unfortunately, i think this is one of those things that's like you cant blame either of them. i understand your grampa's: that propaganda will rot your brain, but i also understand your dad's: fiction is how i can safely enjoy things i would never otherwise fuck with. although… grampa might be right.

i saw a video of this man explaining how you're still susceptible to propaganda even if you know you're going through it. this man was in the us army and his commander (or smth) didn't want to train recruits, so as his act of rebellion, he would explain how each of their tactics were slowly brain washing them, and they still worked. this man knew exactly why they were being forced to wake up early so that they'd be tired and too dumb do anything but listen, etc, etc. In the end, his brain traded in the military trauma for his childhood memories, and he said that when he watched top gun maverick, he SOBBED because it scratched that part of his military wired brain perfectly.

the idea that cancelling each other over media preferences is "terminally online behavior" is so funny to me considering this is what fractured my family even long before i was born LMAO
