Song Review: Darrell Scott - “The Devil” (Live)

“It Must be Sunday,” so Darrell Scott is conjuring “The Devil.”

Recorded live - date and location unknown - the latest addition to Scott’s new weekly series finds him playing solo-electric and singing low. He’s raw and spooky, serving Hoyt Axton’s words to a T:

The devil deals in dyin’ and he travels in a hearse/he treats you like a dog, now, he’d like to treat you worse/now he don’t have the answers, and if he did, he’d lie/the devil is a joker and he don’t want you alive

Scott sounds like a band, playing rhythm and leads while spinning Axton’s eerie yarn. But (as far as we know, anyway) it’s just him and “The Devil.”

The House in Congress just passed a 95 billion dollar military aid package to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, 316 yea, 95 nay, 21 no votes. Israeli lobby groups and the military industrial complex contribute heavily to political campaigns. Over 400 thousand dead in Ukraine, over 40 thousand dead in Palestine, thanks to weapons made here in the USA. And for what? Do you feel safer? I don't. Think of the children. Think of the landmines left all over. Biden could end our participation today.

Sutekh clinging to the TARDIS all this time is SO funny considering what the TARDIS has been through since then

And the many times the Doctor's enemies scanned the TARDIS with much more advanced sensors than UNIT has!

Darrell Scott Launches “It Must be Sunday” Series with “Six O’Clock in the Morning”

Darrell Scott fans can look forward to the last day of the week for the foreseeable future as the polymath musician/singer/songwriter has launched his “It Must be Sunday” series.

“Gathering video and audio as we travel the many miles over the years,” Scott’s team said in announcing the weekly goodies.

Entry No. 1 is a haunting version of “Six O’Clock in the Morning” captured Aug. 18, 2023, in North Carolina.

This is Scott as harrowed bluesman, singing with resignation about stolen hopes and dreams and taking victory with a sense of responsibility:

Some men have a god/that keeps them from harm/some men have a bottle/at the end of their arm/I have a child that calls me Dad/I long to give her what I never had/like waking up and feeling glad/it’s 6 o'clock in the morning

Delivered over a sparse, electric arrangement, the verses are separated by a dissonant, full-band instrumental bridge that seems to represent the turmoil leading to the unsettled peace of the final stanza. “Six O’Clock” is not a happy song; it’s an inspiration.

best friend!gojo who acts super cool and nonchalant when you’re around others, but his stomach forms knots of nervousness on the inside, when he’s just around you.

“what are you doing?” your say, your voice merely above a whisper as you feel your head being turned to face your best friend, distracting your attention from the movie being played.

gojo pauses, and you can practically hear him gulp as his fingers still, holding your chin. but his internal voice (which is actually the voice of geto) tells him to just do it, and he does. he pulls you into a kiss that is so soft and slow you practically crumble in his hold, you didn’t know what spurred his actions but you knew that they felt right.

as you finally pull away from each other your lips plump, your breath laboured, he smiles. “I’ve been wanting to do that for the longest time”

So also also while watching the Unleashed for 73 Yards, they talk about how this episode was actually filmed first all the way back in 2022. (Filming overlap with Ncuti shooting the final Sex Education season meant they had to start with a DoctorLite ep)

But that got me thinking about the TV show theory that's going around and also how everyone's been talking about the episodes feeling oddly out of order, like how Ruby and the Doctor had apparently been travelling for months by Boom in terms of the timeline but she somehow hadn't yet stepped foot on an alien planet?

RTD is taking a sledgehammer to the fourth wall if this means something but what if just how the season was filmed out of order, so too are Ruby and the Doctor's adventures? Because they've been trapped in a TV show!
