You have opened a wormhole for me with this ask and I’m gonna try to be normal while answering it but also I have to get this out so walk with me….

In short, yeah he does get a sort of ego boost, but it’s mostly… reassurance? He’s so spoiled with attention and he doesn’t even realize it until you’re Not jealous… and even though he’ll deny this until the day he dies, it’s so evident. He doesn’t really need you to get overtly jealous, he doesn’t need you throwing stones at people who look at him twice, or scolding him for thirty-second interactions with attractive strangers—but he does expect a certain level of protectiveness from you. He’s your significant other, shouldn’t you want to?—he knows he feels it. And besides, he really doesn’t know any other way to show his love for people, and more importantly, how to see that other people are showing their love for him. Megumi has always had dogs in the literal sense of his pets, but also in the people who care about him: Gojo follows him around and bothers him and nips at him like a spoiled chihuahua even if Megumi tells him off for it, Nobara invades his life and personal space like a bratty yorkie, and Yuuji is the husky he mistakenly gave affection once and is now dramatic whenever he doesn’t receive it. So when you don’t follow Megumi around, when you don’t nuzzle yourself into him to get his attention, when you don’t paw at him to get him to pay attention to you instead of whoever or whatever he’s currently engaged with, he’s so confused, and a little bit upset, and a lot pouty. Because why do you hate him… if you loved him, you’d simply bark for his attention, wouldn’t you 🙄?

So when you DO any of those things, when you huff when he’s not paying attention to you, or get upset that he has other plans, or tell him you don’t like the person he’s been spending time with instead of you, then that teeny part of him that loves that reaction is very satisfied. He knows he probably shouldn’t feel this happy to have you jealous, but he does, and such is life… sometimes he acts gruff if you’re being unreasonable dramatic about whatever you’re jealous of, but most times he tries to play it cool, reassure you that he doesn’t like who or whatever more than you—gives you a pat on the head, pokes at your cheek briefly, if he’s feeling really happy about you having your paws on him you might get a kiss to the side of your head; all his silent way of calming your nerves and saying “good girl,” because that’s the reaction he expects of you. Honestly, he’ll do whatever it takes to make you happy if you really are upset with him, because he loves you and he doesn’t want you to feel badly, but also because he’s a little bit giddy that you want all of his attention like this, so who is he not to give it to you

I'm so obsessed with the way he talks, like absolutely entranced by his cadence and I love every scene of him telling some story. and I know that he'd know that, maybe not right away but eventually he'd recognize the look you give him around the bonfire while he's talking to the group is the same one you give him late in the evening close to the final page of your date nights. OH MY GOD!

when you find out he speaks french! i'm woozy just thinking about it, (i don't even care that i can't understand quebecois for the life of me) you'd ask him to say something to you just so you could hear the sound of it. even if he's gotten a little rusty since he hasn't has anyone to speak it with, and even if all he can recite are the few stories he remembers from his childhood, or motorcycle parts he's learned from the translations on the back of manuals. like a late night and you cant sleep and you just want the sound of his voice to relax to...he might not totally understand the attraction, but he's not one to look a gift horse in the mouth and if you're into it who is he to deny you such a simple wish?

and I don't think he'd be the type to be one of those "my old ball and chain" guys, like he's undoubtedly in love with you and in love with being around you as often as possible. so if you're home while he's working in the garage he's setting up a lawn chair for you to relax in, just to keep him company, if the weather's nice he's putting it out in the sun for you and if it's a little too hot he sets you up in the shade with a little cooler with whatever the two of you are into that week. and he's certainly not letting you lift a finger. not because he thinks you'll break something (which like you might, but who am i to judge) but because he doesn't want you getting grease all over your outfit or roughing up those soft, pretty hands of yours. he just wants your company

for right now in this moment, i'm all over the idea of being his "girl back home" like he's out in chicago with all these bikers getting into god knows what kind of trouble, while you're safe at home just thinking about him every hour of every day. of course he calls whenever he gets the chance, but it's never a sure thing with the amount of time he spends out on the longer runs. and long distance calls are expensive, but every time he does it's so precious. the few times you hear some new midwestern phrase or pronunciation slip in and get a few extra seconds on the call just to poke a little more fun at him.

the guys get ahold of his wallet one day and can't believe he's kept you a secret this long. 3 different pictures of you sit in the accordion folded holder between the fold of his wallet and he thanks god for the feeling he got that morning he should change the ones he had in before (much more,,,invigorating if you will), for these three that he brought with him too, just to be sure he can see all your different expressions every time he reaches into his back pocket.

AND WHEN YOU COME TO VISIT!! at first he's not so sure it's the best idea, worrying you won't like the guys or something might happen once you're there, but all that is secondary the moment he thinks about how long it's been since he's last seen you, and before he knows it he's calling you back and taking you up on that offer to get a week off of work and coming to see him. Once you're there he's not leaving your side for a minute, firstly because he feels the need to let everyone else know you're his (and that you are real, as much as Zipco and Wahoo tried to get him to admit to the pictures in his wallet being magazine clippings because what's a girl like you doing with a pinko "college-boy" like him) and second because he's missed you so much for so long and he doesn't know the next time you'll be back so he's getting every second he can with you

and oh goodness are you impressed with this new look he's adopted. so different from what he used to wear to class or out walking around the city together, but still it fits him so well. your knees almost give out the 3rd day of your visit when he comes out from his bedroom in a black tank top and his denim vest...and maybe you do feign heat exhaustion just so he'll take you home early on the back of the bike he's spent so many phone calls telling you about...just because the heat was a more internal kind doesn't mean it's any less real. or maybe the exhaustion was just that you were getting tired of seeing him look that hot without doing anything about it. either way he hasn't seen you pull him up his apartment stairs that fast since you first started dating

and not maybe, but certainly, your trip goes from one week to two to a month until the tragic reality of responsibility sinks in and you realize you really are running out of clothes...

wild to me to see posts like "wow everything in the tempest is named after shakespeare...emet you melodramatic bitch you sure loved theater". because the prospero-emet thing gets played up so hard in the english script and you can carry it so far!

like prospero is an asshole magician who, after being deposed by his brother as duke of milan, settles himself and his daughter on a remote island, enslaves the local spirits using his magic, and bitterly plots to reclaim his past glories. he rules through violence and deceit, and only survives and is reconciled when his plots reach their fruition and his brother is taken to his remote island and plots ensue and everyone decides he was totally right all along and they were huge dicks to him and they're sooooo sorry and he gets to go back and be duke again wow! and it's okay because he's like "i was only doing mean magic to get my rightful spot back and now i'm giving it up because magic is evil. :)"

the tempest is what emet wants his life to be. prospero is not a villain in the text of the tempest. he is barely treated as antagonistic by the text and framing of the play itself. all his abuses, his neglect and control of his daughter, his enslavement of caliban and ariel (local spirits/monsters/people of the island), his deception and plots against his brother, his abuse of magical powers (not awesome, from the pov of the contemporary audience), all that ultimately gets swept aside in the rightness of his return to milan and the warm feeling of the world being set to rights. prospero can't undo the years he spent on the island but they are ultimately a blip in his life before he returns to the rightful state of affairs. his abuse and enslavement of caliban, easily the worst thing he does in the play, is totally set aside when caliban goes "wow now i see how truly benevolent my master is. i love him and see the ways of christian good and i'm so, so appreciative he chose not to kill or beat me even though he totally could have and would have been in the right. he's so just and intelligent." everyone loves and forgives him and they all agree both his management of the island and his ultimate return are so good and so wise and so right.

emet comparing himself to the tempest (or being compared to it, depending on how you want to read the diegetic status of the place names) is absolute wishcasting. it is an attempt to manifest the happy ending he will never, ever get because his sins cannot and would not be forgiven in the way he wants. he wants to imagine himself as the righteous returned duke whose crimes, including the enslavement, abuse, and exploitation of those he saw as his rightful inferiors, were totally worth it, i promise. and if emet is prospero, the warrior of light is his caliban.

Sooooo this post by @lover-of-mine got my brain going brrrrrr over the Mitchell Mitchell Charlie Charlie ambulance of it all

Because there are also two Freddie’s tied up in this as well but it’s more than that - it’s the living/dying danger/no danger (technically) of it all.

Bear with me - I need to set it out for my brain because there’s something about the Mitchell’s dying and the Charlie’s putting Buck and Eddie in the line of fire (by this I mean both of them at the same time and not one or the other being in danger)

We have Charlie 1, who puts the both of them in danger (unintentionally) with the grenade in his leg. Up to this point Buck and Eddie have been at odds but this bonds them and we get the ‘we might end up real close’ line. This is essentially the foundation stone/ moment of their relationship.

Then, 7 episodes later we have Mitchell 1, who gets crushed by a car and dies. Neither Buck or Eddie are in any danger during this call. And we have the establishing of Bucks method statement - ‘you don’t find it you make it. (Which imo is the first time we see buck misunderstanding the assignment)

Then we have Charlie 2, again Buck and Eddie are both put into (again unintentional) danger when the come under gun fire. This time Eddie does get hurt but it plays into the might end up real close concept as ultimately we see the bond getting even tighter through the will.

Then guess what 7 episodes later (you can’t tell me this isn’t intentional at this point) we meet Mitchell 2, who like Mitchell 1 dies. Whilst Buck and Eddie can be seen to be in danger throughout this episode, in reality neither of them are truly in danger - killing them wont get Mitchell what he wants, so even though we are held in suspense through the episode, the reality is that they’re ‘safe’.

There is something about how a Charlie binding them ever closer together while Mitchell’s are a omen - they foreshadow events later in their respective seasons.

Mitchell 1 gets crushed by his car, foreshadowing Bucks crush injury at end of season (and the hand holding parallel is not lost on me either - Thomas holding Mitchell’s hand and Eddie being the one holding Bucks).

Mitchell 2 is Eddie’s foreshadowing - he blows out his brains to protect his heart so it can be transplanted into his son. This is foreshadowing Eddie’s mental health breakdown - he neglects brain in trying to protect his son - his heart - Mitchell’s heart is a literal one and a metaphorical one while Eddie’s is more just metaphorical.

Then there are the two Freddie’s - Freddie Costas sets of bomb that crushes buck and Freddie Vaughn is the guard who is lax with Mitchell and ends up injured at the initiation of the prison riot.

And now we have two Thomas/Tommys - both who seem to be there to direct Buck to the correct path in some way - Thomas set buck on the path of you make it and it feels to me a bit like Tommy is going to play a part in either reenforcing that concept for Buck (correcting his path) or building onto the idea of making something.

Basically we need to be on the look out for Charlie’s Mitchell’s Freddie’s

Actually, the Arateph Rapunzel retelling might be salvageable if I kill my very favorite darling.

Buckle up, rubber ducks!

This retelling is set just after the revolution. Zemma is a scholar--an astronomer--who's been living in an isolated tower working on a major project for years. She's been sheltered from the revolution--why should she care about politics when she has an entire universe of stars to explore?--and has continued her work relatively uninterrupted, thanks to the help of her mentor who stops by periodically to take care of the daily life details like making sure she eats.

One night while 's Zemma's working, a young man--Camreth--climbs through an open window in her tower. She eventually learns that he's a fugitive nobleman on the run from revolutionary authorities (not quite sure how long it takes her to figure this out, which is just one of the problems with the outline). Since she has no political opinions, she sees no reason not to provide him food and shelter and a bit of first aid.

Camreth is a cheerful soul who's running from some major survivor's guilt--he managed to escape when rebels seized his family's manor, and he hates himself for running instead of helping his family escape execution. He's also desperate for companionship, so when he finds this beautiful, fascinating scholar who's willing to help him, he finds himself returning again and again to her tower. Camreth brings Zemma presents and stories that remind her there's a world beyond her tower and her work, and that she can't just bury herself in the stars and forget about the people around her. Zemma helps Camreth to see there's a world beyond the darkness and sorrows of the revolution, reminding him of the beauty of the universe and giving him hope that he could have a future worth having. And they fall in love.

The plan was for Zemma to suggest marrying him--giving him her name to give him an identity to replace his noble status. (Not sure how they'd finangle the legality/logistics of this to keep people from finding out his original identity. Find a sympathetic backcountry official who's willing to marry them and not ask too many questions?) After a period of happiness, Zemma's mentor finds out about Camreth, does start asking questions, and turns him into the authorities, who capture him at Zemma's tower.

It turns out that Camreth isn't just a nobleman--he's the son of one of the queen's sisters, a first cousin to Prince Auren, and thus a high-priority target. Zemma's also pregnant with his twins, who, because of their noble blood, are deemed worthy of death. Camreth sacrifices himself so Zemma and their unborn children can escape.

Now for The Darling.

After his capture, Camreth is put through torture to make him reveal the whereabouts of other escaped nobles. Camreth knows nothing. Then a Big Name Official shows up and stops the torture to demand the answer to one question: Where is Prince Auren?

Camreth was relatively close with his cousin, so the question seems like another form of torture. He knows that Auren's dead. The rebels released footage of the spindle strike. Do they just want to make him say it out loud--to admit that all hope is lost and he's about to suffer the same fate?

Then it hits him--this is a genuine question. They don't know! Which means that Auren escaped! Alive, because there's no reason they'd go through this much trouble for a corpse. The crown prince is still out there and the revolution is in danger from him!

This knowledge makes him a bit giddy, and he starts to laugh triumphantly. "You marked him for death with his very name, and yet he lives!"

Which enrages his captors and they stab his eyes out.

Camreth is saved at the brink of death by the timely arrival of some counter-revolutionaries. When he's recovered, he tries to reveal Auren's survival to them, but none of them are interested in it--they're too interested in seizing power for themselves to want to chase a wild rumor that, on the slim chance it's true, would put the crown prince on the throne.

So he manages to go off on his own (probably with the help of some sympathetic friend) and wander until he finds his way back to Zemma and their children. And he's got this new family that gives him hope that the world goes on, and the knowledge that Auren is alive that gives him hope that the world could get better, and this hope gives us a sense of happily-ever-after.

Except that Auren doesn't have any relevance to the earlier parts of the story, so this discovery doesn't advance the character arcs or themes of this story. And we know that they don't find Auren for a hundred years, which undercuts the idea that this is a happy ending. It leans very heavily on the earlier story for its impact, when I'd like this to stand relatively alone.

So if I cut the connection to Auren and that torture scene, those difficulties go away. The happy resolution of the story is then focused on Camreth finding new hope in the future he has--a wife and children--rather than in political plots that won't be successful.

Then--how/why is he blinded? This could happen off-screen, and be explained as the outcome of torture. Maybe it could be a torture method that's meant to be temporary, so Zemma can help undo it in the end. Maybe he's not blinded at all, which makes his eventual escape and finding Zemma again much more logistically probable.

But we also have the problem that Zemma disappears for the third act of the story. In a romance, I want to make sure both characters have something to do. If she's pregnant with twins, her taking direct action to help with a rescue attempt is difficult and extremely reckless--she'd endanger two innocent lives for Camreth's sake, which is the exact opposite of what he wanted her to do. If it's only herself, it's much more justifiable.

We could even skip over the marriage--which is already logistically shaky--and make that the traditional happy ending of the fairy tale. Perhaps they were planning to get married, which makes the mentor suspicious of the man who's taking her charge away from important work, and the authorities arrive before it can happen. So then after their escape they can find someone to marry them way out in the middle of nowhere and then settle into a happy life of obscurity. That does cut away a lot of difficulties and nicely streamlines the story.

But then in this case--is it too slim of a story to matter? I could make it rather short--maybe aim more for a novelette than a novella. Which could then let me focus on more substantial stories.

Anyone who's interested--does it sound worth writing? Any thoughts on solutions?

oooh I'm intrigued. What was the creative process to create Spelldon? :0

oohhh well when i started the cover, i got a lot of creative freedom and was allowed to give my take on both valentine and spelldon so they'd have comic-specific designs. spelldon was the biggest challenge ofc, i was told he should look similar to casta fierce since they're siblings, the rest was up to me. i knew the fans had been waiting a long time to see these two so i started by doing a bunch of research, like rewatching Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love and that webshort casta is in, to immerse myself in the monster high world. my first thought was what if spelldon has curly hair, a dangly earring and a cool jacket… i like when a character's fashion/style reflects their personality so I basically build on that. i wanted him to stand on his own and not just be "casta but a boy", so I tried stuff like flipping their style and color palette while keeping elements like makeup, studs and the hairstreak to see what looks cooler. where casta's colorful dress and long hair are at the center of her design, i thought spelldon could have the opposite. then I also had to make sure he stood out from valentine, since they'd both be wearing a lot of black. so I thought what if he wears a lot of accessories, maybe that could make him unique? what if his hair has a different silhouette than valentine's? stuff like that. and then finally, I'd work on stylizing and simplifying the design so it's easier for the comic artists to adapt!

worked on the cover and design at the same time so time ran short but that's some of the main ideas. it was a wild process and put a lot of love into it! at first i just designed his face (cus that's what i'd mainly be drawing for the cover) but Mattel liked him so much i ended up fully designing him, which you can see now in the comic! thx for asking♡︎
