WIP - from the Descendants rewrite that's been cooking on the back burner in my brain since 2019 and was brought back to full flaming rage after the release of the latest installment:

Nights on the Isle are never quiet. They shouldn't be, for if they were, its inhabitants might as well be dead. (And - well.) (That's not possible.) No, the Isle is buzzing with life at night. Figures hide in the shadows, knives behind their backs. Children scamper between alleys looking for food, tired, hungry and thin. Drunken adults stumble on the streets looking for a way to satiate their desires, through drinks or whoever is unlucky enough to cross their way. Gangs make their moves against each other in their never-ending games, always at each other's throats. (Everyone hiding, everyone running away from something with nowhere to go.)

Until, that is, the rumours start. And they spread like wildfire. Whispers begin to travel the streets, winding through battered alleys and broken homes. The barge never makes an appearance at this time of the month. Speculative murmurs, knives sharpened and gleaming in the dim night light. On the far off horizon, barely distinguishable from the still-dark sky, a boat approaches silently. From a shabby, grimy rooftop, four shadows watch as it draws nearer.

I still think the single funniest thing about the cybertruck is that it has all those security cameras built in that are set to activate if anyone gets too close to the vehicle...and those cameras need electricity to run, and the cybertruck is a piece of shit that has way less battery life than you'd think, so you can legit just fuck over the owner by just standing near it and doing nothing else.

Like goddamn Elongated Muskrat found a way to let us siphon gas out of a car without even touching it. Fucking incredible.

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???

comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously
