Serendipity should be required viewing material before anyone tries to analyze Homestuck; not only is John Cusack a universal constant, but the themes and vibes of Serendipity are so fundamentally woven into Homestuck's DNA that several of Serendipity's thesises and conversations could be lifted directly from one to the other.
In particular, the way Serendipity utilizes coincidence and circumstantially simultaneous events in order to suggest - nay, decree - that the two leads belong together, is highly reminiscent of the way Hussie uses foreshadowing, and not just for romantic couples. It's also a major window into the ultimate stance Homestuck takes with regard to romance, fate, and destiny, and also more specifically, a really good look at Karkat's own personal philosophies of romance. There's a running theme in his movies of meeting someone that perfectly matches your freak, someone you don't ever need to compromise yourself around, who brings out the best in you.
Also, some of yall need to watch a shitty romcom every once in a while and develop some emotions

I'm so angry at the hate some stays are sending Hong Seokcheon. Stop projecting your own homophobia onto Felix. I'm literally so angry. Like what the fuck

[Image description: A digital drawing of Angie from the film R.H.I.N.O.; Really Here In Name Only. She is on the left of the piece, wearing her first shown outfit of a jumper and shirt, a woolen coat, and a checkered scarf. Her hands are in her pockets, and her expression is blank, but leans a tad dour. She stares off to the left. Next to her right shoulder, there's the phrase "really here in name only" which descends with each word. In a panel which molds it borders around the words, there's a drawing of a fire escape. Though their upper half is obscured and unidentifiable, Angie can be seen descending the spiral staircase with Charley in her arms, as denoted by the small blue jacket there. There's a green expanse behind it. The background of the piece is purple and the lineart is a dark green. The colours have a purple-tone to them, and are fairly dim and desaturated.]

I have such a love/hate relationship with HH...
love the huge step forward it has taken for indie animation,
hate how crazy it makes people
#merz talks#not meant to be flame#but people who love LOVE it can be... a lot#and people who hate HATE it are also too much#my take is the combo of biblical ideology and themes that make people uncomfortable sets people off especially on the internet#where opinions have to be so black and white and insanely polarizing#but i think like if you remove the context of the extreme love and the extreme hate for HH#you get just A show#and at the end of the day its not objectively awful but not flawless either#whats fucked is how small children are obsessed with it and i know this first hand from being in elementary classrooms and hearing the kids#sing the songs and talk about it#but its not the childs fault when their parents are the ones that shojld be paying attention#and its not like its gonna destroy the kid to have them watch HH#but in most cases theyre probably gonna have a point where they realize as an adult#that it was super fucked for them to have consumed that content so young#anyway im rambling now#oh and tbh i thing a lot of the hate for the creator is based on random inferences people are making from the show#like “creator romanticizes sex abuse” but like really its just that the topic is presented in a flashy way#and when you watch it its very clear that the audience is supposed to root for that characters escape from that situation#rather than want that character to keep being abused#but because its flashy and in such a stylized manner people think its romanticizing#how long can i keep going#this is why i love tumblr#if ur still reading thank u#for being at my ted talk

Ok I didn't want to say anything but I need to get this out: don't you think its weird that the anime changed the most meaningful moment between atsushi and aku (and even some small moments such as akutagawa's shock expression when fukuchi tells him to kill atsushi) to make it looks like he doesn't care about atsushi at all(and even added that line of "ango told me everything" taking away atsushi's moment of reflexion in the manga) but then changed that scene of aku and higuchi(which was supposed to be terrifying in the manga) and made it look way more suggestive???
... I think I'm not the right person to ask this to. I mean, I have evident sskk bias, so it's pretty hard to tell whether my judgement is objective or not.
I've considered the scenario the Fukuchi vs. sskk fight was adapted like it was in order to water down the queer subtext - I mean, that scene in the anime does feel straight, in a way the same scene in the manga definitely doesn't -, but in the end I feel like it's too wide of a stretch to say it was done intentionally. It is hard to believe Bones steps away from homoerotic subtext (Dead Apple is literally out there), and it's probably more likely this has just been an instance of sskk being very very unlucky to be adapted in one of the seasons with the least budget destined to them.
I'm not sure what to think about the Higuchi / Akutagawa scene. It was very pretty, definitely better animated than the entirety of the previous episode, but I'm guessing it kept consistent with the quality of the rest of ep 4, so I doubt it got some kind of special treatment? ... And even if it did, idk, I feel like the problem isn't when scenes are animated well, it's when they aren't. The problem shouldn't be the Higuchi / Akutagawa scene being animated well, as much as it should be that all the other episodes should have met the same standard, which they didn't.

it has to be said though, I had a lovely rest of the day after my breakdown this morning. it was very cathartic. painted for like eight hours after that, and had a good time doing it.

I wrote a big long analysis of a movie (it was already like nine paragraphs and I only got through the opening scene) and some images glitched when trying to paste them in so I hit ctrl+z and it deleted everything. im fine. this is fine.

last magireco bitching post for tonight i promise but i think all those people who complain that sayaka and homura are abusive and horrible and unreasonable for the crime of being manipulated and traumatized 14 year olds in awful situations and arent perfect little victims about it should go watch magireco and have their brains implode bc i think yachiyo is like. so much worse
#like yachiyo is actually an adult first of all they say shes in college and has been working for seven years#and i wont deny shes been through shit. shes felt guilty for her wish and watched her friends die#shes still a sympathetic character where u get why shes cold. but GOD the way she treats mifuyu makes me uncomfortable#like she regrets the worst of it when her doppel shows up but the narrative and mifuyu still go#''oh no yachiyo you ARE right to say that tee hee''#yachiyo gives me the vibe of someone who's like ''well IM suffering because of my choices. so should YOU''#also how she gets pissed at mifuyu for getting taken into a cult when shes at her lowest#and again keeps calling her weak like. good lord leave her alone#like. at least sayaka has a clear reason for acting the way she does and we see that in the show#shes guilty and traumatized from mami's death and is selfless to a fault#she blames homura for mami's death because of her own prejudices that have been instilled in her by then#she basically self sabotages and hurts herself because she thinks shes worthless compared to mami#she lost her childhood friend who. tbh really WASNT treating her well like obv he doesnt owe her a romance#but hes her childhood friend and he basically constantly brushes her off in the show#and we see more of that in rebellion where he does the same to hitomi#like. sayaka fucks up she gets cruel but you GET why she does it and it feels earned and good for the plot#yachiyo though. part of this is just character bloat and the weird pacing but her nastiness doesnt feel earned#yes season 2 shows that she wants to distance herself from others because her friends died. thats fair#that explains why she was cold in season 1. sure. thats fine that works as an arc and i usually love arcs like this#but then she's cruel to the lower grunts who were absolutely manipulated into the magias#and constantly implies theyre weak#and berates mifuyu (her best friend apparently) for breaking down after learning the truth#because ''oh well we DID accept this. we were idiots after all. lmao get over it and fight again''#and mifuyu is evil incarnate that must repent forever for. getting dragged into a cult at her lowest moment#after her friend was a dick to her fresh off her trauma. and of course leaving her which gave her Abandonment Issues#god sorry maybe the rest of the show will save it for me maybe itll call out this behavior from her#also it bugs me how even her cold behavior isnt really mentioned and shes just fawned over by the rest of the cast#like. sayaka and homura's behavior was called out as unhealthy and bad for them and the others!#echoed voice
