i was thinking about your dirk and hal poll and i want to mention that i think your concept for ink and iron where dirk creates hal from his reflection by enchanting a mirror is so cool 😌
thank you! hal's predicament and purpose within the canon narrative is so fascinating and i felt it was really important to find a way to explore what i find most interesting with him. i can't take full credit for the concept though i took inspiration from a few placees (one of my friends pitched the idea of the mirror accidentally dumping him onto jake's doorstop for example) but overall i think the idea is very fun and i'm really excited to write more hal stuff!!! also i'm going to take the opportunity to share this oldish doodle i found:
the mispelling of angel as angle was NOT intentional (<- dyslexia haver) but it probably explains a lot. he's pointy
#obviously an AU is going to be different from canon#but i like AUs specifically *because* i have a lot of fun trying to translate canon ideas into another setting or genre in general#in this case its a riff on the fairy tale magic mirror#hal is still an experiment gone wrong/artificial being created to serve a purpose trapped in a non-physical form and denied personhood#as well as being an extension of dirk's selfhood and very literal expression of his self image#this time with extra gender problems as per my original intentions for the fic. which now feel more than a bit heavy handed but whatever#point is hal gets to play up the trapped demon/spirit/almost genie-esque angle isntead of the artificial intelligence schtick in canon#which i am having a lot of fun writing!#he is also a very important plot device. multitalented 💕#for anyone wondering i&i is NOT an abandoned project its just huge and whipping it into shape is slow going#i've taken breaks to work on other stuff too#ink and iron#i guess that's a tag i should start using#even though i'm not too happy with the title still. lmao

Do the matoran even know what the difference between male and female is. Did the great beings ever instil the knowledge in them or is it just something that they like. Picked up from other species like the vortixx and skakdi. And makuta i guess. Do they assume female and male are an oversemplification of the elemental thing. So like you have female which is Water and then all the other elements just get funneled into male which instead of a specific element is just Not-Water.
How do they rationalize lightning matoran then. Like are they a subkind of ga-matoran? Because water is a good conductor for lightning? And what about Orde and the psionics. Great Beings go well we cant have you be male now bc youre too destructive, lets make the next ones all female, and Orde is just like what the fuck is a male. Or a female. Never heard of that in my life.
#bionicle#random talks#honestly its very fun to think abt these things and using them to make the matoran even more distanced from the audience#really let them be their own weird n fucked up lil species#i like the hc that their element is their gender which however in turn causes Great Confusion abt the use of male and female distinctions#so i imagine they Did jus pick that up from other species and used it in a really simplified way. but also the dont know what it means#like they mightve assumed that Vezok n Vamprah and Tarix n Berix were female bc they were blue. which. is baffling to everybody else#but makes Perfect Sense for them#edit didnt include nonbinary/genderqueer identities bc based on the elemental gender hc theyd literally go 'oh yeah' and not question that#theyve got at least 12 genders probably so they can understand the idea of a spectrum#its SPECIFICALLY the male/female distinction thats Weird for them to have bc theyve got Absolutely Nothing to base it on

object show characters being named as their own objects might strike you as odd, but is it really that strange? with humans, differentiating each other using names is necessary. we're all "humans," so there's not much to name off of. physical features, maybe, but people can often share those...
however, with objects, there's a clear distinction to name someone after. and, why do names exist? to distinguish people from one another. why would you make a name, when there's already a perfectly good one right there? and sure, there's people who are the same object, but there's people with the same name too. they'd probably get nicknames/slightly different names... besides, that's why surnames exist.
#wheucto#wheucto speaks#osc#object show community#Be subjected to my thoughts.#<- /silly#tags don't add onto my point at all i just wanted to ramble about how names might work in an objects' universe#though this doesn't mean human-esque given names can't exist... like_ nobility tended to have a bunch of names... there might be something#- similar there? like they had non-object names#also for someone super well known like royalty_ it's probably important to distinguish them from other objects of the same kind#also for patronymics/matronymics... theres going to be people named something like [object] treeson or like featherson... thats so silly#in this system_ it would be very possible for someone to be named “feather featherson”#bc your parents wouldn't really choose your name#also i like to imagine an america (US that is) where they just have crazy names bc they wanted to be able to choose their own#since the nobility and royalty had names but the commoners didn't...#i dont know if that would be likely but i think it would be fun!!!#also since it'd be a movement started by like_ adults... it would mostly be people choosing their own name... which (i think) would lead -#- into a society where people are typically expected to choose their names#(maybe parents would name their children... but it'd be accepted if they later changed their name...)#(though i'd imagine being called like your object name as a child could be kind of weird... but who's to say people wouldn't like their -#- object names?)#and like... if you're choosing your own name. imagine you're like twelve. you'd probably like name yourself after like a character or -#- something similarly stupid. like internet names_ except it's real life!#also i wonder how gendered names would be? i mean_ they could probably develop somewhat similarly to human names?#and i wonder about if there's like a difference between how... um... upper class people with names (in non-US countries) and americans -#- treat names... like for an american maybe_ being called by your name (or its derivatives) even among close ones is the norm#but elsewhere it's common (for those with names) to be referred to by your object when you're close to them

very compelled by elsters gender both in a transmasc and transfem way bc well elster transmasc lesbian? beautiful wonderful 10/10. she is a robot whose body was made to fit the standards of what people consider a woman to look like, as is the case with most other replikas, so once she starts being treated more like a person of her own instead of just a worker robot, its fun to think of her chafing against it. on the other hand theres elster who was made to look like a woman/her neural pattern is copied from a woman, but is still treated like an object thats only there to do the job. shes referred to by others as 'it' in a dehumanizing way altho not purposely degrading bc they dont consider her a person enough to see this as cruel to her in any way. and slowly she ends up regaining her personhood and a concept of gender that feels right, as much as it can, considering the circumstances
#its complicated right. bc i dont think replikas would consider this much but also idk they are conditioned not to#elster being with ariane who disobeys the rules of what youre Not supposed to do with an elster replika clearly ends with her regaining mor#of a personal identity and willingness to like. make her own choices that arent orders#dont tell me about how this game is not about gender i know. its impossible for me to see a robot character and Not think about gender#especially in this case where theyre so clearly gendered#but still they are almost exclusively referred to as units and replikas and model names#i think falke is the one who actually gets she pronouns in reports? and most of it is by adler who is also a replika#anyway i think its very fun how all these robots are so clearly gendered but also not at the same time#which to me makes the concept of elster choosing to think of herself as a woman also very trans#she is made to look like one she is not meant to Be one#and its hard to say she would think of this bc we rarely get elster think of herself at all#theres two instances i can think of where she refers to herself#txt#signalis#yes u can use it pronouns in a normal not derogatory way but u know thats what was intended in the game

just wanted to let you know that your art changed something in my brain chemistry. i love how you design the bad kids, especially riz. it makes me love him even more 😭😭
thank u! fantasy high as a series banks a lot on heightening and exaggerations, and trying to work with that general sensibility while translating the designs into something I have fun drawing has been nice to do :]
#not art#its kinda funny to approach fh with like. a bg of shounen/gag manga? wild how much genres can differ when targeting the same demographic#tho I havent read shounen in a While lmao. the last series I picked up was uhhh tetsugaku letra#its very Gender even though I dont think it? aimed to be? it talks a Lot abt performance and failing social expectations#and I think if you wanna talk about stuff like that you kinda eventually stumble into Gender Stuff#well. to be fair the main character literally picks up and chooses to dance with a pair of women's flamenco shoes#so maybe I was just being pessimistic abt the series not aiming to talk abt transgenderism lmao#anyways I did also pick that up and then realized as I read it that wow. I have Fully outgrown this genre#which is fair bc I'm almost a decade out from being a teen. I have the privilege to grow up and get a bird eyes view of childhood#but yeah. its kinda fun to see how teen movie archetypes and shounen archetypes differ so much#and finding the thread of connection between all that#but very specifically abt riz. listen. listen I was a meitantei conan acolyte for Years (am now a hater lmao)#I have an unfortunate affinity for detectives. riz gukgak is a bullet with my name on it. laser targeted#and also this season he gets a pair of glasses which is one of the only objects I can fully draw from memory. u can probably notice#from how I draw them lmao#I think I have a sketch of his previous looks somewhere in here... I gotta look for that

SHAVING JOB FINALLY DONE 👍🏻 and by that I mean ive banned myself from my scissors until tonight because otherwise I'll keep fucking w my beard and whittle it down to nothing:/ this cause was not helped by me pulling out the clippers for the first time in months and having to get used to those again and I got maybe overzealous but ehe ^_^ now I'm like. Normal man beard length I think. Instsad of 'trans guy desperately holding onto any and all beard no matter how long or disheveled' length.
#stuck to the neckbeard n sideburns i tried giving em a bit of shape#so theres some bits i removed like completely which is a big move#also i used only the bare clippers n i hope thats satisfactory bcos otherwise ill have to learn how to shave :/#which tbh would b very gender and i do have a razor banging about i think. but :/#left my chin hairs and such mostly alone bcos i want them to be longer theyre novel + nicer than neckbeard#but i did have to trim a couple down :(#all in all this was a good idea its a new fun look and i actually get a look at whats going on w my beard instead of Being Ambiguous

It's pretty hillarious when I have to use my dead name for medical settings or whatnot and Alfie is with me bc we're both gnc enough that like. 80% of the time people assume they're the feminine one
#which i mean comparitively they are lmao#theyre on estrogen and i have pcos so like. if im binding i DO look more masc than them#very fun gender times for both of us but always kind of funny when i have to be like. haha yeah no thats me (:#they usually dont ask me to come with them for medical stuff but same thing has happened with like#picking up parcels in their deadname and people assume its me#something something proof that gender esentialism is bullshit and the average person CANNOT tell trans from cis unless its glaringly obvious

you know i hate to assign morality to gendered leagues but tbh atp is good because its bad and wta is good because its good
#this was part of a larger post about how bad atp clay szn was but it was fun#while in contrast wta gave us some of the best matches of the year during clay szn#but honestly i think its summed up nicely here#like i hate to be girls rule boys drool because like i always say womens sports over mens isnt a morally superior act necessarily#but also. clay season does very much do this#tennis#also like 15 mins ago i almost made a post saying atp has hilarity but relatively little drama#whereas wta had more drama less hilarity#which. eh. that sort of reinforces some gender roles that i dislike. but it does lead into this i suppose

i just realized that breivarden might be like. the only canon* aro/allo** ship i know of
#* - sure they don't like. define their relationship but look me in the eyes and tell me it isn't canonically *something* by Mercy#** - sure breq never goes “i am aromantic” but says that ships don't desire romantic partners and sticks to that. thats pretty aro to me#actually this has me thinking about how in the Radch orientation really only exists in terms of aspec and allo#which like isnt a revelation or anything its the logical conclusion of not having a social gender#but its still such a foreign concept to me#that its fun to think about#anyway my point was that it being an aro/allo relationship is actually very important to the way it develops#seivarden knowing that there are things that she wants that breq cant give even besides sex. and she never acts like thats wrong of breq.#(its also important that its ace/allo but that is slightly more common to see so im not gonna go into that)#my posts#sam reads imprad

I'm really realizing that my biggest ick in books is when man / woman / any gendered term is replaced with "male" and "female". Typically I see it used in romances with non human characters but like. Are you really dedicating yourself to "yes these angels/vampires/fairies/were-whatevers have a sexual binary that humans TOTALLY have but dont call them man or woman! bc they're not human!"
#the book i just read had all of these in story btw#they NEVER want to have any fun with it its just sexism#its very 'noooo theres no trans or intersex people here- yea theres gay people but NOT LIKE THAT'#vibes wise to me#completely Trying to sidestep gender and then slamming face first into the idea that sex is a binary#i tried mentally replacing male / female with 'normal' gendered terms and it did make the text feel less weird#which is such a shame for the book i was just reading - i think it had a solid story aside from that weirdness#yea the power of love and friendship is all powerful HOWEVER#im not shocked when other books do it bc its pretty explicitly straight to start with - but when authors are trying to shake stuff up -#-with gay characters it comes off as. lets say disingenuous at best#its shitty as a trans person bc theyre trying to dodge the gender convo but worse to see people hammer down on sex binaries#we have four chromosomes & intersex people are as common as redheads in the us#this isnt a hard concept for a novelist to wrap their head around imo#slipspeaks

Having a lot of gender feelings today.
#gender is real but also gender is fake#how fucked up is it that a fem person and a masc person can do the same makeup and on one it isnt notable and on the other its *gasp* drag!#doubly fun when its the same person#also drag is wonderful and also men can wear makeup without it being drag and they look fantastic#also I'm not a man but if i was it would still be great#subverting expectations is one of my favorite things. being at the point where its hard to tell which expectations I'm subverting is peak#i feel like I've met a lot of gender goals and I'm very pleased#nonbinary

Everyone’s all “nonbinary is included in every sexuality” until a nonbinary person who is on hormones prefers men who like men and women who like women and all of a sudden I’m being problematic and offensive to…….. well everyone I guess
#WhoGive A Rats Ass#like genuinely why the fuck does anyone care omg why is this a big deal#I’m not being offensive to other transmascs by fucking lesbians like i never said you all need to or you all should or you all want to#it’s MY LIFE….. how is my very personal sex and love life affecting every transmasc in the world ITS NOT….#it’s your problem for seeing me as a binary trans guy when I’m not I just am on t and use he/him pronouns. like whatever bro omg#like ok. it’s MY OWN CHOICE that I would fuck a lesbian im ok with that. that’s just me! the ftm reading this is not involved.#im not going around fucking parading that transmascs should fuck lesbians this is literally just my personal life and choices#and if lesbians want me and gay guys want me (which they both do) THATS FUN FOR ME AND I LIKE IT BECAUSE IM NOT A BINARY TRANS PERSON….#anyways yeah so I’m bisexual but not in the traditional sense. just let me live I’m so sick of reading posts bashing people like me#sorry that I have the lived experience of being a dyke and I’m into dykes who are into dykes.#sorry that I’m also kind of attracted to men but only men who will acknowledge and respect and be attracted to my masculinity.#everyone wants to support gender fluidity and sexuality fluidity until someone is actually being fluid lmfao like honestly!!!

Also Moe gender notes/lore:
It has a more masc leaning identity, and typically uses masculine language/titles but more like. For fun. Like the way you say "SIR." at a misbehaving cat. It will also call itself a man ESP if it's funny. Also I've been toying w it liking the terms "boyfriend"/"boytoy" for itself, which is a very funny combination w Alfonse (in my mind) preferring the term "partner" (broadly, but also esp for himself). So like, Moe calling Alfonse "My partner" and Alfonse, On Occasion, ESPP if the situation calls for it, calling Moe "My boyfriend" (still, partner is the preferred term across the board for both of them -- but if we need to clear up the air...)
BUT ALSO! There are at least, so far, Two cases where Moe prefers feminine titles/language!
One was initially a misunderstanding but it ultimately ended up preferring the term anyway, with "cleric" (one comic idea is to resolve this castle dialogue):
LIBRA.... I WOULD NEVER .......... (Moe didn't realize "cleric" was a femme-gendered term, and had already been using it for itself for a while at this point.)
The other title is "seamstress"! That one is a case of Knowing the genderedness of it, but deciding to use it in a nonconforming way (which is eventually how "cleric" ended up). To me Moe uses these in the same vein as a drag queen, if that makes sense!
#moe tag#trying to explore gender nonconformity when the chara in question IS genderqueer/nb is VERY fun and interesting!#like esppp as a binary gnc transguy. it's been so interesting to try and adapt this in a way that still feels true to moe and its identity#and ofc there is the baphomet inspo which is a balance of all things... esp 'male and female'#which. has also been interesting to adapt. bc no matter what i do have a solid boundary i can't cross#when it comes to a chara that no matter how funky i get w it. is still ultimately a reflection of myself#i have another silly comic idea too of moe further explaining its identity where it calls itself a man for a joke#to be met w 'i thought you were genderless? neither?' where it explains the title thing essentially#and is asked (in good faith) 'are you ever a woman?' and it says#'under no circumstances am i ever a woman.' (tone/expression shift) 'i believe in their beliefs though!'#it's just been such a cool avenue to explore things i typically wouldn't (if i were only thinking of myself)#and the separation IS so important. bc it helps so much. in exploring things i typically Couldn't.#but also i do still have those hard boundaries. and that's interesting too#i love you moe..... blorbo from my mind.............
