rafe is aware that his gf is grieving sarah, and he does feel bad, especially when charlie asks for 'aunty sawah'

rafe is doing his best to step up for his family however, and he tries to be there as much as possible them. he starts helping out with meals more and spends his free time playing with his son and reading books to him, taking him out on the boat too

when ward asks rafe to come with him to the bahamas, rafe tells his gf straight away. she's reading in their bed when he comes in softly smiling and a little teary.

"Guess what, baby?" Rafe asked, only to receive a low hum in response, "my dad, uh, he wants me to come with him to the Bahamas tomorrow."

At that she looked up, wide eyed and shocked. "Tomorrow?"

"Yeah, I-I know it's last minute but he said he needs me. You hear that - he needs me!" Rafe exclaimed, watching as his girl climbed out of the bed to wrap her arms around his waist. He felt the tension in his muscles relaxing at the feeling of her hands soothingly rubbing up and down his back.

"I told you he would come around, Rafe. You've been working so hard to prove yourself to him, and he sees it," she said, her voice muffled against his chest, "I'm proud of you."

when ward shows rafe the gold in the safe, all he can think about is being able to provide for his family. His heart feels warm and fuzzy when his dad praises him for looking after his own son, and he's just on top of the world in that moment

it all seems to come crashing down again so quickly and he's back in the obx with no gold, and a sister back from the dead. he comes back to tannyhill high on coke again and sweet gf gets so so mad at him

the couple have a bad fight, and then he has an argument with his dad, all culminating in rafe's meeting with sarah at the docks. gf is left alone with their son once again, feeling a sense of deja vu

she’s there when the police search tannyhill, scared and crying and clutching charlie tightly, his small babbles breaking her out of her stupor. the sheriff comes to ask her of rafe's whereabouts and she's just shocked and crying, having to be taken upstairs by rose as she mutters a stream of "no, no, no"

When Ward tells rafe to run, he only thinks about his family.

“No, no - I can’t leave them behind. I can’t go without them.”

“Rafe, give it a month or two and they can come join you, alright? It’s just for a while.”

gf being beside herself while rafe was in jail, rose and wheezie having to force her to eat and shower. she was so stressed and worried for him, knowing how fragile he was. she begs shoupe to let her see him, but is denied

after ward's death and rafe's release, his girlfriend is there to collect him from the police station. they're both sad about ward and gf comforts him as they watch ward's last video, hands clasped tightly together

when rafe learns that the cameron’s are in debt, he loses it. he can’t conceive the possibility their lives could change, and he especially can’t fathom the idea of not being able to provide for his girlfriend and son. he wants to be able to give them everything, especially when they have more children in the future like he plans

gf compliments his new clothes after he goes through ward's closet, telling him he looks handsome and like his father (his ego grows exponentially)

instead of rafe being interrupted by rose doing coke, it’s his gf, and though he gets mad initially, he’s soon sobbing into her embrace once again. he's just so sad and overwhelmed, but he'd never EVER dream of pulling a knife on his person

gf is spending most of her time in the cameron mansion, looking after little charlie, and watching over wheezie too

it's only once rafe frantically tells her they're all going to guadeloupe, does she start to realise that maybe the police had been correct in their suspicions

"Rafe... did you do it?" She whispered, her heart pounding so rapidly and with such vigour she thought it might rip from her chest. Rafe stilled above his luggage, his body frozen. His lack of response was answer enough.

"Oh my god," she cried, "You did! Why Rafe? Why would you do that to the Sheriff?"

Rafe turned around now, looking at his girlfriend pleadingly as she sobbed loudly, "I did it for us, ok? For you, me, and Charlie! To keep you safe - I did it for this family! Me! I kept us safe!" he yelled, his hands gripping tightly at her biceps. Rafe swore he felt a part of his heart break off at the scared look floating in her eyes, embracing her shaking frame tightly.

"It's gonna be all over soon, because we're gonna get on that boat and away from here, and everything is going to perfect. We're gonna be happy, ok?" He watched as she simply nodded against his chest, her tears soaking his grey jumper.

on the boat, gf sits with sarah comfortingly, both still in shock that ward was alive. ward had been so pleased to see his grandson, and she sat with the blonde toddler in her arms as he slept

“How can you be ok with this?” Sarah asked incredulously. She watched the girls face drop, her expression melancholic.

“I-I’m not, not entirely. But Sarah,” she began, “I have to do what’s right for Charlie, you know that. And Rafe, he and Ward promised that they would keep us safe, so I need to believe that, ok? I have to believe that,” she affirmed. Sarah noted it was almost like she was convincing herself as well, but not quite believing her words.

rafe coming to their shared cabin after speaking with an injured ward, crawling into bed and resting his head on her chest, sighing deeply as he feels her fingers run tenderly through his hair, silently crying after the days events, mumbling how much he loves her

author's notes: can you tell i get most of my inspo from songs? how very original of me, i know! in all seriousness, i always seem to get my best ideas when i lose myself in music filled daydreams. here's a lil' something inspired by noah kahan's forever, very jj coded might i add.

jj has never been good at holding onto things.

he learned young that nothing is permanent—not people, not homes, not even the ocean when the tide pulls back. 

forever used to sound like a death sentence. like a slow, inevitable decline into something worse. he never wanted to think that far ahead, never let himself imagine a future he wouldn’t be able to sustain. because forever meant watching things slip through his fingers, meant waiting for the good to turn sour, meant setting himself up to lose. his grip has always been loose, fingers slipping off everything he’s ever wanted to keep.

maybe that’s why he tells himself that whatever this thing with you is, it won’t last.

but it’s hard to believe his own bullshit when you’re stretched out beside him on the porch like some deity, your arm draped over your stomach, sundress bunched up just enough to reveal tanned legs. your hair spills over the wood like something out of a dream, and you’re looking up at the stars with that quiet kind of curiosity, like you’re searching for something, letting the summer air wrap around you like it’s got nowhere else to be.

jj watches you instead.

he won’t say it out loud, but there’s something about the way you exist—effortlessly, like you’ve never had to fight to keep anything in your life—that makes his chest ache. he wonders if you’ve ever lost something that mattered. if you’ve ever had to let go of something before you were ready. if you’ve ever held on so tightly and still watched it slip away.

she’s the kind of girl who could have anything she wanted, and yet here she is—choosing to be next to him. it doesn’t make sense. 

but then again, nothing about her ever has.

"you’re staring," she murmurs, not looking away from the sky as her lips twitch up into a barely conceivable smile

jj smirks. "can you blame me? you’re kinda blocking my view."

she scoffs, shoving at his arm. "oh, please—like you care about constellations."

"excuse me," jj says, pressing a hand to his chest like he’s been personally wounded. "i’ll have you know, i am very interested in astrology."

"astronomy."

jj waves a hand dismissively. "whatever."

she rolls her eyes, a smile on her lips as she turns her head to look at him. "okay, stargazer. if you’re such an expert, what’s that one?" she lifts a finger toward the sky, pointing vaguely at a cluster of stars. 

jj squints. "that one?"

"yeah, that one."

he clicks his tongue, nodding with mock seriousness. "that’s… uh, the big spoon."

she snorts first, a hand coming up to quell the noise—because she’s proper before anything else. her index and middle finger press beneath her nose as a laugh escapes anyway, bubbling up her throat, bright and unrestrained. "the big spoon?"

"yeah, you know. It’s like the big dipper, but—"

"but wrong?"

jj grins, pleased with himself as he watches you laugh. it’s a sound he wants to bottle up, to keep tucked away for the days that feel too heavy. the kind of thing that makes his chest feel too small for his ribs, like if he’s not careful, the warmth of it might slip right through the cracks.

the thought makes him shift, stretching his bad hand absently. it still aches sometimes when the weather changes, a dull reminder of a fight that wasn’t worth it. the break healed all wrong, a little crooked, a little off. kind of like him.

she notices. because of course she does. her laughter softens, fading into a quiet hum as her fingers ghost over his forearm, her voice practically blending into the soft whispers of the summer breeze. "does it hurt?" 

jj blinks, thrown off by the question and how she always manages to evoke a sort of delicateness in her every word and movement. "what?"

"your hand," she says, nodding toward it. "you do that thing sometimes—like you're shaking it off."

jj flexes his fingers, rolling his wrist before resting his arm back against his chest. "nah, not really. just a little stiff sometimes."

she hums, unconvinced, but doesn’t push. instead, her lips purse in thought and she watches him like she’s picking apart the things he doesn’t say. 

with a soft click of her tongue and smack of her lips, she finally speaks. "you do that a lot," she murmurs, squirming slightly, letting her back settle against the damp wood once more. "act like things don’t bother you when they do."

jj exhales, tilting his head back against the railing. "can’t complain. had worse."

she rolls onto her side, propping herself up on an elbow. "i don’t get you," she says, an unperceived pout tugging at the corners of her mouth. her voice is quieter now, like she’s speaking more to herself than to him. her eyes skim over his face like she’s trying to piece something together.

jj smirks.—cheeky, easy, practiced. the kind that makes his eyes gleam in the low light. he lets out a breathy laugh. "princess, i don’t even get me."

she huffs out a small laugh, but there’s something softer underneath it. she studies him for a second longer before dropping her head back down, her cheek pressing against his shoulder like it belongs there.

jj doesn’t move.

he hesitates for half a second before wrapping his arm around her, his bad hand resting lightly against her back. it’s instinct to hold her loosely—to leave space, to give himself an out, an uncomfortable mixture of habit and fear. he’s never trusted himself to keep the good things. never let himself believe he deserved to, always afraid of gripping too tight, of hurting what he means to keep.

but then you shift, curling into him like you’re settling in, like you don’t plan on going anywhere. and when you exhale a content little sigh against his collarbone, something shifts in him.

forever doesn’t feel like a death sentence anymore. it doesn’t feel like a weight around his neck, like something waiting to go wrong. it feels like more. 

more time, more moments like this, more of you.

jj swallows. tightens his hold just a little. just enough to know you’re real.

his grip might be loose, but this time—this time—he swears he won’t let go.

I’m very confused,

I don't know what animal Belphegor is. I thought at first she was a sheep. But then, I’m seeing on other social media platforms that she’s a llama.

So these are llamas, right? Belphegor does have the resemblance of a llama because of the long fluffy neck and hair.

But then.. she has horns. Her horns retract so maybe it's just a Hell thing, y’know. Them being demons and all. Then I thought, “Oh, you dumb fool! She’s probably an alpaca. They probably have horns.”

They don't. Actually, Belphagor could be more of an alpaca considering how fully she is. However, by looking at her side profiles, her nose/snout looks more like a llama than an alpaca.

And then there’s the theory that she has multiple arms like Beelzebub. So maybe, this is a hard maybe, she’s a hybrid of both a llama and a sheep or goat.

I’m saying goat because, hello, we’re in Hell. And also the fact certain goats have long ears like hers. Same goes with some sheeps.

I like to think she’s one of these goats/sheep to resemble the black parts of her hands and the end of her ears. Although, I think it’d make more sense if she’s a goat ngl. Even before we saw Belphegor’s current design, fannon art is often her as a goat.

So I decided to google what does a llama and goat symbolise.

I see that the llama and the goat resembles her perfectly.

The llama symbolises community, endurance and gentle strength. Just by looking at the Sloth Ring, they have a sense of community, unlike other rings. They probably have a lot of endurance when you see the type of jobs they have. Gentle kindness? I don't know, maybe it's part of her personality. We’ll probably see more of that in the future.

The goat on the other hand symbolises fertility, health and prosperity. Health definitely, Belphegor has a whole hospital and makes medicine/drugs for the whole of Hell. Prosperity, well, I wouldn’t say with confidence that the Sloth Ring is the most prosperous compared to other rings, but it definitely looks nicer and more progressive than other rings.

Fertility, I don't know. I don't know if Belphegor is a mom but she does seem to give off mom vibes. Also, it might not be fertility as in able to conceive children, I’m thinking fertility as in productiveness. Belphegor does produce and provide a lot of things. Her people do too when it comes to service.

If she is somewhat a llama, I’d like to think her spit has some kind of healing effect. Maybe half the medicine in Hell has her spit in it, disgusting I know, but it makes a nice headcanon. Or, maybe when she spits, she spits out candle wax. And whenever the candle wax spit lands anywhere, a candle grows or a flame erupts.

I’d be cute that when she made her first hellborn, all she did to differentiate her hellborns from other hellborns was spit on their heads to make a candle grow. 🕯️

Haven’t read many comics, but I’ve started reading stuff you post about, so I’ve read immortal hulk and 20th century men, and am going to start ultimate spiderman. Do you have any recommendations?

Here's a few that run the gamut from "quasi-foundational" to "I personally thought it was neat:"

Superhero:

Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons- the comic every superhero comic published since the 1980s has had to reckon with in some way, and which half the genre spent the 90s trying to emulate.

Superman: Birthright by Mark Waid and Lenil Yu- the bespoke canon origin story for Superman that was canon in the early 2000s through the twenty-tens. Remains one of the stronger attempts to do a retelling of his origin.

Batman: Year One by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli- a four-issue storyline covering Batman's extremely early career in Gotham.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Conceived as "The last Batman Story," features a fifty-something Bruce Wayne after he comes out of retirement to fight against an enormous crime wave against the backdrop of incipient nuclear war with the Soviet Union. This is the other grim and gritty superhero deconstruction that half the genre spent the 90s trying to emulate, and although it hasn't aged as well it's a useful read for context.

Runaways by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona. A marvel-universe excursion about a group of six teens and tweens who learn that their parents are actually a coven of incredibly powerful supervillains functionally running the entire west coast. They proceed to, well. This was one of those franchises that got zombified and pingponged between different creative teams, but the Vaughn parts are pretty strong.

Ex Machina By Brian K Vaughn and Tony Harris: The world's first and only superhero stops one of the twin towers from being destroyed and parlays this into a successful bid for mayor of New York.

Invincible by Robert Kirkman, Corey Walker and Ryan Ottley. Son of the most powerful superhero, yadda yadda, if you'd dodged awareness of the amazon adaptation I'm not sure how

Astro City by Kurt Busiek, Brent Anderson and Alex Ross- an anthology set in a constructed superhero universe, alternating between one-shots and longer arcs covering an enormous cast of characters over the settings 80-year internal chronology.

Rising Stars by J. Michael Strazynski- follows the rise and fall of the Pederson Specials, 113 children who were granted superpowers in utero when a meteor exploded over their home town-narrated decades later by the last of their number standing.

Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. A retelling of the first 30 years of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of photojournalist Phil Sheldon. On top of being an excellent story it's useful as a recap/primer for much of golden and silver age marvel.

Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. In the future of the DC universe, A jaded Superman comes out of retirement after the superhuman population balloons out of control and causes a nuclear detonation as a consequence of their cavalier approach to heroics. Unfortunately, his old-school approach isn't much better...

DC: The New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke. Retells the founding of the silver-age justice league against the backdrop of the red scare and following the collapse of the golden-age superheroic community after world war two.

Non-Superhero

Bone By Jeff Smith- Lord of the Rings by way of Mickey, Donald and Goofy. Three cartoon-creature cousins are run out of town and into a remote valley that's the site of a sprawling fantasy epic.

The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard- The zombie comic. There really hasn't ever been a runner-up

Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. Steampunk Dark Fantasy thing about a woman forced to share a body with a horrifying elder-parasite thing. Hard to summarize. If you thought RWBY handled the Faunus with insufficient gravity and thoughtfulness this is a good comic for you

East of West by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta. Weird-west alternate history where the U.S. balkanized after the Civil War. In the resultant cyberpunk urban-fantasy dystopia, three of the four horsemen are attempting to end the world; Death has defected and is attempting to stop them, in the hopes of reuniting with his missing wife and child.

Once and Future by Keiron Gillen and Dan Mora. A seventy-something retired monster hunter breaks out of her nursing home and press-gangs her hapless academic grandson into helping her prevent the return of King Arthur.

The Department of Truth By James Tynion and Martin Simmonds: In a world where reality is affected by consensus by collective belief, a deep state organization works to prevent conspiracy theories from being willed into existence by weirdos on the internet. Notable in that it's very visibly an exercise in trying to grapple with the uglier implications of the postmodern "reality-shaped-by-belief" tropes present in works like American Gods.

Saga by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples. The indie comic everyone wouldn't shut the fuck up about. Star crossed lovers attempting to navigate their mutual defection from two star-spanning empires locked in an eternal galactic turbowar.

Chew By John Layman and Rob Guillory. Tony Chu is a police detective with the power of Chibopathy- the ability to gain psychometric impressions from whatever he eats. Kept on retainer to partially cannibalize the corpses of murder victims to find out who killed them, his abilities ultimately see him drawn into a bizarre conspiracy surrounding an outbreak of bird flu that killed millions and resulted in the criminalization of poultry products.

Atomic Robo by Brian Clevenger and Scott Wegener The high-octane adventures of action-scientist Atomic Robo, an android constructed by Nikola Tesla in the 1920s who runs a think-tank of science-heroes. Described as "applying the Indiana Jones model to every other field of study." Very fun comic.

We Only Find Them When They're Dead By Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo: follows the exploits of a freelance crew of miners who work to extract tissues from the corpses of gigantic humanoid entities found floating in space, and their captain's heretical goal of being the first to find a living specimen.

Literally Any Comic Written By Kyle Starks, including (lightning round time) Rock Candy Mountain, Old Head, Sexcastle, Kill Them All, Assassin Nation, and Fuck this Place/I Hate This Place (title dependent on retailer squeamishness)
