WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! An actual bed scene? In Final Fantasy? This is a series where sex is non-existent/entirely offscreen. Sure, there’s Cloud and Tifa’s night under the Highwind, or Tidus and Yuna’s really long kiss in the water in FFX that people think was a metaphor for sex or that technically Wakka and Lulu had to have had sex in order to make their baby; but even then, those examples were more chaste than titillating.

Though, to be fair, this does more apply to basically like 95% of all JRPGs in that, even if they do have romance, it only goes as far as kissing (which even then it’s still pushing it) and for the majority of the game it will remain teasing romance or the interactions remain platonic. For specific examples, the Tales of games (which a number of games do have romances in it), after 28 years and 17 main title games, there are about only 3 kisses in the entire series (Tales of Symphonia 2, Tales of Arise and technically Tales of Graces but only in a side quest and it was an accident). Fire Emblem, despite the S-Supports, Marriages and having children as part of the gameplay, has no mentions or allusions to sex whatsoever (though it being a Nintendo game definitely plays a part in that). Even Persona, the series famous for its romance options and does go out of its way to explicitly allude that your romantic partners do go all the way with your player character, keeps the scene entirely offscreen and some players still find it ambiguous. And, on a final note, there’s Trails of Cold Steel 4 where there is a point in the game where main character Rean does in fact have sex with his chosen romance options (note: NOT any of the ones that are his students) but it is kept ambiguous except for these 3:

I think the JRPG that really pushed it to that level of explicitly sexual (but still keeping the sex scene offscreen) would have to be Xenogears.

Yeah, that’s about as explicit as JRPGs go. I know this does count as a rant, but this doesn’t make me mad; it’s just something I noticed that kinda bugged me. Though to be fair, I think Japanese media in general (other than specific media) does go out of its way to keep sex out of it.

(Trails of Cold Steel) Old Class VII gals accidentally hurting their S/O during training

I want Laura to snap me like a toothpick.

Also less angsty, more funny than anything

Laura's greatsword slams against S/O's weapon, knocking them straight onto the floor.

At first, she's a bit proud.

(Laura) "Looks like I've won this match...S/O?"

Upon realizing they weren't responding, she drops her sword and rushes to their side in a panic.

(Laura) "S/O?!"

(S/O) "OW...P-Proud of you, dear."

(Laura) "I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to- I'll get you a healer-"

She's extremely flustered and doesn't really know what to do. At first she goes for the door, before suddenly going back to them, not wanting to leave them alone.

(S/O) "Laura...just, bring me to the clinic, please-"

Laura picks them up very quickly, which ends up hurting them more which she almost dropped them.

It turns into an entire fiasco where trying to get S/O help ends up injuring them more somehow. Even though S/O laughed and said it's fine, it brings her such embarrassment to recall the memory.

Fie quickly leaps into the air before landing on top of them, and as they tried to get up, she quickly swept their legs and let them land face first to the floor.

She turns back to them, slightly cringing at the noise.

(Fie) "Crap, you alright? That sounded like it hurt."

(S/O) "Oooow! Motherf-!"

S/O had a hand over their nose as they tried to get up before tripping again.

This time, Fie was fast enough to catch them. Though keeping them up was another story. They fell on top of her since her arm strength wasn't great, and S/O was now lying on Fie as she just simply blinked.

(Fie) "Wow, keep it in the room, S/O."

She said with the most deadpan voice.

(S/O) "I think my nose is broken."

Fie gently sat them up and put her fingers on their nose.

(S/O) "What are you-"

Fie realigned their nose with a semi-loud snap, making them wince in pain and yelp out. Being raised by Mercs doesn't tend to make one gentle.

Even though they were cursing up a storm, she gave them a kiss on said nose gently, and made sure to ask Emma how to make things up later.

(Fie) "...Sorry, by the way."

It sounded like she didn't care, but truthfully she felt horrible. She couldn't look them in the eye for the rest of the day.

Emma was hesitant to use her magic on S/O and this was exactly why.

...Well, not exactly the way she imagined it would.

She casted a sleeping spell on them, which caused them to slide off the training mat and onto the ground.

Which then caused several sports balls to fall on their head.

(Emma) "Oh dear."

She ran over to cast a healing spell on them, her worry growing more and more when they weren't waking.

Thankfully, they opened their eyes but reached where her hand was.

It was definitely going to bruise.

(Emma) "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you-"

(S/O) "Ow! Emma, please don't worry, it's fine. I was sorta asking for this anyway."

Another ball fell onto their face, which startled Emma and accidentally let their head drop on the floor.

(Emma) "S-SORRY!"

Alisa in close quarters combat with her bow in the event someone got too close.

Which resulted in the bow hitting S/O's jaw, into their stomach, then finally an overhead smash.

Her battle instincts from the war kicked in, and she was surprised by her own skill.

(Alisa) "W-Wow, I didn't know I could do that! HA! S/O, did you see that!?"

Sharon simply clears her throat and gestures to the ground as she's preparing a first aid kit.

(S/O) "Y...Y-Yeah...I saw."

(Alisa) "Aidios, are you alright?!"

She's beating herself up for hurting her own S/O like that, but more so asking a stupid question when they still haven't gotten up.

(S/O) "...Been better."

Her and Sharon are quick to act, Alisa's instinct to apologize profusely but managing to keep it an and just tend to the girlfriend inflicted injuries.

Sara's Orbal Pistol had a mode to where it only injured, and not killed, which made it perfect for training.

Unfortunately, she didn't hold back and unleashed her full wrath, showing S/O why she earned the nickname "Purple Lightning".

In an instant Sara went right behind them and fired off several shots intending to hit their shoulder.

Instead every one hit their ass.

They yelped out as they dropped their weapon, making Sara snicker.

(S/O) "OW! Sara, what the hell?!"

(Sara) "Sorry, meant to hit your shoulder-"

(S/O) "HOW DO YOU AIM THAT LOW?! Are you drunk or something?!"

(Sara) "Just wanted to give you a heads up, show you where I'm looking! Haha! Ha...ha...?"

Clearing her throat awkwardly, she helped them out.

(Sara) "S-Sorry. Not funny?"

(S/O) "No."

(Rean) "You're sitting kinda weird. You alright?"

(S/O) "No, Sara hit my ass so hard that I can't sit right at all..."
