sleepwalking has a place forever in my heart now, it's confirmed. there's so much history between these two... of course they're in love and together forever...how could they not be. anything else is out of the question. it's so painful knowing you can love someone and still make such irreparable mistakes and still not have that love lose its meaning. but it all comes back at the end in the story, so one can only hope reality is as beautiful! i love love love the scene where jk listens through the playlist. in both this story and your other jk fic you've used music so meaningfully -- are you in some way professionally involved in music or is this out of hobby, I'm curious? it's so beautiful regardless. hi i'm new to this fandom so this might be a stupid question but who is responsible for vecna's death spree? is it brenner, or edward, or the other brenner? or is it a metaphor for something?

I guess I'm just wondering what you mean, exactly, when you say "Vecna's death spree". Like...the 4.07 massacre? The 4 teens in 1986? Because there are a variety of different possibilities no matter which one we address, and I can't give you a singular answer with the information we have.

For example: Assuming that the 4.07 massacre was real, TFS brings into question the influence of the Mindflayer. Was Henry/Edward responsible for the kids' deaths? Where does that line get drawn? How much influence does Brenner have here—not even supernaturally, just as a function of his motivations with the lab overall? There's no doubt that "Henry" was cornered during 4.07. Assuming the Mindflayer wasn't involved...can we blame him for being that situation with its subsequent lack of options he deemed "good", or do we blame Brenner for creating a situation like that in the first place? Do we blame the government for funding this kind of laboratory? Do we blame Virginia for putting her son in a position where he could end up imprisoned in HNL?

And alongside that, if the Mindflayer was involved, do we blame it for targeting Henry and putting Virginia in a situation where she turns on him? Do we blame the US government for messing around with dangerous things they don't understand all the way back in 1943, if that part of TFS happens to pertain directly to filmed canon? Where do we draw the line? Who is responsible?

...Does it matter?

My point being: Everyone had a hand in it, and it's kind of useless to try and point fingers like "well, if he hadn't done xyz, then it wouldn't have happened." "well, if she hadn't done xyz, then he wouldn't have been in a situation where he would do xyz." "well—" so on and so forth.

The same goes if you're talking about the 4 teens in 1986.

Say, for example: "Edward is Vecna, thus Edward is responsible, not Henry or Brenner". Yeah, but only insofar as "Edward physically committed the murders". The strictness with which he adheres to personally killing only as many as he needs tells me that that was a means to an end to escape the inhumane prison that is Dimension X/the UD. Who put him in that prison? El, as far as we know. Is she responsible for those deaths, then? No, as far as we're told she was a frightened child when it happened. We can't blame her for that. Then...is Brenner responsible for her being in that situation? And who made Brenner the way he is? It sounds like his father had a hand in it. Does that matter? The man's been dead since 1943. Should I exhume him and put him on trial for things that happened 43 years after his death?

And, tangentially, if the Mindflayer does have influence here, can we even say Vecna/Edward is responsible for killing the kids, regardless of who physically did it? Do you blame the knife or the one who wields it? The gun dealt the gunshot wound that killed the man, but we put the one who pulled the trigger in jail. If Vecna is a weapon, can we blame him?

Assigning blame ends up doing us very little tangible good. The point is figuring out how to stop what's happening now, and if the person doing that is Edward or Henry or Brenner...it doesn't particularly matter. Whoever it is needs to be stopped, whether that means freeing that person from the influence of the Mindflayer and saving them or putting them out of their/our misery.

if we're getting into og yogs stuff, the fact that a ton of new mcyt fans probably dont know about early rp series like Shadow of Israphel is mind-boggling to me, especially when it was one of the earliest/largest minecraft roleplay series i can think of? meta-wise it was played really similar to an adventure map, where Lewis and Simon (Xephos and Honeydew) ran around this huge world finding shit, interacting with NPCs, and eventually defeating Israphel, who was this creeper looking motherfucker. I remember it being this huge world with steampunk-type shit that they and their friends built from the ground up, and they interacted with NPCs only through game chat but all the NPCs were played by their friends? its been so long that i cant fully remember the full plot but it was my first introduction to like,, storytelling through minecraft as a kid and it was so cool

blackrock chronicles was also a yogs series by rythian and zoey that was less improv-based and more scripted? it was definitely still improv but you could tell they had a clear cut story they were telling. i vaguely remember rythian being an angsty, broody wizard who served an ender deity (ender queen? ender dragon?) who was madly in love with zoeya, ray of sunshine, light of my life, heavily involved in fungal politics and led a rebellion against the reigning mushroom empire, and also she had a baby who was a straight up volcano,, iirc it was also on the same bigs yogscast tekkit server

also bringing in non yogs, the only long running minecraft series ive consistently watched has been by achievement hunter? who has consistently been putting out weekly minecraft lets plays since the game came out on console. over the years theres been a bunch of different arcs/series within it where theyve been like, Kings competing in challenges and passing around the crown, repeated gods of new worlds in different skyblock series, and recently theyve done a ton of hardcore survival series that have been SO INCREDIBLY dramatic and also so easy to consume bc all their povs are condensed into one nice pov

i think we should make a trend of telling dsmp-exclusive (and hermitcraft-exclusive for that matter) mcyt fans about like. how wild other series get? i don’t want them to have all the fun for their fandom being confusing for outsiders. i think they deserve to know that other mcyt series get Just As Wild, If Not Wilder

Chapter 10 -  I Ruin a Perfectly Good Bus

Theme of the day: Foresight

Foresight can basically have two meanings: prudence or provision for the future, and being able to see the future. There was a bit of both in this chapter!

We get a look into what the trio packs for their quest, including items that Chiron/CHB provides. They get useful provisions like ambrosia and nectar for wounds, mortal cash and drachmas for all their regular and godly transactions. Percy has very few possessions with him at the camp, as was already mentioned when he moved to cabin 3, so he just has basic essentials. Annabeth has a cool hat and a wicked dagger, but also a book bc a girl’s gotta stay entertained somehow while stuck traveling with two boys across the country lol. Grover has his items to disguise himself as human, a reed pipe for his goat magic except he only knows two (2) songs, and lots of snacks for the long roadtrip. Although most of all this gets destroyed at the end of the chapter sjdkfhs. But just when you think Percy is going out their weaponless, he receives good old Riptide! Whoever enchanted her must’ve been like there’s a kid who’ll use this in the future who can’t keep pens on him for the life of him and they’re probably the realist person in this series. Did Percy a solid lol.

The Hermes shoes Luke gives to Percy, at face value, is foresight on Luke’s part. Seemingly, he wants them to help Percy in someway on his quest. I completely forgot about the shoes tbh, but they’re an important part of the plot later on lol, and a clue to who the traitor is. Because they’re programed to drag the wearer into Tartarus when they enter the underworld and deliver certain godly attributes to a certain Titan. So ig the shoes are Luke’s foresight, just not in the way we might initially expect. Although he definitely didn’t have the foresight that Percy wouldn’t be the one wearing the shoes lmao. Should’ve thought about how a son of Poseidon can’t take to the skies! I wonder if Luke’s awkwardness in wishing Percy good luck was bc he knew that he shouldn’t care, but did anyway. I’m not a Luke apologist in anyway, but he’s such a complicated character that he’s fascinating to analyze lol. And the way Percy admires him!! It’s so cute. Makes the betrayal so much more tragic ;A;

There’s lots of foreshadowing this chapter. Besides the shoes, Kronos is mentioned, Medusa is indirectly referenced, the hints with the Furies saying where is it, and Prometheus is also mentioned although he’s not officially introduced until book 5. I’ll even include the tourist that takes a picture of crazed Percy fleeing the bus in the list too lol. There might be others I missed.

Backtracking a little, I know Grover meant well when talking about Sally, but I wouldn’t tell someone that they should be grateful when a decision or action results in abuse in some way. Like yes, Sally having the foresight in keeping Percy around someone that could mask his demigod smell was a good thing in the long run, but they both suffered from it. I don’t blame Sally at all, because all she wanted was for her son to survive. And who knows what she herself had to deal with when Percy wasn’t around. Maybe he was around for the worse parts and it’s just not narrated. Maybe it wasn’t the best decision per se, but the other options were either Percy dying or Percy growing up without a father and a mother, so 🤷🏾‍♀️ Can you imagine how he would’ve felt if Sally just left him at camp as a small child. Like they still could’ve kept in contact but Percy probably wouldn’t feel good about it. We might’ve gotten a different story if that was the turn of events. There would be no blue in Percy’s life! Like.... what would Percy be without his obsession for the color blue??

Anywho, it’s late and I’m ranting 😂 I’ll end it with a pondering over what exactly Chiron heard in these prophecies he keeps mentioning 🤨

Small things:

I’ll never get over when we found out Riptide is a girl and the Sword of Summer proceeded to flirt with her lolol

I can’t tell whether Argus is winking at Percy for his pizza joke or charmed by the preteen flirting lol. The very first Percabeth shipper xD

Have I mentioned I love their banter lol

Once more, we get a glimpse into Percy’s extreme loyalty. He can never leave a friend behind 🥺

I had a realization that Hilary Duff’s “So Yesterday” only came out a few years before TLT did and I don’t think I fully comprehended how old this book is until now sjdfhskjdf
