Rewatching Voltron and it’s interesting seeing how different the first seasons are to the ending. How everything seemed to be on another path despite also clearly not.

Take Shiro no longer being the black paladin for example

Shiro put a lot more work into bonding with the black lion then Keith eventually does. Given he had to directly fight Zarkon for it.

Honestly it doesn’t even make much sense to have Shiro battle Zarkon for Black when the plan was to have Keith take over.

Wouldn’t that have been a good time for Keith to prove he was worthy of piloting Black? And you wouldn’t necessarily need to make him the black paladin right then and there. He could have helped Shiro defeat Zarkon. Establishing a proper connection without taking over just yet.

Although this doesn’t take into account Keith’s connection to Red.

They’re shown to have a strong bond. With Keith being the first to discover his back cannon thing. Not to mention Red’s “got to go save my idiot” moments. I mean it’s only twice so far but still, two nickels and all that.

I can not recall any moments of bonding between Red and Lance or Blue and Allura. Although I haven’t gotten that far in my rewatch.

And yet the writers were clearly planning for a mech musical chairs. Because Black allowed Keith to pilot them to save Shiro.

In a very obviously shoehorned in way of doing it. The lions have been shown to be quite autonomous, especially when it comes to saving their paladins. So there was no reason Black needed Keith there.

But yeah. There’s a lot of little whiplash moments where they’re dropping hints of Shiro’s death and Keith becoming the leader. While they are also continuing to strengthen the bonds they have with their current lions.

dipper is a weirdly special kind of character to me because I was that type of kid, the one who wanted to grow up too fast and got irritated at their sibling not taking things too seriously and never wanting to seem childlike. i connected heavily with him, and honestly the entire arc of Gravity Falls being in part about him learning to just be a kid really helped me in the long run. it was a great wake up call seeing a character so similar to me at that age learn to finally stop trying to be an adult before i was ready.

Sentient Mystery Shack, who is really biased towards Stan, so when Ford tells Stan he has to give it back after the summer it’s on sight.

Ford keeps tripping over nothing, nothing is where it's supposed to be and somehow he keeps running into closets when he tries to go outside.

But the worst part, the WORST part is that Ford's lightbulb just won't. Work. No matter what he does it keeps flickering and exploding.

Ford is spiraling. 

There is no reason why it shoudln’t work. All his trial runs work perfectly. He’s already checked the Shacks wiring three times and relearned this dimensions science from the ground up. 

Nothing works.

The Rift? Bill? The impending apocalypse? Eating? Sleep? Who cares about that. 

WHY. WONT. THE. LIGHTBULB. WORK???

It doesn’t help that Stan keeps laughing at him.

“Then you do it!” Ford eventually snaps at Stan.

Stan shrugs and with a little song under his breath screws his own lightbulb in. It works perfectly.

Stanford screams.
