if you're going to plagiarize other people's work you should at least make sure that it doesn't suck. like don't get me wrong plagiarism is shitty regardless but at least if you get called out for stealing something actually good you can still say you have good taste if nothing else. but if you plagiarize something that sucks well then that's just embarrassing for you.

i have done...an absolute deep dive into blues and folk music tonight. it was 100% one of those blink and three hours have passed type of deals. worth it though.
#be warned if you go into the tags i will explain how this all came up. educational but long!#so it started with two questions. mostly because i live in the ozarks i wanted to know and secondly i like music if you haven't caught on#(btw i am so giving you guys the quick and easy version if you are reading this at all)#anyway. the first question was 'why does the ozarks have such a country influence but also bluegrass but also blues but also folk but al-'#because while i grew up in stl i am now like. living living in the ozarks right? right. and i for sure can see how we are the like...#the little sibling of the appalachian mountains. and i thought it was just cause aw cute mini mountains (highlands people)#but instead its cause there were settlers from appalachia! which makes a ton of sense now seeing influences and culture etc etc#so we cleared up that. we know why the ozarks is the way it is (or at least part of it)#btw anyone who says branson is a “true reflection” of the ozarks is out of their damn minds.#that shit is tourist central and just drives me up the wall. they are playing a parody of themselves is the best way to describe it#caricature maybe??? point is. “h'yuck h'yuck we're the country jubilee!” is not uhhhh ozarks and never was?#like it was but they took it a step further. so. anyway#can you tell i'm fixated on this right now? moving on! question 2 was quite literally 'what genre is this song'#it's 'fault line' by black rebel motorcycle club (which i highly suggest everyone listen to)#but i was like hmmm very bluesy harmonica but just fingerpicking guitar so that's more folksy#so! i went on a deep dive of what technically considers blues blues and what folk is. and guess what! the ozarks play into this too#because! the thing is that the ozarks is weird. st louis is technically not in the ozarks but on the outskirts. and stl is influenced by...#the mississippi delta! therefore blues music which led to rock and roll etc#(that's a whole other tangent for another day on stl and blues and rock and roll)#but anyway it makes sense that once you have folks from stl area coming down to the ozarks then you also have that combo of...#mississippi delta and appalachia music. so then we go back to “fault line” right?#i have declared it folk mostly because it definitely doesn't follow traditional blues progression or call and response.#so anyway. deep dive tonight was basically what is this song's genre and how does that wrap into where i live!#which also. brmc is like...usually listed as a “rock” band from san francisco which hey! awesome.#but like. from the songs i've heard and especially causing me to do this deep dive...they do not strike me as a californian band#music is cool! regions are cool! culture is cool! i just like to see how it's all spread out ya know?#if you've read this far gold star! i hope you've learned something tonight from reading the ramblings of a fixated person#i'm rambling again aren't i

Young Tommy Innit he was just 15 When robbers pointed a very strange machine (A gun) His runes designed to get a monstrous king
They gonna catch 'em all, SCP Foundation
When it didn't quite work, robbers, they don’t quit, But then Tommy took a look inside of it (The barrel of a gun) There was a great red flash, everything just changed, Robber organs got all rearranged!
When he first woke, anomalized He had perfect hair, and glowin' red eyes. He could walk through wars, watch them all, go die, He was much more unique than the other guys! (no one was happy about this)
And the Foundation knew what they had to do, They had to stop all the Skips that were comin' through, They’re here to fight for me and you!

#school rumble#i could write an essay on it#actually i have#one of the most powerful stories ever written gah it drives me crazy that it comes in such a strange package#the story so powerful the animation team rejected the manga's bs to give the characters the finale they deserved#even though they were forced to retcon it in the final 2 episodes to push for another season#literally they just end the story on episode 19 and hard pivot to movie parody skits/vacation specials for the rest of the episodes#it's magical#until the episode 25 does the ''ohhh nooo they forgot the whole thing and put us right back where we started uh oh whoops''#''awww looks like we're gonna have to have another season''#literally#anyway if i ever start feeling emotions im probably going to start school rumble posting and never stop#schoolrum's so stupid you can only appreciate it emotionally#it's not like nichijou where theres still all this artistry and richness you can still engage with if youre cut off heartwise#i didnt even have emotions when i first watched it but it was still powerful enough to make a visceral impact#but at this point im just too far gone i need a bit of heartspace before i can have any chance of actually registering any of it again#<- finally caved and posted a schoolrum rant after like 5 and a half years on here#its the kind of series that lurks forgotten for years at a time#until one day it jumps out and grabs you and refuses to let go until you rewatch it again#best dub in history btw you didnt know english localization and voice acting could be this good#knocks the original japanese out of the park and truly ties everything together#nichijou japanese and school rumble english are the two best animation dubs of all time

The amount of POV tiktoks I see making fun of Pick Me/Not Like Other Girls is insane. Like "haha imagine being this desperate for male validation"
*throws together a 20 second skit that is near identical to the thousands of other 20 second skits because mocking these girls is what's trendy right now and you are also desperate for validation of some kind*

I watched Ani BEFORE I was a star wars fan and loved it because I love starkid
Now that star wars has consumed my brain I’m scared for what this musical will do to me the next time I watch it

Honestly what you said about corporal punishment made me wonder about amputation in, say, Saudi Arabia. Like, do they put comparable amounts of administrative thought into what ultimately resembles, in effect, Michael Madsen sawing a captive's ear off with a razor?
I don't know about Saudi Arabia, but I do seem to recall that if a victim or a victim's family chooses the lex talionis option in Iran, medical professionals get dragged into amputating the limb (or even in one case, extracting the eye). It's merciful in a way--obviously if you're going to cut off someone's limb, doing it in sterile conditions under anaesthetic is better than not--but it also feels like a parody of medicine, dragooning doctors into explicitly causing someone distress that is supposed to last for the rest of their lives.
The psychology of executioners and torturers is complex--people will, at the end of the day, find a rationale that lets them exist within the system they work in and also sleep at night, if they can--but needless to say, I think it is very rarely good for someone or their worldview to have to normalize inflicting a high degree of suffering for its own sake as acceptable in any context.

an underrated funny bit from a christmas carol is when the ghost of christmas future is taking scrooge around to see everyone's reactions to the death of this unnamed guy (later revealed to be himself ofc), and it turns out that pretty much no one cares. scrooge, increasingly distressed, is like, "can you please show me someone who feels any emotion about this person dying?"
so the spirit takes him to the home of this family. the husband walks up to his wife like, "babe. youre never gonna believe this. that old asshole who we owed an insane of money to just died" and theyre both like YAAAAAAY THIS IS GREAT!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
this bit is like. darkly funny but also so poignant:
[...] and it was a happier house for this man's death! The only emotion that the Ghost could show him, caused by the event, was one of pleasure.

Fully watched a 5 hr video recapping the velma show in great detail bc all the other vids went into just how cringe the first few episodes was and didn't think I'd come out with an appreciation for autistic-coded Fred in the older shows. I remember watching them as a kid and thinking how funny it was that he seemed clueless but then would get so excited when very specific things came up that he would have extensive knowledge abt and it would always help the case. And he would infodump sometimes and everyone would just stare at him for being a nerd. Intentional or not I love it
