You think robotnik has a soft spot for all animals in general? Like he said that he hates all humans and wants them to die, but never said anything bout creatures other than humans. You think when he was an orphan, he hung out with animals because he was lonely? So much so that he's now a sorta animal whisperer? Would he get really pissed off at humans and emotional because he saw a post on social media saying that there are under 10,000 red pandas left because of habitat loss?

A thought that just popped up when looking at animal videos

I think so, yeah!

I like the idea that when Robotnik was a kid, he befriended a stray once and named him Gizmo. Pets weren’t allowed at the orphanage and he was never with any foster family long enough to have a pet of his own, so he more or less claimed Gizmo as his buddy. He tried making friends, originally, but no one cared to stick around him long, and they all thought his intelligence and bluntness were him being smug and arrogant.

That really wasn’t the case though, not when he was still a kid, he was just a very gifted autistic kid with a passion for robots, which stemmed into building and creating technology. He got in trouble a lot for taking things apart and rebuilding stuff in the orphanage and foster homes, but he’d just wanted to show off things he was proud of and be told he did a good job! Never happened though. Eventually kids got meaner and would take things that he thought were his and in trying to defend the items he was attached to, would get scolded by adults and still have them taken from him. So eventually he began keeping more to himself unless directly approached, though even that rarely went in his favour.

Gizmo was the only real connection he’d felt in a long time, so whenever he was able, he would hang around outside with him, feed him scraps, and give him all the best belly rubs he could! As he got older though, Robotnik would see his only friend less and less and eventually had to attend school too far to keep him nearby.

His love for animals in general remained into his adult years, but much more… locked away tight in the private vault of his feelings.

Having grown jaded and bitter towards the world and humans as he aged due the neglect and cruelty he’d so often faced, Robotnik threw away any joyful piece of himself, or he liked to think. He’d actually just tucked them so deep within his being that he believed they were gone, but they were there, still burning with passion, with the hopeful, excited child from his past. It’s where all his vulnerability was stored, and very little did anything slip past his mental firewall.

Until Stone was in the picture, that is. Things slipped through the cracks far more often when Stone was there, and Robotnik felt like he was flailing in the dark trying to keep water in a broken bowl, more or less. He was passionate about issues one might not expect of such a seemingly cold hearted man, things like endangered animals and species, world health, anything that wasn’t directly human. It wasn’t that he inherently thought humans deserved to die, but up until that point he’d never met anyone who was deserving of the planet they lived on, of the things they all took for granted. They were deceitful, selfish, and liars. They could all burn for all he cared. The world had turned a blind eye to him, so he would do the same to it.

Except for… Stone. Of course. Stone was the only person in his eyes worth anything, the only one he could trust, who wouldn’t lie, who wouldn’t neglect, who wouldn’t scold and belittle for things that he couldn’t control. Even if the man caused him distress and frustration in ways he never expected, ways that made him have to face feelings he’d thought he’d tossed aside.

Stone brought up the idea of a cat in the lab, of course, under careful regulation so it didn’t interfere with any of the doctor’s work. He’d found a stray he’d been taking care of on his ways too and from work, and at first, Robotnik refused, absolutely forbid such a nonsensical thing. But truth be told he missed Gizmo. It aches, recalling how they shouted and told him no, how he’d never gotten to say goodbye to the stray he related so much to.

Eventually he gave in. He always did with Stone, as much as it went against his own virtues. The smile on the mans face, he decided though, was worth every bit of dilemma. Robotnik was finding that there was a lot of things he deemed ‘worth it’, if it meant he could see Stone’s smile. All he could really bring himself to do is roll his eyes at how soft he felt he was getting around the man. And the cat.

Few months into their relationship, stone and robotnik waking up together.

Ivo never really cared for warmth in his bed, until he met stone.

Suddenly, everything in his life had more meaning, more colour. Everything in his life, he had stone there right beside him. Like he’s been there all his life.

Where was he all his life?

In any case, they were together now. Ivo supposed that was all that mattered. Tangled up in his bed, stone huffing breaths against his neck. That was another thing, he noted.

He hates physical affection. Any and all kind. It wasn’t like his agent was spared of that treatment. The slightest touch or brush against his coat had him screaming his face red. He stopped for a while after that. Then…. Then what? What has happened? One day robotnik had seen stone placing a hand on his arm, and it didn’t itch. It didn’t feel foreign, invasive. So he had allowed it. Just this once, he thought. Elevated heart rate. Just this once. Pupils dialating. Just this once. Sweating. Just this once.

Once came one too many times, and Ivo did not mind it. Not at all. And that scared him. He started to crave for his touch more and more, and almost like stone had read his mind, he had gifted it to him.

A squeeze on the neck, a brush of shoulders, a gentle hold of his elbow. It melted Ivo’s mind, the buzzing in his veins never stopping. In fact, it became more, and more. He couldn’t stop thinking about it, couldn’t stop, could never stop. His head was always thinking, and stone slowed it down, turned it to slush. He made him second guess every word, stumble over his feet, make his heart skip a beat.

Stone was turning him human.

Ivo wouldn’t like to dwell on the little issues like when they first fell into bed together, kissed, exchanging words that could never have been said in the daylight. But it felt good. It felt right. It felt so unbearably human, exposing himself like this. But despite how utterly human he felt, Stone still worshipped him like he was the stars in the sky. And who is the doctor to stop him?

“Ivo..” Ivo, Ivo, Ivo. Stone likes to pray. He does not believe in a god.

“Stone.” Ivo’s more than happy to fill that role.

His agent tightens his arm around his waist, taking a deep breath from his neck.

“Mornin’.”

Ivo combs his fingers through his hair, settling his hand at the base of his skull, tugging on the strands lightly.

Stone hums, tilting his head up, eyes squinting still.

“Doctor?”

“Call me Ivo.” He whispers, patting the back of his head. “Just Ivo when we’re like this.” Stone complies, leaning into his touch and looking like a cat who got the cream.

“Okay, Ivo.” He grins. The doctor’s stone cold heart skips a beat, and his ears tingle. He’s gonna wear that out fast, he thinks with a smirk and a huff.

They lean in and crash together, orbits fitting perfectly, warmth shared and legs tangled under the futon. Maybe he craved more things than he thought he would. He’s okay to let Stone teach him in that department.

Another late night SONIC 4 Concept

(Because I absolutely can't MISS with these) I've seen a lot of people say that for Sonic 4 metal might have his own robotic army, judging from what we saw in the post credit scene, and I COMPLETELY effing agree with this especially if it turns out Metal NEO is the one pulling the strings/ in control, HOWEVER, I feel like we can go beyond on that concept and spice it up a bit.

(Shout out @Jay_aRtz15 for the amazing art) Now this may sound crazy but what if instead of just having metal Sonic make an entire robot army completely of himself, why not have him ALSO make entire metal copies of Sonic's friends I.E. Metal knuckles, metal tails, metal amy, and even probably metal Shadow. Because how else would metal Sonic be able to take on all of Sonic's friends by himself, I mean I guess he could probably do it as metal NEO or even in his kaiju form, but what if instead of just making multiple copies of himself, he could just make copies of Sonic's friends instead and have them try to battle each other, a little humanity vs machines type concept if you will

heck, you could even probably incorporate characters like OMEGA into the story by having him be metal Sonic's creation as a counter measure against Sonic or maybe even Shadow, and probably have him like be the right hand man to metal Sonic, the agent stone to his robotnik you could say, and then by the end of the movie, he starts to have a change of heart and joins up with Team Sonic to take metal down, and then probably sticks with Shadow setting up Team Dark, (I mean if we can't redeem one robot, we can always redeem another) hell you could even probably introduce characters like the Hard boiled heavies, the badknicks, or even Orbot and cubot as subordinates for metal Sonic as well, if things decide to play out like this.

In the end I feel like Sonic 4 should be an Evil robot apocalypse Terminator time travel type story, ESPECIALLY if the MAIN Villain, is a Robot himself, after all in Sonic Heroes, metal Sonic's whole goal is to turn the entire world into robots because he believes humanity is obsolete (kinda like Skynet) and HATES being compared to Sonic's fake, and in world that is completely overrun by machines, "Who exactly is Metal Sonic then?" But let me know what do you guys think, do ya agree with this concept or should Paramount do things differently, and what exactly do you think they should do then?

Lee- Not terrible, but would be such a cop out. come on, that's the actor's name.

Samir- it's got a nice ring to it. I like it but not as much as Jim or Pierre

Imad- meh, doesn't sound good to me.

If this is the case there should a bit where Sonic is like "what's your first name?" and then Stone says it and something loud happens so we don't hear it.

so, starting off with some context: it’s 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 time. be warned pt 2. bc that’s actually what my friend and i were discussing LMAOOO. the whole conversation was kickstarted by them sending me a drawing of stone flushed due to a fever in which everyone in the replies were saying “damn he’s in heat”, right? but the artist was like “GUYS HES NOT IN HEAT HES SICK”

and my response was “hes sick because he isn’t being knotted actually. Soon that will be fixed.”

but then i was like… Wait. bc to me, they’re both alphas … bc….

yes, stone follows robotniks every command, and he is ECSTATIC doing it! we all agree on this!!!

but but BUT…. if you’ve seen my other posts, you’ll know that i am an AVID supporter of the idea that stone was a top of the line, best of the best field agent before working for robotnik. i believe he has killed before robotnik, but SINCE working for robotnik?

he never took any sort of pleasure when he had to kill before. it was just a necessary evil. but now that he’s got something to protect? someone of his own?? he has killed for robotnik without a second thought and would kill for him again in a heartbeat. and he has lowkey enjoyed it, knowing he’s the one saving the doctor

he’s like those pictures of wolves with watermelons on their heads and etc . of tigers laying in cardboard boxes

he follows robotniks orders and follows them well because he WANTS to fiercely protect robotnik, fulfill all of his needs, and ensure his happiness at all costs, no matter if it’s shooting someone point blank or dealing with robotniks hand dragging him around by the inside of his mouth

and finally, after some plot- perhaps around the time robotnik is recovering in the crab, where stones caretaking instincts are going haywire?- stone gets a taste of that knot !!!!

and then another. and then another. and then about a decades worth more. and what do you know? he and robotnik spedrun bitching at 100%, emotionally and physically

also, i just want you to know that during this revelation, my friend was researching if you can get sick from being too horny irl. (sex improves immune system functions is the answer)

and then this friend, word for word, spat out this wonderful idea: “bitch Stone with a 24/7 piston fuck machine w/ orgasm denial/chastity cage WHAT WHO SAID THAT”

And honestly?? i’d like to add on…….

stone found the blueprints for it when he was trying to save as much as possible from robotniks lab, between the first and second movies. maybe it was even somewhere hidden among the manifesto, deep in some code stone would’ve normally missed. (if he built it at home to use whenever he was especially missing the doctor, that’s between him, the beginning of the bitching, and god)

This is the first fan fic I've written since the 90s, but Stobotnik has me full tilt. Waiting for Sonic 3 I rewatched Sonic 2 and Wade's ease at rolling up to the Mean Bean and that whole scene put this idea into my head... what if Stone wasn't just waiting on the Doctor?

The first month without the doctor had been spent sitting alone in his trailer, surrounded by bandits, searching the continent for any trace of Ivo Robotnik. Then the world. Then the milky way.

Nothing.

Stone found nothing.

The second month had been spent setting up a secret base in his last known location.

Green Hills, Montana.

It was easy enough for someone as skilled in deception as Agent Stone. Forge some signatures, flash some documents and no one questioned how quickly he had the Mean Bean coffee shop ready for "business". Stone was always a diligent worker and his focus was renowned. It was why he fit so well with Robotnik, to the dismay of many.

However, there was one thing Stone had not prepared for, and as he began closing up shop his problem came rolling into view.

"Hey! Catch you at a bad time?" Wade Whipple walked in. The wannabe Sheriff of this backwater cesspool had begun to get on Stone's last nerve. If he had two brain cells to rub together Stone would think Wade was stalking him.

"Actually, yes." Stone said rolling his eyes as he turned to grab a broom. "I'm closing." He grabbed a small dustpan and waved it with the most sarcastic smile he could muster. Ivo would be proud. At least Stone hoped he would be.

"Oh. Right. Yeah, cause you don't live here." Wade said with a self deprecating smile. Silence fell and Stone was certain the deputy had gotten the point.. until he spoke again. "You're coffee is just so good. Like, it flows in your veins." Wade laughed at his own joke then made it worse when he kept talking. "Not like I think you're made if coffee, but you're just wow with it. Like, did you go to school to make it? Some kinda secret coffee school? It's very... wow." He finished quietly, suddenly aware of former Agent Stone staring at him with an empty face.

"No. I practice." Stone dumped the dustpan into the trashcan and set it down in it's proper place beside the broom holder. Doctor Robotnik would appreciate the order and cleanliness. "What can I do for you, Deputy Whipple?" Stone asked refusing to contain his impatience. Formal titles were good at that with most people, but once again these simple social cues were lost on Wade.

"Well, I've seen you around lately and I wondered if.. you want a tour? Like, being new in town? I can show you the ropes around here. I'm kinda important." Wade gave a small laugh, and Stone had to admit that under different circumstances he might find it charming, but he and his heart belonged to Robotnik.

Suddenly an idea popped into his head and he slowly smiled his most charming smile at the bumbling man before him. "Why, Deputy, I'd love to see your quaint little town. I bet there are so many places to see." Stone began advancing on Wade slowly. "Secrets to learn. I bet you know everything about this..." Stone stopped in front of him "...adorable..." he put a hand on Wade's chest "...little..." they locked eyes "...town."

Wade's heart skipped a beat and he felt his stomach begin to twist into knots. He let out a loud nervous laugh, scaring himself. "Pssh, yeah. I... I..." Looking into the baristas eyes he suddenly lost all words and just began nodding.

Stone gave a large and undeniably fake smile as he took Wade's arm in his. "Good. Good. Why don't you meet me here tomorrow night at 8pm. You can show me all your secrets." As Stone led Wade to the door, Wade began laughing nervously.

"Yeah, I can. Do that, yes. We will. Tomorrow?" He repeated, his mouth feeling dry.

"Tomorrow. Goodnight..." Stone leaned forward and Wade followed his example, closing his eyes and puckering his mouth for a kiss in a rather unseemly manner. "Wade." Stone said seductively, closing the door in Wade's still puckered face. The lock clicked and the blinds fell, breaking Stone's spell on the other man.

"Goodnight..." Wade walked over to his new scooter and began rolling away.

Inside, Agent Stone began pulling up the files on the blue menace and his would-be family. Maybe, this stupid little one horse town could be useful after all...

A Review of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)”

It is crazy to think about how this movie franchise originally started on such bad footing with that ugly Sonic design. However, they listened to fans and altered the design to a more game-accurate one. Now here we are with 2 surprisingly good Sonic movies. The 3rd one finally introduces the iconic Shadow the Hedgehog! My favourite character! Is this another great Sonic movie entry or is another in the 3rd movie curse?

Firstly, Shadow is handled wonderfully in this film. The film does a great job of illustrating Shadow's strength and making us feel like Sonic has met his match. Keanu is just doing a Keanu voice but it does work very well for Shadow. Thankfully, they keep the core of his character and backstory in the film. He is menacing but also sympathetic which I find the most important aspect of Shadow which the director also understood. Our main trio is great as they have always been. We do finally get more of them working as a team and I like that the story shows how each of the team has different strengths and weaknesses. They all have incredibly fun chemistry!

Jim Carrey also returns but this time, as two different characters. He returns as Dr Ivo Robotnik but also plays the grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. It seems like the director gave Jim Carrey more freedom to go nuts because Jim Carrey goes full Jim in this film. He steals every scene with his wacky performance! There is an amazing makeup design that makes Gerald look very different from Ivo. However, Jim helps differentiate the two by giving Gerald a distinctively different voice as well. The movie does a great job of making it feel like both characters are there at the same time. Funny enough, both characters have great chemistry which means that Jim has great chemistry with himself!

The movie has some fun action set pieces as well that really show the speed! The first 30 minutes contains many excellent ones including a Team Sonic vs Shadow fight and an awesome chase sequence too. The final act set piece feels like it was pulled right out of Sonic Adventure 2. My one gripe with previous Sonic movie entries was the lack of actual music from the games. This entry remedies this a bit by including a fair amount of notable songs such as "Live and Learn". There are a lot of jokes just like previous ones but this one thankfully is less pop-culture reference galore. There are a fair amount of jokes that actually gave me a chuckle. I think the one standout is how much heart there is in the story. There is the obvious one with Shadow but there is a surprisingly great arc with Dr Ivo Robotnik and his subordinate Agent Stone that might tug on some people's heartstrings.

There is less human character involvement in this entry, which is for the best. However, that doesn't mean the human characters aren't involved as G.U.N is a big part of this story. Krysten Ritter joins the cast as a high-ranking officer in G.U.N but her character is bland and under-baked. Her character leaves the story in a weird anti-climatic way. Gerald Robotnik is also a very one-dimensional villain which is a shame as there was a lot to him in the games. The movie doesn't explore the extent of his grief or even show enough scenes of him with Maria to make him interesting. The pacing also drops a bit in the second act when it becomes exposition heavy and the plot slows down to reintroduce Dr Robotnik and introduce his grandfather.

Overall, it is crazy to see the Sonic movies get better with each entry. The movie is respectful of the source material and provides enough fan service to please fans while telling a solid story. There is an exciting mid-credit scene that is making me look forward to the inevitable 4th entry. I hope it continues to be this good!

Sonic Movie 3 Predictions and Angst

The hyper fixation is slowly creeping in and I must let it out, so here’s a compilation of scenes I can imagine happening in Sonic 3. Let’s see how many I’ll get right!

1. Shadow has parallels with all 3 of the boys, not just Sonic

We all know already Shadow and Sonic have similar backstories with how Sonic experienced the loss of Long Claw, the same way Shadow lost Maria. But while Sonic chooses to move on, Shadow wants revenge. Sonic can relate to Shadow in a way, and that very obviously will be brought up in the movie.

But what can also be brought up is how Knuckles also experienced grief and dealt with it by seeking revenge for YEARS of his life, he more than anyone can understand Shadow.

And finally Tails, which is a bit of a stretch from my part, but considering Shadow is so different from everyone else, not only for his appearance but also his powers, he might feel as if he doesn’t belong anywhere else, Tails can relate to that, since he too felt like he was two different because of his two tails.

I can see they all trying to reach out to Shadow in their own ways, obviously at first it doesn’t work but with each interaction they start to slowly break more and more of his defenses and he starts to reflect on their words, maybe their words remind him of Maria and by the end he’ll realize he’s not doing what she’d want.

2. Stone is the one who frees Shadow and the one who tells the team Robotnik is alive

Double prediction I guess, but pretty much what I’m saying is that Stone is the catalyst for this whole movie, and he did all that for one simple reason… Robotnik was bored.

We’ve seen in the after credits scene of Sonic 2 that he disguised himself as a G.U.N agent and he overheard about Project Shadow, I think, after that he’d do a little research, and figure out the password to release Shadow from the pod is M A R I A. Hence why the commander says in the trailer there has been a security breach. Now don’t ask me how Stone got away with opening the pod without the government arresting him, boy is sneaky I guess.

As for how the team figured out Robotnik is alive, my guess is that Stone sent them a message through one of Robotnik’s robots, inviting them to get assistance from the doctor.

Did you catch that? He’s offering to help them solve a problem HE caused, my man is pulling the strings.

And for what? To get Robotnik back into action of course, out of his depression, and maybe find out more about his past in the process, considering Shadow was created by his grandfather.

So in team Sonic’s lowest moment, they agree to get help, and ya know what, I’m 90% certain Robotnik will betray they after their truce, because of course he will, and Stone will love it because that’s the doctor he knows and loves.

3. Maddie will help heal Knuckles

Maddie is a vet, as we’ve seen in the first movie when she helps Sonic after he’s passed out. Now that hasn’t been brought up in a while and I think it would be a huge missed opportunity if she doesn’t help out with Knuckles broken arm or whatever Shadow did with his arm in the trailer.

Additionally, I feel like after that first encounter Tom and Maddie would be worried sick and conflicted if they should let the boys go on this mission or not, to which Tom decides he’s coming too, hence why we see a shot of him wearing a G.U.N uniform, albeit, stolen because he’s just in disguise.

Bonus round of small predictions:

- Knuckles calls Tails by his name and not just “Fox”

- Sonic finds tapes that Shadow and Maria recorded together

- More Tails screen time (please I beg)

- Amy and/or Metal Sonic in the post credit scene

Movie Sonadow: [2] Lone Field

Shadow's POV

I did the right thing.

I did what she would've wanted.

But I didn't think I'd survive. When I pushed the cannon away, knowing it would explode- I thought of Maria, sure I would die. But here I am. On this lonely field of flowers. Secluded place.

I chose to stay hidden after returning to Earth. I needed some peace- to reflect, I suppose.

The Professor never truly cared for me during the plan. Maybe, after everything, he never truly cared about Maria, either. Not in the way I thought he did. For him, it was never about protecting her memory, doing what she would want. It was about vengeance. And destroying us in the process.

And the latter... I was alright with.

When I found Professor in the old facility, he promised me something I didn't think was possible-a way to stop the constant ache in my soul. I trusted him. Who else did I have? He was the only one I could rely on, the only one who knew me. I thought he understood me.

But the man I trusted wasn't the man I found. The years, the grief, the hatred-it had consumed him, twisted him into someone unrecognizable. And in the end, I lost sight of who I was, too. I wanted to believe he was still the same. But he wasn't. And I... I followed him anyway.

Maria... she wouldn't have wanted this. She wouldn't have wanted humanity to be destroyed in her name or for me to carry out vengeance in her memory. She wanted good for everyone. Good for me. She wanted me to live. To fight for something better. Not for revenge, but for hope.

The pain blinded me. I wanted them to hurt the same way I have been for so long. The ones who took her from me. The ones who destroyed the only home I ever had, the only family I ever knew. My life.

But most of all, I wanted to disappear along with them.

I didn't think there would be a moment where I could feel at peace again, let alone happy. That future felt impossible, out of reach. Deep down, I knew I wasn't doing the right thing. Not really. But I let myself believe it was the only way. I thought the Professor was right-that we were simply doing what had to be done. That it was all inevitable.

That I did not have a choice.

"You always have a choice."

But then.

That blue hedgehog.

I would've let him end my life. I wanted him to. I wanted him to strike the final blow and make it stop. I definitely deserved it - he deserved to have his revenge after what I had done to Tom. The way he reacted- it was almost identical to me. And it was at that moment that I started doubting the legitimacy of our plan.

He mentioned someone. Longclaw. I wonder who they were to him, how he lost them. If it was anything like Maria. If he had been powerless to stop it, just like I was. When he spoke of them, there was something raw in his voice, something that made me feel... understood. Like he could see my pain. Like he already knew it.

And when he offered to team up, offered me a helping hand, I felt like I wasn't alone. Like I had a choice, another chance. Hope. His aura reminds me of her, really. His enthusiasm, reckless optimism.

I wonder if he lived through that too. He had to. I wonder how he's doing. With that Tom gone... because of me.

And then there's Robotnik-Professor's grandson. He too sacrificed himself to stop the destruction.

Agent Stone. He's the reason Robotnik even did what he did, I reckon. I remember the way the agent looked at him, the unwavering loyalty in his eyes, how happy he seemed to be beside him. He cared about him.

Losing him must've hurt. Once again- somebody is suffering a loss because of our plan.

I wonder how Stone is... and if he knows anything about the blue hedgehog.

I tell myself it doesn't matter. That it's not my concern.

But the thought lingers.

It's been gnawing at me for days now-the uncertainty, the loose ends. I told myself I didn't care. That I didn't need to know. But if that were true, I wouldn't still be thinking about it.

Maybe it's because I don't know what comes next. Maybe because, for the first time, I don't have a path set before me, someone to guide me. Just... silence.

So maybe-maybe-I go. Not because I care. Not because it matters.

But because I want to know.

For now, though, as I lie here under the stars, the thought of that hedgehog stays with me. His determination, his anger, his kindness. It's almost enough to lull me to sleep. Almost.

saw Sonic 3 yesterday, unorganized thoughts under the cut

It’s very interesting to me what parts of Shadow’s backstory were completely changed for the sake of general audiences, most notably being that the GUN base that they lived in was on Earth and the Arc exists only as the Eclipse Canon and not as a space station. Maria has changed to be a perfectly healthy girl, which removes that guilt that the games Shadow has about being what is meant to cure her.

Shadow himself is now just an alien they found and studied instead of a creation of Gerald. This is what happens when you establish your Sonic game characters as aliens instead of an established species. It’s fine, it sets up the Black Arms well, if they ever want to go down that path. But it does kind of remove his status completely as the Ultimate Lifeform, and his inhibitor rings don’t have an explanation given with this context.

The thing that bothered me from the moment I saw it was the big change to Maria’s death. Instead of being shot down ruthlessly by a GUN agent, instead we have the One Good Agent trying to stop them because I swear guys the government isn’t all bad, see he wants to help. So the OGA shoves the shooter and his laser gun, not bullets, lasers, shoots a container of chaos energy which blasts open and kills Maria only and not the old man next to her. The visual of an innocent little girl getting shot with a real bullet is critical to Shadow’s heartache, this feels a bit like they nerfed it for the sake of their rating, something the original game was not scared to do. The games have never shown a bullet wound, they just imply things, the movies do not have the teeth for even that.

Gerald being alive is also something I have thoughts about. In a time in which game Gerald has more depth than ever before, movie Gerald feels very flat. He’s here for Jim Carey twin shenanigans, which I guess makes sense for a version of Robotnik played by Jim Carey, but that’s never been my favorite casting choice so whatever. Gerald being alive plays two roles, 1. to simplify Shadow’s motivation, and 2. to be comic relief and motivation for Eggman.

In 1 he works well, the original version features Gerald remotely altering Shadow’s memories, something that has never fully made sense especially with him being in custody at the time. Here we have him just as a Very Old Man, which makes it possible for him to feed Shadow his poison directly, making it harder for him to defect because he’s got this trauma bond to Gerald. Although I would have liked to see Gerald interact with Maria a bit, we never see their relationship, even just him watching the kids’ fun fondly would be nice. (Side note the kids montage means everything to me.)

For 2. we’re going to talk about Gerald as motivation first, giving Eggman family that understands him deeply is very very good for this version of the character, even if I personally am not a huge Jim Carey person. It’s especially good because it nets us such a gutting line, “You’re nothing like Maria.” In the games we heard via his logs that Eggman was compared to Maria as a kid, but here with the only family he’s ever had rejecting him with a direct comparison to family he’s never known as being not good enough, it’s devastating. Good angst right there.

Now as comic relief Gerald is very Jim Carey, it is fully a twin movie to me with their goofs. Very much not how I think Gerald is but once again fits as a relative of this version of Eggman. The VR montage was pretty good gotta say. I like the belt stand in, it is silly. I do feel like Gerald being such a perfect reflection of Eggman down to the gloves is a bit off to me, but it’s ignorable, and the white Eggman suit does look very good so we’ll let it slide.

Now Eggman, he is at his most canon appearance wise here, even if he doesn’t get The Outfit until later on. I’m particularly happy he’s adopted the Eggman logo, it is just so good, I love it. The Eggmanland reference is nice, I appreciate it, and Stone and Eggman are at their gayest here, with an admittance on both sides of caring about each other. Eggman’s sacrifice is so so good, they gave him the coolest death ever, and it is a very good way to send off the character, “If I can’t rule the world I might as well save it.” Even if the portable black holes make me unreasonably angry logistics wise the visual was beautiful and well appreciated for this one.

The use of Tom and Maria as parallels for Sonic and Shadow is incredibly smart. Going in the majority of people were expecting that Amy Rose turn around speech to be given to another character, instead they wrote in a parallel arc for the main character to go on to give him a deeper understanding of Shadow. He chooses to let go of his revenge, showing Shadow another way with more than just words or a reminder of his real memories. In this version Shadow has his memories of Maria untouched, the pain is the only thing making him do this, not a final wish. Sonic has that reflection, that understanding in the mourning of his mother, he’s seen the bad and the good of the world and helps Shadow through. This is what Sonic is at his core, someone who helps others through. This is Sonic the Hedgehog at his best and I am here for it.

This movie is visually beautiful, the framing of shots and composition is a joy and my favorite moment in the entire movie to just look at is Sonic and Shadow on the moon watching the sunrise. Symbolically it’s beautiful, visually it’s beautiful. Very good shot and very good scene. I love everything being done with the super forms, the care taken to make them look powerful is palpable in the way the fur ripples and glows. The super fight scenes are so anime and the fading of their power feels correct and not too video gamey or arbitrary.

Everything about the climax of the movie is so so good to me. The super forms catching the laser, the teamwork to turn it, the moon getting hit. And of course Eggman and Shadow’s sacrifice which felt very earned. And Knuckles, Knuckles’ save on his brothers is so good and he’s so good and funny here and I love him so so much. These characters are a delight interacting among themselves and I am so here for it. They are brothers and it shows.

The Wachowski family is a good one, and I love them.

Every moment Shadow was onscreen is a delight.

And now we get to the after credits.

AMY ROSE MY BELOVED BABY GIRL AND METAL MY LOVE.

I love the uncanny way that Metal moves, I love his subtle creepiness, this is going to be incredible I just know it. I know in my heart of hearts that there will be small horror elements incorporated into Metal’s scenes because everything about him is uncanny and wrong in a way that I love. It’s an interesting choice to have multiple Metals that has me intrigued. I imagine that his introduction will either be an Eggman contingency or Stone taking up where Eggman left off. Either way Metal will likely have a mind of his own.

I am so so curious if this is going for a Sonic CD or Sonic Heroes type of story, that being how aware is Metal and how in control is he? In Heroes he pretends to be Eggman, will something similar happen here? We’ll see.

And then of course we have the beautiful Amy Rose who looks so so so cute and good and her hammer is here and accurate and I love her so so much and am so excited for her.

I’m really curious what they’re going to do character wise for her relationship with Sonic, because I imagine that Sega is still trying to steer clear of Amy being the clingy person she was in the two thousands with their recent characterization of her and redoing the cutscenes on Generations. But you can’t just cut out her crush entirely because that is very much what she is known for by general audiences. Either way I imagine that this Sonic is very much the type to claim cooties and run, and I feel like they would resolve any conflict caused by something unrequited by the end of her first movie. But we’ll see!

We join the Freedom Fighters on the tail end of a successful mission, but what’s most intriguing about this issue is right there in the title box. While we’ve had a story from Lew Stringer already over in the poster mags, this is his first story in the main book. Not only that, but this story is called “Metamorphia” and if you have even a casual interest in StC, you’ve probably heard of this addition to the rogues’ gallery, who Stringer is about to introduce us to

Amy shoots her shot and gets shot down, as this bear mobian asks Sonic for help. Now, you might think they’re playing the old “Sonic ignores Amy in favour of another girl” card but as I’ve pointed out a few times already, Sonic is just really invested in helping civilians and shows them a kindness that he doesn’t seem to show his own team. Maybe it’s that he feels his team can handle him for being the asshole he is? But that’s besides the point right now

Also, I’m not going to beat about the bush with this. I’m sure you’ve probably already guessed that, with the villain in the title being a play on the word “metamorph”, this bear isn’t who she’s claiming to be

Amy might not be able to read the title, but she also gets bad vibes from this stranger and Tails agrees with her. But Sonic passes off these concerns as jealousy and is quick to head on his way, leaving the two of them behind

Yeah, sure, this looks like the safest zone I’ve ever seen

Sonic shares this sentiment and while he looks away, our damsel in distress suddenly looks a lot more sinister…

They get attacked by soldier badniks (I tend to call them Troopers, but I’m not sure if they’re actually called that?) and while Sonic thinks they’re the most dangerous thing here, he’s seconds away from being proven wrong

Here she is, Metamorphia! She introduces herself and her home, the Grim Zone, with Sonic having to admit that Amy & Tails were right not to trust her

Metamorphia transforms into a gas to knock Sonic out and like, damn, I know shapeshifter characters are often OP, but that’s pretty OP! Not that I’m complaining at all, since it’s always good to have more powerful threats on the villains’ side. Though unlike Captain Plunder, it turns out that Metamorphia is another agent working for Robotnik

Sonic wakes up in a some kind of prison cube, but it doesn’t even take him a few seconds after Metamorphia explains how it works for him to bust out of it lmao

Metamorphia escapes and Tails shows up, but I’m sure we can all figure out that Tails hasn’t suddenly developed the ability to back-talk Sonic

There’s something so funny about the villain being so blatant as to say “take a look over that cliff”. Also, I guess Metamorphia really hates Bluey. That’s my headcanon now

Sonic was about as fooled by her disguise as we were and leaves Metamorphia to her fate. Turns out that even if she can turn into a gas, she can’t mimic Tails’s ability to fly

I had wondered if Sonic would eat humble pie when he got back to Amy & Tails, but nope, he’s vague about what happened. Amy saying “Did your new girlfriend chuck you” is yet another reminder of exactly how British these characters sound. Meanwhile, our story ends on the confirmation that Metamorphia lives to see another day and we’ll certainly be seeing her again in future

Now, like the previous issue, this was a standalone story setting up lore to pull from in future. But I have to confess that I enjoyed this one a lot more. Even if I didn’t have much to say, I felt like there was a lot more stuff I wanted to hold up and go “Look at this!” Which isn’t me saying that I think Stringer is a better writer than Kitching by any means - both of them have wonderful stories that I enjoy and you wouldn’t have StC without either writer. But this was a strong start for Stringer and I’m looking forward to more

As for Metamorphia, I just like girl villains, so I’m obviously looking forward to her comeback. Having started reading StC with issue 80, the only story I saw of Metamorphia was the end of her character arc and the final story she appears in (which actually ends up being a Tails solo story), so I’m looking forward to seeing how her journey plays out before she gets to that final destination

endeavor having his "how do I fix this?" soliloquy again, as if he has any valid moves beyond just disengaging from his family and trying not to fuck things up like that again in the future. kinda wonder if he ever figures that out, or if the writer decides that somehow he does get redemption. any price endeavor could pay would feel far too low. -- like, I don't get "this character makes no sense" vibes from endeavor like I do with bakugo; endeavor and his family feel intelligently-written to me. …remembering that bakugo is in this show, though, makes me worry that endeavor's and/or shoto's storyline could end up going somewhere that, like, won't sit right.

Pushing Snively and Agent Stone from the Sonic movies aside, since they clearly and unavoidably knew their versions of Doctor Robotnik long before Sonic the Hedgehog came into the picture, how different do you think the Fleetway and IDW Sonic comics would respectively be if Grimer Wormtongue and Doctor Starline were instead followers of Sonic instead of Robotnik/Eggman?

Would have to be down in a way that makes sense, though.

I admit, this one's a pretty tall order. You're essentially asking me what if Starline and Grimer weren't the people they are. Their devotion and eventual disillusionment with Eggman/Robotnik are pretty integral to their characters and their arcs as characters within those books. Compounding this, both of them are adults while Sonic remains a teenager- its an odd dynamic for characters to have, given the sheer devotion Starline and Grimer had for the Big Round Guy.

In the case of Fleetway it also completely upends everything since Grimer as Robotnik's assistant helped him to build many of the Badniks that were used to conquer Mobius during Sonic's absence, including the Metallix series. In one timeline we see that even without Kitnobor becoming Robotnik, Grimer still winds up in opposition to Sonic and creating the Metallixes himself, thus leading to a doomed Mobius under their dominion.

Starline likewise is defined by being fan of Eggman, and that his devotion is ultimately misguided… but rather than rethink what he is doing upon that revelation and upon being rejected by his idol, he instead decides to outdo him and creates even more trouble for everyone before his own arrogance causes his doom.

I think just in general that Starline and Grimer's sense of right and wrong are so skewed that even if they did decide to follow Sonic's example for whatever reason they'd just wind up causing troubles for people anyway, and in the case of Starline you'd probably eventually get him making Kit and Surge AGAIN purely to prove he could Build A Better Sonic by having them act as destructive 'heroes' who cause more problems than they solve, oh, and probably returning Mr. Tinker to being Eggman almost purely out of spite.

I feel something similar would happen with Grimer- that his good intentions would just cause more harm and lead him to either joining up with Robotnik who can 'appreciate' his talents, or lead him towards going solo and becoming a threat on his own.
