Sick and TIRED of people claiming Ekko loved Alternate Universe Powder and not main universe Jinx. Throughout the series Ekko has continuously proven that he cares for Jinx dearly, through both canon actions and deleted scenes we know that Ekko cares deeply for Jinx.
Within the AU we're able to see an emotionally available Powder who was able to have a stable support system alongside a flourishing relationship. Which shows that Powder, Jinx, is fully able to be a good person. A normal human girl. Ekko is finally able to see this, that Powder is only so happy because she's lived so peacefully. He's always had a crush on her, it's lingering and it's never gone away. During the bridge scene, and Jinx's debut, we notice that Ekko freezes up both times when seeing jinx face to face. That she's able to draw out strong and violent reactions out of him that aren't exactly rational.
Usually people aren't able to do that to him, he's confrontational and stern because he's the Firelight leader, but we notice that most all of his decisions so far have been well thought out and responsible. In s1e4 we see him look at his stopwatch, see he has little time left before their crystals break, and he STILL goes to pursue Jinx. This is probably because he still harnesses strong feelings of hate towards Jinx, shock and frustration overwhelm him. Because it's Jinx who's done this, one of Silco's goons, but most importantly his childhood friend who's become so twisted. Scar is forced to grab Ekko and stop him before he goes too far, which shows off that Jinx does cause an especially strong emotional response for multiple reasons.
But the bridge scene shows that Ekko still does see the girls he's loved inside of Jinx. He hits her twice, neither time's does he get a good look at her face. But as he's winding up to hit her a third time, he pauses, he looks at her desperate face and he see's nothing more but an innocent girl. Which is why he stops, he still bears affection for her, clearly. The rest of the bridge scene is intimate enough but if I do have to mention anything, people who don't bear feelings for each other don't smirk at the other person like that.
When Ekko finds himself in the AU he's able to see Jinx/Powder in her most healthy form, finding ways of mourning and coping considered healthy. He see's pieces of Jinx inside of this Powder, her potential and what she could be. That's not something you do with someone you don't bear affection for. You don't look at the seemingly perfect version of someone and say that there's something missing; something missing that only versions that have gone through hell have. Pieces of herself that can't be replaced. Ekko doesn't just love Jinx.
He loves her entirety, he loves her innovative mind able of creating the worst war weapons. He loves that she's able to push herself to limits that he couldn't dream of, because he loves her for who she is. In both universes, what we notice is that they're both artists, they're both creators. Powder doesn't discard her love for gadgetry because she didn't experience atrocities, she's still unbelievably smart, being able to help Ekko create the anomaly. Being able to follow along while not knowing anything beforehand.
Jinx is able to crack hex tech with nothing more than Viktor's notes and some tinkering, this shows that no matter what universe, Jinx/Powder is an unbelievably talented and smart girl who could do so much.
Ekko is able to recognize that with Jinx's Genius it comes madness, and he simply would rather have her be both rather than an assistant. Not saying that he wouldn't love Alt Powder, I'm just saying that Arcane Ekko wouldn't be nearly as happy with her rather than Jinx. Because with Jinx comes crazy ideas and a leadership that matches his. That's the Jinx he never fell out of love with.
Even in both of these characters, Jinx and Powder have never been different. In each universe, they never got to blossom yet they're one bud. Two sides of a coin who'd never know the other existed if not for "what if's"
Powder is what Jinx is if she was happy, soft and delicate, she still holds the potential to create extraordinary devices, yet she doesn't because she never had the need to.
Jinx is what Powder would become if she was put under tremendous stress and trauma, devoid of a support system she turns to her gadgetry and weaponry, while slowly losing the part of herself that could be soft.
They both exist in one person, and Ekko is able to see both of them, and give them what they need in order to bloom. He's able to give Jinx unconditional yet not unhealthy amounts of support, and he's able to give Powder the push to expressing herself through her inventions more harshly.
Ekko realizes that Jinx is still Powder, no matter how many times she changes her name. Us as the audience is able to realize that Jinx is still able to love for Powder, because we've seen her interact with Isha. Isha is similar to Powder which is healing for Jinx. When Jinx loses Isha, we can see that she never truly let go of Powder, that Powder was never different from Jinx. That they're simply a part of herself she never wanted to accept until she saw it from another perspective.
But Ekko doesn't know this, yet he still has continuous faith in her that she's capable of change. We see Ekko actively pursue Jinx in order for her not to kill herself, because he loves her. He cares for her deeply and he wants to redeem himself by simply being there, even if he's late. Because what Jinx has needed all along was an unconditional companion. Which is what Ekko can be.
Being the support that someone needs, unconditionally.
If that's not love then I don't know what is.

Showing Emotions: Anger
When it comes to description, showing what emotions the characters are going through rather than telling can always be a challenge. Let's say our character is angry. We have several avenues to convey that from the following list:
Dialogue and Speech
Your character may become short with people, and respond with limited, terse answers. Another type of character may become more verbose, stretching out their sentences with vocabulary they don't normally use to make a point. (If their intelligence was insulted, they could try to make themselves sounds smarter, for example).
Consider word choice (the character who says "I hate you" versus the one who chooses "I despise you"), contractions ("I will not" versus "I won't"). On the entire flip side, maybe they go quiet, hiding their anger rather than speaking.
Vocal Cues
You should also think about how a character is speaking. Clipped tones, raised voices, a hitch in their words as they get emotional, or the character that drops to a monotone to maintain control.
You can work beyond dialogue tags to bring more characterization into it. "He snapped" works, but maybe you want to be more clear with something like "his tone grew sharper with every word."
Body Language
Humans tend to do the same basic things when upset - clench fists, cross arms, turning physically away from whoever their mad at. Internally, they may feel hot or flushed, their stomach clench with tension, or their heartbeat pick up speed.
Since those internal feelings could relate to many emotions, it can be useful to create an emotional map for your character's responses. If they get flushed when angry, how does their body react when they get scared? Nervous? Excited?
Thoughts
Relaying what a person is thinking, especially if they aren't outwardly reacting or speaking, can be useful. A direct thought (conveyed with italics) or an indirect thoughts ("she thought that was suspicious, but kept it to herself") can help you flesh out how your character is feeling in the moment.
When editing, keep an eye out for phrases like he thought, she realized, they felt, etc.You can get snappier sentences by finding ways to edit these out - but don't worry about them when drafting. Whatever gets the words on the page helps!
Physical Reaction
Similar to body language, what I mean here is what people do without realizing it. Widened eyes, flared nostrils, flinching or pulling their shoulders back are all reactions people don't control and usually don't realize they're doing. A character could rub an old injury when talking about the person responsible, or wring their hands when talking about something stressful.
Your character can have particular quirks, like tilting their head when starting to get annoyed, or standing straighter when trying to make a point. These are things they're completely unaware that they do, unlike more conscious body language like chewing their nails or gesturing.

Unraveled: B&N Virtual Event Summary
There are no unraveled spoilers; since we're re-covering a period of time we've already seen, there are references to specific events in Stellarlune
Shannon Messenger was accompanied by B.B. Alston, author of Amari and the Night Brothers, who asked the questions
Enjoy! (Quil note: this might be one of the best ones, lads 👀)
Shannon has pre-release jitters. Even though she's done this so many times, she'll never not be nervous
It's a different book with a different POV. She's just as excited as she is panicked. "I contain multitudes!"
Why is this 9.5 instead of 10? Why a Keefe book? Is this part of a bigger story or just a fun bonus? It's a little of both. Keefe fans are gonna love a whole book about him, but Shannon never would have taken attention away from the main story if it wasn't essential for the series, since everyone's anxious for book 10.
Be patient! She's never written a 10 book series before. She's "trying to build a bridge while crossing it."
Keefe wasn't just eating human food having fun, though Shannon would've written 800 pages of snacking if she could.
What he got up to Shannon planned/outlined that it would all come out in book 9 when he was back, but, "No, Keefe is not ready to share these secrets. There's reasons why he's gonna keep this hidden."
"That's a problem for future Shannon!"
But then everything future Shannon tried with book 10 didn't quite work. This is Keefe's story, and KOTLC is limited to Sophie.
In order for Sophie to know, Keefe would have to sit down and talk it out with everyone, and he wasn't quite ready to do that when Shannon needed him to.
So, special 9.5! So we can live that time with Keefe, see what he does, where he goes, who he meets, what he uncovers.
This way readers will be much more familiar with it when we get to all that in book 10--for the first time ever, readers will actually know more than Sophie!
Shannon confirms we're getting Keefe's middle name--she debated with herself, thought about keeping that secret forever, but she wants there to be big pay-offs in Unraveled. And what book could be more perfect for this?
Was it hard to write from Keefe's POV? Usually his voice comes super easily, so Shannon was expecting it to be word-vomit. But throughout the book and especially at the beginning, he's not himself. Everything he's been through has changed him, made him afraid of himself, more quiet and reserved. How does she balance making this interesting when her jokester character won't talk!
It was interesting diving into his head to see where he's at and why he's acting different. And it was interesting flipping it--Sophie's a fish out of water in the Lost Cities, but this time Keefe's the fish!
She had to keep reminding herself all this stuff familiar to her is new to him. "Flaming Hot Cheetos??? Is that food...????"
How has Keefe changed the most since book 1? In some ways he's lost his confidence. He's discovered a lot that's made him question if he's good, if he's causing problems, if he's putting people at risk. In his head he's not nearly as much the casual, lighthearted guy he seems.
He's also matured. He really had to step up and say, "Okay, it's time to take action. I can't just goof around. I've got the fate of the world on my shoulders in some way too." He's also trying to protect his friends and feels very personally responsible. His burden is a lot heavier than it used to be.
What's his favorite part of the human world? He definitely enjoys the human pop culture. Seeing how humans depict elves, certain (not all) human foods.
Lot of fun for Shannon as a snacker, but he's vegetarian, which makes it harder. He can't have fried chicken--but not every scene is about food.
Any places Shannon knew she had to send Keefe? She prefers to write places she's been if possible; in fantasy, if you can get the real accurate, it makes the fantastical that much more believable. So she started with places she's been, but she hasn't been nearly enough to cover all this. So she included places she'd like to, places she knows other people have been so she can get details from them.
(itty bitty seriously small spoiler from Shannon) Keefe starts looking for libraries, so Shannon googled cool libraries and went down that rabbit hole.
Keefe's been crushing on Sophie since the moment they met. What's does he like the most about her? (Lot of hearts in chat). "Keefe appreciates that Sophie is such a different perspective. He really sees that she doesn’t necessarily see herself accurately, but he understands her. He can see why she’s harder on herself with her upbringing, the bad thoughts she heard. He realized she doesn’t always understand herself."
He’s also really impressed by how brave and strong she is, and how she’s willing to risk her life and do the thing when everyone's like Sophie don't do the thing! And she’s like I must do the thing! Keefe thinks, “Wow can’t stop her from doing the thing!" It'd be great if she stopped ending up in the healing center, but he appreciates her for doing it despite the consequences. Admires her for it. He really wants to be worthy of how amazing he thinks she is. (More hearts in chat)
Can we confirm Keefe's POV of the kiss? Yes! Shannon almost wasn't able to do it. Unraveled was supposed to release November 12, but then her kids, "caught every possible virus they could possibly catch." Plus, publishing takes time, so they had to move it back. Those extra days allowed her to squeeze in the bonus story and she had a lot of fun writing it.
She knew she couldn't continue the book past when he leaves the human world, but she knew readers would really want it. She understands if you skip to the end to read it first--and there shouldn't be too many spoilers if you do, but she still recommends going from the beginning.
Why did it take Sophie and Keefe so long to get to the kiss? Did you know it would be in Stellarlune or did it happen naturally? Shannon tries not to pre-plan emotional things because it makes it feel forces. As the author she's in charge of the plot, not the emotions. Every time Sophie almost dies, that's her, but how Sophie feels about almost dying is all Sophie.
So anything emotional like this, Shannon's checking in with Sophie, and, "She really wasn't ready to see this was an option for her--she really was in the Great Foster Oblivion. She had no idea that Keefe liked her, and she wasn't the type to start developing feelings without having that piece of the puzzle. She genuinely thought Keefe was just teasing and was a flirt with everything. She didn't think it was something to take seriously."
She also had her eye on someone else for quite some time, so the story had to wait until Sophie was ready to take that step. Shannon discussed it with her editor a lot
Every week they have a zoom meeting to talk through the plot. They thought Stellarlune was probably the book for the kiss, but Shannon didn't know for sure until she got to that chapter. She's very proud of Sophie for being brave enough to take that step and bring the walls down.
The fact it took so long and tortured readers wasn't on purpose--"Torturing my readers is fun, but I wouldn't do it unnecessarily!"
It was interesting going back to write the kiss from Keefe's POV. She was worried as she did that though Sophie was ready for it now, what if Keefe wasn't? But, "then it was like oh, no, nope he’s on the same page." Keefe was screaming "FINALLY!!!" in his head.
How different is KOTLC now from how you first imagined it? The problem they're dealing with is fundamentally built into their world--it's not just an evil villain who decided to take over. "Multiple rebellions are going on because there are some fundamental injustices that have been ignored and ignored and ignored. And two groups have said enough is enough."
She always knew they'd have to reckon with this--in some ways they have, but there's more to come. But she also always leaves room for ideas to grow. Her first ideas aren't her best; they're too obvious. Now she's had a lot of time to think Keeper through.
Even still, she worries about doing it justice and, even with a plan, never knows for sure what will happen until she sits down to write it.
Shannon returned the question to B.B. He said the same thing--at a certain point as the story grows, you can really do so many more things, you have so many more villains. It builts the characters and relationships.
Shannon takes a moment to recommend B.B.'s series, Amari and the Night Brothers. She can't sing it's praise enough. "After you race through Unraveled, race through this!" There are 3 books out with 2 more to come. Maybe more.
10 books is a lot--how does Shannon do it? This is part of why she has those weekly zoom chats. But she's constantly going back to look things up, making lists of unanswered questions, listening to the audiobooks. It's all daunting. "It's all chaotic. Wonderful, glorious chaos. That's what I'm telling myself."
Readers are anxious to get back to Keefe and Fitz. How awkward would a conversation be now? Oh yeah. They've had to be around each other since all of that, but that haven't had to openly acknowledge it. But Shannon can feel the scene on the horizon and can't avoid it forever--though Keefe would love to. "Peace out!" Given Fitz's temper, Shannon fully expects there to be yelling, but sometimes he surprised her. We'll see once she gets there.
When Shannon gets too specific in outline, it sucks the life out of her story. She needs to know the rough order of the plot--this threat, then this thing, this this reveal. But the little emotional beats are more up to the characters. Talks this through with her editor too.
Can you tell us anything about book 10? Would love to be like it exists and it's coming out tomorrow! Sadly, still writing it and doesn't know the exact release date. She promises she'll get it to us as soon as she can. Obviously we left Stellarlune on a huge cliffhanger and Unraveled answers some questions but doesn't deal with it at all.
"Keefe's secrets...secrets do have a way of coming out." He can't hide them forever and it'll take something big to motivate him to come clean. "Wow, that's the most non-answer. I swear answers are coming!"
Is there any news on the movie? Earlier this year they announced Warner Brothers got the rights and Emma Watts is the producer. Currently Emma is working hard to get everything behind the scenes in a row to give the movie the best possible chance it has to get greenlit and made since it'll be so expensive.
Shannon thinks this team is one of their best shots at it happening. There's still a bit of finger crossing, but it anyone can make it work, it's Emma Watts.
Shannon is NOT writing the screen play. She's got book 10 to write, plus she doesn't think she can be objective about the changes that'd need to be made to adapt it. She's too attached. She wants to give input and suggestions, but wants something with more screenwriting expertise and distance from the story.
B.B. doesn't want to write his screenplay either--it's a totally different skill.
What's your best advice for new writers? Ooh, okay. 9 times out of 10 when a young writers asks for advice, Shannon asks "Have you written your book yet?" And the answer is no. They're just thinking about writing a book. So her advice: focus on writing! Finish that book! You can't be a writer unless you write! Then revise and revise and revise. "The work is not done when you get to the end."
When you have the best book you could possibly have, then think about next steps and publishing. But for now...write!
Shannon returned the question to B.B., who says to read widely. Read as much as you can to build up your story skills. Find what you like. As KOTLC readers, we've seen in the story how to develop characters and plots and arcs.
He also says don't put pressure on yourself. Write for the fun of writing, so even if it never goes anywhere, you still have something you're proud of.
"Once it's a job it's a job. It's different."
Shannon doesn't find books on writing helpful for her; they're procrastination. Instead she reads and asks herself what's working and why--why am I enjoying this so much?
She learned the most from books she didn't like. She asked herself why she wasn't into it--which doesn't mean there was anything wrong with it. It was personal preference, which helped her find her writing voice. She likes a lot of dialogue, a lot of humor, cliffhangers, etc.
School may ask you to read things you don't like; as a writer, take it as an opportunity to pick it apart and find out why.
How do you come up with character names? Baby name books. By the time she had to name her own kids, she was already an expert. She likes names to match the character.
Sophie was going to be named Alexandra because it means helped and defender of mankind, but it was too on the nose. She wasn't an Alex, or Alexis, or even an Alexandra
Sophie means wisdom, which is what she gives to her world. "No pressure, right?"
Fitz is from Fitzroy, which means son of the king, and his family is almost like royalty.
"Keefe means handsome. *shrugs* So. Obvious there." The book she got it from said "good-looking one" specifically.
It's the same for B.B. He likes to look at the year the character was born and what was popular, too. Amari means inner strength, and a big part of her story is learning she's more than where she's from and to believe in herself
How does it feel to write from a new POV? Would we maybe get a Fitz book? Shannon's learned to never say never. The story could throw her another curve ball, she might do a short story in his POV. If the story dictates she needs to step into anyone else's shoes, she will. "I've gotten this far by trusting the story."
Who was Shannon's favorite author/book when she was 12? Shannon grew up before the big children's media boom, she she didn't have a lot of options. She did like the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
"You have no idea how lucky you are there's so many great stories out there. Different POVs, more characters that look like more people--though still need more work on that front."
For B.B., he was a huge fan of Charlie and the Chocolate factory--but he also didn't have much to pick from.
When Shannon was around 12, she also fell out of love with reading. She had a 7th grade teacher who was very strict about reading "at your level." And she decided Shannon was at college level, so kept giving her older books like Crime and Punishment, Little Women, etc.
While Shannon appreciates the classics, they weren't what she wanted to read, and it turned it into a chore. She went from a kid who took stacks home from the library to someone who only read if it was an assignment. (Shocked faces in chat).
Shannon firmly believes in letting your kids read what they want. That doesn't mean don't encourage them to broaden their horizons, but don't take away things they love. That's how you kill someone's love of reading.
B.B. gives props to Shannon for the female main character; it's one of the reasons Amari can exists--"well Shannon did it and it worked."
Shannon's very glad Amari exists. Keeper got a lot of rejections with coded wording that made it very clear female main characters were not as marketable as boy heroes. And she wasn't an instant success--it took about 5 books to gain momentum, and a lot of that was teachers, librarians, book sellers, and the kids themselves telling their friends to read it.
Any info on the graphic novel? Part 2 is definitely coming and in the works, it just takes time. She's seen some tentative cover sketches, might see more soon, and is very excited.
Team Fitz or Team Keefe? Even though Shannon's written a whole book from Keefe's POV *she holds it up backwards, then upside down, then gets it right* and has a Keefe cutout in the corner *moves the camera so we can see him--he was gonna be in the background but it looked creepy*, she truly is Team Sophie. If she ever got a tattoo, it's say Team Sophie. But she's terrified of needles so never will.
People think they kissed so it's settled, right? "Well, the series isn't done yet. Sophie could change her mind." This goes back to what Shannon talked about with letting the characters dictate the emotions.
What first inspired Keeper? A lot of things. Hilariously, it started as a short story. Epic fail--she's what, 8,000 pages into her short story? She was working on a different book and got stuck, so decided to get to know a side character.
The side character she chose was Fitz. For some reason, she doesn't know why, the plot was he'd meet a little girl and realize she was an elf.
But "Guess what, you're an elf!" was a terrible ending and she couldn't stop thinking about it. What happened to that little girl? How could she not know she was an elf? Why would they hide her?
A few weeks later she knew "yeah, I gotta switch books." She couldn't get it out of her head, but it was daunting because she knew it would be a massive project. But that little girl would not go away.
What was the inspiration for Amari? Doing pre-med stuff is long and boring, so he was looking for something fun. He thought about Men in Black and what if there were supernatural creatures living amongst us. He was working on the world and one day Amari popped into existence.
Has Shannon ever made the Keeper recipes and what's her family's favorite? Shannon actually developed the recipes herself, which wasn't something she ever thought she'd have to do. It took a lot of baking fails, but her favorite is anything mallowmelt--but she always warns people it's SO sweet. Good, but a few bites is enough sugar for a week.
Planning any non-Keeper series? Shannon doesn't know what she'll do once she's done with KOTLC. She'll definitely keep writing because she loves telling stories, but she's so immersed in Keeper all her other ideas are on the back burner.
B.B. thanks Shannon for being so inspirational with her work and how she interacts with her fans--he learned a lot from her. Shannon says B.B.'s always one of the top people she loves to do events with.
Once again, she is begging everyone to read Amari and the Night Brothers. "Please, please, please read them! Oh and I guess read Unraveled too. *accidentally holds it upside down again*"
“Tomorrow it's out in the world. Thank you for your faith in me and I can't wait for you to learn all of Keefe's secrets. It's gonna be an adventure.”
#kotlc#kotlc unraveled#B.B. was relentless! i think he asked twice as many questions compared to any other event i've been to with shannon#and they went the entire hour. usually it ends 5-10 minutes early#the ability to talk about things in a little more specifics was also. very very nice#shannon gave more specifics than I've ever seen before#anyway. i hope you enjoy! i was typing FURIOUSLY that entire time

feels like lately i’m seeing more posts on here like “xyz character is gay, and the writers had no idea!” or “xyz show had a perfect portrayal of this topic, and the writers did it completely on accident!”and it irritates me in part because these people are making assumptions that may or may not be true, but also because it carries an attitude of superiority and arrogance that i find distasteful. i am all for championing the value of the audience’s interpretations of a text, including when those interpretations clash with the intended authorial message, but i think it can be dangerous to assume you know more about the author’s intentions than you do. making those assumptions can limit your ability to find meaning in the text, because you believe it must all be accidental. and ultimately i feel like what matters is the story and what you take from it, regardless of the author’s intent. so maybe this writer depicted a gay narrative completely on accident - but if the narrative is resonant and meaningful to you, does it really matter that it was on accident?

MAKE SOME NOISE FOR THE DESI BOYS! — featuring gojo, nanami, sukuna, toji, choso, geto content warnings: south asian & desi settings/culture/reference(s), certain non-english phrases or words have been written in italics. established relationship, more of character headcannons than x reader moments. lots of fluff and crack and very self indulgent. part one
gojo makes the most ridiculous pick-up lines that don't even make sense. “you're the gulab to my jamun.” you still tolerate him. he's raiding all the vogue india magazines you have and is critiquing every single cover as if he knows what he's doing (suprisingly he does). he hates not being the center of attention so he goes so far as to learn bollywood choreography, screeching at your cousins when they miss a step. throws a tantrum when he is dragged off the stage to make way for the next family performance. if he figures out you like paani puri, you best believe he is finishing his plate even if he is left with tears and a runny nose at the end of it. he needs to prove he's the strongest even if he keeps asking for multiple sukha puri at the end. needs to be chained under a tree during diwali because no gojo, you cannot light twenty rockets at once. begs you to take photos of him with lit sparklers or bombs in his hand. he's the only man you know who can burn milk while making kheer. he “covers it up" by adding five spoons of sugar. his excuse? “it needs to be sweet anyways!” he's also the type of guy who'd get along with literally anyone, even your bitchy grandmother from your dad's side. he loves arijit singh. he was the dude who defended kesariya's lyricism when it released. obnoxious when he plays tum hi ho super loudly during car rides, though his favorite song is raabta. can't get over deepika padukone, almost cried when you told him she's married and even has a kid now? demands om shanti om to be played during every movie night, ignoring everyone's groans of protest. unironically liked chennai express.
nanami is so insistent on cooking for your mother once that it turns into one of those “no please i insist” arguments in the middle of the kitchen. promptly solved by you ordering takeout, much to their dissapointment. sweats a ridiculous amount when he wears a kurta but insists on wearing it to every family gathering. insists on holding the edge of your saree when you’re walking down stairs because he’s terrified you’ll trip. takes rangoli competitions way too seriously. he’s that guy using rulers to make the lines perfectly even while kids scribble around him. epitome of manners. always folding his hands and touching his elders feets. naturally, he is a family favorite. loves listening to lata mangeshkar after a long day. he's one of those people who listens to retro music while drinking tea. he loves amitabh bacchan's movies. adores the family themes in k3g, but mostly watches it for amitabh's towering presence.
suguru is the designated family member to oil everyone's hair with champi. you know that little train you used to make with your grandmother, your mom and you? yea he's leading it always. bonus points if he braids it after he's done. no one's allowed to oil each other hair because “suguru's hands have magic in them.” the habit of eating with his hands grows on him and he does so even when coming back home. loves drinking fizzy drinks out of those glass bottles - those really retro ones with the plastic straw. when you're not around he's secretly practicing the lyrics to all your favorite songs and sings them with your drunk uncle(s) during karoke night.when asked how he learned, he casually says youtube. a man of manners like kento - touching his elders feet and all that jazz. your family collectively swoons over his manners and looks. loves aishwarya rai's movies, quotes devdas occassionally, and you try not to ruin his moment by giggling.
sukuna spends half of the time in your the terrace, partaking in activities that are but not limited to; air-drying the papad he made himself, shooing away anyone who tries to get close to the home-made pickle he has sealed in glass containers (with a little help from your mom), and feeding the pigeons. pigeons. he takes the last job very seriously too, and throws a hissy fit if anyone gets to him before he does. comes back home every evening with a tan that gets darker and darker by day and complains about it to you. a very good bargainer. gives the women in his family scary dog privileges when he walks behind them with all their shopping bags. your cousin brothers love him because he’s the only one who can beat them at arm wrestling. will hold your belongings when you get your mehendi done. tries not to smile when he sees you hiding his initial amongst the design. this man....he's always blasting sidhu moose wala. i don't know why, he just seems like the type of guy who does. loves nawazuddin siddiqui. gangs of wasseypur is his comfort movie. yes, comfort. also loves sacred games, quotes the scenes to scare off random people.
choso is always tasked with buying the raw materials for family functions - extra vessels, flowers, paper plates, you name it. he leaves at the ass crack of dawn and comes back at noon with enough supplies to sustain your family's next generation as well. and yes, he did bargain well. but in all honesty he didn't even need to try that hard since the whole neighborhood loves him so they always throw in freebies along with a ridiculously low rate for literally everything. the first one to ask guests if they would like to eat or drink something, already rushing to the kitchen without waiting for an answer. the golden boy of hospitality. ends up sitting with the aunties during pre-wedding functions and learning how to play the dholak. gets ridiculously good at it by the end of the evening. loves sitting on the floor with your cousins to eat thalis instead of at the dining table. he says it feels more relaxed that way. likes lighting flower pots and sparklers during diwali as opposed to other crackers, prefers watching your family burst the bigger ones. i hate to say this but he probably listens to prateek kuhaad like a basic bitch and cries over his music because it "reminds him of you." what a guy. his favorite actress is alia bhatt and outright had a breakdown when he watched raazi with you. he was put on a movie timeout for one week effective immediate after that.
toji becomes such a diva the minute he finds out about matkas. always wants his drinks to be cooled and served from it, otherwise he refuses to drink it. water from a bottle? please, that is so 2020. always walks around with an unbuttoned kurta, not that anyone is complaining. in fact, you probably understand now why every aunty always gifts him a kurta for every occasion. the designated nariyal opener during temple visits. acts smug about his skill but secretly loves being helpful. knows all the family drama and fills you in on it every night before bed. refuses to let any random guy ask you to dance. he’s the guy standing in the corner, glaring at potential suitors while casually eating jalebis. eats mirchi like chips, leaving your family absolutely stunned. earns a ton of respect from your dad. i just KNOW this man listens to yo yo honey singh during his pre-workout...stop playing. his favorite actor's probably sunny deol, because "he's literally me."

lately,
i’ve been trying to hold space for the harsh realities—the limitations, regulations—i must impose on myself. i spent the past decade unlearning what my church had taught me to be definitively “good” or definitively “bad” and, in such, unleashed a brutal and intoxicating world onto my feeble, pastel body. in said liberation was a newfound understanding that there is no place for objectivity in regards to the good, the bad—but there is, and must be, subjectivity to the good, to the bad. i soon thereafter considered myself a hedonist, indulging in the endless search for pleasure with a fixation on the pursuit of a higher fix each time, because i had believed that since i had the capacity, the ability to do all things then i must do all things. i suppose, herein i shall introduce emotional intelligence, making its entrance in stride, arm-locked, with a sense of identity. somewhere, in the place where there skin meets, warms, by their intertwining arms resides desire—futile, pulsating—escaping. this is where i find myself now: captivated by their entrance, rotten as intrusive thoughts darken the stained glass windows of the church of my mind. what ceremony is this—i dare not ask. but i am keen, and i am ruined, like never before. my veins rupture, an aneurysm of a divinity, where the “good” and the “bad” seek to tear apart each ligament of mine. in these spaces between possibility is the understanding that anything can reside within it, for the specifics do not dictate the general picture—the microaggressions do not typically overtake the one’s impression of character—but certain matter does make a knee capable of bending or in need of replacement. as such, it is within our own genetic, emotional, makeup which suggests what matter might be best for our personal functionality, ease of existence. and only, through the desire brought by contact of emotional intelligence and a sense of identity, their two independent entities and the room that is this church that is this world, that this life of a mind, do we begin to understand how exactly to piece together this body, this world, this life of self. in this process, i find myself. in this process, i find myself questioning my individuality, examining it through a lens and finding in what ways it differs to that of the general understanding, the inundation of mass media. but only in the quietude can i find myself. so i hold space for the harsh realities—the understandings crippling my adolescent-views of self, world. and i allow myself to accept—radically, theatrically, screeching in beauty and terror—that what is “good” for me is good for me, what is “bad” for me is bad for me, and neither of these standards decree a general “good” or a general “bad”. they instead eradicate judgement, eradicate fear, and invite empathy and honor to each outlook. i, still worry-minded and adolescent-angsted, wish to know how good/bad works for other people, hope that i am not the only one to feel so alienated by the way the world apparently works. but in the most minute senses: i must think of these guideposts as allergies. varying in intensity from discomfort to death, i must know the risks and remedies. i must accept that my body, my brain, might not take to 0T7 very well. even if 0T7 is commonly revered, i must instead respect my own limitations, and see them for what they are: understandings which enable me to find my own ease of existence, embrace my personal functionality at its best. it’s a long, hard-fought battle to recognize one’s own capacities and shortcomings. tis an arduous process, what most call life. and i am thankful to recognize that these specifics contribute to what makes me me, similar to the atoms, to my genetics, a glorious collision suggesting life, i get to embrace my own harsh realities. for the world is vast and we can lose ourselves within it. the self is vast and we can find our world within it.

What does Mephiles want?
So, Mephiles is my favourite Sonic villain and has been for a while now. His vibes are simply off the charts. But his schemes within schemes are generally considered overly convoluted and nonsensical, and while there's an element of the former, the latter is, in my opinion, an unfair angle.
I know Sonic 06's writing is not the best in general, but I genuinely think Mephiles is one of the best-handled parts of it. So I thought I'd break down why I think he does what he does.
1) Why didn't he just fuse with Iblis in the future/immediately kill Elise to free Iblis in the present/do X more logical and straightforward path to his ultimate goal?
I'm getting this one out of the way slightly out of order because this is another of the many examples of "Audience expects characters to be rational, logical actors who never make emotion-driven decisions."
I can sit here and make theories as to why fusing in the future doesn't work, or argue the toss over whether Elise's death is really a means of releasing Iblis, but the simple answer here is that Mephiles is not a logical actor. He is a spiteful, sadistic monster who could do things the quick and clean way... but he's a time-travelling immortal with power enough to equal the Ultimate Life Form, why not have some fun along the way?
It should also be noted that during the events of Sonic 06, Mephiles has existed as an independent entity for ten years. He spent all ten of those years trapped in a vessel roughly the size of a soda can. Your facetious "Hurr durr why doesn't he just cut onions under Elise's eyes" gotcha can be easily countered by asking "At what point in this man's very short and limited existence would he have learned about the ocular effects of chopping onions?"
2) Mephiles and Shadow: Revenge
Well firstly we need to set aside most of what he does in Shadow's story. Yes, really. The only parts of Shadow's story that are actually part of Mephiles' big plan are the following:
Trying to break or corrupt Shadow in the future.
Acquiring a Chaos Emerald so he can use it to summon the others once Iblis is free.
Shadow actually thwarts that last one, but it doesn't matter, because as we see in the Last Episode, he simply goes and gets another one once he realises that the green and yellow ones are out of play for the moment.
See, Mephiles' attempts to mess with Shadow's head have nothing to do with reforming Solaris. They're a separate, more personal agenda. Because Mephiles isn't single-mindedly focusing on reforming Solaris. He's also out for revenge.
Mephiles' interactions with Shadow are often read as him attempting to corrupt Shadow and turn him over to the dark side, but I'm not sure if that really matters all that much to Mephiles, besides as a means to an end. We see Mephiles really manipulating people in Silver's story, after all, and he has a different approach.
While manipulating Silver, Mephiles presents himself as a benevolent ally, who offers a desperate Silver a means of stopping Iblis once and for all.
Once Silver starts to question him, Mephiles is evasive, not giving Silver a straight answer but instead applying time pressure, reminding him that if he fails in his mission, Iblis' rampage will continue unabated, and implying that time is running out before Sonic triggers the end of the world.
But that's not how he approaches Shadow. Instead, upon meeting Shadow for the first time since he was sealed, Mephiles laughs his mouthless head off, shambles around like a zombie, and promises him "a one-way ticket to oblivion."
I don't think he's trying to get Shadow to join him, guys.
And sure, when Shadow confronts Mephiles in Flame Core, he does extend an offer to Shadow, trying to tempt him to turn on humanity for their future betrayal. He positions the idea of Shadow avenging himself on humanity again as a reasonable thing, as justice.
But when Shadow doesn't bite, he doesn't press it. He just shrugs it off, goes into his crystalline form, and proceeds to start trying to kill Shadow. But why try to make this offer at all?
Easy: This is before Shadow saves Sonic from Silver at Radical Train. If Shadow doesn't intervene, because he's either evil or broken, Silver kills Sonic right there while Elise is watching, helpless in the grip of Eggman's hovercraft, and she probably cries and releases Iblis a few days early.
That's why he switches focus to trying to break Shadow's spirit after this point: Any benefit he could've gotten from corrupting Shadow no longer matters.
Revealing more of Shadow's fate in the future, and everything else he does after this point, isn't about trying to turn Shadow to darkness again. It's about hurting him. That's it. He just wants to hurt Shadow, make him feel like his heroics are futile, because all those ungrateful humans will turn on him in the end anyway, even one of his closest friends will betray him, ordered to hunt down, defeat, and seal Shadow in a prison for a crime he didn't commit.
Past their encounter in Flame Core, this isn't remotely part of the Solaris plan any more, it's purely about Mephiles wanting to torment Shadow, it's revenge for what he does in Aquatic Base in the past. Shadow sealed him in the Sceptre of Darkness ten years ago, and the vast majority of their interactions are Mephiles trying to do exactly what he promised after he escaped.
And that desire for revenge rather neatly explains why he goes about targeting Silver and Elise the way he does too.
3) Mephiles and Silver: For Iblis
Despite his monstrousness, there is someone that Mephiles cares about deeply: Iblis. True, that's technically just another part of himself, but they do exist as separate entities for most of the game, and Mephiles refers to Iblis by name and as a separate entity to himself when Iblis is freed.
And this, combined with his vengefulness, neatly explains why he sends Silver after Sonic.
Because Silver fights Iblis every day. Because when he and Iblis were newly-separated and trying to escape from Aquatic Base, Silver hunted Iblis down and captured him, enabling the Duke to seal him (more on that later). Silver was the instrument of Iblis' sealing, and desperately wants to kill Iblis. What would be more ironic (and we know Mephiles has an appreciation for irony, it's literally in his first line in Shadow's story) than using Silver himself to bring about Iblis' liberation?
How does Mephiles know that Silver is responsible? Time travel, of course. Like, he had to learn where Iblis was sealed, and that crying was the key to the seal on him somehow, he almost certainly hopped back to Aquatic Base to see what went down on Silver's side of things.
That Silver is a good (if desperate) person, but Mephiles is trying to manipulate him into killing another hero only adds to the satisfaction Mephiles would get from watching this all play out.
And though Silver fails, and realises the truth, his interference with Sonic's side of the story only helps push Mephiles closer to his goal, and the third aspect of his vengeance.
4) Mephiles, the Duke, and Elise: Sins of the Father
Let's talk about everyone's favourite Sonic character, Princess Elise III.
Elise is Iblis' vessel, and is incredibly emotionally repressed, having somehow not cried since she was about seven years old, despite both of her parents being dead, the pressures of being a monarch, and the general hormone-driven emotional instability of being a teenager.
As the one thing holding Iblis' rampage back, Elise's death in the crashing Egg Carrier at the end of Sonic and Silver's trip through Kingdom Valley is the point where Iblis broke free and ruined everything. Setting aside whether her death caused it or if she shed a single tear before impact. But this isn't enough for Mephiles, apparently, and despite her being Iblis' vessel, he takes very little interest in her throughout the story... or does he?
Mephiles could take Elise's death as a W, hop over to the crash site and fuse with Iblis there. But he doesn't? Why?
Because he specifically wants to break the seal by making her cry.
This is why Silver's failures play into Mephiles' hands anyway. Because by trying to kill Sonic, Silver keeps opening the doors for Elise to get captured again, forcing Sonic to rush to her aid once more, and generally making their time together much more dramatic and emotionally-tense. This almost certainly helps get Elise, uhhhhh... let's just say attached to Sonic, meaning that when, at the beginning of the final act, Mephiles hits Sonic with the ol' "Nothin personnel kid", Elise's overstressed emotional repression finally fails and she breaks down, releasing Iblis.
But why does he want to do this? Why go through all the extra hurdles of piling more pressure on Elise until she snaps, when he could theoretically just kill her and set Iblis free, or literally just be there for her death?
You guessed it, it's revenge again. But not against Elise, against her father, using Elise as a proxy.
I think if there's anyone in the entire universe that Mephiles outright despises, it's this guy.
The Duke of Soleanna was responsible for the original Solaris Project, during which he attempted to control Solaris' power in order to give himself and his people power over time. However, it's heavily implied that the experiments weren't exactly a pleasant experience for Solaris, given that they ultimately destabilised him, resulting in him being explosively torn into two parts.
This event is the entire reason that Solaris, and his two fragments, are hostile. Before the Solaris Project, Solaris himself was a benevolent and benign entity. As the Flame of Hope, he was genuinely worshipped by the people of Soleanna, and was said to have once saved the city from a great fire, while in the form of an eagle.
Now, it's been theorised that Solaris actually caused that fire, but there's no actual evidence to suggest that beyond association with fire, and engineering a false-flag disaster to force people to worship him generally isn't in-character with what we know of Solaris pre-Project.
That said, their faith wasn't without its darker side, as prophecy foretold that one day, Solaris' wrath would be incurred, manifesting in the forms of the Flames of Disaster. And this is exactly what the Solaris Project ended up doing, driving Solaris berserk and resulting in both of his halves becoming monsters.
So for Mephiles, hatred of Duke, and Elise by proxy, would already be extremely personal. But it doesn't stop there, because the Duke is also the one to seal Iblis within Elise, putting him in the line of fire for the same reasons as Shadow and Silver.
And how better to exact a posthumous vengeance against the Duke than by emotionally breaking his beloved daughter, and in doing so, directly undoing the seal he made, in precisely the way he tried to prevent?
Mephiles' mind was probably made up on how he'd free Iblis from the moment he learned what the key to the lock was.
5) Mephiles' actual goals.
With that in mind, here's my simplified list of what Mephiles wants to achieve in 06.
Re-fuse into Solaris.
Free Iblis by emotionally devastating Elise.
In destroying Elise, achieve vengeance on the Duke by ruining his plans and tormenting his daughter.
Make Silver the one to free Iblis by killing Sonic, an ironic punishment for sealing Iblis to begin with.
Torment Shadow with the terrible future ahead of him as vengeance for sealing him to begin with (Side project).
And hell, here's a flowchart.
It's a bit small, but it should be the right size if you open it in a new tab.
So yeah, I don't think Mephiles' plan is overly convoluted. Most of his actual plan to reunite with Iblis is straightforward enough. Everything other aspect is either a contingency or a side-project, and any inefficiencies are the result of his sadistic need for vengeance on Shadow, Silver, and the Duke.

Just a note that, yes, we will see Stolas understand the deeper nuances of the lowerclass treatment, working class realities, limitations, microagressions, etc., but he's already had a lifetime of people disrespecting him both in his own home and in his own public settings. I feel like some people might be surprised how little he reacts to that at first. If anything, it will be observing the others around him and their treatment more than his own. He will probably word things in an insulting way, things like that which are old hard to kill habits, and have to learn from it definitely. I'm not saying he doesn't have problematic behaviors to unlearn because he 100% does. Living with the reality of bills and a small apartment + other working class realities will be a very big wakeup call. But at this point he's struggling with even having a will to live, and the poor treatment isn't new. There is a lot he doesn't understand, but being disrespected is something he does, even expects. He knows what it's like for everyone to consider him a punching bag; he's just lost the ability to isolate himself and re-mask when it's too much to bear. Everyone around him has always looked down on him. This has just expanded how broad 'everyone around him' is. He's not going to fight it. The divorce is the only time he's ever fought for himself, and look how that went for him.
Will the role switch cause a deeper understanding down the line? Probably yes. But I think that is going to take getting to know the other characters better and seeing their perspectives, not his own. He already knows what it's like being treated like trash because he woke up to that every morning.
Interested to see how the relationship shifts and evolves between Stolas and Blitz now that the power dynamic has drastically changed. From what we saw in Mastermind, Stolas is now lower than an imp in the eyes of society. There is no repercussion for disrespecting him outside of his friends defending him.
It's definitely gonna give Stolas an entirely new perspective. He's gone from the top to the very very bottom in the matter of minutes. He's likely gonna rapidly understand Blitz's disdain for the upper class.
On the flip side, Blitz is gonna start experiencing some form of positive notoriety and respect, even if it's only among other imps. This situation has given him everything he wants, and he's going to have to learn to be responsible with that power. There is also a chance Blitz will have a period in the beginning where he doesn't fully understand or empathize with the amount that Stolas has lost, because where Stolas is now is just where Blitz has always been.
Ultimately, i think they will come to understand each other on a deeper level due to the role switch.

Love You Teacher looks good, actually, and too many people are just jumping to conclusions.
Nowhere in the trailer does it suggest age-regression kink play, only a traumatic response exaggerated for dramatic purposes that, by all indications, inhibits the established couple’s sex life. (Let it be known, though, sexual exploration between consenting adults is chill.)
More casual age regressive tendencies is kind of the norm in relationships, and y’all y-series fans love it. There are so many edits with one part of couple acting cutesy and being taken care of by their supposed faen. ‘Baby’ is a common endearment for a reason! When we’re in relationships, we pout, we act more cutesy, more vulnerable. Love You Teacher looks to be dramatizing this element to spark conversations about balance, mental heath, and care, both for one’s self and in relationships.
This isn’t some weird romance trope that BL’s pulling from the shady corners of the internet cuz it’s kinkier than het romances. Traumatic regression that leaves one partner simple-minded to some extent has been a part of some really silly and also some really profound Western movies. You’ve got dubious films like Big with Tom Hanks or Adam Sandler’s approaches, but Elf, Thirteen Going on Thirty, or even something more indie like Lars and the Real Girl, with a young Ryan Gosling, (PDome seems to be a bit of a cinephile so I wouldn’t put it past him as a reference point) reveal the sweet sincerity that can emerge when these kinds of stories are done conscientiously.
Perth and Santa seem beautifully cast in this. Both have worked in BL for some time now (just with other companies—check out baby Perth in UWMA!) and are listed as one of three leads in Perfect 10Liners, so the accusations of them jumping the seniority queue are a bit misplaced. Even if that were the case, that point would be moot after what they delivered in the mock trailer.
Santa’s adorable energy finds great use in both the role of the ideal primary school teacher and the character’s reverted 7 year-old mental state, and it lends itself as a response to actor Barcode’s recent complaint regarding the infantilization and limited mature roles for those who are established as a uke in a partnership. I’m excited for the industry to address and push for conversations and roles that allow these actors to age. Sometimes that means letting them take on gritty characters that we might ignorantly assume are against type, but it could also acknowledge the youthful energy some of these actors and plenty of people in the world take into their adulthoods that shape their life. A kindergarten teacher is a prime example of job that attracts that kind of person!
I could not have imagined a character that used Perth’s disposition, simultaneously aloof and warm, so well. A teacher too-cool-for-school with no passion except for his partner? There’s our aloof guitar playing boy. Who must learn to roll with the punches of life and laugh at how ridiculous and precious it is? And there’s our warm cuddly teddybear.
The chemistry between the two in the trailer was eye-opening, too. They appeared spontaneous and familiar with one another, easily conveying live-in boyfriends in love. Even most of the naysayers for the show, admitted their initial excitement for the pairing’s intimacy. If the show plays well, it ought to be breakout success for both of them.
Give me ALL the Sammy. Everyday. Girl has been shining since BL day one (the og Love Sick, baby)!
The colors! This show looks lovely and lively. The primary school wall decorations. The costumes. The face paint in the trailer is so cute! Sammy’s hair color is genius! It just has so much vibrancy during a presentation when multiple dark, brooding shows were announced.
Director P’Dome has earned my trust. Peaceful Property was quirky, intricately plotted, and endlessly compassionate. I was crying almost every weak! I’m not surprised in the slightest to see him with a show like this. The premise of Love You Teacher is a bit out there, a bit provocative, and has the potential to have such a huge heart. The closest comparison tonally in GMMTV’s history I’ve seen so far is with the work TayNew did right before PP, Cherry Magic! Let me tell you about the boxes of tissues my happy tears went through for that series!
Basically, Imma be fighting tooth and nail for this show until it actually offers a reason for me to not support it. With what we received in the trailer, Love You Teacher has revealed only green flags, gold star stickers, and A pluses!

Gravity Falls: For Your Own Good, Ch.20
Summary: A few years after moving to Gravity Falls and having his lab built, Stanford Pines happens upon his estranged twin brother, Stanley. He mentally prepared himself to be suffocated by his brothers neediness all over again - what he wasn't prepared for was Stanley walking right past him like he didn't even notice him.
Rating: M for language, violence, and adult implications
Preface: Dialogue only, but some actions will be annotated for clarity. Cross-Posted on AO3 Here.
Believe it or not a large section of this chapter was actually one of the first things I wrote for this story, it was written out before the first chapter actually and I’ve been really excited to show it. This chapter is super long and has shifting perspectives.
This chapter also mirrors Ch.10. This is a long chapter.
First - Prev - Next
WARNING: T/W implications of past sexual assault. Implied past torture. Character death.
CH.20
“So you’re gonna show me that super off-limits study room?”
“Yes. I only ask that you keep an open mind, and please do not judge me.”
“Alright PhD, I’ll only judge you the normal amount.”
“Come inside.”
“-Woah- ahhh. You really like …Triangles, huh?”
“Stanley, you’re shaking.”
“It uh, it kinda makes me uncomfortable, not gonna to lie. Are you in a cult?”
“No. Come here, follow me to the mat in the center.”
“Okay…”
“Now, what do you think of this? Does it remind you of anything?”
“A newspaper clipping? Uh… That’s a pretty messed up car- oh, wait, yeah it does remind me of something.”
“What does it remind you of?”
“I used to have a car just like that. A red El Diablo.”
“And what happened to it?”
“...I don’t remember, actually. I’m trying to remember but it just makes my brain feel like it's on fire.”
“How did I not see this before…?”
“See what?”
“Stanley, when you were first traveling with Sanchez, were you sick at all?”
“Oh yeah, totally sick. I had this massive chest infection. Kept knocking the air mask off when I was delirious. If Rick didn’t constantly shoot me up with weird sci-fi drugs, it probably woulda killed me.”
“Don’t say things like that.”
“Where’re these questions coming from Doc?”
“I’ll explain soon, but I need to show you something else. Sit down on the floor.”
“Okay…?”
“I’m going to sit back-to-back with you. I need you to fall asleep.”
“You want me to… sleep?”
“Yes.”
“Doc, you know I got problems sleeping.”
“I doubt it will be a problem this time. I’m going to meditate, but I need you to sleep.”
“You’re not setting me up for some ritual sacrifice, right?”
“Do you trust me?”
“...”
“You don’t have to answer that. Either meditate or sleep, whichever comes first. But I’m going to meditate.”
“...Alright. But if you cut my heart out and sacrifice it to the math gods or whatever, I’m haunting you.”
(...)
“Stanley.”
“Huh? Where are we?”
“The dreamscape. Specifically, we are in your dreamscape. You could also call it the mindscape. It’s a metaphysical representation of your mind.”
“You can beam yourself into people's minds?”
“Within limitations, yes. If I were to do so when the person is awake, I could only access their surface thoughts and memories. If the person were asleep, I could go a bit deeper and see their dreams, but I wouldn’t be able to easily traverse, and some deeper, more unconscious memories can’t be accessed.”
“So… Ya brought me here? What for?”
“We can access your mind deeper. But I need your permission to do so.”
“You can un-bury all of my lost memories?”
“Yes, but I don’t want to force it. I want to help you… but I know this is painful; both not knowing, and knowing. Do you want to know your real past? Even if it meant you’d have to remember why you forgot it all in the first place?”
“...Yeah. I think- hey what’s that thing coming out of your chest? Is that a rope?”
“...Yes, how did you-”
“I think I have that same thing, hold on, lemme just-”
“You’ve never been here, how would you-.”
“See, same thing. Is it supposed to do something?”
*Ford in shock suddenly grabs at the severed ends of both ropes and tries desperately to push them back together, but the ends keep repelling each other like magnets with the same charge*
“Hey doc, I don’t think you’re gonna attach ‘em like that.”
“Why isn’t it working? It’s supposed to work. It needs to-.”
“Woah! Calm down, PhD. Aren’t we here to dig up the past?”
“Right, right. We’ll get back to that. Do I want to know why your mindscape resembles a gambling lounge?”
“I spent a lot of time in a place called Lottocron Nine before I was banned from it.”
(...)
“Have you been in my mind before?”
“...Yes, during one of your sessions with Fiddleford.”
“...What kind of session?”
“An interview.”
“Oh, thank god. So ya just… broke into my mind?”
“Stanley, I understand if you are feeling-.”
“That’s really cool.”
“...What? You’re not upset?”
“Pft, I’ve broken into houses, cars, shops, warehouses; and even the Infinetentiary, twice . A persons mind though? That’s hardcore.”
“You’re being awfully candid about your multidimensional adventures with Sanchez.”
“There’s no point in hiding it now. You learned the first time you went into my mind, didn’t ya? That's how you knew who I was talking about when I mentioned Rick.”
“You’re handling this rather well.”
“Doc, we’ve both seen some crazy shit. This dreamwalking stuff isn’t even in the top ten.”
(...)
“FORRESTER!”
“Catch you on the flipside, sucker!”
“God, I hated that guy.”
“That IRS agent… What’s his name?”
“Agent Powers, why?”
“Just putting a name to a face.”
(...)
“I don’t like remembering this.”
“Tell us where your boss is hiding, and maybe we’ll spare that ugly mug of yours.”
“You think anything you do is gonna be worse than what Jimmy will do to me if I rat her out? I’ll take my chances with your sleazy ass.”
“This ‘Jimmy’ is female?”
“Yeah. Jimmy Snakes is just a street name. Other bikers wouldn’t take her seriously if they knew from the bat she was a chick. Her real last name is Jiménez.”
“But the J is pronounced as a-”
“Yeah, but guess how everyone who doesn’t speak Spanish tries to pronounce it when they read it?”
“Tough talk, Alcatraz. But everyone's got a limit.”
*the gangster takes the lit cigarette out of his mouth and brings it closer to Stan*
“Yeah, we don’t needa see this.”
*the memory suddenly blacks out but a sizzling noise is still heard*
(...)
“Stanley, this is a pit memory. These are memories your unconscious mind has been hiding from you.”
“Do we just, ya know, jump in?”
“Yes. In a way, it is like the bottomless pit, we would fall back right where we started, or your mental defenses could forcefully-.”
“Screw that, I’m imagining stairs.”
“You can’t just imagine -”
“Violá. Stairs.”
“...”
“What? This is my mind, anything I can imagine should be possible, right?”
“It should not be this easy for you. It takes months of rigorous meditation to-.”
“Maybe it woulda been easier for you to control what's in your head if it wasn’t so far up your ass all the time.”
(...)
“I don’t remember this.”
“It’s the science fair incident I told you about.”
“This is all your fault, ya dumb machine!”
“And now you’re about to-...”
“Oh no. Oh no, no, what did I do?”
“Man, did I fuck up or what?”
“There. Alright. Good as new. Probably.”
“...Stanley. You- you didn’t ruin my machine on purpose?”
“I don’t see you anywhere, but it looks like it.”
“You only hit the table …”
“Does it matter? The results are the same.”
"Stanley, I haven't been honest with you about this incident. After this, yes we fell out, but our father overheard and-."
"And he kicked me out? Yeah, I know."
"You know?"
"Yeah... I think I always did. Just didn't wanna."
"But... I lied to you about it. I told you that you chose to leave."
"Dude. All I fuckin do is lie. I'm not feeling like being a hypocrite today."
"You're not mad at me? I turned my back on you!"
"Get in line, PhD. Rico outed me to the Aryan Brotherhood. Rick cheated on me with an Alien Hivemind. Jimmy chased me for fifty miles on the interstate on a flaming motorcycle trying to drag out my soul with bottles and chains. You got tired of my shit and told me to buzz off? Big deal!"
"I ruined your life..."
"I ruined my own life. It's kinda my thing, ya know."
(...)
“No- no. Oh, no. We can’t stay here, we need to leave.”
“This looks like the homeless shelter from Glass Shard Beach.”
“Hey- sir? Can ya help me with something?"
"Watcha need, kid?"
"I haven't been to one of these places before and its kinda-"
'Scary - no, I can't say that out loud. He'll think I'm being a baby.'
"It's kinda new to me. I heard there were phones here that don't charge ya?"
'I wanna call ma...'
"There sure is, just follow me."
"We need to leave."
"Stanley, what-?"
"We need to leave we can't stay here we need to-"
"This isn't- wait, what're ya d-? Hey!”
“Brats like you are too damn easy.”
“Back off you piece a-!”
WACK
“Why isn’t this memory blacking out, I’m trying to end it-.”
“Get offa me! Stop!”
“I don’t wanna remember this.”
“Stanley, I’m so sorry. I had no idea-.”
“Cry all you want, it won't help you.”
*the memory blacks out*
(...)
“...Do you want to talk about it?”
“ No. ”
“Okay. I won’t make you.”
“I think this pit over here is the one that… ya know, made me forget everything.”
“You are sure it’s this one?”
“There’s a giant neon sign over there that says ‘Do Not Enter: Everything is Worse’.”
“How considerate of your subconscious.”
“…I don’t think I can go any further. Go on without me.”
“Stanley-.”
“Stanford. I’m giving you permission to see that memory, whatever it is. I’m not going to kick you out of it. Just tell me what you saw after you get out, and we’ll go from there.”
“You are okay with that? Are you sure?”
“You asked me outside if I trusted ya. Here’s your answer.”
(...)
‘Moses, the fog’s getting pretty bad… can’t see shit’
‘Ain’t safe with all the curves ahead’
‘I should take a stop soon and wait for it to clear’
‘Huh? What’s up with my breaks?’
‘WHY ISN’T IT WORKING? WHY?’
‘He didn’t! That son of a-’
SCREECH
CRASH
Fwooosh!
‘Fuck! I gotta stay calm- I’ve gotten out of worse’
‘Ugh the smokes getting really thick-.’
‘Why isn’t the seat belt unbuckling? I don’t have a lotta time here.’
‘Where’s my strap cutter? Why isn’t it-!’
‘I’m really lightheaded…’
‘Can’t-’.
‘It’s too hot-.’
‘I’m trapped.’
‘I-I can’t breathe.’
*Stan reaches up and pulls the picture of himself and Ford, which is on fire, off of the sun visor. It burns up into ash within his hands, which then start shaking*
"That was all I had... Now I have nothing. And I have nobody... I'm… alone."
‘I'm alone…’
‘I'm alone.’
*the memory suddenly blacks up, and then the scene changes and he’s looking at Rick Sanchez as he lies on the floor of his space cruiser. Ricks words are muffled at first*
'Where am I?'
'Who's this guy?'
'He tased me? Is this a cop?'
'Why was I in the woods?'
'Catatonic...?'
“This isn’t going anywhere. Can you tell me your name?”
'I'm alone'
“It’s…? I... 'm alone . Wait. It’s- Stan.”
“Stan Malone huh? My name’s Rick Sanchez.”
(...)
“I do not understand… I suspected the car accident was the catalyst, but how did he escape? Did Sanchez rescue him and lie about it? What would he gain from that?”
“Nope!”
“Bill?”
“You know you can’t go anywhere without me, Fordsy.”
“Why did you wait until now to show yourself?”
“Dramatic entrance, of course!”
“...Right. Why doesn’t Stanley remember escaping his burning car?
“Because he didn’t. He died of smoke inhalation right there.”
“... What ?”
“Yeah. He died. Ironically, of suffocation. Isn’t that hilarious, Sixer? He used to suffocate you, and that ended up being the thing that killed him.”
“CIPHER! Whatever cruel joke you are trying to-.”
“Joke? I’m hurt Fordsy, I know when to be serious.”
“He didn’t die! We are in his mindscape! He’s asleep right behind me in the waking world!”
“Oh, Sixer… Your mommy was right when she said denial like this isn’t healthy.”
“STOP PLAYING THESE GAMES WITH ME BILL CIPHER.”
“Alright, alright. Here, let me give you a sneak peak of what happened between the scenes; he doesn’t remember, because it happened in his mindscape. So here’s my memory of what happened.”
“Your-?”
SNAP
(...)
“Hey there slick! Things getting too hot to handle?”
“What are you supposed to be?”
“Call me a guardian angel.”
“Are all angels as geometric as you?”
“I took a form that would be comforting to you. I’m the symbol on the back of the money, you like money right?”
“Yeah.”
“Well there we go! I’m here to help you.”
“... Why?”
“I’m a friend of a friend. And that friend would very much hate it if you burnt to death here. Shake my hand and I can get you out.”
“What’s in it for you?”
“Like I said, friend of a friend. Just shake my hand. I’ll have temporary use of your body, and you’ll get to live.”
“I’d sooner chew up and spit out a gold chain before I fall for some Faustian bargain. No ones ever been nice to me in my entire life; there’s no reason my death would be any different. Leave me alone.”
“What about your family?”
“They won’t be surprised, there’s no way they didn’t see something like this coming. I’m surprised I lasted this long.”
“What about your brother? Your twin? You’re two halves of a whole - are you really going to leave him to live the rest of his life incomplete?”
“I’m the incomplete one, I failed by myself. But he can stand on his own.”
“Don’t you realize this will devastate him?”
“... I know it will.”
“Then why aren’t you taking this deal? Fordsy isn’t going to get over this. I know everything about him, and I’m telling you he never will. This will haunt him the rest of his natural life. The same way it would haunt you if he died.”
“If you’re such a Stanford expert, would he ever think I’d take a deathbed deal with a floating triangle in a top hat and fake eyelashes?”
“The eyelashes were a low blow. But, I’ll give it to you, slick; he does know you would never fall for flattery and trickery. But he’d also agonize why you’d give up like this.”
“There’s giving up, and there’s acceptance. Every decision I’ve ever made has led up to this. And most of them were the wrong ones. The consequences have caught up to me, and there’s nowhere to run anymore.”
“You’re choosing now of all times to accept the consequences of your actions?”
“Might as well, it’s the last chance I can.”
“You are going to die here. Stanley Romanoff Pines, if you don’t take a deal with me in the next minute you will die.”
“Guess I get one whole minute to reflect on everything huh?”
“And what would you reflect on?”
“If you’re really friends with my brother… if he ever asks about me for some reason, could you tell him that I love him?”
*a rope suddenly appears, with one end fading into Stanley’s chest. The other end appears to fade off into the distance*
“What’s this supposed to be?”
“Your twin bond with Sixer.”
“That’s a real thing, no shit?”
“Yes. It’s how I found you, actually. IQ was getting this sinking feeling of dread and didn’t know why, so I just followed it without telling him.”
“Does that mean he’ll feel it when-.”
“Yes.”
*Stanley looks at the rope before grabbing it with both hands, and pulling it in opposite directions until it’s broken into two*
“He doesn’t need to know what dying feels like.”
“...He doesn’t want you dead. He never hated you.”
“I know. But he doesn’t need to worry about supporting all of this dead weight. Ha! Get it? Dead weight! …Dead weight? It’s funny because I’m about to be dea-”
(...)
“-and he died exactly how he lived; making stupid jokes that no one but him finds funny- except for you, I can see even though you’re crying, you’re also trying really hard not to laugh .”
*Ford covers his face with his hands in grief*
“...That was a good one…”
“I waited for his heart to stop before I could take over - I can possess corpses you see, and for those fleeting minutes, he counted as one. I flexed just enough of my power to drag him out of his car - had to wait for that stuck seat belt to burn enough to rip - but all of that activity re-started his heart and brought him back, kicking me out of his body.
I had enough time to change some things - kept enough oxygen in his blood supply to prevent brain damage, deleted his fear of heights so he could climb out of the ravine, and rewired his optic nerves so he didn’t need glasses anymore - he wasn’t going to get any for himself anytime soon, he won’t need them until he gets cataracts at fifty-seven.
Anyways, that’s the real reason he was immune to that green cryptid; his worst nightmare was dying alone, and he already went through that.”
“...Why didn’t you tell me any of this?”
“You didn’t ask. Not me. Not anyone. Not even yourself.”
“...”
“You always pushed your thoughts of him into the corner of your mind, Sixer. In your journals, any mention of him you’d cross out or write in a code. I saved him because I know you care about him. I didn’t tell you what happened because you wanted him out of sight, and out of mind.”
“Bill!”
“It’s true, isn’t it? And look at that, he still made his way back to you. Either that twin bond was magnetically pulling him towards its broken half, or I left just enough of an impression on his mind that the weirdness of Gravity Falls drew him here.”
“You left an impression on my brothers mind?”
“It’s like when you crinkle paper, Sixer. You can try to smooth it out all you want, but there’s still going to be traces that something happened. There’s not pieces of me left in his mind, if that’s what you’re worried about. He didn’t make a deal with me, unlike you. He just picked up some of my tendencies. Definitely explains why he uses nicknames so much, doesn’t it?”
“This is my nightmare.”
“This is the dreamscape.”
“...Why did you repress his memories?”
“You think I did that? Sixer, he died . You don’t come back from that the same way you were before.”
“Then why would he still remember most of the last ten years of his life, but not being kicked out or his entire life before that?”
“Fordsy, you heard his last conscious thoughts, and those became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Before he passed out and then away, all he could focus on was how alone he felt. His brain did that thing all human brains tend to do; hid all the stuff that would hurt him more.”
“...No, he wouldn’t-.”
“Sixer. I know you can see the truth, you can’t hide your thoughts from me; why bother remembering himself, why bother remembering loving people when they didn’t bother to remember him, not even when he needed them the most?”
“...”
“Oh, goody, now you’re crying! Don’t worry, I know exactly what to do in situations like this. I don’t care if you don’t understand the reference, you’re not the one who’s supposed to.”
*Bill conjures up and then starts playing the worlds smallest violin*

Since you have the best takes ever: why do you like Jimmy and Tango as characters?
Oh gosh uh, I never really thought about that within their characters rather than why they’re my favorite creators.
They’re two of my favorite creators because of their silly energy and how well they bounce off of other people. I enjoy solo content a lot, but they make group content just as amazing and not overstimulating (Jimmy has done this a few times on stream where if the people he’s playing with get really loud in voice chat he’ll back off). I just really love the silly dorkiness they both bring to the table, even as much as I joke that I hate when Jimmy talks brainrot, it’s endearing. They also have some of the best and welcoming experiences with the community. Jimmy is really active with the fandom in twitter, and he always has a segment at the start of stream where he says hello to chat and reads names out. Jimmy also dedicated a portion of stream to scrolling through the reddit and reading what people have to say, compliment their art, and look at memes. Likewise, Tango is always saying hello and goodbye to people in chat when they come and go and It really feels like they actually recognize names in the community. A lot of streamers don’t read chat like that if really at all / the real big streamers tend to only read donations or recognize donators.
I obviously really like their characters because I am so infatuated with the creators themselves, but I think the main reason their characters are also my two favorites is because of their character development throughout the series.
Jimmy is bullied by almost the entire server, some of his own teammates don’t take him seriously, and they’ll go behind his back. He has a streak of dying first, but despite it he has really improved and grown. It’s not just about his placement or how many kills he has but his interactions with others. He’s really started putting his foot down and trying not to let himself be used as a verbal and physical punching bag. He’s always been a survivor and someone who does better on the defensive rather than offensive, and I’m glad we got to see him go crazy with some kills this season.
Tango is someone who sticks with what he knows. He’s never known stability, but the one thing that is constant is who he teams up with- even if it’s not in his best interest. He was playing both all sides in 3rd life, betrayed by his team in last life, and then in double life he had found someone who’s kind of like him that he could trust and actually hold on to. Then in limited life he was ready to sacrifice himself to make sure his time went to his team. He decided that, and I really think “For TIES!” was just the beginning of him putting his foot down. I think he learned to let go, not forgive or forget. He actually felt disappointed this season when he saw Bdubs was chasing him down trying to kill him. He knew from the very start that their team wasn’t a “real team”, and that it would only lead to a betrayal or “kill me if Bdubs needs it later.” He didn’t really accept what their team was, but he came to terms with what it entailed and it wasn’t even Bdubs who was going after him but Grian’s mimicking ability. I’m never getting over that moment…
There’s probably more moments and other things I could mention about their character developments, but I haven’t rewatched any of the series recently except for Double Life, so it’s been a while, and I have goldfish brain…

I absolutely love how mha handles Toshinori and him being The Symbol of Peace.
Horikoshi could've went with the very popular route, having the guy who seems like The Hero™ be secretly corrupt, using the protagonist, the whole, single entity that is responsible for corruption of society, but he didn't do it.
When you first see All Might, you see this God-like figure, worshiped by everyone, someone larger than life. You see all that, and expect him to be a superficial, shallow, asshole who does it all for fame.
And then the reveal happens and we partially see the man behind the legend. Disabled, middle-aged man who is becoming jaded and bitter by the state of the world and heroism at large. First interactions we have with Toshinori Yagi and not All Might?
He is an asshole.
Except he is not.
Looking back at the first interaction he has with Izuku, he is really not trying to be mean, he really is trying to be helpful. He saw first hand what heroism does to people. He experienced it. He knows that heroism chews you up and spits you out, even with such power like OfA. He sees this trembling boy, with stars in his eyes, worshiping him like he is a God and all he sees is yet another person disillusioned with what heroism is, so he tries to keep him safe in the only way he knows at that moment: by crushing his dreams and facing them with harsh reality.
You have to remember that at this point he doesn't know Izuku, his impression of him is only of a hero fanboy who doesn't understand the dangers of hero life. Should have he been softer? More mindful of what he is saying? Yes, of course but this first interaction is important for his characterization.
Why?
Because, we as the audience see him make a mistake.
With this, we see that he is not a God. He is a human, a man, and that is the most important part of his character.
His humanity.
From then on we move onto the training montage, where we see more and more of the man, rather than the legend. We see that he is sassy, silly, caring and a rather mediocre mentor. We see good and bad. During season one and two, we as the audience familiarize ourselves with the man behind All Might, but actually we don't see him fully yet.
We are still like Izuku in a way, we know he is a human, not a God, but there is still this level of invincibility to him, yes he has his limits but still, he is this giant figure casting shadow.
It is not until post Kamino Ward arc we realize on who exactly All Might was casting shadow.
Yes, yes, yes, I know what you are expecting me to say here, that he cast the shadow on other heroes, Izuku, students, Japan, whole world even, and he did but we will get into that in a bit.
The person which was hidden the most was Toshinori Yagi.
It's not a coincidence that not only the story got darker with "All Might" not longer being present but that we also get a lot more moments with Toshinori being vulnerable.
Only after the protective shield of All Might is gone do we really start to see AND understand Toshinori.
We see exactly why he became a hero, his complete disregard for his own self, the workaholism, the pressure he was under to keep it all together.
Then, society collapses in on itself and Toshinori is left with a gaping void in his heart knowing it was all for nothing.
Horikoshi could've had All Might be corrupt, he could've been an asshole looking for fame but instead he made him into this deeply empathetic, caring, kind, loving man who just wanted to save others.
Society's dependence on All Might wasn't Toshinori's fault. He was just one individual put on a pedestal, held to such high standards that it almost killed him. Scratch that, it would've killed him if it wasn't for Izuku.
After Shie Hassaikai Arc, you see one thing that I haven't seen done before.
You see how Toshinori was also the victim of the hero society. You see how that man sees no value in himself except for what he can do for others. He feels completely worthless and undeserving to be even alive.
He wanted to become The Symbol of Peace, yes, but society made him into their only defense with even other pros admitting they are "rusty" because of All Might.
He never wanted to be the only one but after he was put on that pedestal he had the whole world on his shoulders and he carried it for years until the world bled him dry and then discarded him.
People becoming complacent wasn't his fault, he never advocated for everything to be left to him, never bragged he was the best, never made others feel lesser, and yet everyone took him for granted and that ultimately lead to the catastrophe that was the Final War.
You know what is the worst though? That he still felt like it was his fault and he will probably forever carry that guilt with him.
But in the end, it wasn't all guilt. Yes there was the guilt for not being able to stop the war, for indirectly causing the society to become complacent, for not being able to stop his students from risking their lives, probably the guilt of thrusting the weight of the world onto Izuku's shoulders (unknowingly, but that is for another post).
Final war arc is also Toshinori's final arc and his biggest realization.
His realization that Toshinori Yagi and All Might aren't two separate entities. That it's all him. The realization that he also had in the first epilogue: quirk doesn't make the hero, it's the heart.
That's what Iron Might represents. He answers Izuku's question here and he says:
Yes, you can become a hero without a quirk.
And with that, his sclera is once again white, because he is whole and he has hope once again.
#mha analysis#you can see I started my english degree this year?#Toshinori Yagi the man you are#I get very defensive over that depressed old man#Call me Izuku Midoriya with the way I'll defend him until the day that I die#bnha all might#mha all might#all might#my hero academia toshinori#yagi toshinori#mha toshinori#bnha toshinori#bnha#mha#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#this post got away from me a few times but I think I'm getting my point across

I’m blocked by a guy who I thought I was going to be with seeing as he had me in a six month situation ship. He even ghosted me for the entire summer then popped back up like nothing happened. I’m blocked on everything; phone number, instagram. He even blocked my email lol.
Why do I still want him? Why do I still text a number knowing he won’t get it. Why do I still have space in my heart for him.
Talk sense into me
A man blocking a woman will never not be funny to me.
First of all, you’ve been a little too gracious imo
No one should have you in a 6 month situationship. What kind of place holder does that guy think you are? Disrespectful. If someone can’t see your worth they’re not good enough for you.
Ghosting you is another big no and coming back as if nothing happened? You sound like a very empathetic and caring girl, which is great but you need some limits. People can’t pop in and out of your life like they’re the main character. You are the main character.
Now why you want him is a question you need to ask yourself. Why do we want people who don’t want us? Why do we chase people who bread crumb us? Why do we need their validation? Approval?
It may be because you have some sort of wounds you haven’t addressed or even realized. You are right. You shouldn’t feel that way. I can’t give you a straight answer, but one thing that is very common and comes to mind is probably some abandonment wound. You want to feel fought for, cared for (as you should) but remember that you do not have to do anything or force anything to be worthy of love. Someone’s approval or acceptance of you doesn’t make you more or less worthy. The guy being a jerk has nothing to do with your value. But tell you what, you are not showing them how much you value yourself by continuing to allow this behavior. Don’t you see, this isn’t even about your feelings for them. You may not even have them. This is about the chase. This is just about you. So take the guy off this pedestal. He doesn’t deserve it.
You are chasing a dude you are more than likely too good for. Would your future husband do this? Is this the type of relationship you want? Is this what you consider love? I hope not 💗

Hi! If you have the time, could tell me a little about Love and Deep Space? I originally played a ton of Dress Up! Time Princess, as obsessed, and even occasionally threw a little money at it, but ditched it once the UI became too cluttered, they added a ton of things that used up massive resources, and almost all events were P2W. I keep eying LaDS but am worried it might have the same issue? Also, does it have a lot of customization/personalization options? That'd be a big selling point for me.
Oh my gosh, where do I even start! Listen I'm not a saleswoman but I'll do my best to explain. I'll put it below the cut so that people who aren't interested don't have to read. Oh and also (not that you are, but I just want to make this clear for everyone) Love and Deepspace is NOT a game for children. So don't download it for your kids lol
I haven't played any other game like LADS before so I don't know what to compare it to. It is just this very rare game that happens to check every single box of all my niches! It's a romance, it's a sci-fi/fantasy, it's got action and fighting as well as really cute mini games, its got steamy audio stories that'll make ya go WOOF, the writing is superb and the animations are STUNNING!!!! I am not kidding when I tell you the story is so well written; it makes me cry, it makes me laugh, it makes me sweat 🥵 (in a good way haha), the writers really know what they’re doing! Here are just some samples of the different things you can do in the game:
RPG Battles - Multiple fighting styles, including your choice between guns, sword, wand/staff and claymore.
Main Story - This includes written stories, animated cutscenes, character interactions and battles.
Special Events - Variations of the above ^ But limited to a small window of time so you can only participate and get rare items during that window
Lottery ("Wishes") - This is how you obtain 'memories' which you use for battling. Think of them like Pokemon cards. Some of them are extra special and will unlock dates/stories/animations for you to enjoy.
"Date Minigames" - These are cutesy things to do with your love interest like playing cards or claw machine. You can even choose whether you play the claw machine or your date does (hint: some of the guys are good at some of the machines, while others are not)
Photobooth - You can take cutesy snapshots with stock poses or you use the studio mode and make a lot of adjustments to capture the scene you want. They also have an AR mode where YOU can take a photo with him, haha!
Interact with your love interest(s) - The stronger your affinity with him, the more you can do together. This ranges from cute, animated interactions to having "conversations" with him. He'll also text and call you. You can romance all of the love interests if you want and it doesn't negatively impact your affinity with the others.
Audio stories - These are steamy vignettes starring you and your love interest. This one is for all the “Booktok girlies”!!! 🥵 Listen with headphones! 🙈
Anecdotes and other Side stories - The lore in this game is ENDLESS! If you enjoy reading, there are plenty of written stories within the game. If you don't like it, you can just skip through it to gain your reward and move on.
Dress up (limited) - As you play you'll earn different outfits, but there are also outfits you can buy. You can use real currency or in-game currency, it just depends on the outfit. You can't completely create your own ensemble but you can pair different outfits with different accessories to use in the photobooth. You can also decide what your love interest(s) wear or have him decide what he wants to wear.
LADS is free to play and doesn't have any ads. However, if you're prone to FOMO, you'll have better luck receiving items during their special events if you do make purchases. But again, you absolutely do not have to spend any money on it to play.
There is a little bit of a learning curve when it comes to the navigation of the game because there is so much to do within it, but you get the hang of it really fast. I feel like the UI is actually quite clean and organized. I’ve put a screenshot below:
The most confusing thing is the story mode; it kind of jumps around out of order because characters were added after the game's story had already started. But I personally didn't find that a dealbreaker and you can go back into the story and replay it in order any time.
The amount of storage the game will take up on your phone/tablet is a lot, but that's because the game is GORGEOUS. All the characters are fully rendered in 3D and the animations will blow your mind. I can't tell you how many times I'm playing it and I can't believe it's a mobile game. I play on "medium" resolution so my phone doesn't explode on me, but even then the quality is so good.
Customization is where the game unfortunately falls short. Though you do get to customize your protagonist, there are limitations. You can change her face, makeup, hair and voice, but during in-game fighting, dialog and cutscenes, MC will always default to a woman with long dark hair. Some players have found ways to glitch the game so that your customizations like hair style and color will appear in the “kindled” animations (you’ll know what that means when you play it), but it's not a long-term solution. We're all crossing our fingers that they'll update the game one day so the animations reflect our choices better!
There are other customizations in-game that are fun. You have a banner that you can change the appearance of and change your title. As you build a stronger connection with each of the guys, you can have them call you by unique nicknames and they'll refer to you as that moving forward (though you can change it every day). There are also elements of the game that involve you sending and receiving text messages, phone calls, and social media posts and you can customize how those look to an extent as well.
As far as the unique experience you have as a protagonist, when it comes to dialog/action choices there are only so many options you can choose from. The writers have an overall plan for MC so sometimes she'll say things that I would never want her to say, but I didn't write her so 🤷♀️ We still get more control than some games offer so I can't complain!
Personally, I do wish it was a little more inclusive than some other games out there. Right now you can only play as a woman and you can only romance the male characters. But that's what other games are for, I guess.
I don't know if this game will be your cup of tea and I know for a fact it's not for everyone, but DANG if this game wasn't made for me in every way! If you do end up playing it, I hope you enjoy it! And you can add me! My hunter’s number is: 82001322820

ok! so i know that you're not to try to motivate yourself with punishment, however: i cannot argue with the results. also, @failonade asked, and who am i to deny the people in my phone the right to make fun of me?
most of this is under a cut because i cannot imagine it will be interesting to most people, but two or three of you will think it's hilarious.
why am i using a silly wip game to organise my stuff? well. because i am, generally, not much of a writer. when i'm working on things—like, for work, etc—they always end up with a standardised name, and i take notes as needed in either a notebook or a text file entitled 'work', as the vibes suit. this is not especially descriptive, but ctl-f for keywords gets me where i need to be, and it's fine!
unfortunately. this meant that when, for the first time in nearly a decade, i considered writing something, i thought to myself, 'it's fine! just stick it in a file called fic!'
it's worth taking a moment here to tell you that one of the things i enjoy about notepad++ is that it autosaves your tabs. they're not saved saved, but when you open the program again, they're in the same state. unless something went catastrophically wrong at some point. but usually they're in the same state! i mention this only because i have a bad habit, especially with work-related things, of simply closing notepad++ and telling myself that it will preserve things for me, something that works well 99% of the time and completely loses all the information that i'd made note of the remaining 1% of the time.
and so, for a minute, i did fic notes more or less the same way i take notes for work-related things: just an unsaved text file with no real headers or organisation, and nothing to mark the transitions between projects, because i can obviously tell that by keyword.
you may, at this point, have spotted the error that i did not: if one is writing several fics about the same show, there are not, in fact, easy keywords in the text that will tell you which bits were intended with which fic.
so i again, cleverly, thought, well, the solution to this is to use more text files, obviously. simply make one for every project.
an interesting thing about living in the future is the way that everything's so connected. people move seamlessly between locations and devices and you never even notice it happening, because everything is so connected. is my friend on the train while we're talking? on her sofa? at work? quite possibly all three, and on my end, this is entirely unnoticeable.
however, i am, it turns out, also a people! but do you know what is not connected? that's right. text files, especially if you are the sort of person who simply does not believe in saving text files, and believes in your heart that if the contents disappear, it's a sign that you should just let it go.
at this point, some people might stop and think, 'are all these text files really necessary? maybe there's a better way!'
that's quitter talk, tho. what i thought was 'yeah, i mean, i'll just add bits in my notes app or in my private discord server and then paste them into the text files later!'
which is a thing you can do. but at some point you find out that discord only likes to scroll back so far, and also that your notes app has a character limit, after which it tells you to get the fuck into the docs.
which you do, because what other choice is there?
a skilled observer, someone who's good at math and counting, may at this point notice that there are now four locations involved in this process. a skilled observer, or simply someone who is smarter than i am, which is a very low bar, might think, wow, that's kind of a lot of locations you've got there, buddy! sure would be a shame if things got all nonsensically jumbled together!
i, on the other hand. i found out about ellipsus, and i thought, oh, i'm just going to try this, i'll just throw a couple things in there and see how it goes. and so i did.
here is what i did not do: stop writing in the text files. or in the notes app. or in discord. i also did not transfer everything from the text files to ellipsus, or anywhere else. i also did not transfer everything from gdocs to…anywhere.
unfortunately, at some point in the past week, i've realised that at this point, i have a truly horrifying number of versions of some files. they're not labelled or even saved, in many instances. i keep finding things that i thought i'd fully deleted, or things that i have three versions of, and they're all within a couple hundred words of each other, but the most recent scenes have nothing at all in common.
which is to say that currently, my notepad++ tab bar looks like this.
if there's a .txt in the name, it means that it was, at some point, saved. when? well. that's not my business. i am now down to twenty-two open files. some of them have literally tens of thousands of words; some of them have work-style notes about medical appointments and bills and random phone numbers; some of them have notes about fics my friends are writing; some of them have as many as two or three sentences with absolutely no further context.
one of them contains, in total, the words 'not actually dead'. that's it, that's the file. 'not actually dead'. the period is outside the quotes because it is not in the fucking file. what did i mean by that. why did i feel that it needed its own file. what the fuck does this mean. we may never know! there's certainly not gonna be any insight from this corner!
another uninteresting fact about me is that i am, in many regards, sort of a minimalist. there are three open tabs on my phone. i have never accessed ao3 except in an incognito window. my search history is empty. i feel like having a dozen tabs open is a lot of tabs. (not you, text files, you're perfect.)
however, right now, i have seven tabs open (normal! fine!), and then…i have. this.
i am sitting here, three in the morning, waiting for a storm to (please please please) roll through, picking at a fic that i'm writing and also sieving through all these goddamned files (yes, the ones in notes and gdocs, too) and consolidating.
questions you may have, at this point, because they're certainly questions that i have:
is this productive? i don't know.
will this fix me? almost certainly not.
is this a good use of my time? i honestly could not tell you; never before have i been in this position, and i don't quite know what to do with it.
will this make it slightly less likely that i have to spend between three minutes and three hours skimming files and looking for the one thing that i want to work on? possibly. hopefully. perhaps. god i hope so.
#writing#can we call this a ~process~?#that makes it sound so much better than my disastrous life choices#it just never occurred to me that i would need to be able to reference my own files#they're not my business! why would i need to know what's in them!#turns out—#echoes linger#long post#<- that's a warning

Are we ever gonna get the context for the wolf in sheeps clothing drawing? it's just been stuck in my head because it looks BEAUTIFUL and Im curious/nf
the children yearn for the pretty awesome lore
okay i'm going to try my hardest to not explain this in the most complicated way possible... the lore goes deep guys never start a roleplay friend group /lh
The most notable characters here are Noel Vincent (Vin for short) Gruber (he/she) and Misha Oleksandrovych Bachynskyi (he/him). They make up the ship "Pretty Awesome" (technically they're also dating one of the Rickies--their full ship name is Pretty Freaking Awesome (PFA). It's dumb and I love it). Here are some short descriptions for each of them--
Vin is Moni's character. He is Noel at his core, based off of RVJ's Noel, but I like to call him fucked up Noel. She likes gossip and attention. She's often referred to as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" (HE SAID THE THING!), because on the outside he portrays himself as innocent, as if a lamb, but can often be selfish and loves to cause drama for her own gain. Her lore goes much deeper than this but we are not going to get into the Vin lore right now. He's not entirely bad but he is a very flawed character.
Oleksandrovych is played by yours truly. He's basically just my personal interpretation of Misha--he's the Misha you see in TCI (however, multiverse Oleksandrovych's lore is NOT connected to TCI Oleksandrovych. TCI has separate lore. No multiverse stuff over there). I'm not going to explain his personality you know what Misha acts like.
It all starts in a roleplay server called The Zolarian Star Cluster (which I'll be referring to as 'ZSC' from now and forward). The premise of this server is pretty simple. It's a Ride the Cyclone roleplay server, it's pre-Cyclone, and there are several slots for each character. So, a multiverse of sorts! Vin and Oleksandrovych met here. Blah blah roleplay plot stuff, they're dating now. Real corny.
Move on to RPTW, another RTC roleplay server. In RPTW, there is a category called the Sandbox, where people can claim whoever, whenever, with no limits, no submissions, and no approval (for a bit of context, in ZSC you're limited to two or three canon characters, and you can't have two of the same character (e.g. two Noels), because there are limited slots for each so it's easier to manage. None of these rules apply in the Sandbox.) We started adding on some lore to the Sandbox. One important thing to note is the Deja vu phenomenon; although the lore starts over in Sandbox, if a character meets another character in the Sandbox that they knew in a separate roleplay server (ZSC or Sugar Cloud (SC)), they'll experience a sort of Deja vu, noting them and things they do as familiar.
Clearly, I'm sure you know where this is going. Misha does not like Vin in the Sandbox. Vin has constantly been very passive-aggressive towards Noel Oscar (the Noel in Oleksandrovych's choir (TCI Noel!)), and Misha is pissed off about it. Despite this, he feels... drawn to her. He tries to ignore her, but ends up responding every time (even if he's dry about it). It doesn't help that Vin feels the same sort of connection, but gives into it, flirting with and teasing Misha.
Now blend all of this together-- Vin is ill-intentioned. Misha knows this; he's seen it himself! He hated seeing her insult his friend. Vin beckons, "Ohh, mon soleil... no need to be so cold. After all, I'm just a sweet little lamb... don't you agree?" Misha is frustratingly enticed by her. Despite all of his anger... something about this lamb is just so familiar.
I also want to point out some details of this drawing that I liked. First of all, Vin's eye is supposed to look like a wolf's eye (furthering the metaphor). Second of all, if you take a look at their eyes, you'll notice the highlights in them are heart-shaped. I have decided that when two characters who were in a romantic relationship in another universe look at each other, the highlights in their eyes appear heart-shaped. (Not related to the drawing, but this is the same for close friends, except those highlights are star-shaped. Thanks Nym!)
i love my son and his evil wife-from-another-universe i need them to get on that rollercoatser right now here's them interacting in zsc vs sandbox if u even care
