has anyone thought about Iris's brain cancer as much as I have.

according to Ota, "Invincible Rainbow Arrow" was written by Iris after visiting a kid in the hospital that had cancer. I don't necessarily think that it's false, but that definitely isn't the whole truth, and learning about Iris's diagnosis really puts that song into perspective.

"revolt!/even with death impending" really feels like Iris trying to muster some resistance for herself. she's trying to live. she's trying to make her own world better. death is coming for her, but she won't make it easy.

and she doesn't tell anyone about it either. to our knowledge, the only person who knew about Iris's diagnosis before the events of the game was her mother and the doctors she saw for it. none of Iris's friends knew. Renju might have, but it's unconfirmed. Iris kept it to herself -- she didn't want to be the idol with brain cancer. she wanted to be A-set.

Iris's joy and optimism aren't false, either: they come from a very real desire to keep going, to live through every moment. if she gives up, then she's giving in to the fact that her cancer is likely going to kill her, and her mental state is half the battle.

she was told that she was probably going to die, and her response to that was to carry on. to keep going with her purpose. she started A-set by hoping against hope, and she keeps A-set going by continuing to hope against hope.

Since you're talking all your thoughts about the Love & Legends characters, what do you think of Iseul the Elven Prince?

Iseul's one of my favourite characters... outside his route. Outside his route, he's incredibly charming and one of the funniest characters in the game. He has a great dynamic with the other retainers and he comes of surprisingly wise in many scenes where conflict would otherwise escalate. I think his backstory is a fairly interesting one in terms of motivation coupled with the war, his family serve as great support in all routes, and he does come off as long-lived but still relatively young in a great subversion of the hauty elf stereotype.

Unfortunately, a lot of that charm wasn't really in his route itself? They had a lot more focus on Iseul being detached and uncaring, especially in the first seasons. While I would describe Iseul as relaxed, he's also openly loving and motivated to protect people rather than cold. It makes sense that he'd be resistant to responsibility or the thought that war could restart, but they don't adequately explain why he wouldn't tell Jinhai, a murderous war criminal he's actively fought fr years, "no" to joining him. That and making Reiner and the other retainers secondary antagonists detracts from the sense of friendship and comradery they maintain everywhere else, leaving you with the impression that Iseul's not particularly close with them. Especially Reiner. The fact he's more open and forgiving in Alain and Helena's routes than Iseul's feels... off.

I do get that the theme of Iseul's route is how he doesn't feel motivated to accept a duty or situation he had no choice in, but idk, maybe it's just early writing, because I think they play it off way better elsewhere.

between ryuki, mizuki, and [redacted], i do think the protagonist narrative of aini is sooo strong esp with the structure of the game and how its just so well constructed. BUT i also think ryuki steals some spotlight because hes just So Fun and tama is good. Its like. Theyre the new characters but theyre so great i end up loving them more. Even though i love mizuki and aiba and [redacted] too!!!! Arrghhghgh

Sometimes a family is a dumb, pathetic, addicted to pornography loser who for some fucking reason is a secret agent, his partner who's his artificial eyeball with some insane AI but in the reality she's also a dumbass, a depressed little girl with anger issues and inhumane strength he adopted, his boss who has boys band posters on walls in her office and calls them her husbands, a mad scientist who named his greatest creation, loser's eyeball, with a not a one pun but two (Aiba, AI-eyeball) who also was dating little girl's dad, little girl's best friend who's an internet idol and thinks that she's targeted by a secret society but turns out she's just dying, little girl's teacher who's idol's adopted mother and turns out to be loser's ex but they don't recognize each other because he's lost his memories and got body swapped with a serial killer who's idol's half-brother and also is responsible for her biological mother's murder and also little girl's parents murder, though they deserve it for being abusive/neglectful, and also little girl's other best friend who has a crush on an idol and his mother with dementia who never done anything wrong in her entire life and her ungrateful son doesn't deserve her.

I have a lot of big feelings for AI: Somnium Files as you can see.

I really wanna write some stuff of Iris and Haru outside of an au

Like them in the main timeline

I'm thinking about potentially just writing out a more detailed version of Haru's route and Iris' interactions with him and stuff but idk

I've also thought about the Iris Becomes A Kitsune storyline and then Iris and Haru would be established

But I also wanna do some more stuff with Iris and Fuyu, and I think a fic of her turning into a kitsune would require an end game romance

Idk idk idk my brain is Very Fried today.

Though I know I'm gonna get plenty of Fuyu and Iris content in the realms of AU fanfics

I'm still so excited about my regency era fic cause I have a plot outline that I think is just MWAH!

On that note I might wanna go through and polish up my plot outlines for all the fics I have planned-- partly so I can get back into writing them again but also I feel like I'm more confident in things when I have A Plan ya know???

one of the more emotionally damaging things when playing aitsf rhat may seem minor is like. since i attempted the annihilation route b4 the ota/mizuki routes playing the latter hurts SO BAD hearing about all the characters talking like Hey isn't it so crazy that iris and ota survived that incident iris could've been dead by now Crazy luck that they survived isn't it. like when you... take into consideration how it goes in annihilation........ or how THE REAL IRIS IS ALREADY DEAD IN THAT ROUTE........ it hurts. so bad This fucking game man

Verona: Hmm, well, I’d say quite a few things.

Verona: For starters, if I recall correctly, you guys were kinda left off with… the whole “Mari having a crush on Ray” thing. Well, to sum things up. The two eventually talked about things after baseball practice one afternoon after school. They tried going on one date to see how things would go from there and after that, Mari had told us she realized that her “crush” was her mind still kinda… relapsing from just dying and losing her still living boyfriend. But even after they talked things out, Mari and Ray are still on good terms and nothing’s awkward between them at all. Doesn’t even mess with their sports stuff.

Just found out that my entire first stab at AI The Somnium Files was going down the Annihilation Route. For the uninitiated, that's a little bit like doing a Genocide run on your first try at Undertale, but with less residual consequences. 🌺
