Bloody Hearts Bingo Day 23
Prompt: Whump, Ooh La La | Whisper dirty secrets while I'm pulling on your hair, poison in our veins but we don't even care
It was times like this, Uryuu thought, that reminded him why he loved learning. The chance to master new skills, to understand more and experience the feeling of every piece snapping into place, of complexity spiralling outwards in perfect patterns- it was intoxicating, brilliant, and he knew he'd never get enough of it.
Kisuke (he'd demanded they use his name or a nickname when not in the field) stood behind him, adjusting his position every time he shifted out of it and murmuring a string of instructions in his ear. He'd insisted that they help him in the more complex workings, ensuring that they knew each other inside and out and allowing the practice of skills that might have needed an awful lot of work to refine otherwise.
Uryuu had picked his specialization quickly- the physical side of things reminded him too much of Ryuuken's demands that he study medicine, so while he'd picked up enough to be a passable battlefield medic, he'd thrown himself into the metaphysical side of things with a passion.
"Careful, Uryuu-kun," Urahara murmured, directing his head with a casual tug on his hair, "you wouldn't want our dear Ichigo-kun to have to deal with snags, now, would you?" Uryuu suppressed a shudder and smoothed out another set of snarls in the power that ran all through Ichigo's body. It took time to detangle the horrific mess of three disparate beings' natures shoved into a single vessel, but the work had proven a great benefit.
Uryuu pulled back, finished with the section, and Orihime's power flickered, sealing up the small physical wound necessary as Uryuu bent a single flicker of Ichigo's reiatsu to split open his skin in another spot. Fine threads of power reached into the hole, pulling out the knots of power and tugging here and there for Uryuu to work. Occasionally, the IV still in his arm tugged, reminding him of his presence, but he dismissed it easily- it was as close as it could be, and the limit was a good reminder to pace himself, move slowly and steadily and not rush things. This was not the first time he'd helped peel Ichigo open to help him mend things and it wouldn't be the last.
It wasn't the first time he'd hurt one of his friends to help them, either- Orihime had taken her turn learning as they carefully cleaned out the crystal growth in his arms- this time Orihime did most of the work, Ichigo providing a steady flow of Hollow-tinged power as Uryuu slipped his threads past skin into flesh to ensure there were no empty spaces, needles nudging things into place and shaving off the slight protrusions that lingered on bones. He now laid in the recovery room, waiting for the anesthesia to run its course.
Kisuke's hands shifted, lifting one arm and tucking the other slightly inwards. Uryuu let him move him, more focused on a tricky knot- it was a delicate balance, made only possible by the way the Quincy power and Hollow power seemed to be trying to cooperate, though frequently he had to tug thin filaments of Shinigami power to let the two coexist for long enough not to destroy each other.
Uryuu let the song that had been stuck in his head slip out, humming quietly as he kept working. Orihime picked up the tune, humming in harmony, and they continued their work. Some of it was more darning than anything, weaving threads of power into place to reinforce weak patches till they could heal. Some of it was mending, repairing the parts where opposing forces had ripped each other to shreds. All of it would ensure that Ichigo was stronger than ever, and for the protection of his friends Uryuu would do far more.

love when this is referred to as the gifted kid website. shockingly my mental disorders made me mentally disordered and school never really vibed with that so. couldn’t be me
#ppl always talking about their whatever grade reading level and how many books they’d read as kids and im just over here like🧍🏽#I’ve never been actually bad at english or reading but I couldn’t focus on reading books to save my fucking life#I hated those sheets where you had to read like a certain number of books or whatever over the course of a semester or the year or whatever#my GATE test scores for english were super high but my math was bad enough that I never qualified#and adhd made me not even perform well in English half the time because I couldn’t pay attention I couldn’t read long books I couldn’t turn#in my assignments or if I did they were late and etc etc etc#don’t get me started with math#I was the worst in my class in third grade at minute math and never made it to the levels of minute math my classmates did#(they posted results on the wall for everyone to see)#and in 6th grade I was put into an additional remedial math class#throughout middle-high school I was at the level of most classmates in terms of the classes I took but that’s only because I was not allowe#to fail and was put through absolute fucking hell with a billion tutors and grueling hours of extra work from them and blah blah blah#like I remember how I felt in those tutoring sessions and half the time I actually wanted to cry.#I didn’t start doing solidly genuinely Good in school until senior year of high school.#not coincidentally around the same time I started taking adderall I think#I had accommodations by 9th grade but they didn’t do that much except for the function that let me turn in assignments up to 2 days late#without penalty. which i had teachers question sometimes and i had to pull the Yeah it’s Literally Against The Law to not allow me this car#anyway. point is. i was never in the gate program and most of my friends were and it was mostly adhd related#adhd is considered such a quirky nothing disorder nowadays that I don’t even like mentioning I have it really. because what people think of#when I say the term is Not what i actually dealt with and made school torturous and made my parents lash out at me for things and etc etc#depression and dysphoria did not help either. but I digress#I’m not sure why im making this post#kibumblabs

People treating DID like a funny little OC dress up game piss me off okay I’m sorry. I am diagnosed with and live with DID and it is not like “ohh sometimes I become Vampire Markiplier the 3rd!!!!” It’s lapses in memory, people telling you you said something you did not remember, finding things you did not remember buying in your apartment, dissociating, forgetting to take care of yourself, not being able to have a normal life or relationships… it’s not just something you can decide to have as a cool little fad because you’re actually boring as hell

People who are truly your friend will not leave you behind attempting to catch up or exclude you from things just because you're disabled. They won't make fun of you just because you have learning disabilities. They won't claim it's too difficult for them to correctly refer to you by the right pronouns just because you're queer.
If they do, they aren't a friend. Get yourself some new ones and you'll start to feel a whole lot happier

Man I feel like I’ve been fighting every drawing I do for the last few months. Like I can’t even doodle anymore. It’s all just… blocked? Restricted in some way? I can get a good end product, sure, but I’ve lost all my fluidity and the ability to just spit something out onto the page. Everything takes multiple iterations now before it’s anything serviceable, and each one of those takes pushing and pulling and prodding to get to that point.
The answer is probably that I need to do some studies, or that I need to work in a new medium for a while, or that I actually need to start using my sketchbook again, which. Yes. I feel like I’m missing whole limbs when I don’t do all that. But drawing/ painting has never been easy for me? It’s always been this laborious process. One I enjoy, one I love, but now I’m just growing increasingly frustrated that something that should take me 20 minutes, that would take a better artist 20 minutes, is taking me 2 hours

Oh being a GM is so fucking fun
#this week the gm (my wonderful gf) had jury duty and was too busy to plan a session#and i want to learn to gm. im going to be a gm at a monthly event maybe. if that guy ever starts it#i wanted to get some gm experience and have fun with my friends. so i asked my gf if i could gm a one shot#low stakes. essentially 'beach episode' mostly character stuff#it actually ended up being a holiday episode#but it was so fun. the dynamic is a lot different. and i liked playing multiple characters#i got to play my favorite girl. shes an npc and very autistic#and i got to play her!#i played my normal character as an npc. and a bunch of others#my plan worked! i wrote a plan and used it as a guideline and we did improv around it and it worked#and it seemed like everyone had fun#i had so much fun honestly. like i love being a player but being the gm was a whole different barrel of fun#something i really enjoyed was. im a writer#i write stories of like book length and they sit in my documents and no one ever really reads them#and thats okay. theyre just for me and ny love of writing#but when i wrote out the plan for the session. it was then immediately acted out by the coolest people i know#people got to experience my writing in a whole different way. i got to experience my writing in a whole different way#i had a scene in which two people discover a small hidden cubby in the back of a shed with a bird nest in it#what i expected: they easily find the cubby and maybe evacuate the nest#what happened: i point them towards a hidden cubby blocking a door from closing. they assume 'the mice have gotten big. thats weird'#they first fail checks to find and open the cubby. they find an ominous bird nest. they write an eviction notice and leave it in the cubby#they take time to reorganize the shed the cubby is in so they can close the door that was being held open#like it went places i didnt expect because ny friends do not behave as i expect characters to in my head#and then i got to think on the fly about how to work with that#i tried to nudge someone towards going out on the lake so i could put her in mild danger. she instead chose a joke npc to take care of it#and i got to recalibrate around a joke person named jimmy jones whos definitely trans and doesnt know it. whos kind of a dipshit#i got to play him. which i wasnt expecting#let me count how many people i played actually. seven. i played seven people. which is six more than normal#im about to run out of tags but it was wonderful and amazing and i had the most fun ive had in forever and omg it was fucking great

i got rickrolled today but it didn't work because i have adblocker installed, so youtube just told me i violated the terms of service. yesterday i was trying to edit a picture as a joke for my girlfriend, and google made me check a box to prove i'm human because i wasn't "searching normally".
it isn't just that capitalism is killing fun and whimsy, it is that any element of entertainment or joy is being fed upon by this mosquito body, one that will suck you dry at any vulnerability.
do you want to meet new friends in your city? download this app, visit our website, sign up for our email list. pay for this class on making a terrarium, on candlemaking, on cooking. it will be 90 dollars a session. you can go to group fitness, but only under our specific gym membership. solve the puzzle, sign up for our puzzle-of-the-month-club. what is a club if not just a paid opportunity - you are all paying for the same thing, which makes you a community.
but you're like me, i know it - you're careful, you try the library meetings and the stuff at the local school and all of that. the problem is that you kind of want really specific opportunities that used to exist. you are so grateful for libraries and the publicly-funded things: they are, however, an exception - and everything they have, they've fought tooth-and-nail to protect. you read a headline about how in many other states, libraries have virtually nothing left.
do you want to meet up with your friends afterwards? gift your friends the discord app. you can choose to go to a cafe (buy a coffee, at least), a bar (money, alcohol) or you can all stay in and catch a movie (streaming) or you can all stay in bed (rent. don't get me started) and scream (noise complaint. ticket at least).
you want to read a new book, but the book has to have 124 buzzwords from tiktok readers that are, like, weirdly horny. you can purchase this audiobook on audible! your podcast isn't on spotify, it's on its own server, pay for a different site. fuck, at least you're supporting artists you like. the art museum just raised their ticket price. once, they had a temporary exhibit that acknowledged that ~85% of their permanent art galleries were from cis white men, and that they had thousands of works by women (even famous women, like frida! georgia o'keefe!) just rotting in their basement. that exhibit lasted for 3 months and then they put everything away again.
walmart proudly supports this strip of land by the street! here are some flowers with wilting leaves. its employees have to pay out-of-pocket for their uniforms. my friend once got fined by the city because she organized a community pick-up of the riverfront, which was technically private property.
no, you cannot afford to take that dance class, neither can i. by the way - i'm a teacher. i'm absolutely not saying "educators shouldn't be paid fairly." i'm saying that when i taught classes, renting a studio went from 20 bucks an hour to 180 in the span of 6 months. no significant changes to the studio were made, except they now list the place as updated and friendly. the heat still doesn't work in the building. i have literally never seen the landlord who ignores my emails. recently they've been renting it out at night as an "unusual nightclub; a once-in-a-lifetime close-knit party." they spent some of those 180 dollars on LEDs and called it renovating. the high heels they invite in have been ruining the marley.
do you want to experience the old internet? do you want to play flash games or get back the temporary joy of club penguin? you can, you just need to pay for it. i have a weird, neurodivergent obsession with occasionally checking in to watch the downfall and NFT-ification of neopets. if i'm honest with you all - i never got into webkins, my family didn't have the money to buy me a pointless elephant. people forget that "being poor" can mean literally "if i buy you that toy, i can't afford rent."
you and i don't have time to make good food, and we don't have the budget for it. we are not gonna be able to host dinner parties, we're not made of money, kid. do you want some kind of 3rd space? a space that isn't home or work or school? you could try being online, but - what places actually exist for you? tiktok counts as social media because you see other people on it, not because they actually talk to you.
there was a local winter tradition of sledding down the hill at my school. kids would use pizza boxes and jackets and whatever worked, howling and laughing. back in september, they made a big announcement that this time, rules were changing, and everyone must pay 10 dollars to participate. when im not scared shitless, i kind of appreciate the environmental irony - it hasn't gone below 40. so much for snow & joyriding.
i saw a bulletin for a local dogwalking group and, nervous about making a good first impression, showed up early. the first guy there grimaced at me. "sorry," he said. "there's a 30-dollar buy-in fee." i thought he was joking. wait. for what? the group doesn't offer anything except friendship and people with whom to walk around the city.
he didn't know the answer. just shrugged at me. "you know," he said. "these days, everything costs money."
