EDIT: hooo boy, I read the article all the way to the end and-
The dude who came up with the three-cueing "just look at the picture and make shit up" method of teaching reading thinks that it doesn't matter if kids can't tell the words "pony" and "horse" apart because words don't matter and they're basically the same thing. Also, he thinks dyslexia doesn't exist because he doesn't like the "value judgment" implied in differentiating between skilled readers and struggling readers.
The science: this literally isn't how our brains work, this isn't how kids are supposed to learn how to read, you are hurting kids by continuing to teach them this way
Him: RIP to them but my science is different
i'm so glad someone else was bitchy about that post bc i couldn't be bothered to when i saw it. the reason that literacy rates in the usa are poor is because of rising inequality and also because kids are just straight up being taught to read wrong. not because of fucking fanfiction or YA or 'puriteens' or whatever the fuck else is the bugbear of the week for people who still stake their self esteem on their high school english grades
#basically they're teaching kids to guess what a word means by looking at a picture#instead of sounding out the words by looking at the letters#i was taught to read in the early 2000s#thankfully i went to a private elementary school where the teachers were more old-school so they taught me phonics#i remember feeling like i was invincible once my brain grasped that i can read anything if i can just sound it out#by 2nd grade i was reading chapter books with no pictures and getting by just fine bc i had a little children's dictionary nearby#i think it's best to start with phonics and then as the kids get more confident with reading then start introducing cueing#at some point a kid is going to have seen enough words that they don't need to sound every single letter out#and that's when cueing has its place: AFTER the kid has grasped the fundamentals of reading#teaching reading by 3-cueing from the get-go is just teaching kids to make shit up from a picture without actually reading#it's like teaching kids to memorize that 1970015 divided by 89 is 22135#instead of just teaching them how to do long division#and this article was pre-covid#i can't imagine how badly covid set back the kids who would have been in 1st grade during those years

Ok, this will be my last fan fic for i am planning to create my own manga series soon, so hope you guys enjoy✌️✨
*no Nsfw but lots of fluff
*long but easy to read👍✨
Y/n choi (hoshina fans) and y/n park(narumi fans) are former defense Force in korea, basically, both are half Korean and Japanese, one of their parents is japanese as they were lived and born from korea, its been how many years that they have served for the defence force that they even got the title of the BEST officers
They decided to move to Japan cause of that one mission incident.
They were sent out to a mission that they knew was impossible to win, 20 officers were sent, 2 survived
Choi: Request to retreat! All of our comrades are dead! However if you wish to continue, we request for a strong back up!
"request denied by commander, continue the mission"
Park: ARE YOU CRAZY, THIS BATTLE IS A 2 V 5 HUGE KAIJUS! AND YOU EXPECT US TO WIN??...or perhaps, you expect us to die and dispose of us so that the future generations can take our place?
"...commander orders: proceed with the mission.."
In disbelief and surprise, park's knees fell to the ground as she slowly began to lose hope in living, on the other hand, choi was also in disbelief however, determined to stay alive, she swore that once this mission is clear, she will leave the defense force
Somehow, the 2 did manage to live and clear the mission, but once they were about to give their resignation letter, the commander offered them tickets to japan before she accepted the letter, telling them that their skills would be a waste if they don't use it.
With that statement alone, it is already clear to the two, they've been offered to transfer to japan.
As expected, both passed however, choi was in the third division while park is in first decision
Y/n choi (hoshina x reader)
Your first day as a defense force officer in Japan was VERY NERVOUS, without y/n park(narumi fans) being with new new people is difficult, you and park may not be close neither are you friends but she's the only person you knew here in japan.
getting along with everyone is difficult, you can't guess their intentions, a high possibility chance rate that every single one of them will also stab you in the back or rely on you like a tool.
Eventually you decide to work alone, just like in Korea
Kikoru: choi—san, come sit with us, eating alone is lonely dont you think?
You: sorry, you're mistaken, i don't feel a bit lonely, and plus, instead of talking, im more focused with surroundings in case a kaiju attacks, but thank you for the offer
Kikoru: oh, ok, no problem, if you do notice something, feel free to call us
You: i will, thank you
While eating, you can feel the gaze of a fox Captain, It's been a while now since the vice captain of the third division got eyes on you, aside from you being similar to him as the only officer who uses melee weapons, commonly swords, there is something interesting in you that caught his attention.
"office Choi"
You stand and greet him
"since you are only capable of swords, what do you say about you be personally trained by me!"
"...i thank you for the offer but I—“
"That's an order" (✿^‿^)
"ha?.."
Since then, you and shoshiro are training every night, he teaches you some techniques that you haven't learned, it's been like that for several weeks, and he trains you, hes also observing you in the day, your interactions and how you treat everyone coldly.
One night, the lights suddenly went off, an immediate fear then attacked you, the anxiety and trauma that you've suppressed and hidden we're triggered immediately, ever since Young, you always stay away from the dark, its not the dark that you fear, its what in the dark
you remembered witnessing an abused woman seeking for help in the dark when you were at the age of 6, the regret is still haunting you for not helping to the woman, at the age of 7, you were greeted by an old drunk man in the dark, to your child self, those people were monsters
You knelt down, letting go of the sword, covering your ears as tears begin to flow down from your eyes, soshiro was able to see you tear up, as his eyes widened in surprise, he then wraps you up with his jacket, kneeling down and pats you in the back
"its ok, its ok, im here with you in case something happens"
You were flustered at first but then realized that maybe he just pity you, which got you sad
But nop, it's the opposite, in fact, soshiro thought that it was cute, a cold blooded tiger turns out to be just a scared kitten protecting itself
After a while, the lights turned back on, it turns out it was just a black out
"This is the end of our training for now, you can bring the jacket and go back to your room, or are you scared of huge places alone at night and want a fox to come with you?<( ̄︶ ̄)>"
"no im fine"
He insisted on coming anyway, ever since that night, he started being warm and fuzzy with you, literally trying to melt your wall of ice, to meet the kitten that it reflects, and before you knew it, he successfully melted the ice
You've started to become more talkative with him and only him.
"Hey hey 👋 officer y/n choi, im going to the first division, you mentioned about a person you know there, right? Wanna come?"
Its been a while since you and y/n park has spoken, so you agreed
At the first division base, you and y/n park are in the Library
"btw i tamed a kitten"
"What's that gotta do with me"
I'll create a narumi fans version soon, sorry if the ending is a bit lazy i got tired recently

Can i request a Billy Gunn fic with some NSFW? Possibly he and reader were old friends when he worked for WWE but they reconnect after a long time and get close to each other again and maybe a wrestler cuts a promo on him and says something about y/n and he snaps and kinda confesses his feelings he has for her.
Old Flame
An: This ended up to be way longer than I thought it would be. I decided to play a different route with this request
Summary: Billy and Y/n "dated" (really just sex) a while ago and Billy hates how he let Y/n slip through his fingers all those years ago because he was afraid of commitment. What happens when she shows up in AEW and he relies he still loves her.
Word count: 2K
Warnings: SMUT (18+) Billy Gunn X Female reader, Mentions of Sex and sexual acts, mentions of alcohol and spiked drinks, 18+ themes
Main Masterlist Billy Gunn Masterlist Part 2 Part 3
I had mixed feelings about having Y/n in AEW, sure it was great to see her after all these years but it was strange since how much we had both changed. I remember when I first saw Y/n after all our years apart. I was backstage at dynamite when I saw her, jokingly said to my sons “That chick over there looks like Y/n” and once she turned around I noticed it was indeed her. I felt my stomach drop. She looked different, older, well of course she looked older we were both way older now but she aged like fine wine, still gorgeous as ever. When I asked what she was doing backstage at Dynamite she explained that she was there to help the young talent in the women's division, along with teaching her daughter how to wrestle. I was happy for her but for some reason I was nervous.
The first few weeks went by fast and I barely ran into Y/n which I was secretly grateful for. That was until my sons, The Gunns joined bullet club gold. Although we didn’t work on screen together at the end of the day they were still my children. I guess the boys did some digging and found out about the little fling Y/n and I had all those years ago. I tried to explain to them that it was years ago, way before they were even born, for them to leave it alone, but they knew I obviously wasn’t over it since I had been practically avoiding Y/n. The boys thought it would be funny to ask Y/n to train them even though I already taught them everything they needed to know. So here I am sitting across the ring from the woman I let slip through my fingers years ago.
“So Y/n, I heard you and my dad used to date back in the day” Austin said. I store daggers at him, but he didn’t care, instead he gave me a smirk, wanting to see how far he could push me before I broke.
“I wouldn't say we dated necessarily” Y/n said, as she corrected Colten’s grip, making the choke he was practicing on his brother more effective. “Sure we went out on a few dates but we didn’t date. Your father didn’t want to commit to a relationship” Her words stung, the story she told had no effect on her but I still hated myself for it even if it was 30 years ago. “So you guys were just fuck buddies then?” Colten asked. “COLTEN!-” I yelled but Y/n cut me off. “I guess you could say that, but your father was a gentleman and always bought me dinner first”
To say I was embarrassed would be an understatement. I was just about to leave when Y/n called out “Come on Billy, don’t be such a baby. They are just messing with you” I continued to walk pretending not to hear her, she came up to me and grabbed my arm, forcing me to turn and look at her. As I towered over her, I felt like I had gone back in time. Back to the time where I fucked everything up years ago.
****
“Y/n I’m sorry!” I yelled out to the poor girl who stood beneath me with tears in her eyes. “I should have known you were only using me to get your dick wet” She yelled back, her words laced with venom. I knew it was only a matter of time before she would ask to be more than whatever it was we had going on but the truth was I was so scared to mess things up between us I didn’t even realize the hole I dug myself into until it was too late. I was trying to protect her but instead I hurt her.
This little buddy system started a few months ago when a very drunk Y/n admitted that no guy she had been with had made her cum. One day after a PPV we all went out for drinks when Y/n’s got spiked, luckily for her it wasn’t too bad but boy did she say some crazy things.
Being a good friend I took her back to my hotel room before she could embarrass herself too much and she ended up passing out right as we stepped foot in the room. Carefully I placed her on the bed and removed her shoes before tucking her under the covers.
When she came to, she was confused. “Did we fuck?” was the first thing she asked me, noticing she was in my bed. “No, but you wanted to” I told her, Y/n looked at me confused. “Someone spiked your drink at the bar. I took you back to my hotel room to keep you from embarrassing yourself” I told her truthfully. “Oh god, what did I say?” “Nothing much, just that you have never had an orgasm before” “Great” “Don’t worry, I'm sure I can help you with that problem” I told her with a smirk.
I couldn't deny the effect she had on me, she was perfect in every way. Seeing her in my bed didn’t help my crush on her. As we made our way back to the hotel she kept rambling about random things and even suggested that we sleep together. I knew that wasn’t her talking, she was drugged and wouldn't remember a thing in the morning. Even though I liked her, no way would I take advantage of her in such a state. I wanted to get with her when she was fully sober, wanting to have something real not just an impulsive booty call or being so fucked up we woudn’t remember anything in the morning.
So I waited until the time was right. I sat in my private locker room fantasizing about Y/n when I heard someone knocking at my door. “Who is it?” I yelled through the door. To my surprise it was Y/n herself. “It’s me! Are you almost ready to go?” She asked me “Yeah, just give me a minute!” I said before opening the door to let her inside. When I opened the door I saw the shocked look on her face. “Well someones excited to see me,” she said as she looked me up and down. I was confused for a second until I looked down noticing I was fully hard. “Shit!” I could feel my face get red. “Don’t worry, it happens to everyone. You don’t have to be embarrassed” She told me reassuringly. I quickly grabbed all my things, changing the subject. “Do you want to get room service tonight instead? I don’t really feel like going out tonight.”
The two of us sat in my hotel room in silence. Y/n was first to break the silence. “Does it hurt?” She asked, referring to my still hard cock. “It doesn’t hurt, just uncomfortable” I told her, the effect she had on me still being shown. “Do you want help with it?” I almost choked when the words came out of her mouth. “What?” I asked in disbelief. “Do you want some help with that?” She repeated as she got up from her seat, deciding to sit on my lap. “We could help each other out?” I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Everything happened so fast, before I knew it we were tangled in each other, frantically taking off the others clothes fighting for dominance. “You have no idea how long I have wanted this,” I told Y/n. I could tell by the look on her face she was shocked by my size. “Don’t worry I’ll take good care of you” I told her reassuringly. I wanted to take my time with Y/n. I placed delicate kisses down her body before settling between her thighs. Kissing and sucking her inner thighs before inserting myself in her. I started with slow thrusts, trying to keep my promise of being gentile but she just felt so good, I needed to feel more, I needed to make her cum, I needed to make her have an orgasm so good, she could never be with anyone else, and that’s exactly what I did. My thrusts were hard, the grip I had on her hips as I pounded into her would bruise but neither of us cared. The two of us a moaning mess, my ears where filled with praises that left her lips. “Fuck, you feel so good, you fill me up so good” I could tell by the way she fluttered around me her words were true. “Fuck Y/n” I called out. I could feel she was close. “That’s it baby” I praised “Right there, You're close. Just relax baby. I need you to relax for me, don’t fight it” I told her as I continued my assault on her pussy. I reached my hand between us to play with her clit. That put her over the edge. “That’s it baby, I got you, let it out, let it all out” I told her as I continued to fuck her through her orgasm before I pulled out, cumming all over her chest.
That became our routine. After shows we would either go out for dinner or order room service then have some crazy sex. As the weeks went past I found myself falling in love with Y/n and it terrified me. I was scared I was going to hurt her so I pushed myself away. I didn’t even realize it but I had become distant with her. Looking back on it I was kind of a jerk, I was never one for aftercare but with Y/n it was different, I almost found it better than sex, it was more intimate. That was why I fell in love, so, I became distant after sex, I acted like I didn’t care but I cared too much. When she asked what changed I avoided the question, when she asked to be more than just sex I turned it down without thinking. By the time I realized what I did it was too late.
“I’m Sorry Y/n!” I yelled out to the poor girl who stood beneath me with tears in her eyes. “I should have known you were only using me to get your dick wet” She yelled back, her words laced with venom. I knew I fucked up. “Y/n wait! I didn’t mean it.” I yelled but It was too late. She was already grabbing her clothes that were scattered around the room and left before saying “And to think I was in love with you”
****
Since that day at the training facility I couldn't get Y/n out of my head. She was all I thought about 24/7. That day replaying over and over again. But tonight I had a Trois match with the acclaimed against top flight and action andretti and I knew I needed to focus on the match, not Y/n. The match went well, another successful title defense until we were interrupted by bullet club gold. Austin and Colton were obviously still not over how I picked the acclaimed over them, the two of them alongside Juice Robinson requesting a title shot. I was going to say no until they brought up Y/n. “Of course you would say no Billy. I’m honestly shocked you are still with the acclaimed, I know how you are with commitment. I mean you let the love of your life slip through your fingers because you were scared of commitment. I wonder what Y/n would think if she knew you still beat yourself up about it 30 years later. Now you are all alone, still wrestling when you should be retired because you have no one to go home to” Their words stung but they were true “You want a title shot? FINE, Next week Bullet Club Gold Vs The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass!” I yelled back at them!
I sure hope Y/n didn’t hear any of that.

The 'Great' MHA Read Along, Part One (Chapters 1-4)
So, at the request of @lacunammmm, I'm going to be... well, rereading MHA. All of it, god help me. Because the chapter division is stupid and based off giving weekly (and often cheap) cliffhangers rather than smooth storytelling, I'm just going to reread arcs instead of individual chapters (the arcs I'm going to be using are the ones off the wiki, for the record), kinda summarize it, and write out my opinions as they happen in a stream of conscious kind of way.... which is going to be a mess, fair warning. If you've read my take on the War Arc as a whole, that is the vibe I'm going to be going for. Thankfully, the first couple of arcs are only a couple of chapters long, so I get to get some easy stuff as a warm up before it gets longer and more complicated. Anyways, I'll be doing this on and off, and if this gets any attention I'll probably move it up my priority list a bit.
Anyways, first impressions as I read: where the hell was this guy with dragon fire head the entire time? Right at the start of chapter one it has examples of Quirks and there's this guy freaking out, and it's like a fire version of all those dragon covenants from Darks Souls, which is fucking awesome. Seriously, talk about an underused idea.
*clears throat*
But. Anyways. There's some crazy nostalgia seeing normal kid!Izuku; I know he's technically the same character, but he's changed so much from then to now, it's almost like he's literally a different person. It's not just that he's more confident and stuff*, like, all his mannerisms are gone, too. I mean, hell, the only thing that really connects Izuku from then to the current version is him going Kaachan, of all things. There's this kind of disconnect because I can't think of Post War Izuku, or even to some extent before that, really acting like Izuku.
More than that, though, he feels... fleshed out, in the way later Izuku doesn't; this Izuku, for all his flaws, and often (but not just) because of them, feels a lot more like a person that late game SUPER-DEKU Izuku does. Man, I miss this version.
*Actually, now that I think about it, he doesn't actually seem to have grown in confidence, after a certain point. Maybe by BvI2, his confidence, as a person, seemed to have stalled a lot. He's more confident later on, true, but that's more in a, 'I have assessed I can take you' kind of way to various villains, where before he was more nervous and determined; he's more confident in his power, sure, and his power level means he can apply that confidence almost all the time, but beyond that? The Dark Deku bit is something I could see this Izuku doing, if with less confidence, and for him to go on for so long without really getting to value himself at all speaks of some serious lacking growth.
Ah, beginning Bakugou. I did not miss you. And geeze, Bakugou cares way too much about Izuku; that ego is as big as a blimp and as fragile as spun glass. God, I forgot how damn sinister he was early on; that smile while he's burning Izuku (which I note doesn't even to have marred his uniform) gives me 'child pulling fly wings' energy. I really could see early Bakugou going way too far on Izuku and seriously hurting him in that, 'I didn't mean to' kind of a way, only maybe regretting it afterwards, and that is a bad vibe to have. In a less serious note, how does the teacher teach anything with him in class? From the way his friends talked afterwords, the lack of reaction the teacher had to his fits, everything he did except the suicide baiting was standard. Yelling, standing on the desk, exploding shit? None of that registered.
I know he's supposed to get away with everything because the staff likes his potential, but how much of the class does the teacher have to yell over him and his explosions? Or does he patiently wait for him to shut up before the lesson can continue, because clearly Bakugou's not getting punished for any of that.
...Sweet flying fuck, it has just got to hit me how much that must have hurt, the slime villain thing. Drowning is supposed to be a horrible way to die, and I doubt drowning in slime is any better, and to add insult to injury? He calls Izuku 'his hero', fuck. All things considered, that's probably the first time Izuku's been told that since his mom played games with him a a kid, since I doubt it's as common a phrase in MHA as it is now...
...
Now that I think about it, I refuse to believe that some sort of All Might related slang doesn't exist in MHA somewhere, and is this super common thing that people say all the time. It makes too much sense to me, considering the semi-literal worship the man has, and makes me want to laugh too much for it not to be real.
Speaking of All Might, popping out of the sewer, while carrying his groceries, as you do: in retrospect, that's like Superman crossed with your favorite idol popping out of the sewer, dressed in a normal outfit, holding groceries. It is both hilarious and without the reader's context brings up so many questions.
God, I miss this All Might. He's posing as he jump/flies away, long past the time Izuku should be able to see him, delightfully extra about it, and he's just so casual about this interaction, as he checks on Izuku, secures the villain, and even gives him an autograph on sheer autopilot.
I... I think this might be peak! All Might? Like, I know we get more of his story later on (but not by much, and generally just to introduce another character), but as a character I feel like his entire personality just started to flatten out after this initial arc, and by the time the next arc hits he's already getting flanderized into the useless character we end up with. Give it a second, let's get to a bit later in the story and I'll expand on that.
That said, the fact Izuku managed to stay on his leg and not get flattened by the jump or something is amazing.
Ah, instant karma on Bakugou. But, as has been noted, not punishment; he's not being punished for being an asshole, something bad just randomly happened to him, in a way that makes readers subconsciously want to think he's been punished for being an asshole, without having to make up for it in anyways, in a kind of half assed version of the dying for redemption trope.
Alright, real talk time: All Might and turning down Izuku. A lot of people hate on All Might for this, and I mean, a lot. They call him hypocritical and cruel, and like, did you pay attention? The man is being consistent; he didn't become a hero (student) until he got a Quirk. More than that, he tried to let him off gently, told him about how else he could help, and he really was just being honest. He may have been wrong, but he was honestly wrong. The fact Izuku took it so bad was because All Might was his last hope, but you can't blame All Might for Izuku's entire life when this is literally the first time they met.
*side eyes Bakugou*
Anyways, and now we come to it: the big moment. Well, a big moment, anyways; a lot of big moments in these chapters.... but yeah, Izuku saving Bakugou. It's... I feel like hindsight is tainting me here, in all honesty. Because that face Bakugou makes, as all those heroes stand around*, it does get you in the gut, it really does, especially when it drives cowardly Izuku to charge forward to save him. Asshole or not, he is just a kid, and he doesn't deserve that...
But. I can't help but look at that and think, 'This is Hori skipping on characterization'. That is, rather than making him better (though, to be fair, these early parts are the part of his biggest growth), or kinder to fix his character, Hori is hitting us with a poor Bakugou moment to smash some sympathy into us to try and undo all the shit that made us hate him not five seconds ago, while still leaving him as is. I don't know, maybe I'm too cynical, but I can't shake the thought.
But yeah, this is like, the defining moment for who Izuku is as a person, and it still is great at making him feel heroic in this really realistic, yet still impressive and admirable way. I really do love these early chapters. As much as I hate to say it, though, if All Might wasn't there all that would have happened was he would have gotten killed, like, two seconds after that so the heroes kinda had a point yelling at him.
Trying to recruit the recently traumatized victim, though? That is pure shit. Less, 'do you want to work for me', and more, 'Do you have lung damage', please; you're apparently professionals so I'd love it if you acted like it.
*Yeah, I feel like Aizawa would have expected all his students to try and rescue someone trapped by the slime guy, Quirk match up or not; there's certainly enough bad match ups they have in literally every school sponsored fight we've seen that it feels off that someone just said, 'I have a disadvantage' and gave up. I can't tell if this is an excellent demonstration of how half assed the heroes are getting, that UA is just better, or all heroes got flanderized as the series progressed into just charging in all the time anyways and this kind of characterization got forgotten. Some of everything, maybe.
Also. You, Fire Hose Man. Backdraft. Look, you stupid fucker, I get you're putting fires out (the second Bakugou is not responsible is the second his Quirk starts being treated seriously, interestingly; can't light a shirt on fire but once the slime gets to him the city starts burning? After this I don't think he'll ever start a fire again, no matter how hard he's going on someone or how flammable various things are) but you know what might be more helpful? Stopping more fires from happening, and saving a literal child! Two-for-one!
The villain is made of slime. You have access to high pressure water.
Do I need to draw you a map?!
*sigh*
...Sweet fuck in any other context than him being hammier than ham, All Might would be terrifying. How much of that persona is All Might going, 'Don't be afraid, I'm here to rescue you', and how much is, 'Don't be afraid of me, I'm so extra! Clearly I can't single handedly cause natural disasters when I'm not carefully monitoring my strength; there's no way you're going to explode if I touch you!'
God Bakugou, your ego, dial it back. Izuku, why are you complimenting how he refuses to get over himself?
Actually, right before All Might shows up, Izuku basiclly moves on from what... All Might said, which is interesting. He clearly still wants to be a hero, but that moment in itself just seemed really grown up to me. I respect that.
And... ah. I think this is my favorite moment.
'You can be a hero'.
God that's so damn powerful, the way you can see Izuku's composure fail, second by second. And... look at the way All Might is standing, look at how confident he is standing there, even when he's Skele-Might. This is the All Might I like, this is the man who helped get me into this story in the first place; even at his weakest, even after burning past his limit, he's still got the aura of a top hero to him, before promptly being shown as a Real Human, and it's so different from how cringing he seems to get later on, and so different from all these other mentors and heroes. All Might is both larger than life and starkly human in these chapters and that contrast is glorious.
And then the training, and I just hate we can't get this for rest of the series; All Might has that retired coach kind of a feel to him, of a guy who has done everything and knows how it works, and is just surprised and delighted by how Izuku is not only keeping up with, but surpassing his expectations.
The training we see is short, but when Izuku ends up screaming his victory, god it feels like he earned that win, and it's viscerally satisfying to see him improve like that.
'Now eat this', lol.
...What the fuck is UA's budget. They have a fucking town, like, an actual town, to train in. More than one? People could live there. And it's nice to see Iida be a character again, and the little arc he goes through here is interesting; he's well meaning, but abrasive, and in Izuku's mind almost bullying him, but you can still see how he means well; he maybe be a bit of a jerk at this moment, but he's not an asshole, which makes him (for what, one chapter?) a far more satisfying rival character than Bakugou ever was. If the story was spun different, you could really see a competing sort of rivalry between them forming where they both ultimately respect each other even as they try to one up each other, the thing everyone seems to think Izuku has with Bakugou for no real reason.
On another retrospective note, I have mixed feelings about how OFA is working here; when I first read this, I got into it, Izuku's struggles really brought me in. And then he kept struggling. And kept struggling. And the way All Might is suddenly unable to see this obvious problem coming, when he was so competent until Izuku got to UA, for literal months, leaves a bad taste. Looking back, it feels like Izuku is getting nerfed so he can suffer and panic all the time, and All Might is getting dumber so he can be a joke, and that.... ugh.
Uraraka coming in clutch on that rescue, though.
And Bakugou, yet again I'm harsher in hindsight, or maybe just less connected to Izuku's view on him, who would of course expect Bakugou to be the best, but the way it's focusing on his 'sheer battle instinct' and that he ends up in first place just feels like Hori hyping him up just because he can.
And to wrap it up... I'm assuming the 'Your Hero Academia' makes more sense in Japanese, because that phrase just feels...awkward, reading that in English. Was it different in the official stuff, or did it just stay as that weird almost title drop...? I can't quite sympathize as much with Izuku here, because of course he was going to get in, but it's nice seeing him win anyways.
In all honesty, this ended up meatier than I expected for just four chapters; in the future, if/when I keep this up, and the arcs get bigger, I might need to break it into multiple chunks to stop them from getting too big. Or, maybe this intro is meatier into such a short span because it's the intro. Guess we'll have to see.

For the Sake of a Smile (V.2) Chapter Seven
Title: For the Sake of a Smile (Revised)
Overall Rating: Mature (18+)
Chapter Rating: T for teen. Some violence, and some innuendo
Trigger warnings: Nothing beyond the child abuse hinted in the series, though we do explore the consequences a bit more.
Main Pairing: Balam Shichiro/Reader
Summary: Hell on earth was your motto for your job. Granted, you were pretty sure earth really was hell, considering the shit you had seen in your life. And the fact your coworker was a child.
A child named Suzuki Iruma, in fact. A kid who’s life was decidedly worse than yours, but yet he smiled despite everything. It wasn’t long after meeting him that you decided you’d do a lot for his smile. Including summoning a literal demon and signing your soul away.
But as it turns out, hell (The Netherworld, actually) was a lot better than living on earth. Demons were more humane than a lot of humans you knew.
And Iruma’s smile wasn’t the only one that would change your life.

The mansion was oddly quiet, reminding you of the days shortly after you arrived in the Netherworld, when everyone else was at Babyls and you were left to your own devices.
Granted, a few days ago you had awoken to chaos as reporters descended upon your new home, eager to get an interview with Walter Park's hero. To garner some peace, you had agreed when Iruma and Clara asked (begged) to let him spend some time at the Valc's home, which was apparently deep within a forest only their family could navigate.
As much as you hated the idea of allowing Iruma out of your sight after the events of Walter park, you hoped time with his closest friends would be good for the boy. And as chaotic as Clara was, the way she talked about her own mom gave you the feeling she'd keep an eye on the trio.
But you also made Iruma swear he'd keep his phone charged and on him at all times. You also may have texted him frequently to assure he was keeping that promise.
But that was keeping Sullivan from calling him just as frequently.
To keep yourself distracted, you had poured yourself into the study of Runes. You hadn't seen any books about them in the school's library, which alone had piqued your interest. A whole division of magic not in the library of a school created to teach magic?
Why?
//Demons don't have much use for Runes when other magic is just as powerful and far easier to use// Balam had explained when you had asked him via text.
With the semester over, you hadn't seen him since Walter Park.
And, well…
-+-
For the first time in a long time, you didn't wake tangled in covers and thick feathery pillows. Instead, strong arms were wrapped around you, your pillow a chest that was somehow firm yet soft.
And large, forest-green wings shielded both you and Balam from the outside world.
He couldn't have been very comfortable, sitting cross-legged on the bed, shoulders hunched forward as he cradled you, his head hung low and unsupported as he slept. Yet at the same time, he looked peaceful, his breathing slow and rhythmic.
It gave you a real chance to study his face without the mask. There was no missing the fact half of his lips had been torn away, leaving behind exposed fangs and a large, discolored scar. Logically, you knew he likely hid it behind a mask because it likely bothered others, maybe even frightened them.
Yet… you were neither bothered nor scared. You… still found him handsome. What that said about you, you weren't exactly sure, but in the odd mindspace of waking up in someone's arms you were able to admit it to yourself without much hesitancy.
You found Balam Shichiro attractive. His face, the physique of his body, his temperament. His eager thirst for knowledge combined with his desire to share what he knew.
Without thinking, you reached up to cup his face, still awed by how much larger he was than you. His breath was hot and moist against your skin, his non-ruined lip soft and supple before transitioning into twisted scar tissue.
His dark eyelashes shifted against his pale cheeks as he woke. For a moment, he sleepily looked at you, a soft smile forming beneath your fingers.
Then he truly woke up. And panicked.
-+-
Needless to say, things were still a little awkward.
So maybe it was because of that, or because they were such a mystery, but you threw yourself into finding out more about runes.
You could at least acknowledge a part of it was because of what Sullivan had said: "Runes are one the few types of magic that humans can use. After all, it’s how you first summoned me."
Magic. It was your chance at magic. A way to defend yourself, to defend others in this realm fraught with danger.
You had done it before, so you could do it again.
Yet, again, there was the hurdle of the fact demons acknowledged Runes existing, but didn't seem to have any interest in exploring them. Every other branch of magic had enough books and essays on them that it could fill a library itself.
You had found less than a dozen that merely referenced Runes, talked of them as if whomever was reading was already familiar. One lone tome that had complicated patterns like the summoning seal that spoke of using smaller, simpler Runes to create larger spells.
It was like trying to learn to read a language when you were unfamiliar with the alphabet.
"Why do you look so dour, my sugardrop princess?" Sullivan asked one evening. Iruma was absent once again, though this time at a 'Sabbath', or what you knew as a mixer back home. An outing of him and some of his male classmates to meet some ladies of other classes.
"Difficulty with research," You admitted as you sipped at the soup, the name of which escaped you but tasted delicious nonetheless. "I found some books regarding putting Runes in different arrangements, but none explaining the Runes themselves."
Oddly, Sullivan's eyes brightened. "Is that why you've been tearing the Library up once again? Why didn't you say so earlier!"
You flushed slightly. The idea had crossed your mind. However, you weren't exactly the best at asking for help when you felt you should be able to do something yourself. "I… didn't want to impose."
In true Sullivan fashion, he all but launched himself across the table to embrace you in a strong hug. "You'd never be a bother, my sweet little princess! Please, let me teach you! Please!"
--+--
Sullivan was - surprisingly - a decent teacher. He was calm, patient, and able to explain things in a way you could understand when you asked questions.
"Algiz is a simple protection rune," He said as he drew the rune on the blackboard, which looked rather like a 'Y'. "If you don't have time for a more elaborate sigil, it will suffice as a basic shield. But usually it will not withstand more than one attack at a time."
He then drew a rough-looking 'n'. "Uruz will boost your endurance and strength for a short time, depending on how much mana you put into it."
"I don't have any," You reminded him with a frown, pausing in your notes. Since there were apparently no entry-level texts, you were determined to make your own. "That's why we're doing this."
There was a gleam in his eye as he leaned forward. "That's not quite true. Humans do have mana, but it's different from our own. While Demons can direct and shape our mana with a simple thought, humans mana simply is. It cannot be easily molded or transformed like ours."
You waved your arms, more than a little frustrated. If you had mana, but it simply existed, unusable, then why even mention it? "Then how am I supposed to use it?!"
"That, you will need to learn that yourself," Sullivan replied with a smile. "Now! The next rune you should know is Kaunan in case you need to attack!"
--+--
There were books stacked on the large wooden desk in your room, along with an assortment of paper and pens. You carefully traced the simple glyphs and sigils while focusing on the meaning behind them.
Magic was mostly about intent and imagination. And like Sullivan said, he could only teach you the symbols, but was unable to really explain how to use them.
When he had branded you back at Walter Park, it had been his magic that had created the Runes. Though he had also managed to anchor them to your own Mana to keep them working as you had parted ways. Proving you had a fairly decent reservoir of Mana yourself.
So you drew the Runes, over and over while focusing your mind on what you wanted. While there were literal hundreds of different Runes, Sullivan had encouraged you to focus on the three he had shown you. Algriz. Uruz. Kaunan.
You weren't sure how long you had been tracing Algriz over and over. Long enough your mind had begun to wander, recalling the feeling of the Carmine Dragon's giant claws pressing down on you. It had been so heavy, yet at the same time it felt like you were wrapped in something that reinforced every bit of you so it couldn't push you into the dirt.
But despite that strength, you hadn't really felt protected. Protection was…
Was being wrapped in Balam's arms as the dragon unleashed its fiery breath. One arm clutching at your waist, the other cupping the back of your head and pressing you against him. The odd feeling of his magic wrapping around you just as securely.
Or when you had woken the following morning, nestled in his arms.
It was like something snagged beneath your breastbone, a hook catching something within. You were ripped from your thoughts as the Algriz Rune flared, emitting a golden light that wrapped around you. That feeling of being safe and protected somehow radiated with the glow.
With shaky hands, you grabbed the pen and tried to press it against the skin of your other arm. But couldn't even cause a dent to form no matter how hard you pressed.
"I did it… I did it!" You jumped up, excitement rushing through you.
Magic! You had done magic!
Your phone dinged with a message from Balam: //How's studying going?//
So elated from your accomplishment, you didn't even pause before calling him. He sounded rather surprised when he answered, greeting you by name. "Is everything okay?"
"I did magic!" You exclaimed giddily. "I really did it!"
"What? Really?! That's amazing!" He sounded as excited as you felt, making you even more happy. "I'm so glad to hear that!"
"I was practicing the Algriz rune, the one for protection, thinking about how it felt to be protected and poof!" You explained, able to reign in your tongue enough to avoid admitting the entire truth.
"I'm proud! And a bit relieved, to be honest. Especially with the next semester approaching."
His words confused you, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I'm sure you'll hear more from Lord Sullivan, or at least Iruma after the start. But after a long discussion, Kalego and Lord Sullivan came to an agreement to give the Misfit class some… extra training."
"Oh?" You settled into the chair you enjoyed reading in, a faint frown on your face.
"They're very talented. We had an inkling after Royal one, but that became even more apparent after Walter Park. It would be a disservice to them not to challenge them more to see how skilled they are, and what they're true potential is."
This… was true. For the stories you heard of Walter Park, what you saw yourself, you knew it to be true. Yet Balam's tone left you feeling like there was something else. "You sure Kalego's not just a bit bitter over Royal One still?"
Balam chuckled, though it wasn't as full-bodied as usual. "Maybe a little, but he's also very proud of their accomplishments, even if he won't admit it outloud."
There was a pause of silence. Heavy and almost awkward. "What are you not saying, Balam?" You finally asked.
"I'll be training Sabnock and Asmodeus," He admitted with a sigh. "And, well, what I have in mind will be intense, so I won't have the freetime I did before."
"O-oh." Your good mood completely deflated. Despite the awkwardness that had lingered after Walter Park, you were looking forward to seeing him again on a regular basis.
Even if you hadn't been able to completely squish the ember of a crush that was still smoldering in your heart.
"I still want to see you!" He interjected quickly, "I meant I might not have time for my side projects! And I was also worried about everyone being busy leaving you unprotected! But now you can protect yourself, should something happen, which is such a relief, and I…"
You couldn't help the giggles that bubbled upwards from your chest, along with a warm, fuzzy feeling. "You're such a worry wart."
"You're unbelievably precious to me," He answered, causing your heart to squeeze painfully and your cheeks to flush. "You and Iruma both, but he could at least protect himself, or summon Kalego. I couldn't bear to lose either of you."
You covered your face, even though there was no way for him to see you. No one was there to witness how flushed you were from his words alone.
Surely… surely he didn't mean it in a romantic sense. That was just the silly little crush whispering in your ear. It was just because you and Iruma were human, and he was semon with a thirst for knowledge about your world. Yes, you were friends too, but he had admitted demons didn't exactly have friends like humans.
Thank Devi he couldn't see you right now.
But what could you say to that without being weird? Thank you? You're precious to us too?
Which he was. You knew Iruma was fond of Balam, especially after his tutoring that helped him pass. And you were certainly fond of him, much more than you probably should be.
"Um, anyways," He continued, making you realize how long the silence had lingered. "I'm proud that you're getting the hang of them so quickly. It's not an easy branch of magic, after all. And humans aren't used to using magic. I do wonder what amount of mana you possess. I mean, I was under the assumption humans have none, so this is really fascinating!"
Your anxiety eased as he continued to talk about the arguments he had read for and against humans having magical abilities in any shape or form. You didn't even need to participate as he talked, other than the occasional noise confirming you were still listening, or reassuring that you were.
This crush was going to make things difficult; yet at the same time, you couldn't help but bask in the warm happiness it caused.
--+--
The new semester started and things were extremely slow with the misfits in their assigned extra teaching. The Library was restored to its new glory, easy enough to navigate that many students didn't need much help after the first few weeks. You couldn't practice Runes during work hours, worried others would question why you were practicing magic like a student.
You were bored. You missed seeing Iruma and his class throughout the day. Last semester, the Misfit Class had seemed to live in the library near the end of the semester; which had kept it lively to say the least. You missed making plans for the Library and working with the faculty staff to make your plans a reality too.
You missed seeing Balam at lunch times as well as any free time he had. True to his word, he didn't have as much freedom between his usual classes and his special tutoring. It was only after school when you slipped to the underground classroom he had claimed for his training that you could spend any real time with him, though your conversations were restricted topic-wise.
After all, the last thing you needed was Az and Sabnock to realize your secret too.
“Is this really a normal demon thing?” You whispered as you watched the two teens spare against each other, looking both half dead, and exceedingly stubborn. “Have they really not gone home since you started training?”
“I admit, it’s not quite typical,” Balam answered, his voice rumbling from his chest to your back as you sat between his crossed legs. You were secretly grateful that the Walter Park incident hadn't caused him to change his skinship ways, even if being nestled in his lap made your heart beat quicker. “But, from what I’ve heard from the other tutors, nothing is typical with the Misfits Class anyways. Like iron, they need to be strengthened and refined by intense fire.”
You glanced up at him briefly. “... you know, you’re one of my closest friends, but I have to admit, I’m glad my dad doesn’t share the same teaching methods as you.”
Balam chuckled as his hand rubbed your shoulders, right where the ache was located from constantly hunching over books. You fought back a hiss of pleasure as his thumb carefully dug into a knot. How did he always know where you needed to be massaged?
“Runes and fighting are two very different subjects. You’re essentially learning a new language as well as how to harness your mana. Whereas with these two, I’m trying to refine their inherent skills." He paused, tilting his head slightly. "Speaking of which, how is Iruma doing?”
Everytime Balam had asked the question previously, Asmodus faltered in his sparring against Sabnock. The pink-haired demon's attention instantly would snap to the small table where you and Balam sat, and allow Sabnock an unfair advantage.
You were pretty sure Balam made sure to mention Iruma at least once a day just to see if he could break him of the habit. Though, Balam did genuinely care about Iruma's progress as well, so perhaps you were being unfair.
Today, however, Az didn’t even seem to hear the mention of Iruma, which you mentally praised the young demon for. Even Balam glanced at Asmodus, and beamed when he realized the demon hadn't been distracted.
“Well, he said the other day he needs to figure out what kind of bow he wanted,” You answered. “Not a strong one, or one to protect, but a unique one to fulfill his goal -- whatever that means.”
“Well, the Barbatos family is known for their unique sharp-shooting abilities," Balam hummed, making a shiver down your spine, warmth pooling in your face as well as somewhere else that you tried to ignore. "Not many demons have the patience to become archers - but I’m sure Iruma is well suited to the task.”
“Patient, determined, persevering no matter what’s thrown at him? That sounds like my boy." You smiled fondly, recalling all the times you were near your wits end back on Earth, and he would determinedly help you out. "I never thought I’d see the day when he’d become ambitious as well, but here we are.”
“I am eager to see how the class as a whole does with the upcoming Harvest Festival.”
You smiled fondly, leaning into him a little more. “Me too, I overheard some students talking about it. It'll be fun to actually be a part of something for once.”
Balam froze, internally panicking at your words. So caught up in everything, he hadn’t even thought about the fact were part of Babyls staff and therefore expected to help out during the festival. After all; between managing the collection stations, rescuing students, and dealing with the consequences of the students getting in over their head, they often needed every bit of help they could find.
But you? In the forest? Magicless, powerless, in a forest filled with things that could easily kill a demon - let alone a human?
While Iruma had proven himself that he was anything but weak and powerless, Balam wasn’t confident about your own ability. If anything, he was convinced of the opposite after seeing you so tired after conjuring just a few Runes in a row.
He leaned in close to your ear so the students wouldn't overhear as he quietly asked: “Are you sure that’s a wise idea?”
"I've been assigned to help tally points between the different teams," You replied back just as quietly. "I'll be stuck at the main tent and likely never stepping out." You tilted your head back and reached up to pat his mask reassuringly, though your positions made it slightly awkward. "I'll be safe, I promise."
Balam slumped with a sigh, wrapping his arms around your shoulders, pulling you close so he could rest his head on yours. "I don't mean to come off as overprotective. I just…"
"You know how… different I am," You finished for him, at ease in his embrace. "And you worry, like a good friend does."
Well, that was sort of true. But he mused if now was a good time to explain that demons didn't quite have 'friends' to worry over, and decided it probably wasn't. After all, he wasn't even certain how to label his feelings, so how could he explain that in concepts you would understand?
--+--
A few weeks later, and the harvest festival was a chaotic mess; one you were happy to stay out of… mostly.
The forest itself was overgrown, with the crowns of the trees so tightly knit together barely any light filtered through, giving it a gloomy foreboding aura. Despite the lack of light, the place was filled with various flora and fauna you had no names for - but knew they would love to kill you given the chance.
Needless to say you were happy to stay in the main tent, working on cataloging everyone's points. It was mundane work, taking the tally sheets that the different stations turned in and updating the student’s records. But it was also vital, making you feel rather included for once.
It was also nice to be around the other staff more, many whom you had only seen in the halls very rarely. Where your desk was situated you were easily able to listen to Suzy and Dali’s commentary, and keep an ear out for updates regarding the Misfit class.
Their remarks on Iruma and Lied familiarizing themselves with the forest didn't surprise you too much. Iruma was rather skilled at surviving in the wild; there had been times he had left the factory for a week or two because his parents had decided gathering wild herbs and mushrooms were more ‘profitable’ than the fishery. So, oddly, you were less anxious about him camping in the foreboding forest than you were about him going to an amusement park for the day.
However, your worries settled on the fact that he and Lied were treating it like a relaxing camping trip, and had ended the first day with absolutely zero points.
You were near-fuming as you looked at the monitor set up near the buffet table, taking a break from the bookwork. You had kept an eye out for his name, and had started to wonder if maybe someone else was keeping his score in fear you would tamper with it, but the monitor confirmed your fears. Day two and they were still at zero points. “I know patience and endurance is a major component,” You growled to yourself more than anything. “But for hell’s sake, Iruma! You can do better than this!”
“He may still catch up,” Balam offered as he appeared beside you, startling you. How could he be so large and move so silently? “There are still a few days left.”
You huffed and crossed your arms. “I know, but still…. Zero? Literally everyone else has at least a few hundred, if not a thousand!”
“True, but only a few have adapted like him and Lied," He pointed out as he picked at the table, looking for things he would be able to eat quickly and discreetly. "Already a fifth of students have withdrawn, and that number will only rise through the night. I think that we could probably see nearly a quarter withdrawing by morning.”
You hadn’t realized it was that many, though you had known the majority of the teachers were out saving students who hadn't been prepared before nightfall made the forest even more deadly. At least most of the Misfits had found a place to camp for the night, safe and secured with each team holding a couple thousand points each.
Well, nearly everyone was settled for the night - except two certain students.
“Az and Sabnock are still going pretty strong, and they already have over fifteen thousand points," You looked up at him and gave him a little conspiratorial smile as you nudged him lightly. "I bet you’re pretty proud.”
The change of topic made Balam smile rather bashfully under his mask, which you could tell just by the expression in his eyes as he looked away, scratching his neck as it turned pink. “A little,” He admitted before his expression changed. “Though, I’m disappointed Asmodeus reverted to using his evil cycle so early. But Sabnock pulled him out just as I instructed. Even if they don’t win, this event will strengthen their skills significantly. Honestly, this is an excellent opportunity to test their skills on the battlefield while still providing a controlled environment.”
He was very proud of his students, and it made you smile as he continued to discuss the pros and cons of the events and his thoughts on his proteges’ progress. And honestly, you could've easily stayed there just sipping at tea while listening to him talk, except you noticed the pile on your make-shift desk was quickly continuing to grow while people came and went.
After a moment, Balam noticed your expression wilting as you stared past him, and looked to see the towering stack. His hand found yours, squeezing lightly to catch your attention. “I’ve kept you long enough, do you need help?”
Your smile returned, though looking more tired than anything. “Nah, it’s the only way I can contribute. Besides, I’m sure they could use your help out there with the students.”
He looked towards the chaos and sighed himself. “You’re right," He paused for a moment before almost shyly offering: "Perhaps we could enjoy some tea together afterwards? Once you're caught up and the chaos has settled?”
You felt your face warm as you nodded, “I’d love that. Maybe somewhere private enough you can eat properly too, okay?”
His smile returned, along with a deep blush. His free hand reached up and cupped your cheek, thumb brushing your skin softly. "That would be wonderful."
--+--
When someone dropped papers on your desk, you didn’t look up anymore. There was no time as you crunched away at the numbers, desperate to get a handle on the pile before morning broke and the students started their hunts once more.
Two more days. Just two more days of this.
However, when the demon delivering the latest batch didn’t move but cleared their throat, you finally looked up. Momonoki smiled, though there seemed something rather… mischievous about it. “How are you doing?”
“Uh, good?" Honestly, you were exhausted - and knew if you were extremely lucky, you might get a few hours of sleep before the morning came. But, you were more curious about why Momonoki was making conversation when you barely had said more than a word to the other teacher since you started. “Uh, how about yourself?”
“Oh, you know, same old, same old,” She waved before leaning closer, her smile growing even larger. “So, I heard a rumor from Raim that Lord Sullivan confirmed you and Balam are courting.”
Courting? Your mind blanked for a moment before frantically making the realization of what she was implying. Courting. Dating.
You and Balam. Dating.
"W-what?" You spluttered, your face becoming red-hot. "C-courting?"
"It's so cute!" She squeed, pressing her hands to her heart before her smile fell slightly. "Granted, Balam is quite… odd. Okay, he's very odd, but still! A forbidden romance in the halls of Babyls!" She sighed almost dreamily, lost in her own inner world and oblivious to your growing plight. "The mysterious unranked daughter of the Great Lord Sullivan, returning with an unclaimed child to her father's home! And then the fearsome White Gargoyle of Babyls, who finally found someone to look past his flaws for the demon beneath. And then trying to keep their love hidden from society because they know how much everyone would disapprove of such a match! It's a love story fit for a novel!"
You couldn't even think of a response, just stare blankly as her words sunk in, your mind trying to reconcile her words with reality.
A forbidden romance. Unclaimed child. Disapproving society. Secret love.
You.
Balam.
Momonoki took your stunned silence for something radically different as she winked, a finger pressed to her lips. "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me! As long as you share the juicy details later, you lucky devil!"
You gaped as she left, still giggling to herself as she returned to the forest.
Courting. Balam.
Yes, you could admit you had a crush on him. And that he was very attractive (and you were kinda miffed Momonoki implied otherwise).
But you had tempered the emotion - suppressing it. You were intent to be happy as just friends. After all, there was no way he would be romantically interested in you! Not when he sometimes acted like you were some rare exotic creature he was studying.
And now there are rumors going around? Perpetuated by your own adopted family?!
You just wanted to find a hole and hide. The rumors were going to go around the school like wildfire; and how were you going to face him - or anyone - after that?
You grabbed your phone, work be damned as you started typing angrily.
--+--
//Why do people think I'M COURTING BALAM?! What does that even mean?!//
Lord Sullivan chuckled to himself. He had been wondering how long it would take the rumor to reach you. It probably wasn't right for him to spread the gossip he had heard amongst the students. But when he had met with the tutors of the Misfits --barring Balam who had his own duties-- well, he couldn't resist when they posed questions about his 'unknown' daughter.
They all had wanted to know what kind of demon could raise a child like Iruma. And well, he had to cover both of your identities without raising too much suspicion. And what was a better way then to distract them with a little juicy gossip?
//To be fair, my dear, the rumor has been circulating since the beginning of the semester// He started, remembering hearing the details from Ronovoe Rosevelt himself. While he could hardly see any of it being true, it had given him a similar idea to the revised version that spread through the school.
You and Balam would make a very cute couple. And Balam could certainly keep you safe. //But I might have accidentally talked about how happy I would be if you and Balam were courting. You two are just so adorable together. Opera and Raim even agreed with me!//
That was a brief summary. He didn't need to include the pictures he had taken of when you were engrossed in a conversation, or when he sighted you and Balam together. How Raim excitedly started jumping to conclusions that he didn't bother correcting.
//what? WHAT?? THAT ANSWERS NOTHING! Dad!//
//oh ho ho, my beautiful princess! Don't worry so much!//
Soon, Opera's phone chimed, making both demons pause in their stroll back to the school. Sullivan easily peered over the security demon's shoulder, confirming his suspicions.
//OPERA! How serious is courting?//
Opera barely paused before quickly typing back: //I have an important matter to attend. If you have questions about courting, I suggest you ask Balam >;3//
Lord Sullivan chuckled as Opera sent the message with a straight face before pocketing the phone. "It seems Raim' and Momonoki's love for gossip is stronger than we realized."
"How do you think he'll react once he hears?" Sullivan asked, and Opera tilted their head as they thought.
"Hmmm, it depends on whether he's realized things yet, or if he’s been as oblivious as she has. Either way, it'll be quite amusing."
--+--
Just outside the main tent, you held back a scream as you read Opera's response.
Those two were in on this. They really did start the rumors!
--+-- Su-Ki-Ma --+--
"These two had better be lying about Professor Balam," Asmodeus growled to Sabnock, his eyes narrowed at the Doro-Doro Brothers ahead of them.
"Oh?" Sabnock wasn't paying complete attention to his partner, and instead keeping a keen eye out for more high-ranking ingredients. He was still determined not only to show-up the two demons ahead of them, but when the festival itself.
"If he really is a womanizer and breaks Iru-mama -- I mean Ms Suzuki's-- heart, I will find a way to break him." Even if it meant enlisting the help of his own mother - Az swore he would do it. Not only were you Iruma's mother, but you were a respectable demon in your own right, showing the same traits he adored in your son.
To think that their instructor that he had respected had such a side hidden from them. Yes, demons had many sides to them, but this was nearly unbelievable.
Sabnock paused once he finally processed Az's words. "Wait, do you think those two are actually together?"
Az scoffed, "Have you not been paying attention when she visits?" He certainly had, and to him it was impossible to miss how their teacher's attention shifted from being focused on working them to the bone to being completely enraptured by you as soon as you entered the room.
Or how you brightened as soon as you saw the giant demon. Yes, you waved to him and Sabnock in their training, showing that compassion so rare in a demon, but a blind person could see who had your true attention.
"They're both odd," Sabnock excused with a shrug, apparently not as convinced. "Between the professor's skinship and Ms. Suzuki's 'mother hen' nature or whatever - plus they're both nerds about imaginary creatures. Who can really tell with those two?"
There was no denying both adults had their oddities that set them apart from the rest of Babyls' faculty. But… "I am unfortunately very familiar with the signs of infatuation." And you both had them in droves.
"So you believe the rumors from Walter Park?"
It was Az's turn to be confused. "Rumors?"
Sabnock grinned as he imparted his knowledge to the other student, if only to see Az pale before turning a deeper pink than his hair. Though from anger or embarrassment, Sabnock wasn't sure.
Either way, their teacher was likely going to have an awkward conversation after the festival. Especially when the rest of the Misfits discovered the rumor.

I wanna start by saying that I do not mean to shame or talk down to anybody when making this kind of post.
But we gotta talk about writing formats and stuff. Now, I'm not gonna act like I'm some sort of super, in-depth reader who just LOVES to read and knows everything, I don't, in fact, I kinda hate reading but I gotta do it to learn how to write better which is what I enjoy doing. I love writing, that's what I like to do, the reading part is what bores me.
But even tho I dislike reading that doesn't mean I'm gonna ignore the structure and formats cuz I don't like reading and don't wanna learn.
Lately, I noticed there are a lot of fic writers that take some questionable takes when it comes to writing and lemme start by saying that while I believe we all have different writing styles, a style is different from the basic structure.
I'm talking about the recent influx of fics in ao3 that are wall posts, have no dialogue division, or smash two characters talking into the same paragraph.
I know tiktok LOVES to lie to y'all for the sake of clout and attention (I have seen people making very STUPID takes when it comes to writing there) but I promise you that nobody is gonna kill you for having a good writing structure that follows the norm cuz it is the norm for a reason.
Here are two examples of my own writing (this is all unbeta/unfixed) on the left side is the regular structure you'll follow when writing a regular novel, and on the right is what I use when writing fanfiction.
Both are GOOD for their given purpose.
Dialogue between characters is separated so you understand it is another character talking and if there is a description between the dialogue it is still the same character talking after.
The paragraphs are separated and it is clear when a new action is happening and another one ends. It makes it easy for readers to follow what is happening.
I cannot believe I have to say this but JUST USE THE WORD SAID. He said, she said, they said, that bitch said. If you just want to clarify who is talking, just use said. If you have a long dialogue between characters and wanna make sure the reader is still following along, then just throw in the word said here and there and add a small action. Contrary to what dumbasses say on the internet, using the word said is there to GUIDE THE READER INTO KNOWING WHO IS TALKING. That's the purpose it has, if it is a dialogue between two characters then it is easier and you don't have to spam it but please, sometimes simplicity goes a long way.
Separate your dialogue between characters
Tell your reader who is talking.
Separate your paragraphs
And for the love of god, please, don't take writing advice from tiktok kids that only consume fanfiction. Instead, read novels and books, yeah it blows if you hate reading and English isn't your first language (like me) but that's how you are gonna get better at it. I'm not saying fanfiction isn't at the same level as novels/books but for the most part, books/novels are constructed and formatted in a way that you can learn something from them and apply it to your writing.
Think of it as a reference, just like artists use references to get better at drawing, your reference is other books that'll teach you and help you do better.
#fanfcition#fanfic#ao3#archive of our own#writing#please#i'm tired#writing advice#english ain't even my first language so I shouldn't speak about this#but pleeeease#fan fiction#fanfic writing#ao3 fanfic

@rosekoite asked me to say more about assertive communication due to this post. This is very simplified but here we go.
⚠️ LONG POST! ⚠️
INTRODUCTION
Assertiveness is the ability to express yourself truthfully and honestly while respecting yourself and others, in a way that's adequate contextually and based on your personal goals. The purpose of assertive communication is to be authentic and honest with ourselves and others. Period. Its point is NOT to obtain things from others and it's NOT a "better" or more efficient way of communicating in that sense.
In fact, very importantly, sometimes assertive communication IS NOT the best choice. For example, there are work situations during which you won't choose to be assertive and honest with your boss if you want to keep your job. There's a time and place for assertive communication and it's a choice you have to make depending on what's important to you at that time (eg keeping your job or being authentic?).
So why choose assertive communication when you can? When used adequately, it helps you clarify your needs, thoughts, and opinions. It makes you feel more in line with yourself. It teaches you to listen to yourself, and to express yourself and your needs. It helps with self confidence, self esteem, and trust in others. It can also help during conflicts. It makes you feel more in control of your life and better overall. I'd say it also helps with mentalizing, which is the ability to understand your and other people's mental states.
TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
Communication between two people works like this :
The responsibility is shared 50/50 between the two people. As the source, you're responsible for expressing all the relevant information clearly, honestly, and in a way that's coherent verbally and non verbally. As the receiver, you're responsible for being available and attentive. However, the message also goes through the context of your relationship, as well as a communication channel (aka it's not the same thing to talk face to face, on the phone, or by text), and this can lead to misunderstandings and distorsions.
According to this model there are different types of communications that we may all use at different times :
Inhibited behavior leads you to not express how you feel or what you think because you feel like you're less entitled to do so than others, you're scared you're going to be judged, or you put others needs and opinions before your own.
Aggressive behavior leads you to force how you feel and think upon others, and not leave any space for them to express themselves. You do not listen to what they have to say, and do not take what they feel and think into account.
Manipulative behavior can be lying, or just not being completely truthful about how you feel or what you think, but also irony, sarcasm, any type of communication that's indirect (making light of things that aren't, making someone else express your opinion for you, exaggerating, etc.)
Now the goal of assertive behavior is to minimize the distorsions and respect the 50/50 division of the responsibility in the communication by expressing truthfully and directly how you feel and what you think, without justifying yourself, in a way that's coherent on the verbal and non verbal level.
Again it doesn't mean it will "work" in the end in the sense of producing your desired outcome. However it will work in 1) respecting yourself by expressing yourself instead of silencing yourself 2) respecting the other party by not overpowering them 3) being honest, truthful, and authentic.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN IN PRACTICE?
Assertiveness requires 3 things :
Attitude : being sincere, honest with yourself and others, but also open to hearing their side of things and accepting that it might be different to yours
Involvement : talking about yourself, your emotions, and your thoughts as long as they're not disrespectful to the other party. Do NOT generalise. This is about YOU.
Precision : stay focused on a specific, clear aspect of things. If you're talking about something else, focus on behaviors and not character. Try to stay on the factual side of things rather than get into opinions.
EXAMPLES :
COMPLIMENT SOMEONE
(eg you like someone's content)
Don't : your blog is cool! (you're not involved, you're not precise!)
Do : I love the edits you post on your blog, I find them really beautiful.
RECEIVE A COMPLIMENT
(eg someone likes your edits)
Don't : aw thanks! or nah it's nothing! (you're maybe not honest, you're not involved, you're not precise!)
Do : I really appreciate your kind words it makes me very happy OR if you honestly disagree with the compliment which is ok as well thank you, I'm not too happy with this edit myself
EXPRESS A NEED, ASK FOR SOMETHING
(eg you're getting disrespectful anons)
Don't : not say anything or answer them kindly anyway or answer them unkindly (it's not precise, it's not honest, it's not involved)
Do : I would like it if you were more polite next time, I don't like being talked to that way
(remember : sometimes being assertive is not the best choice, you don’t need to engage every hateful anon, this is an example)
SAY NO, NEGOTIATE
(eg your anon is demanding you write the next chapter of your fic)
Don't : sorry I will get to it as soon as I can or fuck off anon or the problem is I'm having so much work and I broke my favorite mug and... (you're not honest! you're not precise! you're justifying yourself!)
Do : No. You can elaborate depending on how you feel IF YOU WANT but be careful not to start justifying yourself : I feel pressured when you keep asking or I'm worried you're going to be disappointed with me, but I can't/don't want to right now.
EXPRESS CRITICISM, DISAGREE
(eg anon is hateful again)
Don't : fuck you or you're an idiot (you're getting overwhelmed by your emotions, you're generalizing, you're not precise, you're not involved)
Do : I understand that you are frustrated but it hurts me when you do this / I don’t appreciate the way you’re talking to me (and I will not accept it)
RECEIVE CRITICISM
When receiving criticism, we will initially assume the person is justified and not wishing us harm.
Don't : you're just being a hater fuck you or omg they're right I suck as a person (you're getting overwhelmed by your emotions, you're not precise, you're not listening)
Do : clarify if necessary I don't understand what I did wrong can you explain it to me? then either agree and commit to doing better I admit that I was too aggressive in my answer and I will be more mindful from now or don't agree and ask for clarification I was not aggressive towards you so can you clarify what it is that made you angry?
BUT! Maybe the person is unjustified and does wish us harm! If so, there's several possibilities
You want to keep the relationship : clarify (if necessary or if they’re attacking your character instead of criticizing specific behaviors) + concede more or less vaguely + ask the person to do better in return = I'm sorry I don't understand what I did wrong can you explain it to me? [...] Okay I hear you, there's stuff I'm doing that you don't like. I want to say it's not clear to me what you're unhappy with and it makes me confused, I would like it if you were more precise so I can do better next time.
You want to keep the relationship but the person is taking it too far : refuse the confrontation = I refuse to talk to you when you're talking to me that way / I want to talk this through with you but I'm not feeling heard right now so I'll come back later + physically LEAVE
You don't care about the relationship : stay vague + stop the conversation + leave = It's your opinion, I'm not interested in talking about this further + LEAVE
These are all very simplified examples and it may seem a bit artificial at first but it gets easier with practice. Remember to 1) talk about yourself 2) be honest 3) be precise.
On the other hand, you also need to handle the other 50% of the communication aka receiving. Listen and be attentive. Accept that they might not agree with you, might think differently, might not be able to give you what you want. We're not trying to convince anyone here, we're just trying to be honest with ourselves and others.
Finally I want to remind everyone that as with all psychological tools, it is a TOOL and some people will use it in wrong ways. First of all, using these as a way to obtain things from people is NOT assertive communication, it's manipulation. Second of all, it doesn't mean that this tool is not useful when used properly!

Orbeetle Facts
(I have one named Joker and the entire time I was writing this, he was floating around and trying to type on it. I just felt the need to share this)
(Art by isoptin on Deviantart)
-The genus name for the Orbeetle line is "Coccinella Praedica" which roughly translates to "Scarlet Prediction"
-Because of their appearance, with their eyes being all swirls, their antenna looking like angry eyebrows, markings resembling a mustache, etc, they're often Pokemon chosen to be the smart villains in a lot of comics and movies
-Unlike most other flying (not flying type; just bugs thst fly) Bug Pokemon, Orbeetle's elytra don't protect any wings. They instead use it to protect their brain. The elytra evolved to be small buds from lack of use
-Orbeetle are related to the Ledyba line, with both of them having a common ancestor
-Orbeetle's name comes from Orb and Beetle, which would make Orbeetle sound like orbital, referencing the way it moves around (similar to a satellite)
-Because of their gigantimax form, there are theories saying that Orbeetle came from space. These theories are not true, and I can not express enough how misinformed this theory is
-Orbeetle have a very violent mating ritual. I won't go into detail, but it involves biting, scratching, stabbing, dragging, etc. They also have a very violent way of protecting their eggs, and I'll link the post talking about it at the end
-Orbeetle have been known to have hypnotize other pokemon and make them their 'minions' that would do anything they ask of them
-Because of their intense psychic abilities, Orbeetle are able to sense things with their antenna 15x more likely than the average bug pokemon
-Due to their intelligence, it is actually possible to teach an orbeetle how to read and solve math problems! There was an instance in 2015 Galar where an Orbeetle learned how to solve long division
-Orbeetle are known to be very violent Pokemon in general. We can easily understand where this came from; they're often bullied, picked on, and hunted by larger Pokemon, and the only thing they have going for them is their wits. But when they evolve, they have both the strength and intelligence to get revenge. They end up being really violent and vengeful as Orbeetle
-Going from the fact above, it can be very hard to befriend an Orbeetle if they weren't caught as a Blipbug or Dottler. In the wild, you'll often see Orbeetle have Pokemon close to them that were with them when they were still a Blipbug
-Because of their absolutely massive brain, they aren't able to stand up without using their psychic powers
-Orbeetle are violent hunters, and mostly ear smaller and weaker bug types (never Blipbug though. They tend to leave them alone). But there were some cases where they have taken down Scolipede
-Despite not being from space, Orbeetle actually do surprisingly well there
(Art by artsy-rc on Danbooru)
-There eyes have a hypnotic effect on them, which will swirl when hypnotizing someone
-Female Orbeetle have larger abdomens than male Orbeetle
-In the rare instances when Ledian and Orbeetle interacted, Orbeetle were shown to be passive and even quite friendly with them. This was a large shock to researchers, since Orbeetle would usually attack bug pokemon similar to Ledian. The most popular theory they have is that Orbeetle might see themselves in Ledian, with both of them being Coccinellidae pokemon
-In many spiritualities, the number 7 symbolizes intellect, wise, insight, truthfulness, and intuition. I theorize that this came from Orbeetle
-While Blipbug are seen as pests by a lot of farmers, Orbeetle are seen as a good thing for farmers since they eat the Pokemon that would eat their crops
-Orbeetle are not very affectionate with their trainers, but they'll often give gifts to them to show they care
(Art by Inesanemona on zerochan)
Joker is still hovering, so I decided to let him type something:
"Helo ddhduishejslauwbebfjdbsjsndx"
-Joker (I taught him how to spell "Hello." Be nice. He is still learning)
Anyways, here's the other Orbeetle post
#ooc: made ledian and orbeetle get along because its an alien and ufo#ooc: and there also doesnt always need to be a reason we csn wxplain yet#ooc: like how alligators will judt leave manatees alone and scientists still dont know why#orbeetle#blipbug#dottler#pokemon#pokemon irl#irl pokemon#pkmn irl#irl pkmn#pokeblog#pokeblogging#pokeblr#rotomblr#rotumblr#pokemon roleplay#bug types#psychic types

ok! it's time for a ds9 update. last night we squeezed in "move along home" and "the nagus."
move along home (ds9):
i am Informed this is a divisive episode but honestly i had fun w it!!
nice 2 see jake always. every time jake is on screen w his dad sisko my best friend sisko get to exude good dad energy. love that.
like. please. he's gonna give jake the talk? at 14??? 14 is too late. he knows everything. also lmao the fact that nog there ferengi where women don't wear clothes told him everything. i'm choosing to ignore my annoyance with ferengis as a whole and find that funny because of sisko's reaction
reasonably funny antics between quark and odo here. i am getting a little tired of odo not getting anything to do besides flirt with quark, but then i have to remind myself that odo had an episode all to himself quite literally six episodes ago, it's just our insane watch order + bad batch and natla coming out that makes it feel longer to me
quark like screaming on his knees begging not to have to put someone to death when nbody was gonna die anyway was actually really funny, but i do like the nuance in his kneejerk reaction when he found out the pieces were people, which was to forsake pride and ask odo to play for him. he could have gotten defensive for the bit, which he did do later, but his first reaction was to be scared which is like completely normal and went a long way towards humanizing him in an otherwise VERY silly episode
my favorite moment of this episode, besides the part where they hotboxed the shap, was when those little balls of light were coming towards them and sisko was like FIND COVER and julian bashir, instead of finding cover, stood directly aainst the wall they were aiming at, ass first. and then died. i want that twink obliterated.png
the nagus (ds9):
thank you to whomstever warned me about this episode
it was not good and it did suck bad. i think this was the first real dud ds9 gave us (i'm not counting the q one cuz that was basically a tng episode in disguise). i feel like it would be sooo easy to walk back some of the really awful elements of the ferengi but instead of doing that we have chosen to crank them up to 11. sexism, antisemitism, etc etc...
my other problem is that. and before anyone gets mad i have a touch of faceblindness. I CANNOT TELL THOSE FERENGI APART. they gave two of the ferengi the same nose and i was totally lost trying to follow the plot.
quark holding the idiot ball. he's dumb in his own way because everyone on that space station is using their last brain cell but he's also very shrewd. so it just felt off. and again odo had nothing to do except flirt with him but that's a me problem
BUGS FOR DINNER. i hated this episode in more ways than one
THAT SAID. we finally got to see o'brien again! and shockingly i really really really really liked the b plot
i did go blind with rage when nog got pulled out of school. yes. but the rest of it.
first of all it's really funny that jake is running around with nog all the time and their families are both going DON'T!!! and sisko is like Oh No My Son Has Discovered Girls when there is every evidence he is even now discovering boys
SECONDLY sisko reminding o'brien that one day his adorable little three year old will be 14 and the light leaving o'brien's eyes
but my favorite part is that jake wasn't being late to curfew because he's a bad kid or falling under a bad influence. he's a GOOD kid doing an AWESOME thing. idk, it was really sweet that like, even when sisko was like "yeah racism's bad but with ferengi it's different" jake was like "is it? :/" and then went right on teaching his buddy how to read. and now he's earned dad's permission to hang out with nog finally. it was a fun little subplot that i didn't realize was going anywhere and then it did. a very pleasant surprise and kept the episode from being a complete drag.
also, dax coming it and daintily sampling sisko's soup or whatever, then deftly getting rid of sisko so she could help herself to a giant heap lmao. queen
anyway, even though that's definitely been the worst ds9 ep so far, it wasn't NEARLY as bad as some of tng's duds. i'm thinking specifically of "code of honor," "violations," etc. like it could have been so much worse. i'm not going to delude myself into thinking we're past all the clunkers just yet, but i was still expecting a solid hour of agony and what i got was not that. not good by any means but not tng. whew!
TONIGHT: "starship mine" and "lessons" from tng. thots and prayers🙏

North Yankton era headcanons (part 2):
Michael being the only one out of the North Yankton trio who has a “normal” living situation
Trevor probably lived in different, shitty, rent by the week/month motel rooms, and Brad lived in like a busted up old apartment, in a mostly condemned complex, that he rented by the month
Both Trevor and Brad coming over to Michael’s “grown up” house and being fascinated, like- “your shower always has hot water?”, “you own a dishwasher?”, “the heater works?!”
They both love coming to Michael’s house because Amanda cooks real food instead of getting take out or convenience store food every night
Trevor being able to convince Michael to let him crash on his couch a few days a month, especially during the freezing, North Yankton winter because wherever he’s staying has poor to no heating
Trevor staying in some rundown place during the winter and almost getting himself killed by lighting a trash can fire inside to stay warm
Michael blowing some of his savings doing dumb stuff, but saving a good bit of it to take care of his family- while Trevor and Brad blow through the majority of theirs the second they get it on drugs and strippers
Trevor asked Lester if he could stay over once when he got kicked out of a motel he was staying at- Lester said no and T is still bitter about it
Trevor inviting Brad over, and as the night goes on, and they get drunk, it spirals into Trevor trying to teach Brad something further than basic math. It dissolves into a fight when Brad can’t get past long division
Michael inviting them over for a game night so they can try things “normal people” do for once. Brad hits Trevor with a draw 4 during uno, and Trevor pulls out a gun and sits it on the table. Michael never asks them over for a game night again
Trevor and Michael just going on drives- when Trevor is having a particularly hard time or Michael and Amanda are arguing. They’d just get in the car and drive around together for hours on end sometimes
Trevor trying to teach M and B how to golf, or ice skate, or play hockey with him. But they both suck so bad at it that he gets irritated and gives up
M and T having inside jokes or talking about stories that happened before Brad was around, and Brad secretly getting jealous that he’ll never be to Trevor what Michael is
Trevor, a few months post-Ludendorff, coming back to North Yankton and driving out to some abandoned little farm he and Michael used to go out to to share a bottle of alcohol and talk at. He buys the same cheap brand of booze they’d drink, pulls into the old driveway, gets drunk and talks to himself like Michael is still with him in the passenger’s seat

Quite Time 2/28
What am I feeling today?
I just wish I had gone to bed earlier. I’m very tired and know I have a long day ahead of me. I also didn’t finish all my work so I’m stressed about a couple of those deadlines🥲
Sermon: The Lord Declares War! (Part 3/3)
Exodus 5:22 NIV
“Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me?”
we can relate to Moses here (why would God send us to do His work when it doesn't turn out the way we planned?) We can get discouraged and in our own head about it but keep reminding yourself that God’s plan is far greater than we can ever imagine for ourselves.
2) God Declares War on Counterfeit Imitations of the Truth!
ask yourself: am I fighting God in in any way? In what este/areas of my life and I resisting Him? Is there still something I’m holding on to?
I can get moody and distant. I can let how I’m feeling take control of me instead of being in control of my emotions.
Exodus 7:1-7 NIV
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them. Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.”
This plagues were meant to humble the Egyptians (leading the question of whether we declare war on false doctrines - bc they had their many gods) not that many people want to be entertained and not saved.
Lastly, I do wonder why it says God hardened Pharaoh’s heart. I believe it’s been explained to me but I don’t remember and wonder why? Why do that? Since He had the power to harden, why didn’t He choose to soften? Or would that just not have worked in the grand scheme of things?
1 Timothy 1:3-8 NIV
“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.”
The law is good if we know how to use it properly! No false teachings! There are some people that claim to teach of Jesus and Christianity but it is not biblically sound and therefore is a false teaching.
2 Timothy 3:7-9 NIV
“always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.”
With those In sin, we are meant to call them out (in love) and even here is an example of calling out people by name.
Romans 8:1-4 NIV
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Communion: what does the cross mean to [……]?
To him it meant liberation!

I was tagged by @gretchensinister, who has given me water, aim, plan, wish, and leaf. I'll do the MalVa WIP again, because it just passed the 30k mark and it's consuming my brain.
water: 40 uses
SkekMal slowed his breathing with effort and focused on the rushing of the water. The woods were silent, most other creatures having fled from the scent of blood and open bowel. They would return for the carrion. Some might be worth hunting, if he cared to stick around. There were good, strong trees here to perch in; he could wash away the last of the Castle stench, repaint himself with sap, and disappear.
aim: 1
He could remain out in the world and keep doing everything by halves, as befitted half a person, he supposed. Cheat around the continued insult of his presence on Thra—like a liar. Give advice, but only in riddles. Teach others to shoot, so they could aim where he could not. Keep one eye on his skeksis, tempering him when he could. Enact the Song without acting upon Thra. Find out how invisibly thin a thread could get before it snapped all by itself.
plan: 17
“We will solve this,” he said softly. “Even he… cannot make it here… in only one day. Tomorrow, we will all plan together.” UrVa hummed and rested his chin on urGoh’s shoulder.
wish: 6
In your tree, you sit and make your call through the sinking of the suns, into the purple-tinted hour when the firebugs flicker on their predatory lights. It’s a low, fluid chant in the language of your birth that goes on a long while before starting over. You got the idea from a bird, voiced much higher and sweeter than you, her call so intricate that the pattern seems lost by the end, only to retrieve itself and repeat. You’ve become an expert mimic, but this call is your own. It makes other creatures unwary. There’s a murky story, passing into legend, of one whose singing brought about the Division. You don’t think it was you—the one who broke apart to make you—but you wish it had been, because they gave your kind everything. They gave you the world. Honor them with your song.
leaf: 0, but leaves: 7
They weren’t fighting on the day when they had discovered something mystics didn’t know about themselves. They lay tangled together at the bottom of a gully, screened from sight under thick brambles and drifts of fallen leaves. They’d lost their clothes a while ago. They were lazily playing a game that had started when urVa realized skekMal had two heartbeats instead of one—that they had three hearts between them. What else was different?
Hmmm I'll tag @darrenious, @sylphidine, @caffeinatedpoltergeist, @phenyxsnest to find try, borrow, delight, blue, and star.
#gretchensinister#meme#thank you :D#as you can see I'm testing out the wack capitalization rules set forth in canon#undecided yet whether I like it#but it did fix the problem where I kept typing the wrong names because everyone's name starts with U or S :P

"Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit." From Mark 3: 23-30.
Now Jesus explains how certain parties...certain parties come to be involved in exorcisms in just Seven Days.
Impure spirits are persons who keep licking at religion like dogs licking sores never finding one bit of solace. Further, they are characterized as being rude, lawless, malicious, ignorant, listless, useless, and do not even pretend to notice what is happening in the world around them.
So long as the wicked and the righteous, devils and angels, saints and sloppies inhabit the same planet, there will be a contest between religion, the real life God made and His Gospel Torah which explains how to live it.
Satan embodies this contest. Satan is not a real being, that is ridiculous. The word means "purposeful wrong turns":
"The familiar noun שטן (satan) means adversary and in the Bible this word mostly does not denote some archetypal Evil One. Instead our noun refers to anyone or anything (including the Angel of the Lord) that aims to prevent something or someone else from its or his proper or intended course, irrespective of whether that course is good or bad, or whether the opposition is good or bad.
The derived verb שטן (satan) means to be an adversary; to obstruct or lay in the way. Noun שטנה (sitna) denotes a kind of written or formal notice that aims to stop a certain proceeding; something like a modern Cease And Desist notice.
It's unclear where our noun comes from, but candidates are: the verb שוט (sut), to swerve or fall away, or the verb שטה (sata), to turn aside. It may even have something to do with the verb שתן (shatan), to urinate."
Satan is a piss boy. It is the role of the Holy Spirit to bind the piss boy, civlize him, bring him to his senses and turn his house back over to him. An exorcism is not complete until there is complete harmonal unity within the seat of the mind about who not what is in control:
23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?
24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.
27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.
28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter,
29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”
30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”
The Values in Gematria are:
v. 23: Jesus began to speak in parables. Parables are magic spells that convince demons to leave. Parables teach us to think about the self as if it were someone else so we can decode it.
The Number is זחטט, zaht, "oneness with the identity."
v. 24-25: If a kindom is divided, if a house is divided. The Jewish concept of the Self is based on the delusion that somehow infinity can undergo division. It can if one thinks it can; we are always of our own independent minds, there is no way to stop doing that. To join with Ha Shem, the mind must stop. This requires a method and one of them is to turn the mind the right way:
"The verb פלג (palag) means to split or divide. This root appears to be mostly associated with canals (digging them or dividing lands with them) and the verb occurs a mere three times in the Bible: in Genesis 10:25, Job 38:25 and Psalm 55:9. This verb's derivatives are:
The masculine noun פלג (peleg), meaning channel or canal (Isaiah 30:25, Lamentations 3:48).
The feminine noun פלגה (pelagga), meaning stream (Job 20:17) or division (Judges 5:15).
The highly similar feminine noun פלגה (pelugga), meaning division (2 Chronicles 35:5 only).
The feminine noun מפלגה (miplagga), also meaning division (2 Chronicles 35:12 only)."
The Number is 5018, ןיח, "rest" AKA meditation is the only way to find Ha Shem, the Holy Spirit and still remain in the body. Notice the etymology says it is like being immersed in a channel or a stream. For me it was like a dam opened and sunlight spilled out and engulfed me, others might experience this in some other way.
v. 26: Satan opposes himself. The Number is 2569, בהוט , "hot."
Hotness is almost always spoken of positively unless one is a legend in one's own mind:
The verb חמם (hamam) means to be hot or warm, and that usually in the physical sense (Exodus 16:21, Haggai 1:6). Sometimes it's used to describe a non-physical heat: determination (Psalm 39:3), non-sexual excitation (Isaiah 57:5), and sexual-excitation (of animals only - Genesis 30:38).
Its derivations are:
The masculine noun חם (hom), meaning heat (Genesis 8:22, Jeremiah 17:8).
The adjective חם (ham), meaning hot (Joshua 9:12, Job 37:17).
The feminine noun חמה (hamma), meaning heat, typically of the sun (Psalm 19:6). In poetic passages, this word is used as substitute for the word שמש (shemesh), meaning sun (Isaiah 24:23, Job 30:28).
The masculine noun חמן (hamman) and its plural form חמנים (hammanim), denoting small pillars used in idolatrous worship (Leviticus 26:30, Isaiah 27:9)."
v. 27: In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house without tying him up.
Tying up refers to the Devarim.
From Deut. 11:18:
"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."
The Number is 3730, לזל, "for nothing."
Some things in life are forbidden:
The particle לא (lo') or לוא (lo') is the Hebrew primary particle of prohibition. There are some others (a set perhaps comparable to the English "not", "un-", "dis-" etc.). It's the Hebrew non-negotiable "no-that-means-no", which obviously occurs all over the Bible, from Genesis 2:5 to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21, and up to Malachi 4:1.
On rare occasions our particle becomes a noun meaning nothing or nought (Job 6:21), and often it occurs combined with other particles:
בלא (belo) literally means "in not", and may be translated with without (Jeremiah 22:13), not through (Job 30:28), outside of (Leviticus 15:25), before (Job 15:32).
הלא (helo) appears to reflect a rhetorical question, inviting an affirmative answer: is/are not? (Genesis 13:19, Deuteronomy 3:11, 1 Kings 11:41).
ולא (wlo) combines the particle of conjunction with our particle of negation: and not, or: and if not, etc. (2 Samuel 13:26, Obadiah 1:16).
ללא (lelo) literally means (in the elegant words of BDB Theological Dictionary): "in the condition of no" (2 Chronicles 13:9, Job 26:2, Isaiah 65:1).]
v. 28: Truly I tell you people can be forgiven... on the condition of withdrawal, complete remission, God says sin can be forgiven.
The Number is 4992, בדטט , in DTT, there is no religion.
There is no such thing as religion so long as man's house, his ethics, morals, beliefs, and commitments remain divided.
To prove it exists, that it is real, I press on the governments of this planet and their populations to read the Script and do what it says without arguing or hesitating. So far this has been immensely frustrating and a total disappointment.
=
v. 29: Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. To sign the Name of God to an act of immorality or what is not legal cannot be forgiven as it misleads the people and divides the house. Similarly, leaving law enforcement to the birds as the Biden White House has done in the matter of the Repubican Party and its excommunicable offenses is not forgiveable. Too many people have died, others wish they had.
The Number is 8053, ףןג, millet, "one's own rules rather than rule of law." Personal laws are forbidden. We have allowed a large number of people to make their own rules and nothing is working...
v. 30: He said this because: The Number is 3565, גהוה, geha, "they were turning back from the Law."
So blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is incurred when one is in a position or authority and one decides for whatever reason, not to do one's duty causing loss of life, limb, and prosperity from the land. Any threat to national security and self-definition in a civil society is blasphemy against God.

DevLog 2
We are at log 2 and real life has already got in the way. As I don't got a lot to show off I'll post some non-spoilery asset stuff and hide the rambling under read more.
While I did get a good chunk of the script done, there is still plenty of dialogue I need to get to. As a result, I didn't get any maps done. I'm trying to make this game with RPG Paper Maker's strengths in mind, but every once in awhile I'll realize I made an assumption of what the engine can do and the script has to be put on pause because of it. For example, a lot of this game I had already planned out having pictures on screen for more cinematic scenes. Literally two days ago I realized I don't actually know how to do that in the engine. Thankfully there is a Discord for RPGPM and the people there have been a huge help.
To supplement my question I had drawn a reference of what I meant; it's nothing significant I just think it looks funny.
I'm probably not going to show off the script itself because words on a doc isn't terribly interesting. Here are talk sprites in the mean time.
In order they are Holly, Jim, and Micheal. I might talk more about them next month.
Grant herself I debating making a talk sprite for, I probably will in the end but I'm wondering if how she reacts in those sections should be left up to the player to interpret. I'm thinking about how you see Phoenix clearly while in a courtroom because of the more cinematic approach to that section of the game, but when talking to other characters you don't see his face; instead the characters are talking directly to you because it's more personal. That (and a stupid amount of over analyzing the portraits of FE13-16 because FETH criticism is fucking weird) contributed to the npcs in this game looking directly at you. Also because horror game, things are supposed to be a bit unnerving. If Grant had a sprite she wouldn't look at the player because you are playing as he;, she should reflect the fact that you are looking at the npcs.
While this is the first game I've taken really seriously as a personal project, it's development cycle still throws me off because of what I've done beforehand for school.
It's weird, normally when making a game I'd focus on gameplay first and story last. I've done a handful of small scale projects at school, and the number one thing teachers drill into your head is to have the gameplay and the narrative play off each other. Most students go in with this epic idea for a story and only really want to make it a game because games are cool, not that they think they can have the gameplay enhance the plot. This combined with a lot of demos we made were based on popular genres (FPS for example) meant our development cycle looked a lot like gameplay first then story built to compliment that. My other game ideas either looked like that or smth more equally balanced, I think of a story element and a gameplay element I thought of happens to compliment that, but I've never had to come up with the majority of the plot first then the gameplay afterwards. Part of it was trying to discourage students from doing that, because they tend to have far too ambitious plotlines in mind. The other part was like fucking hell they are teaching us that weird niche visual novel shit because we are being trained to work for some company's Toronto division pumping out sequels.
But ultimately I've just never had an idea like this one before. Half my game ideas are fighting games and the rest are platformers, puzzle games, etc. I have thought of two -ish TRPG's, and briefly came up with a couple of other visual novel ideas, but they never stuck with me as long as the likes of Red Spikey Hair Guy Needs To Let Out Some Anger The Platformer (WIP name). If that title is any indication, the plot isn't my main concern for that game yet. That's because I want to figure out the gameplay more before I further flesh the story out because I want it to blend together. And then it gets put on hold because I forget how to program. Anyways, with Riverside there is very minimal gameplay. The reason why it is still a game and not just a comic or smth is because I think it is very important that you are put in the shoes of a patient at a nursing home, because you can't really get the same empathy with any other medium. Or hell, you don't get that same experience in real life until it's too late.

Shen wei would kill to have Luo wenzhous set up (take me with a grain of salt though cause I've only got Drama Shen Wei to compare and the knowledge he's a bit Extra possessive in the novel)
Shen wei: he texts you where he goes, how long, and when he'll return?
Luo wenzhou nodding: of course
Shen wei: Zhao yunlan only answers when I call, but he is a bit messy on organizing, and I'd prefer to just not have him go into danger in the first place
Luo wenzhou: fei du stays home if I tell him to
Shen wei: !!!! How did you manage that?!
Luo wenzhou: ...not entirely sure. Actually I. I think maybe fei du just doesn't want to break my heart when he can tell I want him badly to be safe, maybe?
Shen wei: but he's less mature than you, presumably more selfish, and he still...?
Luo wenzhou: well does your lover not?
Shen wei: -.- he doesn't like directions. Very mouthy
Luo Wenzhou: haha I've been there. We love to argue ToT
Shen Wei: so anyway, I don't think we quite mean the same thing... I mean... my lover is a brat in bed
Luo wenzhou: oh, fei du is too. But he's good for me uvu or else he doesn't get any
Shen wei: ...so. how do you get him tied up? How do you prevent him from getting scared off?
Luo wenzhou, smiling and about to blather away happily then blinking: um. You're a...professor right? Or a... a member of the Special Investigation Division right?
Shen wei: I assist them, yes.
Luo wenzhou: then you should know better than most, it's not a good idea to forcefully restrain someone against their will... You're lover is... the Chief right?
Shen wei, nodding primly: that is correct
Luo wenzhou: right... so he probably would look the other way if you broke the law a little... (shen wei coughs) my point is though, you really shouldn't be tying Anyone up in a way that might "scare them off." Like... an illegal way
Shen wei, trying not to twitch about being a "monster" and how that might Scare people off anyway but it's not worth the argument of comparing himself to this human: I'm not... I... you tie your lover up though. How is that different?
Luo wenzhou: ...
Fei Du, coming in from the bedroom where he'd been eavesdropping (cause Luo wenzhou probably thought the conversation was too "inappropriate for fei du." Luo wenzhou blushing in shame when he notices fei du heard him bragging and being a Bit of a Prick when he really means it in a loving way or at least... he was being a dick acting all proud of how possessive he is ToT): Yes, shixiong, how IS what you do different?
Luo Wenzhou, fighting desperately to restrain the urge to snap "if it wasn't different you would've taken me to court already brat" but also knowing the way he just put it with shen wei he does come off as a bit of a hypocrite. It's different cause fei du is HIS person, and his responsibility to take care of and protect and Fei Du is okay with it or Luo Wenzhou really would notice fei du emotionally hurt and back the fuck off. But that's all not easily explained to an Intense Acquaintance with weird energy lol.
Fei Du, crooning in mischief when Luo Wenzhou fails to respond: oh, shen wei, I'll tell you how it's different. When he does it he's teaching me a lesson, just daddy scolding me
Luo wenzhou: *chokes* stands up and knocks a tea off the table on accident trying to figure out what the fuck to say to fix this or distract, ends up shouting "motherfucker! Oh, excuse me" when he sees the broken glass and starts Agressively Cleaning it up
Fei Du, absolutely giddy, smiling at the edges of his eyes: unless of course you're punishing Your lover, and he's into that. Then I'm sure you can also play daddy~
Luo Wenzhou, turning red, starting to say "Fei Du!"
Shen wei, also turning red: I ah... don't think my lover is as okay with being punished in... the same way...
Fei Du: I see uvu (Luo wenzhou physically trying to drag him out of the room now) so he prefers punishment during sex right? I wish shixiong would try that with me instead~
Luo Wenzhou: I think you should rinse the vegetables for prepping for dinner! While I clean up the glass! Now!!! (Shoving full body his scrawny ass lover fei du through the kitchen doorway and out of line of sight with shen wei who's turned full on tomato colored now)
#guardian#silent reading#lb#fei du#shen wei#luo wenzhou#i just think lmao ToT shen wei wojld be SO JEALOUS#that luo wenzhou can manhandle and tie up and gag and smack and punish his lover whenever EVEN over#eating or sickness or missing a phone call
