So I've had people be weird with me about my religion in the past, but last night, I had some be so egregiously shitty that I low-key didn't know how to respond. They referred to one of the deities I worship, Dionysus, as a character in a "canon" and that they so firmly rejected the "canon" that they were upset when people refused to acknowledge their "headcanon" (they firmly believed that Haides and Persephone were the sole parents of Dionysus; this is not confirmed in any mythos, and they eventually admitted that). They first tried to play it off as some "old myth that was later changed" that I had never heard of, and when I called them out on this, they got incredibly defensive. It was incredibly disrespectful, especially since I had told this person beforehand that I was a worshipper of Greek deities.

You wouldn't walk up to a Muslim and call Allah a "canon character" then proceed to tell them your "headcanon" about Allah. That's weird as fuck! That's abhorrent, even! Regardless of whether or not you believe in someone's religion, it's legitimately not hard to be respectful.

It's honestly frustrating that I've seen non-Russian queer people almost bragging about how they would be illegal in Russia, labeled an extremist or terrorist. Russian queers are in danger, their government has made it clear where it stands, and it's made this effort for the better part of a decade (even longer, perhaps). This will kill people, don't mistake this for a quirky little proclamation from a government, akin to somebody saying the sky is pink. Russian queer people were already expressing their fear, and the least we can do now is express our love for them, and advocate with them.

Russian queer people, I love you. I love you all so much. I am so sorry, I cannot begin to express the grief that I feel, and I hope that you are safe. Words cannot encapsulate how I feel as a non-Russian, and I cannot hope to comprehend how it feels to actually be in this situation.

911 really is such a good reminder of the particularly kind of joy that is weekly, seasons-long shows with many episodes per season. every character gets a moment to shine even in a truncated season. the satisfaction of seeing characters grapple with stuff that happened YEARS ago. having multi-episode arcs and one-off arcs that are equally enjoyable. beach episodes (metaphorical). I know we're all saying this all the time but why can't more tv be like this

The thing about HotD is that it while it absolutely minimizes the agency and ambition of both Rhaenyra and Alicent, this is specifically used to glorify Rhaenyra and frame her as righteous while condemning Alicent and framing her lacking. That's the key difference in both their textual portrayals that has directly led to 90% of the fandom hailing Rhaenyra as the second coming of Christ while spewing the most hateful vitriol at Alicent just for existing. But y'all are not prepared for that conversation.

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?

tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.

How many bathrooms do you think Nightmare's castle has? I can't see them each having their own cause that would be way too many but do you think they all share one?

Asking because I have a hc that Killer takes showers that last like, at least 45 minutes. Not that they need the bathrooms for anything other than bathing really, but I feel like Cross is the one most annoyed by it because he's probably the only one with a consistent hygiene routine. When Killer finally gets out Cross asks him, exasperated, "what were you doing, washing one bone at a time??" and Killer just says "sorry I had to wash my hair" and strolls past.

In reality Killer washes up pretty fast, but he likes standing under the showerhead and letting the hot water run over him. It washes the determination off him even as it drips out and he likes the feeling of being surrounded by warmth, it's like a full body hug and it makes him feel truly at peace for just a little bit. Until somebody starts banging on the door telling him to get out.

i really do think the desire to paint ten as unambiguously The Worst™️ when it comes to his relationship with martha is out of this desire to uncomplicate their relationship. to decouple them as friends and people who profoundly impacted each other’s lives. it’s just an easier narrative to swallow: that ten was Awful to her and then martha kicked him to the curb when she realized she was too good for him. easier, maybe, then dealing with the troubles of unrequited affection don’t have to be anyone’s fault, or that ten shut martha out in a lot of ways but let her in in others that he wouldn’t let any other companion near, or that they were still friends, they still wanted to see each other and be around each other, even though it was messy and sometimes hurt. you know?

i think i need to write a fic where kevin is like the scummiest toxic ex possible (preferably to jean), just to get it out of my system. look, i love kevin and think he can do no wrong but i really just need to see him with that "ex, whom you've had a bad breakup with, calls you out of the blue because they're having problems and they couldn't think of anyone else to turn to" energy from tfc. idk it's just very compelling to me.
