One of my biggest (and admittedly nerdier) fascinations/special interests is lost media. Doesn't matter the type of media; it could be a TV show, animated children's movie, a commercial that premiered once and was subsequently vaulted, a religious show on a local public broadcasting channel, a misprint copy of a book, etc. etc.

I just love it all. Anyway. I want to share a lost media thing of my own that I remember interacting with at one point in my childhood, but has little to no attention on it. More on it below the cut, if you're interested.

If you were a kid (fuck it, any age) in the late '90s and into the 2000s/early 2010s specifically, you might've had one of these:

This is a Baby Bottle Pop. They are a sucker/sugar combo candy. Basically acting similar to FunDip; you suck on the lollipop top (the part that looks like the nipple for a baby bottle) and then dip it inside the bottle, where there's flavored sugar. Typically, the sugar is flavored something like strawberry or blue raspberry, something fruity. These are still produced; although, I haven't seen them on a grocery store shelf in years—seems like they're sold at special confectionary stores in malls now, like Lolli & Pops, but I haven't seen them next to Kit-Kats at the checkout stand since I was a kid.

Anyway.

Back in the early 2010s, Baby Bottle Pop had this promotional thing going on. Where, if you bought one of these candies, you'd be given an exclusive online code. (The cultural zeitgeist of late 2000s/early 2010s internet.) The online code gave you access to this MMO game, much like other exclusive online codes on products at the time—functionally similar to Webkinz, though you weren't redeeming a virtual pet to take care of.

You'd make an account via Baby Bottle Pop's website, babybottlepop.com, once you had access to the code. You needed a code from a purchased product in order to get in. (If the product wasn't purchased and you tried to use the code, it would be immediately invalidated as it hadn't been activated. Y'know, think of it as an inactive gift card). (Also, this is what really separated BBP's MMO from other advertised children's MMOs. Webkinz, you didn't have to purchase a pet in order to play, but it was cooler if you did. BBP required that you purchased a product or you couldn't play. Shitty, I know.)

Once in the game, you'd design an avatar that looked exactly like a baby, and then you'd have access to mini games, other player's avatars, and a point and click free roam world (highly similar to how Club Penguin functioned).

There is one commercial that I found from the Baby Bottle Pop campaign I'm thinking of. It's circa 2012, advertising the candy (of course) and then telling you that if you redeemed the code given to you, you could make what they called a "Crazy Baby."

That's it. It's a fifteen second commercial. The live action kids turn into Crazy Baby counterparts, the art style similar to that of the game. Featuring them complimenting each other on the way they eat their Baby Bottle Pops.

And, also, I don't even know if this commercial is advertising the MMO. It could just be advertising the exclusivity of making an online avatar. This commercial mentions nothing about roaming around a virtual world and making friends with other Crazy Baby players. But since it advertises something that could be similar or even exact to what I'm talking about, I'm bringing it up.

The only things I've found that mention or are on the same lines as this game/avatar creation are one article from 2008 (when the website first launched, I'm assuming?), this commercial, a post made on the r/LostMedia subreddit, and a singular twenty-five minute YouTube gameplay video.

Speaking of the gameplay video, it's from user, Crawler929. It's the only gameplay video I found. It's the only one other people have even mentioned. And while I'm a little skeptical of the commercial I linked, it's worth noting that this gameplay video and that commercial are from the same year, 2012. It's highly likely that those things are connected. Though, there was a promo campaign for another online game called Baby Bottle Pop Message in a Bottle from the late 2000s—probably 2009, as that is the posting year from the person who shared it. (And considering how the main child actress looks similar to Hannah Montana, the character from the show of the same name that was on air at the time, this year could be accurate).

Visiting the BBP website on the Internet Archive via the Wayback Machine is basically one huge error. You'll reach a turquoise and orange-accented screen with a load up bar with the word "Ruffle" on it, and then be met with a black screen. Scrolling up and down on the black screen leads you nowhere, it's basically just a void.

There's nothing else. No other part of this MMO shows up on the internet. The original site no longer exists, now replaced with something called Candy Mania. I'm assuming BBP is owned by the same company or is made by the same manufacturer as Push Pop, as Push Pop has a game on this site. BBP, though? There's barely anything, possibly nothing.

Honestly, I just wanted to share this because it's kinda crazy and kinda sad that stuff like this is just gone. But it's worth saying, too, that this game will most likely never exist again or be resurfaced. Games like this made for promotional events for products never last. They're around for like a year and then get shut down when the event is over. It's sad, but true.

These games also don't have the same sort of fanbases as other big MMOs for kids did at the time. They won't be remade like Club Penguin, ToonTown, or even The Pirates of The Caribbean Online were. Lost to time and also conglomerate company greed.

Anyway, this is just some nerd stuff that I'm into. And I have so many other lost media stories that I like talking about, but this is the only one that I actually have ever interacted with. A game I never thought I'd lose.

A Headcanon Fact about Every Main Character in my Melancholy Double Up AU

I've been making a bunch of notes and headcanons about my AU, and I've been wanting to share them. So here it is!

(Just a bit of a tw, but there are mentions of gender dysphoria, but no going into depth)

Knife: Knife has trouble thinking of what her favorite game console is, but her personal favorites came out when the aesthetic Frutiger Aero was popular, like the Wii, DSi, and Xbox 360.

(NOTES: Knife does like the Playstation 2, but when she was younger, she was slightly terrified of the menu screen from how eerie it was to her. She never told anyone out of embarrassment. Actually, all of the gaming consoles that she likes kind of scare her. They all feel weirdly scary to her)

Toro: Toro, due to his naivety and childish world view, tries to copy off what he sees in movies and cartoons to look cooler. It always ends with Knife having to stop him. Although Knife does find it cool that he can accurately copy some of the stuff he sees, she would rather not let him get hurt.

Bandit: Bandit secretly wishes he was a girl, as he would feel more comfortable in his body and plus he thinks women are cool. He also has a lot of female video game role models such as Bayonetta, Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw, Ramona Flowers, and even Lain funnily enough.

Kuro: Kuro has two guitars, Haruhi and Haruka. Usually he uses Haruhi for the usual fighting and playing, but sometimes he’ll take Haruka too. Honestly, he has Haruka for backup.

(NOTES: Haruhi is an electric guitar, while Haruka is an acoustic guitar.)

Lain: Due to how they met, whenever Lain is having a bad mental health day, Bandit always tries to help her out. Dude will literally clean the whole house if that means she’ll be happier and okay.

Suzuki: Suzuki secretly likes to dress up as Jecka from the Class of ‘09. Only Kuro and Bandit knows this.

Paintbrush: According to the official Inanimate Insanity website, Paintbrush tries to keep up with their bristles to try to make them look nice. The opposite is true for Painty in this AU, and in the Melancholy of Knife Nanami in general, as due to their job as a spy with how much active they need to be, makes it harder for them to keep up with. They are very tired.

Pierre: Similar to Ramona Flowers, Pierre actually dyes his hair after a certain amount of time has passed. If we were going by cartoon logic (Which honestly, I would), he would be doing it every 3 weeks like Ramona in the comics.

Nanami: Nanami often gets mistaken for being half-human, half-cat, when in actuality, she’s half cyborg, half fox.

Jun: Similar to Bandit, Jun wishes she was a boy, and she constantly has gender dysphoria because of it. Pierre and Paintbrush have been helping her after she told them about it.

Craphead: Although looking like a man in his mid 40’s that’s in the middle of a midlife crisis, Craphead is actually 19.

Barf: Although he’s basically another version of Kuro, Barf doesn’t drink alcohol due to the fact he’s 18 years old. He’s instead obsessed with drinking energy drinks. Craphead has to stop him from drinking too much by forcing him to drink water. If it weren’t for him, Barf would be having health issues from drinking all that Rockstar Energy.

(Un)Happy Harbor

Today I had to go on a boat trip.

For some reason. My shipment of turquoise fishing shirts got sent to a small fishing Island Called "Happy Harbor" a few miles from the the docs.

I have booked a day trip to retrieve my shirts and return the package I had gotten,

When I had arrived. The woman known as Captain Abidab had a single turquoise shirt (showing she had the rest). I also had a single bottle of shoe polish.

The delivery company had hired an artist to draw a picture signifying that the messed up an order

Anyways.

The after bringing The rest of the shoe polish down from the ferry. Captain Abidab had told me to come with her to her ship at a near by doc.

I then realized why she had order so much shoe polish.

Her ship really was a giant shoe

I assume that there might have been some exaggeration or some sort of inside joke when they potrayed it as a shoe on the TV show.

Anyways

As I was given my box of shirts on her ship. I went back down to get the shoe polish. Leaving the shirts on the floor.

When I came back down

MY BOX OF SHIRT ARE GONE AGAIN.

I looked around The Small area in front of the docs.

I nearly given up... Until.

There was a small boat with a toad, a Pecan (pelican species), and A Penkoon (half raccoon half penguin) and U'ensil (a species that looks like utensils commonly found in the Luncheon region of the world)

As soon as I was about to jump into the water and swimming after them. Captain Abidab had caught the back up of my collar with handle of a harpoon and hoisted me up onto her ship.

Captain Abidab: Listen lad. It ain't wise to go after battle when it's four against one. Especially if you're the one in that fight.

Garth: Then what am I supposed to do.

Captain Abidab: Tell you what boyo. You shine this ship and I'll take you to those scallywags.

I had agreed and began shining at the toe of the boat

It was not long before we managed to find the thieves who had stolen my shirts.

Apparently they were on a smaller boat trying to gather supplies for a pirate ship called the S.S. Tea Cup, a ship that houses the black sugar gang.

We tried to not be at a close enough distance for which they could see us.

It turns out they actually had stolen some other things. Like some sausages from a butcher, some bread from a baker, and a copy of the Movie "Dirk Drain Head 2000" from the bootlegger.

We decided to ambush them and take back the stuff they have stole.

As soon as we need our presence known, they jumped on The shoe boat. I immediately got attacked by the Penkoon as he body slammed into me. As soon as I managed to regain my footing. I got the mop I was using earlier to polish the boat and started polishing the area around him causing him to slip.

I saw that Captain Abidab was in trouble and proceeded to help her. She was fighting using her harpoon with the toad who was using a... Rainbow lollipop for some reason

I grabbed something from one of the bag of stolen goods.

I threw...a pink frosted sprinkle donut.

I got lucky and managed to make him slip on the donut.

Before I could do anything. The pecan had thrown the U'ensil to the mast pinning me to it.

I was unable to do anything that could unpin me.

I watched as Captain Abidab had manages to Handel fighting of the other three. It was very impressive.

Eventually the Penkoon had been flung and dislodged the U'ensil freeing me.

I had just managed to finally get away.

I had finally managed to get back to the fight and help defeat the other two pirates.

It took a bit of time. But we managed to finally defeat them.

We ended up picking up their boat

And headed back tho the harbor.

At least that is what we are supposed to do.

Then the U'ensil tore the sails and began swimming away.

...

There was no replacement sails.

I'm glad that I am on land again. And I am glad that all of the goods were returned to there owners.
