The erasure of Andi Mack makes me so sad as someone who watched it as it was airing. I understand the show had issues regarding a Certain Actor, but it still makes me really sad for the people who worked on it. And because the show is such a gem. I want to write about Andi Mack in general one day, but because it's pride month I want to briefly talk about the show through that lens specifically.

Firstly, Andi Mack has so many episodes missing on Disney+ AND DisneyNow that it would be impossible to try to watch the series in full by using any of these apps. Until recently, DisneyNow had completely removed Andi Mack from its app, and put it back on with only an incomplete season three and without any of the games that were there originally (like Andi's Texts). This, I'm assuming, has to do with that Certain Actor, but the missing episodes has also made including Cyrus in any pride posts or collections harder than it should be (more on that in a second).

On Disney+, there is a "Pride Collection" which does not include anything Andi Mack related despite Cyrus being the first openly gay main character on Disney Channel. His coming out scenes (plural because of the individual scenes with Buffy, Andi and then Jonah) were extremely prominent not only to real people, but also to Cyrus' character as a whole. Two out of the three episodes where Cyrus comes out - "Hey, Who Wants Pizza?" (season 2, episode 1) | "Cyrus' Bash-Mitzvah!" (season 2, episode 13) | "One in a Minyan" (season 3, episode 11) - are not even available on Disney+, nor are any of them on DisneyNow (sidebar, Andi Mack isn't featured on DisneyNow 's pride section either). What's even more frustrating is that the series finale, "We Were Here", where Cyrus and TJ are confirmed to have mutual feelings for each other, are available on both Disney+ AND DisneyNow, yet it does not feature on either app's pride sections. Cyrus being gay wasn't just implied, he literally says the words "I'm gay" the third time he comes out and the second time he clearly says he has a crush on Jonah. It's not easy to overlook him as gay, and as a character who should be included in those pride collections, so his omission is clearly deliberate.

Even if the coming out episodes weren't featured, at the very least, any episode with Cyrus and TJ after they became friends should count; episodes like "For the Last Time", "The Cake That Takes the Cake", "Mount Rushmore or Less", "Something to Talk A-Boot" and of course the series finale. Surprising no one, only three of the Tyrus episodes I listed (and there are more) are actually on Disney+. I mean, they included a Miraculous episode in the Disney+ "Pride Episodes" collection that had the most minute blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene of Alec in a wig, so why not include any episode at all with TJ and Cyrus? Idk the whole thing is just very frustrating for so many reasons.

Take A Chance On Me extras

since this fic is focused primarily on mittsie i decided i wanted to reveal a little bit about whats going on with the other poets!! most if not all of them will be mentioned in passing, one of them may or may not be making a phone call cameo 👀

As mentioned in the first chapter Charlie is married to Ginny Danburry. They live in Massachusetts. They keep in regular contact with Pitts, Todd, and Knox. They try to contact Meeks but he avoids a lot of their attempts. Charlie works in banking and Ginny is is an actress. Around the time of the first chapter of take a chance they've been married nearly two years and have been trying for a baby almost as long. (heavily inspired by @graceofgondor's charginny series (GO READ IT. GO READ IT. GO READ IT.)

Todd is a novelist! As mentioned in the second chapter he has just release a book, making it his third. He has written 2 fiction novels and released a poetry collection. The book mentioned in the chapter is a book he's been working on since he graduated. It is a dramatized (not that it needs it) retelling of the events that happen in the movie. Its dedicated to Neil and Mr Keating. Todd is living in new york and loves going to broadway shows and poetry reading. His newest book is a New York Times Best Seller. He still exchanges letters with Mr Keating today.

Knox ended up becoming a lawyer. Sorry Knox x Chris nation, they did not stay together, they broke up shortly after graduation. He still lives in Vermont but quite far from his parents. He settled down with a woman he met in university. They got married quite quickly and have 3 boys now.

Cameron originally went to school for business but changed his major and ended up becoming a history teacher (NOT AT WELTON HOLY SHIT). He felt a lot of regret for his actions in high school that he eventually worked up the courage to send Keating a letter apologizing. (he received one back assuring him that he only did what he thought was right, and he should relieve himself of guilt as everything worked out the best it could have.) Keating got him in contact with Todd and now they speak regularly. He lives quietly and alone Pennsylvania, he has no interesting getting married or having kids (gay ace cam realness). He has a pair of doves and they are his pride and joy in life.

And a little extra / profiles for our main guys.

Pitts went to Yale and became an architect. He's not designing on the level he would like to be but he's only 30 and willing to be patient. He never left New Haven (CT) after graduating. He has a cat named Marie (sweet little baby angel) named after Marie Curie. He has been in love with Meeks since early high school but refuses to tell him for fear of ruining their relationship. Charlie desperately wants him to confess. He attempted to date women for a few years before admitting to himself that it would never work and has been on his own since.

Meeks went to Stanford for engineering. He now lives in Washington and works in a managerial position, keeping him extremely busy. Since graduating he never seems to keep a girlfriend for longer than two months. He only realized he was in love with Pitts a few years ago and threw himself headlong into work and women to ignore it. He only calls Pitts as much as strictly possible to maintain the friendship and not let it go any deeper. He distances himself from the rest of the poets because they always try to ask about or tell him how Pitts is.

Pink Pony Club Episode-911

Thanks to @speaknowbuckley I gained the motivation to finish this plot idea for what I picture for a queer central episode (Gay club, because its LA and I am desperate for ABC to allow us to see that side of the city!)  for 9-1-1!  (Also im back from vacation yay!)

Title: The Pink Pony Club (Please know that its been a Chappell Summer for me truly) 

Main Plot/Episode Dynamic:  

I see this following a bit after Bucks initial coming out as Bi (I initially had this before he actually was confirmed bi so I saw him coming out alone, but I can still see this with the buck/tommy coming out as well!). Takes place during pride month and Hen is watching as Buck is excited for his first pride month as not and ally™. I see her wanting to take Buck out with her and Karen to the bars to celebrate, and of course Chim and Eddie may have overheard and become jealous to join (letting them all come along for support and just fun). Overall its an episode that explore a lot. Buck feeling scared to feel accepted into the queer community finally, that maybe he isn't queer enough (possibly exploring Bi hatred within the community) (for me bi hatred and eraser is something that I would love to see touched upon especially now with how people have been reacting to bi characters becoming a norm) and scared to head out to the bars. But having a Buck and Hen brother sister scene where she convinces him that he should celebrate and love himself. Eventually planning outfits together. I see buck finally letting go as he walks into the first bar. People dancing around without a care, queens, men, women. Standing on the floor and letting the music mute his racing mind, finally letting himself sway to the music with a content happiness. Hen and Karen smiling proudly as they join in.  

Oh but don't think this whole story is just on Buck and Hen. I love a queer Eddie arch and if I was a writer for ABC this would be the first fucking stone cast for this arch. Eddie walking into that bar initially without any worry. He was an ally and doing this for his best friends, no worries there. Why would he be? He’s straight... right? But why as he's watching buck dance with men does he have this pain in his chest. Or seeing other men dance together with such joy and ease. Why as he sips and chats with a drag queen at the bar does he feel the most like he’s at ease and belongs somewhere than ever before? Why does the episode end with Eddie sneaking off back to the very same bar the next night without the rest of the 118 as a soft melody of pink pony club plays, a smile etching across his face as the lights over cast his face (I NNEEEDDD). 

Oh and Chim, having a fucking blast as per usual with Maddie.  

Songs Used/When they would be used: 

9-1-1's sound track to me at least has always been phenomenal for storytelling and setting the mood. So for an actual pride episode like this I would want some good bangers (I made a playlist that I may post later lol)

Possible Emergencies: 

I would love for the conversation of Buck wanting/starting to look into queer culture and history after coming out to be shown on a call at a drag show/club. The same club that the 1(gay)teen shows up to later in the episode. Something about the dimensions of how certain heels are made for drag performers or how thick costumes (tights, tucks, etc.) can be and how that queen or queens ended up in that situation.  

A pride parade incident? (I wrote a possible scenario where there is one with Take me to Church over it and gods let me be a writer, PS I don't think I'm a good writer at all lol)

I wanted to make this post earlier this month but got caught up in modding shenanigans, as per usual~

I'm a queer man myself, but I do not claim to know everything about queerness and being queer, everyone experience the game and interpret the characters differently 🤲 This is only my opinions, based off canon game events, clues, hints, as well as developpers's tweets, streams, files datamining etc etc Please do not see this thread as an attack, or as something invalidating! I'm more than curious to heard what you think about my personal analyses, if you agree, if you don't, and why! If you think other characters also display hints of queerness I'd love to hear it too! 💙

I'll mainly paste screenshots of what I already said on my twitter thread, but I might add some things there and there!

Damn I was kinda pissed off back then HGHFHGF but yeah, this is also the reason I won't ever make any straight or super straight flags I do not headcanon Delamain as Asexual, as there isn't any confirmation anywhere that he's interest in that kind of interaction or not, but I'll come back to him later!

Goro being canonly Queer is often missed, and this surprises me, considering he's one of the popular character! He is interested (or not) equally in both Fem and Masc V, giving he's replying to them the exact same ways! This isn't something done randomly by the devs :)

As said in the tweet, there isn't any direct and clear evidence of Mitch and Scorpion being a couple! Their relationship is heavily queer coded and queer people are more easily picking up on it than non-queer peoeple (and that's normal) Gay men have called their male partner Friend, Best friend and Brother through history maaaany many time, and that's part of my interpretation of their relationship too, especially giving they're both veterans who fought in the same war. The poem Mitch wrotes during "I'll Fly Away" (heavily implied) is romantic and gay coded, the gay novel in Mitch's tent (confirmed to be on purpose) is what we call environnemental story telling, it's subtle but adds to a character's backstory and lore! As for the datamining, I found a Mitch awkwardly explaining to V that no, Saul doesn't have any say in whatever he's doing with Scorpion stuff "because.... because... eh, that's just family stuff"

Note on Delamain here because I've heard it even caused some drama here on Tumblr that I said that? He uses He/Him to describe himself, the Main Entity, but multiples of his splites entities uses She/Her, meaning he's literally Non-Binary in how his entity is formed (I find it really cool for an AI ngl ngl) However if my headcanon offended anyone, I apologize! and I'd love to hear others interpretation :3

There isn't any open and visible MLM gay couple in Cyberpunk 2077! Bouncing off ElvenBeard's amazing analyses and thoughts on Kerry's sexuality, he can be seen as Bisexual (confirmed by RTAL themselves) and Homosexual (confirmed by the devs before and after the game released) he can be Both and Both are correct depending on how you view his character and how he grew from his past relationship (Bisexual with a masc preference, Bisexual who have to heal from his marriage, Gay man who realized his sexuality later after a wonky marriage, etc)

The whole "Responsability=Wife" Takemura take angers me to no end, taking its roots in heteronormativity- We see Goro care for his job above all else, to me that's what his "responsability" is and always was; his job

Nothing more to add here- Jackie's only relationship we see in game is with Misty, this doesn't confirm nor deny anything! (However with how he react to V pushing him, lip-bitting and all regardless of gender, I can totally see him as being queer)

AND That's about it!

It was interesting to dig into that thread last year and thought I'd share that here, as a refresher that Johnny is Bi, Takemura too, and smaller characters like Mitch and Evelynn still have clear hints of queerness to them ✨

I really like how CP77 touches on queerness, it feels realistic, it doesn't feel forced; which, sadly, create this problem of "UH?? This is pure LIES" if a character's sexuality is not splattered in your face, which then create the "Ugh why does it have to be forced down our throat" complains

Something something, lesson here is that people will always complain about queerness, be it loud, be it subtle, so fuck it! Scream it, go apeshit over small details, over-analyse everything cause chances are: this is intentional!

Pride Month Watch: His

I'm currently going through my Pride Month Watch List.

I've been meaning to watch this for months, especially after seeing Miyazawa Hio in Egoist at the end of last year. I know he has one of the main roles. Other than that, I don't know much, which is how I like it.

Let's dive in!

So, it starts with a breakup. Interesting.

Oh, shit, his ex is back and he has a daughter.

Of course, there's a village granny who sees and hears everything, lol.

So, it seems like the ex is practically moving in without telling the house owner (this is getting complicated to explain when I don't know/can't remember their names... lol). And every time he asks about what the ex and his daughter are planning to do now as he's getting a divorce, the ex just avoids the topic. Fishy...

Okay, so the ex is called Nagisa. And the guy he practically moved in with is called Shun.

I'm sensing that Nagisa's sexuality is going to be a problem in the divorce. Will his soon-to-be ex-wife use it against him to say he's not a "suitable" dad (whatever that means)? I have a feeling this will get ugly.

"Meeting someone and being influenced by them is one of life's greatest treasures." I loved that.

Damn, this divorce will get really ugly, won't it? That scene with Nagisa and his soon-to-be ex-wife was explosive.

Excuse me?! The mom was drunk and told her kid (Sora) to shut up and go away when Sora said she was hungry. This film is not making a good case for the mom. Sora even ran away from her...

Damn, Sora just outed her dad and Shun to the whole village. Obviously, you can't blame her. She's only 6.

I love how Japanese QLs use silence (I'm not sure if it's a general thing in films/series from Japan). Sometimes there's no (or very little) dialogue and no music, just the natural sounds, and it's still the most compelling scene I've ever watched. I love it.

I love how the old man (Ogata) tells Shun that everyone has a right to love whom they love. It's not often I've seen older men with this perspective in films/shows (or in real life).

The way all the villagers accepted that Shun was gay when he stood up in front of everyone and poured his heart out made me teary-eyed (which is rare because I'm an ice queen, lol). But it was so beautiful to see.

The trial (or whatever to call it) is making me super uncomfortable. The soon-to-be ex-wife's lawyer is clearly doing his job and doing it to the best of his ability, but I still want to punch him in the face, lol.

I respect Nagisa for saying what he did in that courtroom. This was never about who would win the custody battle. It was about how to mend a broken family and do what was best for all three of them (Sora and both her parents). That's why I loved the ending scene where all three of them and Shun could spend drama-free time together.

Overall, I loved this film. It tugged at my heartstrings. It had its bitter and its sweet moments. I would say it's one of my top QL films from Japan. I'm really glad I finally watched it.

WARNING: most, if not all of the books on this list are horror, and as such they feature sensitive topics. Please keep that in mind make sure to read content warnings before reading!

★ The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

Of course I have to start off with my all time favorite! This novel series has: bisexual, mlm and trans masculine(implied) representation. There is a wlw relationship mentioned, however it’s only mentioned in the background and has no large parts.

★ Lost Souls + Stay Awake by Poppy Z Brite (now called William Joseph Martin)

Lost Souls is quite a dark book, with a focus on horror rather than lgbtq relationships/experiences, and as such I recommend reading the content warnings before starting this book! That being said, the novel Lost Souls, and the short story Stay Awake both show mlm representation, with the short story making Ghost and Steve’s relationship it’s focus. The author is also a trans man, and while there are no explicitly trans characters, his struggles with gender can be seen in the way he writes especially the character of Ann. Once again, please read content warnings before reading these works.

★ First Kill by V.E. Schwab from the Vampires Never Get Old collection

This short story is about a wlw relationship, and follows the forbidden attraction between Calliope and Juliette, a vampire hunter and a vampire. I honestly wish this was a lot longer, Schwab of course doesn’t disappoint with her writing, as the story is easy to read and it leaves the reader wanting for more.

★ Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu

A list about queer vampire books would not be complete without mentioning the iconic lesbian story of Carmilla and Laura. This novella is a must read for all vampire lovers! While Carmilla was written in the 1800s, its description of a lesbian relationship, as well as its exploration of the themes of loneliness and feeling like an outsider was ahead of its time, accompanied by beautiful writing and a story that will stay with you for a long time.

★ Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco

This fantasy horror novel features a polyamorous relationship, along with a storyline full of politics and suspense which makes it an overall fun read. Compared to the other books on this list, this story doesn’t have a particularly beautiful writing, neither is it a literary masterpiece, but the novel is entertaining regardless, the characters are likable, and the story is something that you can come back to and still enjoy on a second or third read.

This YA novel is a fun read for anyone looking for a story that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The main character is gay, and there are elements of romance between him and a vampire.

The target boycott by conservatives is easily one of the stupidest things i’ve seen in my lifetime. Because the thing is, they’re just fucking wrong. I went on twitter to do some research for a video on me and my friends yt channel and i was absolutely disgusted by what i saw. I’ll get into the horrific things that people have said later but first I wanna touch on one of the main points that conservatives are mad about.

I see so many people angry that there are onesies and children’s clothes in the pride collection when they are completely misunderstanding the purpose of them. Yes there are queer children, and yes those children probably feel seen when they find kids size pride merch but if you actually looked at target online you’d see that most of the kids pride merch also has adult components and that most of the photos for the kids merch feature families. pride onesies aren’t forcing a baby to be gay, it’s for queer parents who want their baby to be cool and accepting. the target website doesn’t even have a kids pride collection, only adult clothing and family outfits. this also goes for the idea that there are “tuck friendly” and “binding” swimsuit at target. Yes these are items that are in the target pride collection but they are in no way for children. they don’t even sell children’s pride swimsuits. the entirety of the conservative videos that claim that they found tucking swimsuits in the kids section are either staged or are just because someone took a swimsuit off the rack and then placed it back on a different rack. It is idiotic to claim that any of this is making your kids gay, especially when your children don’t have to wear pride merch. After a quick look into targets regular children’s section online, there are over 14,000 results for “kids rainbow clothing”. Would you like target to pull 14,000 items from its inventory just because it has rainbows on it?

The other response from conservatives that i’ve seen to this years pride collection is violence and harassment. I was on twitter for five minutes and i saw 6 videos of people asking target employees if they like satan or if they support to woke lgbt agenda. that’s 1.2 videos per minute that i was on twitter where someone was made to feel unsafe. Im sure anyone who’s been following this boycott has seen the guy who said he would “hunt” queer people and who destroyed a pride display in target. The sad truth is that queer people are not safe in target during this pride month and queer people may not even be safe celebrating pride openly this year.

This is going to turn into a little bit of a safety psa but please if you are going to buy target pride items either order them online or bring someone to the store with you as a witness to any harassment or violence you may face. Stay strong and do not let any of these dipshits get you down. I love all of you silly queer and i promise i’ll do my best to keep you safe

What Pride Means to Me

Step into the wayback machine with me for a moment.

The year is 1995. It’s the middle of summer. I am sitting in a movie theater with my best friend, Jennie, and we are watching one of the most popular films of that year, Mel Gibson’s Braveheart. <I thought you were going to write about Pride, you say? Give me a moment.>

Now, this is an entertaining film, made with obvious passion. It has a moving story and great performances. Its main villain is the English King, Edward I, played by Patrick McGoohan. Amidst all the major and minor characters is the character of Edward’s son, Prince Edward. As a prince, he’s not living up to his father’s expectations. And, though it’s ever really stated on screen, one of the reasons for this is he’s always in the company of his best friend, who is obviously also his gay lover.

The prince and his lover are mewling and foppish, presented without any redeeming qualities. The lover encourages the prince to stick up for himself against his father, and this all comes to a head in one scene in the middle of the film, where Edward is commanding the prince to do something, the prince protests, the lover says something cutting to the king, and the King grabs the lover and throws him out of the nearest window, to his death.

In the film, this moment is played entirely for laughs. And it got a big laugh from the audience I was sitting in. And in all the commentary this film has garnered over the years, I’ve not seen one other person mention this scene, let alone how problematic it is.

Now, clearly Edward II is the villain in this movie. It’s not like the main hero did this. But still, it doesn’t even seem to be added by the narrative to the list of Edward’s crimes. Indeed, the audience sympathizes with his frustration, and supports this casual murder. The prince is given very little further space in the story, merely doing what his father wants the rest of the film, his trauma unremarked upon.

I think I even laughed at this scene the first time that I saw it, because it’s presented as a moment of physical comedy. But I’ve thought about this scene a lot over the years, obviously, since it’s coming up in a blog post 28 years later.

This kind of thing was common in the 90’s. If gay people existed in media at all, we were disposable. The first victims of a murderer. Films that explored our lives focused mainly on the traumatic parts, and usually had one or more characters dying of AIDS (Philadelphia, I’m looking at you).

Now, I am including myself in that group now, but back then I would not have. While I was aware that I was attracted to guys, I kind of buried that deep within myself, sealing it up in a box that I did not dare open. It was my most shameful secret, one that I’d die to keep. And is it any wonder I didn’t want any part of it, given the examples I was seeing? I had no vision of happy gay people, living their truth. Now, I am aware that they existed. There have been gay writers and filmmakers putting out work for a long time. I’m not saying they didn’t exist. But they did not have a large audience or any kind of promotional budget and I, living in a small town in Indiana, was not aware of them.  

I think the first example of a non-traumatized gay character I came across was Matt in Melrose Place. And while Matt was canonically gay, and allowed to have a romantic life on screen, he was forced by the network sensors to say goodnight to every one of his dates with a firm handshake. So, it was technically representation, but was it really …?

I had never heard of Pride month back then, and I wouldn’t have done anything about it if I had. I didn’t say the words, “I am gay” to myself until I was 32. And it would take another 14 years for me to say it to another person.

So, Pride … I think I became aware of Pride around the time the gay marriage supreme court case went through. Now, I was out to myself at the time, but so deep in the closet that I could see Narnia. I was married to a woman and raising my children, and I thought ‘I might be gay, but it doesn’t mean anything because this is the life I chose for myself, and it would hurt too many people to disrupt.’ But when that decision came down, I felt so much joy. I knew why but didn’t say this to anyone. Because I knew it meant that someday, if circumstances changed, I would be able to live as my true self. I would not have to hide forever. And maybe that planted the seed that I wasn’t as trapped as I thought I was.

That year was the first time I noticed Pride going on. And I wanted to be part of it but couldn’t let myself. I wasn’t ready to blow apart my life yet. I wouldn’t be for another four years. So, Pride to me means standing up and being counted. If Braveheart were made today, I don’t think they would casually murder the prince’s lover and play it for laughs. There are popular network shows where gay people get to kiss their boyfriends and girlfriends on screen.  This even happens on so-called ‘family shows,’ (case in point my late, beloved Willow).  Queer people are allowed to live their lives in the open, and in most places in the west, are given equivalent rights to straight people.

Now, in recent years we have been reminded that there are still many people who would gladly throw us out the nearest window. But those people are a minority. A sizable, vocal minority, yes, but a minority. Most people have a ‘live and let live’ attitude toward queer people now. People I once thought would never accept me if I came out of the closet and started living an authentic life have embraced me and welcomed my boyfriend into the family. Being gay has gone from being my most shameful secret to being one of the things I like most about myself. I’ve gone from praying to be straight to realizing that if I had the chance to be straight, I wouldn’t take it. It may not be a choice for me, but if it were, I’d choose to be queer. There’s nothing wrong with me (at least if there is, it’s not this).

So, that’s what Pride means to me. We can be proud of who we are. We can be the people we were created to be, and love the people we were created to love, no matter what gender that person is. It’s a giant middle figure to the people who want to push us back into the closet. We’re Here! We’re Queer! Go Fuck yourself!

I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self that he would one day be able to accept every part of himself, and that it would be okay to be that person. He lived in pain for so many years, hating himself, afraid to even let himself be aware of what he really wanted. But those days are over, and we will stand together as a community and refuse to be forced back into those dark days. That’s what Pride is, a signal that we exist and are valid.

AND PROBABLY OTHER STUFF TOO! while i do hate twitter, it does actually hold a treasure: actual corrections disney wanted to gravity falls, and alex hershe's (creator and voice actor of like half the show) real time responses! (i wont put a link simply because twitter, but ill try to find a way to just download the vid and put it here later)

thats just the tip of the iceburg, lets go onto the owl house.

it had basically all gravity falls had (minus children having crushes on adults, specific scenes/characters/events/lines i pointed out (ie. giffany or bill), zombies, major boy obsessions [mabel level], and they have possession but not like how bill did to dipper) and more!

several fight scenes, having characters transform into monsters, showings of abusive behavior and its effects, and other things. so why was such a successful show cut down to 3 seasons? because luz was confirmed to like amity. disney couldnt handle that shit, and shot it down (it also probably HATED that raine was non-binary, lilith was aroace, willow was pan with 2 dads, hunter was bi, and luz was bi, plus any other confirmed things i never knew). if the "violence" in the battles was what got rid of it, then it would have went sooner. NOT JUST THAT, BUT TO JUSTIFY THEIR SHUTTING DOWN, THEY PROCEEDED TO POST SPOILERS FOR THE FINAL TO GET LESS WATCHING! why? so they didnt seem homophobic and they could go "oh look it has less traction now! see, thats why its gone!" (this i cannot find for sure information, i heard it from a very trusted friend who was/is also a big fan of the show) in the end.

not enough to convince you? lets talk about the "same sex" kiss in buzzlight year. while, yes, im glad for the representation, it was really only added AFTER disney was called out for only showing pride support during pride month. and who could forget the headlines? they fucking supported the "dont say gay" bill, then acted like it was some fucking accident. "maybe they didnt know what it was about?" the name itself was pretty fucking obvious.

also, there is gay erasure too! for a while, i solely believed it to just be suggested by past stories that the little mermaid was a gay love story, but with a quick search, several articles confirm it. the thing that really ticked me off? the name "ariel" is a unisex name (or it works for any gender), but the more feminine way is spelled "arielle" while the masculine way is "ariel", which got me thinking and surely enough, the author was gay, having written the story the same year his male crush was engaged with a woman. the story (as well as others hes written) have tones of unrequited longing love from what my research has told me. and yes, i did find an online copy of the original story by hans christian andersen, enjoy it!

theres probably other things i didnt cover, but disney has faked playing both sides for too long, when they always have stood on one with a fishing pole and a cardboard cutout of that rat on the hook, tossing it over here whenever they felt like it.

IT'S PRIDE MONTH BABY!!!!!!!! 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨🌈⚧️🌞🕊️🗣️🏳️‍🌈💃🏻🪩💪🏽🥵

Technically, where I'm from, "Pride Month" as a concept basically exists more between the second half of June and the first half of July (SO I'M NOT LATE THIS TIME, MMMKAY?). Our city's parade happens halfway through July every year, so I guess my definition of Pride Month is a little skewed.

Actually, we didn't get a parade last year. As is the case with a lot of other smaller cities, we're big enough to have an out and open, vibrant queer community, but small enough that seemingly everyone in it happens to have petty drama with each other. Hence, our local pride organization's executive board basically self-destructed and went kaput last year because of infighting.

But from the ashes of its implosion, a newer, hopefully better, and brilliantly flaming phoenix emerges and baby I am SO READY!!!! We also just got a new gay bar after basically having none in the city ever since 2020 *cough* happened.

But if I'm being honest, I feel like there's a lot of stress at this time of the year for a lot of gay/trans/bi/nb folks. Folks in the closet feel a greater pressure to come out. Rightwing nutjobs double down on their anti-Budlight campaigns or whatever the fuck they're on about this time around. Lonely gays gotta deal with watching all the happy gay couples being out and proud everywhere.

And of course, there's the """""discourse""""" every year, surrounding everything with the the same arguments over "kink at pride" to "straights frequenting gay bars" and basically every other beating-a-dead-horse topic that the social media algorithms push like crack to feed our brains' collective addictions to ragebait. Sometimes it can be as much of a headache as it is a good time for any of us, and the increasing corporatization and commodification of what was originally a very radical tradition in our community can be disheartening. It seems that we have been undergoing a reckoning with a fundamental shift in this community over the last decade, as our proximity to comfort through class, race, and perceived "queerness" has created two very different kinds of "pride".

But idk, this year I really wanna just focus on feeling those good pride vibes extra hard, and not worrying about all the drama for once (Don't get me wrong though - no cops at pride, just Florence and her sword). Things have been looking pretty up for me ever since I've fallen in love with the most wonderful boy in the world, and I want this year to be a gay ass celebration, dammit!!

And so, I've decided to focus on something that we can all agree on - the fact that gay pride anthems fucking slap!!! Every year, one of the main things I look forward to is going to venues that'll actually have a chance of playing some good fucking music!

So I thought, why the hell not? I've got a music blog I barely touch outside of the year-end list season. Let's do some funky little reviews about ✨ gay pride anthems ✨

Now, what you and I consider to be a ✨ gay pride anthem ✨ may be very different. In this informal and unranked list, I will obviously be including songs with explicitly LGBTQ+ themes and by LGBTQ+ artists, but I am also taking the liberty of covering songs that are either culturally or historically significant to the broader queer community, or personally significant to my own self-discovery journey as a gay man.

I'm also going to throw in a couple of songs that just kinda exude gayness, queerness, and transness as per my own "gay ass music" barometer. You are free to disagree with my selections on any of these reviews, but I should let you know in advance that if you do disagree then you are simply WRONG.

Okay, with that outta the way:

THE ARTIST

Kylie Minogue really needs no introduction. If you're gay, live in an English speaking country, and are older than like, 22(?) then it should go without saying that Kylie Minogue is one of the most beloved and celebrated of the many, many queer-ally pop divas of the last five or six decades.

Ms. Minogue really kind of is the platonic ideal of her archetype. Her music is bouncy, playful, sleek, passionate, and unafraid to go camp. The Australian queen of pop just seems to get us, in a way that never feels pandering or cynical.

Perhaps what is so particularly affective about her appeal is her ability to adapt and change her sound without ever really appearing as if she's trend-hopping. Every change in her career (at least, post-self-titled) feels organic, and she always seems to enjoy whatever it is that she's doing.

Compared and contrasted (and I apologize for doing this in advance) with the career arc of her most obvious (and much more famous) counterpart Madonna, I've never once gotten the feeling that Kylie phoned it in, or just did a new sound because other popstars were doing it.

She's managed to stay relatively down to earth and focused on making fun and memorable pop music, while Madonna frankly continues to dilute her artistry with weird takes, cynical career moves, and whatever this is.

I'll admit that, while I'm familiar with many of her singles, I've really only listened to Impossible Princess, Light Years, Fever, and DISCO as far as her LPs go. But what I have heard in full, I've always enjoyed, especially her punchy yet highly introspective Impossible Princess, which is one of the most underrated and totally left-field records to have ever dropped from an established name in the pop mainstream.

Today's cut is a more well-known remix of a song off of her 2000 LP Light Years, perhaps her funnest record, which I just listened to in full last week in preparation for writing this review. And by the way, I'm covering the remix because it's bigger, better, and gayer, so don't @ me if you prefer the album version mmmkay?

THE SONG AND WHY IT SLAPS

"Your Disco Needs You" is an unabashed, unashamed celebration of all things glorious and free. And no, I don't mean whatever crappy country you live in, F patriotism - I'm talking about the dancefloor at your local gay bar.

"Camp" is an understatement, and probably too obvious to describe it. No, this song is BRAZEN and FLAMING. It has no interest in being subtle; it is a fervent call-to-action. Your goddamn motherfucking disco needs you dammit! You have been officially conscripted to get off your ass and serve your dancefloor. Make haste, you gays!

Flashy euro-disco with triumphant marching band trumpets, horny big man military chants, gratuitously french-spoken bridges, and insanely well-executed key changes are always gonna get my stamp of approval.

But it is perhaps the nasally way she sings "YOUR DIS-KOH" as she chants along during the chorus that really just seals the deal. Forgive me, but she sounds so vaguely somewhere from mainland Europe - It immediately makes me think of one of the crossover successes during the golden age of disco, like "Yes Sir I Can Boogie" by Baccara or "Dancing Queen" by ABBA which is a gay disco BEHEMOTH in its own right.

Everything about this song is everything it needed to be, and it all comes together exactly the way it should. Credit goes to Kylie's larger than life presence, as well as kudos to the backing vocalist for their thundering command, and huge HUGE kudos to the producers for getting it to sound exactly like an updated version of what it pays homage to, down to the last beat.

And have you seen the music video?!? An army of Kylie Minogue clones marching in tights towards disco glory is the only military campaign I will ever gladly endorse.

According to Kylie herself, the song was apparently "too gay" and "too camp" for the label to release it as a single in the United Kingdom. I mean, come on, how fucking punk rock is that? "TOO GAY FOR ENGLAND" is a badge of honour that I'd readily have permanently tattooed on my forehead if I were ever the recipient of such a prestigious title.

Oh, and anyone who thinks this is wholly ironic needs to GTFO now. We are now several light years ahead of when broader Straight™ society suddenly and viciously turned on the great big, glossy old-school disco in the early 80s. We should all be able to understand by now that this is a love letter to everything that was dramatic and overly-extravagant about that era. And it's all the better for it.

WHY IT'S GAY

This is the first on the list, but definitely will not be the last, of a set of songs that are really just blunt and in-your-face with its production and manner of delivery. There is something among LGBTQ+ folks, particularly among drag queens, femme gay men, and men-attracted transfemmes, where being unapologetically bold with your personality and image is widely common and celebrated.

And it makes sense; spending so many years hiding who you are because of society's prejudice means that there is a whole stock-pile of self-expression that hasn't been given its proper outlet until one's coming out eventually happens. There's also the exhilarating thrill of recent liberation that makes you just want to flaunt your colours everywhere.

There is an especially potent emphasis in most cultures on performing masculinity "the correct way" and a strong disdain for those perceived to be "sissies". To be an out and proud feminine man or woman with XY chromosomes, one must be very bold. Or as black and queer NYC ballroom pioneer Junior Labeija once put it "it do take nerve" to be who you are when you are gay/bi/trans/etc.

That amount of nerve is often doubled when faced with the extra added challenges of being poor or belonging to a racial minority, which is why a lot of the boldest and most ground-breaking underground dance music (such as the origins of House music, or the aforementioned NYC ballroom scene) originates from predominately black and brown, lower-class queer communities.

Likewise, music that feels gay is not just dance music, but dance music that often feels bold and fearless. We celebrate and laugh in the face of prejudice and adversity. Dance music that plays to this striking, defiant confidence immediately sets off our "gay barometers" because it reflects how many of us feel inside when we are partying amongst ourselves.

Kylie just gets it. She may not be one of us per se, but she understands that radical, defiant confidence and boldness that is what really makes a legendary dancefloor banger for gay bars everywhere. And okay, something also has to be said for the chants. I dare you to listen to those burly, jovial voices and tell me you don't immediately conjur up the image of a rippling 80s leather daddy muscle stud with the handle bar mustache and bikers cap. They knew exactly what they were doing when they made this.

And so I rest my case. Tis gay, your honour.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go serve my country dancefloor.

I know scarabs supposed to be taking over my blog but I can’t shut up ever and only my friends ever send me asks for these months SO WAM BAM GET ATTACKED WITH MINECRAFT

When Scarab plays Minecraft with Nyxie he basically becomes her constant guard because of her loose focus and need to explore and not really think much on things other than “wow that looks cool, let’s dive into it!” or “hey, I can make a snowman and name him Buddy!” and Scarab swears she’s given him second hand anxiety that a mother has with her rowdy sons.

Scarab mentally calls himself her knight or guard and takes such stupid pride in it. Living out his medieval dreams. But he only says it mentally cause when Nyxie says it out loud it’s embarrassing and he gets all flustered cause she makes a big silly deal about it on purpose out of love.

Yes, he tried to defeat the Ender Dragon without thinking cause of his own cockiness. Despite the fact this was during his first go around in a Minecraft world with Prizz-bizz and Nyx. They blocked off the Ender Portal or trapped him with obsidian so he couldn’t go back and kill himself again from his own ego while they got supplies for him. He was very dead set on winning this and this was kind of the only way we could help him. You know how he is.

”I’m fine. I can handle this.” “No- dude! You need, like, a plan! More stuff, too.” “Yeah! I mean.. I don’t know what stuff, but stuff nonetheless!” “I can handle this.”

Prismo actually knows the average knowledge of the ins and outs of Minecraft. Some casual stuff, and a few rarer stuff. He mainly mines. Nyxie knows the most basic of basics and nothing complex, like building a snow/iron golem or how a simple starter house is set up. She mainly goes out exploring. Scarab doesn’t know the game at ALL, so he’s either following one or the other and learning things along the way. Bro’s just saying “Interesting..” every few minutes.

Prismo and Nyxie are the main influences of why they have a whole backyard for snowmen and other tame-able critters. They give Scarab big sad eyes to convince him to bring another, and despite his attempt at rules and strictness, he loses anyways. They either sneak it in and get in trouble later or he cracks.

”… (slow turn, suspicious squint at them) ..tell me why I just heard a cat, you two.” “(NYXIE AND PRISMO BOTH HOLDING IN NERVOUS LAUGHTER)”

It takes him a while to get used to riding horses. The first time he tamed one he expected it to go as slow as a player, and actually got spooked when it went fast as lightning. He inched a bit. Then again with a little bit of an evil laugh. And now he rides this horse everywhere and has a hypocritical attachment to it. He was very adamant on making it its own little fence in their ever growing abundance of pets.

Let’s be real, he’d make an army of dogs the second he found out they’d fight for him. Whatever he hit, they’d be bit.

After finding out the hurt animal noises made their very emotional squid-fox-creature cry inside, though, they’ve since had to compromise in either turning off their NPC sounds or being very careful with the dogs. Unfortunately, they’ve still had to have a few graves. Nyxie makes all of them. Prismo doesn’t feel super bad as he knows it’s just a game, and Scarab is very warrior’s-honor-brained, so Nyxie is the one who feels the most devastated about it.

You can imagine what would happen if Scarab ever lost his horse.

Speaking of death, Scarab has died plenty of times and had to take a walk through the cube before he broke the controller for the fifth time. No one can blame him, though, cause Nyxie has had to do the same when she’s at her limit. One doesn’t think before doing, and the other keeps forgetting he’s too big for his britches in terms of knowledge and fighting. In real life? Yes, he’s very intelligent and very well versed in taking others down in combat. In Minecraft? Literally he’s so screwed without Prismo to help.

He got hit by The Warden ONCE and immediately noped out. We tried to warm him, and he didn’t listen.

“WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME” “WE LITERALLY DID, YOU DUMBASS”

Scarab probably builds a mob farm with Prismo while Nyxie is like a little walking backpack down below cause she doesn’t know how it works.

Don’t worry, once he gets the hang of it, he’s a pro gamer. Not as good as Prismo, of course, but still (/j).

hey!

i am marina (or mar) and this a blog i made to track my progress in learning languages and studying for uni, in hopes that i will actually stick to a schedule and be more productive bc this ain't it my dudes...

just finished (as of summer 2023) my first year in uni! i am studying computer science and it is boring af (for me) but three years left yoohoo!

i started teaching myself italian during quarantine but it got overwhelming because i couldn't maintain a schedule so i dropped it after six months

i started spanish lessons on october of 2022 and i am currently moving from a1 to a2 level

i also have a c2 level proficiency in english yay me for being gay and on ao3

speaking of gay, i am probably aroace (or i have major attachment issues but who knows)

films/series: good omens (i am not talking about this series without a lawyer), used to be a huge supernatural fan, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (both the 1980 series and the 2005/1995 movies), BARBIE, CAPTAIN MARVEL and BLACK WIDOW (best mcu movies istg), STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE and so on and so on

games: currently i am obsessed with sims 4 (and the mods. the mods.). also i started playing genshin impact in 2022 and despite being quite awful at fights with big bosses, i cant spend hours going after slimes, hilichurls and exploring. god i love exploring.

books: i am currently under a severe reading slump (seriously send help) but i became obsessed with all for the game by nora sakavic two years ago and if i get sick if i don't reread all three books every month<3 0/10 awful books but i would die for them and their characters. my main blog isn't @fuckyeahjeanmoreau for no reason! i also love pride and prejudice and a bunch of ao3 fics<33333

music: right so i listen to pretty much everything as long as its lyrics are decent (see not sexist/homophobic etc). what i listen depends on my mood but take a look at my spotify if you want and let me know if we have songs in common! some favourite albums include: preacher's daughter by ethel cain (i am convinced it's the best album in the history of albums), folklore/evermore by taylor swift, melodrama by lordre, and the whole discography by bts (and each member's solo activity)

Pride Rose

Hey guys! I tried to follow the tutorial of AustinMaples https://www.deviantart.com/austinmaples to draw a simple Rose https://www.deviantart.com/Tutorial-Draw-a-Rose-with-AustinMaples-905646163 . So here is my try and since it’s pride month, a “pride rose” here for you guys. Flags seen: Gay Trans Nonbinary Demisexual But there’s something else I need to get off my chest. You can just skip this part if you don’t like to read and/or if you’re not interested. I haven’t been feeling/doing so well lately. Life has thrown so many shitty things at me that it has become very hard to deal with. I can’t even draw properly anymore (I have been stuck on page 43 of the comic for almost a week now). For one is the issue with one of my sisters. As some of you may know I am the youngest of three. I have two older sisters. And my second-oldest sister has always been a uh… troubled child. Long story short she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia about 10 years ago and has been in and out of psychosis and mental hospitals over the decade. Now she had another heavy relapse in February this year and was in a mental hospital for 99 days until she begged the hospital enough to leave. And since she’s out life for me and my family has been nothing short of a nightmare almost every day. She hasn’t recovered from the psychosis she had in February and since she’s out of the hospital we (untrained people) had to deal with that. Now my relationship to my second-oldest sister (or let’s call her “fullblood” sister since my oldest sister is my half-sister) has never been very good. But now… I really hate to admit it, but I feel nothing for her. Well… at least nothing positive. When she’s in a psychosis she’s always afraid of me (none of us have figured out why) and blames me for everything she does and experiences. I hate it when she’s here all the time and it’s so frustrating and emotionally exhausting to have to deal with her. My mother and her are the only ones who don’t want to re-admit her to a mental hospital. No one understands their reasons… Yeah… that’s one part, maybe some of you guys have similar issues with relatives? Then the second issue has reached its worst peak this Wednesday. Now just as a side information: our family owns two horses and here in Switzerland it’s normal to have your horses in a “livery stable” (if that’s a word) so the stable doesn’t belong to us, our horses just “live there for a rent”. Now back in 2020 we switched to a new stable and guys… I have met many, many, MANY horrible human beings in my life so far but the owners of THIS stable are by FAR the worst. Back in April 2020 it didn’t take long for these two awful human beings to make life for us and our horses a living nightmare. Insulting both of our horses constantly because THEY were unable to handle them properly (our horses are the nicest and sweetest souls to anyone who returns their kindness so if they do not behave when you’re handling them, YOU’RE the problem). Anyhow… about two months in and they already threatened us to kick us out, because apparently, we were doing everything wrong (even though we followed every stupid rule they have and behaved accordingly). So… three awful years passed. We never complained, just did our thing, and try to stay away from the owner and his wife (but always getting insulted and all that stuff)(I try to keep this as short as possible). Now our gelding (Royal, 26 years old) always had bad teeth. So he can’t properly eat the hay anymore which is one main food source stable-owners have to provide according to the law. The stable-owner retired back in fall and gave the ownership to his son (but of course that awful couple remained, still living at the stables and helping out). We thought “okay, maybe his son is not as bad as him”. Well… turns out he’s just as awful as his father. My mother had a phone call about three weeks ago with him regarding Royal not being able to eat hay properly anymore and needing an alternative. We’ve been feeding him that alternative from our own pockets (mind we have issues with money as well as many people do) so far and just wanted to reason with the new owner if he could maybe provide that food for our horse or at least feed him the alternative. But all he did during the phone call was repeat what his idiot of a father was shouting in the background and insulting my mother and our horses again. Fast forward three weeks my father stepped in and arranged a meeting with the new owner (and the old as well but he didn’t show up) to talk about this issue. So my mother, my father and myself went there at Wednesday evening and the FIRST thing this asshole said is that he’s kicking us out and we need to be gone from the stables by end of the month. Reason for this is (according to him) that my mother threatened him during the phone call, saying that she said she’d go around and tell everyone that he mistreats and starves the horses. Of course, my mother denied this as it wasn’t true (two other people were in the same room listening while she was talking on the phone that they so they can confirm it). But the new owner just said “that’s what I heard and I even recorded it and you need to stop calling me late at night”. My father quickly stepped in and said “Okay well then show us that recording. And show us when she called you because she never called you late at night”. You know what the owners answer was? “I can’t show you, you can’t trace phone calls that far back (so basically three weeks). à Which is complete bullshit. You can trace EVERY phone call on your smart phone back up to three years easily. Oh and he also accused me of never greeting him or his idiotic family when at the stables (which probably may have happened 1 time when I had a bad day or wasn’t talking loud enough)… Oh dear… This has gotten long and it’s still the short version of the whole situation… I’m sorry you guys. I usually don’t vent online but I really, really needed to get this off my chest. I just can’t handle the frustration, sadness and anger any longer from all the injustice we had to live through the last few days… I’m also sorry if it’s written in a confusing way… my thoughts and heart are racing all day and night long… ☹ I hope you still like the pic and hopefully have some better days… Of course, if you like, leave some advice… Love Chad
