Although I absolutely had a great time at the production of Pride and Prejudice I saw last night, staged by a local theatre group (there truly is nothing like laughing along to some of Austen's dry wit in a room full of people) some of the changes made were quite... startling??? Which was understandably because the bulk of the action had to take place in the drawing room at Longbourn. But still, the more I think about it, the more I'm tickled (if a little frustrated).
It was all going well until Darcy's 'tolerable' comment was only reported on by Mrs Bennet the next day. Not seeing him say it really made such a difference. Then, I was surprised when the first time we actually saw Elizabeth and Darcy interact was at a substitute for the party at Lucas Lodge, except it happened at Longbourn, and they used the dialogue where Darcy asks if Elizabeth wishes to seize the moment by dancing a reel, which takes place later at Netherfield.
Honestly they toned down Darcy so much, he really didn't seem that bad and it was kind of difficult to understand why Elizabeth disliked him so much. The proposal wasn't nearly mean enough either, he insulted her connections once but again, it was difficult to believe she would be so against him.
The first act ended with the proposal and I was honestly having a great time. It featured so many lines that are usually left out of adaptations which I really appreciated, like Caroline teasing Darcy about his mother-in-law and how Elizabeth's eyes will be impossible to capture by any artist. But then, the second act began and it reminded me a lot of this image:

We didn't see or hear the letter from Darcy, just Elizabeth returning to Longbourn and discussing some of its contents with Jane. Then, the narrator explained that Elizabeth went to stay with her aunt and uncle in Derbyshire and encountered Mr Darcy there, who invited her to Pemberley and they found him much improved. But we didn't see it, or hear the good account of him from Mrs Reynolds? Honestly, if I didn't know the novel, I would've been quite confused about how Darcy changed or, indeed, if he even did and perhaps why he even needed to.
Buuuuut I won't be too harsh on anything else because other than those points it was genuinely enjoyable! Mr Collins, Mrs Bennet, Caroline and Mary were particular standouts, and Elizabeth was excellent!
And the limits of the production also amused me in some ways, as they had to come up with creative ways of getting characters alone for conversations. Some highlights included:
Wickham and Elizabeth having their conversation about Darcy at Mrs Phillips's alone in another room while everyone else was playing cards because Elizabeth was?? tired??
Mr Collins dragging Lady Catherine and Darcy off (after they had accepted his invitation to dine at Hunsford Parsonage... pffft) to show them a watercolour he had purchased. Which Lady Catherine abused as ugly and told him off for not consulting her before he purchased it.
Mr Bennet complaining servants had invaded his library with brushes to clean it, so could he speak to Lizzy about Lydia going to Brighton in private.
Overall, it was definitely far more of a comedy than anything else. Which I honestly didn't mind, it worked very well with the audience. Although there was disappointingly little pride or, indeed, prejudice, it was a very fun evening out and it's a novel absolutely intended to be heard aloud!
#pride and prejudice#jane austen#cora watches#i said to my friend i enjoyed it but then spent about 25 mins while i was driving back ranting about the changes they made lmaoooo#i just CARE alright this story has taken up residence in my brain and i am powerless to defend myself against its charms#and make darcy RUDE don't shy away from it#it makes his arc more satisfying#but it was also somewhat of a skill issue with the actors i think#the mary kept forgetting her lines or stumbling over them a bit and i hope she doesn't feel bad because that was very mary coded#i just wanted a little rant about the play on my blog with people who might get it#and now i can continue with my life#also lydia was aged up to sixteen and you would've missed that wickham was a predator#my friend did and i had to explain#also no mr and mrs gardiner#no anne or colonel fitzwilliam or sir william or mr and mrs hurst#but lady catherine was amazing she kind of did enough for them skghdg

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#wen qing#wen ning#WWX's main weapon as the Yiling patriarch is considered to be 'Wen Ning' - which makes sense as far as the whole necromancer thing goes.#However...That *is* Wen Qing's beloved baby brother!#In her perspective WWX skipped town for a few days (or so) and took WN with him#only for them both to show up bloodied and in a state of disarray.#There's no way he told her he was going out to duel Jiang Cheng. For several reasons.#He doesn't want to involve her in his messes anymore than he already has.#It's less that she would try and stop him and more so that he honestly wouldn't even think to say something about it to her.#WQ and him aren't partners in this situation. He actually openly disregards her opinions several times.#Wei Wuxian's emotional distance from everyone around him is a big part of this arc.#Like all good tragedies...his biggest flaw is his hubris. Out of all the Hunting Dogs members, Tachihara rly seems to be the closest to Jouno (after Teruko ofc) But why is that the case?

I mean just LOOK at how proud Tachihara looks in this panel after receiving that praise from Jouno! It’s sooo cute I-😭 But why is Tachihara so close to Jouno of all people?
Well I HC that when Tachihara first joins the HD, his criminal background makes him understandably very distrustful/fearful of everyone else. It feels less like the HD are his coworkers and more like they’re just cops keeping an eye on him, just waiting for when he’ll inevitably slip up so they can finally lock his ass away. He just can’t get that criminal-cop mindset out of his head yet.
Jouno was the only person that could understand and relate to Tachihara considering he was also a formal criminal (tho I don’t think he was ever scared of the HD, he still felt that same distrust in his first couple years as well)
And so to make Tachihara feel more comfortable/calm (cuz he’s actually starting to care for the boy getting sick of constantly hearing Tachihara’s too fast heart beat) Jouno decides to casually bring up all the stupidly profitable crimes Tachihara could’ve committed with his ability, going into suspiciously criminal amounts of detail. Most of the heists that he brings up r stuff that he himself was planning to do in the mafia before he got arrested. Jouno talks about this to help remove the whole ‘HD-dangerous-cop’ association that Tachihara has made.
At first Tachihara is very suspicious and hesitant to answer, assuming this must be some sort twisted way to set him up. But then he realizes Jouno just genuinely enjoys talking about crimes as if they aren’t surrounded by Japan’s elite police force. And yet no one ever actually does anything to Jouno, even tho everything he says is so illegal, that he should’ve already gone to prison 20 times over just for even uttering half that stuff lol.
These conversations rly help Tachihara to stop seeing the HD as just ‘cops’ and he immediately begins to open up. Soon he and Jouno r having like hour long conversations, literally just discussing various heists in great detail.
They make Tetchou slightly uncomfortable with their blase view of big time crime so every time they start talking about this stuff, Tetchou just silently walks out of the room lol (Jouno 100% teases him for that, constantly inviting him to join their conversations, to which Tetchou always politely declines lol)
Ofc, to remind Tachihara that at the end of the day, they ARE still just only coworkers (not friends), Jouno likes to end their conversations laughing, saying ‘Of course, if you were to actually try any of this, I would not hesitate to gouge your eyes out and feed them to the dogs’ which always keeps Tachihara from being too casual.
Despite that tho, Tachihara can’t help but still see Jouno as older brother figure. A terrifying brother figure, but a brother figure nonetheless. In some ways, he actually somewhat prefers his relationship with Jouno than that with his actual brother. Don’t get me wrong: he still loves his brother but… unlike with his brother, no one pressures him to be like Jouno; if anything, they actually discourage Tachihara from becoming too much like him lol.
The HD never make him feel like he HAS to live up to anyone. Instead they actually want him to become his own person so he can add something unique to the team. They never make him feel like he’s not enough. And that just means so much to someone like Tachihara, who spent his whole life feeling so inadequate compared to perfection of the dead.
So yeah, that’s how Jouno and the Hunting Dogs became Tachihara’s found family
#bungo stray dogs#bsd#bsd manga#hunting dogs bsd#Love love LOVE Tachi and Jouno‘s brotherly relationship ❤️#Hope we get more backstory on it#forever hung up on the Hunting Dogs and their dynamics#which r so unexplored compared to like the PM and ADA#which makes sense but still.#tachihara michizou#I love this man#rly hope his whole PM vs HD arc comes to a satisfying end#srsly feel so bad for Tachi tho lol#like having divided loyalties is just the worst#jouno saigiku#tetchou suehiro#Suegiku#implied#✨ Hunting Dogs found family ✨#found family#oh no what a surprise#I am sleep deprived#yEt aGAin#would like to apologize for how long this#I promise I don’t only know how make long posts-

My biggest issue in Epic the Musical is Odysseus, actually. In this essay, I will....
#good god I hate his (lack of) character arc#if you want me to believe he is a monster then he gotta be consistently!!!! monstrous!!!#but no he is constantly allowed to be a poor pissbaby because portraying him as anything *gasp* morally dubious is bad#idk i don't know anything about the og myths but to me Epic's Odysseus bounces around between moods far too fast but he is always allowed t#reset back into what he has been from the start#none of his angst feels earned at any point because basically all the “bad choices” he's been put into have been outside of his control#except maiming the sirens and sacrificing people to scylla#which feel so out of character at that point to me because the next song he's whining to Zeus to not make him choose between him and his me#bitch if you were willing to sacrifice them two seconds ago why not now#why not have odysseus be the one to suggest sacrificing his men instead of him to show how far he is actually willing to go#but noooo his hand needs to be forced because???#at that point in the musical I feel like he should've been far more cruel so the Ithaca saga will actually feel like something#gives this man some agency to be a fucked up guy by himself. please.#it would've made the poseidon fight even more satisfying. he's capable because he has grown so cold. but no#idk maybe I'm missing the point but ugh#I saw a great comment unrelated to this that was like#“if you aren't comfortable with dark implications in your stories then don't write dark stories”#which I feel like applies here so well#epic the musical critical

cr3 is gonna end and the pc’s still feel like the same people to me :|
(crcritical content in the tags feel free to skip)
#cr spoilers#cr critical#the pacing of this campaign was shot to shit from the start and i really hope mercer learns from this and takes it into account for cr4#i actually think they need to do mini seasons like d20 does. not in the way that they’re all completely separate from one another but#the way the unsleeping city had multiple seasons or a crown of candy or fantasy high. connected arcs in a bigger story#it would give mercer more time to plan and pace things and would give both cast and crew more time to prepare things#bc this campaign was. frantic. just full speed ahead with no breathing room. it’s a marathon sprint#i still feel like the initial assault on the key was like. maybe a few months ago#IT WAS A YEAR!!!!#what do you MEAN this campaign took place over five months!!! these people don’t know each other!!!! I don’t know them!!!!!!#VM knew each other for YEARS TM9 traveled for a YEAR together#CR3 viewers have been talking about a time skip happening as though it’s a guarantee!!! TM9 didn’t end with a time skip and guess what!!#It was a good ending!!! Maybe a few loose threads but they were easily touched upon later with no issues#like idk ppl are allowed to like or even love cr3 i have no issue with that. i just think that from a storytelling perspective it’s just#so poorly paced and i think both fans and players deserve better than to be thrown into world ending stakes immediately#the initial assault on the malleus key felt like an endgame event and it was like fifty episodes in. Tm9 got to xhorhas around episode 50#characters deserve time to marinate. cr3 is a pressure cooker#don’t even get me started on braius’ inclusion. sam i’m sure your character is cool and complicated but he’s been here for like 20 eps#i dont know this man#also i feel like shorter seasons/separate arcs woven together would account more for people’s personal lives and any medical issues#like what happened with sam. ppl were hounding him asking for his return meanwhile he was being treated for CANCER like I can’t imagine#dealing with that kind of pressure. players deserve privacy however they can get it.#(also fgc’s death is to me the only narratively satisfying thing to happen in cr3 i’m not kidding#fucking perfect setup and execution. exquisitely done on mr riegel’s part#laudna has also had some great story beats along with imogen but i think matt fucked up making delilah come back i really do)#anyway all the love to the cr crew and cast if you see this ily and your stories i just think pacing needs to be taken into account#“they’re just friends sitting at a table playing dnd” i don’t think they are anymore actually#obviously they’re still friends playing dnd but like. cr3 feels so produced and i dont mean that in a good way :[ it feels so corporate#off topic i am SO FUCKING EXCITED for the switch to daggerheart! I think it’ll really breathe some new light and life into exandria!!!

THIRD WEEKEND (what day is it) ROOK PIC DUMP!!
I had a long weekend lol with not as much DATV as I would have preferred!

I am loving all the Assan parenting outings, I only expected one!! and since he is now the Only Son due to Reasons 🥲 I have grown ever fonder.

ALSO THE HARDING QUEEEEST!!! I think it hits extra hard when your Rook is an elf. I actually felt the choice where she prioritizes her connection with others and her loved ones to be more compelling than taking on the Titans’ anger so that’s what I chose! I do wanna see how both play out. But also her embroidered inquisition armor WAS SO STINKIN’ CUTE.
As a side note, Harding is Rook’s BESTIE. There are some absolutely beautiful portrayals of platonic intimacy between them that I don’t see as much from the others and I live and die for that shit. So happy BioWare didn’t skimp on the nonromantic affection. I’ve got some gifsets I’m hankering to make!

PEOPLE ARE HOOKING UP ALL AROUND ME AND I LOVE IT. And the way that flirty rook just fits in so perfectly (having nearly kissed them BOTH prior to this!!!) with their dynamic, I will be PISSED if I don’t see some OT3 fic!!!

Solas dynamics my beloved 🫶🏻
#steph plays datv#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#datv spoilers#117 hours AND IM STILL HAVING A BLAST 💥#I replay the scenes a lot so that’s where most of my time goes lol#i didn’t get any screencaps of the emmrich arc resolution BC I RECORDED IT ALL INSTEAD#but I chose to encourage him to pursue lichdom! after seeing both choices#choosing to save manfred is unexpectedly bittersweet#in that emmrich says (as much) he would regret not following that path but doesn’t regret reviving his son and he looks both so happy#and conflicted!!! and the narrative around his fear of mortality never really came up which I was hoping confronting it would be a big part#of this choice#turns out it was a larger part of the other choice when making him a lich! and it seemed much more satisfying to me for that reason#and lbh lich emmrich is so confident and happy and sexy and like rook I Am Into It#alessio de riva

I think my new pet peeve are Astarion fix it fics
#i mean where people fix the first time they sleep together#by having tav notice what's up immediately#because the fact that Astarion puts up this act to fool the player is the whole meat of his story#the twist that this isn't in fact what he wants and everything is just a show is the spice#if you remove that from the story immediately then where is the story?#where is the progression#where is the twist?!#isn't what makes his story so satisfying the fact that he opens up to you later and tells you the truth about how he feels about sex???#he feels comfortable to tell you FIRST#the whole confession deal is what makes it so sweet and touching#to me at least#also bffr would your tav really immeditaly know?#would they??#i think it's so much more interesting if they're oblivious at first#but that's just me idk#also like with the people who woobify him it just feels like people are babying him#imo he needs to come to this realization by himself#sry for ranting#it's just by doing this you're literally removing his whole ARC#do you get me at all???

Nothing bad is happening.
Nothing bad is happening.
Envy is in his house, but nothing bad is happening.
With the bag acquired from Merlin, Lark could only hope it'd do what he wanted it to; prevent Envy's influence from slowly leeching back out of every object he magicked it into.
Every bit of influence that Envy fed into Lark, Lark was venting out, "excising" it? Magically infusing it into objects to get it the fuck out of him. At first he thought this only served the purpose of cleaning himself out, but with time and repeated efforts, he could see Envy was getting just a bit weaker.
Obviously, Lark couldn't eat up all of what made Envy themself. He wasn't truly leeching directly from the source, and they could grow their power outside of Lark. But that was why he had to keep Envy happy.
If Envy is happy and occupied, they won't go looking for more. If Envy is here, he can siphon away their power bit by bit into crystals and rocks and pendants made for purpose, and put those into the bag, and then- and then something. Someday. It'll pay off. Just need to keep it together til then.
It was a miracle Envy hadn't figured out what was happening. They knew they were a bit weakened, but they didn't seem to realize it wasn't just a leftover problem from Devang. Maybe the weakness made it hard for Envy to think.
Maybe they were just too distracted.
Envy has decided they like Lark as more than just a face to wear, which is how this opportunity came about. Envy has decided they like him in several different positions, in fact! It's funny, they started out liking him for his sin making him easy to manipulate, and for his proximity to other people Envy was fixated on, but now it seemed they liked him in all kinds of ways.
And they really couldn't seem to stop fucking touching him.
That's okay.
Right now, we're the version of Lark who likes this.
Just play along, let it happen, be the version of Lark that Envy wants until you have a moment to get away. Focus all that energy into an object. Put that object in the bag.
Makes it easier to play that role when Envy knows just what buttons to press, and how to trigger his heat. They fucking built him, of course they know how to play him like a fucking fiddle, when they can cheat through biological tampering.
But it's all okay. None of this is real. Play along, siphon off, tie the bag, hide it away. Swallow the guilt that came with playing along, that felt like cheating on Dustine. It's temporary. Not real. Not wanted.
Lark's in control. This is what needs to happen. He's not sure yet how he'll end it, but he will, balancing Lark Who Likes This and his life outside, spending time with friends and with Dustine, getting his scraps of normalcy despite his honesty stifled under Envy's watchful eye. What sometimes felt like drowning in plain sight.
Just keep going. It'll all be worth it.
When it's over, they'll never fucking touch him again.
#ic#//implied/referenced dubcon/noncon#//how this will end is still up in the air#//definitely open to anyone wanting to help make his situation better (or worse? lmao)#//still figuring out the most satisfying way to end this arc for ENVY tho cuz this is more their arc than Lark's#//makes the subtext text in case anyone is not picking up on what's happening LOL

Oh my god HOW DID YOU LIKE SVSSS!!!!!
i liked it more than i thought i would but overall less than i might have given the potential of the story, i think in general i really enjoyed the characters (mxtx never goes wrong with characters, she creates them in a way that makes me feel unhinged) and the world building but the pay off to the set up—which i really liked!—felt a bit........ i mean, just alright.
the dynamics too are pure mxtx, personally the bin/gqiu dynamic specifically really was the least interesting part of the whole story. to me!! but individually i loved both characters. my interest was just elsewhere because """elsewhere""" felt way more fascinating idk how to explain it
was very, very happy about the extra with airplane and the yue qingyuan / shen jiu one because that's exactly what i wanted more of in the story itself as well as just more shen yuan/qingqiu interacting with cang qiong mountain
maybe it's my orv brain but like i told jana a while back i think i would have enjoyed svsss way more if it was more about shen yuan (loner; hater; etc) suddenly finding himself among all of these people (disciples looking up to him; sect siblings relying on him one way or another; common folk admiring him; etc etc) and starting to.... live? again?
Shen Qingqiu hadn't noticed that, unconsciously, he no longer considered the disciples around him (...) to be mob characters the novel had described in a scant number of words.
^from volume one, he starts seeing them almost immediately because he's not actually that separate and he genuinely cares. all the time. about everything. even before that we get:
This was only a book, and all the people were constructs, imaginary characters. Logically, Shen Qingqiu was very clear on this fact...but when a character was actually being taunted and bullied right before his eyes, it was just flat-out unrealistic to expect him to be completely unmoved.
like why are you lying, shen yuan (<- svsss tagline if there ever was one)
just the idea of this really lonely detached guy finding a community, i know it's not the story mxtx was trying to tell but again, with the set up i really wanted to see it go in that direction.
there's one line from vol two where liu qingge goes "you fear becoming a burden to cang qiong mountain (...) but cang qiong mountain fears not your burden"
and basically what i'm saying is that i wish the story had been about THAT
(and also ning yingying's lines in that same chapter about shizun always taking on everything himself and why is it always you like that whole moment with the cang qiong mountain almost begging him to see that they care. idek what i'm saying but you know)
(also foaming at the mouth that we only got tiny tiny glimpses of shen yuan's life from before, those handful of times he mentioned his siblings i wanted to take a bite out of my kindle. tell me more!! dear fucking lord tell me more!! keep talking! elaborate!! he really felt very "kim dokja and his fourth wall" at times, sorry once more about the orv brain)
tldr: i guess i wanted a story about shen yuan/qingqiu but mxtx created svsss to be a story about bin/gqiu. and i just have to be okay with that.
#does this make any sense? no. am i still hitting ''post''? yes. sorry kay#fra.txt#fra.xml#pathos-logical#overall i quite enjoyed obsessive lu.o bin.ghe. so intense and possessive about the one person who showed him a little kindness#(so what if he also showed him a lot of pain too here and there?)#but like i said the bin.gqiu dynamic just didn't pull me in. of course to each their own#(''one person'' but poor yingying was trying to help him since day one.)#but also..... to me it felt like his arc was the least satisfying. he just.... is. whereas most everyone else seems to evolve more tangibly#right now i can't help but think of tianlang-jun. ''i can't bring myself to hate humans''#not to mention all the women from his harem becoming characters in their own right#i wish i could explain myself better but i don't have the words. sorry!#l.uo bin.ghe you ARE interesting i just feel like your story could have been more#as an apology here's my favorite line of yours: ''I don't want you to repay me. I just couldn't get over my anger''#see?? i pay attention to you too baby boy#i should re-read all of ^^^ that but i won't </3#edit: one thing i forgot to mention is that i did like the small snippet we got of bin/g-ge reacting to shen yu.an/qin.gqiu#like now that's something that immediately caught my eye it already made for such a more fascinating dynamic.#also i've seen a few things about shen yua.n (not trasmigrated) getting to meet bin.ghe/bin.g-ge and again that i would take a peak at#fully black lotus bin/g-ge coming face to face with shen ''i'm a hater but also can't help but be kind all the time'' yu.an truly pickles#my tickle. i'm sat. i'm listening. i'm compelled.

No but actually though like, as depressed as I am think about what he said.
There’s *no version* of ofmd without izzy hands
So there’s the current version that may potentially end at s2 and this would be technically true
But IF there’s a version where it gets renewed for s3, it would have to be a version with izzy because there’s NO VERSION without him
Right?????? RIGHT???????????
#and like yes izzy getting revived in s3 would make his death feel even more cheap#but honestly I’ll take clunky writing + alive izzy over him being dead man#no matter what anyone says I don’t think he should have died#literally Jenkins said Stede Ed and Izzy’s arcs would all end up gratifying#Izzy’s arc right now is the exact opposite?#unless they thought we’d be satisfied by his death idk#ofmd#izzy hands

i miss akechi goro so much. maybe even enough to finally finish that ladue chapter 3
#speculation nation#ladue shit#listen hes such an asshole and i NEEEEEEED to channel his voice for a bit again#if this urge persists to tomorrow i'll crack open the fic again. for a little reread.#this will satisfy only approximately 53 people (the total subscribers to that fic)#which ok that's actually a good few people when i think about them as actual people#but it's the least amount of subscriptions i have out of most of my multichapters#EVEN STILL. it's a matter of pride and self-satisfaction.#and god fucking damn i have 18k for chapter 3 already written. i literally just need to close the damn scene up#it's been over a YEAR NOWWWWWWWWWW like holy fucking shit. i need this OUT ALREADYYYYYYYYYYY#ladue chapter 3 i will free you into the abyss. i cannot promise more than chapter 3 but i can promise a chapter 3 at least.#i had a whole plan for the fic but idk if i'll ever be able to write it#considering it's taken like. ... years. between chapters.#it took me 2 years to post chapter 2 and it's been a year now since then. ugh.#see the thing is chapter 3 closes the initial arc of them starting to date. and then there's more stuff.#maybe i'll keep it open just in case the urge strikes me to continue it eventually.#and if it never does. i might make a 4th chapter that outlines the eventual plans i had for the fic. so that people know at least.#ive seen that a Few times for discontinued fics.#....but the thing is i dont want to mark any of my fics discontinued!!!! theyre all my darlings!!! i want to go back to them all eventually#i'll just have to see. if a chapter 4 ends up taking several more years. well. maybe it'll be time to call it there. who fucking knows lol#i'll try to get chapter 3 finished sometime soon though. i really want to have it out already.

my biggest hot take is that the fandom does a lot of heavy lifting, as fandom wont to do, when it comes to many of the pairings and dynamics in the vc series. fandom perception of a thing isnt the thing in actuality yknow
#yaz has thoughts#this is a fandom thats been around for 40 plus years and some views are entrenched deeply#and fair enough its perfectly valid way of engaging with a source material but you dip your toe into these waters and come out thinking#you've read an entirely different story sometimes#partly because anne was impossible as a writer retcons and dropped threads galore something i despise on principle alone#and the fans had to do the actual scaffolding to make sense of her drivel in between the hiatuses#this is all coming from my disappointment during the reread#genuinely forgot anything that happened past iwtv and some of tvl and was constantly bombarded by how tragically epic nickistat#was and idk their demise didnt live up to the hype#i found nicki's individual arc far more enganging removed from lestat#i know book lovers insist on lestat's capacity to love - anne does too with varying results - but he is fickle in love#the longing to horror to disgust post nicki's turning is a prime example of this#and it doesnt help matters when she kept trying and failing to replace louis as his companion during her anybody but louis era#anyway was thinking of nickistat and why i didnt find any catharsis/was unmoved by their relationship failing#the relationship wasnt what was interesting about them - its their respective separate arcs that was satisfying to me personally#maybe it would have resonated with me more if nicki died while they're in a relationship and lestat was trying to get back to him#or if lestat even considered revenge instead it was like 'so tragic im gonna slip into a coma'#i still believe that lestat's most consistent and well - maintained if not developed relationships that actually have some weight to it#are with louis gabrielle and marius and claudia (claudia is never far from his mind and the loss is something he carries around)#cant believe im raving like a lunatic in the tags but im waiting on this stupid fever to break so i can sleep lmaooo

Superman: Secret Origin

#I adored this take on Metropolis#not the shining perfect city but one taken over by capitalistic greed that has seeped down to the very core of daily life#the themes of class consciousness anti-militarism and journalistic integrity all shined through#as well as the more human character driven moments#I love that Clark gets to grow up as a normal boy but is suddenly unfamiliar in his own body and isolated from his peers#he has an actual personality! very rare for Superman comics as I’m learning especially for ones that came out before the last 10 years#he’s empathetic and insightful offering friendship and compassion to Lex Jimmy and Lois#he cares about his job as a reporter! that’s so important to who CLARK is. Superman can save the day but mild mannered reporter Clark Kent#can influence actual structural change#it’s all about the balance#his relationship with Lois feels so real and believable#I totally buy Lois as the dogged and skeptic reporter who learns to trust Superman#and it’s only 6 issues! it’s crazy that they managed to fit all of that and make all the story arcs satisfying#and the final message is that Superman isn’t the great savior of the city#each person can make a positive change through their everyday choices#you are the tools through which the universe cares#soooooo good and something that a lot of the more combat power scaling obsessed stories seem to forget#at the end of the day it’s all about hope

fma 03 i missed you so bad babygirl
#doing a rewatch bc the roommates never seen it before she’s only seen brotherhood#and aughhhhhhh i love fma 03 i don’t care what anyone says#i think the slower pace is soooo much better and makes the payoff of arcs so much more meaningful and satisfying#and this is more a matter of personal taste but i really love and prefer the darker more serious tone 03 has#like just watched the barry the chopper ep and like. god#the way they explicitly show that ed is a child and him having a painfully realistic reaction to nearly being killed#like they reallyyyy fucking show how his mind went completely blank and he was just in flight mode. just running and tripping over things#and completely unable to say anything or fight back or do anything. fuckkkkk me that eps so good#the way they full on lean into survival horror territory. like it’s a stressful scene to watch straight up#anyway. this is very nostalgic for me#fma#mine

WARNING: DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS EXPLAINING REGENERATION SHENANIGANS
-------------------
okay so I was kind of not on board with the concept of bi-regeneration, mainly because of how it seemed like all of the Sad and the Trauma that the Doctor had undergone got kind of handwaved away? i'm all for ncuti's Doctor being sort of a fresh start/jumping on point for new viewers, but i didn't get how that could work if like, literally 40 minutes ago he was David Tennant being a sad wet puppy dog of a man
however, after rewatching it, i've realized what i think happened there, and it goes all the way back to something introduced with the 4th doctor's regeneration that was never explained: the Watcher
^this spooky guy
so, for those that don't know (or haven't seen every episode of a show that is over half a century old), the Fourth Doctor regenerates at the end of a story called Logopolis (he falls off a satellite dish, but that's not important right now). all throughout the episode, this weird figure, The Watcher, stands off in the distance, and even intervenes slightly by saving the Fourth Doctor's companion. there's not much given in the way of an explanation until the Fourth Doctor regenerates, saying "it's the end. but the moment has been prepared for..."
the watcher walks up, and gets absorbed in a super rad 1980's digital effect (never change doctor who), while his companion just gives us the not-super-helpful-for-lore statement "He was the Doctor all the time!"
then, in a crossfade, the Doctor goes from Four to weird-powder-man to Five
canonically, the Watcher is explained as a future version of the doctor that comes about in sort of a weird overlapping thing with the doctor's timeline, it's very wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.
-------------------------
SO what does this have to do with biregeneration and satisfying character arcs/moving on from trauma?
Well, remember, Fifteen said this, about Time Lords doing rehab out of order:
so, here's the thing: Fifteen is the Doctor AFTER Fourteen (duh, I know?) But to be clear...Fourteen lives out an entire lifetime with Donna and family, gets to a ripe old age, and then, when his lifetime of healing is over, he gets yeeted back through his own timestream just to zoot himself out of David Tennant's chest.
Remember, his first words to Fourteen (after popping out of his chest) are "So good to see you! So good!", not the RTD classic "what?". He greets himself like he's almost expecting this, he then says "does anyone want to tell me what the hell is going on here?" which only makes sense if he's coming from a different point in his own timestream (remember, when two doctors interact, memory gets really weird, 10 and the War Doctor don't remember the events of Day of the Doctor until they live through them as 11).
SO TO BE CLEAR: Ncuti Gatwa is playing the Doctor AFTER he has spent years healing from his traumas. His Doctor is fine because Fourteen takes the time to rest and work on himself.
tl;dr: I didn't like biregeneration at first because I thought it looked like this:
In actuality, it looks more like this:
