cagliostro is one of hayao miyazaki's earliest films, which he made after his work on the lupin iii tv series. since it isn't a ghibli film, it's lesser known among his fans, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deliver. it's unlike any other lupin media; truthfully, it feels like miyazaki's lupin fanfiction, but that's a good thing in my opinion. it blends the goofiness and action of lupin iii's original tone with miyazaki's signature wistfulness and love for pure-hearted heroes. and of course, it features beautiful animation, artwork, and music familiar to lupin and miyazaki fans alike. it's truly a hidden gem in the world of animation!"

It was one of Hayao Miyazaki's first films, and its so underrated; the animation is gorgeous and fluid, the characters are fun, and the story is a great adventure mystery

Pokemon: The Movie 2000

It’s my favorite Pokémon movie (mainly for nostalgia reasons) but it’s got a banging soundtrack and a great sense of humor! Plus the scene of Team Rocket working with Ash and co. always makes me smile

I just realized I completely forgot to congratulate you in my last Ask- so although it's a tad late, allow me to say, great job getting to yet another milestone in the form of 27,000 followers! As I've said before, you deserve every single one and more- your works, both big and small, make bad days brighter and good days even better! I've especially enjoyed the pixel art gags these past few days- "human sans" and "Bingus" in particular- and it seems like many others have too- at this rate, 30,000 is just a few steps away! Almost their!

Also, thanks a million for responding so kindly to my idea regarding the gangs reunion with patty and meeting with Baragara! I'm glad you like it, and regardless of what details you decide on, I just hope we get to see the moment illustrated some day, as emotional as it is epic!

As for my actual Ask today- I was wondering about Grimaces Gigantamax status. As you probably know, some Pokemon species, including Gengar, can take mega evolution to the next level and temporarily grow to Kaiju sizes when exposed to certain types of legendary energy. However, of the 26 compatible species, not all members have the genes necessary to do so. So, even though he is unlikely to be exposed to the energy required to Gigantamax, if he was, would Grimace be among the lucky few of his kind to react? Or does he lack the Gigantamax genes- which, if he does, certainly wouldn't make him any less awesome!

Oh, and also, small goofy side ask I just thought of- since the group usually seems to sleep together, do any of its six ( later eight ) members snore? And if so, have the others grown accustomed to the noise? Or do they "throw a pillow at the problem" so to speak?

As for the Baragara ask, awe! No problem!! :D I've been thinking about his story and how I would draw it.. it just seems like a hefty project to take on in my current state.. <XD

Now hmm.. Gigantimaxing.. Funnily enough the discord server an I actually talked about Grimace potentially Gigantimaxing or mega evolving. You know, for angst reasons XD But the general take away I got is it would requite too specific of an environment and situation for him to mega evolve on accident. If mega evolving on accident is even possible- (I say accident because the group are not intended to know what megastones are or how they work. So its not like Grimace could mega evolve intentionally-)

Gigantimaxing had a similar problem. Requiring too specific of an environment/situation for him to Gigantimax unintentionally. They're not in/from the Galar region, so they don't have access the things needed to Gigantimax.. and since Grimace isn't from Galar, I thought it would stand to reason that he wouldn't have the gigantimax genes..(do only galar region pokemon have the genes..?)

And even if they were in Galar and Grimace had the genes, Gloria would be a roadblock.

If they found like.. a gigantimax den.? She would surly sense the powerful aura and be sketched out. Thus steering the group away. And since Gloria has never steered them wrong before.. no body would disobey her.

It kind'a sucks that I cant find a way for these two scenarios to work out! 😭 I had a lot of fun imagining Grimace mega evolving in a panic to protect the group and then needing Sylvester to talk him down. But needing a megastone, and a keystone..? And somehow having Gloria not get sussed out by the stones powerful aura and not taking it away from Grimace just seems pretty far fetched. Darn you Gloria for being so observant and caring for your friends. 😔

I'm open to ideas of how I can make either idea less specific and more possible though.. 👀👀

As for your last ask, I'd like to say that thankfully none of them snore <XD it would be pretty hard to stay hidden in the forest if you snore!

I talked before about fish Pokemon and that was great, but it's not the only mon series I like. So fuck it, fish Digimon time. This will definitely be less analytical and more me gushing about Digimon I like because I may be a bit out of it right now. Also sorry if I missed any.

Starting at rookie/child level we only have one fish but why would we need more when we have Swimmon?

Loot at it, it's amazing! It's some some sort of tropical fish, obviously, but with some embellishments, like the beak full of teeth. I love how colorful and pointy it is. It works great as a rookie for so many aquatic lines. I think some great lines for it would be Swimmon -> Coelamon -> Piranimon -> MetalPiranhimon or Swimmon -> Tobiumon -> DIvemon -> Surfimon. Speaking of which...

I'm going over champion/adult Digimon together and starting with Coelamon.

It's a coelacanth! Coelacanths are amazing as some of the last lobe-finned fish. In this case, the lobes have been exaggerated into proper limbs, like how lobe-finned fish are the ancestors of tetrapods through intermediate limbed fish stages like tiktaalik. Its armor might also be based on placoderms, extinct fish with bony armor.

We have surprisingly few shark Digimon, but one we do have is Tobiumon, and it's amazing.

A shark with arms that can fly with its fins is such a Digimon concept that all it needs are some guns to be peak Digimon. It even has a remora missile launcher on its chest!

The armor Digimon give us several fish, and while I don't think any of them particularly work as armor evolutions, they're fine as Digimon on their own. And before anyone mentions it, Tylomon is a tylosaurus, not a fish. The first is Manbomon, and while it's a terrible armor evolution for Patamon, A mola mola wearing boxing gloves is such a goofy concept I can't help but love it.

Next is Seahomon, which is pretty obviously a seahorse, but its snout is a trumpet and it has a cape that turns into wings I guess? I dunno, it's a pretty weird one.

My favorite of the three is Mantaraymon. Despite the name, it doesn't have a manta ray's face, instead having a rostrum like a shovelnose ray or even maybe a dolphin. I do like how they used Patamon's ears as the cephalic fins.

Mantaraymon also has a more mechanical X-antibody variant that gives it kind of a stealth fighter vibe. I kind of like it more than the original Mantaraymon, which is saying something since I usually don't like X-antibody Digimon.

Moving onto the ultimate/perfect level we have a new mon from China, Huankunmon.

I love this design so much. Its based on the peng, a mythical creature that can turn from a bird to a fish. Fittingly, Huankunmon's line goes from a bird (Xiquemon) and goes to a bird/fish/dragon hybrid (Xiangpengmon). It'a also based on a flying fish since it can fly with a swimming motion. And it can turn invisible. There's nothing not to love about it.

Next is Piranimon, and look at this absolute beast

Some might call it overdesigned, but I absolutely love it. I particularly dig the tail being a fish hook covered in barbed wire. Its based on a red-bellied piranha, but the pop-culture version where they're bloodthirsty monsters that attack everything they see. Real piranhas are not like that. The helmet it wears may also be based on placoderms, some of which only had the bone armor on the front of their bodies.

Finally at this level, we have Divemon.

I'm not as big of a fan of this as I am of the other two, but I do like the Polynesian-style tattoos it has. Its a combination hammerhead shark and professional swimmer.

Maxing out at the mega/ultimate level we have MetalPiranimon.

While I appreciate any fish megas, I think this is a step down from Piranhimon. It's just a red-bellied piranha with a big metal head dragging around a counterweight. I'm not saying its bad, I'm just saying that Piranhimon is better. Fun fact, Metalpiranhimon came first. Piranhimon was designed because someone thought it was weird that there's a MetalPiranhimon but no regular Piranhimon. There are a few examples of that in Digimon, like SkullBaluchimon coming before Baluchimon.

Next is Regalecusmon, which might be stretching the definition of fish a bit, but it does have an oarfish for a head.

I really like this design, especially it using Zudomon's horn as a sword and what looks like Ebidramon's claw as a shield. I think it would make a great villain for an aquatic episode or storyline of a show. Maybe like a more modern version of MetalSeadramon from Adventure.

Finally, we have Surfimon.

It's a mechanical shark man riding a rocket-powered hammerhead shark surfboard with a buzzsaw on the front. We have reached peak Digimon, people. And even better, it was created by a fan as part of a contest. Frankly, it's a shame that it hasn't gotten any appearances in the anime or games. I don't get why some fan-made Digimon can go onto have major appearances like Dobermon, Cyberdramon, and SoundBirdmon while others get ignored. A lot of them don't even have art. I'd be pretty bummed if I was a kid who won a contest to have my design become official and then it was never used. I think Surfimon should get an anime appearance and the English dub should make it talk like a Californian surfer dude.

Have you read Bogleech's review of Pokemon designs? They're pretty good and thoughtful. You won't always agree with them but it's cool to see someone confident and defined in their own aesthetic tastes critique the most popular monsters in the world.

Oh yeah! I've definitely read some of these back when there were way less of them.

I find that I tend to agree with him when the principles behind the critique are simply good visual character design ethos, and then less so where it's more focused around his particular tastes within that - he tends to favour a particular sort of goofiness in the facial design that's a sometimes food for me.

Similarly, there's some loose agreement around this (eg his praise of sticking with quadruped designs during evolution) but in general I find that I have a strong but hard to define (except in the negative) notion of the sort of thing a Pokémon is and should be that he doesn't especially share.

Like for me fundamentally a Pokémon is a sort of critter or imp or embodied spirit or idk in a way that just doesn't work if it's too humanlike or too obviously referential of human creations (except in certain specific situations that basically come down to it actually being a haunted, animated object or a mimic).

As an illustrative example, the much-maligned Gen 1 anthromorphs I don't actually mind.

Jynx is based on a kind of ice spirit that imitates a young maiden to lure men to their deaths, and like, yeah, totally. It looks like something that is not human trying to look vaguely human for nefarious purposes, every aspect of its design from the shadowy lack of face to the animate wig to the weird dress-shaped body is giving that.

Mr Mime looks like an example of convergent evolution - it has an ultimately human-ish shape but it's entirely built out of Pokémon parts. I imagine it would be weirdly smooth and dry and a little bit too yielding to the touch. The 'gloves' are part of its body and the protrusions that this flesh covers are evolutionarily unrelated to human hands, perhaps cartilage or rigid muscle or something. It is a bit like 'why' but whatever mimes are eldritch you wouldn't want a lot of Pokémon to be like this but as a one-off its fine.

Both of these things are entirely distinct from being just like an anthro animal with no especial reason to be anthro, that's made of sleek lines and shit like it's supposed to be cool or even sexy. (Mr Mime is not cool or sexy!)

On a kinda-similar note one thing I've had a lot of scathing things to say about at home lately is the Vanillish line. (Pokémon shouldn't be food!) Like its ability and stuff suggests that it's meant to be an ice elemental so why on earth would it look like an ice cream that just makes no sense.

The only way they could save it for me is if it looked like an ice cream in order to get unsuspecting children to lick it, who are then stuck by their tongues and in danger of freezing to death and becoming its prey. Or something. (Same reason it's okay for Galarian stunfisk to have a protrusion that looks like a pokeball - motherfucker is a mimic, of course it looks like an item you could pick up!)

it’s honestly quite simple, i’ve just been losing interest in most aspects of kpop aside from the music, which makes writing for it a lot harder than before. i also dealt with a lot of burn out for months and still forced myself to write which only made it worse. lastly, i’m an executive of two clubs at my school this year on top of all my classes, so finding time to write would be even worse than it was before :’) !

Each lifers will have one ‘fully’ evolved pokemon that I believe suits them in all of the life series ( series such as X life or New life will not be included).

Bdubs: ✨ Scrafty

- Both enjoy fighting and look like they get beaten up often even if no fights happened that day.

- It’s a shiny because Shiny Scrafty’s green clothes (?) is reminiscent of Bdubs’ moss cape skin.

BigB: Breloom

- A kind being that should not be taken lightly.

- Also Breloom’s spores can paralyze or poison opponents, just like BigB paralyzed Grian with his gaslighting and can easily poison others by lying.

Cleo: Delphox

- Arson fox that is super effective against Etho’s pokemon and BigB’s.

-Also a reference to Witchcraft!SMP where she was one of the finalists. Plus Orange hair so Orange pokemon.

Etho: Bisharp

- Etho reminds me so much of the Shadow Triad so I decided to give him their titular Pokemon.

- I considered Greninja but as a redstoner, Etho might not appreciate the water.

- Plus it’s funny when the two scary looking beings are actually the most easily frightened.

- Fun fact, Bisharp hasn’t battled in so long that its blades have almost become dull (both are washed up /j).

Geminitay: Bewear

- In Limited Life she acts like a mama bear towards Scar.

- Is overall very friendly but is a menace (especially towards Etho).

- Now that she’s in Secret Life, Bewear works well with the cherry blossom and band theme she has going on.

- Plus, just like Bewear accidentally harms others by trying to show affection, Gem hurts herself and her allies by creating other alliances that don’t last.

Grian: Archeops

- Pesky bird.

- I put Toucannon at first and almost put Honchkrow but both look too serious to be associated with Grian.

- So goofy prehistoric parrot that is easily demotivated (defeatist ability) for the button man.

Impulse: Ampharos

- The yellow color scheme as well as the fact that Impulse is generally more on the kind, gentle side but is also able to hold his own.

Jimmy: Kilowatrel

- Canary in a coal mine.

- Kilowatrel is one of the best yellow bird Pokemon that isn’t too mocking ( Yellow Oricorio) or too serious ( Pidgeoto/Blaziken/ shiny Sirfetch’d).

- The pre-evolution looks a bit silly tho.

Joel: ✨Turtonator

- An explosive fella.

- Also a Pokemon that serve as a reminder that most of Joel’s trap/plan either don’t work or backfire on him or his allies.

- Shiny Turtonator because the shiny colors match Joel’s Green and yellow color scheme.

Lizzie: Togekiss

- Avoids conflict and is generally content with roaming around, peacefully picking flowers. Head in the clouds.

- But remains a strong and smart opponent that shouldn’t be underestimated.

Martyn: Trevenant

- A fierce and loyal protector of his home but still remains a solitary being.

- Trevenant’s ability to blend in with the surrounding trees in forest and gather information by communicating with the forest, is a nod to Martyn’s ability to sneak around undetected gathering valuable intel.

Mumbo: Sableye

- Hermit hiding away in the shadows (bunker) and using (end) crystals to attack.

Pearl: ✨ Absol

- Wherever they go, disaster soon follows. Seeing them is a warning to all.

- Shiny Absol because the colors matches with the ‘Scarlet Pearl’ skin.

Rendog: Sirfetch’d

- A king and a knight, unwilling to let go of their flair for the dramatics even after their kingdom as fallen. I thought of Kingambit or Aegislash but both are too serious and only fit 3rd Life Ren. Sirfetch’d is regal yet remains goofy like Ren.

Scar: Liepard

- Shady business man and his cat jellie. Both mischievous and not against stealing.

- Also it would be funny to picture all the Jellie interruptions as just him talking to his very real Pokemon partner.

- Jellie would definitely try to eat Grian’s Archeops.

Scott: ✨ Gallade

- Always honorable and upholding their end of the deal. But aren’t against using force to achieve what they want.

- Shiny so that the colors match ( also provides a good contrast to Pearl’s shiny Absol).

Skizzleman: Braviary

- A brave being that leads the team.

- All of Braviary’s dex entry mentions it battling for its friend even if it’s injured.

- The pokemon White dex entry mentions that the more scars a Braviary has, the more respect he’s has from his peers. Skizzleman’s skin has scars on its arms.

- Also Skizz is often represented with angel wings so why not give him a bird.

- I don’t know if it should be a shiny or not however.

Tango: Rapidash

- A being with a unruly temper that does not take kindly to betrayal or competition.

- Could have helped with the whole Torchy task.

- Tango is often represented with hair that lights on fire when upset, just like Rapidash’s mane burns hotter when upset or fighting.

Review of raging bolt?

(This is a special review to commemorate the new Pokemon Presents. Reviews will go back to being in the order in which they were sent after this.)

My coworker watched the presents before I had a chance to and showed me Raging Bolt, and my exact response was to laugh and go "hmm. no, I can't ever take that seriously"

Now, having looked at its official art (which looks remarkably better than the in-game model, due to the mane being up and the general pose being clearer), I can safely say... it's still goofy as hell. HOWEVER, despite that, I do find myself liking it in a silly, over-the-top way.

In fact—and this is gonna be a hot take—I like this better than Walking Wake. I think the reason is that Walking Wake felt like a dinosaur with Suicine elements slapped onto it, while this feels a lot more like Raikou despite being a brontosaurus (mostly because its still quadrupedal with a similar shape to the base of the body).

But I also like it a bit more because it's got a pretty cool concept going for it, with the mane forming a spiral of storm clouds, the body looking like a bolt of lightning coming from said clouds, and Raikou's tail forming dinosaur-like spines (compared to Walking Wake, which was just kind of there). The disc-like shape to the head combined with the long neck is actually a pretty neat monster design, and gives it a distinctive silhouette. Also, brontosaurus literally means "thunder lizard", so bonus points for that.

That said, it does have a few weird quirks. For example, it looks even sillier than normal when the mane moves away from the face like this, which was at least part of the reason I didn't vibe with it initially.

The colors are also pretty messy. The orange is actually very pretty and striking, and it goes great with the tiger striping (which, in turn, works really well with how it's patterned on the neck). However, this gives it four separate colors in the design, plus black and white. I feel like either the blue parts should've been orange, or all of the orange parts should've been blue (the later might've made more sense, as they were probably trying to keep the same blue from Raikou's palette, even if I like the pop of the orange).

Raikou's checks also look weird as heck on a body like this; another benefit of keeping the mane around the head. On the plus side, they did fix Raikou's terrible butt tufts or whatever was going on back there originally.

Anyway, overall, it's kind of a neat design and is at least fun with an interesting concept, even if it looks absolutely ridiculous. I don't necessarily love it, but I can't bring myself to hate it either.

(Also, quick side note: some people are speculating this means we'll get the designs in the journal, which would be amazing, but the design there has absolutely none of the paradox attributes. We'll have to wait and see.)

my thoughts so far on the characters in scarlet.

koraidon is adorable. i cant believe miraidon is apparently more popular. miraidon has that robot dog toy from the early 00s appeal sure but koraidon is just soooo cute. chicken lizard creature. its SO goofy how its tail and its chest frills thingies turn into wheels but it still runs on its silly frog legs. love that. also im loving the skyrim terrain horse riding experience it provides i think thats exactly what pokemon was missing

● Ingo certainly can come across as a normal everyday man despite his urge to dress in seasonally inappropriate clothing for his aesthetics. You did not get the feeling that he was any different from the other customers you got often. In fact, you found yourself quite entranced with conversations with him as he discussed a variety of topics ranging from competitive battling to different engine types in trains. You didn't consider him to be anyone out of the ordinary.

● In fact, you had already started your relationship with him when you even learnt of just what his job was. After a date, you both decided to head to his place over yours, and you found yourself stunned at where he led you. At first, you thought it was a joke, seeing the elite hi-rise apartment building, but Ingo quickly swiped a key card and to open the door to an upper level apartment.

● Your mind was blown by the interior of the room, too. Expensive furniture and decorations laid inside, with a well-made and large model train set covering a decent portion of the living room. Ingo gazed at you carefully as you held your strange expression. It was then that something clicked in his head. “… You do know where I work, don't you?” He asked, and you shook your head.

● It was honestly terrifying to learn that Ingo worked at such a large corporation as a CEO. His wealth was something more than you could comprehend, only knowing that he definitely made more in an hour than you likely did in a week. Shattered was the image of a normal, albeit train-obsessed, man, and in its place stood an impossibly wealthy man. Ingo sighed at your obvious distress.

● “… I… I'm sorry,” he started with a recognisable politeness that he always tried to hold, “I was not trying to hide such information from you… Ah, perhaps this will make me sound even worse, but I'm quite used to people already knowing who I am and my job…” Ingo's eyes averted your gaze as he turned to look at the floor with pure shame exuding from him. You could still see the sweet guy who had caught your attention, but you still felt hesitant to even reach out to him.

● This led to Ingo working endlessly hard to reassure you that he didn't allow his status and wealth to affect who he was (too much). He understands your worries, always trying to be deeply understanding towards you. Part of him did want to shower you in gifts and whatever else you could ask for, but he resisted out of respect for you. Truly, he works desperately to make sure you don't feel as if he is some cruel, wealthy baron. Ingo wants you to see him as a person.

● In the end, it's truly on you whether or not you can accept him. Ingo will do countless things to help you change how you came to view him after learning about his job, and will respect your decision to leave if you can't feel happy with him. If you do come around to it, however, he begs you to let him spoil you just a little. He wants to express his love in many, many forms.

○ Emmet barely acts like a CEO when he's off the clock, so it was little wonder how you came to view him as just another person. He eagerly chatted about sweets, pokemon battling, Joltik breeding, and trains. You felt like he was just another person living in Nimbasa, just as you were. His excitable nature made you fall for him quickly. Emmet was merely a playful, fun guy to be around. Sure, he took you to some more pricey places for dates, but it wasn't something that out of the ordinary when he also took you out to random dessert stands, too.

○ That was why it came as a surprise when he brought you to one of the most expensive apartment buildings in the city after a date and wanted to go over to his place. Emmet giggled as he swiped his key card on a door on one of the upper floors of the building. You were nearly in shock from it all.

○ The inside was decorated with obviously expensive furnishings and decor. None of it necessarily screamed 'Emmet,' so you could only presume an interior decorated had chosen it. Well, excluding a large and detailed model train set that chugged along endlessly in the living room. Your obvious shock made Emmet tense up noticeably, like he had just realised something, too. “Ah… Darling, I forgot to tell you about my job,” a nervous giggle came from him as he stared directly at the floor.

○ Learning that Emmet worked as high-ranking executive at a large corporation came as a shock. It made no sense when you considered his hobbies and behaviours. Nothing screamed cut-throat businessman. Moments of a certain harshness and intimidation from him entered your brain as you gazed at him. It was hard to view him as the same fun-loving guy.

○ “... I liked being with you,” his voice was soft, like a scared child's own might sound, “I hate being my work self around friends and lovers… I am sorry for not telling you.” His normally proud and strong body language deflated into something pathetic and desperate. Even so, you felt betrayed by him hiding that from you, and how terrifying the idea of him making more in a day than you did in a month. You took a step back away from him.

○ Emmet desperately reaches out to you and babbles out endless apologies, begging you to stay with him. The younger twin will do anything to prove himself to you. He loves being with you and wants to show you that he isn't like whatever presumptions rushed into your head after finding out. Emmet probably seems quite sad with how desperate he is, he knows, but you are someone he feels at ease with. Poor guy goes between buying you gifts and realising that you would probably hate that so many times.

○ Ultimately, it's on you whether or not you will be able to get past your obvious aversion to Emmet's wealth and status. He may put up a fight until you explicitly tell him that you want to end things. In which case, he will respect your decision and leave you be. If you wish to try, however, he clings to you and thanks, you so many times. Emmet truly just wants another person in his life that sees him for who he is and not his title or wealth, he knows verrry well that you do.

Pokemon and Hunter x Hunter as decided by my friend @doodle-storm after only seeing Hunter Exam and Zoldyck Family Arcs... Part 2!!! As always friend, add onto this post if there's any reasoning I've missed!

Netero: Medicham (I think the rationale here was that despite looking a little goofy, it's actually quite strong. I think this guy is very appropriate for Netero, for reasons I can't tell my friend yet.)

Hanzo: Greninja (It's a ninja pokemon. However, my friend laments the fact that Greninja is not bald enough, nor does it have "bedazzled eyebrows". She has therefore made an entire team for Hanzo that is purely comprised of bald and bedazzled eyebrow pokemon. She took this very seriously I'll have you know.)

Pokkle: Decidueye (An archer! She hopes Pokkle gets to finish his pokedex.)

Satotz: Omanyte (I honestly can't remember the initial reasoning but they both have mustaches and no visible mouth so that's cool.)

Menchi: Dachsbun (Bread dog. As befitting a Gourmet Hunter.)

Buhara: Snorlax (Probably needs little elaboration.)

Lippo: Rotom (Because of all the cameras in the prison and the fact that he operated from behind screens using electronics.)

Beans: Politoed (She can picture politoed in an identical suit.)

Tonpa: Trubbish (...she does not like Tonpa very much.)

Ponzu: Beedrill (Bee pokemon. She has bees in her hat.)

Bendot: Machoke (He's a fighter pokemon. Also he was going to choke Tonpa so there's that too.)

Sedokan: Litwick (It's a candle. It's also got one eye hidden.)

Majitani: Wishiwashi (We spent a long time trying to find a pokemon that sort of gives that impression of guy trying to look way more intimidating than he is... She decided on Wishiwashi because its school form is powerful but it also reverts back to weaker solo form when wounded.)

Leroute: Salazzle (I did not know there were pokemon people thirsted for and I don't think I needed to know that. Anyways, Salazzle is kind of an exotic creature and she was involved in exotic animal trafficking so. Checks out.)

Johness the Dissector: none. (She tried to think of one but really couldn't. We both kind of agreed that he probably wouldn't have any on account of... probably killing them.)

Geretta: Aromatisse (I don't know lol. I think this was just vibes.)

Agon: Galarian Farfetch'd (He appeared to have been a fencer so I think this was the closest thing. Plus eyebrows.)

Bodoro: Gallade (She was trying to think of an honourable type of pokemon. I don't think she was entirely sold on Gallade, especially since she gave Kurapika one later on, but we moved on.)

Bourbon: Seviper (Viper for the snake charmer.)

Nicholas: Abra (Abra just kind of sleeps, and though Nicholas tried to predict the Hunter Exam, he wasn't prepared for it, so I think that was the rationale here.)

Siper: Inteleon (A sniper pokemon for the sniper. I questioned why she was giving this minor character a pokemon when I'm pretty sure she didn't even have a speaking line, to which she replied, and I quote, "Yeah, but I want her to step on me.")

Sommy: Aipom (Mischievous monkey for the monkey trainer.)

Todo: Hariyama (Sumo pokemon for the sumo guy.)

Amori Brothers: Falinks (Yes, all three of them have the same pokemon. They work together for team attacks and so do the brothers. Do not separate.)

Zeno: Roaring Moon (I brought up Zeno's association with dragons. She liked the vibe of this one for him.)

Silva: Kommo-o (I think she wanted to keep the dragon theming. ...she also refers to Silva as "evil He-Man". Just thought you should know.)

Kikyo: Hatterene (She picked this one because of its elegant look... and the fact that it attacks anyone who is too loud or hostile within its home range.)

Illumi: Ferrothorn (It's absolutely perfect omg. She said it attacks using spikes and thorns, and it also "has the eyes". She also cheerfully informed me it's weak to fire. She does not like Illumi very much.)

Milluki: Forretress (Also has the eyes, and stays in a shell. It shoots things I think. She was trying to pick one that calls to mind Milluki's bombs.)

Kalluto: Kartana (I mentioned Kalluto's association with paper, so she picked this one.)

Gotoh: Meowth (For the coin association. Also she thought it'd be kind of funny if all the butlers had cat or cat-like pokemon.)

Canary: Espeon (Because it evolves based on friendship... augh... also vibes.)

Zebro: Cinccino (Zebro's kind of the janitor, and Cinccino likes to clean, if I'm remembering correctly? Also it's kind of disarmingly cute and harmless looking, which fits Zebro's "taking the key from the hapless guard" shtick.)

Ok so, I have only ever watched one episode of Adventure Time, and it was on a hotel room TV, in terrible hindi dub, and I barely remember it on account of being 10(?) but it horrified me.

I remember the MCs trying to get Ice King a girlfriend or something, but he keeps being a gross asshole so they take him to a lake and point at some swans to try and explain love to him. They point to two swans kissing like ':D' and he's like 'ewww' and then the male swan suCKS IN AND EATS THE FEMALE and IK's like ':)))' while the boys stare in horror.

IDR how the episode ended or how much I watched, but I remember thinking 'wow american cartoons are hardcore. I'm sticking to pirated pokemon from now on.'

oh my god im so sorry but imagining you watching that swan scene as a 10 year old is so fucking funny, i can understand why you stuck with pirated pokemon LOL

adventure time is absolutely very fucked up in a lot of different ways. the early seasons leaned into that type of absurd shit you just described a lot more especially. while the later ones actually started getting more existential and building on the worlds lore.

there wasnt exactly a focused plot, per say. i mean, there was, but it wasnt something methodical and planned out, it was played by ear. and i think it really worked. the way they did it turned out a really cool magic system (based on the idea that reality is just collective perception, and magic users are aware of this and can manipulate perception ergo reality. but the more cosmic knowledge you have the more insane or depressed you become etc especially if youre mortal), and also cool world building (it takes place in a post apocalypse after a nuclear war, now far into the future the face of the earth has completely changed but the horrors unleashed still impact it today), and also a lot of really amazing themes (the world is always changing and nothing is ever permanent, but no matter how things change things also stay the same, in a different way. especially where bonds and love are concerned. everything stays.)

and YEAH there are lesbians (i mean i always hc marcy as bi but still). and they also come from the shows improvisational nature. theres a lot of genuinely really amazing relationships and plotpoints born out of that to me. like, as the show starts to get a lot more thematically dense later on it can seem like a weird shift. some ppl say it got pretentious over time bc its not as goofy (its still pretty goofy lol), but i think it worked... like... perfectly.

because its a coming of age story where the main character actually ages, it actually feels so right that the world around him begins to seem different too. it makes sense that when he was 12 we were doing stupid goofy adventures, when he was 15 we were watching him deal with a lot of really fucked up trauma, and when he was 17 we watched him learn to grow as a person who thinks beyond simple terms of good and evil.

i know im tottaaallly rambling at this point but theres really an insane amount to talk about with adventure time. the timeline alone is ridiculous. but mostly i think my passion comes down to the fact that i was also growing up with the story, always around the same age as the mc going through similar stuff... even now, the story is focusing on a depressed 20-something trying to find whimsy in her life again. and technically the last episode timeline-wise is about accepting death lol

so like idk how exactly id recommend it to a new viewer, its really possible that a lot of ppl wont be able to really tolerate the early seasons as adults (i mean, i think theyre charming, but i have nostalgia goggles lol). that being said i think that its a series totally worth a shot for everyone... eventually. if it sounds interesting you just gotta accept the goofiness at first and trust that youre in for something wild in a totally different way later on. and totally unique and cool and special in a way nothing else has really been able to capture for me since.

TL;DR: no yeah the show was incredibly fucked up and that swan did eat that other swan. but it does have themes and also lesbians.

Ahhhh, my doodles for my N in Hisui AU are finally done! (More info about the AU and the individual drawings under the cut)

I've been thinking about this AU for such a long time, I'm glad I finally got something about it put down visually.

So, this is my N as the P:LA protag AU. Don't have a solid title for it yet. The basis of it is that he's yoinked from Unova in the middle of B&W, so he's still King of Team Plasma and still wholly believes in their cause.

Why he was called there is much of the same as the original protag; Arceus just chose him this time instead. And, oh boy. Does he have some thoughts about being forced to complete a Pokedex of all things. And these Pokeballs? Not a fan of them.

He also greatly dislikes the Galaxy Team and their goal of documenting all the Pokemon in Hisui but he begrudgingly works with them, as it's the only way to complete the Pokedex. That's the only way to get back home, back to Team Plasma and liberating the Pokemon of Unova, after all. And when the creator of all calls you to do something, you can't really not listen.

But what he does like? He loves how little humans have touched the past. Besides Jubilife Village and the Diamon and Pearl settlements, it's all wilderness, Pokemon living free. (He also greatly approves of the Clans' decision to not use Pokeballs and really thinks the Galaxy Team could learn from them.) Hisui is definitely giving him some ideas for what he wants his ideal world to look like.

Across the way, N meets a Hisuian Zorua that he quickly befriends. He's very saddened at the state of them and how bitter they've become towards the world. And the fact that they're ghosts doesn't help...

Past or present, no matter what, N's dislike of Pokeballs remains the same. He is however intrigued at the idea of handcrafting them. At least then, it feels a little more personal when you catch a Pokemon. He's a bit confused about the latches though.

Hisui is still dangerous and no amount of being able to talk to Pokemon is going to save you from the harsh world beyond Jubilife's walls. N quickly learns that not all of his friends are too keen about him.

N still wears his goofy little necklace tucked safely under his Galaxy Team uniform (that he hates wearing but he can't deny its comfort). A little piece of home carried with him. (Not pictured: His puzzle cube that he made extra space in his bag specifically for. Too dangerous to let that thing being hanging out of his pocket in the environment he's constantly in.)

Unfortunately, having hair as long as N's is a bit of a liability when you're doing survey work and he reluctantly gets it chopped off when Arezu comes around. He very much misses it and vows that he'll never cut it again, even if it's inconvenient. He feels a lot lighter now though. It's a weird feeling.

One of my favourite headcanons for Emmet is that he's the first follow rules but also the first to break them. Like one of his catchphrases is 'Follow the rules' but its in regards to his safety checks and he always struck me as someone who'd break stupid rules. He'd take a rule like 'no running in the halls' very seriously but wouldn't care for a 'no hugging' rule unless you could prove that hugging is actually dangerous.

(Also believe that both twins are quite hypocritical when it comes to rules and probably do break them quite regularly despite enforcing them but that's more for comedy reasons or just being too comfy with their jobs and it's silly things like trying to jump the subway turnstiles when leaving.)

I think it's less that he's hypocritical by breaking the rules and more like slightly bending them or finding loopholes whenever it's necessary. An important skill while working facing the public tbh. But heck yeah, they be goofy as heck, beloved clowns.

Emmet is just the more physically impulsive, but I HC that Ingo is impulsive as well, just mentally instead of physically. Like in pokemon battles and earthquake for example pfpfpf. More visible when playing games or other things that require focus and thinking things very through.

That's why Emmet would be best at strategizing or would beat Ingo in mental/board games, yet would lose in video games (his hands would move the controller before his mind caught up, so F).

As for the 'no hugging', I actually think that would be respected. At least towards the person that requested it. They presented their boundaries and it's important not to cross them unless absolutely necessary (as in physically pulling them from danger by grabbing them, for example). So, let's say Ingo post eeby returns home and asks for no touching bc Pearl Clan. Emmet would respect that. It's just polite to extend the same courtesy to other people.

I wasn't going to make or post one myself at first. (Despite having made this, I'm kind of not really into the tiermaker thing? I have issues with like "top 10" lists and other arbitrary rankings because I just feel like I don't have enough of a real criteria or where to start.) But it seemed in poor taste to invite people to show off their bad taste in waifus and not offer up my own vulnerability. So go ahead, judge my taste

Doing this just reminds me why I actually really appreciate things like dragonflycave's crazy huge pokemon sorter that just feeds to either-or/greater than/equal to prompts until it works out its own mathematical score, instead of making me drag that shit around manually. (The Pokemon fav. character sorter here on tubmlr too)

Clearly, what I really need is to invent some kind of needlessly complex 3 dimensional tagging, scoring and charting system that determines proximities and shared borders and relative positioning for you and then lets you zoom around them in VR like it's a fucking star wars galaxy map

I hate that now that I actually finished this dumb thing, I've still got the itch to fuck around with clippings, and it's making me considering making a husbando one, even though I specifically said I wouldn't......

Also silly question, but am I the only person who gets like seemingly disproportionately hung up on bad anime hair? Hime cuts and blunt bangs are just a hard demerit for me for some reason... Similar with straight bob cuts. And, like, Pokemon has a strong thriving waifu based fandom, but some of their goofy ass hair is just too much to look past for me.
