Damien released a bitter, humorless laugh. He started pacing on the narrow stair he was standing on, an uneasy task given its limited space. He looked quite ridiculous. Sebastian nearly laughed at the absurdity of this whole situation, but somehow managed to hold back. As Damien continued speaking, his words carried a mix of resignation and defiance. "Fine. I wasn't going to tell you, but maybe I should. I'm no longer friends with a goblin because Lodgok's dead. Ranrok murdered him in front of me."

Sebastian's entire body froze, and his face slackened. Oh. "What? When did that happen?" he managed to choke out.

"Why does it matter to you? You made it very clear to me that you despise all goblins."

"It does matter to me. I'm..." Sebastian struggled to find the right words, but before he could gather himself, Damien interjected once more.

"You're...what? Sorry? I find that hard to believe. Relieved? That sounds more like you."

Sebastian winced. He hadn't expected Damien to be capable of delivering words that could cut so deeply. "Do you really think I'm that heartless?"

A resigned sigh escaped Damien's lips. "I'm not sure what to think. I'd like to think you care."

"I do," Sebastian replied earnestly. Yet, he still couldn't find the words to say how he felt. He did know that he didn't like to see Damien this upset. And he was sorry Damien lost a friend. He needed to fix this.

My friends who have never experienced flooding, and who are about to deal with it from this storm, please remember:

1. NO. YOU CANNOT MAKE IT THROUGH THAT WATER ON THE ROAD. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU'RE DRIVING. TURN. AROUND.

2. DO NOT GO WADING THROUGH THE WATER. EVEN IF YOU JUST WANT TO SEE HOW DEEP IT IS. THAT. WATER. IS. CONTAMINATED.

3. IT IS CALLED FLASH FLOODING FOR A REASON. THE WATER RISES AND SURGES IN A FLASH. STAY. HOME.

4. If you're at risk of flooding, raise up any of your belongings now. Put the legs of tall things in buckets. Know where your important documents are.

5. Stay safe.

if it's good enough for you, then it deserves to be made. don't let anyone else decide if your story is worth it or not.

If you have achieved something, please remember to observe a mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, actually, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals, so, naturally, nothing good ever comes of trying. (And no, avoiding punishment is not a reward!)

I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends!).
