btw after four years i finally finished all data from my iberian-inspired fakemon region. if you even care
#i might start ybraposting again soon who knows#i also have this crave to do pixel art and actually make maps and try to make this a game but i dunno how much this crave will last tbh#i made pixelart back in the day when i was in deviantart so. it's been a while#idk let's see what happens#anyways now that i have the final product#i can say. my fake region is ybra#where pokémon rose and carnation take place (very funny that they are named after the two last canon professors)#yes i know clavell isn't a professor but you know what i mean#i believe i started working on this during gen vii so. lol#anyways. we have ybra as the main region#BUT#there will be three dlcs after you complete the main story#yes three!!! honestly there were only two until i realized i left out a big part of iberia in my original plan for ybra for some reason#and these past days i've been making a region inspired by the kitakami dlc hehe#anyways onto the three dlcs. they are.#1) the glory of ossana. this takes you to ossana. based on southern france aka occitania aka whatever is between kalos and ybra#you have 5 gyms to beat here all thematic (for example there's one specialized on starters and the last one is specialized on legendaries)#of course being next to kalos there'll be references to it. the pokedex has pokemon both from ybra and kalos. and you'll get a new rival#for this region: serena - champion of kalos#also after beating the gym leaders you might get to battle a certain giant man that's 3000+ years old#2) the islands of the muses. this wouldn't make sense if you don't know the main story of the games. but basically throughout the game#you encounter these girls call the muses that protect the access to this dangerous evil pokemon#well. in this dlc you'll visit the homeland#based on the canary islands. each muse has an island associated to them (kinda. cause there's 7 islands)#there's also a mythical pokemon encountered in each territory of the muse and a mini storyline dedicated to it#also these islands are open world!!! and each island has its own pokedex#after beating all the muses and completing all their quests you'll be able to fight mnemosyne their mother and (spoiler) previous champion#3) (the new one!!!!) mysteries of lurmamua. you'll travel to this secluded land called lurmamua based on euskal herria when these mysteries#have been happening just as the region is preparing for an international film festival that is sure to attract tons of celebrities#from all over the world!!!

it is so weird in retrospect that they make all these medical drama shows and they're all about fucking interns, like why is that. is it just cuz they're presumably younger and hotter and more volatile? but then there are so many moments where they want to emphasize the Medical Drama rather than the interpersonal drama and it's like, none of these people are qualified to do any of this. these are little infant babies. at least on house they're actual attendings.
#weren't they even interns on scrubs?#like they are having these years-long arcs in like. 2-month positions.#ridiculous.#like these bitches are gonna be assigned to a different service next month and you can so easily not see them At All like what is your deal#I looked it up to make sure house actually was about attendings (it is)#and apparently the working title was 'chasing zebras - circling the drain'#which is a direct reference to a phrase the chronic illness community Fucking Despises#but it's referencing it in a way that like. implicitly takes our side?#cuz yknow house is all like obscure diagnoses#and the phrase is 'if you hear hoofbeats think horses not zebras'#which drives us fucking nuts because yeah sure assume the most likely first BUT#you've got the ability to access more than one datapoint you fucking child#try opening your goddamn eyes before you go 'yep it's a horse get out of my office'#eds folks in particular have taken up the moniker of zebras#but it's fascinating that they directly acknowledge that phrase in the working title#considering that house started airing in 2004

Tfw you make a whole new love interest for Athy because you dislike both of the canon ones
#both of them have similar flaws at different levels#no hobbies#no interests#no meaningful relationships nor the desire for any outside of her#they care but only at surface level and don’t care at a deeper empathetic level#like hey I like you but I actually don’t think I know what I like about you#and my care for you is explicitly more like I care for your attention#and I don’t really care about what you love#I only care about what you love if it affects you because if something happens to you your attention is also gone#I also don’t actually know that much about you#even though they’ve both spent different amounts of time with her#they don’t actually know nor understand Athy emotionally nor has Athy actually opened up about a lot of things#like the closest she’s opened up in her whole third life was to Jennette and that’s depressing#Ijekiel has seen a lot of her lonely and sad side but doesn’t know her internally or at a deeper level#Lucas has spent the most time with her but doesn’t understand her feelings completely at all nor does he understand her reasons and drive#nor does he really care about them as long as she’s alive#which applies to them both#also both would kinda suck politically and foreign affairs-wise speaking#Lucas would suck at foreign affairs because I physically cannot see him understanding or caring enough about others#he can fake kindness but he can’t fake understanding#and understanding is key for foreign affairs#Ijekiel would be better and his foreign Arlanta knowledge would help#but also#his social skills aren’t that much better than Lucas’#there are too many cons for both of them that could outweigh the pros#and plus the pros Athy can easily access as friends anyway#I am a strong advocate for single Empress Athy or marrying a completely different and qualified person she meets in adulthood#like what happened to the flowery boy and lone wolf or literally any other noble in Obelia that’s around her age#or even foreign nobles#syl tea

(Note: See updated post) The new DRAFT U.N. Resolution, set to be voted on today, calls for:
• ... “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses” in the fighting throughout Gaza and the opening of corridors inside the enclave “for a sufficient number of days to enable full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access.” • U.N. Secretary General António Guterres to appoint a senior coordinator “with responsibility for facilitating, coordinating, monitoring, and verifying in Gaza, as appropriate, the humanitarian nature” of all assistance, and demands that “the parties to the conflict cooperate with the coordinator to fulfill their mandate without delay or obstruction.” • ... “immediate and unconditional” release of the hostages. It also demands that “all parties to the conflict comply with their obligations under international law ... including with regard to the conduct of hostilities and the protection of civilians and civilian objects.” • It reiterates the council’s “unwavering commitment” to a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians and “stresses the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority.” (12/22/23 | Source: WaPo)
Although the resolution's language was toned down, this is a sign of progress. While such measures are long overdue and should have been honored from the start, we must do everything possible to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and relieve unfathomable suffering.
DON'T STOP POSTING. KEEP UP THE PUBLIC PRESSURE. DEFEND HUMAN RIGHTS.
Stay tuned for today's vote.

Echoes
A “poem.” 9/6/23, just after midnight on my 24th birthday.
***
Tomorrow’s my last “first rehearsal” of college. (I finish grad school this winter.)
A lot of the people I loved there have already moved on… Moved away after undergrad, went to grad or law school, got jobs out of state, tried their luck, drifted—wherever life took them. Some goodbyes I got to say, others not… Blown past with the COVID winds, never meant to be.
It feels odd to mourn something that hasn’t started yet. What I’m really mourning are the echoes. The chips of paint from old sets—the Bakers’ shop, Giants’ woods, Wendy’s window. The corners of smiles that tear me backwards through time.
To lonely years, aimless wandering; to illusions of incompetence, ill-advised insecurity, isolation. Inaccessible.
How contained I was then. Sealed outside in. Tumbling solo through tempestuous storm.
Another time. Another girl. Another me.
tomorrow is A beginning of An end.
and to those people, here and wandered, of my college career (especially theatre): i am grateful beyond my best summation.
But while they left, buzzed, existed—I didn’t notice her. My “Lost Girl.”
She’s already gone.

almost a year after i released a 2019 copy of the nofly list for journalism and research there is now an in depth paper on the ethno-religious over-representation in it. very interesting read, and confirms much of what we already suspected!

haven't seen this on here yet so:
in case you don't want to slog through the shitscape that is the bird/letter website, take a peek beneath the cut (shamelessly copied from the something awful forums dungeon meshi thread)
- Her first memory of video games was watching her father playing Wizardry on Famicom, also Dragon Quest, Ultima, and Fire Emblem among others.
- She was a difficult child so her parents didn't let her play. Wizardry is a boring game to watch, but the monster illustrations on the walkthrough evoked her imagination and made her keep watching.
- She only started becoming a serious gamer after the serialization of Dungeon Meshi was locked, for research purposes. Before that, she read fantasy novels such as The Neverending Story (Michael Ende) and The Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkien).
- The international title for Dungeon Meshi: Delicious in Dungeons was decided by her editor.
- D&D popped up a lot when she researched the history of video games, so she read the rule books, replay novels, and games inspired by D&D.
- One of the first games she studied was the Legend of Grimrock (game's 80% off on Steam atm). Originally, she wanted Dungeon Master (FTL Games) which was famous for "RPG with meals" but hunting down the game and machine was too much.
- She didn't like games other than turn-based RPGs at first, but she decided to stop being picky and play anything that piqued her interest.
- She played Zelda: BotW and TotK on a borrowed Switch from her editor due to the console's scarcity at the time.
- She enjoyed Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War for their stories. RDR2's incredible attention to detail had Kui engrossed so much that she asked her editor and other mangaka to play it so she could discuss it with them.
- Kui praised The Witcher 3 localization as something only possible with full support from the developer. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of her all-time favorites.
- Papers, Please was her first taste of indie games.
- Disco Elysium is the perfect game for her due to the lack of fighting, intriguing story, charming character interaction, and top-down perspective. She tried playing it in English at first due to an unlikely chance for JP loc, but it was out of her ability. Thus she is forever grateful to Spike Chunsoft for localizing it.
- Kui played Baldur's Gate 3 from the time it was in Early Access. Again, she's grateful for Spike Chunsoft's JP loc. She hoped BG3's success would bring the possibility of JP loc for other titles too, such as Pathfinder: wotr
- She likes games with top-down perspective because they have narration text for monologues and scenery description. Even if the graphic is lacking, the texts show the atmosphere and each character's behavior and psyche. Also, characters that react to your choices.
- She praised Unpacking and House Flipper for being able to tell what kind of person lives there only through their belongings, and that there's no right or wrong for the placements; she would make the best arrangement and then enjoy her hard work while sipping tea.
- The biggest inspiration for Dungeon Meshi was the Cosmic Forge pen from Wizardry VI. With improved graphics from its predecessor, now it could show broken farming tools in the background and many more details that made exploration so much fun.
- At the time of the interview (Dec '23) she still hadn't watched DunMeshi anime, but she attended the recording sessions. She's embarrassed that the dialog she wrote now acted passionately by professionals. Marcille's screaming was wonderful but also made her want to flee.
- Kui was anxious about the CP2077 anime adaptation, but she was relieved it was the Night City she knows and loves.
- Other than minor adjustments, she left it to TRIGGER as to how to adapt
- She's happy that Mitsuda Yasunori was chosen as the anime composer, as she used to play Chrono Cross and rewatched the opening many times.
- Her anticipated games in 2024 are Cloudpunk, Nivalis, and Avowed.
- DunMeshi would be hard to adapt into a game because in the first place, what Kui depicted in the manga are parts that are omitted in games for the sake of brevity.
- If DunMeshi game was Wizardry-like, it'd be told through Laios' perspective and eating was essential not to die
#dungeon meshi#she only started playing video games after dunmeshi got picked up???? damn#that's dedication to the craft#i would *so* play a dunmeshi video game...#likes top-down perspective and strong narratives and character reactivity... she's just like me fr

i genuinely have no animosity towards ppl who get upset abt not being able to read academic texts + i do think we need to expand the pathways/methods of being exposed to critical concepts so that "sit + read for 2 hours" is not the only option.
however, as someone dx with adhd + incapable of sitting still for even a minute (actually right at this moment i am writing this instead of reading the book sitting open in front of me), i do feel like a lot of ppl do not realize that not all readings are designed to be read like a novel.
as in, it's ok + normal + good to need to reread a paragraph several times, to only read part of a book, to have to research or reference words or concepts in order to grasp the reading, to skip over large chunks of text which are not relevant to your expertise, to continue reading despite not understanding a concept. this is something 'neurotypical' academics do frequently + many of these texts, especially contemporary ones, were designed with this in mind.
there are many ppl with accessibility needs that are not being met by academic texts at this time! many texts (in my humble opinion) are unnecessarily complex in order to show off or hide the fact that they have no idea what they're talking about.
i still feel like many of the kneejerk reactions on this site are based on the assumption that their experience reading academic texts should be similar to their experiences reading a nyt bestseller, rather than a process of thinking, analyzing, researching, processing, returning. some of u are telling yourself that any challenges u face while reading are a result of some internal fault u have + not an expected + precious part of the experience.
#like if u hate reading feel free not to#but if u wish u could read theory#but you're convinced it's impossible bcuz it's confusing or difficult or u could never possibly read a whole book?#i encourage u to step away from this idea of reading cover to cover in one run#+ start engaging with theory like a puzzle which u can fiddle with as much or as little as u feel able to

Hazem @hazempalestine has had to remake his account 3(!) times because tumblr keeps banning him.
this causes his campaign to experience severe stagnation which he cannot afford.
Hazem has not been able to see his family since 2018!! he is far away from them and has to live in a state of constant anxiety about their wellbeing.
his parents, 4 brothers and his sister live in Jabalia camp under the most terrible circumstance.
they have only very limited access to food, clean water and medicine and are suffering immensely after the loss of their home. this is especially hard for the children, who often have to wait hours in line to get water for the family.
Hazem is a friend of @bilal-salah0 who has vouched for his campaign on numerous occasions. Bilal himself is vetted and on the fundraiser list by @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi here (#132, line 136)
Bilal told me that Hazem‘s family is like his second family back in Gaza. so naturally, he is also very worried about them.
please, follow Hazem here @hazempalestine, share his posts, amplify his campaign and donate so he may evacuate his family when the crossing opens back up again!
€3,462 / €50,000
this campaign is still very low on funds. please help Hazem's family!
tagging for reach under the cut, please let me know if you'd like to not be added to this

no, i do not believe this level of delusion about the pandemic being “over” is sustainable. i have noticed people behaving in ways they never would have before c19, like they know deep down that things are not OK and they’re scared. international travel, huge parties, etc. i don’t know. i guess i’ve been surprised and disappointed by mass human cruelty and indifference before but i really do believe there will be a tipping point. once activists can catch their fucking breath? maybe? it took 10 years of AIDS before ACT UP took to the streets. i don’t want to wait 10 years. i’ll push as hard as i fucking can but unfortunately i’m close to bed-bound by long covid at the moment. i do not want to die. c19 activism feels like a tipping point for climate change action, anticapitalist action, and abolition action. this can be a radicalizing moment. they made the US slightly more accessible for a MINUTE and then yanked it away but we *saw* it. we saw it!!!!!!!!!! efforts to squash c19 precautions go hand-in-hand with squashing anti-police protests: they know that the summer 2020 uprisings were able to happen because enough people, for a brief moment, were freer than they had ever been in this fucking evil country. when people are given resources, they give a shit. cops were the only maskless faces in the streets of minneapolis and that is not a coincidence. the old world is fucking scared and wants you to get sick and die. c19 deaths keep climbing, your yard is burning or flooding or bogged down by smoke, cops have killed more people each year since 2020. that’s the “normal” everybody is trying to convince you it’s sooooo fun to go back to. fuck off. fuck off. there will be a crack and we will kick it open

if people are interested in getting more into ttrpg scholarship and actual academic conversations that are happening around ttrpgs some journals to check out (pared down from a list written by dr evan torner in the generation analog discord) are:
international journal of roleplaying
japanese journal of analog rpg studies
analog game studies
games: research and practice *
journal of roleplaying studies and steam
all journals are open access, meaning you can read them for free, except for the starred one, which is half open access. the two italicized journals are bilingual, the first in japanese and the second in spanish
theres a lot of interesting discussions happening out there that i think would be very enriching to some of the convos happening here, especially in indie ttrpg spaces. so, go forth. read. enjoy
