Graham Hancock: How do you explain the presence of "visionary" brews all over the world if not by invoking a lost ancient civilization that spread its knowledge across the world?
Me: People like to get high? People use drinks and foods that intoxicate them for fun? Just like today?
Graham Hancock: Well, how can you explain the presence if geometric art all over the world?
Me: My dude, have you ever seen someone doodle? Have you ever tried to decorate something? I'm no artist and I have no sense for design whatsoever but I will inevitably end up making a geometric design. It's just neat.
Graham Hancock: But what about their obsessions with the sky and the milky way?!?
Me: My dude, seriously. Have you ever been in a place with low or no light pollution at night? Have you seen the milky way? Shit is fascinating. If I would see that every night, I would study the shit out of it.

Behind the Scenes of Smith And Jones (Part Nine)
Excerpts from DWM #381 - article by Jason Arnopp
We find a walking enigma among the supporting cast. His name is Gordon Styles and he is portraying Male Patient #4. A senior citizen, Gordon claims to have appeared in a Second Doctor serial, circa 1967 or 68. Gordon recalls, “running through corridors and being scared to death,” which sounds just about right, although his name doesn’t appear on existing records. How queer.
David’s fascinated by Gordon’s story. “I was debating with someone who had the longest gap between appearances,” he says, “and Pauline Collins just pips Margaret John. But Gordon seems to beat them all!”
Gordon is similarly fascinated by David. “He’s always on the move! He’s like a whippet. I’m not into science fiction, though. I like a good, real story with real people.”

Wildly, context doesn’t help.
John liked the double meaning of ‘please’… ‘So, please, pretty please, have intercourse with me, I beg you to have intercourse with me.’ He liked that and I liked that he liked that.
Paul McCartney, about Please Please Me.
Okay then. That does… actually really explain basically everything about them. Which Paul goes on to say himself

DPXDC Prompt #58 Part 1
His parents studied ghosts. Danny didn’t understand as a kid why everyone made fun of his parents. Now that he was 12, the thought was ludicrous and yet his parents continued their work on the portal. Danny had his sister Jazz though and the siblings were rather close.
Jazz had spent a lot of time studying lately stating that she wanted to get into a good college. Danny understood he did, but being alone sucked and he couldn’t help it as he sighed kicking a pebble down the sidewalk.
It was a nice hot summer day, the kind of day you’d want to spend at the beach or a pool. Danny however had other ideas. He was on the way to the local library. If Jazz was going to spend her summer studying for the ACTs then Danny was going to study what he wanted, Space. He quickly found a few books and got settled into a chair as he read. Space really was fascinating, he hoped one day his dream of becoming an astronaut would come true.
An hour or so passed before Danny was interrupted, “what are you reading?” The voice started Danny out of his trance as he looked up at his interrupter. A boy about the same age as Danny with the same black hair and blue eyes that Danny had. His skin was more tan than Danny’s own pale white.
Danny fidgeted in his seat for a moment before answering, “Astronomy: guide to the stars” Sure, Danny knew the text was college level but he already read all the ones for high and middle school.
Damian seemed to hum thoughtfully with a hand on his chin before speaking again, “the book you're reading seems advanced, you seem smarter than your age would dictate. Father has requested that I visit the library and try to ‘make a friend or two’ in his words. I don’t see the need for companionship but if I must I’d rather it be with someone intelligent. My name is Damian.” It was a bit much but Danny guessed from what Damian said that he was complementing Danny.
“Uh, Danny… I guess most of the people in my family are pretty smart.” He replied after a moment.
Danny thought it was odd that someone wanted to be friends with him. Everyone at the public elementary school he went to knew who his parents were so they wanted nothing to do with him. It was lonely but Danny didn’t mind it too much, but Damian didn’t act like he knew Danny’s Parents. The thought of having a friend that didn’t judge him for who his parents were made Danny a little excited.
“What occupation do your parents have?” It was a simple question with a not so simple answer.
Oh, Danny’s heart stuttered a little bit at the thought of Damian knowing anything about. He didn’t want to lie, especially to his new friend but he didn’t want to tell him the truth.
“Uh, they’re scientists but I don’t really know what they do…” Danny said carefully and slowly. He was sure Damian bought it.
The two spent the next couple hours just talking in the library. It had started to get late and Damian needed to head back home.
“Do you own your own phone?” Damian asked, it wasn’t uncommon, for most kids in his class had a cheap hand me down phone for emergencies. Danny unfortunately didn’t as his parents probably didn’t care where he was.
Danny shrugged, “not really, I could borrow my sisters but it really only gets used for emergencies.”
Damian seemed to frown at this thinking for a moment before nodding as if he came to a conclusion, “my brother Todd has mentioned that it’s hard for low income houses to afford something I’d consider a necessity in this city. You do know how high the crime rate is, yes?” Danny nodded but he didn’t know what that had to do with having a phone Damian cleared his throat before continuing, “as you are now my friend I’d like to offer to purchase one for you.”
Danny hadn’t owned anything like a phone before, “a-are you sure? I don’t really need one, my parents don’t really… care?” He felt uncomfortable with his new friend spending money on him, Damian seemed like an important person especially with the clothes he wore and how he carried himself. Danny felt like he’d be taking advantage of his new friend if he bought Danny a phone. Danny closed the book he was holding and took a breath before speaking again, “I appreciate the offer but I wouldn’t have anything to offer you in return.” He let his gaze fall to the cover of the book, a swirling galaxy on a black background and bold yellow text.
“I would not have offered it if I wasn’t sure.” Damian stated firmly causing Danny’s head to snap back up, “I do not need anything in return, however if you really intend to pay me back, Father has insisted that I bring a friend home sometime. Since we have established that we are friends I insist that you come visit every so often to, as Richard puts it ‘get him off my back’.” It sounded like a simple request but Danny was unsure. If Damian was someone important then his family was bound to be even more important.
He took a moment to think about it, but Jazz would be happy Danny finally made a friend…
“Alright, I accept,” Danny said as they shook hands. It might have been a little childish but he could tell he made some sort of bond with Damian.
After that they had quickly become friends. Once Danny had become accustomed to being in the Wayne house he basically became family, and was often visiting, especially to eat Mr. Pennyworths cooking. Mr. Wayne also seemed fond of Danny, he even offered to pay for Danny to go to Gotham Academy along with Damian. Danny had been hesitant at first but Damian quickly wore him down. Tim eventually wormed his way into the group as he and Danny bonded over the latest video game releases. Soon Jazz got roped into the group too as she started to visit the manor to get away from how noisy the lab got.
A couple years had passed since the day that started the road to their friendship and the four of them had really bonded since then. Unfortunately their parents had finished the portal and its here where things go downhill for Danny.
In the next one Danny dies and all 4 of them are deeply traumatized.
Damian saw his dad doing research on the Fenton family, Bruce is just looking out for potential rouges and Damian took the opportunity to become friends with Danny. He figured that he could just bribe Danny into being his friend like all the kids at his school try but Danny is a lil cinnamon roll. Taken aback from how sweet Danny is Damian decided that Danny really was smart and worth being a friend. Tim has the same thoughts especially as Danny starts visiting the mansion more. Jazz loved that Danny had a spot to go where people seemed to actually care about him and she eventually gets dragged into the group. You can only drop off your brother at the Wayne’s so often before you get dragged into the group as well and I thought Tim and Jazz can be the same age and can bond over being older siblings.

Help Empty Movement Help You
Hey! Vanna here. I'm going to get to the point. There have been a rash of sales of Utena production materials that have gone for ludicrous sums, and I have won none of them. This sucks, because at this point, this is stuff I'd be scanning for Something Eternal, sure, but also, for the fucking Internet Archive. When I ask for help, it's because I want to contribute to the Utena museum, which I try to share as freely as possible. Y'all know the drill.
....But I'm gonna be fucking selfish here. Help me. I fucking need these. You need to remember.....
Akio is my favorite character.
My personal g-mail STILL HAS HIS FULL NAME IN IT. Forgive me this sin, and for a moment, consider...
I have this one cel. I cherish it for many reasons. It's a calm before a storm. It's his last little pretense of being a gentleman. And then he gets shoved the fuck off, in the face, full offense, in one of the most satisfying moments in the show, and I mean this as an Akio fan.
I mean, I like the character, I'm fascinated with him, etc....but no one else in the world is going to appreciate ownership of the fucking production materials of him getting shoved in the face like I will I KNOW YOU KNOW THAT ;_;
Just fuckin' help me, idk, there's Patreon, there's PayPal (emptymovement), there's the drop ship merch (I make very little off these tho tbh they're just kinda neat things I've made), there's sending me cursed pirate gold literally whatever I fucking need these so much, and that's not even to speak of the literal fucking series icon moments in this lot that I do, seriously, believe belong in a museum and would at least digitize them that way and make considerations for where they'd be safest long term
I'm so serious this is fucking history and I trust myself to ensure its survival better than whoever else is gonna bid just hekofeygfwefgqlufgew kufgwed

I keep seeing posts about how Jason should have chara development that makes sense regarding his morals and stop killing because of that rather than because Bruce told him to stop and like - it's not like I disagree. Of course, that would be great. Of course I want him to be written his age by writers that like him and have development that makes sense and work with Bruce and Dick and evolve on his own as a person.
But the thing is.
A few weeks ago I saw a critique of His Dark Materials that was so absurdly daft it made me want to peel my skin off. For context, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman is a children/young adult book set in fantasy worlds that doubles as a retelling of Paradise Lost in which Lucifer wins, and criticism of christianism is preponderant in it. (This will spoil a good part of book 1 of HDM btw). I'm far from a HDM fan, I saw a few episodes of the adaptation and read it once when I was ten and thought the characters and world was fun but the rhythm in the 2nd and 3rd books was off and I didn't like the ending, so like it was fun but I definitely not a re-read for me. But the point is, this critique clearly had a degree in not getting the fucking point, because his arguments against the books clearly stemmed from an inability to shift his viewpoint out of the christian framework (I promise this is still a Jason post). One of his most ludicrous argument was the lack of character depth in HDM. This is particularly silly because one of the main characters, Mrs Coulters, is one of the most interesting complex characters I've ever seen in fiction. Now Mrs Coulters is interesting because she is a bad guy. Like, tortures and kills children level of bad guy. She doesn't magically grow to sacrifice herself in the name of martyrdom to repent for her sins or something silly like that; but still, she sometimes does very good, helpful things for the characters, because the tension between her character is between her ambition (and her faith though that's more questionable) and her motherhood, as she truly loves and cares for her daughter, one of the protagonists, and wants a better, safer world for her. Now the critique claimed that there was no character depth because there was no concept of sin and no redemption arcs in the books- but those are utterly Christian concepts, so of course they wouldn't be endorsed by a book that challenges their validity. Just because Mrs Coulters doesn't have a redemption arc doesn't mean she isn't deep; and the fact that she does good things not out of morality but out of love is what makes her a fascinating character.
So, thinking about that asinine critique, I was suddenly struck with the realization that Jason is somehow similar to Mrs Coulters in that he is a very loving person who tends to put his personal connexions above everything else (of course, he doesn't experiment on and torture children, that's not what I'm saying). My point is, I don't think why we shouldn't have a Jason who evolves not moved by his morals (though he has them and they matter) but by his love. The point of Death in the Family is Jason wanted to be loved and have a family and trying to shield Sheila's body with his and telling her he loved her. The point of UTRH is Jason doing horrible things in the most theatrical, strategically planned mental breakdown as begging for proof of love because he can't reconcile being loved in a different way that he loves and because he can't understand someone putting their moral code over love. And as much as RHATO #25 fills me up with dread, I have to say I love Jason's behaviour in that final stint. "I am my father's son" holy shit what a line. Jason is Willis' son and because of his filial love, his loyalty demands he avenges him. Jason is Bruce's son and because of his filial love, his loyalty demands that he does not kill. Jason almost murders Willis' murderer with a blank bullet and then when Bruce beats hims halfway to death he doesn't defend himself, doesn't fight back (like, one punch but come on, we've seen him fight, he just gives up). That right there? Hate to say it with how questionable RHATO's Jason is in general, but that's peak characterization. The conflict is entirely about Jason's conception of love, family and worldview, and it's deep and interesting and has nothing to do with morality. I want Jason storylines that explore that. I want Jason to work with the batfam in stories that make sense, I want the writers to acknowledge him as a victim and trauma survivor and allow him to grow from there instead of demonizing his mental illness, I want him to stop killing out of love and I want him to allow himself to love in healthier ways and for the width of his love to spread exponentially and for that to affect his behaviour and worldview.
And that's not just because I like Mrs Coulters and dislike the idea of holier than though moral characters! The christic symbolism Jason is crystal clear (especially in Lost Days), but it's not just about Jason: Talia is associated with Mary (which makes sleeping with him that much more obviously incestuous and horrible and ooc), Joker is the Devil and Bruce, of course, is God (which begs such interesting questions about the Holy Spirit - Robin maybe? To explore at a later date). Now, everybody's experience with Christianity differs wildly, but the way I learnt it growing up in catholic culture was basically God being an Authority of Judgement and Law, strict and all about morality; while Jesus is about love, unconditional love, even and especially the sinners and the damned (and as for the devil Lucifer is a fallen angel who fell after losing to God, and Satan is the demonic incarnation of temptation ain't that interesting). So I would argue that by having Jason kill or not kill out of love for his family, Jason is already his own character with autonomous thought process, independent morals and original interesting values that are a breath of fresh air in the world of superhero which is all about moral codes. Additionally, I think it's interesting and full of potential (and hope) that that very thing is why Jason and Bruce are held in opposition so often when in christianism they are two sides of the same coin.
TLDR: Jason going through character development that doesn't involve an evolution of his moral code is a great idea and if executed properly should give us fascinating stories with one of the most interesting characters in the DC universe, I used to think he should get a sort of "redemption arc" after UTRH where he questions his moral code but now I feel like I'm stuck in the same Christian/superhero framework as the pedantic guy who didn't understand His Dark Materials and I refuse to agree with them about anything so now I'm a hardcore "love over morals" Jason girlie. Obviously I still think moral code development would be a good and interesting storyline and better than anything DC is giving us rn, but I think we could do even better without it.
(also Star Sapphire Jason ftw)

My Top 12 Favorite Anime of 2023 (and more)!
This was a great year for anime, so here's a long list of my top 12 (including some bonus great anime). If you get tired of clicking the review links, check out my anime overview collection for all of them here. You can also check out my list of favorite manga here!
Some of these are ongoing, so consider those only a review of the first cour-- no official endorsement on the rest because it hasn't aired yet!
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Season 2)
When I listed G-Witch in last year's top anime list, I prayed the show wouldn't betray me. Fortunately, it didn't! Though the final half of the show was a bit rushed, it remained must-see, compelling sci-fi full of exciting twists and turns. And I adore the well developed romance between the robot-piloting protagonist and precious girl, Suletta, and her fierce fiancé, Miorine. Whether you’re here for starcrossed queer lovers, robots wrecking each other, tense battles between opposing political factions, or morally-horrifying moms on a revenge spree, you’re in for a treat.
See my full review here.
Yuri is my Job!
Hime is roped into working at a cafe where the waitresses playact as students of the fictional all girl’s school from a beloved novel series. However, Hime finds her co-worker, Mitsuki, has an inexplicable grudge against her. Thus begins a tangled web of romance and wounded feelings among the girls in the cafe! Yuri is My Job seems like a fun comedy boasting a cast full of quirky lesbians, but then reveals itself to be a complicated and fascinating examination of performance- as it intersects with queerness, girlhood, and the desire to be “likeable” and “cute". It's top-tier lesbian drama full of fraught relationships and it's absolutely worth a watch.
See my full review here.
The Apothecary Diaries (still ongoing, review is for the first cour)
Though it's still going, I have to sing the praises of this dazzling anime about a saavy apothecary who uses her medical expertise to solve the many murders and betrayals in the Emperor's palace. MaoMao is a fantastic lead, a poison-obsessed gremlin who's whip-smart, deadpan, and fun to follow. The Apothecary Diaries has intrigue, well-developed characters, and an impeccable atmosphere. It tells a great range of stories, from romantic triumph, to bittersweet tales of recovering from grief, to pure tragedies. I'm totally hooked.
See my full review here.
The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
When Euphie is dumped by her fiance at a ball, the oddball princess Anis rescues her. Euphie becomes Anis' assistant in her quest to develop magical tools. The girls also start to develop feelings for each other, while discovering a conspiracy among the nobility. I'm always desperately in need of cool lesbians having action-packed fantasy adventures, and Magirevo delivers. The characters grow in entertaining ways, we get to see them fight dragons in killer action scenes, and the romantic development is completely satisfying. It's a simple story at its core, but the lovable characters, joyous queerness and jubilant execution make it a great watch.
See my full review here.
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story (Season 2)
In the second season of the anime about girls homoerotically golfing while dealing with the mafia and ludicrous family drama, Birdie Wing remains a bombastically absurd sports anime that is fun all the way through. Please come watch these girls get ridiculous sports injuries, scream their super golf attacks, experience extremely extra plot twists--and be super gay with each other, of course. The finale didn't go quite as hard as I wanted (and the romance is more subtexual than I wanted), but you need to allow yourself to experience the madness of Birdie Wing.
See full review here.
Skip and Loafer
An endearingly dorky, earnest, and driven girl moves from her small town to Tokyo. While she struggles to adjust, she befriends a nice popular boy who's got some baggage. Skip and Loafer is a show that’s like a warm hug. It's sweet, entertaining and funny. It handles adolescent struggles with tender nuance. There's a emphasis on kindness, connection, and looking past stereotypes and misconceptions. It also includes a trans character who's treated with respect (and is a great character in general!) Let this show touch your heart.
See my full review here.
Undead Murder Farce
An immortal woman has had most of her body stolen by a mysterious man. Reduced to a head carried around by her maid, she teams up with a half-demon man to track the thief down while solving supernatural mysteries all across Victorian England.
This a fun, campy mystery series starring three asshole weirdo protagonists, it’s bursting with supernatural creatures and literary references. We've got Sherlock Holmes, The Phantom of the Opera, Carmilla and more...along with a vampire murders and werewolf drama galore. UDM is a wonderful romp with stylish, slick direction... and it’s unexpectedly really gay. I’m aching to see more of these scrappy misfits and their adventures.
See my full review here.
Migi & Dali
A story of twins who are pretending to be one kid in order to fool their foster parents and find out who killed their mother. It starts out as an utterly absurd comedy becomes a impressive and genuinely tense murder mystery that is incredibly moving at times, all while keeping up it’s signature brand of goofiness. There’s genuine commentary on abuse, the damage you can do to children by forcing perfection on them, the struggle of being a foster kid, grief and recovery and more. There's also some great character development. It's a weird one, but it's absolutely worth sticking with.
See full review here.
Pluto
Somebody is killing the most advanced robots in the world and murdering humans alongside them. A robot detective is trying to track this killer down, but he might be compromised as well. Pluto is a tense, tense, tightly plotted robot murder mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Through robots, it explores the idea of being a tool in a corrupt system, and tackles subjects like war, imperialism, and the nature of hatred. It's a masterful psychological thriller with stunning animation and a rich story.
See my full review here.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
This anime approaches the story of Scott Pilgrim and Ramona's seven evil exes from a brands new angle, and the results are great. We get a exploration of relationships and regrets, the messiness of communication and connection, the trials of becoming an adult, all with the signature goofy video game antics. Characters neglected in previous iterations finally get their due, new facets of the story are explored, queer relationships are delved into more, girls kiss...and it's all accompanied by phenomenal animation and a killer soundtrack.
See my full review here
Soaring Sky! Precure
Sora lives in a world called Skyland and wants to be a great hero. When rescuing the kidnapped baby princess, she falls through a portal to earth. There she meets her fellow magical warriors, and as Precure they protect the princess from the villains!
This vibrant, warm-hearted adventure got me back on the Precure train! This series boasts a lot exciting firsts for the franchise--the first official male cure, the first main cure that's eighteen years old- but above all, it has a lively team of characters with who have an entertaining dynamic and enjoyable individual journeys. It's often very funny, the baby has a surprisingly good character arc, and it's bursting with magical girl (and boy) goodness! It's also not afraid to give you an emotional gutpunch when you've been lured into a false sense of security by all the fun times. If you're new to Precure, this is a great jumping on point, and if you've watched it before, this is a series you won't want to miss.
I'm in Love with the Villainess
Rae is reincarnated as the heroine of her favorite dating sim. But she has no interest in romancing any of the boys- she’s head over heels for Claire Francois, the snooty villainess.
Villainess may not be as polished--storywise or animation-wise-- as these other entries. It's a messy series, it has plenty of problems...but it's also very fun, and it touched my queer little heart like no other. Queer people get to indulge in our imperfect faves too, and the silly shenanigans, blatant lesbian wish fulfillment, honest advocacy for queer people, and the joy and earnestness of the series works for me!
See my full review here.
Some Other Great Anime:
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (still ongoing, review is for the first cour)
Frieren is a long-lived elf who was once part of an adventuring party that saved the world from the Demon Lord. But now her friends are passing away and the world is moving on. She decides to retrace her old party's journey so she can understand what she's feeling.
Frieren is both an interesting examination of what happens after the hero saves the world, as well as a meditation on mortality, grief, and the endless march of time. It takes you on a quiet, beautiful and sometimes touching journey though a pastoral fantasy world. There's some breath-taking animation and excellent atmosphere to enjoy.
See my review here.
Spy x Family (Season 3)
Spy x Family is pretty much staying the course from when we last checked in, though this season gives a lot more attention to Yor, and I love the cruise ship arc and all the ridiculous fights she gets into a lot! That arc contains some of my favorite gags of the series too (like Loid’s attempts to be a cool dad). Otherwise, Spyfam has settled into a series that intends to be around for the long haul, so don’t expect too much forward plot momentum. And Yuri (the man, not the genre) unfortunately still exists. Overall it was good season and remains a fun adaptation. Yor, please step on me.

Dee, I have Thoughts and no one irl to brainrot @ so pls excuse the umpteenth time I am in your notifications this weekend.
Last week I word vomited in your spicy requests about how much TraditionalGarb!Hoshina plagues my thoughts. Well, I went out for dinner and had a few cocktails, and my slightly drunk, pliant mind was churning the entire ride home. [Sober Note: I started this ask right when I got home, and now, having sobered up a bit, holy hell I am sorry for getting lost in the sauce and turning what was supposed to be drunk imagines into something ludicrous. I can't quite bring myself to delete it bc I was clearly so into it, but seriously if this is too long/annoying please just ignore me!]
I'm thinking of a historical period-era AU Hoshina clan. Not too familiar with Japanese history but maybe Edo period, idk about historical accuracy. In my imagines, reader is from a less influential, albeit wealthier clan, has 2 older brothers, and grew up around the Hoshina family from birth. Both their families are preoccupied with the eldest children and their role in continuing the family legacy/business, so their families don't hound them too closely in their childhoods. They're in a rural, countryside part of Japan with plenty of wild grass and flower fields. Soichiro holds all the weight of family expectation so he is more aloof. But Soshiro is allowed more freedom, so when he isn't obsessively training, he is spending time with reader as her closest childhood friend. Meanwhile, reader is trained in all the traditional arts and duties expected of her, but she also has a love for calligraphy (or painting but idk how accurate that is) that she is allowed to cultivate because, again, her parents aren't hounding her too closely. She's fascinated by Soshiro's swordsmanship and makes him show her all the moves he is learning, and in turn, he is enthralled by her knowledge and love of calligraphy and likes to hear her talk about it for hours even if he doesn't quite get it. Because they're in a rural area, they also play outdoors together whenever they can, climbing trees and splashing in the streams, and Soshiro is rough-and-tumble and free around her in ways he can't be at home when he's ceaselessly trying to measure up to and surpass his brother. As they grow older they are naturally forced apart due to expectations of their genders and stations. They still hold onto what they believe is a fondness for their childhood friend, until one day, as the wild wisteria blooms and they see a glimpse of each other after an absence of several months, they both realize that the innocent fondness held in their hearts had taken root long ago and finally bloomed into love.
Unfortunately, in the Edo period, warrior families started to lose their place in this era of newfound peace, and the Hoshinas are forced to worry about their place in this world for the first time. At the same time, reader's clan is struck by tragedy and her 2 older brothers are killed in an accident, leaving a vacuum for the future of the clan. The Hoshina and Reader patriarchs decide on what they believe is a mutually beneficial arrangement: Soichiro and Reader shall join their clans in marriage. Reader's clan benefits from the prestige of the Hoshina name, and the Hoshina clan benefits from the prosperous wealth of her family. As the sole remaining offspring of her clan, she should be honored to be chosen to helm the Hoshina household and bear its heirs.
Ofc Reader is devastated, but she knows that her voice is unimportant and she will forever be doomed to suffer in a life so close to her dreams, but with a cruel twist. She sees Soshiro just once after the engagement announcement, and it is with a too-cheerful mask that he congratulates her on her match, and, in a moment when no one is looking, he slips into her hands a small gift that he had picked up in the capitol on his last trip and had been meaning to give to her: some fine new ink he thought she would love for her calligraphy. He supposes it is an engagement gift now, even if the gift is only really for her.
On the eve of her wedding, she manages to sneak out and find Soshiro. Together, they go to the grassy field of wildflowers by the creek they played in as children. Even though fate is not on their side, it seems the moon has sympathy for them, because it hides behind clouds and conceals their illicit meeting. They're finally able to declare their love for one another in the place where it all began. She tells Soshiro that even though destiny was determined to keep them apart, she wants to know what it is to wholly love and be loved, just once in her life. So under the glow of a thousand fireflies, she undresses Hoshina, gently pulling his kosode apart to reveal his chest. She laughs lightly as she traces his scars-the old and familiar ones from childhood, and the newer ones he has acquired in manhood. She traces the marks she remembers: the dented scar on his shoulder from when he fell out of the cypress tree trying to grab a beetle to impress her when they were five. The patch of slightly uneven skin along his arm from three years later, when he had run after his father's horse in the road and tripped down the hill. The thin, raised slash from when Soichiro had cut him in training at age 11, to teach him a lesson on inferiority. From there, she draws lines to the unfamiliar marks: a puffy patch of new skin from a recent battle wound that has only started to heal, two pigmented gashes where he was gouged in battle last year, a mottled expanse of bruises on his ribs from where he had challenged Soichiro last month, just after the engagement announcement, and had finally shown his brother that his attempted lesson in inferiority had never sunk in.
She says that all these marks tell her a story in the same way a calligrapher's soul is left indelibly in their brushstrokes. She sees a world in his body, and it tells her favorite story. Overwhelmed, Soshiro finally crashes into her and through the flurry of kissing he has her on her back in the grass, slipping her out of her garments. He's mapping his way across her significantly less blemished skin with his lips and tongue, and laments between pants that he will never be able to partake in the story of her body, because she belongs to his brother and he cannot leave his own brushstrokes on the expanse of her skin. Breathless, reader pulls a bottle tucked into her undergarment next to her heart-a vial of the precious ink Soshiro had gifted her. Her wedding is tomorrow-she knows there is no way he can leave any lasting marks on her. But for tonight, she is his and she wants some proof of that, however temporary. So Soshiro dips his finger in the ink and swirls and dips it all over the memories he has buried in his mind: a spot on her neck where a particularly vicious bee had stung her as they chased tadpoles as six-year-olds, a whorl on her shoulder where his ten-year-old head rested as she unrolled endless scrolls to extol the virtues of some long-dead calligrapher, an almost-violent slash just under the swell of her bosom where he had caught her when she had fallen in her attempt to swing his katana at 13.
And as he finally lines up his achingly hard cock and breaches her cunt, as he makes love to her for the first and last time, he grieves for the death of the two stories written here-hers, which will be washed off her body as soon as she returns to her home, and his, which will wither and end without her to trace the patterns and give them the meaning he can never find by himself. [sober note/holy run on sentence batman]
you better believe i'm posting this ask because IT NEEDS TO BE SEEN!!!
MY FRIEND!!!!! i'm on my knees. i'm begging. i'm clawing at the air. i'm frantically waving anything of value that i have in your direction. i implore you to write this because i'm wholly obsessed. a period piece, childhood friends, the arranged marriage, THE YEARNING, THE LOVELY POETRY OF IT ALL EVEN JUST AS A SUMMARIZED VERSION!?!?!?
She says that all these marks tell her a story in the same way a calligrapher's soul is left indelibly in their brushstrokes. She sees a world in his body, and it tells her favorite story.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(don't even get me started on him painting on her????? oh my god i'm so unwell. i need one of those fainting couches. i want to CONSUME THISSSSS)

thinking about androids again, but rather than the plot seen in android jade,,,, consider android floyd who is being developed by tech genius idia shroud with input and funding from business magnate azul ashengrotto.
(cw: yandere, unhealthy behaviors/relationship, obsession, vaguely implied non-con/dub-con, android floyd)
He's designed to be a companion for those who are lonely and in need of the company (whether physically or socially). You're just a tired, overworked university student, so it's mind-boggling to you when there's a sleek limousine parked just beyond campus property. Security guards are insisting you come with them because there's someone who'd like to meet you.
In the limo, you find yourself sitting across from Azul Ashengrotto himself. He doesn't bother with flowery introductions, instead cutting to the heart of the matter. You've been randomly selected to help with a very important phase of his and Idia's project. The general idea is to test how well the android interacts with a normal, ordinary person in a monitored setting.
You're very confused. You never signed up for any lottery, and you certainly aren't affiliated with anything of that sort. You're just trying to get through your degree, survive two part-times, and hopefully make enough to keep afloat for another month. Azul tells you this isn't an issue; you'll be generously compensated for your time and efforts. It's only three months; you'll be permitted to live your life as you normally would, only now you'll be accompanied by a highly intelligent android.
Despite hearing all of this, you hesitate when he reveals the lengthy contract. As you flip through it, analyzing each clause and category, Azul says something that piques your interest. "We don't expect you to house an android in your little apartment. Goodness, that's simply ludicrous. We'll provide your housing for these next three months. After all, we must be able to monitor your progress."
"Housing? What do you mean?"
He smiles at you. Backdropped by leather interior, the lights casting odd shadows on his face, he looks near-sinister. But he leans forward to press a ballpoint pen into your hands and the illusion vanishes. "I think you'll find it quite to your liking. If you've finished your classes for the day, why not visit the property with me? Then you may decide whether you wish to participate."
You're not worried about that part. What worries you the most, however, is the fact that he's right. You are finished with classes for the day and you have nothing planned. You took today off from work. Your schedule is perfectly free.
But of course the Azul Ashengrotto wouldn't know that, would he?
The house is a smart home, equipped with every necessity and appliance. Everything's controlled by a remote here. It's not very far from your university either, built on a hill that overlooks houses below. It feels a little isolating and smells very new and clean. Like that fabled new car smell, only it's a house. But everything is so unique to you. Its minimalistic design is oddly cozy, and you can't help but feel enchanted the deeper you venture through the two-story home. It's all so unreal!
Azul gives you the rundown, explains how the remote and each button works. You can lock doors, open and close windows, mess with the thermostat, turn the home security on and off, and even start the oven. You hold the power to this home in the palm of your hands. It's immensely fascinating.
By the end of the tour, you're shaking his hand and signing his contract, agreeing to three months of study. Not only are you provided this nice home, you'll also be paid per week. And the pay is far more than you were making with your two jobs.
The android has a long, tongue-tying serial number, so to make things easier he's named Floyd. They even gave him a surname in preparation for the twin android who is being designed to complement and mirror him. He certainly looks human when you meet him, but there's this uncanny nature to his presence that slightly unnerves you. He's too perfect. Skin too smooth. Eyes too bright. Hair too soft. He towers over you, having to bend down to walk through the doorframe, and every movement he makes is very mechanical and stiff.
Still, you smile at him and offer your hand. "Hi there. I'm (Name). Your...housemate, I guess."
He nods, peering down at your hand before lifting his own. "Floyd Leech. At your service."
You were expecting to feel coldness, so you startle when his hand fits into yours and it's warm. It feels so very real. So deceptively lifelike. You wonder if he can regulate his own internal temperatures. Just how advanced is he?
"Right... Um, I look forward to getting to know you!"
He nods again, releasing your hand after a perfectly timed handshake.
Azul had given you a special number should you need to reach him or Idia. All you needed to do was phone it if at any point you were to feel confused or unsafe. "But I don't think you'll utilize it," he told you when you stood in the lab, watching Idia Shroud flit around to do final maintenance checks to ensure Floyd was ready for his first trial run. His eyes were open the entire time, two mismatched lights centered on you. His stare was listless, but somehow you felt as if he was looking through to your very soul. "He's very safe. In fact, he's programmed to assess and react appropriately to dangers of all kinds. You'll be safe with him around."
And safe you are.
You've always been alone, so it's nice to have a roommate, even if he only speaks when spoken to. It's awkward for all of one week until you ease into his pattern. From various vantage points throughout the house, Idia and Azul watch through hidden cameras. You cook your meals for yourself and Floyd watches, assisting when you order him to. You leave for class and Floyd waits by the door for you to return, standing stock-still for hours.
You lounge in the sitting room and put on all kinds of films. Action. Comedy. Horror. Floyd's eyes never leave the screen. But sometimes he watches you more than he watches the movie, noting all of your reactions. He doesn't understand why you get so emotional over sappy romances. So you explain it simply: "It evokes emotions. We all have emotions, and these movies make us feel them. Happy. Sad. Angry. Upset. Things like that."
But Floyd doesn't feel. Even so, he listens and he nods along, filing your answers away for later dissection. It's interesting.
By the end of the first month, Floyd's adopted new habits. Ever since you told him he's free to do as he pleases, he's taken to cooking your meals for you, doing your laundry, preparing your bag for the day. He's surprisingly good at it. He does chores when you leave for classes or work. And for the first time in a while you're excited to return home, knowing he's there waiting.
Floyd adds new words and phrases to his ever-expanding vocabulary. You watch a lot of TV together and he starts to use some of what he hears in his own speech. He picks up informal language quickly, and it isn't long until he's using words like sup or dunno instead of the rigid how are you? and I am unsure he was previously programmed with.
The first sign of unrest comes when you realize Floyd's also connected to the smart home. At first you didn't think it was a bad thing. After all, with him controlling it you won't have to worry about getting up to grab the remote if you've already sat down. Floyd can do that for you. But then the remote goes missing, later turning up shattered. You ask Floyd what happened and he looks at you and says, "Why use this piece of junk when you've got me?"
"Still... What if you're not able to help? What if you're in sleep mode and I need to open a window or something?" you argue, cradling the splinters of remote like they're an injured baby bird.
"That won't happen," he replies smoothly, issuing you a soothing smile. "I'm always gonna be here for ya. Count on it."
And you do because, by the time the three months are nearing their end and Floyd's developed into quite the companion, more and more human than he's ever seemed, you find yourself stuck.
No, not stuck. That's not quite right. You're more so trapped.
Floyd locks the doors, shutters the windows, turns off the lights. You're cowering in the closet, the only place that feels just a little safe in this moment. You can't reach Azul or Idia either. He's shut the power off, the internet connection, everything. The smart home on the hilltop feels like a tiny island now, and Floyd's the shark always circling it, waiting for you to dip your feet into the depths.
"C'mon, Shrimpy," he calls out, and it's a nickname you were once so fond of because he thought of it himself. "I already told ya I ain't gonna hurt ya. So just come out and talk to me."
You have no idea where you went wrong. Was it too many horror films? Was it the fact that you started to rely so heavily on him for companionship, ignoring your human friends in favor of staying in with Floyd? Or was it because he was blocking their numbers that you never received any messages and automatically assumed they were cutting contact? He said he'd always be here for you, so why to this degree?
The closet doors are thrown open. Floyd drags you, kicking and screaming, out by the ankles. Every camera has gone dark on Azul and Idia's end. All but one. The one in the bedroom. Floyd stares directly at it when he lifts you up and lays you on the bed, gentle and sugary-sweet.
He smiles and waves before that screen blanks out, leaving you truly trapped with him.
And because it's all experimental, morbid curiosity trumping ethical morals, no one comes to rescue you.
Three months is more of an indefinite forever in this lonesome smart home.

Thinking about Alastor helping Vox shoot one of his "commercials"
Though it wasn't actually anything serious as much as it was something silly they wanted to try out.
It fascinated him how quickly Vox can slip into his television persona, spouting out the ludicrous script they wrote out to a T without forgetting a word despite having wrote some of it when they were both drunk.
After delivering a rather ridiculous line with a serious tone and expression, Alastor couldn't help but burst out laughing as the camera swevered to the side.
Noticing Alastor's laughing fit, Vox smiled. Chuckling a little as he slipped out of his persona to help Alastor calm down.
Ever so slowly, Alastor stopped laughing so hard as he smiled at Vox. Before meeting his gaze and they both end up laughing yet again.
Thankfully, the take didn't need to be retaken as Vox easily used the movement of the camera when Alastor started to laugh as a cut and transition to the next scene.
The commercial ended up being quite entertaining, perfect even.
Though it was never broadcasted.
Alastor could hum thoughtfully as he rewinded the footage back to the start. Seeing the way Vox brightened up in unadulterated passion for entertainment and the arts as he acted like a star.
Carefully cradling the old battered video camera in his hands as he listened to his voice, unfiltered of the natural radiowaves as he spoke.
Smiling brightly without any tightness as his eyes were large and clear without any baggage.
Before the video camera lost battery, screen going dark as it was swept away into the darkness yet again.

Wenclair x Reader - What Are You? -Part 1
Wenclair x Reader- New at NeverMore and unsettled by your new stalkers? ... Or more excited. Why do these girls interest you so much? Or why are they so interested in you?
This is my first attempt at Wenclair X reader fic but I'm really excited to write it. I have so many ideas and different directions this story can take so hope y'all enjoy reading 😋
You walked the halls of Nevermore, anxiety filling your body, your mind filled with endless extremities of how badly this transfer could go and your heart beating so loudly you were sure everyone around you could hear it. You scanned the array of Fangs, Furs , Scales and Stoners that covered the Quad as you made your way to the principal's office to be welcomed as an outcast. Although you weren't sure that was the correct term for what you were.
Your eyes darted across the courtyard and you halted your steps when you heard a loud scream pierce your ears. You immediately went into defense mode only to focus your vision on a cute curly haired blonde whose scream turned into a giggle as a Gorgon boy threw her over his shoulder.
'Huh cute couple' you thought watching most of the group around them smile and laugh at the scene in front of them.
Being the huge snoop that you are, you focus your hearing on her laugh which was weirdly melodious to your ears. Only to hear...
"I suggest you remove my beloved from your clammy hands before I make certain you no longer have hands to perform such actions" the voice was harsh, very monotone yet incredibly alluring... Who is she?
"Wednesday, relax babe Ajax was just messing around" you watched as the blonde hopped down from the boys shoulder who seemed genuinely terrified by the 5ft nothing girl in front of him and held his hands up in surrender. She glided up to the girl and intertwined their hands together...
'Oh' you think to yourself "Now that's a cute couple" changing your tune. You hadn't realised how long you'd been staring, watching the group interact was fascinating but it wasn't long before you watched the beautiful blonde's nose twitch as she jerked her head in your direction and tilted her head quizzically at you.
The girl you now knew as Wednesday followed her girlfriend's eyeline stepping closer to her and turning her head to also make direct eye contact with you.
Your breath caught in your throat momentarily and you watch as the blonde flashes her fangs, presumably opening her mouth to speak but you don't wait up to hear what she has to say. Instead you whip your head towards the ground and scurry away not in the mood for confrontation on your first day
"Who was that?" Enid scrunched her brow in confusion, watching the back of you as you disappeared into the distance.
"I don't know but she seemed rather intrigued by us" Wednesday observed, also not taking her eyes off the girl who had scurried away.
"I know everyone at Nevermore why don't I know who that is?" Enid suddenly seemed a little panicked at her own uninformed self. Her eyes starring towards Wednesday who let a small, almost invisible to the naked eye, smile cross her lips. She couldn't believe she had fallen for a werewolf whose biggest issue was whether or not she kept up to date with all Nevermore gossip for her extremely girly blog.
"Highly suspicious." She recognised "Shall I get my investigation board out?" Wednesday suggested in an attempt to calm her hyperactive Lover down.
"Not yet" the werewolf smiled, pecking Wednesdays cheek and smiling. She did enjoy watching her girlfriend turn into Sherlock Holmes but she didn't seem it necessary just yet.
"Mon Chiot you must refrain from such ludicrous displays of public affection" she scolded Enid weakly, unable to admit the affect the wolf had on her.
"Chill out Wens noone is watching and besides I like that I'm the only one that can turn those beautifully pale cheeks even the slightest bit pink" she bragged playfully, knowing full well she could irritate the Seer without consequence.
Wednesday sighed "You're impossible" she threw her head to the sky and feined annoyance.
"And you're beautiful" she grabbed Wensdays hand to lead her back to the dynamic pack of friends but they were abruptly stopped by the assistant principal who stood in front of them.
"Miss Sinclair a word?" but as Enid moved to follow their teacher she felt a light tug from the hand that was grasping hers.
"What do you require of her?" Wednesday asked in a not so polite tone and the teacher just rolled her eyes very used to the Wednesday Addams and her protective nature. You couldn't blame her. The amount of times Enid had been in trouble and Wednesday knew for a fact she was responsible, was too many to count. It was alarming. So if she had to take the fall for something... she was ready to dive into the waiting arms of detention to protect her girlfriend's spotless record. At least it was spotless before Wednesday decided to hypothetically drag mud across the clean sheet.
"We have a new student at Nevermore" she rolls her eyes "It is a very abrupt transfer so the welcoming committee... i.e you...have not been informed" she explained and watched as the 2 girls gave each other a knowing look. The eavesdropper. "You're wanted in the principal's office to meet her" she smiled.
"Cool!" Enid beamed widely. She loved new students. New students meant more gossip and more gossip meant more things happening! Enid loved things happening!
"What is she?" Wednesday interjected concerned for her girlfriend's welfare around a new and undetermined creature.
"I am not at liberty to divulge that information Miss Addams" she spoke cryptically "Now chop chop she'll be waiting for you" she turned to Enid then flicked her eyes towards Wednesday "Bring Wednesday if you must but please refrain from terrifying her on her first day" the teacher directed her last sentence at the more sinister of the two then left without another word.
"Well this is gonna be so much fun!" Enid practically yelled before waving to her friends and leaving, Wednesday following close behind like a magnet being drawn to metal.
"Or harrowing" she mumbled as she caught up to Enid.
...
When you reach the two very large and intimidating doors, you knock with confidence and are greeted a few seconds later by a tall, tantalising women.
"Ahh you must me Y/N welcome to Nevermore" she declared before ushering you inside.
"I trust you found your way around ok I apologise for not greeting you at the gates I have only just been informed of your arrival a few minutes ago" she explained but it wasn't necessary. You knew why you were here and you didn't expect much of a welcome anyway.
"Yeah it's cool" you spoke rather casually and unbothered taking a seat as the other women did. She blinked at your casual tone but disregarded it to get down to business.
10 minutes went by which consisted of the Rules of Nevermore, the appearance of your schedule which you didn't expect to have so soon and an explanation of the requirements to attend the school. You listened as well as you could but eventually your thoughts drifted to two girls you had "Met" earlier and your mind swirled with images of them.
As if you had conjured it yourself a knock was heard and when you craned your neck to see who it was ... There they stood.
"Enid" the principal smiled warmly " and ... Wednesday" you watched as she forced a smile but seemed utterly dismayed by the other girl. So that's her name ... Enid your mind whispered to you.
You weren't at all surprised. The blonde whose smile was infectious was dressed in her uniform but it was bedazzled with countless accessories of blinding colour, her bubbly personality practically spilling out into the room. Whereas the darker haired girl looked far more distraught and tortured sporting an all black uniform and a deadpan expression.
"Howdy Newbie!" Enid skipped towards you a wide smile as you stumbled off your seat turning around to reciprocate her greeting.
"Umm Hey" you say quietly and immediately stepped back slightly as the girl threw her arms up to attack you, you presume with a hug. You were never one for physical contact around strangers especially with the "gift" you have being unpredictable so although you rejected her hug you hoped you hadn't offended her.
Enid tilted her head to the side with a slight frown. Which of course made you feel bad but it was safer this way. You let out a sigh of relief when she looked back at Wednesday who smirked at her then back at you while letting out a light chuckle.
"Not a hugger?" She questioned lowering her hands, but she seemed oddly happy about this rather than dismayed.
"Haha not really" you shrugged, with one hand grasping at your forearm for comfort.
"Got it!" Enid spoke, respecting your boundaries which you were incredibly grateful for. "You and Wednesday will get along great" she laughed a little again and winked, causing you to blink at how affected you were by this. She then reached her hand out to Wednesday who hadn't stopped examining you with her piercing stare since the moment you began speaking to Enid. You felt you should be more unsettled by her eyes on you but you can understand her curiosity as you yourself were very interested in knowing more about the two girls.
Wednesday took Enid's hand easily and stepped in to join the conversation
"Hello" she said rather formally and you couldn't help the smile that pulled at your lips. These two were literally polar opposites. One sunshine, one Raincloud. One dark, one light. One a happy social hugger, one a dreary unsociable avoider. How in heaven's name are they a couple? Opposites really do attract it seems and it's proven very true in this case, as you can see.
"Hi" you nod at her and she matches the action with a slight tilt of her head towards you. You then watch as she looks at Enid who does the same. It's as if they are communicating through telepathy and all you can see is the slight change in facial expressions at whatever they were both thinking. Not a lot to go on but you choose not to pry, it didn't seem to be malicious or anything so you could let it go.
Thankfully the principal interrupted "Right well I think I've covered most of what Y/N needs to know so Miss Sinclair if you could just show her around and give her the ol' Nevermore welcome that would be much appreciated." She spoke looking up from her notes and back down to make sure she had covered everything.
"Roger that!" Enid saluted the teacher dramatically before skipping away and opening the large doors to the office.
You on the other hand watched as Wednesday examined you further, her eyes trailing up and down your body while you were standing only a meter apart. You felt rather trapped between her and the chair you were once sat on, unable to follow the bubbly blonde who had left the 2 of you.
You again we're thankful when Enid interjected "Wens stop it!" She looked back scolding her girlfriend "You'll make her feel uncomfortable" she trudged back to the both of you shaking her head.
"Sorry about Wednesday she's just ..." Enid struggled to find the right word "Curious about new unidentified people" she explained.
"Cucciola, What have I told you about apologising for me? It's not necessary" Wednesday speaks bluntly but with a hint of affection towards the werewolf girl. You notice the pet name and smile 'Shes Italian... or at least she speaks it' you find this incredibly attractive and nervously look away.
"Well someone has to" she rolled her eyes and you admire her features as she does this. Unfortunately for you Wednesday notices.
"Va bene capisco" you raise your hand hoping that you can distract the sinister looking girl from the fact that you just checked out her girlfriend.
You watch as Enid's eyes light up at your voice. And Wednesday narrows her eyes at you. "You speak Italian?" She questions and you're not sure whether she's impressed or annoyed at this point, Wednesday is very difficult to read.
"Sì mia madre mi ha insegnato quando ero bambino" you say proudly, always being extremely pleased with your learned skills.
"degno di nota" you hear Wednesday mutter as she looks away from you which for some reason causes you to feel all giddy at the sly compliment.
"Come New Outcast" Wednesday flicks her head towards the door and grabs Enid's hand before walking out of the room "I apologise for staring" she says while still facing away from you.
Enid smiles proudly at Wednesday and then gives you a reassuring look as you hastily follow behind the two.
This is gonna be an interesting day you think to yourself.

AS SAID BY CASSANDRA PENTAGHAST * assorted dialogue from dragon age inquisition, updated version
the truth is more important than my reputation, and anyone willing to accuse me of weakness is welcome to try.
i cannot stop thinking of our earlier discussion.
you enjoy making things complicated, don't you?
you can't be serious.
i simply wanted to steal a moment, while i still can.
i will not let him take you from me.
i want a man who sweeps me off my feet, who gives me flowers and reads me poetry by candlelight. i want the ideal.
pretend you don't know this about me.
the flirting. with me. i've... noticed it. unless it is my imagination, which is entirely possible.
i'm thinking less flattering things now.
perhaps this would be a good time to stop talking.
what makes you think i would welcome your pity?
you so rarely call me by my name, [name]. why is that?
you were together for a long time?
i enjoy fighting at your side, [name].
you're not as handsome as you think.
romance is not the sole province of dithering ladies in frilly dresses. it is passion. it is being swept away by the pursuit of an ideal. what is not to like about that?
i was hoping we could speak privately.
you're smiling a great deal these days. do you always do it while staring dreamily into the distance?
such fascinations reveal far more about the teller than the truth.
i did not realize it took so little to exceed your expectations.
i do not trust any event where hitting someone isn't an option.
me? in a dress? it's ludicrous!
what would i have to blush about?
i take it you think i'm frightening?
if you had done that in our last sparring match, you might have won.
were you not suggesting earlier i should be more intimidating?
how is manipulating and bullying people supposed to be enjoyable?
i don't wear "underpants."
if you are going to pursue this, make it worth it. be happy.
i've never considered what i must look like to someone common. i must indeed seem terrifying.
i wasn't very interested to begin with.
you will never let that go, will you?
i do not "rough people up."
do not pretend to be an innocent bystander.
are you eager to see me go?
what we had was fleeting.
this... is not a discussion i want to have here.
not all my feelings involve stabbing.
i am not without my sympathy, especially given recent events.
i thought you might be concerned.
i suppose that is all we will ever know.
thank you, [name]. that... does make me feel better.
i assume you have advice?
when it is done, i promise what you have done here will not be forgotten.
i thought you would be pleased.
no one has ever accused me of reinforcing reality before.
i should not have asked.
you have seen so much sadness in your journeys.
your opinion of me must be very low to surprise you so often.
i know myself and i cannot be the leader we need. thus, i have no regrets.
the world hinges on our actions. we face death at every turn.
it was an accident. well... mostly an accident.
we must pray it never comes to that.
what made you change your mind?

one of the most ludicrous terf phrases to me is saying that "trans women are men in dresses". so like you think that only biological naturally born female womyn can wear a dress. like you believe that this is an ontological truth that wearing a dress is for cis women only? what counts as a dress then, since cis men have been - and still are - wearing "dresses" on a daily basis for like. thousands of years. like do you believe that dresses should only belong on cis women's bodies. should all cis women wear dresses then? that's really fascinating tbh your radical feminism sounds like straight up misogyny
i know this is a moot point and that they're just saying that to be hurtful but i genuinely feel like being this stupid in public is deeply embarrassing.

Let me use this opportunity of getting weird Loumand anons once more to say something that's been on my mind:
All the bad faith, passive aggressive anon asks (especially those wanting to make the "ships" about the fandom "shipping them" (or not) because of "color" and "racism") I see around piss me off sooooo much.
Lets look at the "ships" we have so far:
Loustat: difficult, at times toxic, later not so much, endgame
Loumand: difficult, at first infatuated, then dead, later healing
Lesmand: difficult, at times insane, obsessive in parts
Devil's Minion: difficult, intense, at times insane, obsessive in parts, endgame
What have all these "ships" in common?
They are canon relationships. And they are difficult.
Two of those are endgame.
Let's dive in (a bit).
Loustat:
At this point not much has to be said about why Loustat are toxic in parts, but that changes - their character journeys are inverted, and they are endgame. Two sides of the same coin. They are "petty and in love" as Jacob called it, and they are "it" for each other, for better or for worse.
Loumand:
Born from Lesmand actually, because Lestat goes to Armand to make him care for Louis (and for Armand's blood), which... works. But the initial infatuation phase, while honest on Louis' side, is based on Armand's fascination with him because of Lestat. He gaslights Louis into loving him. I bet they will be very much shown to be in love, and then the shit will hit the fan and then... Louis will be destroyed, for a long, long time. Qualifies as toxic for me, too, btw. The Loumand in later years, in Trinity Gate (or Dubai?) is a more healing one, one where Louis comes to terms with who he is and what he wants in safe, stable, loving surroundings. And I bet they are freaks in the sheets :P
Lesmand:
Obsessive, and while loving definitely more so from Armand's side than Lestat's. He "imprints" on Lestat when he sees him because Lestat reminds him of Marius, and a lot of Armand's actions are informed by his need for Lestat, and the fact that Lestat upends his world. That said, the fascination itself is mutual, and I bet the show will have them engage in a proper affair.
Devil's Minion:
Wohooo, Daniel, a gift from Louis for Armand!!! Armand shifts full on obsessive and love on Daniel, Daniel, who will become his only fledgling. (And who goes mad for a while, too!) The show has obviously expanded the journey, but I don't think it will change too much - Daniel is the only one Armand could not let die. Talk about love beyond reason or endurance.
ALL OF THESE SHIPS ARE RELATIONSHIPS IN THE VC.
YOU CANNOT PUT A VALIDATION BASED ON SKIN COLOR ON THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL VALID.
And they are canon.
Saying the fandom doesn't "ship" Loumand because of them being POC is just ludicrous.
If you think Louis in Dubai in season 1 is "happy" I don't know what to tell you. We haven't really seen "happy" Loumand yet, and, depending on how they spin it(!) we might not even see it in season 2, though I think they will make it seem as if it is happy and "pure" at first.
But they might throw in the horror of Claudia knowing (and she does, canonically, she tries to warn Louis!) and being ignored by Louis (failing her again) in - in fact, I take the little info of the scenes we have of Sam and Armand filming as precisely that, namely that they make it clear that there is a relationship there as well... and how that relationship enables Loumand.
And then Armand will kill Claudia. And Madeleine.
And Louis will stay with him.
Personally I found later Loumand always very healing, as said. (But, personally(!!!!!!), also a bit boring. I love them, but... writing them (i.e.) does not hold much appeal right now.
But that might change with the upcoming seasons!) But the Loumand in Paris?? Hell, that's not even real, Armand gaslights Louis into loving him, uses his spell gift and mind gift as influence, poor Louis. And it will hurt Louis, incredibly so.
Making it seem as if people, especially people with a background in the books, do not "ship" them because of the actors' skin color... is just...
There's many, many reasons to ship them.
There's many, many reasons not to.
I OBVIOUSLY cannot speak for everyone. But these simplified takes are becoming so tiresome, when there are so many other reasons that need to be considered.
And honestly, as said before, I fully expect parts of this fandom to turn on Armand when he is being himself, when his relationship to Lestat is becoming clear, when his meddling and role in Claudia's death are clear and... can you imagine the outcry when they actually kill off the black (likely) lesbian character and her lover. -.-
If they actually chop of Claudia's head on stage.
Mayhem.
Which brings me to the next part:
My predictions for season 2:
Louis hurting, seeing Lestat everywhere (outcry)
Loumand in love, oh so sweet, look at them
Claudia gets a girlfriend!! (Sweet!)
What is Lestat doing there? (outcry)
What, Armand is interested in Louis because of Lestat?? (outcry)
What, Louis is yearning for Lestat?? (outcry)
What, Armand is doing what to Claudia (and Madeleine)? "ThEy KiLl tHe gAys!!" ((outcry)
Armand throws Lestat off a tower (Meh, he deserved it, should have been much worse)
What, Louis stays with Armand?? (outcry)
Whatever will go on with Louis and Lestat (outcry)
At some point people will turn on Assad, I agree here with what has been said by others on this.
They could not separate Sam from Lestat, they will not do so for Assad, in fact THERE I can easily see it be much worse, because of the racial implications.
I can also see them turn on Jacob btw, because Louis stays with Armand. "How could he". -.-
So: Even if you are only a "show fan", if you have no idea of what the books might bring... the hiatus is still very long, and going and hating on people, accusing them of racism, because people who know the books go a bit bonkers when they see certain bts photos... is on you - not them.
These ships are all canon relationships.
And valid.
End of rant.

:D talk to me abt Shelia! Love your posts and I'd love to hear abt your thoughts!
Hi! Thank you :)) SO.
My thoughts on Sheila Haywood are not 100% stable, and there were times in the past where I would often waver on whether I believed she was even actually Jason's biological mother-- there is some compelling tragedy to that idea, isn't there? He dies chasing a woman he never finds, dies for someone who was not who he believed she was at all... but nowadays I mostly apply Occam's razor here. I also am not a huge fan of the idea of Lady Shiva being Jason's biological mother because I like Jason not coming from some larger-than-life bloodline/inheritance besides the ones he is adopted into; it feels very close to the idea that Jason was "doomed from the start" to me (obligatory disclaimer that I have seen it done interestingly but. yeah anyway a lot of that goes into my feelings on Cass which is not the question here so I digress).
I find Sheila's life fascinating in the sense that she is, when we meet her, obviously a shitty person but shitty in a way that feels very real to me. She is often flattened or villanised in a way that I wouldn't say isn't fair to her but I would say is rather boring, and rather easy and one-note, anyway. I am not convinced, for instance, that Sheila was just born a heinous bitch or something; I'm fairly certain that she became opportunistic and ruthless out of self-preservation over time, to the point that I don't think it would be ludicrous to say she gave up Jason partly for Jason's sake as much as because she could not stomach being hindered by a baby. Also, on a different note, it is interesting to me that she didn't abort him (until he was 15, anyway). Maybe it was out of fear, sure, considering what happened at her hands, but maybe part of her did want to have him. I do not think there is a world in which she would have been the best mother to Jason, but I do think there are many where she was a mother of some kind-- and by some kind, I mean a very, very common kind. Women are not inherently maternal, or warm, or emotionally intelligent, and Sheila is not really any of these things and probably knew it, but I do believe she would have at least effectively gotten Jason to adulthood had they ended up in a world where he was her responsibility in a way she acknowledged made him her responsibility. A lot of my views on this are admittedly influenced by convos in dms, but yeah-- I don't think Jason, empathetic and sensitive and emotional as he is, could have ever gotten along with Sheila, but she is his mother. To Jason, who died trying to save her despite everything, that mattered; and, to Sheila, that mattered at the end, too, just far, far too late. I don't think Jason would mind having been buried near her-- actually, I think if Bruce knew exactly what went down it would bother him more to have buried Jay there than it would Jay, probably. I agree with that post that I think I reblogged recently that says if Sheila ever came back to life Jason would want her in his life. I agree with it so thoroughly I might write it myself one day.
And also she was really hot.
If we're going into constructed headcanon territory I do like the idea that Sheila is one of those Latina middle-aged women that bleach their hair that one specific shade of blonde when they hit 30 or so. Latines know which. But usually, tbh, when I'm feeling specific, I ascribe to the idea that Jason is half-Mexican on Willis' side, Willis who he thoroughly resembles, Sheila being white. I'm not married to any idea about her ethnic background or anything though.
Anyway, I could afford to have more thoughts about Sheila, tbh. I admittedly spend far more time thinking about Willis. I hope this was at least a bit interesting, anon :))

I see you have done some really thoughtful metas. What're your thoughts on Nie Mingjue? IMO he's a lot more complicated than he's usually assumed to be...
One of my classic absurdly late ask responses! Glad you enjoy the meta.
I think NMJ occupies a fascinating place in the narrative, because his ultimate fate is inevitable despite the fact that he theoretically has more agency than most (all?) of the rest of the main cast.
For a start he becomes clan leader at a young age, and while that comes with its pressures it's undeniably an influential position. He's the leading general of the Sunshot Campaign. Then, after the Sunshot Campaign, the Nie and the Jin are by some margin the most powerful clans. So, in a political sense NMJ has immense power. In theory he has the ability to make far better choices. He could stop persecuting JGY, who literally has no choice but to follow his father's orders, and he could choose to focus his ire where it belongs: on JGS. And he could also choose to counter JGS in ways that don't push the jianghu back to the brink of another devastating war.
Except he can't make those choices. And I want to make a strong distinction here: he is not like other characters such as JGY or LXC or JC, whose choices are limited by their clear understanding of their own limitations and the political landscape (including but not limited to the fact that a post-Sunshot descent into war between the Nie and the Jin would be catastrophic). No. NMJ's choices are limited because by the end of the Sunshot Campaign his mental capacity is irreversibly compromised.
Not only is NMJ terminally ill, but we're given clear examples of contrast between NMJ early in Sunshot and NMJ late- and post-Sunshot. Pre-Sunshot NMJ understands the Wen have political and cultivation power that utterly outclasses him and his clan, so he stands by and tolerates their existence. He knows it would be suicide to go up against them, and it's only when the Wen cross a line and all the clans unite that he's able to actually do anything about the fact that WRH murdered his father.
Contrast that to NMJ by the end of Sunshot, so irrationally obsessed with JGY that he's willing to jeopardise the hard-won (and fragile) stability of the jianghu by trying to kill him. Reminder: when NMJ kicks JGY down the stairs, he starts to follow him down with the express intent of killing him. As in, he fully intends to murder the legitimate son of his main political rival and an immensely powerful clan leader on the steps of his own home. That is ludicrous. Pre-Sunshot NMJ wouldn't have done something like that for his own beloved father, let alone for a grudge.
All of NMJ's flaws are obvious from the earliest point of his timeline: he's proud, he's inflexible, he's righteous but he's hypocritical. But early on we see examples of NMJ bending a little, of recognising nuance and showing, in his own inelegant way, his compassionate side. By the end, that's gone. The fan-burning incident alone (the fantrum!) demonstrates it. That's the way he treats his beloved didi, never mind how he treats his san-di.
Of course the narrative claims JGY can always talk NMJ round, but it's simply not true. In the end, the only way JGY can preserve himself is by making NMJ a promise he can't keep (to deliver XY's head) in order to buy himself enough time for NMJ to die and no longer be an immediate mortal threat. If JGY had not accelerated NMJ's decline, NMJ would have killed him and plunged the jianghu into another needless conflict.
I've spilled ink on the staircase scene already so I'm holding back on digging into this in more detail, but the fact is any discussion of NMJ's downfall is inextricably tangled up with JGY. The focal point of NMJ's descent is his obsession with JGY in particular, and it's important to remember what's relevant is not so much what JGY has or hasn't done but how NMJ treats him.
I do think one of the best ways to put it in context is to compare the way NMJ reacts to WRH to the way he reacts to JGY. WRH literally kills NMJ's father but NMJ has a cool enough head to know he has to bide his time. JGY on the other hand absolutely does betray NMJ's trust, in a situation where, again, if he does as NMJ wants (turns himself in) he's going to end up dead. And from that moment on, NMJ has no intention of giving JGY the benefit of the doubt. Yes, after LXC intervenes (remember, JGY would be dead without that intervention!) NMJ backs off and ends up agreeing to the sworn brotherhood, but he enters into the brotherhood in entirely the wrong spirit, seeing it as a way to monitor and subjugate JGY, who is already answerable to his father over and above any obligations to an elder brother.
Would NMJ at fifteen years old have listened to LXC and JGY's explanations in Qishan or later on the stairs at Golden Carp Tower? Possibly. But we don't have any examples of a time when he truly listened to JGY, and he was always going to end up this way regardless, taken out by a qi deviation and turned into the stuff of nightmares. JGY accelerated an existing process to save his own skin, but he didn't invent it out of whole cloth. So the tragedy of NMJ is not what JGY did to him. It goes back further than that, to when his ancestors first started cultivating the resentful energy of beasts.
Even then, contrasting NMJ to another character is illuminating. The text tells us NHS is in a bind: if he cultivates with his sabre, he's dooming himself. But if he doesn't cultivate with his sabre, he's pissing off his ancestors. The instinct then is perhaps to think—poor NMJ! He's in the same bind!
But NMJ never has a moment's doubt about sabre cultivation. NMJ knows the price and he pays it without question. NMJ doesn't agonise about how to balance his duty to his clan and his ancestors against his desire to not go violently insane. He accepts it as a fact of life and never thinks to question it or push back against it. He marches down the path that extirpates all his good qualities and leads straight to his worst self, and never so much as glances around in the hope of sighting a different way.
Again we're getting to that tension I find most interesting about NMJ: agency rubbing shoulders with inevitability. NHS finds a way to lead his clan and Word of God become Xiandu without cultivating with his sabre. Does that mean NMJ is responsible for his choices and he can't be absolved of his actions by blaming his inheritance? I don't necessarily have an answer for that, but I hugely enjoy exploring the question.
