I wanna start by saying that I do not mean to shame or talk down to anybody when making this kind of post.
Tumblr media
But we gotta talk about writing formats and stuff. Now, I'm not gonna act like I'm some sort of super, in-depth reader who just LOVES to read and knows everything, I don't, in fact, I kinda hate reading but I gotta do it to learn how to write better which is what I enjoy doing. I love writing, that's what I like to do, the reading part is what bores me.
But even tho I dislike reading that doesn't mean I'm gonna ignore the structure and formats cuz I don't like reading and don't wanna learn.
Lately, I noticed there are a lot of fic writers that take some questionable takes when it comes to writing and lemme start by saying that while I believe we all have different writing styles, a style is different from the basic structure.
I'm talking about the recent influx of fics in ao3 that are wall posts, have no dialogue division, or smash two characters talking into the same paragraph.
I know tiktok LOVES to lie to y'all for the sake of clout and attention (I have seen people making very STUPID takes when it comes to writing there) but I promise you that nobody is gonna kill you for having a good writing structure that follows the norm cuz it is the norm for a reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are two examples of my own writing (this is all unbeta/unfixed) on the left side is the regular structure you'll follow when writing a regular novel, and on the right is what I use when writing fanfiction.
Both are GOOD for their given purpose.
Dialogue between characters is separated so you understand it is another character talking and if there is a description between the dialogue it is still the same character talking after.
The paragraphs are separated and it is clear when a new action is happening and another one ends. It makes it easy for readers to follow what is happening.
I cannot believe I have to say this but JUST USE THE WORD SAID. He said, she said, they said, that bitch said. If you just want to clarify who is talking, just use said. If you have a long dialogue between characters and wanna make sure the reader is still following along, then just throw in the word said here and there and add a small action. Contrary to what dumbasses say on the internet, using the word said is there to GUIDE THE READER INTO KNOWING WHO IS TALKING. That's the purpose it has, if it is a dialogue between two characters then it is easier and you don't have to spam it but please, sometimes simplicity goes a long way.
Separate your dialogue between characters
Tell your reader who is talking.
Separate your paragraphs
And for the love of god, please, don't take writing advice from tiktok kids that only consume fanfiction. Instead, read novels and books, yeah it blows if you hate reading and English isn't your first language (like me) but that's how you are gonna get better at it. I'm not saying fanfiction isn't at the same level as novels/books but for the most part, books/novels are constructed and formatted in a way that you can learn something from them and apply it to your writing.
Think of it as a reference, just like artists use references to get better at drawing, your reference is other books that'll teach you and help you do better.

you know what I just noticed.
Monoma has never copied a mutation quirk.
ok, we know from the very start he can copy emitter quirks (sports festival Bakugo) and transformation quirks (sports festival Kirishima)
and we are told what quirks he can't copy, namely stockpile (rather he can copy them but, no stockpile no use).
BUT, we are not told of any other quirk he can't copy. leaving by exclusion the idea that he can copy mutant quirks.
now, I know I sound insane, of course he can't copy mutant quirks, he can't grow extra limbs. BUT he did copy Eri's horn. (granted Eri's quirk is emitter even though it carries a mutation)
no I do NOT think Horikoshi meant to have me notice this. and NO I do not think this is a thought through implication.
but.... could this be a wonderful insight into the nature of mutant quirk discomfort in society? by which I DO NOT mean he would be one of the (this is clearly a metaphor for racism) mob assholes who hurt Shoji. Afterall he is also -not liked- because of his quirk, like Shinzo (and mydoria cause they are all parallels for the other metaphor for racism aka. quirk less ness)
BUT, could it be a wonderful, mind shattering, amazing insight into the you-do-not-have-to-be-avtively-racist-to-have-latent-racism-in-a-racist-society
no, I don't think Horikoshi intended it this way. what can I do about it, I would love it.

Can anyone find me that one vintage-looking art piece of a beetle painting in a field? Not a painting of a beetle but the beetle itself is painting on a canvas and easel. I鈥檝e been looking for days!

Taking advantage of Constantine's tendency to zone out during debriefings, Danny sneaks up on him from behind while invisible and goes eldritch abomination before becoming visible.
Danny: JOHN CONSTANTINE! I'VE COME FOR YOUR PITIFUL SOUL!
Constantine: BLOODY HELL!
*magic blasts Danny, knocking him to the floor and causing him to revert to his normal ghost form*
Constantine: You miserable little brat! I told you to cut that shite out!
*lying on the floor wheezing in both pain and laughter*
Danny: I regret nothing
The rest of the JL and JLD members either snicker in amusement or shake their head in disappointment.

ok ill say one thing rn
completely wild that ivan tells sua off for consistently sacrificing herself for mizi- saying that she's not being noble by doing this and will only become a source of trauma for her by the end (WHICH WAS TRUE BC SHE THREW THE CONTEST TO DIE IN MIZI'S PLACE)
but then the SECOND hes put into that same situation...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE DOES THE SAME THING!!! HE KNOWS HIS SCORE IS WELL ABOVE TILL'S SO HE KISSES HIM TO BRING HIS SCORE DOWN AND CHOKES HIM TO MAKE SURE HES THE ONE KILLED (THE SAME WAY MIZI WAS TARGETED FOR BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF LUKA). IVAN YOU PIECE OF SHIT HYPOCRITE. "SOURCE OF TRAUMA" HUH? YOURS WAS WORSE. I CANT BELIEVE YOUVE DONE THIS.
Anyway more in depth thoughts in the reblogs as I gathered myself

morality in fallout games
fallout 3: hmmm. is it bad to blow up the people you don't like?
fallout new vegas: every action has consequences, even actions you believe to be correct and that seem like the most straightforward way to improve society and free people from poverty and disease. war is hell and there are limits to how many problems can be solved with a revolver. every enemy you kill is someone's brother or daughter or lover, and you can't guarantee you won't meet that someone and have to stand by your decisions at some point. how strong is your conviction to do the "right" thing when you know that people you care about may hate you for it? how sure are you that your definition of "good" is more correct than someone else's? how often is your "good" really just the lesser of two evils? who are you to play god and decide what kinds of people deserve happiness more than others? would it be cowardly and wrong to remain neutral and detached when you hold the power to singlehandedly change everything? w
fallout 4: hmmm. is it bad to blow up the WAIT!!! POST CANCELED i just remembered this game has a mod that lets you replace Curie's humanoid synth form with a hot robot furry and you can date her and that kinda fucking rules actually

Altars in Ancient Greece
A disclaimer before we get into it: this is a brief explanation of how altars functioned in ancient Greece. I am not telling you how you should set up your own personal altar(s). Rather, I hope this can serve as foundational knowledge for you to consider while figuring out what works best for you and your practice.
Tumblr media
Pentelic marble altar from the ancient agora of Athens. Dedicated by the Athenian Boule to Aphrodite and the Graces. c. 194-193 BCE.
The purpose of the altar is to receive offerings for the deity. It is the sacred place where worshipers pour their libations of wine, deposit their gifts of fruit, honey, or cakes, and burn a portion of the sacrificial animal. Offerings in ancient Greece were a key component of religious life; it is how mortals express their honor and build 蠂维蟻喂蟼 (kharis, favor). The altar is a highly important point of contact with the divine, and is an essential physical element for any cult to be established.
In fact, we can determine whether or not a deity was worshiped in ancient Greece based on if there were any altars dedicated to them. A god or daimon with no altars was very likely only part of the mythological or literary tradition and did not receive any sacrifices or worship. Altars were generally dedicated to one god or a group of related deities. In rarer cases, they may be dedicated to the whole pantheon (example: the Altar of the Twelve Gods in the Athenian Agora).
An altar for a heavenly (ouranic) god would be a raised surface or pedestal, and it would be oriented towards the East. The typical Greek altar consisted of bricks which were white-washed with lime, or it was carved from stone such as marble or limestone. They could be plain, or they could be decorated with volutes and narrative scenes. They often had the name of the deity inscribed into them. Altars could also come in a variety of shapes, the only real requirement being that the surface on top was flat so it could hold the offerings.
More prominent cult sanctuaries may feature a large, elevated altar with steps leading up to it. There were also natural rock altars, or in very rustic sanctuaries, a collection of stones was grouped to form an altar. If one was worshiping a khthonic god who dwells on or within the earth, they would provide sacrifices at a low-lying altar such as an eschara, or a simple open pit called a bothros.
Indoor altars were very uncommon. At sanctuaries, the altar would be outside of the gods temple, often in front of the entrance. Though a sanctuary could contain several altars and sacrificial sites. Households would have had one in their courtyard for private worship. Other altars were located outside of public buildings or in community gathering places like an agora.
The reason for being outdoors was so that the gods who reside in the sky could observe the sacrifices being made and enjoy the rising smoke of the incense. Meanwhile, a libation poured directly onto the bare earth would seep down below to the khthonic gods. Every altar was ceremonially sanctified when its first sacrifice was performed; from then on, it was considered part of the property of the deity.
Below are my sources. I'll likely make a part two of this post where I go over some ideas for how we can construct our modern altars. Thank you for reading!
