People hating on a literal child because she doesn’t physically look like a character in a book who we only ever saw in concept art and fanart vs me who was kinda sad when I realized book Percy wasn’t black because the description of a young boy living in New York who’s close with his single mother parent who is constantly seen as stupid troublemaker by both peers and teachers and his moms awful boyfriend and who’s only friend is the only other Outcast (non white) classmate who’s only ally is the literature teacher who then he finds also has doubts about him felt very if not fully black then at least mixed coded.

But then I moved on and enjoyed the story for what it gave me, can some of these people say the same 🤔

#I have not yet watched the show I’ll probably wait for more episodes bc I canceled D+ like two months ago #but idk many of yall are not 12 anymore and saying Leah won’t do a good job or it won’t be as good #we only saw any of these characters in our minds eye #or concept art #im not saying you can’t be disappointed when things aren’t 100% a match bc you want to see a good adaptation of the Book #and I need to do a reread but I would think Annabeth’s whole other shit aka running away cross country at 7 always being nosy and wanting #a quest being ready for battle but learning to have fun too #is more integral to her character ESPECIALLY IN MARK OF ATHENA #the blond hair in the books is a trait from Athena so it’s not a unique hurdle other girls in the cabin wouldn’t also face #it mattered bc she was a main character #But taking the core struggle of not being taken seriously works pretty damn well for any girl but especially black girls AT ALL TIMES #and not to be funny but saying the other characters are already diverse feels like a side step #like look Hazel in her eyes and say not being taken seriously BECAUSE of your HAIR COLOR is on the same level #as not being taken seriously because you’re a black girl #and if this breaches containment #yes the show would have been fine even if a picture perfect accurate cast had been hired #but if we want to move past people being cast bc of how they look vs how they act #you can’t hold the gospel of a book series against literal children who are probably having the time of their life #or would be if grown ass adults were attacking them bc SOMEONE ELSE HITED THEM #if the show is bad it’s not bc Annabeth is black or Percy is blonde #hell in good omens both leads are older in the book they’re described as looking 25 and 30 #can you imagine good omens as it is now with book accurate casting bc I can’t

rewatched madoka magica again today bc i fucking hate myself and to absolutely no one’s surprise i went through all five stages of grief in a single evening

#let’s talk about sayaka miki for a second #genuinely the fact that her whole character is centered around tragedy almost to a shakespearean extent #she’s selfless and brave and values her justice and righteousness above all. calls herself an ally of justice #in fact i think it’s rather intriguing how her whole character is centered around “justice”#her story being a more twisted retelling of the original little mermaid #how she is initially portrayed as a very heroic and confident character even before becoming a magical girl. always shielding madoka #selling her soul to heal the boy she loved out of a selfless desire to see him well again #her being absolutely distraught abt being robbed of her humanity and betrayed by kyubey #she combats this harrowing realization by immersing herself in her duties not caring that she is slowly deteriorating in the process #becoming numb with pain and fighting recklessly and psychotically trying to drown out the pain #finally coming to the sickening conclusion that humanity doesn’t deserve her saving and she succumbs to a fate of her making #last words being “i was so stupid” which trumps her previous statement of “there’s no way i’d regret this”#ALSO? the fact that her costume and weapon are symbolic of a knight. she rly portrays this hero of justice who will protect and defend ☹️#i think abt the fact that homura said that sayaka’s wish was so selfless it was only a matter of time before she died #sayaka being the example of what happens to magical girls who go through the entire cycle and eventually become witches is so sad to me #genuinely just like. sick and twisted #very very fucked up.#characters who have their own misconstrued interpretation of “justice” or who are centered around justice in general.#you will always be dear to me.#sayaka reminds me a lot of akechi in some ways ngl #harboring an almost idealized vision of justice but it slowly rots and festers and corrupts their hearts the more immersed w it they become #actually losing their sanity when they fight bc of how much pain they’re in but refuse to acknowledge it until they break #refusing any help and wallowing in misery despite having ppl who love them and want to save them #last words are those expressing regret for being such a fool. for being ignoring #being used by yhe main villain as a stepping stone towards their true goal. they were merely a pawn #also doomed in every version of their reality. always doomed by the narrative no matter what choices they make #i have a type i fear #HAHAHAH ALSO the fact that they’re both dressed so regally compared to everyone else in their respective series #meant to portray them in a virtuous and princely light. only made more apparent by the sword being their weapon of choice #i’m gonna shut up now but they’re soo eerily similar its unnerving tbh 💀

I could play one of the most beautiful well crafted video games on the planet and it will never be as appealing to me as one that kind of sucks shit but has soooo much potential

#merlin.txt #just finished cyberpunk #i feel like they could have done sooo much more with the concepts they had #the game showed us a bit of everything in the world but i dont think they explored any one topic enough #and they pulled a ton of punches. the ending did not feel like this big 'grab your allies and fuck the corpos' thing it shouldve been #it was mostly just tying up johnnys loose end. one big loop. which i fuck with; but it wasnt rlly anticapitalist at all in that sense #i have a bunch of other thoughts on johnny but ill save it #but god. the beginning (act 1 and the first bits of act 2) where just soooo fucking good #and it rlly felt like it was going to gear up into this huge thing instead of just being one last hurrah for rogue and johnny #AUUUGHH theres just So Much Potential. goddamn #imo i think the major thing is that at some point it stopped being v's story. it was everyone elses #he has Very little agency. which is interesting but man this guy deserves better #when it comes down to it the game Is really shallow. whenever there is any sincerity in themes its very centrist #the fact is you dont rlly meet many characters in game who are Truly working to take down corps except for johnny and he doesnt rlly count #and if there Are its usually played for irony and laughs (looking at kerry) or theyre flat out kind of awful.#judys story is probably the best of the companions bc shes actively trying to help sex workers and its played very positively #i also think two of the main themes (letting go of the past; what it means to die) are Majorly helped by some incredible emotional beats #and w/o some just Really Really good scenes and good repetition of lines and motifs its very tropey.#ok i wasnt going to write a full thing. but let me be clear: i fucking loved this game. i would not be writing so much if i did not love it #the sun ending was Still soooo vindicating. v is still kicking and that's all that matters to me #(it helps that v is a Great protag like one of the Best voiced rpg protags next to hawke da2)#(which is kind of a funny comparison since i think both protags suffer from a lack of agency)#ok im done now

This month's bonus book is super long and it seems the reason for that is because the author spends like a paragraph doing world-building or unnecessarily over-explaining reactions between each line of dialogue -_-

#i'm only 3% through so far so it may improve once we've done enough of the world-building #but if not then it's only a matter of time before i dnf it because it's already grating on me #it's like. i don't care about this side character's relationship with her parents please just get on with the story #also the author's ripped off norse mythology but not in like. a good or clever way.#she's literally just changed the name of things very slightly or used the names of things for entirely different concepts #and the main character is apparently from a 'small village called nidaros'#nidaros is the old name for trondheim y'all. she's from fucking trondheim. which isn't a small village and wasn't when it was nidaros eithe #but i'm pretty sure the city itself is supposed to be entirely fictional #it's certainly not set in medieval norway bc they have cell phones and stuff #anyway we'll see how long it keeps up and how much it tries my patience #but if it doesn't improve soon it's going in the bin (metaphorically speaking given it's an ebook)#bc it's a hefty-ass book and i'm not investing near on 20 hours into something i don't enjoy
