As Xmas Approaches, Darrell Scott Reminds Us: “Jesus Was a Capricorn”

With an assist from Kris Kristofferson, Darrell Scott plays musical myth-buster as the world spins toward Christmas 2024.

Scott’s Dec. 14 rendering of “Jesus Was a Capricorn” marks the latest “It Must be Sunday” archival release. The duo recording finds Scott on electric guitar and lead vocals and Bryn Davies on double bass and backgrounds reminding their Tennessee audience Jesus was a radical liberal who’d likely be crucified in the modern world as well.

’Cause everybody’s gotta have somebody to look down on/prove they can be better than at any time they please/someone doin’ somethin’ dirty, decent folks can frown on/if you can’t find nobody else, then help yourself to me, the pair sing.

It’s just the two of them, yet Scott and Davies lay down elements of jazz and bluegrass and overlay it with protest folk disguised as gospel music. Its subversive nature be damned, “Jesus Was a Capricorn” belongs in a hymnal.

The House in Congress just passed a 95 billion dollar military aid package to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, 316 yea, 95 nay, 21 no votes. Israeli lobby groups and the military industrial complex contribute heavily to political campaigns. Over 400 thousand dead in Ukraine, over 40 thousand dead in Palestine, thanks to weapons made here in the USA. And for what? Do you feel safer? I don't. Think of the children. Think of the landmines left all over. Biden could end our participation today.

Song Review: Darrell Scott - “The Devil” (Live)

“It Must be Sunday,” so Darrell Scott is conjuring “The Devil.”

Recorded live - date and location unknown - the latest addition to Scott’s new weekly series finds him playing solo-electric and singing low. He’s raw and spooky, serving Hoyt Axton’s words to a T:

The devil deals in dyin’ and he travels in a hearse/he treats you like a dog, now, he’d like to treat you worse/now he don’t have the answers, and if he did, he’d lie/the devil is a joker and he don’t want you alive

Scott sounds like a band, playing rhythm and leads while spinning Axton’s eerie yarn. But (as far as we know, anyway) it’s just him and “The Devil.”

gojo pauses, and you can practically hear him gulp as his fingers still, holding your chin. but his internal voice (which is actually the voice of geto) tells him to just do it, and he does. he pulls you into a kiss that is so soft and slow you practically crumble in his hold, you didn’t know what spurred his actions but you knew that they felt right.

as you finally pull away from each other your lips plump, your breath laboured, he smiles. “I’ve been wanting to do that for the longest time”

I'm Not Done:

So also also while watching the Unleashed for 73 Yards, they talk about how this episode was actually filmed first all the way back in 2022. (Filming overlap with Ncuti shooting the final Sex Education season meant they had to start with a DoctorLite ep)

But that got me thinking about the TV show theory that's going around and also how everyone's been talking about the episodes feeling oddly out of order, like how Ruby and the Doctor had apparently been travelling for months by Boom in terms of the timeline but she somehow hadn't yet stepped foot on an alien planet?

RTD is taking a sledgehammer to the fourth wall if this means something but what if just how the season was filmed out of order, so too are Ruby and the Doctor's adventures? Because they've been trapped in a TV show!
