The two betrothed first meet when Aemond is 15 and Lyarra is 20 and very quickly agree to be allies against this marriage even if they’re forced to go through with it. They wed when Aemond is 16 but don’t consummate or even pretend to, instead living separate lives and slowly becoming friends as they find out how much they really have in common. Eventually they earnestly fall in love and decide to have a true marriage, having both Northern and Valyrian wedding ceremony to mark what they considered the actual start of the marriage since neither actually followed the Faith of the Seven. She and Amelia have been friends their whole lives, making her an obvious choice for one of the princesses most trusted assistants.
