what do you think about nedpan🇳🇱🇯🇵
I haven't really gotten deep into it, but from what I've seen going around I really like it! I think they are a good pairing with a lot of potential regarding the combination of their personalities, and it's no secret that I have a weakness from anything based on historical events 😅✨

"Amestris is an allegory for nazi Germany" you fool. Amestris is not an allegory for just nazi Germany -- it's an allegory for genocidal, fascist, militaristic governments as a whole. Yes, it has parallels to fascist Europe, but it also has parallels to xenophobic militaristic US and imperialist Japan. The point is not "look at this outlier of a country committing atrocities," the point is that the country committing atrocities might be your country and you might be complicit in it no matter how morally upstanding you might think you are. To act like only one government is capable of committing genocide blinds you to the potential that any other government might commit genocide too.

Amane's birthday flower tweet
Tumblr media
(tweet links here)
Happy Birthday to everyone born today. Today is also Amane Momose from #MILGRAM's birthday. Her birth flower is Passiflora caerulea (tokeisou/Blue Passion Flower). The name "Passion flower" [tl note: passion as in "the passion/suffering of Christ, not enthusiasm] was used by Christian missionaries, it comes from the stamen's resemblence to the Crucifixion of Christ, with the 10 petals representing 10 Apostles. The passion flower's hanakotoba are "Faith", "Sacred Love" as well as "Religious fervour". Just so you know, this is simply an annecdote about the flower, it's not directly related to Amane's origins. Hanatokoba is purely allegorical. Simply put, just because the blue passion flower has this kind of backstory and hanakotoba, it doesn't mean Amane's religion is the same. Just added this supplement in case this is the first time you've had a run in with the Hanakotoba Guy and found it hard to understand. [Note: 花言葉おじさん Hanakotoba ojisan aka Hanakotoba Guy/Old Man Hanakotoba/Mr Hanakotoba is Yamanaka's nickname for himself when he does these things, he also used the term in Mikoto's birthday tweet]

Charm doesn't have age - Lgbtq media
Having a mini rant at how fast paced the entertainment industry is, churning new actors/sses while benching others as soon as they near 25 or 30/35.
It exists in Holywood, but it's across all entertainment - eg :
- having older actors plays role meant for older leads - eg politicians, shop owners, ceo.
- have older/more complex storylines showcasing older actors, let them mature on the vine
- a more naturalist cinematography with less heavy filtering and more highlighting of each actor individual beauty (moles, slight wrinkles, white hair
- less of an idol bootcamp / idols competition into marketing absolutely sanded down comercialisable products.
I'm actually grateful for the few Japanese and taiwanese shows that seems to lean more into it and/or give cameo to their older actors into newer shows.
Some fans didn't understood the older teacher romance in the only one/mou mou but it highlighted the complexity of the queer experience for older people. Similar dynamics with a younger cast in the Japanese Ayaka-chan wa Hiroko-senpai ni Koishiteru.
Being older doesn't automatically mean being more mature, or having less internalised homophobia or being settled in life. It might or it might not.
The queer experience hasn't been universal, and has been going through different cycles leaving across every generation its own trauma and sadness
Asian lgbqt media has been key in helping lgbq rights and has had a inspirational role into showing acceptance of queer love and marriage equality, leading to its legalisation in Thailand or Taiwan for instance.
As a 30+ queer person, i dream of those cinematographers also giving us exposure and views on love and acceptance while growing older (and sexier).

Ok but can I give flowers to the audio editor on hidamari ga kikoeru? For a show that's about one character being hard of hearing and then you have that scene in the movie club room with Taichi and his buddy sorting through the VHS AND IN THE BACKGROUND YOU CAN HEAR THE ORCHESTRA CLUB PRACTICING SOMEWHERE XD I legit had to pause the episode to make sure the weird noises weren't coming from outside my window.
And then he closes the window BUT IT'S STILL THERE BUT QUIETER XDDD

dude I was looking through clips for a reference image and it literally makes me sick with anger that Genndy chose to portray Africa like That. Literally racist caricatures like come onnnn man. The worst part is that I really want to LIKE that episode aside from the art direction. His mentor is a very sweet guy and I like Jack’s little rivalry with the other kid. I dislike that Jack has to save everyone and the other tribe is portrayed even worse, but at least Jack isn’t fighting by his fucking self the whole scene. there was so much potential in this episode if Genndy hadn’t been so fucking racist with his character designs. I do not fucking understand why he chose to make them absolutely pitch black in color. That’s not what humans look like. It’s like how he colors Jack straight up yellow sometimes. I know during the time this came out it was not very likely for bigotry to get called out but that had to have made some people uncomfortable. Jeeeeesus Christ. The guy portrayed China more respectfully than he portrayed literally any other culture including Japan lmao. Actually I take that back he gave quite a few Chinese characters racist accents. The man wanted a ‘multiethnic’ feel to his show but could not fucking stop being white and racist for it
#samurai jack#I HAAAAATE ITTTT#I love the character of the African Chief I just can’t stand his fucking character design. you didn’t deserve that king#I say he didn’t portray Japan well bc he barely even did. it was like some hand wavey Vibe of Japan and nothing concrete#he at least bothered to portray Shaolin monks without just making them aggressively Chinese#Genndy straight up knew more abt China than he did Japan bc there are SO many times#where what Genndy thinks is a Japanese culture thing is more just him considering all East Asians the same#listen I love samurai jack but I think it got away with this a little too easily. I think Genndy should get some flak for that#that whole ‘great ancestors’ prayer is cool and all but Jack wouldn’t be praying to them like in fucking Mulan. that’s not his religion.#in Japanese culture you can and do pray to your ancestors but not like. in the middle of nowhere in battle?#it made for a cool moment to show Jack wasnt abandoned by his culture but it was. not even a little accurate LOL#I GGUESS the argument could be made Jack was just sending a little prayer up but it still felt. off#not even people in China prayed like that to nebulous ancestors in the sky LOL#it’s just kind of an orientalist thing. idk maybe Genndy pulled the idea from somewhere like most of his Jack scenes but#it’s not Japanese in nature LOL#I can see it coming from a Conan scene. a goood chunk of Jack was inspired by Conan#anyway. the most accurate fucking Japanese culture scene was when the Jack robot was praying to what he could scrounge up as a small shrine#and it WASNT EVEN REAL JACK.

HIDE Inspiration Talk 50 (# 19 - 20) - Translation
Demo Tape
When I was still in my indie days myself, I collected demo tapes of Japanese indie bands. From Osaka’s Veil, to Anthem [metal band, founded 1981, disbanded during the 90 but reunited and is still active] to Sabbrabels [metal band, 1980 – 87, reunited in 2015 and again in 2019, still active], and also a lot of punk bands. I loved indie-tapes. There was an event called Music Seminar in New York where several bands were playing music at a livehouse for 24 hours, and having only just debuted, we went there as well. At that time, there was a really cool band, and I wanted their tape at all cost, so I went to their dressing room and managed to get it. Now, come to think of it, that band had been Biohazard [Punk/Metal band from New York, 1987 – 2005], when they were still completely unknown. I remember how there was no one else coming for them. But, I never made any demo tapes myself. Saver Tiger didn’t make any, nor did X after I joined. I collected tapes like that, but I didn’t create any.
Christmas
Christmas is a merry time when people want to be merry all over the world. My ideal Christmas comes with a meticulously planned date. If you’re going to celebrate anyway, you better go over the top (laughs). In the past, there was a short period when Yoshiki was not seen in public after a collapse. Just before Christmas, he finally went out in public again, just in time for the Christmas party at a certain billiard hall. I remember Yoshiki enjoying himself excessively at that time. Actually, I had been organizing that party. Afterwards, I thought that I never wanted to organize a party again. Being the host, I had invited a lot of people, but when it was to start, no one showed up. I was so surprised. I remember well how flustered I was, thinking, “Huh, what do I do if no one comes?” Last year, we were rehearsing at the studio and had an abundance of chicken from Moss Burger. Heath’s words while looking at it were, “Christmas is really a desolate time. People are snuggling up to each other because it is so lonely.” Those words were very deep (laughs).
