wow I didn’t think reblogging that tea post and then seeing people’s tags would deal me such strong psychic damage. come over I can fix you I can find a tea you will like. “I don’t like tea” how can you say that as a blanket statement when there are so many vastly different kinds of tea. head in hands

#‘it’s like coffee but not good’#while a cup of black tea does have a great deal less caffeine in it than coffee #it also has a stimulant called l-theanine which is NOT found in coffee #and the more complex combination of the two stimulants hit your system much more slowly #which is why tea doesn’t give you jitters like coffee does #anyone who’s like wow I need my coffee to survive but I hate that it makes me nauseous and gives me heart palpitations and bad breath #to you I say. wean yourself off coffee and onto tea!!!!!!!#but WAIT I can keep going. nauseous? ginger tea. sore throat? peppermint contains menthol which works as a numbing agent #green and black teas are both very high in antioxidants #chamomile and lavender do both have a calming affect #BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TASTE I hear you say #IT TASTES LIKE GRASS. try a floral tea or a black tea or chai or Thai tea #ITS SO BITTER you’re either steeping it for too long or the water you’re using is too hot #not to sound like I’m fucking uncle iroh or something I just apparnerlt have strong thoughts and feelings about tea #I can’t handle ppl going ugh I hate tea and it’s like. overbrewed lipton in microwaved tap water.#anyway MY favorites are jasmine and lavender earl grey #and currently I’m really into this corn silk tea my brother bought me at h mart #it’s like gen mai cha but even more #congrats for making it this far into my tea rant tags. if you comment your tastes I can give you a personalized tea recommendation

#yes this is how we got together. yes i know you remember this and it was also annoying back then #box opener #we both had to work today but managed to fit in pancake breakfast and vegan italian restaurant dinner so i consider it a success #pancakes are really outrageously good. and very easy to veganize with no decline in quality which is a perk in a Mixed Diets household #if you don't make your own pancake mix i recommend trying it at some point. it lasts a long time and it tastes nicer b/c you can combine #various flours and meals to add additional flavor beyond the enticing yet weird glue paste quality that i always get from white flour only #however i was raised on whole wheat + oat flour pancakes so i may be the only person with this problem.#forget my anniversary this is a pancakes post now. do you think pancakes are better with additional flour types???? Do you ever read your own writing for fun?

YES. Absolutely 100% yes! I write for myself and my own enjoyment first and foremost; I know what I like and how I like it, so it only makes sense that I enjoy reading my works, haha! It's a lot of fun!

If you could erase any three tropes from existence, what would they be?

This is a hard one to answer, because I'm a strong believer in the fact that there's no capital sins in writing -- as long as the writer knows what they're doing, anything and everything can become the foundation for a wonderful, poignant story.

That being said... there are some common tropes (particularly in romances) I'm not too fond of. Love triangles are one of those (they mostly seem childish to me, honestly), and I also don't really enjoy love at first sight (attraction yes, interest yes, but love? at first sight? definitely not my thing!). Contrary to popular taste, I'm not a big fan of enemies-to-lovers, unless there's an extensive 'friends' phase in between. So yeah, if I had to pick: love triangles, love at first sight, enemies-to-lovers. :)

#you know that post that's like #'re-reading my own works because the author has my exact same understanding of the characters & themes and loves my exact same tropes'?#yeah that's me lmao #i definitely recommend re-reading one's works to anyone who writes! it's a *lot* of fun (and also a good way to improve!)#i'd never actually erase any of those tropes because we'd lose some incredible stories like Romeo & Juliet and the mere thought pains me #but they are very popular (esp. in fandom) and not often well-done imho #so maybe i just dislike them out of excessive exposure idk #but yeah if i had to pick it wold be those #i think they all share the same fundamental problem for me. which is that i think true deep love comes from friendship and affection first #might be because i'm on the ace spectrum #but i strongly believe there's a solid foundation of friendship behind every great love story #so tropes that try to bypass that foundation of mutual understanding and trust aren't really my thing #no shade to those who enjoy them ofc this is just my personal taste #writing

#silver under nightfall is one of those books where i cannot tell if it's actually good #or just so addictive and perfectly tailored to my tastes it blinded me ajndkgjdkj #i was very torn btwn it and Bad Cree by Jessica Johns - very few books have ever made me cry as hard as bad cree (complimentary)#so. that's another one i vouch for 😌#also!!! i always have a hard time comparing fiction to nonfiction so i did not include it here #but i HIGHLY recommend Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou #it's a nonfiction book on the infamous Theranos fiasco from the investigative reporter who broke the story and it is FASCINATING #anyway. tysm!!!

"Your Body Is A Weapon" by the Wombats

#song of the day #'someone protect me from the one I love' looping in my head #this is another fun song to sing. who comes up with lines like 'my body is a temple of doom / doomed not to be / by your side'#I have to admit also for all that some of my favorite people are very guitar people I do not have an ear for it #so the Wombats like Greta Van Fleet and a couple others sound like older bands to me. very very surprised to find this song is from 2015 #I mentioned the other day that I usually have an origin story for most of the songs I know because mostly I get them from specific places #recommendations and curated playlists and such #and partially that really helps my memory for songs! they all come with strong associations! self-creating mnemonics!#but also it really skews my perception of when songs are from and how popular they are #the other day I played a song for Nick that I thought he'd like #and I did tell him that I thought it was probably a cover because a lot of the other songs on the playlist were #and he looked at me like I was truly stupid and he said 'it's definitely a cover. because that is a Taylor Swift song'#and I was genuinely just like neat! good to know!#I did listen to the original and I do think I like the cover better but my taste is so specific and scattered that it means nothing #I also apparently heard Sleep Token's new album right as it came out in a way that impressed Nick by like #how cutting-edge my metal knowledge was I guess. hipster-style immediate knowledge of the new release. before it was cool etc #and I had to be like nah bro it was a fic title I googled I get no credit for this. also I didn't know the band existed before this album #there's no way I was looking for the new release. the song the album and the band all just came into being before me simultaneously #this ramble is really long now and I feel like y'all get the point #the Wombats are cool though

#finally got some more incense from my uncle and immediately burned a hole in my brand new curtains #im not very bright am i #i thought like 'hmm. is it too close to the curtain' as i set it down and still just let it be there #it doesnt RLY bother me but like come onnn i got the curtains like this week!!#my uncle gave me a bunch of ones he had and since they didnt have labels ive been just kind of testing which ones smell good #and this one didnt so i thought ok ill let it burn up next to the window so it doesnt stink up the whole place #shoulda just watered it and tossed it away.... oh well #complaining here since its too stupid and small of a thing and my fault to complain about to any real person #anyway i also got jasmine incense and omg. it smells so good #ive always thought jasmine smells like intoxicating its so strong and so like strangely sweet #so good would recommend #i have jasmine tea too but either it doesnt taste like much or im bad at making it #smells great tho!#my post

If this world is stupid and people fail to see all the corporate related issues, and brain implants get mass adopted I can tell you two things

One, I won't get one, I don't even want my fridge to have something like that, so why would I want it in my own brain?

Two, I will figure out how they're hacked and I will use this information to drop songs directly into people's brains. I will DJ for people regardless of what they want, because you can say many things about me but I do have good taste in music so I'm right to make them listen to things like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds

#it's also worth noting that this isn't in relation to any news that may or may not exist #(I saw a headline but we all know those can be bullshit and I just don't care about or respect this)#so this isn't about world events this is about the technology for me to do this being mass adopted #the second is that I also like very very bad music sometimes; but I'm aware that it's wretched and terrible; it just... it's interesting #like how did you make it this bad? part of me wants to try and and make just awful music... it feels like it would be hard to make #it feels like bland and not great is more common than actively horrible #like that messed up version of Take On Me on here; or Temporary Secretary; what a delightfully dreadful song #it's like that gif of Data drinking something and going Disgusting; and then saying 'Yes please' when offered more #my enjoying truly terrible music doesn't effect me having good taste in music cause I know that truly awful stuff #but bad music is like IPAs; I know it's kinda bad and an acquired taste; I'd never recommend it unless I knew someone liked it

alcohol tasted AWFUL to me the first 21.5 years of my life and then this past christmas break sth clikced and now suddenly.... i like it. and I'm enjoying that i like it and NOW am enjoying drunkenness almost every evening (im much less of a lightweofht than i look but much more of one than i like to think) and im wondering if maybe i shld be ..... concerned.

#this is me off a bottle of mikes hard lemonade (5%) and a few sips of barefoot moscato (9%)#'more of a lightweight than i look but more of one thab i like to think i am' is .... VERY generous lmfaoooo #anyways. in the past i wouldnt drink except socially & to get drunk but i couldnt stand the taste so id just shoot everything #but some family members are more Alcohol Connoisseurs and sth clicked christmas and im like Damn ......#also walmart has this cheese filled garlic breadsticks. Cole's breadsticks. #hehe just watched it #very fun very silly #also felt good to watch something i felt was clearly made like.... without worrying about how other ppl would perceive it #like clearly made for a specific ingroup and they didnt try to make themselves palatable #i just watched bit a few days ago that blew up online in like 2020 or something cus it was about lesbian vampires that hate men #and the manosphere threw a fit about it because there's a scene where they mention killing abusive men lol #but it was really bad. it felt very juvenile and like they were clearly still trying to appease a broader audience #and overall Failed in its message. and it sucked #so this was refreshing to see #maybe im giving it too much credit since i just watched that movie and had a bad taste in my mouth #BUT whatever it was good very fun movie i recommend :-)

There’s a BookTuber I’m subscribed to now and she’s so sweet. Like we have fundamentally different priorities (she didn’t immediately get a library card upon moving to a new city??? She hasn’t visited all of the indie bookstores near her, just B&N???), but she’s so cute and so happy and has such an interesting way of doing the parasocial relationships on her videos. CHARMING.

#my taste overlaps with hers on maybe (MAYBE) 1/3-1/2 of the books she’s excited about #but still.#it’s so interesting to also see the influence of pop culture and BookTok and goodreads reviews on what she reads #like it’s so fascinating to me that a book can’t just sound interesting to be bought on one of her bookstore blogs #it has to be interesting AND a recommendation #or interesting AND have good goodreads reviews #the first one: fair #the second one idk! maybe it’s just the books I read or my own taste #but a lot of the time I just don’t like the books that a lot of people adore on goodreads #also I can very much relate to her thought process that she talks about while discussing her haul #of when she buys multiple books by a new author (or is tempted to)#‘nope let’s read ONE and see if we like it first’#or wanting to be a well-rounded reader so reading books that are popular but out of your comfort zone #or like a good library has the classics #side note: why are the B&N signature classics so BEAUTIFUL now #BACK IN MY DAY THEY LOOKED REALLY BORING #the sameness was definitely good for branding but GAH #anyway. it’s a shame I’m trying to set my sleep schedule to rights #because it means I can’t scare myself by reading horror and then soothe myself with tv #unfortunate.
