🔥 ummmm fallout. :]

I don't talk to fallout fans bc a lot of them are scary so idk how unpopular of an opinion this is but ummm the 1st game is the best one. Sorry. I know the isometric games get way overshadowed by their successors mostly because of age and new vegas is one of the best games to ever grace this planet, but the 1st one is just such a good tone setter for the series, and although 2 really gives it the flavor of silliness we know today, I think the 1st one is just like. Better. Like I personally care more about the vault you come from over the village and the dialogue is a little more grounded.

New vegas arguably is just objectively a better game because of course the tech was better and they could really flesh the characters out more that we see, like arcade and Veronica and lily, vs Ian who shoots you in the dick every other combat encounter bc the mechanics were janky and you don't know anything about him other than he's traveled around the wasteland and is a gun for hire. You get some flavor text in the hub and junk town and things and the same goes for other companions but honestly I think like lily is more fleshed out than all the original companions combined. But all that aside it's just much more personal than new vegas; you're trying to save your home and you get swept up into trying to save the wasteland you were just thrust into, vs new vegas where you're you're Different kind of Some Guy who just kind of showed up. Which is fine it works, and the differences of why these two set up work is an entirely different discussion, but yea.

I think the first one is just the first step in a series that would eventually become what it is today(for better or for worse) and just is The Best one to me...i know the mechanics are well Bad and the visuals aren't as sharp but it presents you with a world that I personally want to see so so much more of and it's a really good hook to the entire series. The masters monologue if you get the ending where you talk him out of his army plus the overseer kicking you out when you're finally ready to go home; I'm not sure nv ever spurred that much of an emotional reaction from me. I care about the world, and the characters, and the people, but it just doesn't feel quite as intimate to me as the first one.

Next Shabbat, as part of the weekend of commemoration/memorial for October 7th, we are reading out the names of every person killed that day in Israel during the shul service. I have been asked to be one of the readers. We each get 100 names (roughly) and it's going to overwhelming, I already know that. We are being sent the names in advance so we can prepare, both from a pronunciation perspective but also mentally. It will likely take over an hour to read all of the names.

I don't like thinking about how fundamentally different I am as a person and my worldview is since this time last year. This time a year ago, I was chatting to one of my closest friends before she travelled to Jerusalem for her brother's wedding and promptly found herself, her entire family including her 7 month pregnant sister in the middle of a warzone.

While people I know were cheering on the massacre, I was barely sleeping as I tried to help organise getting my friend and her family out to safety while her and her family sat in bomb shelters discussing how they would have to leave behind the pregnant sister if they had to run as someone had to survive to look after her first child. We are lucky that they were in a position to get out. In Jerusalem, they were relatively protected from what happened in the south and the missiles from Hezbollah in the north. The UK government were 0 help, they did absolutely nothing to help get their citizens home.

I will not be surprised if all of us reading next week are standing in front of our congregation in tears while we read. The human brain is not designed to comprehend death on the levels we have seen in the past year and reading names will make it all the more real. I honestly think it will likely be one of the hardest things I will have done in a long time. A name makes a number into a person.

I know that to do the same with all of the innocent Palestinians who have died would take far longer and that they too are also victims of Hamas' actions on October 7th 2023 but this will be a day of mourning for our Jewish brethren and the non-Jews killed by Hamas for the crime of existing in Israel because they were all victims of the same bone deep hatred that runs through the veins of Hamas.

We will not forget them.

all I knew going in was that the movie was called "Godzilla Minus One" and I was like "haha you mean there's no Godzilla in this? less than one Godzilla?" wrong, there was indeed a Godzilla. 11/10 movie

here’s my silly takes on this photo because honestly it has moved me… so much layers to dissect, so much meaning—i just can’t help but examine.

of course first, the logo and the rain streaks. is it tears or blood? is it both? it can be interpreted as the tears that were shed for the pain ferrari has caused him, cause the people but it can also be blood.

ill never stop bringing up how strikingly red ferrari is, how its colors constanly draw me to compare it to something like bloodshed and sacrifice. the building being that color just makes the streams of water look like dripping blood. does he even know where his own pain stops and where the rest begins? the many crushed dreams of the ferrari drivers of the past haunts him, screaming at him as a warning for what his future will inevitably be. so much blood has been shed to make ferrari this color, so much crushed dreams. and charles was no exception.

the streams eventually fall down onto him. onto his shoulders, another part of the legacy he carries. the weight of the past watching on him to save this crumbling team — and it drowns him. he’s halfway into the buildimg, but he’s still out. is he an outsider? is he leaving? is ferrari a home he desperately wants to get into, or one he desperately wants to leave? its like hes trying to get in (or maybe trying to leave) and is just frozen at the doorstep in indecision.

its sad to me, holding onto something that he’s dreamed of for decades and being left with nothing but crushed dreams and bloodied hands. and he still pushes on and tries to change the prophecy. the predestined — is his destiny to save the team, or is it to be cut whole and sacrificed just like all the others before him?
