my usual view is that people are infinitely deep and complicated and you can know somebody intimately for 10 years and still discover new sides to them, but at the same time, a single conversation with someone can occasionally be enough to reveal a key part of themselves. like they say one thing and you know INSTANTLY what their deal is. i suppose then you still don't know them particularly well in terms of their individual personality or character but that one key thing will allow you to make an infinite number of deductions about their life and it is a FASCINATING feeling. anyway this happened with my dentist yesterday. he mentioned one single thing (that i don't care to repeat) and all of a sudden it was like the curtains had lifted. i was watching this supercut of his life and he became a completely different person before my very eyes lmao
