ive been seeing this come up again, with ppl protesting that disliking an album isnt racist and like, this has already been said much better by other people who got tons of harassment so im not digging up their posts

heres my explanation: when poc say the reaction to mania is racist, we're not saying u personally is a scheming vilain rubing ur hands together going 'mwahaha i hate poc!' i cant be inside ur head, ur feelings are for u to figure out alone. what we are saying is we keep picking up on this pattern everytime ppl talk about this album. its ppl editing burna boy out of sr, its this, its white ppl coming back to bandom out of the blue to make latine fans feel bad for enjoying hmtod, etc.

its not about u personally, its about the general response from a fanbase we know is overwhelmingly white. would i like white fans to examine where their reactions stem from? yes absolutely. but again, i cant be inside ur head. and bc it gets exhausting writing the same novel as a response everytime and we get so tired of hearing how bad this album is, an album that made us feel so seen, we're just like 'yeah pls just stop being racist'

I truly think there's something to be said about night watch and how it changes a LOT of things for vimes but particularly about vetinari. Like we all obviously see the difference in thud! between them they're fucking communicating w their EYES thats INSANE thats NOT something vimes would have ever allowed to happen before he was always staring at that goddamn wall for fucks sake but after night watch something changes between them and i think it has a Lot to do w vimes going back in time and seeing how utterly, utterly lucky they r that they have vetinari in the present he even says vetinari is like a breath of fresh air after winder and snapcase!!!!! Which is obviously true on a factual level but would he ever admitted that before?? No, no he wouldn't have. Because he didn't understand how MUCH of a fresh air until then. Not truly. And here he's thinking about how easily the city can break down in a matter of hours if the ppl in charge dont give a horseshit about it and he's thinking, without any reservation whatsoever, that vetinari WOULDN'T LET THIS HAPPEN. Like?? God. The trust in that sentence, the KNOWLEDGE in the way he thinks about what vetinari would SAY bc whether he wants to or not, he KNOWS vetinari. And knows he would never ever let something like this happen. I do think on some level he's always known that, deep DEEP down, he's not stupid, but he hadn't really Known before bc he didn't have to actually think about it. But here in night watch suddenly he's responsible for quarter of the city simply bc he created the only safe place in the eye of a storm and he HAS to think about what will happen when the rations run out and the machine breaks down bc no one else is thinking about it is anyone IMPORTANT THINKING ABOUTT IT VETINARI WOULD'VE THOUGHT ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!! The problem with a lot of traffic life interpretations in my opinion is they don't understand character foils or don't employ them in their writing. Grian-Martyn and Scar-Ren are genuinely pretty good character foils for a series that is not really scripted or planned out like a book is. I could go on and on about how they parallel each other and the similarities between them. Even the smaller details between the four usually match up

thinking about the way shadowheart, lae'zel and minthara deal with breaking away from a god/god-like figure they've dedicated their lives to. shadowheart immediately latches onto rescuing her parents as her new 'mission'. lae'zel immediately dedicates herself to freeing orpheus with the vigor she served vlaakith. minthara fixates on obtaining the power to make sure she's never controlled again.

its like. breaking away from gods/god-like figures leaves a void to fill. they're trying to fill it, and trying to choose what they fill it with. and they know that's what they're doing, in some ways, maybe to avoid the enormity of what it means to have broken away. maybe to avoid working out what they'll do as individuals. shadowheart doesnt know her parents, and they dont know her anymore, but she has to save them. you can ask lae'zel why she won't focus on herself, and she acknowledges there's no time for that. not yet. minthara wants you to use the power of the brain, but has dialogue/approval when you speak to ravenguard and she realizes hes still in there beneath the tadpoles influence, just like she was.

'my deference to him is a habit that will die hard, i fear'. minthara still calls the elder brain the absolute, even after she knows the truth. lae'zel still calls out to vlaakith in battle. shadowheart still wears the symbol of shar in her hair after dyeing it. indoctrination/ingrained beliefs are hard to break.
