today i honor eileen, who died an hour ago. she was a simple woman with simple tastes: good tomato sauce, not very good beer (the lady drank rolling rocks, but hey), homemade bread. she had ten children, nine of whom she gave birth to, and still liked babies enough to open an unofficial daycare at her home in the seventies. she sewed decently, baked wonderfully (a lot of her baked goods were slightly overdone thanks to a very old oven, but her piecrust is still the best recipe i've ever used. her soda bread was a bit sweeter than average, and now i don't like any other soda bread but her sugary, curranty loaf with a thick swipe of butter. she sang with a rich, warbly vibrato that i sometimes hear in my own voice when i'm excited enough. she played piano, not well, but all her life, more or less until she couldn't anymore. fur elise was her favorite piece to break out and show off. as long as i can remember, there was a puzzle on the vinyl tablecloth in the sunroom at her house. there probably is right now, 300-piece to accommodate for her increasing dementia, which would no longer allow her to do more complex ones. she had so many children and grandchildren that she rotated their pictures out on the top of the piano, always by birthday month. this month there would be my eldest aunt, my grandfather, and my brother. she was one of the scattered living diaspora of a tiny town in abruzzo - pacentro, population one thousand, which she visited once in the early oughts. my father used the photos she took there to paint a landscape of her family's hometown, which hung in her living room with the dark green couches and the long floral curtains as long as i can remember. when she still could, she and my grandfather would make the trip to our house in the height of summer, where pappy would pick grapes from our arbor or take home elderberries or the largest and woodiest of our green beans (he likes them that way - tough and starchy). she would nap on the couch (a ritual she called Resting Her Eyes) and then read to us: The Sleeping Giant, Tomie DePaola, anything she'd bought for us at some previous time. she read widely. towards the end, when what she could do was limited, she read pretty much all day long. it didn't matter what. i'm forgetting a million things about her even now. i've missed her for years, as she disappeared by pieces. but i loved her, and by god, i know she loved well.

Idk how to tell you but I think you're a pillar of the community.

do you think curly and anya got into arguments? what do you think is the silliest thing they ever argued over?

I think they all got into arguments. Stuck in a small space with only so much to occupy you with the same like 4 people. You learn patterns, you learn habits and odd little behaviors' they have. You learn to love or loathe them but I personally think these two would keep those type of gripes to themselves.

Personally I think they would argue over game nights because Curly is very much a “I don't really care about the game or if i win or lose ill have fun either way” person and Anya is so prideful and insistent that Curly would be so bitter if he kept losing, like her. It becomes a repeated back and forth because Curly is adamant he just would not care cause it’s a game, even mentions he lets himself lose with Jimmy a lot and they have a better time for it, and Anya just grabs him like the Cosmo and Timmy meme and rants about the thrill of running someone's pockets dry when they land on your properties in monopoly. He is taking the piss out of her. Like I feel like their arguments are just a bit absurd most of the time and like two casual friends teasing each other's quirks.

Though I feel if they had a real argument it would feel less like an argument and more like the most tense discussion of "I feel" statements and dead end routes. I can only really see them "arguing" about Curly's own health. Not pertaining to the games events (I tend to answer these type of asks as if it is prior or didn't happen), Curly does just seem to neglect himself in favor of is duties routinely, subsequentially impacting those duties. It's a lot of "I feel like you should rest more." or "I feel like this is not healthy for you." from Anya that inevitably turn into "Captain, this is not a good habit to have". Curly is a lot of "I feel fine"s that turn into "Please do not worry about me, Nurse Anya." and a sort of petty professionalism they put on when the other is being stubborn about the issue. I feel like he's also just a bit of a nag since he tries really hard to not be stern so its a sort of pestering but that's not Anya's specific.

They just don't seem like the types to bicker with each other because I don't think they want to be heated with each other, like arguing or you'd have to push them to that point unless it's something silly, in which the arguments sound like "I know you are but what am I >:)".

i hate the fact the term karen went from describing a bitchy entitled customer to basically the modern day equivalent of calling a woman a harpy (misogynistic as fuck) and that people use the term on people out in public who are at the end of their rope emotionally from stress or a shitty day. I get it just because your having a rough time doesn't mean you get to be a dick but sometimes I think people are seriously lacking in empathy and I get it a lot shit the customer might be dealing with isn't your responsibility but like if a customer is struggling with something simple maybe don't be a dick? Just a thought.

Because there are two really hard to swallow facts you need to hear:

#1.) This is, without a doubt, going to be the most important and instrumental election in American history.

#2.) Like it or not, the American Political System is a two party race. It wasn't supposed to be, sure.

But for right now it is. There's no ifs and or buts about it. The system is set up so that a third party candidate cannot win.

Every single vote that isn't counted for Kamala is a vote for Trump.

I don't care how leftist, or how progressive you think you are, if you're not willing to vote for Kamala then you're a Trump supporter.

If you are not loudly rallying behind and supporting Kamala, who is very likely our one and only chance of hope and progress, then you should either be quiet about it or else you are a Trump supporter.

If you're not willing to be an active participant in our society with how it works right now, then sit down and shut up and don't complain about anything.

If you think that they’re both equally bad then you must be privileged enough to feel safe in Trump’s America.

It’s a privilege for you to even consider voting third party or to consider throwing your vote away and not using it. It’s entitlement.

You feel safe saying that they’re the same.

But for us poor people, us queer and trans people, us disabled people, and for people of colour, for Palestinians and Ukrainians, and so so many more people, Trump’s America would not be safe.

Kamala could be our only chance at preserving our democracy and if you're not supporting her just for the sake of your own selfish performative white knighting about your "morals" trying to make yourself look good?

Then the only person you're benefiting is Trump.

So you're a Trump supporter.

If being called that doesn't feel good to you then maybe analyse why that is.

If being called a Trump supporter makes you upset, stop doing things that support him.

I think regardless of what my opinion on Hilary Hahn as an artist is I really can't help but admire her for not being afraid of aging and actually being outspoken about not being afraid of aging in an era and culture that is absolutely horrified of it. At some point she just went "yeah I don't look like I'm 30 anymore and that's because I'm 45" and stopped shying away from the fact whatsoever. That takes some actual real bravery because how often do you actually see celebrities doing something like this? Happy late birthday queen

One of my mutuals opinions is the "bro code" thing, that Curly is one of those guys who wouldn't care about the victim because the perpetrator is his friend and I'm really banging my head on the wall like that other anon. I've only played through the game once but Curly's behaviour/reactions etc read completely different from the "bro code" thing and I have to wonder if my mutual and I even played the same game.. like the constant digs at him from Jimmy, his body language in his face reveal and so on like you mentioned in your post. While this game is a little different obviously, it kind of reminded of a point in Alice Madness Returns that makes it very clear that Alice's pain blinded her to the abuse of the other children and her failure to act earlier because of it. Curly is guilty of a similar inaction but it doesn't change the fact he was a victim of Jimmy too. I don't think I can look at it any other way because both of these games have really stuck with me.

I genuinely think it really is the idea that people want a simple easy to blame problem and the idea that the only relatable victims of abuse are those that "surpass" it or do a lot to help others. When it comes to victims, especially those that don't fit the typical demographics, who either accidently perpetuate it, enable it or aren't ideal in some way shape or form, people jump to ignore what they went through as it's easier than dealing with those conflicting sentiments.

The bro-code conversation in Mouthwashing stems from a concept I generally dislike that there had to be something about Curly that made him meet or keep being friends with someone like Jimmy. I think people genuinely underestimate how many like decent and good people just know an asshole or are friends with someone who is really bad outside of their view/established dynamics. The game makes it clear none of the inaction against Jimmy is because of a lack of care, it is a lack of understanding from the privaleged postions they have as men to not have to worry about what Anya does/went through and the type of extremes men like Jimmy will go through to cover it up. They are all too preoccupied in their own strifes.

Another thing I see being oversaturated the idea that you have to be a freak, misanthrope or have a disorder to do the thing Jimmy does. The game is an escalation, it's a spiral that I don't see people comment on that Jimmy was not likely having the mood swings and episodes of rage/frustration we were seeing in the game. This is after they all start experiencing the worst moments in their lives that he got THAT openly bad. Of course, this is just my interpretation but much like in real life, people that go to extremes like that usually live mundane lives. It's a pressure cooker affect to where the stress made them pop. It's self inflicted but still the case.

I really think people need to be more willing to acknowledge that not everything needs to be an extreme or in black and white or easy to understand. It doesn't need to be happy or have an answer or solution, especially in the cases where the abused sadly helps perpetuate what they experience. It's not he should've known better from experience or shouldn't he have known what could've happened because victims tend to not like to think in matters of the worst. Not to mention, especially in cases of abuse where it feels so personally directed that you don't expect to happen to someone else.
