'm Alex and I'm a pot head. I first smoked weed out of a tobacco pipe on a highway overpass, on a hot summer evening when I was supposed to be at a church fair down the street, when I was approximately 14 years old and the rest is history. Now I am a 24 year old functioning member of society. I'm a wife and mom of two incredible and intelligent kids. I go to work when I'm supposed to (mostly), I pay my bills and my taxes and I (sort of) uphold traffic laws.
I also smoke cannabis whenever I am conscious. I doubt that anyone knows the difference between sober and stoned me anymore. I enjoy it. I use it as a crutch for my clinical and sometimes debilitating depression. I use it when I get headaches or migraines, a stomach bug, unnecessary family drama, tired, awake, hard day at work, celebrating, you name it.
At the end of the day, I do not care what the laws are. I should but I don't. In my state, medical marijuana is legal, recreational is illegal, but has been decriminalized so I think all you will get is a fine if caught with it. I advocate for medical marijuana to be fully accessable as needed for many ailments, mainly centered towards cancer patients.
A few weeks ago I sat in a waiting room after a follow up appointment with my oncologist. I'm still clear, in case you are wondering. I sat there with my husband staring at a TV screen with a health information slide show playing. Eventually it came to a slide concerning nausea after treatment. And all the "suggestions" were Bull. Shit. Different foods to try, exercise, medication. I lol'd. Because let me tell you guys, after a few hours of sitting in a chair with an IV in your chest receiving chemotherapy nicknamed "red death" (due to its bright red color before injection, when you pee it out, and simply because the side effects SUCK,) you don't want to eat, you cannot exercise, and you've already pumped every kind of pharmaceutical into your body desperately trying to relieve the sickness.
When I was 18 years old, freshly graduated from high school with a 6 month old on my hip, I was diagnosed with cancer. My mom was super proactive and got the ball rolling immediately. Just the year before, I saw my father die from cancer. I thought I had some preparation for how I'd feel after treatment. I was wrong.
The first treatment, I cried when they inserted the giant needle into the medi port in my chest. More because I was scared than because of pain. They told me I probably wouldn't feel any side effects until the next day so I finished the treatment a little dazed, but continued on to the grocery store with my mom. We tried to buy food for when I got hungry. I started feeling the weight of the world on me. A feeling I can only describe as poison taking over your body. Nausea. Oh the nausea. I went home and slept for two to three days. Only opening my eyes for water and medication. It. Was. Torture. Id never felt so bad in my life. I never imagined feeling so bad. Ever. And when I finally woke up, I looked my mom in the eyes and told her I couldn't do this. So told me I had to.
So off to the next treatment I went two weeks later (every other week.) This time we added additional nausea medications to my IV before treatment. Same results. I was asleep for a few days. When I finally woke up, my husband (fiance at the time) suggested we go search for food I'd be able to stomach. We drove off, he pulled out a blunt for me to smoke, I was scared to try it, feeling as awful as I did. But then the nausea started to lessen. I wasn't in such a "brain fog". I. Was. Hungry. AND I was able to eat and keep down just about anything I wanted. I was amazed. I was thankful. I was going to get through this.
So the next appointment, my husband took me. He held my hand during treatment, packed me into the car afterwards, drove off and again, handed me a blunt. And again, I felt okay. I felt.. definitely better since the last round. After that, I smoked weed as needed. Which was frequently. The chemo was Hell. But instead of being in a coma for three days, then days of sickness afterwards just trying to recover, I would bunker down for two to three days, use the pot as needed and THEN I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT MY LIFE FOR THE NEXT WEEK AND A HALF UNTIL THE NEXT TREATMENT. I mean, holy shit. It was like night and day, the difference cannabis made during all of that.
This stuff is the reason I made it. This stuff is the reason I was able to function like I did. I was able to be a mom and a daughter and a partner. I was able to live.
And then I realized that this shit, weed, ganja, pot, cannabis, MJ, the devil's lettuce, is not available to every cancer patient out there. There are still states where this is illegal.
Wait until you read what I am about to type next.
Because of lack of education and the unfortunate stigma against marijuana use, people who really need this shit, people going through chemotherapy, do not have regular and full access it. Everywhere.
It's insane really. Something so simple, easily grown, can make such a difference. THIS is what should be playing on the slide shows in the cancer centers. This is what we should be educating our family and friends on when they get sick. This, marijuana, is hope when there doesn't seem to be any.
Be open minded. Educate yourself. Pass it along. You never know who it could help.
