Guys OP has a s literal army of trans characters, it's actually a plot point, there's literally so fucking many trans and NB and genderfluid people in OP its kind of fucking insane

There's Bon Clay/Bentham from as early as Alabasta in March of 2000, 3 years after the initial publication of OP

Bon's powers let him transform into other people, and he's the only member of a bad guy group with male/female partners who doesn't have a female partner bc he's both the male AND female partner in his rank

He doesn't need one bc he's both

Bon is also consistently one of the best characters who helps Luffy, and who deeply respects the bonds of friendship, and he deeply admires Ivankov (next in the list)

Plus, Bon Clay is only one of two in the villain group to become good guys and befriends the main characters

There's fucking Ivankov, Queen of Kammabakka Kingdom an island full of drag queens and trans people, with his hormone powers that lets him trans all the genders for himself and everyone around him (aka the Newkama in Impel Down- a literal army of trans people who help Luffy break out of prison so he can save his brother)

AND he's the second in command of the Revolutionary Army, a group actively against the World Government that controls the entire globe, and is fighting against it's corrupt politics and ideals, such as allowing slavery for the higher classes, fighting the racism against Fishman it's held up for centuries, and all that stuff

Ivankov is one of the most important characters in the series in regards to the world politics and the fight for freedom against the oppression of the WG, and he works with what are unambiguously the Good Guys in the world, who are headed by Luffy's father

There's Okiku in Wano, who its 100% trans and even gets the horny Sanji treatment

(which is kinda important bc there was some Bad Trans/Queer rep earlier in the series involving Sanji running from drag queens who were harassing him and for a while Sanji was pretty transphobic and it was a whole thing, but Oda seems to have learned or educated himself by this point, so yay)

Plus Okiku is a super strong samurai, fucking powerful girl go off, and everyone treats her as one of the girls and she's the best tbh she deserves the world

She's so sweet and kind and strong af and is just as much a warrior as the rest of her group

Who, to be very clear, is not CONFIRMED as trans, but has a lot of gender fuckery going on that he belongs on this list imo, come to your own conclusions ig

Yamato is 100% confirmed as the biological daughter of Kaido, which is backed up in several other sources and even a colorspread with only biological women, but everyone in the story itself refers to him as he/him, Including Luffy who calls him by Yama-guy/Yamao

(something Luffy only does for men- he calls Ivankov and other more genderfluid or femme leaning queer folks by -chan)

and Yamato calls himself the Son of Kaido multiple times

Yamato saw someone be so awesome that he wanted to emulate that person and become them-

but as an apparently separate decision, he decided he also wanted to be a man, too! Not just because of Kozuki Oden, but because holy fuck look at that gender, I want that for myself!!!

His identity as Kozuki Oden and his identity as Son of Kaido seem to be separate things, bc Kaido, Kaido's forces, Luffy (our main character who helps us understand how to treat situations), and everyone else around him at least acknowledges that Yamato, is, in fact, the SON of Kaido, and everyone, regardless of which side they're on in the war, respects that and treats it as fact

Meanwhile, absolutely no one treats Yamato like he's actually Kozuki Oden

And there's no sign of Yamato being forced to become a man because Kaido wanted a son- 1), he was called Oni Princess fairly consistently as a child by Kaido's forces, and 2) he only became known as Son of Kaido after Yamato himself decided he wanted to become a man

Yamato has refused everything forced on him by his father, and has run away, hid, and fought back at every moment he could, and his gender and pronouns were the only real decision of his own that have been respected as all his other freedoms were taken from him

(Which doesn't say much about his horrible father- Kaido was guided by an incredibly strong female pirate at a young age, and he has plenty of strong women among his crew. Kaido doesn't care about what gender his kid is, or gender at all)

So yeah while Yamato is not confirmed in the text as trans like many other characters are in much more obvious ways, and several sources confirm that he's biologically female, he still goes by Son and he/him by the other characters and by his own choice, so make of that what you will

this is um. corrin. an oc for that undertale post-neutral run au i posted about a few days back. They're a captain of a place called the Riverbed, my own fanmade area which is sorta above waterfall. It's the highest point of the underground and is basically where all the water FALLS from. into. waterfall. wow. amazing. Corrin wants to act intimidating he wants to act like a bigger "threat" than he already kind of is, because hes had to experience a lot of people treating him like he didnt know a thing about what he was talking about when he was CLEARLY experienced, but wasnt listened to because he looked the youngest, and young = stupid apparently. So he tends to hide his face, because he really just. hates that. Corrin is also a type of water monster that can mainly only survive in waterfall, in places like hotland (or i dunno the DUNES) he is at risk of evapporating very quickly and straight up DYING. btw :3 i'll add kind of a lighting round of facts abt them that arent really mega important but if you want more to chew on then like ok here (THIS IS "do you like the colour of the sky?" LEVEL LONG READ MORE AT YOUR OWN RISK)

I'll start from when he was a babey up until like present time in my au i guess

Corrin was born in the riverbed area, while its not very populated due to having more water than land, he and his family thrived. His mother used to be a captain too, but she quit sailing to raise him. He got incredibly attached to all the stories she told about her experiences with sailing, and wanted to do just that when he grew up.

When he was a teen he needed to earn enough money to be a personal student for a well trained sailor, because there arent many schools in the underground to begin with so education regarding specific things like sailing, art, etc, have to be exercised by a personal trainer.

To get that money for about a year he worked at a daycare in snowdin, which was far from home but worth it. Working with vastly different kids who were learning all about their enviornment taught Corrin how to properly handle a large group of people all at once in a calm and content manner.

Once he had enough money he got to study. woohoo! then he got to sail! yippee! he got himself a crew, a good boat, and everything.

Corrin and his crew's main goal for sailing is to help other monsters. Sometimes monsters can get stuck in waterfall, or even get lost, maybe even be trapped under the riverbeds waves, and thats where they swoop in to help. They actually managed to help a few royal guards who were in danger at some point, which garnered them a bit more attention. Corrin was gifted a harpoon by undyne as thanks for he and his crews effort into helping the royal guard, and he uses said harpoon to fire at shit with a harpoon gun :3 ok so. this is the part where corrin meets star ok. get ready ig.

Sometimes, monsters from that little home area of waterfall get lost and need a ride back with the boat. But sailing there is of course safer, but takes a long time due to a bunch of twists and turns needing to be taken. So corrin and their crew thought of a plan. They'd scope out a sort of shortcut to get to that home area faster so monsters wouldnt have to wait so long. As they were testing their theory the waters were extremely uncooperative, but Corrin got reckless. He took a wrong turn and they ended up crashing and he went overboard. Corrin sorta. floated away. half drowning, half not, just kinda out of it. Since the riverbed is the highest point of the underground, he ended up falling! many times! and much like a certain lil human guy ended up crashing into one of the mines in the dunes. The dunes, being a very hot area, is NOT suited at all for corrin. He can die there if going without water for at most 3 days. So corrin seeked refuge and for help to get back to waterfall or for someone to just. idk. give him water. Unfortunately he was attacked ! uh oh! From his looks alone corrin does NOT at ALL look like hes from the dunes and is an easy target, yknow. Corrin fought back though as he does have a weapon, a fucking harpoon gun, but as he did so he was caught in the act at the worst second. in rolls the fuckin feisty five, despite knowing how serious the situation is they were like "nah lets keep this up for the roleplay" "we might die" "no" sooooo corrin got locked up in jail! He was able to explain his situation about how hes a water monster and will die within days if hes kept in that cell, so they come up with a compromise. If corrin helps them out around the wild east, THEY can help him get back to waterfall AND give him water ! And yea. then he and star get mega gay and homosexual. wow. corrin actually forms a bit of a rivalry between the five because he doesnt enjoy being bossed around, but he kind of has to or he might die yknow. dont feel like giving all the juicy details but eventually he and star get a bit close and yeeeaaaaaa but then they help corrin back to waterfall, but he and star stay in touch. through letters ! Corrin keeps every letter he gets from star btw in a special little box. because he likes stars awful handwriting

Eventually though when frisk rolls around, and kills asgore (canon to my au) Corrin is fucking. Furious. He has lost all hope. He as well as entire monsterkind has lost their freedom to a CHILD. Blinded by rage he begins taking out all his anger out on humanity, which, to Star, who KNEW clover and LOVED them like family because of how incredibly kind they were, takes great offense to that. Corrin and Star have to temporarily take a break from eachother so that Corrin can work on his issues regarding humanity, having to realize frisk didnt have much of a choice. It was either them or asgore. And they're a child. Who might not be able to process or understand the weight they carried on their shoulders.

Once Corrin comes to terms with that, and calms down, he and Star are back together and are happy :3

Though, then Palila enters !!! (another oc for the au, the player char) and. Corrin is hesitant. Palila sneaked onto their ship to be able to go from one place to another much quicker, but in turn, Corrin has no idea how to handle them. Corrin doesnt know what to do, all hes ever learnt was to fight or get someone off of the ship immediately if possible. But Palila is a child. A HUMAN child. He doesnt want to fight them, not after all the time he spent collecting himself and trying to berid of all his hatred for humanity and what they've done to monsters, but he's forced into a situation where he HAS to fight because someone is TRESSPASSING on their property. He first sends Palila to Time-out (those daycare instincts kicking in) but once they escape he cant really do anything but fight.

Once hes spared though, he makes a compromise with Palila too. They can stay on his ship whenever they need to and wherever they want to go (like sorta the riverperson) but they must ask or inform someone on deck before doing so. and now hes a dad :3 So yeah thats basically all of it in like a very bitcrushed summary i didnt want this to get too long but whoops. ADHD/ Neurodiversity rant, Ig?? (TLDR at the end)

I feel like I've definitely went through some character development over the years but especially when I learned more about my ADHD.

They don't really give you that much info when you get diagnosed, I feel (I got diagnosed pretty young at like 7-8 and started taking meds when I was about 9 years old, I think).

And I started learning more about it in, like, middle school and it was wild to figure out that I wasn't alone in these experiences I was having like RSD (AND THE RSD CHEST PAIN- I WAS LIKE "OTHER PEOPLE WITH ADHD FEEL THIS TOO?!?"), Sensory issues (I get pissed if I get overstimulated and it was a relief to find out that other people feel like that too), skipping lines when I read and getting headaches while reading even though I wasn't dyslexic (Convergence insufficiency), being uncoordinated (my handwriting always going upwards instead of in a straight line, having trouble with using keys, or getting food all over myself when I ate) , problems with emotional regulation, etc.

Shout out to people on tiktok/youtube who have info on ADHD like: Connor DeWolfe, Ethan Nestor & Markiplier (not really their main content but they both do have it and occasionally talk about it. Ethan has the hyperactive type and Mark has the inattentive type), Olivia Lutfallah (her ADHD simulators are SO ACCURATE- And she has AuDHD so she has some stuff about autism too, I believe)

I remember I felt sorta daunted at first to realize I was way different than my peers than I first thought

and I had that sorta grieving process that people get when they get diagnosed later in life even though I had already been diagnosed

Like, "Damn. If only my past-self had known that. Maybe I could've shielded her from getting hurt."

But also, knowing more helped me move forward with more of a plan, I guess

Anyways, I'm saying this because I think it's so important that people be taught more about Neurodiversities

Kids, parents, teachers, etc. should all be more informed because it saves a lot of confusion and pain for people in the long-run

Cuz a kid won't know that they have a different brain because that's all they've ever known. Sorta reminds me of the quote:

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

But yeah, if it hadn't been for my second grade teacher who noticed that I was coming home with classwork and who didn't think I was just being lazy, I don't know if I would be here, today, to be honest.

All it takes is one person to notice the signs of neurodiversity and speak up to change someone's life for the better

which is why I always try to educate my friends on this kinds of things so that they can be more helpful and understand of people with neurodiversites and of themselves if they realize they have a neurodiversity

Also, I write about this because I used to find characters like Mable Pines and Steven Universe annoying until I realized they exhibited ADHD symptoms and there was probablyyy some internalized ableism in my mind as a kid. I was able to watch the shows with these characters in them as a teenager and realize how much they characters were like me! And I loved them for it! It's really cool to see how much my knowledge and acceptance for my ADHD has grown as I've grown!

Anywayssss, that is all. I'm on my meds rn and I had some motivation so decided to talk about this hehe. I gotta get ready for some babysitting rn lmao.

was never rlly much of an a+ student. in his hometown where he grew up he tended to daydream a lot in class and not pay attention to. tho he did love phys ed. but when he and his family had to run from home and his adoptive uncle took him in- he didnt rlly continue on with any formal education. his uncle ofc made sure he could read and write and do basic math- but kaine was much more interested in helping to take care of his sister and learning how to fight until he was old enough to help out with his uncles business.

nico on the other hand had tutors and private classes due to their grandmother’s status in the govnt. nico was. also not a good student HDHDH just getting bad marks or daydreaming or being distracted in class. they loved when they got to read tho during school. stories as escapes and etc. tho nico wouldnt ever finish their schooling bc they ran away from home at like 16 (the second time they ran away. which this time it rlly stuck rather than being sent back.)

I used to love shounen and shoujo manga equally....But ever since I found BL manga 3 years ago, my interest in shoujosei (especially het romance) decrese a lot, and what I search for is just the dynamic between mc (male) and male lead...I don't want to read mc (female) and male lead or mc (male) and female lead...And what I want to read for romance mostly are just mlm or wlw stories....

Hiiiii, anon! I don't know if my answer will be helpful or not as I can't speak to your experience or what you feel specifically sets MLM and WLW-centered stories apart from hetships.

I'll start with the fact that I don't think I'd say something is "happening" to you. People tend to just read and gravitate toward what piques their interest. The exploration of which is kinda your own thing to navigate and, subsequently, to determine what that means to you. I randomly talk about finding identity through engagement with queer media but it's not something I'd project onto a stranger. Fetishization tends to be a really harmful byproduct of the prevalence of BL specifically so, as a cautionary thing, I'd ask you to consider whether you feel that's a component of your concern.

I will say I don't think it's weird. Apparently my blog has become an open ended discussion about BL lol but my IRL friends and I, in addition to BL, try to read stories with other alternative representation, as well. For context, I'm a black woman. Growing up, none of the books I read had main characters that looked like me or stories that intimately captured my experience as a black girl that I could project myself upon. (Even so, when asked some time ago for my favorite characters, a lot of them still didn't look like me but I was still able to inherently identify with them for one reason or another). These days, you're able to find stories, shows, movies, etc. that more realistically reflect the world we find ourselves in with diverse representation of race, disabilities, gender identity and expression and orientation (just to name a few).

We still have a long ways to go but, without adequate representation, there are probably a lot of people who would never consider 1) other people's perspective and experience within a world that has a lot of systemic issues, 2) that there are other alternatives to strictly being comphet, or 3) the challenges we take for granted for differently abled people.

I'm not an expert, I'm very much still sorting myself out in every way imaginable. I am, quite literally, just some nerd on the internet with gratuitously impassioned rants about anime so my credentials are lacking. But if you need my gold seal of approval - I think you're okay. It's okay to like what you like, whether that be media wise or people wise if that's what you're worried about. (Uh.. provided its not harmful?). Drink the wine (consensually) and be less concerned with the label. Additionally, I think there are a lot of icons out there that can probably offer better guidance, if not in a Q&A capacity, still in just existing and seeking to educate others that might be cool to check out like alokvmenon on IG and maybe some books that take alternative perspectives into consideration?

Omg. Ty. I have been working on this blog sincerely, and im aware i can still make mistakes or have different opinions or solutions on topics, but its atleast about being genuine and not misinforming people for the sake of anything.

Your question is so good, and i exactly have 4 different types of friends i had encountered, which means im also suit for explaining tips to you from my personal experience, lets move on to the main point;

Telling intros and precautions of different parts to the person is short and straightforward, this should suffice for now because i wouldn't recommend bombarding a person with too much things at once. If you are trying to explain to a person who have 0 knowledge on DID, i say use any kinds of analogies along with simplified answers to explain this disorder, you could even give links (i read it myself before sending it to people to make sure its accurate) if its not enough. The "important things" you said for clueless people may look like letting the person know your parts are different 'facets' and never the same person, that you might have some triggers and you need to let the person know too, maybe telling that this disorder is more common than it is portrayed by society (perhaps people always thinks it is rare if they never heard it, and knowing its rare, depending on the person, may generate subtly negative responses even though not trying to harm anyone).

Now understand that we won't always get the perfect reply that we have in our heads.. these 4 types i ever met and take as examples, the one that is clueless, confused, but learning; the one that says they know DID but then say something as "is it like the split movie?"; the one that continued like nothing ever happened; the one that is also clueless but very curious. And i approached them according to their situation after hearing about plurality. Here is how you tackle all 4 of these as a bonus to your answers if atleast one fits my narrative:

Shocked/Confused but learning: you have to go very slow with this one, its like teaching a baby how to walk, but its explain bits of facts of the disorders, explain how you live differently compared to singlets, work on educating the principles of this disorder one after another, i also slide each part's name and its unique personality after the friend met them, on offtime (im a gatekeeper i can do this), memorizing one by one instead of all at once but this is just my way.

Educated but misinformed: i think telling the real way how this disorder works is much easier with this type of person, so the main thing you should address first is that split sucks ass, and then slam those truths and facts about what DID is all about, and then you're all done for now, just re-educate this person ig? Yeah.

Ignoring? Forgetful? Nothing happening?: yeah, not the best person i met, but really, it's either this person didn't chew the information and remember or it is just not comfy and prefer to address you as a singlet, the friend i have like this still respects the pronouns on whoever fronts but we have to keep telling her, but eitherway.. telling them you're plural is actually enough here. And i already respect the effort.

Curious but uneducated: i get along with this type of friend, they hear anything you say, and address the pronouns accordingly to each part who is present. it is still important to know that this person tends to make its own narrative of the disorder (because again, curious, maybe tend to understand in its own way) so you might want to explain the basics so this person doesn't start assuming something else, motivating them to read articles and other plural's experiences would also help you and the person a ton.

currently watching a new show on prime called Cross about a forensic psychologist with a PhD in psychology. I don't agree with how he uses the degree....but the concept is cool nonetheless. he is a cop. also I love the psychologist refuses to see a psychologist because they know it's BS trope. it's a good show so far.

also the computational neuroscientist I follow on IG who does functional connectivity in Alzheimers studied psychology as an undergraduate. this is likely before neuroscience was its own separate degree. believe it or not, it's a relatively new field at the undergraduate level. I asked her some questions regarding the overlap between psych and neuro and how prepared she felt etc.

I'm trying to prepare myself in case I have to spend the next 4 years wanting to die.

I do think neuropsychology is cool but not from the clinical lens which is really the only way it's applicable RE psych. it would be really neat to calculate IQ results but I don't want to be the one delivering the test and actually testing people. in neuroscience, you can apply cognitive psych with hands on approaches like using rodents and fMRI. so it's a step further... it's more broad and in depth. it expands your skillset if that's what you'd like. if there was like a way to administer such a test in a hospital setting and then consult neurology and be like "hey this kid is like seriously below average in WM (working memory), maybe scan their brains", that'd be cool.

I'm also not okay with getting a degree that shares the title "psychology and neuroscience" I'm sorry, no. I currently exist in the educational era where neuroscience is its own discipline and I want that reflected in my degree.

I think Cynthia Bulik studied psychology and she did go on to delve into the genetics side which is awesome listening to her talk about it because it shows how much she understands it. but her son is a statistician and I'm sure he did most of the math frameworks.... so it's like, I don't want to be the one who needs to understand the work to be able to describe it to a large audience, I want to be the one who does it. so I mean it's fascinating because I'm not sure when I decided I wanted to do this. it was kind of gradual. first, I just always read up on things to try and better understand my profile and just because I found things to be fascinating. once I started going through neurological concerns, I probably tailored my research towards that but was still quite limited in that regard. but I always read up on things and when I was in the hospital, I'd try to find case studies that resembled what the doctors were saying. of course some of it was utter BS and not the real truth, but that doesn't matter. I still looked it up and there were a couple case studies I read up on. people suffering from rhabdo and compartment syndrome in response to drug overdoses. the effect of pregabalin on nerve pain, seizures and mood disorders such as bipolar disorder and anxiety. the effect of Suboxone and sublocade on the brain and what it does as partial agonists, how they differ from each other. actually, I just reviewed that quickly and I think I mistook sublocade for Suboxone. I thought sublocade had naloxone in it, but it doesn't. that's only Suboxone. oh shiiii, I thought it was the other way around lol. dang. also, Sublocade having less protection with its non pairing of naloxone doesn't diminish the pharmacological properties associated with buprenorphine, it is still a partial agonist regardless, it just removes the protective layer increasing risk of overdose. interestingly, I never cared to do much research on antidepressants. but luckily through my psych class, I learned the main mechanism of antidepressants and what blocking reuptake actually means; it blocks the reuptake process of reabsorbing in the presynaptic neuron and allows it to hang around in the synaptic cleft longer so the effect of serotonin can last and bind to the receptors in the postsynaptic neuron longer. you have to understand what it means because I think anyone would look at that and think blocking the reuptake process is a bad thing. it sounds contradicting at first. I was like wait what? but it makes sense if you think about it from the lens of the serotonin levels lacking and someone needing more of it. but I was confused at first!

anyway back to the point. and then once I joined the research team at McMaster, I realized I really wanted to learn quantitative methods to research. the absolute crazy thing though is that I found the discharge report in my mother's room. I took pictures of the lab results and the MRI + CT findings. I learned that I had AKI and if I hadn't taken matters into my own hands to repeatedly read this document and look it up, I probably would've dismissed the possibility of having a kidney infection with a UTI last year. so......yeah. that's wild.

so from what I understand, the crossover between AN-BP to AN-R has a very low rate of occurrence. they say something about an innate biological need to eat food. yeah, I definitely disagree. like I ate more than usual yesterday but it was not a binge in the slightest and I did have any desire to purge it afterwards. I think a lot of it has to do with methodology and food strategies one may or may not have the privilege to acquire either by lack of treatment options via meal plans or pharmaceuticals. I was lacking the former but not the latter and so because of that, I believe my process was a bit longer. a lot longer than it needed to be. however, these pharmaceuticals which dramatically changed my life and I wouldn't have been on it without nerve pain and brain lesions gave me the capacity to plan my day and execute whatever plan I created. when you have the capacity to understand and to act, that's really all you need. so I can look up meal plans online to get an overall idea if I wish to do so. the real difference is the ability to set shift. I spent 4 mos liquid fasting and eating abundantly when I wasn't which thanks to my gut issues is really the only time I can eat abundantly without much pain before I am stopped yet again... last time it was the pantoprazole that helped me eat abundantly but this time, that isn't enough. and so my plan was always to stop doing that and ease my way into eating solids daily so I've done that since May and have not had any issues aside from just having my body adjust to the changes. the point being is that if I want to do something, I will. there's potential to work towards a goal. nobody needs to purge....like ever and yet there's a physiological drive, a psychological drive and an immense inability to stop.

now compare that to the average 16 year old girl forced into treatment before she's ready, is absolutely panicked, doesn't know a thing about calories or routine has been thrown off dramatically etc. they may contemplate purging. they may not have a structured routine with food. now what happens if they're introduced to such? they can maintain their weight or even lose the weight if they have the ability to stick to a goal, if they can just eat 3x a day or whatever. so that structure is everything first of all. and then there's the issue of whether to not someone can apply that regardless of that structure being present or absent. I did have some structure when I went to visit my aunt as a teen. a lot of that has been built in RE omega 3 fish oil is a game changer. if it's not, I totally believe in it and it dramatically improves my cognitive abilities. I take 1 tsp daily when I remember to do so and when I skip for a week or longer, I feel my brain cells dying. so there are things that I recall from that period that one might assume is just an issue of applying, of wanting to apply it. I can say that I can easily choose to apply that now because I don't have an issue with application. but before anticonvulsant treatment, I had an inability to apply absolutely anything and everything. so something as simple as taking fish oil daily would not have been possible for me, just like it wasn't possible to brush my teeth x2 daily or do my laundry or shower or put sheets on the bed. I was lacking severely. AN-R without purging in the most basic sense is the ability to apply knowledge and learn from past actions i.e. what feels good and what doesn't. if you have the structure and you know eating 3x a day feels good and purging feels bad, AN-R is the ability to go forward with that knowledge, that intuition. it doesn't really matter how someone comes to it or when, it's simply the ability to do it. that's how I perceive it after struggling so long to just do the basics. it can't be perfect, but I will forever rave about the improvement I feel I've made.

someone can have all the help, but it's just not enough because it's not the right help for them specifically. I'm glad I didn't waste years on rehab because without anticonvulsants, none of them would've worked, none of em, and that's a kind of failure that hurts people. it makes them feel helpless and robs them of hope... nothing would have worked for me without those life saving pharmaceuticals. I should've been on it from age 13 when my WM was detected at below average compared to age 8 at average. by the time I was 17, my WM was borderline. so yeah, my brain is still fucked, but adolescent presentation needs to be cleared and dealt with so that adult presentation varies. the condition won't go away, but it manifests differently throughout life and it has the potential to be better. my motor function is arguably worse, but my executive functioning has skyrocketed... so to me, adulthood is way better than adolescence ever was. so it's really important to treat the problem that's presented. now, the motor function should probably be dealt with sooner rather than later so I don't end up immobile by the time I'm well into my 30s or 40s, so that adult presentation should be handled. but anyway, presentations matter! I do hope that I will be used as part of the statistic of that low percentage crossover from AN-BP to AN-R because it speaks to a measurable neurological concern in which there is evidence of. hopefully that can be of due diligence. I know it makes for a compelling case to be labelled as AN-BP with my electrolyte instability from the rare kidney disease but idk, I would prefer to be part of the minority crossover because I think it's really essential for eating disorder science. idk if this is already a common discovery and people just aren't being treated for neuro concerns, but I swear on my life that my bulimia was heavily correlated with these adolescent brain lesions. I feel that is important to share and further suggests the ego dystonic nature associated with BN and the personality changes associated with cerebellar lesions. that's like 4 different research papers alone.

If my life were a movie, it would be a combination of all the genres listed; the comedy aspect would come from the unreasonable amount of confidence I (as the main character) have. The drama scenes would revolve around getting prosecuted in court for “accidentally” stealing from Target, and the horror aspect would come from the feelings of anxiety one would get while watching this movie because of how awful it ends up being 😇

With the values of community inclusivity and a personal desire to build character, I find that whenever I enter a new place, I am immediately drawn to analyze the way systems of a community group work and how it serves its people. 

A time in my life that I feel was best reflected during my involvement in UC Davis’ Housing and Urbanism Program in Spain. I worked with a team of five other students to analyze the Urban Landscape and Housing typologies of the PobleNou area of Barcelona we spent 8 weeks evaluating the developing area and engaging with various community members and stakeholders currently involved in the development. We were asked to step up and be leaders using our educational background to get current community members of the PobleNou area more involved in Civic Engagement.

Facing the challenge of encouraging community members to voice their opinions on the impact of the development, I employed a creative approach rooted in my love for music. Though not conventional, I initiated a collaborative Spotify playlist for the neighborhood. Participants were invited to add songs accompanied by personal stories linking the music to memories of their time in PobleNou. Surpassing my expectations, the playlist sparked meaningful engagement, offering fresh insights through the lens of music.

As diverse perspectives emerged from the residents, I gained an understanding of how the development affected community members and their families. Using this unconventional tool of a curated playlist, I sought to recreate the emotional essence of moments spent in these locations by tourists and residents. Through the power of music, a vivid image began to take shape, highlighting various underrepresented aspects of the Poble Nou neighborhood. This experience showed me how the potential for unconventional yet welcoming approaches to leadership often yields profound insights and fosters meaningful connections within a community. With this casual yet meaningful connection made, community members allowed their reflections to drive them to become increasingly involved in helping developers with the goal of reclamation works in this industrial area of the city.

SO i just finished wonder egg priority and i think that with confidence i can say it has been one of my favorite animes like... ever ?? and not even from hyperfixation or obsession over it just... its so fucking real yet so simple in a way that i havent rlly seen shown in any other shows you feel ??

but first i wanna talk about how sexy the art and animation is real quick... HOMIE ITS SO GOOD LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST... serotonin... the characters are all so unique and iconic and fun but not over the top in their designs yknow ??? they seem like regular every day girls but they stand out and theyre all sO CUTE !!!! also i love how the style is like this soft bubbly slice of life lookin stuff with bright happy colors and the most beautiful scenes you could find but they also have the SICKEST fight scenes complete with whimsical animal helpers and terrifying villains and crazy weapons unique to each character. and the animation. god DAMN shawty i am obsessed with everything in this show. i might make a post solely about the art later lol bc i wanna get into the other stuff.

so the themes in the show right ?? it starts just as this cute lil magical girl kinda deal but within the first episode we see that like.. oh damn... thats kinda heavy... tbh i was a little shocked and thought about stopping bc yknow bad mental health BUT i was so intrigued that i had to keep going and i am SO GLAD that i did. because this show just so beautifully discusses all these heavy topics in such an eloquent and artistically expressive way. and also like, , the juxtaposition of the charming childlike vibe with bright colors and 14 yr old girl protagonists against the dark themes of suicide and so much else,, i think is just perfect. bc a lot of heavy animes are more of the seinen genre and have some middle aged dude as a protag or make the entire color palette dim or offer little relief to the pain of these heavy themes right ?? but NO not wonder egg bitches B) because these problems arent just things that ppl face later in life or just problems that need to be talked about among adults or the edgy seinen watching squad,, these are REAL problems that face people of every age, gender etc and i think its awesome that wonder egg addresses that. some may cringe at the thought of their high schooler watching animes that discuss sexual harassment, suicide, abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc,, but in reality it is the most comforting thing i have ever come across and is basically jsut free anime therapy. because not only does wonder egg present these themes to the viewers as something real that happens to all kinds of people (making said people feel heard in a way that maybe they hadnt before), but it also makes sure to vanquish all of these forms of trauma. and the way the trauma is vanquished isnt always beautiful and it isnt always just magically gone with a poof. the struggles of overcoming or living with that sort of thing are shown in such a real and relatable way that addresses every hardship trauma survivors have to go through. and i just. god i cry bro. 

oh m y GOD and the lgbtq+ rep in this show ?? like shawty... as soon as i saw episode one i was picking up on some gay/lesbian themes but then again im sapphic and project that a lot so i tend to see that sort of stuff like... everywhere... but NE WAYS... episode ten made me FUKCING CRY BRO LIke i cant believe there was a whole trans character with a whole trans pride hoodie like LKGHKDGH my heart is just so.. so fucking full thinking about him. bc like yeah i know there are trans characters in anime but i feel like theyre always very ambiguous about actually being trans or not or erased or portrayed as a harmful stereotype or theyre constantly misgendered and still refered to as their assigned gender at birth and i hate it. HOWEVEr... Kaoru.. *chefs kiss* it was so amazing to see a character straight up say “yeah im trans” in such a casual yet powerful way bc i personally have never seen that before. and i love love loved how he went into his backstory and talked to momoe about gender bc i think thats what she rlly needed and that it helped her find herself and it makes me so happy oh my god,, and the way they talked about it never seemed forced or like it was the focal point of his existence yknow ?? like yeah he existed to help momoe overcome some of her trauma but he also just existed to be HIM yknow ?? also... personally, i headcanon momoe as a trans girl even though i dont remember it being explicitly stated plus the school scenes of her and stuff would seem like they suggest otherwise ??but,,, SHAWTY THE AMOUNT OF SUBTEXT and her complicated relationship w gender is... something i feel like a cis girl would not go through so harshly yknow ?? with all of the questioning and feeling detached from femininity or feeling like ppl dont see her as an actual girl and only like her as a guy or for her masculine traits,,, but dont take my word on this bc i myself am a cis girl but that was just my take on it as someone in the lgbtq+ community trying to educate myself on the transgender community :) either way,, wonder eggs portrayal of momoe and kaoru and the way that momoe becomes so passionate about expressing herself the way she wants to as a girl is just... good lord im gonna cry its so perfect,,,.so ... i just love this show way too much. i also am honestly super lost about the relationship btwn acca and ura-acca ?? bc i was gonna mention ura-acca as a canonically gay guy bc when i was watching i interpreted ep 11 as him being in love with acca and being jealous of Azusa (bc i mean,, they lived together (i swear to god there was only one bed in that apartment) and had a daughter together and def loved each other and also when Frill said they were husbands and then when ura-acca said he wasnt attracted to azusa but he was def jealous of their relationship ??) but then i saw somewhere that theyre brothers ?? which would make sense ig since they look kinda similar and accas daughter called ura-acca “uncle”.. but at the same time its ANIME SO THEY ALL LOOK SIMILAR and referring to gay couples as siblings is an EXTREMELY common euphemism soooo... IM JUST LOST HERE... but yeah i tried doing research and found different things so i cant say anything for sure >:( however,,, if they are canonically a lil fruity for each other... when frill refered to acca as ura-accas husband i imploded dude you never hear that sort of wording in anime.. but if theyre related i am so sorry. 

god this is so much longer than i planned it to be oops but i also love the theme about like.. relying on friends to help carry your weight but at the same time not becoming completely dependent on those friends and using their support to learn how to love yourself and rely on yourself yknow ?? bc that is exactly what healthy friendships look like. bc i think ai sort of had a codependency thing goin on with koito maybe ?? but now she has a whole squad of funky friends that are so so different but all struggle with different kinds of trauma and although they fight over it, they always get through it with each other together. and they push each other no matter what to be the best versions of themselves and they teach other that getting hurt is okay because theyre always gonna be there to pick up the pieces no matter what happens. they can give each other space when they need and adapt to meet each others needs but theyre always able to balance it out with their own needs and thats such a beautiful thing in friendships especially at their age like damn i wish i had that maturity when i was 14 but no all i had was depression. another thing is that through these friendships you get to see all the different sides of each girl; you get to see them being strong or a shining light to their friends when theyre hurting but you also get to see them being hurt and weak and allowing themselves to be on the receiving end of the comfort. their friendships allows them to have weaknesses but it also allows them to highlight their strengths and thrive off of each others. I LOVE FRIENDSHIP DUDE

next i wanna briefly mention some of the themes connected to suicide that ive noticed. a big one is the survivors guilt that ai feels once koito is dead. several times she screams that she wishes she couldve gone with koito and she dreams of a “perfect world” where they committed a double suicide. one of the main reasons for her troubles is that she blames herself for koitos death and feels like it should be her thats dead... but at the same time she feels like too much of a coward to do anything now that koito is gone. she just has all these complex and contradicting feelings that wear away at her in ways that ppl that havent gone through the suicide of a loved one could never imagine. a lot of the times when things like this are portrayed in media i feel like its more in a way thats meant to guilt trip those that have taken their own lives and paint suicide as this selfish sin thats unforgivable but... not only does wonder egg reject that idea and instead portray it as a heartbreaking tragedy with,,, so so many terrible reasons, but it focuses on the feelings of ai separate from koito without blaming her in any way. not once did i feel like the show antagonized koito or that ai blamed koito for doing any of this, but they simply mourned her loss and touched on ais reaction towards the event but separate from koito herself if that makes sense. and i think that discussing survivors guilt without painting koito as the bad guy is something so beautifully done in wonder egg that can really resonate with those that have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with these same things.

okay i think this is the last thing ill mention,,, but HOMIE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE BIT AT THE END. I AM. OBSESSED. i am such a whore for anything about the multiverse okay n e ways...,, not only did this make a super epic trippy ending of season one and add a little bit more magical girl whimsy to the show,, but it had such a powerful message. from the perspective of og ai,, finding out that you killed yourself in another world is... i mean its definitely not a surprise but at the same time it rlly makes you think how close og ai herself couldve been to that point and what decisions led her out of that dark place in her life. if i were in her shoes i would be terrified and id cry bc the thought of going back to such a dark place and actually going through with something like that is my worst fear and probably something that ai fears too. but at the same time,,, think from the perspective of ai two !!! like yeah its true that theres this awful terrible version of ai that dies but theres also a whole version of ai that is a superhero magical girl fighting off monsters to save countless ppls lives !! and she has a badass lizard and a gang of awesome friends !!! at first i was worried that ai two would be jealous of og ai and compare herself to her and feel inferior but like.. THEYRE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON AND CAPABLE OF THE SAME THINGS !!! and ai two realized that !! just within the span of one episode, she went from the version of ai who took her life,, to the version of ai jumping in front of a friend to take a bullet for them and save their life. and that just inspired THE SHIT OUT OF ME. i think that ai was sent another version of herself to sort of beat her own worst enemy yknow ?? those doubts and fears that shes no good or that shes that same bystander from episode one and that she hasnt changed at all. but getting to interact with her parallel self and see her grow was just what she needed to realize that while yeah sometimes the worst thing can happen and things can be terrible but on the other hand sometimes the most wonderful thing imaginable can happen because she has the power to do either. 

so im gonna go ahead and stop rambling bc i got all my thoughts out that i wanted to for this post :D but yeah lol i might make another if i feel like it sometime. long story short: this show is perfect and it is going on my favorite of all times.

From GGC to LU

Firstly, what has drawn you to this academic program? Secondly, as a consumer of knowledge, who do you rely upon for information? Consider perhaps three or more "sources". How do you ensure this information is reliable? How does this relate to this program? (Blog Prompt #1 from Dr. Amanda Hooykaas)

The outdoors, especially camping, has been a part of my life since I was about 5 years old, as that was the first time I went camping with my Spark unit. The only thing I remember about that trip was exploring a frog pond and trying to catch them; I don’t remember if anyone was successful, but the leaders did serve as “frog legs” later that day as something to eat, so possibly?! From that first camping trip, I have camped and traveled with Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) at least 20 times, along with camping with my family on road trips to the east coast.

The first time I heard of Lakehead and this program was the summer of 2018, when I worked at Neys Provincial Park. Of the ~15 staff members, 8 of them currently or had attended Lakehead, and 3 of them were in this program. Meghan, Justin, and Stephane talked a lot about all the cool stuff they had done, along with their upcoming class trips later that summer. I had just finished grade 10 and had no idea of what I wanted to do for post-secondary. I still didn’t know by the end of the summer, but what they said started with me for the rest of high school; and in the end, I applied and picked to follow their (among others) advice to come here to the ORPT program at Lakehead!

As a consumer of knowledge, I gain information from a lot of places, but the main three I rely on are: (1) Books and libraries, (2) the internet, and (3) the news.

I am a very avid reader, so I have read a lot of books and visited many libraries in 4 different towns. A lot of my random facts come from books along with the internet, from all my fact-checking for the new facts from the books. Social media is not the most reliable source for information, but it’s another place I have learned something new from, after some other research to double-check its truthfulness. I watched the news more when I was younger, as my parents watched it to find out what was happening in the world.

I know all of these sources have the chance of not containing reliable, or truthful information. So, I make sure to fact-check the facts with other sources writing about the same or similar topics, along with looking at the author and companies saying this information. If the author has experience in that field and can prove that, I trust their opinions and written works more than someone who doesn’t have the experience or knowledge. The same goes for companies, like BBC and Wikipedia; if they are knowledgeable in a subject, along with other trustable sites saying similar things to them, I’m more likely to trust and rely on their information.

This relates to the program, as for me, the professors are reliable sources as they have the knowledge and first-hand experience in the field, or know someone else who does.
