Warning: Readers may find some of the details below distressing. There was always his family. When he was bullied at school, and beaten, they were there to embrace him when he came home. And when the war started and he was terrorised by the sound of bombs falling, someone always said things were going to be ok. Muhammed was heavy and found movement difficult. He spent his days sitting in an armchair. If he needed anything, there was a niece or nephew to help. Muhammed Bhar was 24 and had Down’s syndrome and autism. His mother, Nabila Bhar, 70, told the BBC: “He didn’t know how to eat, drink, or change his clothes. I’m the one who changed his nappies. I’m the one who fed him. He didn’t know how to do anything by himself.” On 27 June the war came back to the Bhar family’s neighbourhood and Muhammed’s small world shrank further. Along with other residents of Shejaiya, east of Gaza City centre, the Bhars were given orders to evacuate by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF was advancing into Shejaiya in pursuit of Hamas fighters fighting from tunnels and houses. But the Bhars were tired of moving. In a weary tone, Nabila, who is a widow, reeled off the names of relatives’ homes where they’d sought shelter. “We evacuated around 15 times. We would go to Jibreel's place, but then there would be bombing at Jibreel's place. We would go to Haydar Square, but then there would be bombing at Haydar Square. We would go to Rimal, but then there would be bombing at Rimal. We would go to Shawa Square, but there would be bombing at Shawa Square.”

i honestly think one thing gentile non-palestinian leftists need to do urgently is eradicate the idea from your mind that zionism is somehow good for jewish people. we pay lip service to the fact that antizionism isn't antisemitism, that jewish people aren't inherently associated with the state of israel, even that israel doesn't keep jews safe; yet the subtle implication that jews ultimately benefit from zionism creeps into our arguments.
zionism has fostered fundamentalism and pushed jewish communities globally to the right, marginalised and outright erased disaporic cultures, and has contributed to the near-disappearance of entire judaic languages. the zionist project exacerbates antisemitism and then warps discussions of it, encouraging the same dual-loyalty myths and racialised categorisation that were popular in nazi germany. it courts antisemitic christian fundamentalists who fund it because of their apocalyptic beliefs which ultimately involve the annihilation or conversion of all jews, and provides a smokescreen for antisemites who want to push jews from their own countries. and it isolates, incriminates, silences, and arrests the many, many jews who speak out against it.
i don't say this to try and decentre palestinian suffering at this time, hence why this isn't directed at palestinians, but i think it's incredibly important for the integrity of our arguments to recognise unequivocally that zionism is not beneficial to jewish people either.

JUNE 24 2024- Zvi Sukkot, Member of Knesset from the Religious Zionist party, states: "and this is just the beginning" in response to an article estimating that 200,000 Palestinians have been expelled from the Gaza strip.
Zvi Sukkot was a former representative of the far-right terror group known as "The Revolt", which was responsible for the Duma arson attack which murdered a Palestinian family of three, including 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh. Between the founding of the group in 2013, and the Duma arson attack, the group was responsible for 11 other arson attacks and remains active to this day.
Sukkot was arrested numerous times, once even on suspicion of an arson attack on a mosque in northern West Bank, though he received no charges for it. Sukkot was not drafted into the IDF, which declared him “unsuitable” for military service.
In 2012, Sukkot was expelled from the West Bank under suspicion that he was part of a group of 12 that had planned and carried out violent attacks against Palestinians and their property.
Despite his violent criminal terrorist past, on November 1st 2023, Sukkot was appointed head of the Knesset West Bank subcommittee.

“ ... If Trump was, well, reckless, Biden is an accomplice.  As for the Arab regimes which congratulated Netanyahu for his victory, I can’t quite find an appropriate word.
But make no mistake, the problem of fascism in Israel lies less with the extremist parties that will be part of the next government and more with their enablers – Netanyahu and his chauvinistic Likud party which long strove for a Jewish state dominating both sides of the Jordan River. ...”

The origins of the Israeli colonization of Palestine are twofold: the Zionist ambition for a Jewish homeland—only settling on the Levant after many other countries had been considered—and European antisemites wishing to "rid" their countries of the "perfidious Jewish people." Europe—especially the UK—is as much to blame for the atrocities against the Palestinian peoples as the Israeli ultranationalists carrying them out. As it stands, Israel is little more than an outpost for Western imperialism to further exploit a region already devastated by it.

And if you were wondering if this dehumanizing attitude is limited to Israeli soldiers, think again.
Israeli society is built on rape culture.
