The og 4 ninja, individually, are smart.

Kai is amazing at strategy, Cole is great at planning, Zane is fantastic as observing, Jay is brilliant at on the spot thinking.

They’re all good at planning and strategy and leader ships roles in their own ways, as shown in the show, and they all are amazingly smart.

But together they’re all idiots.

NEVER put them in the same room, not even Zane is free from the stupidity when they’re together. They literally mimic each other at every chance they get its the funniest shi ever

They’re like a married couple x4 except they all have individual lovers and it makes it so much more entertaining.

im glad I'm not the only one picky with names, I'm always like "no they wouldn't know what that is" etc with warrior cats. like Dragonfly sounds cool sure, but it's two words in one (it's like a double prefix to me) plus Dragon is something humans made up (unless they're a kittypet then I'm the total opposite and thrilled with the name Dragonfly as a cat)

I feel that with dragonflies! It's so hard with examples like that with no easy alternative name though; what would they call dragonflies instead? 😔

But Honestly?? I don't think it's a bad thing to be picky with names specifically.

Nothing takes me out of xenofiction worldbuilding faster than completely incomprehensible naming schemes!* E.g. a polar bear called Toucan (or an Amazon parrot named Glacier), animals named after cryptids/beings from human mythology they wouldn't know, or wild animals with really common human names: Steve the otter, Margaret the antelope, David the fairy wren... (animals named by humans being an exception).

That's also why I refuse to call any of the Machairodontids "sabertooths" in universe: that's a sword. Even if they could know what a sword was, sabres won't be invented for some ~10,000 years :'D

Lilac only escaped because of the colour! (And in hindsight I would have changed it outright.)

But it's fine because his family had a sort of "named in relation to where/ what was happening around your birth" scheme. Lilac was born in the purple of pre-dawn and probably would have taken the Holdfast name "Lilacdawn" or "Lilacsky" if not for Other Happenings in his first year of life...

*As always, obligatory disclaimer that no one has to listen to me bc I'm not an authority on things. I just personally like when names are based on things the animals in question could feasibly know and comprehend well enough to be named after!

as research for a gladiator au jaytim fic, i read all of the captive prince books in less than 72 hours. i fear that i was, in fact, the target audience for that series. and that i will need to be very careful not to accidentally write captive prince fanfic in the middle of my jaytim fanfic. OOPSIES

it's crazy how the neva flows and my petersburg happen right next to each other. juxtaposing gleb's militaristic anthem with dmitry's free spirited and spontaneous i-want song... they're both singing about their fathers and living up to their legacy, but while gleb feels trapped by his, dmitry takes the lessons for what they are and still chooses to make his own place in this world. and anya sings a verse in both songs, one not so much by choice, and another because it's an invitation to participate and be acknowledged as a figure in his story.

even the scenes leading up to their respective songs parallel one another. anya is in danger, in one scene she is alone and another she has an ally. both men are trying to convince her to trust them; she trusts one of them. both scenes result in either physical violence or the threat of something worse. anya has agency in one scene all the way through. in the other scene, she does not.

and if i said fandom on tumblr has become so obsessed with having the Most Correct understanding of a character that it’s honestly sucking the fun out of everything !!! like i get that it’s annoying when All of the fanon content about a character is wildly ooc, but some fanbases are so wide and populated that there’s no way you can’t find accurate depictions of the characters. there’s always going to be headcanons or ships or interpretations that don’t seem quite right to you, but whatttt is the point of constantly complaining about it when you could instead just focus on the content you DO like and feel is accurate. why are you spending so much time getting mad that other people aren’t playing dolls right. it doesn’t matter dude

Thinking about Helly's face when the flashing blues and greens suddenly turn red. Thinking about Milchick, alone in the bathroom, staring at himself in the red lights. Thinking about the blood staining Lorne's face as she holds Emile, no longer a sacrifice. Thinking about Mark S standing on the precipice of sacrifice, the muted reds flashing against the door to the stairwell where Gemma cries out to him. Thinking about him turning around to those strobing-red halls to Helly waiting for him. Thinking about Gemma watching him turn around and walk back into that red. Thinking about Helly's red hair.

SIMM and Dao's Love Language

I'm going to get emotional about KluenDao again because I realised something about how Kluen shows his love for Dao.

(I have a theory that) Dao's primary love language is Acts of Service:

It's the main feature of what he describes when Typhoon asks him what his "type" is.

It's how Dao shows his love for Kluen: doing Kluen's art homework for him and offering to make Kluen's mom's birthday present. It's not (just) about doing art, but specifically because it meets a need that Kluen has.

It's also how Fah and his closest friends show their love for Dao.

So lets take a look at how Kluen shows his love for Dao throughout the show:

From early in the series, Kluen consistently shows his attentiveness and care via 'food/drinks as a metaphor for love', which is also a clear example of Acts of Service because he's providing for needs Dao has in the moment.

These are also both great examples of Acts of Service as Kluen either identifies and addresses a burden that Dao has or preempts a potential source of stress and offers an alternative.

Of course I had to add these moments! Making sure Dao sleeps in a proper bed, re-doing his ankle dressing, the pen + post-it note for his anxiety, and unbuttoning his sleeve so Dao has something to focus his nervous energy on. Note that 3 out of the 4 of these Acts were without (as far as the audience sees) Dao even knowing what Kluen is doing for him.

There's a reason why I find Kluen so very attractive, and it's because Acts of Service is also my love language and damn does Kluen do an amazing job of showing his care for Dao in that way!

Kluen as a boyfriend:

As soon as they become official boyfriends Kluen is constantly finding ways to do things for Dao: walking Dao to class, carrying his stuff, feeding him -- its all very sweet. I had to delete several screenshots because of the image limit jsyk. :( Kluen really does go all out in this way.

Kluen's Acts of Service only seems to escalate in Sky in my Heart. Cooking for Dao, organising a night out for Fah because Dao is worried about Fah, nursing Dao when he's not feeling well (+ the hand feeding TuT).

The cherry on top comes in the Special Episode: Is there anything that encapsulates Acts of Service more than planning to build your boyfriend his dream home, located on the beach because he loves waking up to the sea; promising that he'll have everything he needs to pursue his love of art; even planning to plant a big tree so your boyfriend won't be too hot as he paints outside??

There's so much genuine thoughtfulness and specific consideration for what will make Dao the most happy in this plan.

It's so lovely to see Dao recognise that. He's so grateful, so overwhelmed by Kluen's love (the way you can hear the tears in Dunk's voice when he says his lines - he's such an emotive actor!), not just because it's genuine and means the world to Dao after going through the pain of thinking his love was unrequited, but also because Kluen has learned specifically how to love Dao the way he understands it the best. Kluen literally learned to use the language of love for Dao - both verbally and through his actions.

And this is why I really do think Star in My Mind is genuinely quite a beautiful love story.
