Michelangelo's David
Whenever I thought of the David by Michelangelo, I always pictured it being a human-sized statue, for some reason. I guess pictures online and images from school books gave me this perception. The Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze is where the masterpiece by Michael Angelo ,The David ,is located. This gallery also had other works of artists such as Botticelli and a few others that are known for having worked with and taught Michelangelo himself. Once I entered the hall where the statue of David was, I was in awe to see how big the statue in reality was. I’m still very much shocked to know that this statue that was made in 1500’s and that it was done with such preciseness, amazing proportions, and just aesthetically beautiful. A little incident actually occurred while we were there, observing and admiring the statue. Someone’s toddler ran into the surrounding prohibited area around David. It was pretty humorous to watch as the baby would run in circles around the statue not letting himself be caught by his parents as the security guard grew with anger and frustration. I think one of my teachers got a video of it. I have to say the David is a must-see if visiting Florence.

In order to appreciate Leonardo's influence on modern design thinking, one must first recognize him as the epitome of the cross-disciplinary approach. Born in the heart of the Renaissance, a time when knowledge was pursued with unprecedented fervor, da Vinci exemplified the quintessential "Renaissance Man". His curiosity knew no bounds, delving into diverse disciplines such as art, engineering, anatomy, architecture, and even music. It was this insatiable curiosity that set the stage for the kind of integrative thinking that forms the core of today's design thinking.
One example of da Vinci's cross-disciplinary approach can be found in his study of anatomy. His detailed sketches of the human body, derived from numerous dissections, showed not only an advanced understanding of physiological structures, but also a keen artistic eye. The intricate details of muscle, bone, and sinew present in his sketches demonstrate the application of scientific knowledge to artistic endeavour—truly, an early manifestation of design thinking.

More art inspired by my recent trip to Europe. This one is based on the drowned church tower I saw in Italy. The village of Curon was flooded to create a hydroelectric plant in the 1950's and this tower is all that remains.
Closeup of the cats~
Here's a sneak peek of how I painted this. The full hours long video process will be DMed on my Patreon on Sept 5
The photo I took, it was raining so I did it really quick, you can even see my finger in the corner trying to cover the camera lol

Stone cooking supports used to grill skewers of meat by Minoans on Santorini, circa 3600 years old. The line of holes in the base supplied coals with oxygen. Many consider modern "souvlaki" street kebabs a direct descendant of this portable food system. Museum of Prehistoric Thera, Greece. More: https://thetravelbible.com/museum-of-artifacts/

Capella Branccaci
In Florence on a more laid-back day, we visited the Capella Branccaci. This chapel had artwork from artists, such as Masaccio, Masolino and of course Brancacci. The paintings had a very pale and pastel color to them while we were there it seemed like they were in construction and there were lots of barriers with plastic and other forms of construction built up. I believe they might have been reconstructing different areas of the Capella. After exiting the Capella we had a small break, and I was touched to learn that our guide Francesco’s grandmother actually lives right in front of the chapel, and he planed to go visit her on our hour break.
It was so nice to see that for Francesco. This is home for him and he has loved ones nearby that he can visit and pass time with. But for us it was a whole New World as we walk the streets as tourists. While on our break, we ran into what seemed like a big flea market. The moment was cool to see everyone shopping and enjoying the Center Square. There was a nice Homie feel that surrounded the town of the Capella of Branccaci.
