A short Zutara scene inspired by Captain Holt’s speech from the Brooklyn 99 episode, “Boyle-Linetti Wedding.”
******
A decade after the end of the 100 Year War, Iroh beams at the massive crowd waiting in the courtyard of the Fire Nation palace. It’s been a long time since he’s been back to his homeland, but he wouldn’t miss this day for anything in the world.
He glances to his right to find his nephew in a formal set of robes that contain splashes of rich maroon and deep navy, his flame-shaped crown glinting in the afternoon sunlight. If Iroh is being honest, he’s never seen Zuko look as happy as he does in this moment. To Iroh’s left is the lovely Master Waterbender who captured his nephew’s heart and has kept it safe all these years. She’s dressed in a beautiful, flowing gown of vibrant crimson and ocean blue, her own crescent moon-shaped crown sparkling for all to see. If her radiant smile is anything to go by, she’s just as happy as the man standing across from her. Their hands are clasped tightly together, and their eyes have not left one another’s.
Iroh turns his attention to the crowd, which is full of members across the nations.
In a voice that’s both loud and gentle, he announces, “We are gathered here on this momentous day to celebrate a sacred union between my nephew, Fire Lord Zuko, and Master Katara of the Southern Water Tribe. I have been asked by both of these truly astounding individuals to officiate this ceremony, and it is my greatest honor to do so. I must begin by saying that marriage is many things. It is love. It is commitment. It is joy. It is understanding. It is patience. It is anger. It is reconciliation. It is everything. It is like tea.” He pauses to grin widely, gesturing with his hands. “It…sustains you.”
Finally removing his gaze from his soon-to-be Fire Lady, Zuko rolls his eyes fondly at Iroh, chuckling softly. “Uncle, you couldn’t leave the tea out of this, could you?”
Iroh shakes his head, giving a gentle pat to Zuko’s shoulder. “Just wait until you hear my speech during the reception. It’s all about tea.”
Katara giggles, her eyes shining with warmth and love. “Sounds perfect. We can’t wait.”

The way Leonard sometimes (often) does things out of spite made me wonder what he's willing to do to prove to everyone around him how much he doesn't give a shit.
Imagine, during an argument with Mick, Leonard just sits in his chair and looks at him with a "you make a lot of noise, buddy" face. Angry Mick pulls out a gun and points it in Snart's face, but he remains unfazed. Barry doesn't have time to do anything when Leonard's parka bursts into flames.
Mick: Admit you were wrong! Or you'll burn like a pig!
Leonard: ... no.
Barry: You're literally on fire, Len, please!
Leonard: Whatever.

Eddie and Steve had just taken a moment. A minute. Barely anything. A kiss. One, two, passed quickly, especially after having only confessed to each other the night before.
The party was out by Steve's pool and a whole kitchen was between them and the two boys kissing desperately against the wall in the family room.
But then there was the stampede of younger feet pounding through the house. So very quick and fast that Eddie still held Steve. Steve, who was leaning against the wall with his hands gripping Eddie's shoulders for how unexpectedly weak his knees had felt since Eddie shoved him against the wall.
So when they quickly swung their heads to the left, arms around each other and eyes wide, Steve knew they were busted.
"What." Lucas asked, so surprised that he'd lost the up-tilt of inflection at the end of the question.
Max's eyes are narrowed as she flatly asserts, "they're boyfriends."
Steve felt frozen. He couldn't move his hands. It was lucky that his lips weren't still nuzzled against Eddie's neck when they'd all appeared.
And Eddie. Well, he just flat out refuses to move. His hands are practically at 10 and 2 and he isn't giving up any future opportunities to show Steve how devoted he is.
Dustin swirls to face Max, hands cocked on his hips just like Steve at his highest ire. "I know! But that's because I'm basically their brother. How'd *you* know?"
Max snorts and crosses her arms against her friend's indignation, "what? Like it's hard?"
Lucas's face screws up in consternation and he nudges Max gently in the ribs. She cuts those sharp eyes to her boyfriend, amused and inviting him in to enjoy the joke.
Lucas can't help but grin at her precocious cockiness. "Okay, but the rest of us may have some questions."
Mike exhales loudly, "Oh, there are plenty of questions. Like, how the hell has Steve bagged Eddie." His face is pink and screwed up in what Eddie would think is anger, but doesn't quite ring true.
Dustin scoffs, "Even when they weren't together Eddie had a lot of opinions about what he liked about 'Harrington.'
Steve rolls his eyes, "almost like I'm a damn catch."
Mike rolls his eyes back, but Dustin flings his arm out, nearly smacking Eddie's chest, "there's tons of reasons Steve would be a good boyfriend."
Eddie smirks down at the little sqirts, "that's right. I'm about to monologue, son."

Buck: After we disarmed that bomb, you flirted with me for 20 seconds and I became obsessed with you forever. Eddie: That wasn't flirting. All I said was, "You can have my back any day." Buck: How was that NOT flirting? And how I was NOT supposed to become obsessed with you forever? Eddie: Fair enough.

5 (More) Incredible Instances of Copaganda in Media
You can find copaganda in all kinds of media. Here, let me show you, with 5 (more) instances of copaganda in media.
We’ve done this once before, counting out some examples of copaganda in media. Now we’re back, and bringing you five more instances of copaganda in media. Before we begin, a quick reminder of what copaganda actually is. Copaganda, as I wrote it in the first installment of this series, is “propaganda that normalizes, valorizes, or otherwise paints policing in a positive light. More than that, it…

just got a like on my brooklyn 99 jessay-post from a while back which reminded me i've been thinking about the show a lot more bc my brother is currently watching it for the first time so sometimes i'll be in the room while he's watching an episode. and it's such a bizarre experience bc my brother is VERY anti-cop and that made him not want to watch the show at all until a friend convinced him to, and now he really enjoys it in this compartmentalized-way of being like "i know a lot of aspects of this are copaganda but also the character writing and comedy are objectively well done"
and as i'm rewatching bits and pieces it's bizarre bc i also had no desire to rewatch the show after it ended mostly bc of that copaganda aspect and how it fumbled its social commentary in the final season, but damn it i feel myself getting nostalgic and liking the characters. but mostly i feel myself realizing basically all the best parts of brooklyn 99, even if you try to ignore the baggage, have nothing to do with them being cops. it's just a fun group of diverse friends making jokes together! except it isn't, the cop thing will always be the elephant in the room.
i'm not going to reiterate all the points i made in that original essay bc i just reread it and even after properly revisiting brooklyn 99 i think the points i made hold up, but the main thing i think about now is actually an anecdote i heard about when they first decided to adapt "the office" for an american audience. and once of the biggest notes its american showrunners got was you can make michael scott as immature and obnoxious and ridiculous as you want, but you HAVE to make him still good at his job. american audiences won't tolerate that kind of character unless they still get results.
and then you have brooklyn 99. filled with these ridiculous characters having their own zany-and-distracting adventures week after week, but don't worry, they're "good at their job." but when their job is fundamentally an archaic institution responsible for ruining many people's lives and perpetuating the racist prison industrial complex, how "reassuring" is that quality really?
#time for a jessay#tbh i think i might actually make a video essay called ''brooklyn 99 and the limits of sitcom escapism'' eventually#bc this unintentional-rewatch with my very leftist brother has inspired some interesting analysis#(when i say very leftist i mean he's even more of a leftist than i am bc he's more overtly interested in politics and social movements)#but yeah i'm also unintentionally rewatching brooklyn 99 at the same time as i'm intentionally rewatching scrubs#which is interesting bc scrubs could theoretically run into some of these same problems but instead it's one of my favorite shows ever#bc like here you have goofy doctors caught up in their own zany adventures while life-or-death situations are happening#so i could theoretically see someone hating the show because of that#and in that instance i think the michael-scott-adaptation quote is the core to why we still like the characters#bc even when they fuck up. most of the time they are incredible doctors despite their immaturity and ridiculousness#but the difference is even tho both police and doctors often deal with people on the worst day of their life#doctors usually aren't the ones who *make* this the worst day of your life#once i do my brooklyn 99 video essay i want to rewatch a bunch of sitcoms in that genre#to see if this ''michael scott adaptation'' is present and enhances the escapism#i'm probably not gonna get to this video essay until after my buddy cole doc is done#but i do think it'd be fun to release it in a similar time frame to my retrospective on the sitcom i tried to write in middle school#bc ik brooklyn 99 was a huge influence on that writing style and it'd be interesting dissecting sitcom conventions from those two angles

Hi there 😊
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, but I just had an idea for a particular scene today, so I decided to write about it. I’m taking a break from anything Red, White & Royal Blue related to focus on my current love and hyperfixation: Avatar the Last Airbender. I started watching the series last fall, and I haven’t been able to turn my mind off from it since then. Unsurprisingly, I quickly became obsessed with and fascinated by Zuko and Katara’s dynamic. They’ve become my muse lately. I’m working on a Zutara fanfic as we speak, and I’ll create a post about it once I get it up on AO3.
In the meantime, I wrote this very short scene. It takes place several months after the end of the 100 Year War. Zuko has made great progress as the Fire Lord, and Katara is now an Ambassador for the Southern Water Tribe. They’re in a committed and loving relationship at this point. I used some direct quotes from the Brooklyn 99 episode, “Chasing Amy.” This was initially meant to be a quick, humorous thing, but it turned into something sweeter (I have no regrets, heh). Full disclaimer: If you know anything about the reference to the B-99 scene, you’ll understand that Jake and Amy did have a significant moment of affection on that rooftop, whether it was technically love or not. As for Zuko and Katara, I personally don’t believe they were anywhere close to feeling love or deep affection in the Crystal Catacombs, but I think it’s the first time they truly connected on an emotional level.
Anyway, without further ado…
*****
After a long day of beginning preliminary discussions with the Earth King about the newest trade agreements among the Earth Kingdom, Southern Water Tribe, and the Fire Nation, Ambassador Katara snuck off for some alone time in Ba Sing Se. She managed to convince the Earth King to let her down into the Crystal Catacombs, even though most individuals in the city have been strictly prohibited from ever entering the area again. It’s still in the process of getting repurposed for better, more humane uses. She gave him some flimsy excuse as to why she wants to venture into the cavern. Despite the deep frown he gave her, he apparently didn’t question her motives, and had a couple of guards (thankfully, not the Dai Li) follow her to ensure that she made it there safely. She didn’t need the protection, of course, but she didn’t feel like arguing. She had told the Earth King not to let anyone else know where she was; she promised him that she’d be back to her guest house later.
Now, she finds herself back in the same spot that she was imprisoned with a then-banished Fire Prince.
Just as she runs a hand over one of the crystals, she hears soft footsteps behind her and turns around to find the love of her life.
The Fire Lord is dressed in his formal regalia, but he’s taken his crown off, and his top knot is undone, leaving his shaggy fringe hanging over his bright, golden eyes.
“There you are! Thank Agni,” he sighs in relief, drawing nearer.
A look of surprise flits across her face. “Hey, how did you find me?”
He raises his eyebrow at her. “Well, the Earth King didn’t want to tell me at first, but I figured it out. If I recall correctly, a long time ago, Master Katara and the banished Crown Prince Zuko were trapped under Ba Sing Se, in the Crystal Catacombs.” He gestures to their surroundings, and his lips quirk into a tiny smile. “This is where we were the night you fell in love with me.”
Katara snorts, shaking her head. She crosses her arms and gives him a half-hearted glare. “Zuko,” she warns, with just a bit of an edge to her voice.
“All right, fine. The night that you flirted with me for 20 seconds and I became obsessed with you forever,” he amends sheepishly, his cheeks flushing.
“That’s slightly more accurate.” She steps closer to him, so that there is barely any space between them. She reaches up toward his face, tracing her fingers over his scarred cheek.
“Are you okay?” he murmurs, automatically leaning into her touch.
“Yeah,” she answers softly. “I guess I just wanted to come back to see what it was like, now that things are so different.”
He swallows nervously, though he keeps his eye contact steady. “I understand. I kind of did, too, honestly. I hope…” he pauses, looking like he was choosing his words carefully. She waits patiently for him, and in the next moment, he continues, “I hope we can associate better memories with this place. They’ll never be perfect, of course, because of all the bad things that happened here before. But, maybe when we think of it from now on, it won’t be quite so grim.”
She nods before pulling him into her arms. He hugs her back with everything he has in him, pouring all of his affection and love, and apologies and regret into the gesture.
He lets her go briefly to press a kiss to her forehead. “Do you want to head back up?” he asks quietly, cradling her to his chest with his chin resting on top of her head. “We can probably explore more parts of the city before our next meeting, if you want to.”
She glances up at him and smiles. “Not yet. Let’s just stay a little while longer.”
He agrees and holds her, while the green crystals glow around them.
Yes, she thinks to herself, we’ll have better memories from now on.

🇨🇵 Inspiré de mon professeur et ami @remi_wushu qui m'a réellement apprit à parer ce genre de charge.
NB: la 1ere fois que c'est arrivé mon cerveau a promptement oublié ce que j'étais censé faire 😅😂
🇬🇧 Inspired by my teacher and friend @remi_wushu who taught me how to block that kind of charge.
