i want james potter who just when he starts dating regulus/lily, is so surprised when the actually want to hang out with him, have dates with him which dont just lead to having sex.

the first time the decide to have a sleepover, things begin to escalate, and after james declines, he makes out to leave, hes told that its fine if they dont have sex, not everything has to end with sex.

and james is just like 🧍‍♂️ when hes told that his worth is not defined by his body. hes so confused because his previous partners always complimented his toned body as they traced their fingers all over them, but when now hes praised for his mind, eyes, heart and soul, he finds that once empty feeling replaced by an ooey gooey one, and he realised oh. this is what love is supposed to feel like.

pretty much every line of discourse about Lily has been said by Lily to herself--she thinks she's a bad friend for not saving Snape from himself she thinks she's a social climber for marrying a rich boy and worries about leaving her roots behind she thinks she's irresponsible for having a baby so young she thinks she's a bad sister and a class traitor and a traitor to her friend and she thinks all this and then reminds herself of all the good she's done and she lives with the weight of her own insecurity without letting it crush her.

Maybe a bit late to the Christmas party, but here’s my Christmas Wolfstar and Jily story, written for the amazing @loonyloopylupin96.

It doesn’t matter - a succession of 25 stories of how much things do matter, despite Remus’ insistence of otherwise.

19 December: 'What have you done?' Remus asks as he finds James and Sirius in the common room that morning. 'The common room wasn't festive enough,' James shrugs as everlasting snowflakes burst out of his wand. 'And the tree?' Remus is pretty sure the tree had been in the Great Hall yesterday.

lily: very prideful and quick to anger but she's so soft and sweet and sensitive and loves her friends and shows it and she's very touchy feely and she's veryy opinionated and she's a little selfish but like she also cares so so much. + smart enough to be praised by teachers but she'll work herself sick for it &head strong.

mary: extroverted, egoistic, self sacrificing. she'll change everything about herself for you but she'll die before admitting it. loves too hard and destroys herself in it. she's never gotten over anything ever. seeks validation wherever she goes and takes and takes and takes but when she gives she'll hold out her heart for you.

marlene: very calm, very demure. she doesn't want to be in the spotlight but she'll also get mad when she isn't. very petty, holds grudges, homewrecker but she's brave and she's protective and she's ambitious, once she starts something she'll never give up and once she loves someone she'll never get over them.

dorcas: insecure, pushes everyone away, obsessed with the idea of being independent, very deeply lonely and when she loves you it's choking how much there is. she's witty and she's sentimental she's responsible she tries too hard she'll love you forever.

pandora: genuinely crazy, but she's trying, she's always trying. she wanders around in sheets and rabid when provoked, but she'll cut off her own leg to please the person she wants. she's clingy and she's dependent on her Current Person Of Interest she's blunt she's honest she's a little bit cruel, she's way too logical and also depends on vibes or emotion too much. she's prideful but she'll strip of her dignity if she's pushed.

severus: very insecure, very angry. he'll lash out at you twice a day and spend each night begging on his hands and knees for forgiveness, feel humiliated and do it all again. very aware and generally emotionally intelligent but he's blind to it when he starts loving someone too hard, his pride is everything to him and he's jealous of everyone, ever, but he's constantly apologetic about everything he's done.

regulus: soo egoistical. he needs everyone to think and know he's the best but he doesn't even know if that's true. peak superiority complex & inferiority complex. gets off on people needing him so he puts pieces of himself everywhere (it may or may not work). he's smart just never the smartest, good but never the best. he trails around his brother like a lost kid then spits venom when he's called exactly that. he's pathetic because he's more bark than he is bite and he doesn't even realize it.

barty jr.: crybaby. always crying for every and any reason ever. if he likes you he will have you whether you want him to or not - he can be charming (<- to some people) but he's quiet and he'll sit at your feet after breaking his own bones till you take pity on him. no pride or dignity but he'll get violent when he's hurt. he'll let you take his ribs out if you tell him he's good twice through it.

evan: freak. he's a loser and unknown and he's insecure but he's possessive and when he wants something he wants it he'll leash you to his bed if it gets to it and he'll cry about it ("why can't i be needed enough for them to stay forever?"). not very intelligent and sensitive about it, angry and he'll show it, stalker core.

james potter was not always the man that people would want to tell fond stories of. there were years where he was a boy. He was not yet an auror, a hero, a legend, just a boy. He was spoiled and would look down on others who he did not understand. He was cruel in the name of humor, and his pranks could be considered bullying and hateful. He was obnoxious and half of his classmates bordered on punching him in the face if he didn't shut up soon. He didn't understand why Lily did not fancy him, let me be clear he did not harass her, but he would try to make himself seem cooler and end up more of an ass. He would try and gain her affection in the wrong ways. He was loud and mean and stupid and a dumb boy.

but he grew. he may not have lived a long enough life to be a true adult but he grew. He realized that what he was doing was not funny but mean and he would apologize. He would be more respectful in class and understand he and his friends were not the only people who matter in the room. James would listen and learn from those who were not the same as him. the stories of the asshole from school grew into of james who would tell stories to the first years. to james whose pranks were funny and no longer cruel, well a little cruel when the war found itself in hogwarts halls and potter was fighting the only way any of them knew how. to james was passionate and wanted others to succeed. to james the go to if you needed help with transfiguration. to james no longer the bully but the one who would stand up for others. To james who would make mistakes and would apologise, or he wouldn't because he was human. He was not perfect but he was funny and kind and he would be missed.

And over here we see parallel insecurities over their class differences!! Both of these losers are assuming their best friend doesn't actually care about them that much because of their significantly different backgrounds. Dumbasses.

(I also think it's Alek's first time internalizing it like this-- normally it's that he's sad he can't go on adventures with Dylan because he's a Prince and can't afford to do that kind of thing. But now that they have gone on adventures together, and there's still something wrong, Alek's sure that he's the problem.)

i used to not like the idea of james and lily feeling not good enough for each other but i think that might just be me projecting. this is very taurean of me but if something makes me feel good and isn't like, an act of violence, there's no reason not to do it. so it just made me like ? if you like yourself even just 50% why would you ever feel that way?

& i dislike when lily is written to be like "oh your house is so nice I don't fit in" :( I think she'd be used to that sort of thing after going to an elite boarding school. i think she'd be able to recognize her discomfort as unrelated to her inadequacies.

i think her main concern would be james being too naive to understand the consequences of their relationship for him, his social standing, and his physical safety.

when they're younger, like 16/17, which is also her lowest point imo, she'd realize her mistakes and grow while also seeing james with less bias and seeing him grow as well, so then she'd be like god i fucked up. he is actually great and i'm actually a huge coward and that's why he doesn't like me anymore.

but she gets past that! and they're in love xoxo
